Back to one-on-one with DP.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Foundation on 93-7 The Ticket.
The 26th, Enalbark.
The numbers are astounded.
The number of books that have new homes,
the number of young people that now have books that take with them,
I would imagine that there certainly will be more stories told today in Lincoln
Pepper than in most cases.
that there will be families sitting on couches in the living rooms reading to one another because of what happened today.
The power of literacy, the power of a wonderful group of leadership, the folks of the board of linked the literacy, putting together this event.
And then watching the event grow, of course, I mean, this is year four.
And again, where it was versus what it's become currently, is pretty impressive.
and I would not miss the opportunity to say congratulations to the city of Lincoln and who it is.
I think this is a greater example of who Lincoln, Nebraska is, than anything that we can see going on, that it's just families.
Good groups, nonprofits, volunteers, and people who show up to put books in the hands of young people.
and then just to get them to realize the power of reading their own stories,
the imagination, the curiosity that comes from it.
Pretty amazing to watch this thing take place.
And yeah, the lines are there.
They say that book swap will be available until 1.45.
So folks that show up can still come in and drop off books and take books home as well.
as happens in great space is the idea start to happen.
And I do want to challenge the two young ladies that are,
they came.
I want to thank them,
first of all,
giving their time on a Saturday,
and then thank them in public for them sharing themselves
with Husker Nation and sports fans all over the place on a weekly basis
because it's not easy to do.
They have a crazy schedule,
lots of responsibility,
and they still make time to come on the ticket and have discussions.
but I think we're missing a layup in having a read feature.
And I think after hearing them read to the crowd here,
that if we had them go to the studio and just read a chapter from their favorite book,
and we'll record it and put it on social media,
just sharing the importance of literacy,
the power of it,
what it does for the imagination,
what it does for the curiosity,
and as college athletes
and scholar athletes,
the importance of it.
And the sooner we get this into homes
and get it into the space.
So I'm going to ask them next week
if they're willing to be pioneers
and sit at studio and just read.
Just read.
Their favorite book, whatever it is.
We'll have time to put those things together.
and then we'll put it out for everybody there.
I'm also going to challenge them.
They're sitting here.
I'm going to challenge them to sit here in the next 30 minutes and talk to each other.
I think that would be a fantastic crossover.
I think it would be a spectacular crossover to have Kayla Star from bowling and Ray
Lee Coe from tennis to.
They get used to talking, but I think them cross over.
crossing over and talking to one another would be pretty exceptional.
I think it'll be pretty exceptional.
So we'll challenge with that.
But that'll be it for me.
I'm going to do the tour because I haven't seen everything that needs to be seen today.
And I want to appreciate it in full.
But Ray Lecoe, Husker Women's Tennis, Kayla Star, Nebraska polling.
They're here, Rudy.
Grace, the 4th is here.
Young Wyman back at the studio can handle this and get this done.
I will get out of the way and go and appreciate this fine thing, this wonderful day that is.
Lincoln, Nebraska, you're gorgeous, gorgeous, I say.
The ladies are up next.
They'll hold it down and take you through.
On 937, the ticket, and the ticket, fm.com.
