Starting point is 00:01:56 Like you said, it was such a fun night last night. It's one of those days, you know, obviously with Nebraska baseball hosting a regional first time since 2008 where sometimes I just wonder like how do some people not like sports? Like this is the payoff. This is the fun. This is the excitement. And yeah,
Starting point is 00:02:12 I mean, I get it. There's other hobbies out there. some other hobbies myself, but man, this is, I keep saying it because Husker sports are doing so well, but it just, it feels like a special weekend coming up. Yeah, it's remarkable times. We talked to Troy Danon yesterday, both on air and off, and the exceptional state of the union, state of affair, state of the union, and the pride, the pride that you get to field and watching your sons and daughters of Nebraska just excel on the highest level possible for them. Look, this is what Nebraska has made. And you take pride in what you make.
Starting point is 00:02:59 You take pride in what you grow. You take pride in what seed in what you plant and then to watch them blossom and excel in the brightest of lights, in the most difficult situations, to see them find a way, right? Just find a way. And it's part of the makeup of Husker athletics and the personality profile of Husker athletics. And what the fan base kind of reaction response to
Starting point is 00:03:25 is that these folks just find a way. 27 straight wins for Nebraska. Softball, an incredible year. Jordy Fromm showing showing why she is the most important player in college softball. She's the most valuable player in college softball. Yeah, I said it. I said it. She's the face of college softball.
Starting point is 00:03:57 She's the name that triggers all discussions in college softball. You want to be measuring college softball? Talk about Jordy Front. Talk about Jordy from. You cannot highlight yourself or the game. or other players in it without considering Jordy Farm. You cannot talk about the state of affairs for college softball without talking about Nebraska.
Starting point is 00:04:18 You have to have Nebraska in the discussion. Can't talk about your fan base without talking about Nebraska. Can't talk about attendance without talking about Nebraska. Can't talk about money without talking about Nebraska. Impact on the games. As a matter of fact, when it comes to college baseball, it's the Mecca, the motherland. It's the North Star.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Where do you want to end your season, Bach, if you're in college baseball? Road to Omaha. Man, oh, man. Right? And it didn't happen just because. It's because Nebraska has proven that it can drive an entire sport and the conversation around it. So stand up for yourself. Right.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Allow, allow, get your flowers, Nebraska fans. Get your flowers, Nebraska athletics. Listen, not everybody gets. an invite to this space in conversations now. There's only eight softball programs that are in the softball conversation right now. Of all the programs in the country, of all the players in the country, all the coaches in the country, all the fan bases in the country, only eight right now are in the discussion. And as you start to have those conversations, Nebraska's a part of it. They're a part of the conversations.
Starting point is 00:05:37 As a matter of fact, they're setting the standard for the conversation. It's fascinating. There was a stat that was passed about. And I'll give it to you that there were only, let's see here, there are 14 programs that have four sports who make it in football, men's basketball, softball, and baseball. there's only four four programs in the country
Starting point is 00:06:14 who have made it to the national stage in all of those sports. Now, we haven't even included volleyball or wrestling. Right? We just said football, men's basketball, women's basketball,
Starting point is 00:06:33 softball, baseball. There's four schools for four sports. Just those four sports. Now, if you want to talk all six sports or seven sports? I think it's two schools. Bach?
Starting point is 00:06:51 No, no it's not. No, it's not because, wow. Bach, if you had the discussion, football, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, baseball, baseball, wrestling, volleyball. There is one program in the Indian, entire country that made the national tournament or national level play. And it's Nebraska.
Starting point is 00:07:20 It's Nebraska. If you remove volleyball and wrestling, it's Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Nebraska. That's it. That's the list. There are six programs that have a, that are card carry and members. to the national club in those five sports. That's it, and Nebraska's in it. Now, when you add, when you add that,
Starting point is 00:08:00 because you got to the postseason, right? You get to the pro season, which is kind of the thing, right? When you add the other two sports. Hey, man, Nebraska's the only one, like you go to, you go, okay, everybody whose programs got to the national level, right, you got postseason play outside of your tournament and you go to the national level. All of you that have been in all seven sports,
Starting point is 00:08:27 you can go up to the penthouse and you can eat all the food and drink all the drink. Hey, Bach, there's only one card that gets into that room. And it has Nebraska's name on. So celebrate. And we're not talking track and field. Track and field is going to finish in the top ten in track. We didn't talk bowling, right?
Starting point is 00:08:50 We're not, like, are we, you just have to sometimes say, well done. Well done. So in that space, right, on a night where, quite frankly, you've got a program, you got an athletic program that is hosting a regional and baseball and playing in the college world series. Woo-wee. Woo-wee. Woo-wee, man.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Man. Yeah, Corbett, you're right. So that Arkansas fans were annoyed by how much they talked about Jordanie last night. Loved it. Well, but here's the other side of it. If you go back and listen to the broadcast, I would say the majority of the conversation was on the play of Arkansas. The first six innings was this was an Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Arkansas home broadcast talking about how my, how, how gritty they were and how tough they were. Look at them. They've got, they've got this Nebraska program on the ropes. And then, oh, oh, oh, oh, Huskers tired. Oh, oh, my. Oh, let's reconsider. It's always funny that how your, how your ears hear a thing being talked about. I'm sure. But, but. But, Locke, it was funny. I'm here watching. We had a group, and we'll talk about give the link a day here in a second. But we were finishing, and we had folks here in the station. And, yeah, it was on S-E-S-E-C-S-B-N.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Yeah. I, listen, you talk about what you know and what you're familiar with. And quite frankly, if anybody deserves the right to be bothered or bugged, Um, it's the rest of the Husker lineup, right? Because there's dogs in the lineup. Hey, McCusack, listen, Jesse Farrell, top to bottom. I mean, literally, playmakers all over the lineup. Gritty at bats, uh, taking, when you're taking pictures for your teammates so that you can share data,
Starting point is 00:11:14 right? They all did their job to have a team, a lineup from top to bottom that simply fought to do its job. until the job was done. Whether it was defensive playmaking, whether it was sacrificing you're at bat, it was just fun to watch. And it was fun to watch Coach Ravel, right? In this tons of storyline with Rhonda Ravel.
Starting point is 00:11:39 It was interesting. It was interesting. Yeah, mailman, you're absolutely right. The whole Delta Dawn singing along and Tanya Tucker joining a Zoom with the Husker softball team while they had dinner the night before
Starting point is 00:11:58 certainly adds awesome sauce to this journey that is, right? That the song that you sing after every game, the artist finds her way into your, your night before dinner and there's a sing-along with Tanya Tucker, Tucker or the Husker softball team. Listen, feel good about yourself.
Starting point is 00:12:19 I don't, recall any other softball team getting a video like that right i i they could i i'm just not familiar with i'm not familiar with it so lots to talk about there um pretty amazing uh texter says this say hey dpa i know i'm changing the national harbor or can you recommend any of the beaten path things to do in the dmb besides the obv just curious on there for four days so here's what i would say as a sports fan currently if you're in the DMV. Northern Virginia is in it. It's 6A baseball playoffs. It's regional playoffs.
Starting point is 00:13:02 And yes, find your way. Every high school that's playing is within 30 minutes of where you're staying. And there's some really good baseball going on right now. Go to So, yeah, the National Harbor, I mean, go down to the, they call it the Wharf. Go down to the Wharf. Great restaurants, great people. If you're going into Arlington, going to, you go, I just referred to somebody else.
Starting point is 00:13:34 There are a lot of Husker fans in D.C. They asked where to find the best sausage and hash smoke in D.C. They went to Ben's Chili Bowl. And they sent them to my hometown. I sent them to Sherlington. There's a restaurant that makes the best hash smoke. I've ever had. And it's called a weenie bean.
Starting point is 00:13:50 And it's in Sherlington, which is 10 minutes from the National Harbor, go to the weenie be. If you go for breakfast, they make the best breakfast sandwich. But scrambled eggs fresh off the grill. There you go. Right?
Starting point is 00:14:09 Sausage, bacon, off the grill, freshly toast. Now, what was the, what was it still? The Hashmo? Is that what you said? Oh, bro. You're going to have to break that one down.
Starting point is 00:14:19 me for a second. Hasbrook? You know, you're not. I don't know that one, yeah. You don't know has smokes? Uh-uh. You've never had a hash smoke. Uh-uh.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Oh, good heavens, man. We're going to fix that. We're going to fix that. So in the family of sausage, hot dog, rot worst, the half smoke is the burly, bulky big brother.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Okay. Sounds good. Half smoke is the, is the brawny, bulky, Big brother of the Bratworths and sausage. And you can dress it whatever you want. A lot of people boil it, grill it, smoke it, cut it in half.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Some people will fill the condiments within the middle of the half smoke. Some will dress it on top or below. Pretty much whatever you would have on your hot dog. Just imagine a more robust, zesty or big brother of the hot dog. is the hapsmox. I'm sure there's some fantastic haps smokes here in Lincoln. Text line, let me know. As a matter of fact, you know who would know?
Starting point is 00:15:30 This guy would know. Farley would know. Farley would know. Farley, you're a Georgia boy. And Bach, I was talking about a thing. We had a text that's in D.C. and they said they were looking for, they went to Ben's Chili Bowl,
Starting point is 00:15:48 which is an iconic restaurant in D.C. And he went and had a half smoke, which is kind of the deal. But he asked about where to find the best half smoke in D.C. Farley, are you familiar? Bach said he wasn't familiar with the term half smoke. Half smoke, no say. You are not, as a Georgia man,
Starting point is 00:16:11 you aren't familiar with half smoke. Not. You got to give me something probably a better definition. I've given, the description that I've given is that half smoke is the burlier, bulkier, brawnier version of a sausage Broughtworth hot dog. Okay. A half smoke is the big brother of the sausage group.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Okay. The half smoke is the one that, that in a bite of a half smoke, you have a conversation with yourself because it combines the best, of sausage, hot dog, drop worse, and one thing,
Starting point is 00:16:52 this big, bulky, half smoke. Sorry, sir, haven't heard about it. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Yeah, you're, you're, you're right, but you're, okay. Yeah, you're,
Starting point is 00:17:14 you're right. It's a goodthier. It's a good thing. I'm not, out here. I'm not out here, I'm not out here playing with people. I'm not out here playing with y'all. I'm telling you, and there's two
Starting point is 00:17:25 different Husker fans who have texted the tux are boxed. Am I line? Yeah, yeah. On the text line who are in D.C. And they want a half smoke because they know, hey, listen, man, I need a half smoke. And I'm just telling you, I have had some of the most
Starting point is 00:17:41 iconic, ridiculous half smokes in the world, but the best one is literally my condo in Arlington, when I look off my patio, I see the place that makes the best hashbow. It is called the weenie beanie. And the weenie beanie is iconic. You can Google it.
Starting point is 00:17:59 It's been around, I want to say 60 or 70 years. So is it spicy? Yes. So what I call that is probably, my dad called it like a Detroit hot saucers. Like they're different kind of hot. Half smoke. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Half smoke. We ain't got to play with it. We got to call it nothing else. We ain't got to call it nothing else, but what it is. It is a half smoke. You can eat it on a bun. You can eat it.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Pork a knife. A lot of people eat it with a bun. And you would dress it up the same way you would, whatever way you dress up your hot dog. You can pickle it. You can mustard it. Relish.
Starting point is 00:18:40 When I say pickle, I mean relish. Ketchup, which I think is a crime. Like there are parts of the country where ketchup on any of that family is a crime. I'm a member of that club. Unless you're going to have mustard and ketchup. Because the mustard is so awesome,
Starting point is 00:18:56 it negates the ketchup. I'm more of a mustard. Yeah, mustard relish. Calipino, any of those things. I put ketchup on my ketchup. Oh, yeah. Oh, good heavens. You're an alien, man. You put ketchup in your macaroni?
Starting point is 00:19:11 Oh, yeah. You have done that for. That's terrible. You messed up a good. dish. Who hurt you? Oh, it's delicious. It's one of my favorite meals, in fact. It's not the healthy. I didn't know that he did it, D.P. I just gave it. That's your boy. I'm sorry. You know how we say in the South? Dim's your people. He weird. Box is your people. He weird, but I still take it. Yeah. We're going to go to break. Yeah, do your homework. You know what? If I have to import some haps smoke,
Starting point is 00:19:34 let it be done. I'm going to import some haph smoke. But we're going to do that. And then we're going to call Marlena or maybe Chubs and have them, have them grill it up. Okay. Yeah, we'll do that. that. But we go to whistle slappers right down the street. I show you. We're going to get it in, bro. Yeah, all you, I am not, y'all, ketchup people are hilarious. I'm a ketchup person. You are hilarious. I'm a high-dose-7. Yeah, I bet you put ketchup on your steak, too. No. Oh, no, no, I don't do that. Oh, there's the line. Yeah. That's the line you draw. Wow. More one-on-one when we come back.
