You know, you listen to a podcast about the scriptures. The whole conference is going to be about the scriptures. That's what it's going to be about. All different angles, why you could trust them.
Starting point is 00:00:43 I've got some New Testament stuff, some Old Testament stuff, where they came from, all kinds of stuff. Hey, man, come learn about the Bible. That's what I'm telling you. And hang out with a bunch of good people. Eat a bunch of good food. Chad will be there. I'll be there. A whole bunch of other people will be there.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Love to see you there. There are still a few tickets left for that. So go ahead and go to the website, go to the events page, click that link, and register yourself today. Chad, we are in Daniel chapter 7. Didn't get overly far. We kind of knew that this one was going to be a little bit of a marathon in Daniel chapter 7. We're at verse 13. We had a vision of four beasts.
Starting point is 00:01:24 We got to talk a little bit about those, different rulers. and empires that were going to rise up. And then we heard about this Ancient of Days figure that is going to take his seat. Yeah, he's going to take his seat right there in the judgment room of God, and he has a seat right there. And that's kind of where we ended. There's some books that get opened up, and the Dominion of the Beasts are taken away. That's where we're at.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Yeah, we've had a couple of cliffhangers recently, and that's definitely a cliffhanger because of what's coming up next. So most people who hear Daniel 7 immediately think of three words, you know, if they're Bible kind of people. And those three words are son of man, because this is not by no means the only place in the Old Testament where you have the phrase son of man. because Ezekiel is referred to as the son of man a lot, but because of its association with the title that Jesus uses to refer to himself over and over in the Gospels, then typically if you say, hey, what do you associate with Daniel chapter 7? People will say, oh, yeah, the son of man vision.
Starting point is 00:02:46 So anyway, that's what we were almost to when we had to stop last time. So, yeah, picking up with verse 13, which at least in the Bible I'm looking at here on my screen says, The Son of Man is given dominion. Yeah, which is a pretty good title for this section. Yeah. He is certainly given dominion. That does happen in this section. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:11 It's a big part of what happens here. All right, so let me read just two verses, 13 and 14. And there's quite a bit there we'll talk about. So Daniel says that I saw in the night visions. So this is continuing what he's been describing in the first 12 verses. And behold, with the clouds of heaven, there came one like a son of man. And he came to the ancient of days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion.
Starting point is 00:03:45 You could also translate that authority. In fact, I'll come back to this in a second, but the Greek translation translates that with exousia, which is ordinarily translated as authority in the Gospels. So to him was given dominion or authority and glory and a kingdom that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. So I think the first thing that jumps out at me anyway is before you even get to this one like a son of man who comes to the Ancient of Days, that he's coming with the clouds of heaven. And the reason that's important is because, well, even, of course, prior to Daniel chapter 7, when you look back all the way to the Torah, you have the presence of God associated with clouds. I mean, I think especially of the glory cloud that protected the Israelites, went into the tabernacle once it was constructed, into the temple once it was constructed. So clouds and divine presence are intimately linked in the books that are leading up to Daniel.
Starting point is 00:05:08 But then when you go past Daniel, especially when you go into the New Testament, and you hear about clouds and you hear about Jesus, of course, they're connected there as well. So just a couple of passages. Matthew 26, 64. Jesus said to him, this is in his trial. Jesus said to him, you have said so, but I tell you from now on, you will see the son of man seated to the right hand of power and coming on the clouds of heaven. Now there's no way that the chief priest in Sanhedrin who heard Jesus drop those words could have heard them in any other context than Daniel chapter seven. I mean, pretty obvious. And then the parallel to that,
Starting point is 00:05:54 Mark 14, verse 62, Jesus said, I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated to the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven. And then Revelation 1, verse 7, Revelation 14, they all use this connection of clouds to the Son of Man. I think another thing, so that's pretty obvious. I mean, the clouds associated with God's presence, the clouds associated with the Son of Man, with Jesus in the Gospels. You have the transfiguration is a little bit different. That's more the presence of the Father coming to speak to Christ in the Mount of Transfiguration. But yeah, all over the scriptures, you have clouds. And I think just another thing that perhaps might be easy to miss here is that the Son of Man is going to come with the clouds of heaven.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Whereas in contrast, all these other beasts that we heard about before, who were kings, who had dominion, at least a limited dominion. They came out of the sea. So this one comes from heaven, and they came out of the sea. Yeah, the contrast there is pretty obvious where you have these sort of ruler – kingdoms, things that are perceived as fairly negative. I mean these are beasts and this kind of stuff. Those don't have like positive connotations to it. those are coming from below where this son of man is coming from above, right? And so that's sort of the obvious.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And we've talked a lot about the sea, so I won't waste a bunch of time here. But like the sea was synonymous with, hey, out of all this chaos and disorder are going to rise kingdoms. And this is still the way it is today. um that's uh kingdoms rise up uh out of disorder and and chaos and that's what the sea is like synonymous with those things yeah and that's why uh i don't want to belabor this too long like you mentioned we've we talked about this before but that's why also when you get to revelation you have the beast coming out of the sea you have a dragon associated with the sea uh so the sea from really the the second verse of the bible where you have this formlessness and void associated
Starting point is 00:08:08 with water everywhere, from that second verse of the Bible all the way through, well, all the way through the Bible to the very end of Revelation, the sea is associated with the nations, chaos, the ungodly, all those sorts of things. Apologies to all those people out there who love the sea and who love the ocean. Biblically speaking, it's not a good place. Oh, I mean, it's just a good place to go die back in the day. I mean, the sea was a dangerous thing. And that's – they understood that.
Starting point is 00:08:40 One of the things I like about this text – we brought this up now over and over, kind of every time it pops up because when we were doing Isaiah, and you're going to see this kind of stuff pop up a lot in sort of prophetic-type literature, is you have this son of man given dominion and glory, and he's given a kingdom. And then you have this all peoples, nations, language and languages stuff again, which is you just see if you start looking for it in your prophetic literature, you will see how obvious it is that God is like, hey, I'm I'm doing what I'm doing for the world. Yes. Yeah, I was. In fact, I was just thinking about this and writing about this. The book I'm working on right now is going to be on Abraham and Isaac. And I mean, I'm, I think, two chapters in, maybe three. And I'm talking about Genesis 12, the call of Abraham.
Starting point is 00:09:41 And you have it right there, of course, that who's going to be blessed as a result of Abraham and his seed? All the families of the earth. Yeah. Which is just another way of saying all peoples, nations, and languages. There was always a cosmic view of the salvation that God was going to give by means of the Messiah. So it never was just the Jews or select people. It was always worldwide. Yeah, I think that sometimes you can get this impression that that was sort of a New Testament invention.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Like all of a sudden Jesus is like, hey, surprise, I've got a new thing going on. and now the Gentiles are included. And to some degree that's right as far as, like, yes, the Gentiles are included. You have an express command to go out to the ends of the earth and all this kind of stuff and do this. And there is a grafting in in a way that was not as prevalent. But it shouldn't have been a surprise. I mean, it wasn't as though like God just like Jesus came up with this and was like, you know what? Those Jews kind of rejected me.
Starting point is 00:10:58 So guess what? I'm going to the Gentiles. Now, he says things like that and things like that are said like, yeah. But if you're reading the Old Testament, you know that that was always the plan. Yeah, I think it's very interesting because even when you get to like Acts and you're looking at Peter's vision, you know, There was still this, as clear as it is in the prophets, there was still like this, it's like Jesus had to come along and push his own people to do this. You know, he has the vision to Peter, rise and eat. You got to go to this Gentile's house.
Starting point is 00:11:36 You know, the only way I'm going to get you there is by giving you this vision. And so it's one of those strange things about the earliest days of the church when it was, you know, almost primarily Jewish. It still was a push to get them to have this cosmic perspective. And I don't know about you, you know, but when I read through Acts, I always just kind of laugh to myself because where are the apostles? They're still in Jerusalem. Yeah. Now, weren't you the guys that Jesus said, hey, I want you to go to all the nations? What are you still doing in Jerusalem?
Starting point is 00:12:13 You got Paul who's going all over Asia Minor and all the way to Rome, and you guys are hanging out in Jerusalem still. What's up with that? So it was this, like, delayed reaction. It took a while to finally get them to go where Jesus had sent them to go. Yeah, yeah. there is uh this weird thing because yeah if you read matthew 28 and then uh you're like hey where's the next part of this you're like well you can just you know you go to acts chapter one and uh and you see yeah immediately they're like you know huddled up well okay maybe they're just
Starting point is 00:12:46 they're waiting for the spirit that's what they're doing like jesus told and then like you know the spirit comes pretty early you know in the book of acts and then uh you know 10 chapters later Paul's got to go to Jerusalem. This is where all the guys are. And so you're like, what are these guys doing? Were they not told to go? Yeah. I know.
Starting point is 00:13:05 It is a—I laugh. It's not really funny, but it is humorous because it's human nature. It's like, you guys are supposed to be doing what Paul's doing. Paul wasn't even there for the Great Commission. Right. Paul's carrying out the Great Commission. They're, you know, administratively taking care of things in Jerusalem. The one apostle who wasn't present for this commission is the only one out there doing it.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Yeah. So anyway, it's going to be for all people. So back to verse 13 in these night visions. He's with the clouds of heaven. There came one like a son of man. So there are libraries full of books on this particular topic. This has been a huge topic of research for the last, I don't know, 200 years. And it's, you know, it's like almost all scholarship.
Starting point is 00:14:00 It goes this way and then it backtracks and it goes that way. I was reading a book recently, academic work recently about recent scholarship on the Son of Man. But just to kind of keep it real streamlined, you'll encounter various understandings of who this is. I mean, obviously, we believe that this is in reference to the Messiah, because it is. But sometimes you'll hear it's collective figure, that this isn't an individual. This is a, he symbolizes the people of God. And the reason that people will put forward is because, we'll get to this in a second, but later in Daniel chapter 7, you have the same language that is applied to the Son of
Starting point is 00:14:43 Man, applied to the saints of the Most High, to the believers. And so people will then say, oh, well, then this must not be an individual son of man. It must just be a metaphorical way of describing the entire people of God. Now, what they get wrong is that what God, what the Ancient of Days gives to the Son of Man, his people participate in, right? So you have, I mean, it's the image of Christ the head and the church is the body. So what the head has, the body has. What the body has, the head has. So what is given to the Son of Man is given to also the saints of the Most High. But you will, on occasion, encounter this collective interpretation of the Son of Man.
Starting point is 00:15:25 And even though it's not as popular, sometimes people will say, well, this is like Michael. This is a representative angel, you know, one of the bigwig angels like Michael or Gabriel, high-ranking angel. And he is kind of representing God's people before the heavenly court. But by far, I mean, all over the Gospels and throughout church history, and even before the New Testament, In books like 1 Enoch and then a book called 4 Ezra, you have the Son of Man in Daniel 7 understood messianically. And of course, this is the way the Gospels present this over and over and over as well. So the only thing that makes sense, certainly theologically, but also even just on the basis of the text itself, is that this, yes, is in fact the anointed one of God who is here called one like a son of man because of his incarnation. He actually takes on our humanity while, of course, remaining fully divine.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Yeah, I mean, what belongs to Christ, he gives to his church, so they look the same. Most importantly, his righteousness, right? So they really look the same. This is actually an important thing, is that the church look like Christ, and not because we're out here doing all the things that Christ did. I mean, we're trying to do as much Christ-like stuff as we can, but that what belongs to Christ, he gives to the church, and it belongs to the church. And the church is what in Christ. And so, yeah, you can do this sort of, hey, this body looks a whole lot like its head kind of stuff. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:21 So that's why you have the same language. We'll get to it in a minute, but that's why he had that same language that applied to the saints in the Most High that's also applied to the Son of Man. So he comes to the Ancient of Days, was presented before him, and verse 14 says, To him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom. I always hear the concluding doxology of the Lord's Prayer when I come across those words. For thine is the kingdom and the power, there's your word for dominion,
Starting point is 00:17:51 and the glory forever, forever and ever. I don't know if that was the basis of that doxology. But anyway, I always think about it when I hear those words. I mean, how many times have you had people ask you, like all of a sudden, I don't know, maybe they're reading the gospel for the first time and they realize that that's not in the prayer? Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:10 And they're like, wait, where did that come from? Yeah, I can't remember where it's at. It's either, it's in Chronicles, 1 and 2 Chronicles. You have a verse similar to that. But, yeah, Daniel 7, 14 might also have been the reason behind that particular language that was given. So to him was given this dominion. And I pointed out earlier that in the Greek, that would be exousia, which is usually translated authority. Now, what's kind of cool here is to hear verse 14 echoed in gospel text.
Starting point is 00:18:45 And the one that comes immediately to mind, we've already talked about it just a couple of minutes ago. Matthew 28. In fact, if you look in the Greek translation of Daniel 7, and then the Greek of Matthew 28, 18, you have the same verb for given, and you have the same noun for authority used both in Daniel 7, 14, and in Matthew 28, 18. Jesus says in Matthew 28, to me is given all authority and here you have to him verse 14 to him was given dominion or authority and then of course in matthew 28 jesus goes on to talk about what well all the nations he's got all authority in heaven and on earth therefore go make disciples of all nations well in verse 14 you have kind of the precursor to the great commission because here he's given dominion
Starting point is 00:19:39 no authority, and all people's nations, languages are going to serve him. And then another text, which I think might be also, I don't know, it's not directly quoting this, but maybe hinting at it, is in the Gospels when Jesus heals the man who's let down in the roof by his buddies. And, you know, he, first of all, forgives him before he heals him. And like in Mark 10, In Mark 2, verse 10, it says the Son of Man, not I or something else, but the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. And of course, that same Greek word authority that's used in Mark 2, 10 is the same one that's used in the Greek translation of Matthew 7, 14. So anyway, the Gospels, you had Jesus using the same kind of language that he has authority or dominion or power to do the things that he does, whether it's forgiving sins, as God does, or sending out his disciples to make disciples of all nations, because he has authority in heaven and on earth. yeah yeah no i mean that's when jesus says that when he says hey all authority has been given to
Starting point is 00:20:54 me uh what am i going to do with that authority uh i'm going to send you out to the nations that's what i'm going to do with it uh this is all very daniel seven yeah yeah very very much so and then uh just one more thing before we move on and that is that this kind of language that we have in Daniel 7, we heard earlier in Daniel 2. We pointed out a couple times already that Daniel 7 and Daniel 2 are kind of cousins to one another, because you have the four kingdoms represented in Daniel 2 by the statue, you have the four kingdoms represented in Daniel 7 by the various beasts, and then you have this kingdom of the Son of Man in Daniel 7 being represented earlier by the kingdom that is established when you have this stone
Starting point is 00:21:42 that's cut by no human hand that breaks in pieces the statue and then becomes a kingdom that will not be destroyed, will continue forever. And the way this ends when it says this kingdom is one that shall never be destroyed, that's then in contrast, of course, to the other kingdoms that we've been hearing about, whether the Babylonians, the Persians, or the Medes or the Greeks or the Romans, all those kingdoms are going to come and they're going to go. They will be destroyed. They will be replaced. But this is the kingdom that shall endure forever and ever because God has established it as the everlasting kingdom of God. Okay, that takes us to verse 15. So we're going to hear now about the interpretation of all this.
Starting point is 00:22:32 A lot of this ground we already covered, so we don't have to spend as much time on these verses. But the first 14 are kind of the vision that Daniel has. And now he's going to be given this angelic interpretation of all of these events, or at least most of these events. Verse 15 says, first of all, that Daniel says, as for me, my spirit within me was anxious and the visions of my head alarmed me. Well, I'm sure they did a lot of weird stuff happening here. I approached, verse 16, I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things. I think I may have pointed this out before, but if I have, forgive me, just point it out again, that this is a pretty
Starting point is 00:23:24 common approach that you have in a lot of literature like this. In Daniel, you're going to see it in books like Zechariah. You're going to see it in Revelation where there's a vision followed by an interpretation. And sometimes these are like just back to back, like one verse, here's its interpretation, or two verses, here's its interpretation. And this sets up kind of a pattern that you're going to see in apocalyptic literature. Okay, here's this vision with all this strange, symbolic stuff going on. What does it mean? And then an angel steps forward and says, oh, I can tell you. That's what's going to happen here. So he's going to make known the interpretation of the things. And that's what he begins to do in verse 17.
Starting point is 00:24:08 And that's so that then Christians can spend a lot of time arguing about the interpretation. Yes, right. Yeah. So here's the progression. Vision, angelic interpretation, myriad interpretations by various Christians of what the angelic interpreter actually meant when he interpreted the vision. Okay, so verse 17 is pretty straightforward. These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth. All right, we've already got some, you know, it's a helpful interpretation. If you couldn't figure that out already, well, okay this is these are kings or kingdoms so it's not always just like a king but a king kind of embodies or represents his kingdom so these are four kings of four kingdoms who shall arise out
Starting point is 00:25:02 of the earth so in the vision they came out of the sea but here we have the interpretation meaning yeah they didn't literally come out of the sea but they came out of the earth these are earthly kingdoms verse 18 now this is what i was talking about earlier with the collective identification of the son of man this is where people get this verse 18 but the saints of the most high shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever forever and ever so this is of course what we just talked about where the son of man yeah he receives the kingdom and he gives that to his people so that they are participants in the kingdom which he has received from the the ancient of days okay verse 19 so daniel wants to know understandably wants to know more about that
Starting point is 00:25:54 fourth beast so this was the the kingdom of rome that we that we talked about so he begins by just kind of describing it again he elaborates a little bit on what he saw earlier i desire to know the truth about the fourth beast which is different from all the rest exceedingly terrifying with its teeth of iron and claws of bronze that's a new detail we didn't hear before teeth of iron and claws of bronze which devoured and broken pieces and stamped what was left with its feet so he wants to know about that and verse 20 and about the 10 horns that were on its head and the other horn that came up and before which three of them fell the horn that has eyes and a mouth and that spoke great things and that seemed greater than its companions.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Yeah, and it seems like something you'd want to know more about. You're like, so there was this other thing in this vision, and I've got to tell you, I'm a little confused by it. Let me describe it to you. Yes, yeah. Yeah, so he does a pretty good job of summarizing what he saw and then adding a few things, which he just didn't mention the first time around, such as being greater than its companions
Starting point is 00:27:08 or that it had these claws of bronze. You know, it wasn't quite scary enough yet. Let's also add some bronze claws to it just to kind of fill out this terrifying picture. So verse 21 says, As I looked, this horn made war with the saints and prevailed over them until the Ancient of Days came and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High
Starting point is 00:27:34 and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom all right so we're going to get more about this interpretation in a second but he's still kind of elaborating on what he saw and the implication of this where this horn is warring with the saints prevailing over them for a while he's oppressing them he's waging war against them mainly by the words of his mouth as we talked about just momentarily talked about a little bit uh in the last episode and then the ancient of days does what he does he comes and he gives he renders judgment for the saints of the most high and then they possess the kingdom all right so that's primarily just daniel rehearsing what he saw and adding a few details so verse 23
Starting point is 00:28:27 is going to get us to the interpretation it's put forward by the angel Thus he said, He shall speak words against the Most High and shall wear out the saints of the Most High and shall think to change the times and the law, and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. See, this is the kind of interpretation that lends itself to disagreement when you start saying stuff like that. Yeah. I don't know. I sometimes want to hear these interpretations. I'm like, I don't know. This sounds like it needs some more elaboration. This sounds more like just stacking a vision on top of a vision. If I was Daniel right now, I'd be like, well, let me tell you, that's clear as mud, dude. yes yeah which of course is why we have uh lots of different interpretations of of these verses so uh to begin with and we we've covered this i think two episodes ago the fourth kingdom
Starting point is 00:30:08 uh referring to to rome it's it's gonna be yeah it's i think everybody would agree this is different from all the kingdoms that came before there was nothing i mean as great as the the babylonians were as great as the persians were as great as the greeks were i mean nothing had ever happened like the roman empire so much more metal there's so much this teeth in these bronze it seems like appropriate where you're like when you think about rome and like anything that came before it's not that there wasn't metal or whatever but like so much so much metal so much armor and so you know like the whole thing yeah yeah there was there was never anything like the like the roman empire with its the the power that it wielded the destruction that that came
Starting point is 00:30:58 with it the peoples that were subjugated slaughtered enslaved all those things the extent the geographical extent of the Roman Empire. There just was nothing, nothing like it. So that's why it is described the way that it is. Now, I think that's pretty clear. Verse 24, though, is where things get a little bit murky, at least for most interpretation. So as for the 10 horns, out of this kingdom, 10 kings shall arise.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Now, there's people who interpret this quite literally. there's going to be 10 particular rulers who are going to come forth from this. My own tendency is to understand that there's going to be 10 kings or 10 kingdoms, and not necessarily 10 as opposed to 9 or 11, but just a number of kings or kingdoms that arise after the Roman Empire. And historically, we know that to be the case. I mean, eventually, of course, there's all kinds of debate among historians as to the exact date of the fall of the Roman Empire. But whatever date you put on that, you certainly had a lot of kingdoms that arose out of the aftermath of that, you know, splitting here and there, all over the place.
Starting point is 00:32:25 So that's the way that I take that verse. after them another shall arise after them and he shall be different from the former ones he shall put down three kings and again i'm not taking that literally uh this one that arises after them is going to surpass those who came before him it's not like he's going to be stronger than the other 10 but he's going to be stronger than those who came before him and he's going to be able to wield authority and power he's going to do something with that authority and that power and verse 25 tells us what that is he shall speak words against the most high and shall wear out the saints of the most high and shall think to change the times and the law and they should be
Starting point is 00:33:16 given into his hand for a time times and half a time so we know now on the basis of this what his chief goal is, what his, I guess, mission would be. And that is basically to attack God's people. And to do that by changing the times and the law. So the times would refer to worship just in general, and the law would refer to God's teaching. So that's the main way he's going to make war against the saints in the Most High. He's going to attack their worship. He's going to attacked the Word of God. So this is describing a spiritual war that's taking place by this figure. Now, how you interpret that figure is going to vary from person to person. My approach to this is to take this in more of a general sense that any worldly power who is attempting to attack the
Starting point is 00:34:10 people of God through whatever means that might be, whether it's actual force or whether it's through lies or deception, going after the worship of the Most High, going after the Word of God, sowing discord and lies and all these sorts of things. That's the way I take this particular figure that Paul would refer to as the man of lawlessness in his letters to the Thessalonians. Revelation 13, which has—we don't have time to get into it. We could spend a lot of time Comparing Daniel 7 with Revelation 13 and the beast that comes out of the sea, there's a lot of parallels between what's happening in those two chapters. But anyway, I take all of this to be representative of whatever worldly power, concentrated either in an individual or many individuals, that are seeking to undermine the gospel and to attack the church. Yeah, I think this is more a spirit than an individual person, right?
Starting point is 00:35:17 So this has happened – individual people or rulers or whatever have been the vehicle for this sort of thing many times over. But the spirit is the same in all of it. Yeah. Yeah. And how long is this going to go on? Well, the end of 25 tells us that they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a times. This is a pretty common, I guess you'd call it apocalyptic idiom because it appears here and it appears in Revelation in various sorts of ways. So times, or a time, times, and half a times is three and a half.
Starting point is 00:36:06 This doesn't mean three and a half years. This is not talking about, you know, the supposed seven-year tribulation, the first half of that. This is just three and a half times. Now, in Revelation, this is described various ways. Sometimes it's 42 months, Revelation 11 and 12. Revelation 11 and 13 describe it as 42 months. Revelation 11 and 12 also use days. They refer to 1,260 days.
Starting point is 00:36:32 revelation 12 has the same language of time times and half a time and then yeah then you have the so it's described in terms of days or months or time times and in half a time i kind of like this expression that it's a uh oh what's oh a broken seven is the way that some people were referred to this as a so the idea is basically this is not a a complete time this is a time that god has on a leash as it were it's yeah it's temporary and because of its occurrence here and because of its occurrence in those parts of revelation 12 11 12 and 13 uh i it seems to refer to the entire new testament period so this is this is referring to the the time when the son of man is enthroned given authority until the time that find the final judgment comes is this time times
Starting point is 00:37:28 in half the time. The entire time from Christ's ascension and enthronement to when He comes again is when you have this wearing out of the saints in the Most High, as they are persecuted, attacked by various figures with a spirit of lawlessness, seeking to draw them away from Christ. Isn't part of the sort of broken seven, at least this is the way I understand it, this has to do with with also where you have uh it's stated that you know that god cuts this time short like so he like breaks into it right so they get this would this would be an incomplete measure of time where uh somewhere in the midst of it god decides to end it yes yes yeah that's a great way to to think about the broken seven too yeah so it's not going it's not going on for
Starting point is 00:38:19 seven times in the sense of this seemingly unending period. Oh, God's going to step in. He's going to put it to an end whenever that time comes. All right. So I think we have enough time to wrap this up before the end of our 40 minutes. So the verse 26 says, but the court shall sit in judgment and his dominion shall be taken away. This persecuting power who is going after the saints of the most high his dominion shall be taken away to be consumed and destroyed to the end and the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdom kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to now listen to whom they're given to the people of the saints of the most high his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom and all dominions shall serve and obey
Starting point is 00:39:11 him. So again, we have this dual aspect. So the kingdom is given to the people of the saints in the Most High, as well as to him, that is to the Son of Man. And then just to read this closing verse of Daniel 7, here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly alarmed me and my color changed, but I kept the matter in my heart. Thankfully, he wrote it down, too. He kept the matter in his heart. He wrote it all down for us. It's quite a chapter. I mean, you've got basically the entire New Testament period, which is described here, as well as the centuries leading up to it, from the time the Babylonians arrived on the scene, to the Medes and the Persians, the Greeks, and the Romans, and then the enthronement of the Son of Man,
Starting point is 00:40:06 given all authority, the persecution of the church, all of the spiritual attacks that the saints of the Most High have to endure as they're worn out by this. And finally, the final judgment or evil will be finally destroyed and the kingdom of God established on the basis of god's grace and favor given to the saints in the most time yeah this is uh you get this in revelation too right where the hell is actually kindled up for the destruction of this particular thing right so where like so that like the beast is thrown there the prophet's thrown there like death itself is thrown there and i think when you see like this language like uh you could use it you could use something else but he decides to use this thing
Starting point is 00:40:54 in which his dominion is taken away to be consumed and destroyed. And this is like the consuming fire of God. God is just going to consume up all this power and this persecution. Yeah, and you read things like that, and maybe your initial reaction might be a little bit of fear, but step back from it. And really what you're hearing in Daniel 7 is, oh, this is the same message that Revelation has,
Starting point is 00:41:22 has, that the Lamb wins, or in Daniel 7, the Son of Man wins, and all those who belong to Him, they win as well because of the victory that is given to Him and the kingdom given to Him by the Ancient of Days. So Daniel 7 is just brimming with gospel when you hear it in terms of the fulfillment of all things by Christ and the kingdom that is established in Him. Oh, yeah. Daniel 7 is God wins. That's what it's about. Yeah, absolutely. All right. Well, we are out of time, so we will leave it there. Hey, you want to know about like a goat? Want a vision about a goat?
