Starting point is 00:00:00 Which is better? Burger King or Wendy's? What if you don't have to choose? What do you mean? But I just wanted to be like cute and sassy for once. What is cute and sassy? This is a hot dog as a sandwich. Ketchup is a smoothie. Yeah, I put ice in my cereal, so what?
Starting point is 00:00:23 That makes no sense. A hot dog is a sandwich. A hot dog is a sandwich. What? Welcome to our podcast, A Hot Dog is a sandwich to the show where we cutely and sassily break down the world's biggest food debates. I'm your cute and sassy host Josh Sherr. And I'm your sassy and cute host, Nicole and I-Aid. Would you describe me as sassy?
Starting point is 00:00:45 No. I don't think I'm sassy. You've never been sassy before. No, you're not sassy. I'm not sassy. I'm so cute, though. Who's the sassiest person we know? I can't tell you.
Starting point is 00:00:55 O. T. Clock it. I've learned two for doing this. I think we have the same answer. Do we? I think so. What is it? Give me a hint. Give me a hint.
Starting point is 00:01:04 You don't get to know, but give me a hint. Give me a hint. I'm embarrassed. They work here? Yeah. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. What does we know?
Starting point is 00:01:15 Oh, no, we know people outside of work. We know people outside of work. We know Josh Cantor. Oh, my gosh. He's not sassy. He's not sassy. He's just a nice guy. He actually asked me how you guys were on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:01:26 I saw him on Sunday. He misses you guys a lot. And he's so proud of us. I miss when he and I were in the same political science. classroom learning about the politics of modern China. I think we were in that class. You two are the same man, different fonts. We really are, man.
Starting point is 00:01:39 You're very similar. Yeah, well. Well, hi, Cantor, if you're listening, hi. That's not what we're doing today. Today we're going to be eating Wendy's and eating Burger King and deciding which one's better. Do you already have a favorite going into this? I have been recently, okay, fast food, you sort of go in waves and eras of your life.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Sure, yes. Right. Nothing has ever had a stronger pull on me than, like, Taco Bell from, let's say, 2002 to 2008. Right. Big, big run. I still love Taco Bell this day, but that run was like Elite. I used to also love Wendy's when I was younger because this was when we were still, like, quite, quite poor, only, dollar menu only. We were the fast food kind of poor that was only eating on the dollar menu. Watercup, Steel Sprite in the water cup.
Starting point is 00:02:24 I did that the other day. Wendy's had the best dollar menu. Dang it, Nicole. You ruined it. For the poor people that have to steal the spread. I just had, I needed just one sip of Diet Coke. And it was great. But, like, Wendy's had the best dollar menu back in the day, because you could get their dollar
Starting point is 00:02:39 Caesar salad that had real Parmesan cheese and bacon bits on it. You would get it. And a baked potato and a chili and a junior cheeseburger. $4. It's, like, a luxurious five-course meal. It's incredible. Getting salad from a fast food place. My mom was a McDonald's salad girl.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Yeah. They had good salads. How does it make you feel getting a salad? from a fast. I'd still do it. I'd still do it. Yeah, I got a Carl's Jr. cell the other day. Yeah. Actually, Carl's Jr. has this is a Wendy's and Burger King. But like, I'll go to a fast food restaurant and get something like healthy that kind of satisfies macros. Charles Jr. has a really great grilled chicken sandwich. They have two actually. They have Santa Fe and the barbecue. I'm a big fan of grilled chicken sandwiches versus crispy chicken sandwiches. Bring back the grilled chickens. I make a lot of grilled chicken sandwiches at home. Me too. Me too. I make a lot of grilled chicken sandwiches. I make a lot of grilled chicken sandwiches. Wendy does it. Wendy's has grilled chicken. But that's not here.
Starting point is 00:03:30 No, but I loved Wendy's. Wendy's, I sort of fell out of love with them, weirdly, when they went into their Baconator era. Wow, really? Just because I never thought the Baconator was the best burger, per se. Like, even I would take Jack in the Box's Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger over Wendy's Baconator. Well, the first thing we're going to try is bacon cheeseburgers. But that's what they became known for, right? But I missed the, like, Wendy, the Wendy's Chub.
Starting point is 00:03:56 No, that was Jack and Box. I did the Chabotaburger burgers. You're talking about the Oceago? Wendy's did the Chabata burgers, right? Wendy's did like the Chabata line of sandwiches that were incredible. I miss when they had a lot of variety on it. So I kind of fell out of love with them. Been falling back in love with Burger King.
Starting point is 00:04:10 That's awesome. I think the flame grilled Whopper is unbeatable as far as fast food hamburgers go. Don't even need cheese on it. I didn't get it with cheese. You shouldn't. The wopper does not come with cheese automatically and you should not put the cheese. I mean, put cheese on your wapper if you want to. But for me, like, I love the taste of a wopper, the big wopper.
Starting point is 00:04:28 wide pickles, the salty sweet of the mayonnaise and ketchup. Right. And this bad boy, long chicken. Okay, I think we have to wait to talk about long chicken a little bit later. We can wait. We can wait. What are you leaning towards? Gosh, you know, I never grew up eating either of these.
Starting point is 00:04:43 We were always either McDonald's or Jack in the Box. So I never grew up with a taste for Wendy's or for Burger King. You're looking at it from fresh eyes. I truly am. I mean, the only time I've ever eaten these is on the show in one way or another. I did get Wendy's one time when I was driving home from a late night on a Saturday night, and Wendy's was the only thing open on Sunset Boulevard. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:07 And I remember doing that maybe when I was like 22. But that was the last time I had Wendy's outside of work. The spicy nuggets. The Frosty is elite. I'll say that. I love a Frosty. I also like the Frosty. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Let's dig into this. Let's let the mouths do the talking, as opposed to letting my butthole do the talking, which is what I normally do. You want to do the double bacon eater? Yes. Okay. Let's do it. Okay. And I believe there is...
Starting point is 00:05:30 And so we're pitting the Baconator against... A bacon cheeseburger. I'll get you the actual name right now. It's called the Bacon King. The Bacon King, but not a bacon whopper because now you can get... No. Also, Burger King, they did a great... I love one of the fast food places like apologize.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Why do they say sorry? Literally Burger King, they had a big Super Bowl ad that was like, hey, we heard your complaints. So everyone said that our burgers kind of suck now. And so this one? Yeah, I'll open them both up. And so that's our bad. fully redesigned the whopper from the ground up. Oh, I do remember that. I do remember that.
Starting point is 00:06:02 So this is our bacon burgers. As you can see. The Baconator has the iconic square patties. Dude, wide. Here's, this is why I love burking. Wide burger. Wide not tall. Wide.
Starting point is 00:06:15 It's so wide. I do love a wide burger. Are you okay? Why that is? It's beautiful. I mean, smell them. Smell them. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Switch back. I am inhaling the Baconator. I am now. inhaling the bacon king. Oh, the smell of the bacon king is incredible. Grilled. What an olfaxion. What an olfaction.
Starting point is 00:06:38 People are sleeping on the gosh dang whopper, man. Are they sleeping on the Burger King? Okay. Right? Where we at? A very sweet bun. That's the first thing I notice. The sweetness and the pilloniness of the bun really, really helps with that bacon
Starting point is 00:06:56 fat. It makes a very harmonious. That's a very harmonious bacon cheeseburger. Also, no veggies on this. No veggies on it. Doesn't eat veggies. This is a standard bacon king. I've never ordered this.
Starting point is 00:07:07 A standard bacon king. Two flame grilled patties, American cheese, and bacon. I just think the actual flame grilled patty at Burger King is like really, really nice. That was really good. And it's a flavor that, like, you can't get at all. Like, if you don't have... That killed it. I know.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Whoa. Okay, I'm really excited to try the bacon eater. Wendy's is very proud of their bacon. How does it stack up? Meat for meat, I've never been impressed with Wendy's actual meat patties. Meat for meat? No. The bacon is delicious.
Starting point is 00:07:39 But it doesn't have that harmonious, delicious flavor that the Bacon King does. The Bacon King reign supreme. Yeah. That's crazy. I'm telling you, like, Wendy's has a sweeter bun. Is it sweeter? Can I... I think this is a redesigned bun for Whopper.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Can you give me a pinch of the bun? I want to taste some side by side. Wendy's is doing that like sheenie kind of brio, like not brioche. What Americans would look at and think is a brioche bun, you know what I mean? Which is just kind of like a shiny top. Like that has nothing to do with what real French brioches. Yeah, I just, I don't see a world in which Wendy's Baconator can touch. Not even.
Starting point is 00:08:21 You're right. The bread on the bacon eater is sweeter, but I will say the bite of the entire baking king has a sweetness to it. probably got the ketchup more off the bat on the baking cake. It's the ketchup. It's the ketchup. Also, is this bun toasted? That bun's toasted. This bun's surely toasted, right? Yeah, yeah. Both are equally toasted. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I just, the... Knocks out of the park.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Wendy's, what do you think their, like, strongest core competency is? Because if you're just going, like, burger for burger, like, I've never found McDonald's burgers to be that compelling. Right. I like their, you know, the, they be a very unique taste with the ketchup and the mustard and the little diced. and the little diced onions and whatever. But once McDonald's started making premium burgers, the big and tasty is the first one that I can think of. You know, it's just like, well, now you're competing with everybody else. You know, and I would just much rather have like a Whopper or a famous star from Carl's. I must say, I think it's the deals like you were talking about.
Starting point is 00:09:15 The four-for-four with the nuggets and the, yeah, yeah. I will always know Wendy's as the four-for-four people and also the ones that had a lot of freshness on their menu. I feel like they really valued putting, like, freshness. lettuce, their tomatoes were a little bit more curated. You would never see a white tomato on a Wendy's burger. Burger King, you would. You will see a white-ass tomato on a Burger King. Look at the bacon. So we have Wendy's over here. We have Burger King over here. This Wendy's bacon is completely flaccid, unrendered. Burger King, like, it's well cooked. Neither are, like, thick cup premium bacon. No. But everything about this Burger King burger is more well done
Starting point is 00:09:52 than Wendy's. It is a Burger King. It is a Burger King. It is a Burger King day. Is it Burying Day? I think it might be Burying Day. Dude, Burying? Might sweep this whole damn thing. That's crazy. Might sweep the whole damn thing. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:05 What do you want to try? Do you want to do? What do you want to do? Should we do the Frosty? Do you eat the Frosty? I think that's fair. I think that's fair. Where were you when you had your first frosty?
Starting point is 00:10:14 It would have been Rancho Santa Margarita, California, probably in the back of my dad's 1980. Oh, if you think I grew up rich, you're right. Because we had a 1984 Toyota Tercell. This would have been in the year two. 2002 or something. And we once got pulled over for impeding the flow of traffic, not even on the freeway, on Santa Margarita Parkway, which is like a three-lane road through a 50,000-person town.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Because we had large sons and a large father, about 620 pounds of person probably combined. And the pedal is to the metal, and we couldn't go over 35. And it probably would have been in the backseat of that car going through, the drive-thru near the family Honda Center where he sometimes played basketball there's a Wendy's. I would have had a frosty and I would have
Starting point is 00:11:05 just been so impressed by it. Gosh. One thing about me and Josh, we love malt. I love malt. I don't think there's malt in there. What is that? I think it's vanilla. Are you sure there's no malt in there? Look it up. See if you can find it. It's so malty. Is there malt? There could be malt.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Maltz in a frost. So Dave Thomas, founder of He created the Frosty because he loved chocolate, but he didn't want the chocolate to be overwhelming for the burgers. He wanted the burgers to always be the star. And so he was, I guess, inspired. There was a racetrack in Ohio where this was founded that mixed chocolate and vanilla shakes together. And he was inspired by that as kind of a lighter chocolate taste. And also, funny thing, if you look historically, like chocolate and vanilla, the fact that we think of them as opposites is crazy.
Starting point is 00:11:54 because like they were they were drank almost exclusively together in like the Azteus both of them are from the Aztec Empire or at least like Maya, the Mesoamerican empires
Starting point is 00:12:04 to like chocolate and vanilla go so beautifully together one's kind of bitter and earthy and then the other one's like floral and light and I think that's what's happening at a frosty.
Starting point is 00:12:13 You are 100% right there's no malt in a frosty which is crazy. I know. It is such a again I don't know man harmony is on my mind and I'm just going to keep
Starting point is 00:12:22 talking about harmonious flavors. Wendy's... It could use a touch of salt, but other than that... Yeah, because you love salt in your merchants. I know. I know.
Starting point is 00:12:31 How good is that? I don't think there's anything better than that. Dude, I will say the only other dessert from a fast food restaurant is just McDonald's soft serve. Oh, on a cone? On a cone? And, like, the texture of that... How did it make you feel?
Starting point is 00:12:45 It's... There's certain fast foods that, like, some fast foods I ate as an adult, frankly, the baconator is one of them where I'm just like, that wasn't very good. That was not a good food. Yeah. And then there's some fast foods that I eat through the lens of an adult, and I'm just like... That was awesome. We did it.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Yeah. We perfected the soft serve. Oh, my God. Whatever chemicals are using to stabilize that. You like the cinnabon little... The little cinnamon balls? Yes. What about the jack in the box?
Starting point is 00:13:08 Oh, the ones from Taco Bell, you mean? Yeah. The cinnabund delights? Yeah. They're fine. They're not as good as a cinnabun. I see. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:15 I see. I had... Have you ever had the jack-in-the-box dual-since-churos? Yeah. Now, those are the best fast... They're fine. A lot of those, this Hershey's pie is so sweet that it burns my throat. Like, actually, it's pretty delicious, though.
Starting point is 00:13:30 It's like... Remember when we tried those peanut butter and the Skippy peanut butter had this really fluffy mouth feel? Yeah, yeah. The mouth feel of this is incredibly fluffy. It almost tastes like a Mississippi mudslide or a French silk pie. Yeah. Which is pretty impressive, but... It's, like, pretty damn good and well-constructed.
Starting point is 00:13:48 The chocolate syrup on top sucks. Yeah, yeah, that's the commercial chocolate syrup. Mm-hmm. But it is burning my throat. I need to literally eat a bite of Frosty to cleanse my palate. The Frosty wins this one, without a doubt. Easy. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:03 I mean, I take a Frosty over... Carl's Jr. has really good milkshakes. They started hand-dipping their milkshakes about 15 years ago. They have good milkshakes. They have good milkshakes. So do Shake Shack. I might take that over. Shake-Shack is good, too.
Starting point is 00:14:15 In-and-out, bad milkshakes. McDonald's, bad milkshakes. Jack-in-box, bad milkshakes. Frosty might be the best. I love a vanilla frosty, too. They've been doing more flavors. Man, that can't be... I think they have a mango passion fruit one right now.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Really? Should have got that one, sorry. I'm going to have a sip. The only thing that can compete is the... Tarot pie from... I was going to say mango peach, but... Did you see that story about the pop star who rented out an entire amusement park
Starting point is 00:14:44 just for a casual Tuesday afternoon date? It sounds fun, but for those of us without a stadium tour budget, making our money work for us takes a little bit more strategy. Starting point is 00:15:28 That's K-L-A-R-N-A dot-com, Clarna. California resident loans made her a range pursuant to a California finance law license NM-LS, number 135-3-1-190. Clarned Balance account required to be eligible for cashback points, limitations, terms, and conditions, blight. Man, I do, too. Okay, Burger King, at this point, I don't think Wendy's can touch them in the overall. But I think that they can sneak around.
Starting point is 00:15:57 In what way? You know what? I think they can steal one of these. I think Wendy's can come through on like the chicken sentinel, the long chicken's page. No, come on. This is where I think Burger King might falter is you've chosen to get the tacos from Burger King. Okay, so I decided because I want to keep it fun to do a wild card round of something that's a little bit. As you should have. Something a little out of the box, something you wouldn't anticipate.
Starting point is 00:16:16 And I thought the Burger King tacos is a good one. I don't think I've ever had a Burger King taco, which is crazy because I've had Jack the Box tacos? I've had Jack the Box tacos. I've had Jack the Box tacos. Because the Lakers, whenever they would win, you would get two for you. tacos from Jack in the Box? No, I don't know if I ever redeemed. Because, listen.
Starting point is 00:16:32 You're not a true, I don't even like basketball like that. You've gotten the free tacos? Yeah, of course. It's like if they reach 100 points and the other team doesn't and they win. It's part of L.A. history to do that. It costs like 79 cents for two tacos. It's fun. It used to be 79 cents for two tacos.
Starting point is 00:16:47 It's fun. And then you would have to like wait in like a long ass drive-through line. Yeah, but it's fun. Yeah, I guess. I don't think I ever retrieved them. It's like building memories. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:57 That's one of my favorite marriages with my brother. I love that you have him. Burger King Taco, though. I've never even seen this in the flesh. I've never seen this. This is crazy. Be careful with the lettuce. What?
Starting point is 00:17:10 Oh my God. Logan, if I get the parasite that makes me poop my pants. I deserve it. I deserve it. This is my right as an American citizen. I'm a sovereign citizen. If I don't get it, I'm going to be really pissed off that the virus didn't choose me. This is crazy.
Starting point is 00:17:25 There's American cheese. what looks to be ketchup. It's got to be taco sauce. Some sort of... It's got to be taco sauce. It can't be ketchup. It's got to be taco sauce. If you tell me it is ketchup, I'm going to riot.
Starting point is 00:17:36 It doesn't have much of it taste. It is taco sauce. Thank you. Taco sauce was invented to be a mixture of ketchup and salsa, which I think is funny. I will be not eating the lettuce, even though it did come into contact with the meat. But you know what? That's the fun part about living through pandemics and stuff and, like, outbreaks and stuff. You like adjust.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Wow, my taco did not look as crazy as your taco. Your taco looks insane. insane compared to mine. Your taco's been through it. It's depressing. Hmm? You like, it's like oil-logged. This is way better than Jack in the Box.
Starting point is 00:18:08 It is better, but it's disgusting to eat. You know what's funny about these? It tastes like sourdough. There's a sourdust do it. I'm enjoying this more than I thought I would. I think it's a citric acid in the taco. I think it is. Sauce that's making it taste like sourdough bread.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Ew, I can't even. I can't even. This is better than just. jack in the box. What's funny about this is like this, so Taco Bell's like the idea of a crunchy taco is based off of a what's called a Taco Dorado.
Starting point is 00:18:37 You have tacos Dorados, golden tacos made with barbaco with beans with potatoes. Great delicacy from from Halisko. But like they look more like this. Not the weird markings, the weird scarrings on the I don't know what the weird scarring are. I think they call these cyber sigil tattoos
Starting point is 00:18:54 like Anthony Padilla. Cyber Sigil tattoo. Can we call it cyber-sigilism, that style of tattoo that, like, Anthony has. Oh, I don't know. Like, the lines running, like, through his veins. I haven't watched Inkmaster in a long time. That's so funny. Who hosted that?
Starting point is 00:19:08 It was like Dave Navarro. So great. This is way, this is the 10 times better than I expected. I expect to be disgusted. Oh, it is so much worse than I remembered. That's so funny. No, I had very low. I had very low expectations for that.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Did you say something about a potato earlier? Yeah, yeah. Did you get Wendy's baked potato? I got a chill. Hell yes, dude. I got two and a little too big potato. Let's go. This is the round that Wendy's wins.
Starting point is 00:19:31 What sort of fricking? Did you get sour cream on the side? There was sour cream in the bag and I forgot it. Shoot. And I threw the bag of the garbage. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm going to eat the first place. Wendy's chili.
Starting point is 00:19:40 It's made with leftover burger patties, which is good. Which is good. Less food waste. Also, chili is like a pretty healthy option there. Mmm. You know what I love about, this is a whole food. This is potatoes and beans and spiced meat. Yeah, it's a complex carp.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I make myself. That's delicious. Wendy's chili is great. Remember they found a finger or toe in there? The person planted it there. Oh, who was it? Well, someone found, they put a finger in there and then they... Was it from a cadaver?
Starting point is 00:20:13 A corpse? I don't remember it. No, I think they're like their partner... Did their partner get their finger severed in like an industrial accident? And they were like, you know what we could do. Logan, can you look at the story of Wendy's chili finger? And I think they got sued for damages by Wendy's because, like, Of course, your business, they've lost millions.
Starting point is 00:20:31 You story about finger found in Chile? Oh, my God. That is defaming a company. You can't defame without facts. In 2005, a woman named Anna claimed she bit into a severed human finger in both Chile in San Jose turned out be a hoax. She had planted the finger, which actually belonged to her husband's co-worker, to extort a massive financial payout from Wendy's.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Could have gotten a cadaver. What to work with a cadaver. That's what I'm saying. Grand larceny. That's crazy. You want to go do some grave robin? No, but I'm down to do hood ratchet with you. Oh, found a foot in my Hershey's Pie.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Oh, This, fun fact. The toe with a toe ring. Fun fact, listen. This scandal cost Wendy's $21 million in law sales due to massive public fear. And now I'm saying it's not as good. No, we got to, guys, we got to get Wendy's to recoup the $21 million that lost because of the figure. I'm sure they did.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And it starts now with this potato. With a chicken Osiago burger or whatever. the fuck. In terms of like what a fast food restaurant should have, right? Because what do they call? There's something where it's like, it's like the veto item or something where fast food food places will put like salads on the menu to try and prevent. It ends up being like a loss leader, but it's, there's a very specific term about like vetoing. So it's the idea of like if you have four members of a family going like, I'm at McDonald's and then one member of the family goes, I want to eat a salad tonight and there's nothing I can get at McDonald's.
Starting point is 00:21:56 It's to prevent that. You say, like, you know, if someone goes on craving tacos, they have everything you can get, the other things. Do you think that, like, a taco is a more valuable asset or a baked potato? Like, what do you think is a better item for a primarily burger spot to have as an X factor? A burger spot? Tacos. I think the baked potato is like...
Starting point is 00:22:18 I think it's unique. Well, I think the... You can get tacos anywhere. That's what I'm saying. It's recognizable. Like, no one's going to say, oh, hell yeah, a baked potato. You might. I think, like, dad's, though, because I remember wanting to go to Wendy's and I wanted to get, you know, their, like, 99 cent chicken sandwich, their junior baking cheese or whatever. And my dad being like, I'm going to get a baked potato because that is what a baby boomer man in America eats. Maybe. For me, I think tacos are more of a recognizable food, a more accessible food, a more accessible food than a baked potato. I mean, I would prefer the answer to be baked potato, but I don't think it is. I wonder what sells more.
Starting point is 00:22:53 I think the average consumer will reach for a $2 taco versus a $450. I don't know. This is $4.50 for the big potato? Yeah. What the hell out of here? It's not that expensive. It's, well, no, this used to be a dollar. Oh.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Everything used to be cheaper. I know. Well, that's what I'm saying. I mean. I guess it shouldn't be shocking. But it's just a potato. It is. It's just a potato.
Starting point is 00:23:12 It's just a potato. With their old burger chili on it. I know. But hey, you're paying for sustainability or whatever. I get Wendy's in this round. I get Wendy's, too. The citric acid in the taco. really turned me off.
Starting point is 00:23:24 I love it. I did like the tacos though. It was really abrasive. So Wendy's is two to one. You know what Trent? I've never been to, there's a spot in London, I think,
Starting point is 00:23:34 that's going super viral of the giant potatoes and they stuff them with stuff. With tuna and beans. The tuna, chuna, and beans. A tuna and beans. Jacket potatoes. They call it jacket potatoes.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Love that because they're wearing little jackets. But there was also, like, I remember going to Mexico and there were like, Takareas, or not even Takoreas, like taco stands that were doing the like, you could get, Taco, Mulita, Vampiro, whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Or you get, like, a potato. They just split open to potato and just, you know. But is the potato, it's the potato cooked in, like, the red, saucy, good stuff, right? No, no, no, just literally a normal baked potato. And they were just wrapped in foil and they'd just slice it open. Because it's... It's all, like, like, El Super Papa or something. Because at some places here, they give you a little side of, like, cut new potatoes
Starting point is 00:24:13 that are cooked in, like, red, like, visado. It'll give you, like, it's, like, cooked in a guisado. Yeah, yeah, a gisado spots. But, no, no, this is literally, like, as the base of your, you can add your proteins or sauce says you, whatever. That's awesome. But it's just like never good. Like I'm just like, man, I really wish I was eating a taco instead of this.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Maybe it's for like people that just don't. It was a big Instagram trend. Have you seen that one Takero that you can show up with just your own bag of like Doritos? Yes. And you'll just build it on top. It's a shorma guy or a taco guy? Because I think I've seen a shorma guy do that. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:24:44 Yeah. I think I've seen a taco. Ooh, I don't know. Maybe they're both doing it. Yeah. Maybe your feeds are different. It's like right down. You're taco and I'm shorma.
Starting point is 00:24:51 That's so funny. That's so funny. Welcome to our podcast, Taco and Chwoma. I'm your host, Tcha, Taco. I guess I'm Shorma. Yeah, sorry, that came off racist. The guy's, like, a couple miles down the road. Which guy? He's, like, in Van Nuys.
Starting point is 00:25:04 He's the guy I've seen. Oh, I don't know. I thought, I think I passed him one day, and I was like, what can I bring? Do I get a bag of Chex Mix and just be like, hey, brother. Make it the Ocky way. God. Chicken sandwich?
Starting point is 00:25:18 Checks Mix is underrated. What's your figure? Chicken sandwich. If you could be any piece in the Checks Mix Mix box, What would you, I'm sorry, if you could be any piece in a checks mix bag, what piece would you be? Uh, wheat. You'd be a-no. No, corn, corn checks.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Corn checks? Corn checks? A hyperseason. Hyperseason corn checks. You are the hyperseason corned. You know, they're adding, they're adding more hyperseason bits deliberately. I love. Well, because people want it.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Yeah, they've up the salt levels. No, they had, uh, Chex Mix Bold. No, no, no, Czechs Mix Bold all has existed. With the Worcesters sauce on the bottom? Yeah, yes. Like, there's like a red onion and like a bottle of brown liquid. Was it balsamic or? I think it's
Starting point is 00:25:53 Worcestershire, but like, it's just, yeah. But no, they've like, they, I think a couple, like a year ago added a new marketing campaign that was just like,
Starting point is 00:26:04 now 30% more flavor blasted did. And you open the bag and you're like, what? And then you just see some pieces that are like caked in seasoning. No, no, no. I think it's deliberate.
Starting point is 00:26:12 No, that's not what life is about. Life is about eating the checks mix bag and then coming upon the hyper-seasoned corn cheques piece and eating it. That's what life is about. Little Pockets of Joy.
Starting point is 00:26:23 If I have joy all the time, who am I? I don't know who I am if I have joy all the time. This is like the hand crank slot machines versus the digital ones. Are you talking about Kalshi? What? No, I'm not talking about Kalshi. No. But like when casinos went digital slot machines, the casino is deciding if you win or not.
Starting point is 00:26:42 The Checks factory is deciding how much. Oh, I see. You know, I want that random chance of when are the cherry is going to stop? Yeah, yeah, I see what you're saying. I know mathematically it should be the same. Right. But still, I need to know that there's no computer. And you can't...
Starting point is 00:26:56 Determining how many hyperseason checks pieces I get. Some bags need to have zero. Some bags need to have zero. And that's the point of life. And then the next bag has six and you're like, oh, my God. Well, this turned into a podcast about checks mix or life. Give me this damn long chicken. Okay, this long chicken sandwich is a meme.
Starting point is 00:27:13 This is a meme sandwich. It's not even... What are you cutting it for? What are you cutting it for? I eat from the middle out. I hate you. Oh, look at that lettuce, dude. Ew, I can't. I can't. I'm going to get sick and die.
Starting point is 00:27:26 The main flavor on long chicken. Manees. Chicken, log. I don't want to eat. I'm scared. Give a tea. You don't have to eat the lettuce if you don't want to. I don't have to eat it. It's really bad. What? I'm really bad.
Starting point is 00:27:43 It's really bad? It tastes bad? I hate it. It tastes like Subway. Yeah, this, I remember this being better. Ew! Ew! Did they change their chicken bag? I don't like it. It literally tastes like Subway and paprika. You know that's the best pressed and formed chicken patty in the game?
Starting point is 00:28:00 Carl's Jr. Why do you keep talking about Carl's Jr. right now? I love Carl Jr. You're just obsessed with Carl's Jr. It's been there for me since I was a kid. Aw. That's nice. I have no...
Starting point is 00:28:11 Josh, please relax. Josh, take a nap. Josh, you need a nap. Oh. You put the taco in the long chicken? That's good. You're right? Uh-uh.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Are you sure? Why not? I don't want to. Have you a chip of your cola? Yeah, of course. It's Diet Coke. Is that okay? Yeah, I didn't have it. I didn't get any. Okay, I'm going to try the Wendy's classic. Oh, no, I'm sorry. Wendy, yeah, Wendy's classic chicken sandwich. They're both garbage.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Wendy's is not. Wendy's chicken sandwiches, I feel like used to be good. They're both hot garbage. Wendy's tough. Oh, so dry. This is classic, not spicy? It's classic. Why does that exist?
Starting point is 00:28:52 Give me my cola back. Oh my God, it's so hard. It's really bad. You know what they... So this is a whole... This is a whole, like, piece of breast. Yes, it looks like... Compared to Burger King, which is press-informed.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Mm-hmm. But the problem when you're doing whole breast, you can brine the hell out of it and you can inject it the salt, you can do all that. Mm-hmm. But if you still hammer it in the fryer and just let it sit,
Starting point is 00:29:15 let it evaporate, it's just not going to be good. I did not enjoy that one bit. I think that's a draw... Borderline and edible, man. That's a draw for both, unless you're passionate about the Burger King. I think Burger King.
Starting point is 00:29:23 I think Burger King is just funny. I think the sandwich... I like the Burger King. I like the format of it. I like a processed chicken sandwich. I mean, I like a proper fried chicken sandwich if I'm getting like a good one. But it's harder to do at a fast food restaurant than it is to have
Starting point is 00:29:38 like a processed chicken patty, right? I'm sorry. No amount of convincing is going to make a I'm willing to call this a both the draw. It's like you know how people say when you go to like don't get the pasta at a sushi restaurant? No. You're going to a burger place don't get the chicken? I don't know if that's It's true.
Starting point is 00:29:54 I feel like there's places that have good chicken sandwiches that have burgers. Bet you can't name three. I bet I can't either. I think Carl's Jr. I like Carl's Jr.'s. This guy. This is Carl's Jr. paying you? No.
Starting point is 00:30:12 They're like one of the few faster restaurants that have not. Shake Shack? I don't like their chicken sandwich. It's a breast. It gets too dry if it's not. I've had good chicken sandwiches there, and then I've had some that are just so dry. But I can't. Popeyes is the best chicken sandwich.
Starting point is 00:30:26 It's still really good. I know it's a chicken place. They're putting a lot of TLC. KFC does good work. Jollybee does good work on it. Uh-huh. But those are all chicken places. You're right.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Burger King reformed the chicken sandwich. Like, they did the premium one to try to compete with Popeyes. Yes, yes. I remember that. Wasn't that great. McDonald's tried to reformulate it. It wasn't great. I remember.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Yeah. Yeah, burger places and chicken sandwiches, man. They don't. This is the last thing we're going to eat. These are just classic burgs. You got a Dave single and a whopper. Look at that. Look at that bad boy.
Starting point is 00:30:55 It's wide. She's so wide. Wide load coming through, chew, chew. It's so good. I'm so happy. The wopper? I'm okay. Get deep.
Starting point is 00:31:14 I've canonically not like the whopper. I can't get deep. I don't want to get deep. I'm tired of getting deep. It's good in it. I tell you why I like it. It's that. The tomato insides, the pickle juice, the onions, the ketchup and the mayonnaise, all just create a sort of sloth.
Starting point is 00:31:49 It's kind of goo, a crunchy goo on top. It kind of reminds me of like a non-American condiment, you know? Like, I feel like I'd go to Brazil and they'd be like, you have another like, souseau rochata? And I'm like, what? And it's just like, yeah, we mix like mayonnaise, ketchup, crunchy things, and that's it. You eat it with fish. I'm like, okay. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:32:09 Like, it feels like something from another land, a happier land. Wow. Josh, you must feel really passionately about this whopper. That is, you, man. I haven't laughed like this on the pot in a long time. Wow, you devour that shit. Redesigned every facet of the whopper. It's so good now.
Starting point is 00:32:29 It is really good. I used to be a whopper. I used to be a whopper hater, but now I'm a whopper. What's it called when you don't hate or love something? You just kind of are in the middle? You're just sort of like a Wopper neutralist. I'm a Wopper neutralist now instead of a hater. We used to, woppers were 99 cents.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Uh-huh. I don't know if it was every day, if there was a special day when I was a kid. My mom used to go through the drive-thru. And I remember I tried to ask to get no onions on my wopper once I was a kid, and she yelled at me because she was mentally ill. And so I was scared of that. So I would just get it, but I really didn't want the onions. So what I'd do is take the onions out and check this out. I'd be sitting in the backseat, and there was like a pulled out armrests.
Starting point is 00:33:12 and I would shove the onions and the crack of this armrest. We're talking months and months of onions shoved into the crack in this car until it just started reeking, probably 12, 13 whoppers worth of onions. And then one day my mom found it.
Starting point is 00:33:32 And she was like, what that f? And I was just like, gigs up, man. Gotta come clean about the onions. Nowhere to run. And my kid did that? I would probably be really mad too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Boy, she was mad. Oh, man. She was the kind of bad that you can only get when you got a chemical misfiring in your brain too, you know? Oh, my gosh. Not bad. It's not bad. I think it actually is really good. But it's not that great.
Starting point is 00:34:01 The Whopper does win this one. The flavor of the beef, man. It really does make a difference. The flame grilled, flavor that beef. It's a very similar. Structure. What? The burger, right?
Starting point is 00:34:15 It's like a same, they're using the same type of lettuce. They're using the same onion, same pickles, same tomatoes. There's no burger sauce on it, right? It's mayonnaise and ketchup. It's the same exact format. Yes. Agreed. It's not even like, oh, one uses shredded lettuce one.
Starting point is 00:34:28 It's the same. But this bun is worse. Yes, the burger's worse. And then burgers worse. Also, the produce is worse, too. From the few bites I got. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:38 So does burger? Man. Does Burger King win? It's a top. Two, two. No. They tied. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:45 We said frosty and big potato win. Oh. Yeah. I don't know their burger's destroyed. And technically it's a draw. Yeah. I don't know. If we had to give one a winner, I'd say the Burger King chicken sandwich is better than the other one.
Starting point is 00:35:01 I think it shows that the mains at Burger King are doing a good job. Pretty impressive. Way to go Burger King. Impressive showing by Burger King. Shout out, Florida. Stayed to Florida. Yeah. They did it.
Starting point is 00:35:17 They sure did. Florida speed, it's different than Cali speed. The throw up. All right, Nicole. Hey. We're here you and I have to say, and we've had a lot of trans fats. Now it's time to find out what other wack 80s right like out there in the universe. Time for the segment we call.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Opinions are like casseroles. I got the meat sweats. I got the meat sweats. You know, feel sticky. Yeah? Feel it? You think it'll be sticky for me, too? No, it's not that sticky for me.
Starting point is 00:35:57 It feels like a frog. All right. Can I touch the other side of your... Yeah, that's not sticky. Let me touch the... It's a little damp. It's damp. A little damp.
Starting point is 00:36:06 It's damp in my elbow pit. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Guys, we all got to start a group text and tell each other if we have diarrhea or not. More than usual? More than usual. We're going from every 90 minutes to every 60 now.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Oh, that is interesting. Hi there, Josh, Nicole. My name's Ryan. I'm from Fort McMurray, which is about five hours north of nowhere up in Canada. And I just wanted to get to your guys' opinions on why Canadian foods seem obsessed with American states. Like, we created the California roll. Oh, funny. We created the Hawaiian pizza.
Starting point is 00:36:47 There's chains called Montana's. Although it's not a state, it's distinct enough. We have a Boston pizza. which is just about everywhere in Canada. Awesome, pizza. Yeah, I just wanted to see what your thoughts on that were. And you guys should come up north some time and try some of our local delicacies,
Starting point is 00:37:04 like my favorite, the Canadian chain of A&W. I think we can put it up against any of your fast food chains. Is A&W Canadian? We have A&Ws here. I hope you guys have a wonderful day. Thank you. Thank you. There was A&W.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Is A&W Canadian? I don't know. No, A&W is American. Founded in Lod. Sounded in Lodi? That's what I said? The first A&W, what the hell was in Sacramento in 1923? A&W, I know for their root beer, obviously.
Starting point is 00:37:34 And cream soda. But yeah, A&W Canada has gone... What the hell? A&W Canada is completely separate... Yeah, it was initially a subsidiary of A&W America, but they went separate... Yeah, in 1972. That's so bizarre. I've never, I'm curious how different they are. The normal A&W, they have cheese curds, I believe.
Starting point is 00:38:01 No way. I've never been to an A&W. And they have, like, root beer on a special tap, like a keg. I think they do kegs of root beer. Yum. Because I love a root beer. I love cream soda, and soda is my brother. That's like our thing. Why Canadian, I never put that together, that Canadian foods would have been obsessed with U.S. States? It's because they like us and they want to be like us.
Starting point is 00:38:22 Well, I reckon that might be it, right? It's like there's so much more culture being produced out of America than Canada in terms of, like, media. Yeah, I'd say media. Things that we, this was a crazy thing that put a lot of stuff in perspective. It's a bit of a dirty story. Bear with me. A lot of people say that they find British accents or French accents or Italian accents attractive. And I remember asking my old Italian roommates what accent they found the most attractive.
Starting point is 00:38:51 And they said American. No. And I was like, that's actually shocking to me. I was like, to me, it's, that's never seen as being very elegant or whatever. And he goes, well, if you imagine when I was 14 on my family computer illegally downloading things, what was the accent being spoken by those particular actresses in those movies that I would have been elicently downloading away from my parents' eyes? And I said, oh, that's crazy. Oh, are you talking about like...
Starting point is 00:39:19 Pornography. Oh, oh, oh. To them, the American accent is attractive because of pornography, which is crazy. But the point is there is so much culture being produced uniquely out of America in so many ways that I think it would influence, especially our neighbors to the north, especially the sunnier states like California and Hawaii, you know, to name stuff after it. But that's interesting. I don't know. I don't think we've done anything like that to Canada, right? It hasn't gone the other way.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Like Montreal. Montreal steak seasoning? We got that. We love that. Calgary? Quebec. Winnipeg? Nova Scotia.
Starting point is 00:40:06 Nova locks. Nova locks. Prince Edward Island Muscles. But those are just factually. They're from their apartments to there. We're not creating something out of there. Newfoundland. Halifax Donair.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Yeah, but that's another location. That's the thing. No, I know. Maybe they're like Americans. It's probably, probably America has been a cultural juggernaut. And also, warmer climates, you can have more diverse foods. Recognizable, easily recognizable. I wonder if, like, how much. I know Canada obviously is a quite diverse place and a big, big, you know, melting pot as well.
Starting point is 00:40:43 But I wonder, like, the history. in terms of like cultural diffusion, you know what I mean? Because we had so many different like migrations, including like how Italian food spread across America. Sure. G.I. is coming back from, you know, World War II and having mobility. You know, the post-reconstruction era of, you know, black people moving from the south up to places like Chicago. Like, you know, I wonder how all that influenced Canadian food. I don't know what's not about it.
Starting point is 00:41:10 I don't know if it did. I don't know what's not about it. Huh. That's interesting, though. Beaver tales. Hello, my name is Alex, and I'm calling to ask the same question, I asked my fiance to get a third or fourth opinion. The answer is yes, I'll marry you. The question is, what is the juiciest vegetable?
Starting point is 00:41:31 She said tomato. Yes. I think is obviously correct. Yeah, definitely. If you don't disqualify it on fruit-based ground. But if you do, then I said onion. And she wasn't buying that. I got the answer.
Starting point is 00:41:50 She mentioned like celery. That was my answer. Yeah, yeah. While celery meat tastes not as much as onion, I think onion, if you were to like bite into a raw onion or when you cut an onion, has a little bit more juice than just plain celery. Anyone that's ever grated an onion. But I'm curious to know what y'all think. My answer is celery.
Starting point is 00:42:11 That's the question. Oh, he's still going. Sorry, baby. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry, sorry.
Starting point is 00:42:15 I love you. I love you, but normally when you ask a question you don't need to say, that's the question, especially several seconds. It's okay. It's not a big deal. It's not a big deal. It's their first time calling maybe. It's not a problem. Are you still there on the line? No, no, no, no, no. Don't be mean. Celery? There's probably a way to science this, right? I'd be very curious, like what your yield of juice would be running an onion through a juicer, running celery through a juicer, running cucumber. I guess you would disqualify as a fruit depending on, depending on what grounds. There's no. good definition of what a fruit or vegetable. It was no good definition of what a vegetable is, certainly. Maybe we don't use things like, oh, well, celery has seeds, celery seed.
Starting point is 00:42:57 Everything has seeds. Everything grows from seed. I know, but I'm just saying like, the seeds are not, the seeds are contained within the body. Yes. So celery, the seeds are not contained within the celery stalk. So I think that classifies for this experiment, a vegetable. 100%. But I would also say that like as cucumbers, the, the, cucumbers are vegetable. No, it has seeds in it. We've talked, God, we've talked about this, but like, uh... No, we haven't.
Starting point is 00:43:22 If we'd have, it's been years. The term, fruit is a botanical term. That means, like, the actual fruiting body of the plant, which is the thing that contains the seeds. Yes. What is the botanical definition of a vegetable? None. None doesn't exist.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And so there's botanical definitions of what a flower is. So I believe broccoli is the actual flowering part of that. Why, that's why I say broccoli florets. Right? I don't know if that's true. There's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, There's tubers, you know, tubers are the roots. Sweet potato.
Starting point is 00:43:50 So you can think about celery, right? You can eat the celery leaves. You can eat the celery stalk. Is it a celery roots? The root? You've had celery root. Of course, but is it a tuber? Well, that's the tuber.
Starting point is 00:44:01 So potatoes have almost, I don't know about this could be a big claim. All the, like, plants have all the different parts of plants. It just depends which ones we've bred to eat which parts. Got it. So broccoli, we've, like, bred to eat the flowers. Right. I think. No, but there's such thing as broccoli flowers.
Starting point is 00:44:18 Flowering broccoli. Is broccoli a flower? Yes, broccoli is a flower. The part of the broccoli we eat consists of the plant's immature, unopened flower buds, so they can flower. Got it. They can flower. But they are the flowering part of it. But they're just an, it's a bud.
Starting point is 00:44:35 I wonder what plant we eat the most parts of. Because like celery, for instance, right? Like you can have a celery leaf salad or you can eat celery seed. Yeah. Juicy. this vegetable. It's got to be celery, boss. I don't know. How's a lot of water in it? Onions got a lot of water locked up in those cell walls too, man. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Are we talking about by weight? Like one pound of celery run through a juicer, one pound onion run through a juicer. Which one yields more juice? Mine says celery. Your side says onion, so I guess you've got to test it. I'd say onion, but I will say a vegetable that's too juicy for my liking. Zucchini. I love zucchini. I love it, but I try and cook it and mix it in with things. No matter what I do, it's always going to leach too much water. It's going to mess it up.
Starting point is 00:45:20 I know. Like you do an eggplant. I've done that too, but eggplants don't leach nearly as much water to zucchini. In zucchini, I swear to God, keeps bleeding water into anything that I played in. But it's not bad. I know. I love zucchini. I love it too.
Starting point is 00:45:32 So does Eve. Eve loves zucchini, too. She's a big zucchini eater. We got one more? One more. One more for the boatman. Hi, Josh and Nicole. Long-time listener.
Starting point is 00:45:42 This is Karino from Chicago. Hey. My opinion is that most meals, if not all of them, should be followed up with a popsicle. I love my own pasta. Yeah, I did. Multiple times a day. I'm being a mingle popsicle right now. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:55 And I eat a lot of spicy food, and I just think a nice fruit popsicle is a good way to tie off a meal. I don't know. I just love fruit, too, though. So maybe this is just, yeah, I love fruit. Wishing you guys the best, and I hope I make it this time. What have I told you? We don't have time for this. We'll see you next.
Starting point is 00:46:15 No. That wouldn't be nice. That would be terrible. You want me to go first? Yeah. I would not do a popsicle because I am not a fruit freak. Some people are like fruit freak. My mom loves fruit.
Starting point is 00:46:28 She eats fruit like five times a day. Fruit, fruit, fruit, fruit. Same do I'm a fruit freak. I'm not. I don't love fruit like that. I walked in today, saw a ripe nectarine in our company fruit bowl. Hell yeah. And just started cutting it with a butter knife and I ate it.
Starting point is 00:46:40 Parasite, here we come. That's good. You didn't wash it? No. It's stupid. It's okay. I'm washing. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:46:47 In general. No. I would just do a nice little iced tea or a hot tea or maybe just tea. I see your pops cool and I raise you three bites of ice cream straight from the pint. Because that's what I do. Give a couple of pints of ice cream. Jenny's just did a Guinness collab. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:47:08 On time. Got McConnell's in there at all times. I got a wild card. I got one called ice cream for bears. That's made with raw honey. Yep, yep, yep. And it's a super clean label. John don't care about for the health benefits.
Starting point is 00:47:20 I just think it makes a better ice cream. And it is delightful. I love the taste of honey. And I love ice cream. And that's been very fun. But also, recently got outshine popsicles. Oh, those are so good. And I've been eaten those after every meal because likewise, I get it.
Starting point is 00:47:37 You eat a spicy food. You need a possicle. Possible. Or three bites of ice cream. out of the pint. And sometimes I think that means I'm eating food that's too spicy if I physically need another food to calm it down. But then other times I think this is the way that everyone should be living. So I'm with you on that. If I can make a suggestion, there's, what's that? It's like elados de Mexico, the brand, the Mexican paletta brand. I don't know. Yeah, there's
Starting point is 00:48:07 just Mexican paletta brand, dude. They got coconut one. They got a horchata flavored one. They got a walnut-flavored one. Oh, Nues. What? Nuit. Nuit? N'weth? That's how you say nuts, right? Ngueth?
Starting point is 00:48:17 I don't know. I think that's how you say nuts. Maybe. Let me tell you, whenever I go to the Korean spa, I spend hours there, hours, just hours. And I always polish off a coconut paleta with my hair wrapped up in a towel, my skin's still damp from the 14 different sonnas I plunged into. Let me tell you, there's nothing better.
