Right now, live coverage from your local news leader, preparing you for tomorrow starting tonight and your first alert forecast.
Here's what's happening where you live. This is ABC 11 eyewitness news.
And right now at 11, it's been about 24 hours since our Carolina Hurricanes won their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
And the celebrations are really ramping up right here in the triangle right now.
Steve, in just the past hour, the Stanley Cup, making its first public appearance in the triangle.
At Teeth, it's a bar in Raleigh on Glenwood.
Excited Cain's fans lining up for hours to get a glimpse of the players and the Cup.
We'll take you there live in just a moment.
But look at that, hanging out with the Cadyax.
Captain Jordan Saul, Seth Jarvis, Sebastian Ajo there hanging out with the Cup and the big crowd in Glenwood South.
And the Cains of the Cup touching down at the RDEU airport about 6.30 this evening.
We had Chopper 11 capturing all the action.
And Captain Jordan Stahl, first guy off the plane hoisting that cup high
as he stepped off the team's Delta Airlines charter flight touching down from Las Vegas.
Hi, everyone.
Thanks for joining us here for the news at 11.
I'm Steve Daniels.
And I'm Lauren Johnson. Steve, we've heard this.
This cup is not just for this team.
The players promising to share it with the fans who were with them all the way.
Jemice joins us live from outside Teets and Raleigh Jemis.
You can't even get inside the club because it's so packed.
But we have cameras inside.
Did you get a sneak peek at the hardware?
Absolutely, Lauren.
We've seen those players come out here and raise that Stanley Cup and the fans have been cheering, going crazy.
It's really a block party out here.
Take a look at these few hundred fans who are crowding teets right now.
There was a line wrapped around the corner just to get a peek.
And we've seen player after player come out and raised that Stanley Cup up.
And the fans here can't get enough of it.
As I was walking up here tonight, I heard a girl.
say, I can't believe it. I was feet away from the Stanley Cup. So a lot of folks excited to see
that coveted Stanley Cup, but also here to celebrate this fantastic team, the Stanley Cup champions.
Now, before that Stanley Cup made his way to Teets Bar tonight, it was there at RDU for all the fans
who were hoping to celebrate and be in this amazing moment.
Canes flying high tonight.
Watching the Delta plane come in for a landing, bringing the champs back home after last night's Stanley Cup win.
Here, the hurricanes, the whole city's happy, so it's cool.
The 757 Delta charter flight welcome with a water canning salute by firefighters.
One of the first off the plane was Kane's captain Jordan Stahl, holding in his hands the coveted Stanley Cup.
I just want to see the Stanley Cup with my own eyes.
And Jordan lifted.
Fans line the street outside the general aviation terminal at RDU
to take part of the history-making moment, 20 years in the making.
I just want to be here for the guys, you know, everything they've done for us.
So it's just kind of our support.
They want it in Vegas, so we have to welcome them back to Raleigh, big.
Show them how we do it here.
From toddlers and teens to parents and grandparents,
the moment bringing Kaniacs from all generations,
together for one big celebration.
Being able to bring it home this year
means a lot to us.
You know, we've stood by the team.
We're always there every game.
The boys deserve it.
They went out there.
They finished it in six, first one in 20 years.
The least we can do is come out here in support.
The players savor the moment and quickly boarded buses
headed home to settle into the moment.
From the tops of the buses,
twirling towels and shirts,
the canes and the cany acts came together for a
came together for a moment they won't soon forget.
It's an experience I'm going to remember for the rest of my life and I'm going to tell my kids about.
All right, and this party continues.
The celebration is in full swing here in Raleigh for our Stanley Cup champions.
And the celebration will continue this weekend with the parade with our champions going through the streets of downtown Raleigh.
Lauren and Steve, Jemis has been there through it all too.
Every step of the way.
I know.
So much fun.
All right.
James thanks great view outside there in Glenwood South we want to take you inside
Teets Bar there this is our other crew inside where you can see the players are there
and and I think Lauren what's so amazing about this moment is the guys know how much
Caniaks how much their fans are a part of this Stanley Cup victory through the
playoff run through the Stanley Cup final how much support they got from Caniacs and
it's so cool that they're here in Glenwood South hanging out they could have gone
home. They could have gone and celebrated by themselves, but they are celebrating with their fans
there in Glitland South. And you know what's even more special, Steve? The power of social media.
Jordan Martinuk took to X tonight and said, meet me at Teeths tonight with the Stanley Cup. And he did
just that now standing shoulder to shoulder with his teammates and his friends and also with a bunch
of Keynes fans that are just proud to be a part of this moment in our city's history.
Yeah, Jordan Martinuk has been part of the team since 2018, such a key part of this entire
organization. And you know, I'm struck by this as I'm watching this, Lauren, something that was
said last night on the ice in Vegas after they won the Stanley Cup. And that is that this team,
these are guys who really like each other. They work really hard on the ice. They work really
hard when they're training. But they have a really great bond. And they talked about that last
night. They talked about what that bond meant through the playoffs and meant for them to get to this
point to win the Stanley Cup. It is very special. And to your point, Steve, they could have taken this
moment in together. They could have had private parties.
But to bring that trophy out for the city to see, to enjoy, and to share in this moment with them really speaks to who they are as athletes, you know, knowing they're not too far away to be reached.
And they appreciate the fans that come out and help them get it across the finish line every game.
So wild to see Captain Jordan Stahl there and Seth Jarvis just hanging out, having a beer with their Keynes fans.
The live feed coming in right there from Teets Bar in Glenwood South.
big crowd there and we wanted to show it to you live as it's happening.
All right, take warning.
The Canes party is just getting started.
It's going to be a fun weekend coming up here in the triangle.
Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell declaring Saturday as Carolina Hurricanes Day.
The Canes Victory Parade will march through downtown Raleigh on Saturday morning.
It kicks off at 11 a.m.
We're still waiting to learn the exact route the parade will follow.
As soon as we find out, of course, we'll pass it along to you.
All right, time for a check of the forecast as we take a live look over the Raleigh and Durham skylines.
It was a really beautiful day to get outside.
Pretty nice evening across the triangle as well.
Yeah, we've got a break from the heat and the humidity, but enjoy it while it lasts.
Meteorologist, Don Schwinnaker is here with the first alert to more dangerous heat later this week.
But tonight, down, there's a hurricane on Glenwood.
Right.
And otherwise, the weather relatively quiet around here.
We're not seeing any showers out there tonight.
First alert, Doppler is dry.
Looking live out at RDU.
Temperature right now, 73, mainly clear, winds are calm.
Some cooler temperatures coming in just 63 in Lewisburg, 69 up in Oxford.
67 Roxburgh, 71, Loneington, 77 Fayetteville, 72 in Rocky Mount.
Everybody 10, even 14 degrees cooler tonight than it was last night at this time.
So let's take a look at your fast forward forecast.
Today we went to 90.
It was sunny across the region.
As we go through the day into tomorrow, we'll see more clouds working through,
and that will hold your temperatures down a little cooler tomorrow with highs in the mid-80s.
But don't get used to it.
We're getting up near 100 as we head toward Thursday.
We'll first alert you to that day and to a chance of rain in your seven-day forecast coming up.
Stephen Lauren.
All right, Don, now's a good time to download that free ABC11 app.
Use it to track changing weather conditions on the go.
Just search for ABC 11 in your phone's app store.
New here at 11, we have a really tragic story from Rocky Mount.
Police telling us a two-year-old is dead after getting attacked by two family dogs.
It happened about 1.30 this afternoon at home on Star Street.
First responders did everything they could to try to save the child, but they were unsuccessful.
Rocky Mount Police telling us that two dogs are just.
described as pit bull mixes. They were both surrendered to the Rocky Mount Animal Services Unit.
Meanwhile, the Chatham County Sheriff's Office says a man drowned at Jordan Lake today after he tried to retrieve a drifting boat.
It happened about 1130 this morning. The victim has been identified as 44-year-old DeGui Yuan of Chapel Hill.
Investigators say that Yuan was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
And as we enter summer season, officials are stressing the importance of using a life jacket when you're out on the water.
Chopper 11 flying over a massive townhouse fire in Raleigh.
The fire broke out this afternoon in the Briar Creek community.
It took crews about an hour to get the flames under control, but not before a ton of damage was left behind.
Firefighters were able to rescue a cat from one of those units.
Thankfully, nobody was hurt so far.
No word on what sparked that fire.
Eyewitness News is learning more about the Durham woman being held without bond after investigators say she maliciously set fire to the University Ridge apartments on University Drive.
31-year-old Mahogany Massey appeared before a Durham County judge.
facing several charges, including first-degree arson.
And court documents shows several people were injured on Sunday, including three Durham firefighters
and also Massey's own mother and brother.
Prosecutors pushed for no bond, saying investigators found what they describe as a people-to-kill
list in her belongings.
But the defense argued Massey needs mental health treatment instead of jail time.
Massey's father spoke only with eyewitness news.
It says while she's been battling schizophrenia for years, she was off of her medication.
He believes she doesn't fully understand what happened because she watched her own mother.
get carried out on a stretcher.
Any normal person would say, well, that's my mom.
She's getting in an ambulance.
Let me run over there and see what's wrong with her.
She sat there on the wall, looked at her, smoke a cigarette, and drank the bill.
And she didn't run.
She didn't move.
She just watched what was going on like everybody else did.
Massey's brother remains in the hospital.
A total of 18 people are displaced because of that fire.
New at 11, the Durham City Council approving a $767 million budget for next fiscal year.
Of course, with any spending plan, there's a mix of the state.
of good and bad. The budget holds property tax rates pretty steady. Despite a decline in property
tax revenue, water and sewer rates are going up. The average customer can expect to pay about
12% more. There's also nearly $4 million to help combat homelessness. Go Durham service remains
fair free for another year. And good news for city employees, they will be getting a 2% raise.
In Johnson County, the Board of Commissioners also voting to approve a budget tonight. The $435 million
spending plan includes one cent cut in the property tax rate. It also includes full full
funding for the county's public school system. County employees will see a 3% raise with an
additional 2% based on performance like in Durham. The budget calls for an increase in water and sewer
rates. The average customer can expect to pay about 10% more. Still to come here on eyewitness news
tonight, a B-52 bomber crashes at an Air Force base in Southern California. The latest is that
investigation gets underway tonight. And a California-based startup is breaking ground in Greensboro.
How many thousands of jobs this massive investment could lead? Jet Zero is the name of
of the company, what they're doing here in North Carolina when we come back.
And the Cains generating a big boost for local businesses.
How the team Stanley Cup win helped our local economy.
And Don, checking out the temps outside.
Pretty cool to see it in the 70s right now.
I know.
We're going to wake up to one of the cooler mornings of the week tomorrow.
But after that, a big warm up to first alert you about.
We're talking near 100 on Thursday.
We'll tell you about that.
And when the rain arrives for your weekend and your complete forecast coming out.
All right, from watch parties to patch bars to people waiting in long,
lines to buy merchandise. North Carolina putting on a real show of support for our Carolina
hurricanes. Fans spending a whole lot of money and time throwing their support behind the team
and their Stanley Cup run. That's right. And the fandom meant big business for some of our
small businesses who could use that boost. In fact, one part of downtown Raleigh really cashed in
on the red and black and made a lot of green. Tom George live in Smoky Hollow tonight. Tom,
you've been there for watch parties. Actually, you're on Glenwood now, but you've been in Smokey
Hollow for the watch parties. He's seen what goes behind it introduced to the man who started it.
And he's having a good night tonight.
Yeah, absolutely.
The party out here still going on at Teets on Glenwood.
But, hey, the crew has been partying in Vegas until 4 a.m.
Now back in Raleigh.
And they have been here.
We're just feet away from the Stanley Cup.
All the players, the fans, their friends getting a chance to go hoist up the Stanley Cup,
the party still going on.
Take a look.
Everybody's celebrating right now.
and Glenwood has just been one of the spots that has been celebrating.
We have seen watch parties throughout the triangle, including in Smokey Hollow.
And they say all this Cain's excitement is huge for business.
As the Cains kept winning and winning, fans continued to pack watch parties around the triangle.
They put a spotlight on Smokey Hollow in Glenwood's south,
as thousands gathered to watch on a giant screen surrounded by restaurants keeping the food ready to go
and the drinks flowing.
And for local businesses, it was a big boost, now getting a front row seat to the Canes Stanley Cup win.
Today, the goals still left over from the party, but restaurants like Madre have hopes that will lead to more people coming in.
It was big. It's made a big difference. It was a lot more foot traffic. There's a lot of new guests that we had in the restaurant that have never been to Madre.
We've been here for three years, so it was really surprising to hear and see what hockey bought to the restaurant.
The same goes for Midwood Smokehouse, who says they saw.
saw 20% push in diners since the watch parties began.
It's been great, you know, really have the community involved here and, you know, just
getting everyone to know that we are here and Smokey holidays, a presence that we can do,
these sort of events is really just a great opportunity.
Sorry, I had to bring it in.
Okay.
I don't see like you can't come from outside.
All right, and they're bringing the cup back in again.
Let's go follow for a couple seconds here.
I want to show you the setup in here.
This is where everybody has been celebrating.
They just got back from Vegas.
They have all been taking turns, hoisted in the cup, drinking out of the cup, celebrating, showing off the cup.
So here we go.
Let's follow it inside.
All the players taking their turn right here.
Boom, there we go.
The cup, Stanley's Cup, the 2026 champions, people getting a chance to admire it.
Not every day you get to stand, just feet away, snap some pictures, enjoy it.
So a reason to celebrate here in downtown Raleigh on Glenwood.
And we know the celebration only getting started.
This is nothing until what we're going to see on Saturday.
So we'll be the last time we're going to get this close to the cup.
But, hey, reason to celebrate once every 20 years.
Tom, I hope you get a selfie.
Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
And it'll be hanging around here for a year, right?
We don't have to give this thing up for another year.
If Keynes win it next year, it'll be sticking around longer than that.
Put a GPS device on there.
device on that thing so you can follow it around.
Tom, thank you.
And stay with eyewitness news for continuing coverage of the Stanley Cup champions.
Carolina Hurricanes.
Look for our coverage on air online on the ABC 11 app, Disney Plus or wherever you stream.
All right, new here at 11, this is being described as the largest private jobs project ever here in North Carolina.
Jet Zero holding a ceremonial groundbreaking today at the Greensboro Piedmont Triad International Airport
where the company has promised to create thousands of jobs.
This California-based startup, also committing to investing $4.7 billion by the end of 2037.
North Carolina is providing the company more than $1 billion in tax breaks if the company maintains its hiring and investment goals.
Jet Zero is building a new headquarters in a factory where it will manufacture a unique passenger jet.
The company hopes will compete with the likes of Boeing and Airbus.
The first prototype is expected to take flight in 2027.
And Delta Airlines and United Airlines are partners there.
So they may be the first airlines with that new Jet Zero.
plane up in the sky. Tragedy in Southern California, eight Americans are dead after a B-52 bomber
crashed on a routine test flight today. Chopper video showing the burn mark there left behind by the
force of that impact. It happened this morning at Edwards Air Force Base about 100 miles north of Los
Angeles. And it comes just two days after a Marine fighter pilot injected safely moments before
his jet crashed into a hillside in Washington State. ABC's Mark Cota Robles says more.
Eight Americans have died after a massive B-52 bomber,
crashed at Edwards Air Force Base in California today.
This was a mixed crew of military, government civilians, and government contractors supporting this test mission.
Video posted online showing the aftermath thick black smoke seemed towering over the field.
The plane, one of the largest in the U.S. Air Force fleet going down shortly after takeoff, military first responders racing to the scene.
We have multiple reports. I do believe it's going to be on Edwards.
The aircraft erupting into a ball of fire seen miles away.
This time lap shows the thick smoke moments after the crash.
A scarred runway and smoldering debris is all that remains.
This crash is deemed to be unsurvivable.
And right now, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those that lost their loved ones.
The Southern California base is a hub for some of the military's most high-tech flight testing.
The aircraft, famous for its long range and strength, was given.
designed in the 1940s and introduced in the 1950s to carry nuclear weapons during the Cold War,
but most recently used in bombing raids over Iran. Officials say these kinds of flights occur daily.
They have halted operations while they investigate. Mark Cudor Oblis, ABC News, Los Angeles.
And here in our areas, the drought gets worse across central North Carolina. The city of Durham
is now implementing stage two water restrictions. This is some video from Chopper 11th day of Lake Mickey in
Durham. The city's main water source is looking very dry. Many of the boat and fishing
docks are now landlocked. Starting today in Durham, outdoor spray irrigation is
prohibited, but hand watering is still allowed. No car washing is allowed except at
commercial car washes. Cleaning driveways, sidewalks or building
exteriors is also prohibited. And you also cannot refill fountains, ponds or
pools unless you're using water recycling systems and restaurants can only serve you a
glass of water if you ask for it. Don's joined us now and we do have a chance for
some pretty good rain later this week. So Don, is that radar trash? Is that what you would call that?
Yeah, the official term is anomalous propagation. Okay. So no radar trash is exactly what we're seeing
out there tonight on a clear night. Sometimes that radar will light up with just other things.
We're not seeing any rainfall out there. It's nice and dry live look as we look into
Mutual Tower, Sky Camp, downtown Durham 73 right now, mainly clear and winds are calm. We check on what's
happening as far as Manny Oda Murphy tonight, 71 at the coast.
73 Raleigh, but look at the mountains. Just 54 out in Boone tonight as the cool air settles in.
We'll settle into the 60s tonight. Normal for this time of year is 66, 64, Raleigh, 63, Durham, 59, Henderson,
65 Goldsboro and 67 in Clinton. We're clear around here now, but the system will push up from the north and south and east,
and it will bring the rain to us, or excuse me, the clouds to us, and eventually the rain will come out of the Gulf and work its way in here on Friday.

It will be cooler.
That's the coolest day of the next seven.

Feels like temperatures triple digits.
It is another first alert day.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a heat advisory.
Friday, scatter showers and storms, 91.
On your Saturday, 90 degrees, partly cloudy.
Sunday is Father's Day.
It's the first day of summer.
It's my mom's birthday.
A lot going on on Sunday.
And temperatures will be in the low 90s, mid-90s back in on Monday.
Best chance for rain we've seen in a while on Juneteenth.
So we'll keep an eye on that and watch out for that dangerous heat back in on Thursday.
We'll be right back.
We're back now with an important baby formula recall to warn.
you about narrow organics is voluntarily recalling all lots of narrow organics powdered infant formula
currently on the market. The company says they're doing it out of an abundance of caution
because of the potential risk for botulism. The formula was distributed nationally across

last night, our guys winning the Stanley Cup. And as we've been showing you, the party is underway
in Raleigh right now at Glenwood South at Teets, where the guys are there with the Stanley Cup.
