Right now, live coverage from your local news leader, preparing you for tomorrow starting tonight and your first alert forecast. Here's what's happening where you live. This is ABC 11 eyewitness news. Two breaking stories here at 11, a deadly shooting at a gas station. Our breaking news crew on the scene at the Circle K, right off I-95 and Cedar Creek Road in Fayetteville. The crime scene extends to the Pizza Hut next door. The details just coming in, coming right up. But we begin with breaking news in Wake County, fights breaking out at the Friday night high school football game between Millbrook High and Rollsville High. Hi, everyone, thanks for joining us here for eyewitness News at 11. I'm Steve Daniels. Lauren is off tonight. Law enforcement cleared that sold-out stadium at Millbrook High in North Raleigh when fans started fighting there in the stands, prompting to pause in the game. And then our breaking news crew saw more fights right there in the parking lot.

At one point, young people even squaring up with police. The game, which was heading into overtime, was eventually suspect. within the past 30 minutes so police can now begin the process of clearing the campus. Take a listen. Kevin Reddick and you see he can relapse the game has now officially been suspended prior to overtime 10-10 tie and that's how the game will at least hold for now. Jemise Price live on the scene there at Millbrook High talking to eyewitnesses and learning how it all unfolded tonight. unfolded tonight. Jamice.

Now Steve, there are a lot of upset parents and fans who had to watch the game right here through a fence because they cleared out this stadium when the fights continued one after another here. I talked with those parents who said that those fights started to happen before the game and continues throughout the game. I want to take you to what we're seeing out here still at this hour. There's still a number of law enforcement agencies out here. the way County Sheriff's Office, as well as Raleigh Police. We saw Raleigh Police really trying to contain this crowd and break up those fights. I want to take you to some video when we got here and we witnessed some of those fights to break out tonight. When we saw those fights, multiple fights, and even some of those students or fans really going toe to toe with police officers.

Now family and friends and fans all out here really asking those tough questions tonight. Where are the parents to some of those kids who were a bit rowdy tonight? They wanted to watch the game. This is a big rivalry game, a big matchup where these two teams go toe to toe every year. So this is something they look forward to. But unfortunately, those parents and fans had to watch through a gate. Take a listen. Another fight.

Just standing behind me, like broke out in seconds. And I don't know what they're fighting about or how it happens so quick. But it's like it happens so quick that you're not even able to like move or run or anything because they're like swarming you immediately. So it's like it's scary, but it's like I want to stay out here to swarm my son. I don't want to leave them. And like I even heard a cheerleader tell her dad, like she was scared. She like literally held onto his hands like, dad, please don't leave me. So it's like I don't know what can you do.

It's like you're stuck between like wanting to support your kids and then just wanting to be at home away from the chaos. And Steve, she told me that they clear the stadium around the third quarter, something else I want to point out, when we tried to talk to that parent, she was rushed by a number of kids really slamming her into the fence. So the crowd a bit rowdy out here tonight. We were able to go into the stadium at one point as well. It was an empty stadium in the stands, no fans cheering, just really not what you expect for a Friday night football game. with high school students and a big rivalry matchup. So a lot of fans leaving disappointed, not what they expected coming out here to cheer on their team. Steve? Yeah, they cleared the stadium, then play resumed there on the field.

It reached the interregulation tied at 10. They were going to go to overtime, but the refs and police there on the field decided to suspend play. They'll resume that game between Rolesville and Milbrook at a later date. Jemise Price, live on the scene at Millbrook tonight. James, thank you. And we're also on the scene, a breaking news unfolding in Fayetteville, a deadly shooting at a gas station. Our breaking news crew there on the scene. This is the Circle K right off I-95 and Cedar Creek Road.

Just after 830 this evening, Fayetteville police responded to reports of shots fired there at the Circle K, and they found a man had been shot. This is the live feed coming in. Our breaking news crew right there watching the investigation unfold. Life-saving measures were attempted on that man, but the victim was pronounced dead there at the scene at the Circle K. that shooting victim was at the front doors of the convenience store. Evidence markers surround a car there at a gas pump, and the crime scene, evidence markers actually extend next door to the Pizza Hut restaurant. Fayetteville Police are on the scene piecing together how the crime unfolded, and as we learn new details, we'll pass them along on air and online here at ABC11.com.

All right, I know a lot of us are looking forward to the weekend. It is almost here for those of us who work late on a Friday night, and it is a beautiful looking weekend. Don is here with the details. I know just minutes away, Steve, hanging there, my friend. All right, let's show you. Today we saw a mix of clouds and sunshine. More clouds in the eastern and northern part of the viewing area.

More sunshine down to the south and west. As we fast forward tonight into tomorrow, we're going to see clear skies to start today. It will be sunny, gorgeous conditions, upper 70. Sunrise happens at 706 if you want to get an early jump on the day. Let's talk about the high temperatures over the next several days because we are going to warm up. Your first alerts tonight. A cool wake up tomorrow. Temperatures will be in the 40s to start today in spots.

We're already in the 40s in Roxborough. It'll be a real fall weekend after the hottest start to September ever. We're ending the month with a great fall weekend with temperatures in the 70s. And then we're warmer next week. End of the week, we could see upper 80s and more humidity on the way. And here's how that warm up looks. We'll be in the 70s tomorrow near 80 on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday still look pretty good.

The humidity roars back Wednesday and by Thursday, 88 it could feel like it's in the lower 90s. We'll talk more about those feels like temperatures late in the week and rain chances, not a lot of them. We'll tell you when in the next seven days coming up in just a bit. Steve. Okay, Don, thanks. In Johnson County, several students at Smithfield Selma High School are expected to face juvenile charges after two separate fights at the school this week.

one of them left a teacher injured. The most recent incident happened on Wednesday when a teacher saw two students fighting and tried to break up the fight, eventually suffering a shoulder injury while intervening. A day earlier, four other students were involved in a separate fight inside a school bathroom. Now all six of those students involved in the fights are expected to face juvenile charges. The Roanoke Rapids High School football coach Chris Lyons has been suspended following an investigation into an injury sustained by a player. The Roanoke Rapids School District says emergency services were called yesterday. when a player suffered a hand injury following practice in the evening.

School officials then learned the injury may have been the result of an assault or bullying. Law enforcement was then notified. They began investigating and after the school interviewed more than 20 players, they uncovered additional incidents of misconduct, including bullying or hazing within the high school football program there. The district did not specify any alleged conduct by the coach, Coach Lyons, in announcing his suspension. Let's go to Washington now. The U.S. Supreme Court is letting the Trump administration use a,

federal database to check voter rolls. The database is called save and it checks citizenship and immigration records. North Carolina uses it to review voter rolls. In July, the State Board of Elections said the system flagged nearly 1,600 people as potential non-citizens. The Board of Elections released the following statement to eyewitness news, saying the State Board welcomes today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, both the United States Constitution and North Carolina Constitution are clear you must be a citizen of the United States to register and vote in our elections. Meanwhile, a voting rights group is pushing back on that decision. The federal law is unambiguous, right? States must not conduct systematic removal programs within 90 days of a federal primary or general

election. This is just a continuation of that stoking of fear to ensure that certain voters that are eligible don't show up to the polls at all. It comes as North Carolina voters prepare for the midterm elections now just 39 days away. Tohei marks exactly one month since we lost beloved country singer Dolly Parton. And in her honor, Governor Stein, for claiming today September 25th as 9 to 5 day, a reference to her hit song, 9 to 5. Durham also getting in on the fun, the Lucky Strike Tower lit up in pink tonight for Dolly. All day to day, the American Tobacco campus in Durham celebrated Dolly from art to music. There was something for everyone.

Restaurants there had Dolly themed food and drinks for $9.25, $9.25. A portion of sales will now be donated to the Durham County Imagination Library. That was her nationwide charity. And take a look at this, a wig put on Major the Bull in honor of Dolly Parton right there in the heart of downtown Durham tonight. Still to come here on eyewitness News at 11, the Trump administration is planning to spend nearly $2 billion to try to squeeze more electricity out of the country's aging power grid. We'll have the details on the millions of dollars in federal funding. Duke Energy is getting to work on a power grid project right here in North Carolina. in an effort to get more electricity out of the country's stressed power grid. The Trump administration wants to avoid blackouts during this period of skyrocketing energy demand because of data centers and artificial intelligence. The money will go toward 31 different projects across the country that will produce an additional amount of electricity enough to power 16 million homes. One of those projects is right here in North Carolina. Duke Energy is getting $50 million in federal funding to upgrade transmission lines impacted by Hurricane Helene. They say it'll reduce utility bills and customer outages.

to enhanced grid resilience. Well, we received a $50 million Department of Energy grant, and that's going to help us accelerate some grid improvements in certain parts of our service area, especially in western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina. And those are improvements to expand capacity, to improve reliability and resiliency, and to better serve all the customers across this growing state

where we're seeing demand for electricity increase. Officials with the Trump administration say the upgrades could improve power reliability and lower electricity bills, for nearly 100 million Americans. A federal judge is now delaying former FBI director James Comey's next court appearance in that so-called seashell threat case. Comey was supposed to be arraigned next week here in North Carolina, but the judge says

the seriousness of the charges and pending motions warrant more time for defense lawyers to prepare. Comey is accused of threatening President Trump after posting a social media photo from a North Carolina beach last year showing these seashells arranged to read 8647. Prosecutors say 86 was a call to get rid of the 47th president. We're working to learn more about the decision by the Frank Clinton County Sheriff's Office to end the use of those controversial flock cameras that can read your license plate and also track your movements. The sheriff wrote that an audit of the agency's flock system revealed a stream of very

highly unusual activity leading to an investigation which resulted in them discovering a detective in their office was routinely utilizing the flock system to track the every movement of a single private citizen. That detective was identified as Janet Leonard. She has now been dismissed from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. Attorney Mark Williams has set up an advocacy group which opposes the use of flock because of privacy considerations. With respect to government ALPR or license plate readers, historically it was a point in time. So if it was on a police car and it read a license plate and that was on a hot list. That was that point in time. What makes Flock and their competitors so different is the use of AI to build that database.

Eyewitness News tried to reach the Franklin County Sheriff, but he did not respond to our request for comment. We also reached out to Flock, which should not get back to us. And separately, that deputy hung up on an eyewitness news reporter when we tried to get her response. The R.D.U Airport is sharing this new bird's eye view of the work underway on the new primary runway at the airport. Crews are very busy moving nearly 5 million cubic feet of dirt to prepare that site. The new runway will be nearly 500 feet longer than the current primary runway, allowing planes to fly to farther away destinations. It's being built about 500 feet northwest of the existing runway, and when construction is finished in 2029, the old runway will be converted to a taxiway. This is all part of the airport's multi-billion dollar transformation project. In addition to the new runway, the airport is expanding terminal two, adding more parking, and making improvements to John Brantley Boulevard, the roadway there at the airport.

Tonight in Wake County, community members gathered for the 16th annual Big Night Ball. It's a huge fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Triangle. The event was in Kerry at the Umsted Spa and Hotel, and it included stories about young people in the program who were matched with adult mentors who helped us. the kids reach their potential. The fundraiser included a live auction and a silent auction as well. Our president and general manager, Rob Elmore, was there representing ABC11's commitment to supporting Big Brothers, Big Sisters of the Triangle. Here at ABC11, we're getting ready for the ABC11 Food Drive, and we're marking 40 years of taking care of our neighbors who need food in their homes. It's a labor of love that's very personal to our vice president of community engagement here at ABC11,

Monica Barnes. Monica has been a part of the food drive since it began in 1980. It started as the Heart of Carolina food basket. ABC11 back then partnered with fire stations and volunteers and nonprofits to get food to people in need in Durham and Fayetteville. Now it's grown across the entire viewing area. The 40th annual ABC 11 Together Food Drive kicks off on November 18th and our goal this year is to raise 1.4 million meals and we always count on all of you to help us out. ABC 11 together is highlighting ovarian cancer awareness month and there's a big event tomorrow in Raleigh to raise awareness of the. that silent killer. The Gail Parkins Memorial Overeign Cancer Walk and 5K helps raise money for research and it provides support to women battling the disease. The event is tomorrow morning at Sanderson High School in Raleigh and there's still time to join either online or in person. The run begins at 8.30. The walk at 10.30 a.m. and Quailan Murphy will be there serving as MC. ABC 11 is proud to be sponsoring that event at Sanderson High School tomorrow. A cool fall morning tomorrow. We're talking temperatures in the 40s in spots. We're not seeing anything on radar tonight. Just radar trash out there.

That's a clear night and things are dry. On the first alert, Doppler net. Head live out to RDU 56 degrees. Winds have finally calmed down. They were gusting into the 20s throughout today. They have died off a little bit. They could kick back up tomorrow, though, as we warm back up. Manny Oda Murphy tonight, the widespread of temperatures across the region, 20 degrees from 66 at the coast, 46 out in Boone tonight.

The triad and triangle, both at 56, Chase City's at 51, Lumberton, 54 degrees. And we'll see overnight lows tonight in the 40s in spots. 49 in Durham, 50 in Carborough, 51, Smithfield, Clinton, Fayetteville. And in the capital city, we'll bottom out. tonight around 50 degrees. Let's talk about fitness forecast. And if we're walk or run the tomorrow, maybe you're doing that 5K.

Those temperatures will be in the 50s. By 9 o'clock, we're getting close to 60 degrees. And then by lunchtime, we are in the low 70s for some gorgeous weather. Satellite radar composite shows the clouds clearing out as we headed through the evening hours. Here's that low up to the north that's gonna become a nor'easter.

They've canceled all kinds of things. Even Amtrak's canceled tomorrow between New York and Boston. So just a nasty system to the north of us. But around here, that system will spill a few clouds our way. Now, tomorrow we start off clear by the afternoon, lots of sunshine. There are some of those clouds from that northeast here. If you're up in the northeastern part of the viewing area,

Rone Oak Rapids to Lewisburg, up to South Hill, you'll see partly sunny skies to start your day on Sunday. And it will be a mix of clouds and sunshine up here, mostly sunny from the Triagull South as we head through the day on Sunday. Forecast for tomorrow looks like this, 79. Raleigh, 78 in Durham, 80 down in Fayetteville with nothing but sunshine. Your seven-day forecast powered by Accuather, 80, bright, beautiful on Sunday, Monday, 81. Again, though, Sunday, remember, those northern counties will see more clouds. Rinse and repeat on Monday, Tuesday, a little warmer if

Tonight was a big milestone for the NC State volleyball team at its game against the 24th ranked UNC tar heels. It was sold out for the first time in program history.

Unfortunately for the hometown fans back in the stands at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolf Pack lost tonight's match three sets to one as UNC came out on top. But that loss does not detract from the enthusiastic support the team had from all its loyal fans there in Raleigh tonight. Tonight has been awesome. I mean, always the Wolfpack will show out, but tonight especially against our rivals. I've already lost my voice. I expect a lot of other people will too. It's just amazing to be here. I just exchanged text messages with Millbrook head coach Lamar Marshall. He told me that that game finishing is still to be announced. So we'll have to figure out the date
