Right now, at four, the prosecution rests its case in the Faith Hedgepeth murder trial.
New details on the evidence presented by the state as they push for a murder conviction 14 years later.
What happens next for the defense?
A local pastor and former Wayne County deputy killed in a crash over the weekend, his son-in-law sharing what the loss means to the community,
plus what we know about the other driver involved and his connection to law enforcement.
And Battleground, North Carolina, back in the spotlight today with a visit from Vice President J.D. Vance.
The pitch made to voters just about two weeks away from the midterm elections.
Right now, live coverage from your local newsleader, keeping you connected to your community and your first alert forecast.
Here's what's happening where you live. This is ABC 11 eyewitness news.
Right now for a taste of fall hanging around for the start of the work week.
Temperatures in the 60s right now. It's going to get chilly again overnight.
There is a brief warm up on the way for tomorrow.
But it finally feels like fall, doesn't it?
Thank you for joining us for the news at 4.
I'm Barbara Gibbs.
I'm Amber Repenta.
It's certainly here.
Meador, I'll just cruise Medina's here as well.
So Cruz, a lot of folks had to break out the sweaters.
I had to put a jacket on my dog Saturday.
You know, I did it Sunday morning.
I was breaking out my coat out of the coat closet.
One of the mornings, it was very cold.
Yeah, windy too.
By the afternoon, though, it warms up a little bit,
and then you can't decide what to wear, right?
So you have to ditch the jacket.
Going forward, I think it is going to be a little bit warmer.
So we're going to continue with these chilly mornings.
but tomorrow likely the warmest of the next seven days reaching around the mid-70s with sunshine.
And then Wednesday and Thursday, those will also be days in the 70s just in the lower half of the 70s,
which is pretty much where we should be for this time of the month.
Back to this evening.
If you're heading out to the state fair, you've got great weather for that.
It's going to be chilly.
You'll want a light jacket or a hoodie with you as you head out to the state fairgrounds.
And also know that the sun is going to set pretty early tonight at 634.
We're about two weeks away from the time change.
And so for November and December, you can expect sunsets in the 5 o'clock hour.
For tonight, tipters go down into the 40s for most areas.
A few spots like Roxborough could be in the 30s.
That's going to make for a chilly start to your day tomorrow.
You might want the jacket in the morning.
You won't need it in the afternoon.
We'll talk about how long this dry stretch is going to stick around coming up in your seven-day forecast.
Back to you.
All right, see you soon.
Thank you.
And right now here at 4, the prosecution has now rested its case against Miguel, Salgaro Olimars.
The man charged with killing UNC student.
Faith Hedgepeth in 2012.
The state clearly has enough evidence to move forward on a felony murder conviction.
Your Honor, the state would ask to submit all of these to the jury.
Now up next in the case, the defense will begin presenting evidence now Wednesday.
Yes, it's been three weeks since jury selection began, and about a week and a half since opening
statements began.
In that time, the state called 23 witnesses to the stand over the course of nine days, including
former law enforcement officials, legal experts, forensic scientist, and hedgepeth's roommate
Corinna Rosario. Miguel Salgaro Olivares faces charges a first degree murder, rape, burglary,
and sexual offense. And many of you noticing this moment in court today, hard to miss,
when Olivars broke down in tears as the jury watched an intimate jail call. Akila Davis joins
us live outside the Durham County Courthouse with more on what happened today. Akilas,
walk us through this last bit of testimony today.
Yeah, the state rested today after its final witness took the stand.
That's FBI Special Agent in Charge, Justin Heinrich.
I want to go back.
Heinrich testified that the FBI initially was asked to help process the crime scene
and several cars that came up in the investigation the day after Faith Hedgepeth was killed.
But the agency joined the investigation fully a year later.
He told the jury investigators spoke with hundreds of people,
collecting DNA samples as they tried to identify the male DNA found.
in this case. Now this was before the defendant Miguel Sagiero Aliberis became a person of interest.
But a major moment for the defense today focused on something that happened last week.
Back on Friday, Heinrich testified about the forensic extraction performed on Alvarez's laptop.
He says they found a picture showing foreign currency and a handwritten note in block letters.
Today, he said he did more research over the weekend and learned the image had been pulled from the internet.
Now, this is very important because investigators have been looking for handwriting to compare
with the note found on a white bag at the crime scene.
Heinrich admitted they never found a handwriting sample for Alvarez.
So during cross-examination, the defense argued the picture could have led the jury to make
an uninformed decision about who wrote that note.
And if we hadn't had this information discovered over the weekend, that may not have been
corrected.
Correct.
I think it's important to look at the source of all information and make a determination.
I'm glad that we have that information now, and that's why we're sharing that with you.
Because in just looking at a note in someone else's handwriting, if someone's not an expert,
that could be a, I mean, a dangerous thing to try to make a determination.
Wouldn't you agree?
Absolutely.
And there's a reason that, like, you know, this case isn't contingent upon a handwriting sample.
And the jury won't return until Wednesday morning.
That's when we're expecting that the defense to present evidence ahead at 5.
The defense's question about evidence in this case and what attorneys are saying that investigators did not pursue.
Reporting live in Durham, Akela Davis, ABC 11, eyewitness news.
More compelling information as this case continues.
Akela, thank you for that.
We look forward to your next report.
Well, new at 4 eyewitness news is learning new.
details about the deadly crash in Harnock County that left a local pastor dead and eight other
people injured. We now know a Durham police officer was driving the car that hit the church van
carrying several passengers and knew this hour we're hearing from the victim's family.
Duan Hogarth is joining us live from the crash site on the corner of Highway 210 and Old Stage
Road. So, Duwam, what are you hearing from the pastor's family?
Well, first things, first Amber, Apostle, Justin Heath, just minutes before he passed away behind me here at this intersection, actually preached his last sermon. It was actually at a revival at a church about 10 minutes up the road from here. But I spoke with his son-in-law today who's still mourning his father-in-law's loss and what it means to the community who loved them so well. Our cameras capturing the moment's first responders pulled this van from off the highway in Harnett County Saturday evening.
He literally had just left the altar praying and preaching and prophesying with people.
And then a few minutes later, he's in the arms of the Lord.
Justin Heath of For Christ Church was driving their van back to Mount Olive when the highway patrol says Joseph King ran a red light and hit the van.
Durham police confirming to eyewitness news, King is a corporal with the department.
He was off duty at the time and driving his personal vehicle.
Chad Smith is the associate pastor of For Christ Church as well as Apostle Heath's son-in-law.
But this is what he worked for, and this is what he pushed for.
We know he's in a better place.
News of the crash is taking a toll on him while he also seeks comfort during this difficult time.
He spent his last moments with church people cutting up.
And he had people that loved him surrounding him.
And as much as it hurts and as bad as it is,
he would have been the one to volunteer and take the place if somebody had to pass that night.
He would have been the one.
And what makes this also especially tough for Chad, as he was telling me, is that he and his wife,
they stayed back in Mount Olive on Saturday to decorate the church because yesterday, Sunday,
they were actually planning to celebrate Apostle Heath being Pastor Appreciation Month.
The entire church was decorated with pictures, scripture, to honor that man of God there who led that congregation.
Unfortunately, we saw what happened here Saturday night.
We're still working right now with Highway Patrol to find out if any charges will be filed against the driver who at the church van.
We're live in Harnack County this afternoon. Dwan Hogarth, ABC 11, Iowness News.
All right, Dwan, our hearts go out to his loved ones and the congregation.
Thank you for that report.
Now to some other local headlines this Monday and your speed feed first.
The search continues this afternoon to her gunmen in Fayetteville after a deadly shooting at the Stratus Gentleman's Club.
It happened around 4.15 this morning.
Police say they found three people shot there.
One man died, two others were taken to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses tell us there was an altercation inside of the club,
but it is not clear if that's what led to the shooting outside the club.
Fayville police are asking anyone with any information now to come forward.
Durham police are investigating a deadly hit and run on the Durham Freeway.
It happened around 10 p.m. Sunday night.
Police say a 37-year-old man was hit by a car after getting out to check a flat tire.
Police have not identified the victim or released any suspect information.
that investigation is still ongoing.
And we're working to learn more about a bad crash involving a school bus and a car in Johnston County.
This was the scene on US 701 near Keene Roads and Four Oaks.
A car colliding with the bus being used to transport farm workers.
We're told there were 27 people on the bus.
Several were taken to the hospital.
And that is your speed feed.
Barbara over to you.
All right, Amber.
Well, now to vote 2026, Vice President J.D. Vance in Western Carolina today,
making a pitch to voters as he works to drum up support.
for Republicans during the midterm elections. It is the latest high-profile visit to our state,
and it comes as President Trump is set to rally in Greenville tomorrow. Early voting is already
underway with North Carolina continuing to see a surge in turnout. According to the State Board
of Elections, through the same time period in 2022, voting totals are up more than 37%. We spoke with
party leaders in Wake County who discussed key issues in this race. Whether it is chaotic tariffs
that raise prices for everything, war with Iran that is raising prices at the pump.
They are looking for change.
And I think people understand who controls Washington, D.C., who runs the legislature in North Carolina.
And I think we have a real opportunity for change in this election cycle.
We've had a lot of questions about lowering taxes, about the amendments and the bonds,
and a lot of questions about school board and, you know, what's going on with the schools in White County.
And the fact that, you know, a lot of the money has been spent and the schools are having a hard time just keeping up.
Coming up on eyewitnesses at 5, our Michael Perchick will have a live report after speaking with voters in Kerry to learn what their motivation is before this election.
Iwoodice news will have live coverage of President Trump's campaign rally in Greenville tomorrow.
The president is set to speak at the Pitt Greenville Airport.
Now to a story we first brought to you as breaking news here at noon.
NFL star Jalen Hertz will miss the rest of the season.
Lauren Johnson joins us now with the developments on the Eagles quarterback and his health's pretty scary situation.
Very scary. And so many people talking about this today, Jalen Hertz is now out for the season.
Its decision coming after doctors found multiple blood clots in his lungs, according to ESPN.
The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback will undergo some treatment for those blood clots, including blood thinners,
and that's expected to take at least three months.
New this hour, we're hearing from a local doctor with Duke Health explaining more about the treatment.
Blood thinners help prevent clot propagation or worsening of the clot while it's being treated.
the body will break down the existing clot over time.
Generally, that's about three months or even six months of blood thinner treatment.
And the team released a statement saying, quote,
we anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities
when off the blood centers.
In the meantime, he will remain active around the team.
In a statement released by Jalen's agent,
she said Jalen was initially diagnosed with the blood clot when the team was in London.
Now we've learned that clot traveled from his legs to his.
lungs. Barbara Nambor. All right. Hoping that he gets the treatment he needs and is well soon.
Thank you so much, Lauren. We're following breaking news next at four. New reaction from Duke University
after an incident involving a football player and a medical trainer during Saturday's game against
UNC. And fallout in Charlotte. Several police officers now out of a job as the department
investigates alleged racist text messages. And coming up later this hour, the data center debate
heating up in Fayetteville residents demanding answers during today's public hearing.
All right, it's time for a check of first alert traffic. This is i40 near aviation parkway,

So if you are headed either eastbound or westbound near the airport on i40, expect some delays.

Eye witness news.
We are local news weeknights 4 to 630 and 11.
We have a breaking news update right now at 4.
Duke football addressing a moment that went viral during Saturday's game against UNC.
Duke safety Deshaun Stone went down with an injury in the third quarter.
Quarterback Kamari Robinson then swatted the arm of a training staff member as she checked on Stone.
And today, Coach Mani Diaz said the incident fell quote-unquote well below team standards,
but he went on to say that Robinson apologized publicly and privately to the trainer.
He now says it's a matter that will be handled internally.
Our Kate Rogerson will have more on the coach's response coming up on eyewitnesses at 5.
We are also following breaking news in Charlotte this afternoon.
Six Charlotte Mecklenburg police officers have now resigned after police chief Estella Patterson cited them for termination.
It comes as fallout continues over racist,
text allegedly sent by the officers.
The messages were found during an SBI investigation into a former Charlotte officer who was
arrested in July for misusing flock camera information.
President Trump today signing an executive order establishing a women's health arm of the
National Institutes of Health.
This order will promote more research on women's issues and translate that into treatments
and cures.
It will also set up a White House task force to include RFK Jr. and Dr. Oz.
Despite amazing advances and medical.
science, many diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect women remain chronically
understudied. The executive order will sign in just a moment will direct the Department of Health
and Human Services to establish a new women's health division within the National Institute of Health.
The order was spearheaded by First Lady Melania Trump, her second after her fostering the
future child welfare initiative in 2025. Well, right now at four, a memorial.
outside of Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon continues to grow after the deadly shooting last week.
And today we are learning new details about the investigation.
These new images show police raiding the apartment of 16-year-old Griffin J. John, the second, and his mother where they live.
Police say the teen brought a 12-gauge shotgun into his former elementary school and then opened fire on children and teachers.
Three young children and a school teacher were killed.
A seven-year-old boy and a 54-year-old teacher were also seriously hurt.
Police say the shotgun used by the 16-year-old suspect was allegedly purchased by his mother,
and now there are questions about whether she could face charges.
The issue here is about foreseeability, whether or not there were red flags that were missed.
On Sunday, large crowds gathered outside of the school to remember the victims.
Public schools in the town remain closed until at least Wednesday and Silver Rail Elementary is closed indefinitely.
We turn now to first alert whether Noah is out with its winter outlook, and the northern
U.S. can expect warmer than usual weather with no real temperature change for the south.
NOAA predicts the southern U.S. will see more precipitation though, which would help the Great
Plains and the southwest get some relief from drought conditions. It also increases the chances
of winter weather in parts of the south. Areas that have been very dry could see flash floods
and mudslides when increased rainfall hits the dry ground. All right, so we had a kind of a chilly
weekend after a warm end of the week. The fair, this is the first full week at the state fair, so we're
for some nice weather to get out there.
And boy, are we going to get it?
It's sunny all across the board.
Tipters are going to be in the 70s this week.
So I feel like this is a true fall week.
Like the first one that we've had.
It's a sweep.
Yes, I think this is the real fall that we're finally in right now.
So let's check out the temperatures over the next few days.
The average high this time of the month for the triangle is 72 degrees.
And so we're going to see many days near average,
but we're also going to have some days above average like Tuesday, for example.
That's likely the warmest of the next seven days.
You can see tipters come down just a bit through the middle of the week, and then we'll warm up again toward the back half of the weekend and possibly into early next week.
What you're not going to find in this forecast is any rain.
So it is going to be a sunny and very dry stretch.
Thankfully, we had some rain throughout this weekend, but of course we remain under drought conditions at this time.
Enjoy this evening.
It's going to cool down pretty quickly, so 60s through 6 p.m.
And then we drop into the 50s.
So walking the dog, it'll be comfortable.
But if you're not a fan of the chill in the air, you might want to do that while the sun is still up because it's going to dry.
the tipters really quickly overnight with a breezy north wind and clear skies.
So here is first alert predictor.
Notice these tipters dropping throughout the duration of tonight.
By tomorrow morning we wake up with tipters in the 40s in most areas.
We have sunshine, but that breeze will continue as a coastal system remains just off of our coast.
And we're sandwich between that and high pressure, which is keeping us dry, but also breezy.
Into the afternoon, the winds continue.
Tipters should be making it well into the 70s to low to mid-70s, and then it'll cool down quickly during the evening just like.
during the evening, just like what we see today.
Close to 10 p.m.
Tipters will be well down into the 50s.
So from start to finish tomorrow,
obviously it's not going to be the hottest day,
but it's going to be warmer than anything else we'll see this week.
Tipters heading out to the bus stop will be in the 40s.
So parents said your kiddos with at least a light jacket
or a hoodie in the morning by the afternoon.
They can ditch that as tipters will be in the 70s.
And with it being sunny,
that's probably going to feel pretty warm outside.
Out in the tropics, the National Hurricane Center giving this area of low pressure off of our coast,
now a 40% chance of developing at least some tropical characteristics.
So it's possible this gets a name.
This would not be a true tropical system as it's got fronts attached to it.
But we call this a nor'easter.
This has obviously been battering our coast throughout this weekend, and those strong winds will continue.
So high pressure is back to our west.
This system's off to our east, and we're sandwiched in the middle.
So that pressure gradient really driving breezy conditions through Wednesday and into Thursday as well.
Both of those days will be seasonable though and we will see plenty of sunshine.
But here's the wind. You can see even still 40 mile per hour gusts out at the outer banks by tomorrow afternoon.
For our area, mainly gusts in the range of 20 to 25 miles per hour.
And then we'll see the breezy conditions continue into Wednesday.
But we'll start to see things relax a bit as we go into the end of the week.
A live view outside. This is actually from our Roxborough camera.
64 degrees there, 67 in Raleigh, 67 in Fayetteville.
Your first alert, acuether seven-day forecast.
Again, it's a dry one.
Don't expect any rain here.
And that means that you have plenty of time to get outside and do outdoor activities.
So if there's something you've been putting off, not only is it not going to be hot,
but it's going to be pleasant outside.
We could really use some rain.
Obviously, we're not going to see it over the next seven days.
But I would say at least enjoy the nice stretch of weather that we have,
because we know this time of the year, things can get a bit crazy.
That's right.
But boy, this is perfect weather all week.
Absolutely.
Love it.
Enjoy it.
Dry for sure.
All right, Chris, thanks.

Our local news. ABC 11 eyewitness news continues now.
We are back now with a look at your top stories at this hour and a breaking news update to a story we have been following since this weekend.
A driver now charged for a deadly crash in Harnett County involving a church van from Mount Olive.
The highway patrol says Joseph King ran a red light and hit the van.
He has now been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Durham police tell us King is a corporal with their department.
He was off duty at the time of the fatal crash.
Pastor and former Wayne County deputy, Justin Heath, was killed in the crash.
At least six others were hurt.
Vote 2026, Vice President J.D. Vance holding a rally in Hendersonville today, delivering remarks alongside NC Republican Senate candidate Michael Watley.

Yes, sadly. Yes. I witness. He's checking out.
Lake Mickey today as water levels remain low. Cindy Bay Live Force in Durham County
where low reservoir levels continue to affect the community. Cindy, good afternoon.
Yeah, good afternoon Barbara and Amber. Well you can see from the signs behind
me how it's welcoming visitors to the home of Duke rowing here at Lake Mickey. But
the lake has been closed to the public for almost four months now and you can see
behind me that there's not much water to see. There's also still plenty of exposed
shoreline. Durham County remains
in severe drought, with conditions unchanged from last week, according to national data.
All of Durham County is affected, including Sergio Salinas, who relies on well water near the
Little River Reservoir.
Too bad.
Too bad because the well, the well is going down.
Water is putting in very, very slow.
It's not much of the water coming out.
It's real bad.
Water restrictions have been in place since June 15th, and the city remains under a stage
to water shortage response, which includes no sprinkler irrigation, home car washing, and cleaning
hard services with city water. It's only me and my wife living here and a chihuahua. And no, we don't,
we don't waste much water. And so Lake Mickey Park and Marina remain close to public recreation and
boat launches because of low water levels. And so we'll have more on how the drought is
affecting the community. We actually just spoke with a Duke rowing member.
on how this has impacted practices.
We'll have that ahead for you
on eyewitness news at 530 in Durham.
Cindy Bay. ABC 11, eyewitness news.
All right, Cindy, thank you.

So drivers should expect travel delays in this area on Wednesday, the 21st, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., the NCDOT says that crash data shows all-way stops improve driver safety with minimal impacts to travel time.
Today, residents in Zebulin can learn more about town services. Leaders are hosting another front.
porch conversation. The community discussion allows neighbors to meet with public workers,
ask questions, and also share input. Employees with the Zebulan Police Department,
fire department, and parks and rec will be in attendance. Tonight's meeting is happening in
the Barrington neighborhood. The event starts tonight at 6 o'clock, and that's your speed feed.
All right, new it for the future of data centers in Fayetteville continues to be up in the air.
The city council called a special session this morning drawing a crowd of residents demanding answers.
Penelope Lopez was there. She joins us live from City Hall. Penelope, I know you said at noon,
somebody was pretty frustrated. What did you get from the meeting today?
Hey, good afternoon, Barbara. Many people were frustrated. I mean, after two hours of discussions,
the City Council decided to schedule another public hearing. This conversation has stretched
for more than eight months now. Residents tell me they're still waiting for clear answers.
They're flying the plane while they're building it.
Davis says she feels like she's stuck in limbo. She lives in Eastover just 20 minutes away from
Fayetteville, where a proposed data center could end up only 1.1 miles away from her front door.
It's got to go through a bunch of hoops to get past, but Fayetteville, if the landowner requests
annexation, then Fayetteville's rules apply. Right now, Cumberland County's rules apply,
and it's agricultural land at the moment. The City Council Chamber was packed Monday with
residents holding signs that read moratorium now to the rain.
thing. Some including council member Sean McMillan called for more transparency. I would love to
understand why we didn't have the advanced materials both in text and in PowerPoint form prior to
this meeting. During the meeting, senior assistant to the city manager Dr. Andrew Mansell shared
findings from a 120-day study launched in April. The report showed council members toward data centers
locally and in Virginia and consulted with experts. They also held three community sessions
and found water, noise, and power were top concerns. But even after a lengthy presentation,
many including Newben Holmes, say they were left frustrated. They were unprepared, nor did they
have answers to simple yes or no questions. How do you vote on something like that?
And the council also agreed to consult with an attorney to revise the proposed ordinance language.
So it's clear that they're just not on the same page coming up.
We'll talk about what happens next.
We're now reporting live in Fayetteville.
I'm Penelope Lopez.
EBC 11, eyewitness news.
I'm looking forward to that.
We know you'll keep us informed.
Penelope, thank you.
And we hope you'll join us Saturday, October 24th for the Alzheimer's Association's walk-to-end Alzheimer's happening at Fayetteville's Segris Stadium.

Keeping our eye on the economy in North Carolina is seeing the lowest gas prices in the nation right now.
The data revealing a big drop since the state gas tax was suspended back on October 9th.
AAA says the statewide average is 361 a gallon.
That is down 30 cents from last.

It is also 68 cents below the national average.
But gas is still up significantly from last year
before the war with Iran began.

The strikes coming after Ukraine launched one of its largest drone strikes against Russia this weekend.
And amid reports, the U.S. could hold a trilateral meeting on negotiations to end the war, but without Ukraine.

quote, as long as he continues this terror, there should be no place for him at any table.
Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelenskyy saying once again, Ukraine had no warning about the missiles
launched from Russia, saying energy facilities were among the main targets, but civilian buildings
were also hit. Consorts in Ukraine mounting about possible wavering U.S. support amid

All right, this Halloween health experts are warning parents to consider children with autism.
How you can help make the holiday inclusive for all children is ahead.
All right, countdown is on to Halloween.
Hold music. Not what you want to hear when a pipe dispersed in your basement is flooding.
That's why intact insurance.
answers 2 million claim calls per year within 20 seconds. So instead of hearing this lovely track,
you'll hear this in seconds. Hello, intact insurance. Now less than two weeks away, I wouldn't see
looking at ways to ensure celebrations are inclusive for all kids. Data from the CDC shows one in 31 children
in the U.S. are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, which is why health experts say it is important
to consider children with autism when celebrating or decorating for Halloween. Today we spoke with
Madison Nava from Beerman's autism centers on ways to make Halloween in course.
So I think it's super important keeping them in mind that all kids can be inclusive or included in it.
So really bright lights or loud music or really spooky sounds.
Some of those overly realistic costumes and decorations can really be over-stimulating and, you know, sometimes scary for those kids.
And so I think keeping, you know, in mind them when decorating and having kids come door to door is just really important.
One kid is not going to look the same as the other, but maybe some more common ones are loud vocalizations.
They could be running away from their caregivers or whoever they're trick or cheating with.
They could be just crying and being on the ground or on the floor.
Also not all of you know kids are vocal and have vocalizations be able to say trick or treat or be able to kind of make eye contact.
So keeping all of that in mind not every kid's going to look the same but those are maybe some of those more common things that you might see.
The Beerman Autism Center is also hosting a sensory friendly trunk or treat this weekend in Garner at the center located off Spaceway Court.
That event will run from 10 until noon on Saturday.
It's free to attend, but you are encouraged to RSVP on their website.
Well, now today's top trending stories in real news.
First, one haunted house in Utah is going viral on social media.
Check this out.
It is an animatronic haunted house walkthrough for Halloween.
The home is decked out with spooky decor, including pumpkins, spiders, skeletons,
as well as creepy dolls and ghouls.
According to the homeowners, the terrifying attraction is known locally as the divine
graveyard. The family says it takes them approximately seven to eight weeks to set it up. Wow,
it's a lot of work. Well, now to Minnesota where a flock of daredevil chickens are living
life on the edge. Video shows the chickens sliding down, look at that, sliding down a porch
railing. The owners say they watched as the chickens played outside, then they saw them
all lining up to take turns sliding down the wet patio railing. I have never seen anything
like that. That is crazy. All right, well, dinner with Dad is always.
full of surprises and one father in Arizona is bringing the fun to the dinner table. He serves
dinner in a very unusual way, ditching plates and cutlery and simply putting spaghetti and meatballs
right on top of a huge sheet of tin foil. Just a fun family dinner was how he described it.
The video now has more than 16 million views on social media. Dad wants to make it easy.
To clean up. Yeah, we want to have to all the plates. Look at the kids. They're happy about it.
That reminds me of like little kids, you know, when they're learning how to eat and you put the feeding mat down and just pop their food there. That's exactly what that is.
Works fine.
It's a, hey, and no dishes to clean up.
They're probably had a blast.
I bet they did.
Mom's like, what is happening around here?
Absolutely.
All right.
You guys like fall, right?
It's here.
It's here.
And so it's going to be around for at least the next week.
So you've got a pleasant stretch here.
If you're heading out for an evening walk, Tipters will be in the 60s and then eventually we'll
drop down into the 50s as we go into later parts of this evening. So overnight is when we'll
actually see the tipters dropping into the 40s and even some 30s to the north of the triangle.
That'll be in areas like Roxborough, maybe Oxford, Louisburg. Those could be some of the
coolest spots elsewhere. We should have tipters in the 40s. So get ready for a chilly night.
You might want your jacket heading out the door tomorrow, but also since it's going to be sunny,
tomorrow could be a good day to go get a game on the green. It's going to be sunny in the afternoon.
TIPters will be in the 70s. Great golfing weather, great weather in general to be outside.
And from there, we're going to see the temperatures drop only a few degrees going into the rest of the week.
But also what you're going to see in the seven-day forecast is it's going to be bone dry.
So this is a look at possible seven-day rainfall. And you can see there's really none over most of the southeast.
You have to look all the way down into Florida to see any rain. Obviously, there's that system off far coast.
But all that's doing for us is providing breezy conditions. So the breezy conditions will linger at least through Wednesday after
that we'll get back to a more quiet pattern. Thursday and Friday, still sunny days. Tipters
dropped just a little bit and then by the time we're getting to the end of the week and weekend
and early next week, that's where we see warmer tipters returning back to the mid-70s.
Steve and Lauren join us now with what's coming up at 5. Hey guys. Hello, Cruz, new at 5 from the
I-team troubleshooter. Our phones getting blown up right now by text messages and calls about
candidates and the midterm elections. Yeah, Diane Wilson shows us some of those messages are actually
from scammers and they're trying to not only get our money, but our identity too.
And we continue seeing big crowds in early voting locations all across the triangle.
Michael Perchick looking for clues about what that turnout means for both Democrats and Republicans.
And we'll show you a new angle of that controversy for the Duke football program after a player swatted away the arm of an athletic trainer.
We had a sports photographer there at the game against Carolina on Saturday night.
And you'll see that new view we have for you coming up here at 5 o'clock.
And prosecutors rested their case in the faith hedge path murder trial.
Today we're taking a look back at their case before defense lawyers present their case starting on Wednesday.
We'll see you for the news at five here coming up in just a few minutes.
Barbara and Amber.
We'll see you then.
Thanks guys.
New here for a car accident, an imposter, and a mystery.
That's what's in store for viewers of Hulu's new coming of age series, Phony.
On the red carpets, Rossi Diaz has more from the stars and the showrunners.
My mom looks different.
What?
You're high.
Hulu's new mystery series, Phony, follows Sunny, who wakes up after a car accident to find out that his mom
appears to have been replaced by an imposter.
Connie Britton found balancing the two mom roles a challenge.
It was hard for me to wrap my brain around it.
I can't resist it.
I want to try to do that thing that feels a little outside the box
and a little nerve-wracking.
Creator Nick Paley found inspiration for the series at a young age.
When I was in first grade, I was terrified of losing my mom.
Like, I was obsessed with it.
And around this time, I found out that my mom had a twin.
I'm sure I never consciously thought of that when I started writing this thing, but I'm sure that was part of it.
Sunny's suspicions are confirmed when his mom doesn't do their secret message.
The secret I love you. Oh my gosh, that hits so close to home.
Does that's something that you guys came up with or? I think what's interesting about it is that it's weirdly because I actually do that with my grandma weirdly.
And I think it's like a I think it's actually a kind of common thing that people do.
but that everyone thinks they came up with.
The cast is rounded out by the stars
playing Sonny's high school peers.
We had already filmed the pilot two years
before we filmed the main season.
And so we already had that kind of relationship
and we just really hit it off from the start.
You can look forward to weekly episodes.
It's so fun when things come out every week.
There's so few social things that people watch anymore.
You don't know what's happening.
necessarily. So there's this mystery element. There's so much that is so immediate and enjoyable
about the show. But then like give yourself a little week to figure it out. Try to try to figure
it out if you can. Raxi Diaz for on the red carpet. Fony premieres with two episodes tomorrow,
October 20th on Hulu with new episodes weekly. And eyewitness news will continue after the break.
