The recent deaths of three family members in Rocky Mount in the spotlight ahead of tonight's city council meeting, why concerns over utility payments are front and center. Our Johnson County softball all stars winning the Little League World Series over the weekend. We've got a recap of their epic victory. And brace yourselves for another heat wave this week. With highs in the mid-90s, it feels like temperatures soaring into the triple digits. Plus, a possible severe storm threats starting tomorrow. 501. We're tracking heat and humidity today and really through the week. These are feels like temperatures during the afternoon. Today, 105, tomorrow even hotter. So it's going to be a rough week for us with that summertime heat and humidity. By Saturday, though, there's a dip in those feels like temperatures in the 90s. So there are changes coming for your weekend.

Tomorrow and Wednesday, if these storms that develop could be strong to severe. There's an isolated severe threat for your Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday so pretty active week weather-wise. A live look from R.D.U. Nice and quiet there. Live look into downtown Raleigh. 74 degrees. We are partly cloudy right now. Plenty humid. Dewpoint temperatures at 70 degrees at the airport. 72 in Smithfield. Fayetteville, 76. These are actual temperatures out the door. Low to mid-70s. Those feels like temperatures pretty much running neck and neck at this point. Radar and satellite composite, nice and quiet for us for now. The storm chance today about 20% this afternoon. 96 and FAPA for the high today.

95 in Raleigh, 93 degrees around Roxborough. And again, we'll have triple digit fields this afternoon. Very hot still this evening. Temperatures running around the mid to upper 80s through 7 and still near 80 degrees at 11 o'clock tonight. Now with the showers and storms today, if we see any developing, there could be some locally heavy rainfall, mainly south of the triangle. And then tomorrow and Wednesday, some minor flooding possible with some of those downpours that we could see. We'll talk more about that coming up in my full seven day forecast.

Right now, weather and traffic together. Anna, back to you. Quailan, nice and quiet to start your Monday morning commute and to start your week. We're not seeing any crashes, also not seeing any slowdowns. Let's take a live look outside at the DOT cameras. Traffic starting to fill in at 40 and Jones Sausage Road, but so far so good. How many today, a high stakes meeting in Rocky Mount likely focusing on the utility payment policies. City leaders holding talks after three family members died last week. Relatives say the homes electricity had been shut off days before Tracy Swan, Kenny Swan, and their daughter were found dead. Our Tamara Scott following the latest from Raleigh

Eyewitness News Center. Tamara, a really heartbreaking story to know that that family died in that house. Hey good morning Bianca. Yeah, and tonight the Rocky Mountain City Council is meeting for the first time since that family was found dead inside their home and so this morning there were questions about whether this tragedy could lead to changes and how Rocky Mount handles overdue utility bills. And so Tracy Swan, Kenny Swan and their daughter Mahala were found dead inside their Rocky Mount home last week after a welfare check. Authorities are investigating whether a generator had been running inside of the home.

Relatives said the family owed more than $2,000 on their electric bill and tried to pay half of that balance. But we're told the city would only accept the full amount. Now, their electricity was later shut off. Investigators have not determined whether that loss of power played a role in the family's deaths. And the question surrounding the city's utility practices come just weeks after a separate state audit looked at complaints from thousands of Rocky Mount customers. who received two electric bills in the same month last year. That audit found customers were not actually double billed. Now Rocky Mount Mayor, Sandy Robertson said in a statement that he asked the city manager

to explore whether the city can offer greater flexibility to residents, making a good faith effort to pay their utility bills while also ensuring that any changes protect the integrity of the system and prevent abuse. The deaths of the Swan family are not specifically listed on tonight's agenda. But the city council is meeting at seven and so questions continue as to where whether this tragedy could ultimately lead to those changes in Rocky Mounts Fertility bills. Back to you. Okay Tamara, thank you. I knew this morning a closer look at crime in the Bull City. Durham County leaders released new stats overnight showing major crime categories are down in the first half of the year. Cindy

Bay is live in Durham with the key takeaways. Cindy, good morning. Good morning. Well, while crime is down so far this year, reducing violence remains a top priority in Durham. Durham County says it's top eight crimes, by just over 8% compared to this time last year. And that comes as city and county leaders work to reduce violence. Their joint plan aims to cut homicides, shootings, and hospitalizations by 10% each year. And for some residents, that action can't come soon enough. We can keep coming up with recommendations.

We can come up with another recommendation tomorrow. But if it's not put to action, what's on paper won't matter. And also calls for more community street outreach, stronger partnerships in neighborhoods, hit hardest by violence, and more trauma-informed training for residents, service providers, and law enforcement. So we're going to have more on the impact of crime in Durham coming up on eyewitness news. Back to you. All right, Cindy, thank you. In Raleigh, we're working to learn more about a stabbing and a shooting from over the weekend. The first happened at a bar on Fayetteville Street early yesterday morning. Raleigh police say two

people were stabbed outside of a live bar and lounge. Both victims were taken to the hospital. They're expected to recover. About 45 minutes later, police responded to a shooting in Northeast Raleigh. It happened at River Birch and Town Center apartments. At least one person was hurt. Our PD says a gunman left the scene before they arrived and we reached out to police for an update on the victim and the search for the shooter. Happening today, a procession in Cumberland County will bring Staff Sergeant Michael Swinton to his final resting place at Sandhills National Cemetery. friends and family gathered to honor the Fort Bragg soldier at Southview Baptist Church. The Fayetteville native was remembered for his service to the country and his devotion to his family.

Loved ones describe the 30-year-old as warm, welcoming, fun, and kind. Sergeant Swinton was killed last month in Iraq during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone. Well, happening today, a high-stakes court appearance in Raleigh, everything we know about the 17-year-old charge and the teen takeover from July 4th. That's coming up later this hour. Plus new details on a hot button issue being discussed in women's basketball involving transgender athletes. Good morning, Quaylin. Hey, good morning. We're dry right now. Feels like temperatures today as high as 105 this afternoon. So definitely hot. And across the state this afternoon, mainly 80s and 90s, Charlotte 94, 81 in Boone today in Greensboro, Wilmington up to 91 degrees. We'll see a chance for spotty storms along the coast this afternoon also spotty storms inland around central North Carolina today. But that's it. Tomorrow the rain and storm chances climb a bit higher into Wednesday as well. And the heat build. So I have first alert days for Tuesday and Wednesday because of a level one severe threat.

Thursday looks drier for us, the high around 96 degrees. Of course, we need the rainfall deficit at RDU now over one inch. We're approaching one inch for the month in Fayetteville as well. So August hasn't been so good to us as good as July was so far. Across the country tracking more storm, severe threat from parts of the northeast to Chicago, back to the plain states today. Upper 80s in Atlanta could be some interruptions with travel there. 90 in New York City, Dallas. 100 degrees. A break is coming this weekend. I'll have more in that coming up. Bianca, back to you. And so President Trump says low-key talks are still underway between Washington and Tehran. He says he wants Iran to face more economic pressure as he pushes for a deal. However, Iran is demanding the U.S. honor the agreement from June before Rio, opening the Strait of Hormuz. The captain of the boat that capsized in New York City has officially been charged in the horrific tragedy. A 27-year-old woman and her five-month-old daughter were killed when the boat overturned on Saturday night

near the Statue of Liberty. Police say 14 people were on board a dozen others pulled from the water before rescue teams arrived. The US Coast Guard now trying to figure out what caused the boat to capsize. Manuel Hernandez now faces 13 counts of reckless endangerment. Federal officials visiting RDU today. Plus new details on the Panthers preseason game two will have a preview straight ahead.

Congressman Max Miller remains defiant, refusing to drop out of his re-election race. The Ohio Republican will stay on the ballot this November, despite being accused of abusing his ex-wife. The deadline for Miller to end his campaign was Saturday, and the deadline for GOP leaders to replace him on the ballot is today. He's denied all allegations. Meanwhile, President Trump has a new White House counsel.

Will Sharf will replace David Warrington, who is leaving the administration. The president says he knows Sharf well after he served as White House staff secretary. He has represented the president in several cases, including at the Supreme Court. Sharf begins his new job September 1st. WNBA leaders will consider allowing transgender athletes to play in women's basketball. They're discussing the topic during a high-stakes meeting this week. The league's commissioners sent a memo to teams addressing the issues, saying she expects this topic to receive significant attention.

Now this comes after Indiana fever player Sophie Cunningham made headlines recently for supporting a ban of transgender athletes in women's sports. Brush off a thrilling preseason win. The Carolina Panthers hit the practice field in Charlotte over the weekend. Head coach Dave Canales charged up with the the practice schedule by upping the intensity following his victory over the Cardinals. We've learned he'll play some starters during the second preseason game versus the Buffalo Bills. Knowing you're playing, regardless of how many snaps you're playing, like it changes how you prep,

it changes how you eat, how you wake up, what you do in the morning, when you get to the locker room, how you set your things up and you go through your whole routine. It's just a great opportunity to put your mind in game mode. And so we got to take advantage of some of those. We will likely see quarterback Bryce Young hit the field for his first time this preseason. The Panthers face the bills on Saturday. The Johnson County Little League 12 youth softball team winning the World League World Series championship. We're so proud.

They beat Kentucky 2 to 0 in Greenville yesterday after an all-star run through the tournament an entire season. So the girls won all five games in the tournament outscoring opponents 29 to 7 and pitching perfection from Annalyn Clark. She recorded 41 strikeouts fans cheering on the Joko girls. Exciting to see the journey that these girls got to go through. Everything that they had from the moment they got there. All the sponsors and all the fans and seeing the community come to support them has just been amazing. And how they handled themselves out there on the field with such poise and just having a great time bringing it all the way home. This is the first national title for Johnston County.

An official tells ABC 11, party planning is underway for the celebration once the team is back at home. Oh, yeah, a big parade. Everybody, we need to show up and show out for those ladies. You know who made an appearance yesterday? Captain Minnie Mouse. Oh, really? And they were so excited. And Lynn Clark, when she saw they got her facial expression from the distance and she was so thrilled.

Oh, my gosh. So they're going to Disney World. Yeah, well, not quite, but maybe. Maybe they should. Maybe they should. Disney, big boss, you guys listen to that. Oh no, send them. Yeah, what a title.

Yeah, congrats to them. It was a great game. Heat building today. They had a lot of heat yesterday as well. We're looking at temperatures to climb into the 90s pretty much all week long. Here's first alert, Don Burnett. And things are nice and quiet for us right now, but we will see some spotty showers and storms later today. It's going to be a hot week for us.

Those feels like temperatures 100 plus through most of the week. Daily storm chances will be hit or miss, but some could be strong, maybe severe. times and then as we head into your weekend we're tracking that next cold front and it's going to help bring a reduction in our heat and humidity by the weekend today rain and storm chances 20% this afternoon into early evening this is paused at noon today most of us should be still dry at this time but then we'll see some of those pop-up showers and storms they won't be widespread we'll see just some isolated activity through late day here's a live look into downtown raleigh temperatures are in the 70s right now 72 roxborough 74 dorm raleigh sanford 71 Goldsboro and Fayetteville right around those mid 70s. A good pool day today with temperatures climbing into the mid 90s this afternoon. Storm chance again spotty you listen out for thunder when thunder roars go indoors mainly clear skies overnight back to the 70s. Now tomorrow feels like temperatures once again climb into the triple digits rain and storm chance is a little bit higher for tomorrow and that's where we introduce the level one severe threat both Tuesday and

Wednesday for damaging wind gusts. We're going to be on that ridge of high pressure the periphery of the high and that's why. some of the storms could be strong. We're seeing some of that activity around the ridge, around Indiana right now. And so that's the kind of rain and storm activity we'll be following in the days to come. Tomorrow morning, 70s and 80s out the door.

Here's your rain and storm chance by the afternoon. So that would help cool us down for a short time. But of course, once those storms pass, big time humidity cranks up. Wednesday, 40% chance of storms. A drop in rain chance is Thursday. And then I'll have some scattered storms for Friday into Saturday, too.

Rain totals generally around one half of an inch or less. through the next seven days. And of course we need the rainfall with our deficit ongoing. Tropics starting to simmer a bit more. There's one disturbance off our coast, low chance that develops out to sea. This disturbance just off the African coast

has a medium chance to develop. We have plenty of time to watch that, but it's forecast to continue tracking to the west. Highs today, low to mid-90s, a spoty storm chance tonight. We're in the 70s and mainly clear. Here's your first alert, 70 forecast, powered by ACUweather.

So mid-90s today, mid-to-up, we're 90s taking us between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So this is our next heat wave. And then by the weekend, the heat starts to break high temperatures Saturday into Sunday. We'll be in the upper 80s, low 90s, a few storms around this weekend. Weather and traffic together. And finally, a treasure trove of video games. A store in Wisconsin uncovered nearly 100 copies of a previously unknown version of Super Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt in a storage box. Some of the cartridges are in perfect condition.

Just in time for Black Business Month, the Triangles Black Farmers Market back in business. This was the scene from the setup in downtown Raleigh over the week. weekend and it's an effort to support local businesses and black farmers. Eyewitness news spoke to one vendor about the push to shop local. This is important because it gives us an opportunity to connect with people in our local area.

It gives us a chance to also support other vendors and small businesses, black-owned businesses and it really gives us a chance to venture out into supporting other people. The community got a chance to come out by some fresh crime. props and plants, why having some fun. Spider-Man brand new day dominating the box office once again. The Marvel masterpiece had another stunning weekend bringing in $145 million in North America, making it the third biggest second weekend for a movie ever. The only movie released this year that opened higher than that was Toy Story 5, which premiered in June, with nearly $160 million.
