Starting point is 00:05:38 presidents being held at the same notorious jail that housed the likes of El Chapo, Sean Diddy Combs, and Luigi Mangione. President Trump said Maduro's capture will lead to lower oil prices and fewer drugs coming into the U.S. while many Republicans are praising the operation Democrats and even some Republicans are condemning it. It's a violation of the law to do what they did without getting the authorization of Congress. Maduro has long denied drug trafficking. It comes as people across the country are scrambling to understand who's now in charge. Now back to that briefing news we're following in Durham this morning.
Starting point is 00:06:51 A man killed and a woman injured after gunshots were fired into a car. Tamara Scott live on Hillsborough Road now. Tamara, what's the latest? Hey, good morning, Anna and Joel, and that's where I am right here on Hillsboro Road, just behind me. You can see this is still taped off by Durham Police this morning. And the car at the center of this investigation, there is that Chevy Malibu you see with its doors open. Investigators are still rummaging through that car, getting evidence from it as it is part and into one of the bushes there on a Wendy's in a Wendy's parking lot. Now, again, this is something that happened last night just after 9 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Police say that this car was traveling in the 3,500 block of Hillsborough Road here. The Chevy Malibu heading west when a second vehicle approached it on its right side, shooting inside that car. And the driver of the Chevy lost control and eventually came to a stop where you saw there in the bushes in the parking lot of this Wendy's. The driver was taken to the hospital where he later died. And a second passenger, a woman was also taken to the hospital. She has life-threatening injuries. Now, at this point, Durham police are telling and not giving us any information as far as suspect information.
Starting point is 00:08:00 But the Steen remains active as they are still rummaging again through that car you see there. So we'll bring you new details as soon as we can. Back to you. Okay, Tamara, thank you. It is 508, and we're learning more about the two brothers shot and killed at a Fayetteville restaurant. What police are saying about that investigation underway right now. Plus major changes are coming to RDEU details on the airport's ongoing expansion now underway. Good morning, Steve.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Hey, good morning there, Anna. Good morning, everyone. Outside right now, fair skies and clouds that we had overnight pushed out. 28 in Roxborough, 34 now into Raleigh and Goldsboro at 31 degrees. We'll have a high temperature as likely in the 50s, a little bit above average, maybe touching 60 in Fayetteville. And the warm up spring-like weather starts tomorrow and lasts for days. Details after the break. Good morning, everyone.
Starting point is 00:08:48 On temperatures in the 30s right now under fair skies out there. Widespread 30s, a few 20s too, so it's a little cold to start today. We'll have a little milder temperatures in the 50s. And this evening, numbers are going to come down to the low 40s if you have plans to be out. Travel, not bad, the big cities, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, all the big hubs looking pretty good. Got your 7-day forecast in a few minutes, Anna. All right, Steve, thank you. And this morning we are learning more about two brothers shot and killed at a Fayetteville restaurant.
Starting point is 00:09:14 It happened just before 7 o'clock Saturday night at Max Speed Shop. on North McPherson Church Road. Police say when they arrived, they found both people shot. Police say 43-year-old Timothy Nakamoto and his brother, 43-year-old Daniel Nakamoto, were killed. Their family member shared photos with us of the two.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Police say Daniel died at the scene. Timothy was taken to Cape Fear Valley Health, where he later died. Investigators say they believe the shooting was a result of an argument inside of the restaurant that escalated to a physical altercation. So far, no one is in custody,
Starting point is 00:09:44 but police tell us the person of interest has been identified. This week, the man accused of planning a deadly New Year's attack in Charlotte is expected to make his first court appearance. On Friday, federal prosecutors arrested Christian Sturdivant of Mint Hill. Investigators say they believe the 18-year-old planned a knife and hammer attack on New Year's Eve at a grocery store and a Burger King in a town just outside of Charlotte. Authorities say the teen planned to, quote, do jihad soon in that a search of Sturdivant's home turned up a handwritten document titled New Year's Attack 2026. Investigators say the team was targeting Jews, Christians, and the LGBTQ plus community. Sturdivant is now charged with attempting to provide material to support a foreign terrorist organization.

Starting point is 00:11:38 The city of Raleigh is warning of a possible scan involving on-street parking meters by using QR codes. Officials say if you're parking downtown, it's important to use the official app passport parking and never scan any QR codes. The state's first Buckees is expected to welcome its first guest by spring 2027 and right now the future site of the Meben Travel Center is just 32 acres of bare red earth. But by the middle of this year, drivers passing this site could start to see the walls going up. It takes about 12 to 18 months to build the Buckees and construction began in late 2025. We're told the opening date is tentatively set for May 2027, but that will
Starting point is 00:12:23 depend on how fast the State Department of Transportation can build a new I-40-85 interchange at Trollingwood Hallfields Road. Clyde Cooper's barbecue in downtown Raleigh reveals its new location. The Southern cuisine restaurant announced on New Year's Day that it'll move to North Rale's Quail Corner's shopping center on Millbrook and Falls of News, roads. Clyde Cooper's will take over the former barbecue spot, red, hot, and blue. The move to North Raleigh come seven months after the restaurant sold its Swimmington Street property in June. Now let's take a live look outside with the view of the Bull City. I am so excited for all of these warmer temperatures after coming back from the Northeast. Yeah, you picked a good week to come
Starting point is 00:13:02 back. We were driving south and just watching the temperature tick up in the car, getting so excited because the boys got so many toys for like outside use that they haven't used. Because it's been so cold. Good week for it. Yeah. Yeah. Today's probably the coolest day we'll have, but well above average temperatures, despite clouds that'll be increasing at times, especially on Tuesday and again Thursday and Friday. But outside right now, we're looking just fine. Had some clouds overnight. They moved out. It's a chilly start. We'll have some clouds around but a milder day pleasant overall. Warming up, though, this week. Make some plans maybe get around a golf in or just head to the driving range. Feeling like early April for a few days. Next
Starting point is 00:13:40 Rain chance probably arrives Saturday. Still some timing discrepancies here. Some models are quicker like the GFS that I'm showing you. The American model has some showers moving in. Others like the European model doesn't have it coming in until the evening hours. The later it is, the warmer it could be and some guidance in the 70s. So I'm going to keep us warm until the front moves on through. But look at Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and the Saturday. The average is 52. Again, this is like late March, early April. Temperatures coming our way. High clouds have moved on out. Upstream. Nothing. significant. Just some passing clouds we'll see today. The developing storm that's going to bring us rain is still off the coast of California. 30s early on, 35 at 9 a.m. near 50 at midday. So a little chilly early for the walk, taking the pups out. Lots of sun here. There's a deck of some low clouds that are moving in right now from Charlotte up towards the triad. That could cause some issues there in cooler weather up and say Roxborough today. But most of us not going to get that low cloud deck. 34 and in North Hills right now, the east breeze at about five miles an hour. Wide spread up our 20s to around 30, 33 in the Raleigh, 31 Irwin and southern pines right at 30 degrees. Evening plan as you head out, we'll probably see some more clouds pushing on in at those high level clouds at least. And temperatures are going to be in the 40s as we go through the evening hours. Front stays to our north will be 70. That's kind of my pick day of the week because it will have bright skies.
Starting point is 00:15:02 A lot of clouds will move in. We'll be slightly cooler as this front kind of washes out. That next system out here will keep an eye and could bring some thunderstorms to the Ozarks, but look at Little Rock and Houston's near 80 degrees, and that warmth out ahead of the front stays with us for days. Low 50s in Henderson and Roxburgh, 54 into Durham, 56, Raleigh, 60 into Fayetteville. Tonight low temperatures, upper 30s to near 40, partly cloudy early and then probably some fog develops later on tonight, and we'll have that around tomorrow morning. So first of all, 70, more clouds, but despite that, we're warmer. Wednesday, feeling like spring. I'm loving that. day. Even though we'll have a lot of clouds Friday into Saturday. We'll have temperatures near 70 degrees, a risk of a shower Saturday, and then a little cooler as we headed to Sunday, Anna.
Starting point is 00:15:48 All right, Steve, but things on the road's looking pretty good. We did have that one crash at Newburn and Sunnybrook. It looks like that just cleared. It does look like there's some minor delays still associated with that, so we will definitely keep an eye on it. Let's take a live look outside, though. This is 40 and Wade Avenue. You can see traffic is starting to fill in, but so far I've not seen any brake lights. And make sure you stick around for Good Morning, America.
