Deputies now calling it an arson investigation. You are watching eyewitness news at 6 tonight. I'm Dwan Hoggard.
So glad that you've chosen to join us on this Sunday evening.
Now we want to start with our breaking news situation out of Samson County.
Deputies are searching for a man, they say, broke into his girlfriend's home, through gasoline on her, and then set her on fire.
It all happened last night on North Pine Street in the town of Roseboro.
Our breaking news crew was there as first responders arrived there on the scene.
We have Tom George live tonight.
He's been following more on this developing story.
Tom, good evening to you.
Tell us more about what you've learned so far in your reporting.
Yeah, good evening. We know that that man hunt is still underway right now. This started as a fire call now.
An arson investigation as investigators are now searching for the man who they say set a woman on fire.
This was the scene in the town of Roseboro on North Pine Street. Last night, just after 10 p.m., fire crews arrived and found the woman inside with severe burns saying she had been set on fire.
Port any subject for boyfriend Frankie Faircloth was one that came in and poured gas on her in there on trial.
He's certainly on a bicycle.
I was just going to see if he could signify the area for Frankie's riding around someone.
We have a possible direction of travel.
Negative.
The Samson County Sheriff's Office sent out this photo of Frankie Faircloth.
He's now wanted for first-degree arson, first-degree burglary, assault with serious bodily injury, and domestic violence.
They believe Faircloth is still in the Rosebrook.
area. And right now we are working to learn more about that woman's condition. We do know from
authorities, they say that she was burned on two-thirds of her body. In the meantime, again,
that search still underway. If you have any information about this case, call the Samson County
Sheriff's Office. Reporting live, Tom, Georgia, ABC 11, Otis News. All right, Tom again, thanks so much.
Also, tonight, the search continues for the gunmen involved in a shooting on Glenwood Avenue.
It happened just before 2.30 this morning. Rowley police say a man was shot and was taken to the
hospital. He is expected to be okay. Police have not released any details about what led to that
shooting and no arrests have been made. Also in Raleigh, firefighters are working to figure out what
led to a fire at a storage unit. This all happened this afternoon. This is at the safety store
self storage on Capitol Boulevard there. Our camera crew was there as firefighters you see here in
this video working to put that fire out or told no one was hurt but at least one storage
unit was burned. The cause is still under investigation.
Tonight a 15-year-old boys in Kinsden is recovering after being shot.
Police say they responded to the St. John Village area around 1245 this morning for a reported burglary.
It was at that time they heard gunshots nearby.
Moments after, police saw a man dressed in all black running down the street.
He was detained.
A short time later, they were called to a nearby apartment building where they found the teen who had been shot in the torso.
A teen was taken to the hospital.
No word on how they are doing tonight.
not shared the name of the teen or the man that was taken into custody.
All right, let's go ahead and turn our attention now to First Lord weather.
Moore Square turning into a pop-up skate park today.
And it was an absolutely fantastic day to do so.
Temperatures once again hitting the 80s today.
Meteorologist Cruz Medina is in our first Lord forecast center tonight.
Cruz look, we hit the 80s today.
We're still hitting 82 degrees right now.
How much longer will this front of the sun last this week?
Well, it's only going to get hotter from here.
As we go into the start of the week,
temperatures in the middle 80s on Monday.
By the time we get to Tuesday, approaching 90 degrees.
Then we have four straight days of 90 degrees or above.
These will be the first 90s of the year and could challenge old records set back in the 1940s.
But even today was warm.
If you spent any time outside today, what a gorgeous day we had.
Average highs of 72, we hit 84 today in Raleigh.
We did have some 70s across the northern tier, but from the triangle down into the sand hills, it was definitely a warm day.
Now it's going to be a warm evening too.
If you have dinner plans, be a great evening for dinner outside.
Temperatures will stay in the 80s by the time we get into the next few hours and then eventually dropping into the 70s.
So later tonight, lows will only bottom out at around 60 degrees.
That means you have a mild start to your day.
And for tomorrow, obviously it's going to heat up pretty quickly.
By the time we get into the midday hours already in the middle to upper 70s, 80s all through the afternoon.
And again, this is just the start of a mini heat wave on the way.
the details coming up in your seven-day forecast.
Do you want.
We're going to get some good use out of that AC this week.
Absolutely.
We're new details tonight in the war with Iran.
President Donald Trump now says the U.S. will begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz,
and it comes after 21 hours of negotiations with Iran on Saturday that failed to reach an agreement to end the war.
ABC's Marcus Moore has our story tonight.
President Trump writing on his social media platform early Sunday that the U.S. Navy will begin the process of blockading all ships
trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz.
That threat coming after a U.S. delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance,
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner,
failed to reach an agreement with the Iranians to end the war during trilateral meetings in Islamabad.
The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment
that they will not seek a nuclear weapon,
and they will not seek the tools that would enable him to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon.
Iran's lead negotiator blaming the failure of the talks on the U.S., saying the U.S. side failed to win Tehran's trust during the negotiations.
The White House is demanding Iran turn over its stockpile of enriched uranium, end its ballistic missile program, and its support for terror groups, as well as threats to stop the free passage of ships in the critical strait of Hormuz, where one-fifth of the global oil supply flows.
The straits closure has been impacting gas prices here at home.
The gas index showing a 21% increase last month, the largest one-month jump since records began in 1967.
In an interview with Fox News, the president was asked if he thinks gas prices will be lower by the midterms in November.
I hope so. I mean, I think so. It could be. It could be or the same or maybe a little bit higher, but it should be around the same.
I think this won't be that much longer.
Meanwhile, despite no deal between the two sides, the president saying negotiations got friendly towards the end.
We got just about every point we needed, except for the fact that they refused to give up their nuclear ambition.
And that's the only point, frankly, to me, that was the most important point by far.
Pakistani officials saying Sunday they hope to continue facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
Marcus Moore, ABC News, Beirut.
Right up next to news scam targeting immigrants.
We have new details on the fraud scheme that is scamming people out of thousands of dollars by using fake charities.
Where are my gloves?
Come on, heat.
Winter is hard, but your groceries don't have to be.
This winter, stay warm.
Tap the banner to order your groceries online at voila.ca.
Enjoy in-store prices without leaving your home.
You'll find the same regular prices online as in-store.
Many promotions are available both in-store and online, though some may vary.
Welcome back.
We have a new scam alert that you need to be aware of because it's
spreading across the country and it's even happening here in town too.
Bianca Holman explaining how thieves are using the name of nonprofit groups to take your money.
As people migrate to the United States, they often seek legal help from organizations like the Catholic
charities of Diocese of Raleigh. But recently, this vulnerable population is being taken advantage of.
It is very helpful.
Consuelo Kui is the director of immigration legal services.
She says thieves have stolen thousands of dollars from them.
We have received calls, a lot of people thinking that we have their immigration case.
And the result is that the scammers are, you know, targeting victims.
This is what happens.
Scammers create public social media pages that appear real and belong to pro bono legal services.
They also create what's at profiles posing as immigration lawyers using names and logos of legitimate groups,
even using similar documentation, which makes it appear credible.
But it's not.
Scammers use scare tactics like threatening deportation
and use hard to trace online payment platforms.
Victims fall for it, and oftentimes end up in debt.
It really makes me feel very, very sad to hear the stories of these people,
but it's very angry.
We feel very vulnerable.
Advocates are sending out a warning.
Groups like the Catholic charities will never use WhatsApp to communicate.
nor will they request a payment through apps like VINMO or Cash app.
If somebody thinks that has been a prey of a scammer,
just contact the local authorities,
contact us at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rale,
but also communicate to your neighbors.
It's important that the community knows and is aware that this is happening.
And the scammers are using all tricks available for the,
people to be falling prey.
Bianca Holman, ABC 11, eyewitness news.
All right, thanks, Bianca.
Like I was saying a little earlier in the newscast,
we're getting ready to heat up in a big way.
So it's already been a warm weekend by the time we start the week.
Temperature is very similar tomorrow to what they were today and yesterday,
near 90 by Tuesday and then in the lower 90s on Wednesday.
So that's the first day of many that we could be at or even exceeding our records
dating back to the 1940s.
So as we go into the middle of the week,
high pressure will slide offshore.
That turns our winds out of the southwest.
That's going to help to build this heat into our region,
but also keeps us very, very hot.
So this is widespread heat.
Anyone south of that cold front will see this heat going forward in time.
Now for this evening, it's going to be pretty warm.
Temperatures will be in the 70s if you're stepping out to walk the dog.
Throughout the rest of tonight should be pretty quiet,
just a partly cloudy sky.
And then tomorrow we should see highs topping out in the 80s.
So from start to finish, tomorrow's going to be warm.
We start out on the 60s.
Highs will be in the loads mid-80s for those afternoon highs.
And your first alert seven-day forecast shows for 90-degree or above days as we go into the middle and end of the upcoming work week.
That heat will continue into next weekend with the only shower chance that we have over the next seven days being next Sunday.
That'll cool us back into the 80.
So obviously, Carolina, super pumped up to be going into the playoffs.
They could win 50, they already have 52 wins.
They could tie their all-time mark with 54 victories if they win these last two games on the road.
Absolutely.
And Trey and I, we were talking before the show just how much the Cains, like, you know, how excited we are for them going into the playoffs.
And even not have to worry about the Panthers at all this year.
No, you don't have to worry about Florida anymore.
The Cains are the guys on top in the Eastern Conference.
Don't want to put too much pressure on them, but I know they want to get to that cup, at least get to the Stanley Cup final.
This year would be the year to do it.
They are the top team in the East, bar none right now.
Absolutely.
So we're going to see how they do.
A lot of games still have to play between now and where the Stanley Cup finals are in June, I want to say.
Yes, a lot.
So so many things could happen before that.
All right.
Well, thanks so much, Trey.
Well, that's going to do it for this half hour again.
Thanks so much for watching.
The team and I will see you later on tonight for Iowa News at 11.
Have a great night.
