Right now at 6th, some breaking news out of Raleigh, water rescue crews responding to a pond after reports of a man jumping in and then disappearing. Our breaking news crew on the scene right now as first responders continue to search the area. You're watching eyewitness News at 6th. Thanks for joining us on this Saturday evening. I'm Tom George Dewan Hogarth has the night off tonight.

We'll get to that breaking news in just a few minutes. But first, we want to take you to some first alert weather. It has been a bright and beautiful day across Central Carolina. With people in Western Raleigh taking advantage of that nice weather today. Good day for some disc golf out there. And we hope you're enjoying today because tomorrow, the viewing area under a level one severe weather risks. For rain and thunderstorms, damaging winds all potentially on the table. So let's send things right over to meteorologist Cruz Medina in the first alert,

forecast center. So Cruz tomorrow a first alert day. What do we need to know? Well, it's tomorrow afternoon and evening, Tom. That's when we have that low end risk of seeing a strong storm, possibly with damaging winds. And so that's what that level one out of five risk is indicating here. This does encompass all 23 counties that we cover here at ABC 11. And so again, that's going to be for the second half of the day where you'll have to be on guard for possible severe weather. Live look outside in North Hills. Today, we've seen a mix of sun and cloud. So even though we've had the clouds, the sun's kind of been shining through them we call that filtered sunshine and that's what we can see in North Hills right now.

They didn't stop the tipters from rising. It's a warm and muggy day out there. 87 degrees in the city of Oaks, 84 in Roxborough and 90 in Fayetteville. So it is going to be a nice and dry evening. If you have plans to be outside, I'd say firing up the grill would be a good idea for this evening. Tiptors will stay in the 80s. Again, it's nice and dry right now, a bit muggy outside, but that's about the only thing you have to worry about through this evening. We will eventually see our tipters falling down to around the low 70s later tonight. So it's not going to cool off much for tomorrow. We are expecting a more active pattern. So you have some dry time throughout the morning hours. Tipters will be in the

70s then by the time we get into the midday low 80s and then we will see the rain chances ramping up for the afternoon. So despite rain chances, we should still see the highs in the mid to upper 80s, with the exception being in our northern counties. Scattered showers and storms are expected for the second half of the day. We'll walk through an hour by hour timeline of that coming up with first alert predictor in your extended forecast. Well, turning now to that breaking news out of Raleigh, water rescue crews responding to a pond after reports of a man jumping in and disappearing. Now, this is the 2,400 block of East Millbrook Road near Atlantic Avenue. Our breaking news crew talked with a friend of the. man who was there when it all happened. He tells us the man jumped into the water,

went under, and never came back up. Now, last check, crews were still searching for that man. We'll update you online and on air as we learn more. And also in Raleigh, police responding to two separate shots fired calls today. The first one happening in a strip mall on Rock Quarry Road. This is the 5,400 block of Rock Quarry Road near the Dollar General Store. Multiple police responding to the area. You can also see the yellow tape in front of the stores right there. We have reached out to RPD to see what exactly happened and if anyone was hurt. Meanwhile, police also responding to this shooting in a Raleigh neighborhood. This is Shillam Street near Newburn Avenue and South Raleigh Boulevard.

Our crew was there on the scene. You can see police searching the area for evidence. We're still working to learn what led up to that shooting and if there are any injuries. Well, tonight, a man behind bars after a deadly stabbing in Raleigh, a 33-year-old David Hoyle is now facing a murder charge for allegedly stabbing Matthew Bullock to death. It happened last night on Crab Orchard Drive near Lake Johnson, unclear how the two knew each other or what led up to that deadly violence. And in Moore County, two men recovering after a shooting in Southern Pines.

Officers say they responded to a shots fired call just before 1 o'clock this morning near Rothney Avenue and Haynes Court. When they got there, they learned two men had been taken to the hospital and private cars after being shot. Police believe a party was happening at the location of that shooting. Investigators say they recovered multiple shell casings from the scene. both of those men are expected to be okay. No arrests have been made. And we have a sad update in the search for a Western North Carolina woman. The Kataba County Sheriff's Office says the body of 58-year-old Robin Doyle, the missing Hickory woman. Investigators believe she was possibly kidnapped from her home earlier this week. Her body was found yesterday afternoon in northwestern Kataba County.

The discovery of her remains came days after investigators arrested and charged a registered sex offender in connection with her disappearance. Investigators have not yet shared her cause of death. Well, turning now to your voice, your vote, North Carolina Democrats gathering tonight in Raleigh for their annual unity dinner, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren will be giving the keynote address to a sold out audience. Of course, it all comes as we're just now a few months away from the crucial midterm elections. In the Senate race here in North Carolina, heating up a lot of national attention on the line

in both parties, hoping a win would help them in Washington, D.C. John Dowding live right now inside the Raleigh Convention Center where that dinner is set to get underway in the next hour. John, November right around the corner, all eyes on North Carolina. And Tom, we're only going to get even busier as we get closer to Election Day. Obviously, we are seeing so much attention from nationwide fall right here on North Carolina on a lot of our major federal races that are on the ballot coming up in November. Obviously, a lot of that attention centering around the open Senate seat here in North Carolina, both parties hoping that a win in the state. Senate race here in North Carolina would ensure control of the Senate in Washington. Obviously, the Senate race here between former Governor Roy Cooper and former RNC Chairman Michael Watley, again,

catching a lot of attention here. And again, now NC Dem staff say tonight's unity dinner really just serves as a way for them to fundraise so they have to meet their goals going into November, but also as a way to shore up energy and excitement going into that final stretch of the election. Again, as you said, Massachusetts Senator and former presidential candidate, Elizabeth Warren. She's going to be delivering the keynote address later this evening and talking about a lot of the messaging that Democrats have been emphasizing and throughout the election cycle this year going into November. We spoke with the head of the North Carolina Democratic Party who says a lot of the messaging they're hearing, a lot of the concerns that they're hearing from voters here

in North Carolina all centering around concerns related to their wallet. Take a listen. I think that all you're going to hear from North Carolina Democrats is talking about making sure that we're lowering costs for people across the state. It's the number one thing that I hear on the doors when I'm out knocking in places like Halifax County where we were this last weekend. And we're also hearing from the NCGOP tonight about this event. They sent us a statement,

saying in part, quote, the North Carolina Democratic Party has fully embraced the move to the radical less socialist agenda. And tonight have brought Ann Elizabeth Warren to support Lori Cooper, Anita Earls, and their extremist nominees in Raleigh. North Carolinians will reject their radical agenda

once again this fall and elect common sense Republicans up and down the ballot. Now, one of the other races also catching attention here locally in the state is this race for a Supreme Court seat. Justice Anita Earls is facing off against Republican challenger Sarah Stevens.

Again, one of those other races here catching a lot of attention in North Carolina. Coming up later this evening here at 11, we'll have more from this evening's dinner. We're hoping to speak to some other of our elected candidates, our elected officials, I should say, in Washington. We're gonna be speak with them later this evening.

We're back now with the latest from the war in Iran. Sources telling ABC News, President Donald Trump reportedly weighing another round of intense strikes on Iranian energy targets. These potential attacks come as U.S. embassies in the Middle East are now issuing warnings to Americans in the region. Here's ABC's Matt Rivers with those details. According to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter, President Trump is weighing a round of intense strikes on energy targets in Iran.

U.S. Central Command says planning for the potential attacks is well underway, but, though, plans could still change. Iran has already threatened to retaliate against strikes on its energy sites by hitting Israeli targets and US energy infrastructure in the Middle East, according to Iranian state media. A spokesman for Kuwait's Ministry of Defense says its air defenses intercepted Iranian drones inside Kuwaiti airspace earlier today. Meanwhile, the US has been pressing for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. A British Maritime Safety Agency is reporting two incidents took place Saturday in the critical waterway. President Trump has said that while he's not ruling

out a deal to end the war, he says talks have not gone well. I'm losing faith in them because they do lie and they do ministered. Amid escalating tensions at least 10 American embassies across the Middle East issuing alerts, saying Americans in the region should exercise extreme caution and should consider departing. Here at home, investigators are looking at whether Iran or any of its proxies are responsible for cyber attacks on water systems across Minnesota. Iran does have the capability to go in and wreak havoc to go in and change the settings on the water. Every industry, every business relies on water.

And so if you just impact that one little thing, it will cause a ripple effect. According to sources, Georgia and Michigan are reporting similar cyber attacks on some of their water systems. And just last week, a number of federal agencies, including the FBI and NSA, warned of ongoing Iranian-affiliated cyber-targeting of Internet-connected operations. technology. The Nightdale Police Department sharing this photo on Facebook today showing some of the damage you see right there. They say this happened overnight. Someone went into the bathrooms, completely destroyed them, breaking the toilet and throwing trash everywhere. If you know anything

about the vandalism, Nightdale Police would like to talk to you. Right now at 6, we are less than a month away from the start of the traditional school year and families now trying to get prepared. To help parents out, the Durham County Sheriff's Office organizing a back-to-school event today, Jimmy's Price explains why this event comes right on time, as many families right now, still dealing with those shrinking budgets. In the summer heat, Hundreds of people packed the Durham County Stadium to grab free school supplies. At the annual stop the violence and resource fair. This is wonderful for the community.

Pencils, pens, notebooks, the Durham community stepped up in a big way to give back just in time for the start of the school year. I'm very thankful. Moms like Betty Little appreciates the community's support. She came out to the school supply drive with her daughter Armani and her two nieces, Kayla. and Kamaya. This is wonderful for the community. Durham County Sheriff Clarence Burkhead says it's important students have a strong start to the school here. I am convinced if we didn't do this, some of these kids would not have supplies and we know how tough it is on teachers now. They don't have the resources to buy extra supplies. So again, this is really, this is really critical for these kids.

And the support goes beyond school supplies. They're also working to connect families with the tools they need. I just spoke with a lady who's living in the extended state. So we're connecting them with the resources that they need so they can get stabilized and get on their feet. This is the fourth year of the school supply drive and it arise as families are facing rising back to school expenses. According to the National Retail Federation, parents will spend nearly $864 per child this school year. A lot of parents don't have enough money to support kids. and they struggle to get their kids' schools supplies. I've got two high schools.

Back to school right around the corner and over in Raleigh, Carolina Hurricanes player Jacob Slavin hosting a back to school bash with the Raleigh Dream Center. 3,000 backpacks and supplies given out to children served by the organization. They also had festival ride, games and food trucks. And it was some good sunshine out there for that, but that may be the end of the story

as we head into the week, Cruz, right? Yeah, that's right. So we are expecting an unsettled pattern, Even though today's been pretty nice outside, other than it being muggy, Sunday we do expect the rain chances to return to the forecast. So for this evening, if you have any plans to be out and about, enjoy it. Obviously, there has been quite a bit of clouds around today. Tipters through this evening will be in the 80s. By the time we get into tomorrow, you have some dry time, but during the afternoon and evening, that'll be a time to stay weather aware as we have that level one risk for severe storms.

Sunday is the first alert day and then into next week, still expecting it to stay unsettled with daily rain chances. So you're evening out tonight. Again, no problems there. The rain is well back to our west impacting the triad and Piedmont region. Tipper's state in the 80s. There are about 9 p.m. and then we'll fall into the 70s. It's not going to cool down that much tonight. And you'll see that here on First Alert predictor. So we'll have these clouds in place. That kind of helps to trap the heat toward the ground and not really allowing us to cool off much. Into tomorrow morning, there could be a few spots that wake up with a shower or a storm in the morning. That said, most areas are just going to be cloudy with tipter's in the 70s. Then through the afternoon, that's when we start to see storms pop up closer to three or four. And these will continue through the evening. So moving from west to east, that should start to die down as we go into the evening and we lose that daytime heating. But into next week, obviously, it's still going to be unsettled. So tomorrow, not expecting any widespread severe weather, it's an isolated risk of a strong storm. Level one out of five, damaging winds would be the primary concern with any of the stronger storms.

And then going forward, we will see the tipters also coming down a little bit due to the rain chances. So tomorrow, mid, in some cases, maybe a few upper 80s out there, but the rain chance will keep us on the cooler side. So once storms come in, that'll drop our tipters into the lower half of the 80s. And we stay in this unsettled pattern going into next week as well as we get an upper level low pressure that kind of gets cut off from the main jet stream. So this is going to keep funneling in moisture as that spins to our west. And so we can expect a daily rain chance. This is just a snapshot of what that looks like. So tomorrow, obviously pretty wet.

Some spots that see storms could see higher totals. Into Monday and Tuesday, the rain is lighter. And we'll definitely see that lighten up by the middle of the week. But going into next weekend and also the end of the upcoming week, you can see that as the rain chance goes down, the tipter start climbing again. So we'll be in the upper half of the 80s again by Wednesday with a few spotty showers, a few storms Thursday and Friday. but temperature's in around 90 degrees, and that's where we stay going into next weekend as well. Now, with this wet pattern setting up, this does bode well as we continue to remain under drought conditions in Central North Carolina. Tom, back to you.
