Right now, live coverage from your local news leader, investigating new information tonight, and your first alert forecast.
Here's what's happening where you live. This is ABC 11 eyewitness news.
Are breaking right now at 6 eyewitness news, learning the man killed after entering a secured perimeter around President Donald Trump's home in Florida this morning is a North Carolina native.
The man has been identified as 22-year-old Austin Tucker of Moore County.
This is a photo shared by his brother on social media. Tucker was shot and killed by U.S. Secret Service agents in Palm Beach County law enforcement.
Authorities say Tucker was armed with a shotgun and a fuel can when he entered the Mar-Lago estate in Palm Beach.
I want to say thank you so much for joining us tonight at 6. I'm Dwan Hoggard. I want to go ahead and let you know what we know right now at this hour.
This all unfolded around 1.30 this morning. Tucker entered Mar-a-Lago through the North Gate as an employee was walking out.
He made it about 20 to 30 yards before he was confronted by law enforcement.
The president and first lady were at the White House at the time.
White House officials say Trump has been briefed on the situation.
Since this area, the shooting was under secret service protection at the time.
The FBI is assisting the investigation.
Currently, our evidence response team is processing the scene, collecting evidence,
and we'll continue to work the scene for as long as it takes.
IWNUS News has learned Tucker lived in the town of Cameron.
The Moore County Sheriff's Office says he was reported missing by a family member early this morning.
We have Tom George joining us live this half hour in Cameron.
Tom, good evening to you.
Have you had a chance to talk with family members?
If so, what are they sharing with you?
Yeah, I have.
They're obviously very shocked by this.
And we have constantly been seeing a federal crews going in and out.
They have been surrounding this area right near the home of 21-year-old Austin.
Martin, who we know was the suspect that was killed by Secret Service after allegedly traveling to Florida with a shotgun and a gas canister. Again, this all coming as a shock as well to neighbors, not only knowing that the suspect was from North Carolina, but lives just down the street from where we are right now. I do want to take you to some drone video from a little bit earlier, a little bit closer view of where those federal crews were searching around the property earlier. But right now, a motive for all of this still unknown. We know that.
that Martin was reported missing here in Moore County
around the same time that he would have been in Florida.
Martin's cousin was here earlier.
He tells us Austin Martin was quiet.
He worked on a golf course
and says that this all comes as a shock to them
because they say that he had no interest in guns.
I'm a big hunter and I'm around guns all the time
and he's never used one.
He won't, he don't like him.
He don't like it hurts his ears.
Now as for a possible motive still unclear,
The cousin told us that the family are all big supporters of President Trump,
but then Martin didn't seem to have any interest in politics.
According to the Secret Service, the president was not even in Florida at the time that this happened.
Now, this entire area that is behind me is owned by Martin's family.
The cousin says this has all been very difficult for them because Martin's sister actually passed away a few years ago in a car accident.
But obviously, again, still trying to process all of this, still trying to figure out of a
potential motive. We do know that when he was reported missing all that information that was
given by the family to investigators here in Moore County has now been passed along to federal
investigators as they continue their investigation here in the town of Cameron. We'll, of course,
continue to follow up on this and let you know as soon as we have any updates on this case.
For now, we're live in Moore County tonight. Tom, Georgia, ABC 11, Howitness News. All right, Tom,
still a lot of questions to sift through again. Thanks so much for your reporting. On that note,
We will continue on to follow the latest developments as the investigation continues in South Florida as we work to learn more about the suspect.
Our coverage continues coming up on eyewitness news at 11.
And for now, you can find the latest information over on our website, ABC11.com.
Well, now let's go ahead and talk first alert weather.
A breezy and chilly day across our area today and the rain officially moving out.
Chief meteorologist Don Schwinnaker in our first alert forecast center in for Cruz Medina tonight.
Now tell us right now what can we expect?
for the remainder of the night and even going into our work of school week.
Well, the showers are moving out, but it's about to get a lot colder around here.
Good evening to you, DeWan.
We're taking a live look at First Alert Doppler net tonight, scanning the skies.
We'll turn on the rain snow mix, and you can see, I can see some snowflakes up here from Warrington into south.
So nothing heavy and nothing that's going to accumulate.
Little heavier as you slide south towards Zebulon, Smithfield, those areas seeing some heavier pockets of showers working off to the east.
This will work out of here over the next couple of hours.
Live look into the city of medicine.
Nice sun set going on in downtown Durham, 40 degrees, mostly cloudy, but those winds are gusty,
23 miles per hour, and those winds give us some wind chills tonight.
That feels like temperatures this evening falling into the 20s by 1 o'clock in the morning.
It feels like it's down into the teens.
It's going to be a very cold Monday tomorrow.
Highs only in the 40s in these numbers.
They'll stay in the 30s all day.
We'll talk more about that.
And I'll first alert you to a warm up in your seven-day forecast.
That's coming up in just a bit.
want. All right, see you soon Don. Thanks so much. Now it'll be a good time to download the ABC 11 mobile app. We will send you all of the weather headlines directly to your devices. You can also check the first Lord Dopplernet and the seven-day forecast. Well, new tonight, we are working to learn more about a shooting overnight in Raleigh. Two people were shot in the Glenwood South District. It happened around two o'clock this morning on West North Street, not far from Hibernian Irish Pub. Both victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. So far, there's no word on any arrest or what led up to the shooting.
We're developing right now a North Carolina trooper dies in the line of duty.
Highway Patrol says master trooper Stein Davis lost control of his car and crashed on Highway 130 in Robinson County.
The cause of the crashes under investigation tonight.
Meanwhile, Governor Josh Stein releasing this statement, saying in part,
My Heart Goes Out to the Family, the NC State Highway Patrol, and the entire law enforcement community
warning the loss of a son, a friend, and a colleague.
Well, up next, the partial government shutdown is already leading to travel impacts
while the Department of Homeland Security is reversing course on the decision to suspend TSA pre-check
and the impact it could have on a busy travel season this spring.
We are local news. ABC 11 eyewitness news continues now.
Welcome back now to the confusion for millions of travelers after the Department of Homeland Security
announced it would be suspending its TSA pre-checking global entry programs at airports across
country that move due to the agency's lapse in funding. However, a leader's then abruptly
reversing course in part. It's the latest travel twist as TSA workers go without pay for
another week with busy spring break travel plans quickly approaching. Sean Coffey has more tonight.
The whole reason for pre-check and for global entry is to make things faster. And why do you
want to get rid of the one thing that helps you out? On Sunday, the latest ripple in the funding dispute
that's left TSA workers without a paycheck for a week.
The Department of Homeland Security first said it's suspending TSA precheck and global entry
as lawmakers remain at an impasse over funding for immigration enforcement.
Hours later, DHS changing course, saying precheck would remain open while global entry could
still be suspended.
They've already checked the people ahead of time and they've already looked at it
and that means they can move quickly.
We stopped by RDEU where all lanes, including precheck, were open Sunday.
In a statement, the TSA, saying,
At this time, TSA precheck remains operational with no change for the traveling public.
As staffing constraints arise, TSA will evaluate on a case-by-case basis and adjust operations
accordingly.
But with a major winter storm barreling toward the northeast and the busy spring break travel season
approaching, major questions loom about travel times with TSA workers across the country caught
in the middle.
Charlie Leoko, with travel advocacy nonprofit, Travelers United, says keeping all priority
lanes open will ease the burden on the whole system.
Especially during the period when people have sickouts and they've got the problems of not paying people when they're actually working, the pre-check actually works better.
Now with Sean Coffey with that report for us tonight.
Meanwhile happening today, the North Carolina Education Lottery debuting a new game.
It's called Millionaire for Life every night.
Players will have the chance to pick five numbers from 1 to 58 and a millionaire ball number from 1 to 5.
The top prize is $1 million a year for the rest of you.
your life. This is the lottery's first new draw game since 2024.
Well, a major snowstorm is targeting the Northeast. More than 35 million people are now under blizzard
warnings. The storm expected to bring dangerously strong winds and heavy snow. When we come back,
we'll have more on the travel ban and emergency warnings right now in New York City.
And here at home, the rain moving out as we take a look here in downtown Raleigh,
high atop our Pendo Sky Cam.
Looking pretty gorgeous here for a Sunday night.
You're going to want to stick around.
We'll have Chief Meteorologist Don Schuoniker back with his full first forecast and what that could mean for you and your work week.
Well, new tonight, the leader of the powerful Halisco New Generation Cartel, known as El Mincho, was killed today.
Nemicio Asguerta Servantes was killed during an operation led by Mexico's military.
Asguero, a former police officer, led one of the most powerful and ruthless criminal organizations in Mexico, according to the U.S.
Drug Enforcement Agency. Oskarta was wanted by U.S. authorities who offered millions of dollars
for information on his whereabouts. Authorities have not released details about the operation
leading to his death. While happening now, more than 70 million Americans from Virginia to Maine
are on alert tonight for winter storm conditions. Thousands of flights have already been canceled,
and that number is expected to rise. Tonight, here's ABC's Olivia Rubin with those details.
Millions of people along the East Coast are breezing for a powerful winter storm that is forecast to bring up to two feet of snow, strong wind gusts and possible coastal flooding, a combination that could lead to white out conditions and scattered power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, the entire state of New Jersey is under a blizzard warning.
The last time that happened was January of 1996, more than 30 years ago. And in Philadelphia, a snow.
emergency is in effect, the school district declaring a remote day for students on Monday.
New York's governor declaring a state of emergency in at least 22 counties.
It's not just nice snow falling down.
It is going to be whipped up by the wind with gust of up to 60 miles an hour.
These can be hurricane force winds.
New York City preparing for its first blizzard since 2016.
At least 700 salt spreaders at the ready, 1,000 emergency snow shovelers.
standing by and 2,000 snow plows ready to hit the roads. The mayor announcing schools will be
closed on Monday. This will be New York City's first old school snow day since 2019.
Boston's mayor declaring a snow emergency urging residents to stay home and announcing public
schools and offices will be closed Monday. We're seeing that the rate of snowfall could be
upwards of an inch, two inches an hour that will be white out conditions. And so we,
need everyone to just be inside, stay warm, stay safe, and let the plows do their work.
And this storm is having a major impact on air travel, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York
area airports effectively shut down later tonight through Monday.
Olivia Rubin, ABC News, New York.
All right, Chief Meteorologist Don Schwinnaker in for Cruz Medina tonight.
Thankfully, we don't have to deal with any of that, but we will be having to deal with
some cold temperatures at the very least after a couple of days of some warm weather.
The same system that's working up there as the one that brought us the rain today and a few snowflakes in our north and eastern counties.
Nothing you're going to have to shovel or even brush off.
It's very light right now.
Most of this is still rain live.
Look at our first alert Doppler net.
And this is shifting to the north and east and working its way out of here.
So let's show you what's happening with a live picture on the self-help sky cam looking into downtown Fayetteville right now.
43 degrees.
It has got chilly, mostly cloudy, although the skies are clearing.
Still some sun left in the sky.
We'll go from there to a live look in North Hills.
You can see the sky is clearing out those low-level clouds working through some pretty colors up there.
40 degrees right now in Raleigh on a mostly cloudy sky.
Temperatures from across the region, 33 Roanoke Rapids, 10 degrees warmer down of Fayetteville.
41 in Carborough, 39 in Durham, 39 in Smithfield.
Factor the winds in though.
We've got feels like temperatures in the 30s and even 20s.
26 now Roanoke's in Oxford.
Feels like it's 23.
Winter, not done yet.
And it'll be a cold one tonight.
These are actual temperatures, not feels like temperatures, down to 28 in Raleigh, Durham, 29 in Fayetteville.
Normal for this time of year is 35.
So this is well below average for this time of year.
And factor the winds in it will go into the teens tonight for those feels like temperatures.
All right.
Let's talk about the feels like temperatures tomorrow morning.
There's the teens I'm talking about 7 o'clock.
You're bundling the kids up to head to school.
It is going to be chilly and those wind chills stay in the 30s all day long.
will only be above freezing in the fields like temperatures for about five or six hours as we hit through your Monday.
Now here's the system pulling out of here.
You can see a little bit of white up here showing up.
Warren County, Northampton, Halifax counties, you've got the best chance of seeing any snowflakes fly.
We could see a few more on the back edge of this as it works out of here.
This is part of this system and this is a massive system.
Look at the snow already starting to fly just south of the Cape in Boston down into New York, Philadelphia, D.C., starting to see it mix in in and the back through.
Western Maryland tonight. So look at all the warnings out there. We've got winter storm warnings.
And I mentioned a blizzard warning for the entire state of New Jersey with white out conditions expected tomorrow.
Look at some of the snowfall totals. 18 inches New York City, 24 just south of Boston. So this is going to be a massive storm.
And it is going to ripple through the travel system. If you've got to fly tomorrow, make sure call ahead.
There could be delays, even though it's sunny around here. Forecast looks like this for tomorrow, 45 Raleigh, 44 Durham.
Fayetteville will see 46 degrees.
Your first alert seven-day forecast shows those temperatures back into the 40s on Tuesday.
Still cold, not as breezy.
Winds will die down finally.
Wednesday, 61 Thursday.
The canes come home after the Olympic break with three medalists in their team.
Should be a good night for a game, 65.
Friday 60, Saturday, 63, a little warmer.
And Sunday, 68 degrees, partly cloudy and pleasant conditions.
So looking like it will be a nice dry weekend next weekend after some wet weekends.
around here the past couple of weekends. Do I want to leave the umbrella in the rainboots right next to the door for a few more days. Thanks, Don. You got. Well, now to the
26 winter games. Here's a look at the medal count on this final day of the winter games in Italy, Norway,
continuing to lead the way with 41 total medals. Team USA sits in second place with 33 medals, including 12 gold,
after a big win by the U.S. men's hockey team today. And Kane's star, Jacob Slavin, securing his first gold medal.
