Kate Roderson and Trayvon Miles are on the road in the desert at Teammable Arena where Puck Drop is just two hours away. And back here at home, the Kaniacs are about to get loud from the Lenovo Center all the way to downtown Raleigh.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Kane's fever has taken over the triangle tonight. I witness news at 6. It all starts right now and the clock is ticking. We are just two hours away. Your Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights will return to the ice for game three of the Stanley Cup final. And tonight we are on the ice at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas just off of that famous trip. And while the fight on the ice is more than 2,100 miles away, Kaniaks are already getting the party started right back here at home. I want to go ahead and show you a live look at the Lenovo Center right now. You are watching eyewitness news at 6.
Starting point is 00:01:23 And again, thank you so much for joining us on this Saturday evening. Now tonight, it's game day. And ABC 11 is the place to be for the pregame fund and the action on the ice tonight. The Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Nights face off in game three of the Stanley Cup finals. And as mentioned, we do have live team coverage for you this half hour. Let's go ahead and start the fun tonight with Amber Rupenta. She is live first at the Lenovo Center where that party, Amber, is already getting started. We heard it the other day.
Starting point is 00:01:50 It's time to get lit at the Lennie. It sure is, DeWan. And happy game day here. Are we ready for game three? Are we ready for game three? You guys, I have the biggest, smallest fans here, and I actually pulled them out of the line for the bounce house because the party on the South Plaza is on.
Starting point is 00:02:13 It is going. You can hear the DJ behind us. They have the bounce house. They have Kona Ice, which is perfect for this hot day that we're having out here. It's really just the vibe to be out here on this game day while the canes are on the road, right? Driving in, so many people are already set up.
Starting point is 00:02:30 up here. They are already tailgating. I saw tents and people that look like they've already been out here for hours. Technically the doors opened for the parking at five, but everyone's out here. To get in the building, that starts at 7 o'clock, and of course, Puck Drop is at 8. We've got you cover here on ABC 11. Are you guys so excited? Quickly, just yell out your favorite players. Rod Wendon. Moore. Coach Brindamore. They all love Rod. Rod, are you listening? Sebastian Allho. Yeah. Fishing. Andahoe. Yeah, put some steak on it. We like to say around here. And Jarvis, Jarvis. Yeah, well, after game two, overtime, Jarvis. Everybody loves Jarvis, right? All right, so
Starting point is 00:03:10 we're going to do it tonight. They're going to feel our energy from Lenovo, right? You guys, what do you say? Let's go. All right, so those are the biggest, littlest fans. Let's go see how some of that tailgating. Tailgating is going. Let's check it with John Dowdy. He is finding some fun in the tailgating. Hey, John. Hey, Amber. I mean, we have seen people out here for hours. It doesn't matter that the game is in Vegas because that energy is alive. And you see it right here outside the Lenovo Center. I'm here with Dan from Garner. He and his family. You guys have been out here for hours today. You sure have. It's been a great time. You know, it's a beautiful day. The only thing that can make it better is if the team was here playing here in the arena. But I hope Jarvis, Ajo, Stahl, I hope all those guys are seeing us on TV right now. And they know that we're supporting them back here in Raleigh for game three. And I hope they can get the win tonight and maybe the win on Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:04:11 So hopefully we can get both these wins. Repeat what we did against Montreal. Absolutely. How have you been feeling the last two games real quickly? It's been a roller coaster of emotions. How are you doing going into tonight? I feel a lot better. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:04:26 During the second period of game two, I was, I was. at the lowest point. But came back quickly. For that third period was electrifying. We were out here in the Linovo Center Plaza. Beers were spraying. People were celebrating. I hugged.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I can't tell you how many guys I was hugging and jumping. And hopefully we'll see that again tonight. Hopefully we'll see that again tonight, but inside where it'll be a little colder. Absolutely. We'll let you guys go. You guys are going to get inside because that line is growing quickly outside the Lenovo Center here. Amber, you see it as well.
Starting point is 00:05:01 So many fans out here, like we said, it doesn't matter that we're here that the game is in Vegas because all the energy and excitement is right here in Raleigh. Amber, back to you. Yeah, this is going to be a really amazing watch party here tonight, John. Thank you. And that's how the adults are celebrating. We got the little's behind us. They are excited as well, cheering on the canes all the way from Raleigh out to Vegas, sit and some love. All right, as we said, it's perfect weather for tailgating.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Folks have been lined up out here for several hours now, getting the party started. Let's go to our friend. Kim, Dean, are so good to see you, Kim, in the studio. I know we're still looking for some rain, but right now, this is great that there's no rain. A great, there's no rain. Hi, Amber. Miss you, too. Certainly filling all the energy out at the Lenovo Center. Yes, sunshine for today, a little bit of high clouds moved in.
Starting point is 00:05:47 It was hot, but the humidity was low, making it for a great day and a perfect tailgating evening for the Carolina Hurricanes watch party where Amber and the rest of our colleagues are this afternoon. 94 was the high in Raleigh. be 85, so you can only imagine how nice it could be if temperatures weren't well above average. Tomorrow we're expecting a high of 98 and you can really see that trend of upper 90s staying in the forecast for the best part over the next seven days. 91 right now, but the reason it feels good out there, 55, that's the dew point. We're going to keep those lower dew points in the forecast not really changing how the temperatures feel, but that will change as we move into the next couple of days. I'll explain in just a few moments. Watching the canes outside, having
Starting point is 00:06:29 dinner outside, going to the Red Hat and seeing Khalid. Is that correct, Duane? Kalid. All right, got it. Coming up next, we're going to talk about more heat this week, get used to it. And unfortunately, I do not have good news, Duane when it comes to the chance of rain. All right, we are still looking for the rain, Kim. Don't worry, we had to look it up because there's DJ Khalid and Khalid.
Starting point is 00:06:51 So we had to look it up too. You are hip. We just had to double check. Thank you so much. So as we've been saying, Kim, this is the first time that Keynes have gone to this daily Cup final in 20 years. It's a long time coming and there's so much excitement around this. It's huge for the city. It's huge for the Cains. So we've been digging into our archive for some of that footage of that big win two decades ago. Check this out. This was the celebration.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And as you look closely amongst the confetti, you can see a young Rod Brenda were there. Of course, now coach and the fame of all the kids behind me. That's when he was the captain there holding up that Stanley Cup for the players. Really amazing. All right, they're hoping to have a of that scenario here in a couple of games. Let's head now out to Sin City. Trayvonne Kay, you guys made it. Live at Team Mobile in Vegas. The Keynes, I understand, are looking to win
Starting point is 00:07:44 another night. They're in the building. Hey, Amber, it sounds like quite the party where you are. Right now, it's very quiet. But this building isn't known to be quiet, Team Mobile Arena. It sounds like they have quite the pregame environment that makes it hard for opponents.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Yeah, I'm going to be honest. I'm missing what's going on after. Lenovo center right now. A little unimpressed by what we saw at T-Mobile Arena walking in here. Although we did get here kind of early, there wasn't as much fanfare, but we know it's Las Vegas. It's also a Saturday, but I am definitely expecting this place to get wild tonight. We're going to give you a look at what it looks like here at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Carolina Hurricanes come into game three, undefeated on the road this postseason, a perfect 6-0. Vegas on the other hand is 6-2 at home, and they've won three in a row in this building.
Starting point is 00:08:27 We caught up with some of the guys before the game about what it's like to play on the road and why they have success. Jordan Stahl says he loves to silence the crowd. Got it such a great atmosphere and a great vibe and it just makes the challenge to quiet them that much better. And it's just like such a different challenge, obviously, than being at home. But be on the road and giving a chance to try to quiet 20,000 people is a fun challenge. And you got to go out and they're enjoyed. As you know, the canes are undefeated on the road so far this postseason cape really have to be excited about the potential of what could happen tonight. When you talk about great hockey and two
Starting point is 00:09:07 of the best teams remaining in the league, this series has been excellent. The first game came down to a game winner in the last three minutes. Game number two, we already know how crazy that was. Fully expecting tonight to be a crazy environment. The canes know it's not going to be easy, but they wouldn't have it any other way. Coming here with this series, Todd, rather than the down two games, is huge momentum of the series and given the Carolina Hurricanes. A chance, Amber, as you mentioned, to try and raise that cup for the first time in 20 years. Puck drop here in Vegas about two hours away. We're expecting the canes to come up with a lot of energy in a building.
Starting point is 00:09:38 That's going to be probably a little rowdy. Back to you. Yeah, there's going to be a lot of energy there. And I think I speak for a lot of cany acts. Just don't mess with our anxiety tonight. Get it done early and get that W so we can look forward to a game four on Tuesday. Kate, Tray, Amber. Thanks so much.
Starting point is 00:09:55 All right. Next at six, an argument in Raleigh's Glenwood South District leads to gunshots overnight. what we're learning this evening about the shooting investigation now underway. Well, new details tonight in an early morning shooting in Raleigh. It happened at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and West Jones Street. Police tell us they found a man and a woman who had been shot around 1.45 this morning. They say two men had been arguing when one of the men shot the other. The woman who police say was an innocent bystander was also hit during the incident.
Starting point is 00:10:27 Both of the victims were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. According to court documents obtained by eyewitness news, 30-year-old Nashon Ramsey was arrested in connection. He's facing multiple charges tonight. In Samson County, we are learning more about a tragic mobile home fire that killed multiple dogs. It happened in the 1,200 block of Clayton Road and Godwin around 1245 this afternoon. It's still unclear tonight how that fire started or exactly how many dogs were inside
Starting point is 00:10:53 the home at the time. Well, next at six, a massive donation for the LGBT Center of Raleigh. The big check of the organization got today from the proceeds, raised at this year's y'all means all beer festival. And as we head for a quick time out, here is a live look at Raleigh's Smoky Hollow District, where those caniacs. Our Cane's fans are getting ready for game three of tonight's Stanley Cup final. All right welcome back. Right now, our coverage of the stand the cup final continues for you this half hour. The Carolina Hurricanes, as we said, on the road tonight in Las Vegas for game three. The puck dropping tonight at 8 o'clock
Starting point is 00:11:31 right here on ABC 11. And that excitement here at home, well, it is already at. That fever pitch, if you haven't already known that, let's get live out to Amber Repenta. She's at the Lenovo Center right now. Amber, look, I'm looking at all these folks here behind you, the big ones, the little ones. A lot of big fun happening there at the Lennie tonight. I mean, this is the place to be, and I recruited some help here. Tell us your name of your favorite player. Sophia Ajo 20.
Starting point is 00:11:58 And what's your name, sweetie? Adelaide. And I had some rally towels for them to throw up because the party's going on here. behind me, the doors open at 7 o'clock for this watch party. This is really exciting stuff here, right? Super exciting. All right, and this, they're gonna give you guys those new towels tonight, by the way.
Starting point is 00:12:17 But I should let everybody know too. Anyone going in here that got a ticket, this all benefits the Canes nonprofit, the Cain's Foundation. So it's all for a good cause. So already a win-win here tonight. Let's get those towels moving. And that's right, there's these watch parties
Starting point is 00:12:30 going on all around the area. Let's check in with Diane Wilson. She is over in Raleigh in the Smoky Hollow district with more on how it's going over there. Hi, Diane. Hi, Amber. You know, I am here in the Smoky Hollow District. I'm told this is a calm before the storm, right? But you guys, you can get rowdy, can't you? Oh, yeah. I mean, if they don't hear us at Caesar's Palace by the end of this game, we have failed as fans. Okay, so in Vegas, they're going to hear from you all here? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Brandon, now you told me you've been to some games and here, why are you watching it here?
Starting point is 00:13:00 Oh, I mean, you know, there's no game here, but, you know, we're all season ticket members. We've been watching for years and years and years. So this is a huge, you know, build up for us, finally getting to the final round and have a chance to win the Stanley Cup. I mean, this is, you know, how could you not go out to an event like this? I know. People have been putting their chairs out since 4.30 and you guys, let's hear a go cane. Let's go Keynes. Let's go! Hurricanes! The cheer started here, and as you can see, you know, they have about almost two hours towards game time, and there's little fans here also. Let me show you, that was a great sure how the little fans are staying active we got a little hockey player here and look at these
Starting point is 00:13:43 little girls here they are playing we got a cheerleader i'm told and then these two girls who can score a goal oh i hope that's what happens when the hurricanes play vaga so are you a big fan yeah let me hear you guys say cheer all right we are ready here in the smoky hollow district back to you all right proof that no matter your age you can still be a canyac so amber and diane thank you so looking forward to game three tonight. All right, new tonight, the LGBT Center of Raleigh, receiving a major donation. Organizers of the Y'all Means All Beer Festival,
Starting point is 00:14:24 presenting the center with a donation of more than $12,000 this afternoon at the Raleigh Brewing Company's Pride event. The money coming from the inaugural beer festival, which was held back in April. All right, Kim Diener is in tonight for Cruz Medina. And if you've been outside, look, it was a warm one. I spent outside a little bit today with some church folks, and I was like, yo, this is hot today.
Starting point is 00:14:44 thankfully I have my water and you're saying you've got some bad news unfortunately. I know it's only going to get hotter and it's only going to stay dry. So really not a lot of good news. But let's talk about the fact that we have those low humidities right now. That's what's made today very variable and that's what's going to make tonight a great night for watching the canes outdoors or really doing anything outdoors. But tomorrow we're going to talk about flirting with 100 degrees. That's the record to beat at RDU. There is a chance we will beat that tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:15:10 We're going to see that increase in humidity as we move into the latter part of the work with. and that's going to mean that heat-related illness will go to a high. So we're really talking about some problematic weather as we end the week. And the worst part is a very low chance of rain. It doesn't look like a very good chance of rain over the next five days and that's very unfortunate. We need it. You add that to the fact that look at these temperatures.
Starting point is 00:15:33 We're talking about most of the next 10 days being well above average with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Right now we're sitting at 90 degrees. Temperatures will slowly drop throughout the evening. That's why it's going to make a great evening for being outdoors, especially when you factor in that 2.55 degrees. That's comfortable. Now we are going to have a backdoor cold front that's going to move through on Monday.
Starting point is 00:15:54 That won't do much in the way of keeping temperatures down, but what it is going to do is give us a brief relief from the heat for one day. And then the humidity returns. So let's look at that seven-day forecast because it's very important, especially if you have any plans outdoors or you work outdoors, a near record high for tomorrow of 98 degrees, 100 to beat at RDU. A stray storm just south of the triangle, this isolated chance. There's that little bit of cooler weather, only being 89 to 1.
Starting point is 00:16:21 That is not cool. And then when you look at Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I want to note, we're going to talk about a really big chance of heat-related illnesses as we had out of the work week. So that's going to be the next news, including that the drought's going to be worst, Juan. Some high 90s there. Thanks so much, Kim. Well, coming up, game time is coming soon. And with the canes on the road tonight, we are looking at how much a trip to Sin City would cost you to attend. And let's go ahead and get you back out to the Lenovo Center right now, a live look ahead of the action for game three.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Fans gathering there at the line for a big old watch party tonight for game three. Welcome back in a little more than 90 minutes. The puck will drop inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for game three. And inside that arena, there will be a number of Kaniaks who made the trip from the triangle all in support of the team. And with ticket prices for just one game inside T-Mobile starting at close to $1,000, we just see. decided to take a look at how much a trip to the game could cost you. Some are describing it as the trip of a lifetime. The opportunity to attend at least one game during the Cain's run to win the Stanley Cup.
Starting point is 00:17:28 And it all became too real after the team took down the Canadians in the Eastern Conference final. When we won, I think we were all crying. There's a big group shot and we're all hugging about it. And we were like, we're going to Vegas. So these group of friends put their power play in motion. We knew that we wanted to be to get every bit of the experience. of being in the Stanley Cup finals. Other fans like Niall Roberts, part of the Kane Evil's crew, as seen here in their Sin City style jumpsuits, didn't even have to think twice of their decision ahead
Starting point is 00:17:55 west. No brainer at all. So these suits actually originated in Vegas, and a guy's trip in March Maddenous three years ago. We decided we'd become the Cane Evils after that trip. So this is where they were born and this is where we're going to win the cup. So we did some math and crunch the numbers for you if you're looking to head to any other Vegas games. Let's start with airfare. The prices we found And ahead of game three tonight range from 720 to 1040 round trip, according to kayak. A two-night hotel stay at MGM Grand, 420 to 570. And tickets for the actual game, you'll be spending at least $1,700. And of course, money for ride share and food.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Looking at a low end cost of $3,200 to more than $6,100 if you're down to splurge. If it was the Super Bowl, nobody would question the amount of money it costs to go. And I've been to a Super Bowl, a World Series. This is my first Stanley Cup. And this is the best. The overarching theme for these Keynes fans, the moments that mean the most don't come with price tax. You only live once, man. I've had friends that have passed away from car accidents, from cancer, from whatever.
Starting point is 00:19:02 You never know what tomorrow is going to bring. So you've got to live in the moment. You've got to live in the day. We're in the Stanley Cup. You've got to take the opportunity to be there, support the team. Money is just money. Experience is everything. And on that note, that's going to do it for this half hour tonight at 6.
Starting point is 00:19:16 We will see you right back at here at 11 o'clock after game three of the Stanley Cup final between your Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights. And remember to watch Chasing the Cup at all airs tonight at 7 o'clock right here on ABC 11 and wherever you stream. Go Keynes.
