Right now, live coverage from your local news leader, breaking stories from overnight and this morning, and your first alert forecast.
Here's what's happening where you live. This is ABC 11 eyewitness news.
Good Saturday morning, Carolina. I'm Bianca Holman. It's April 18th this morning on eyewitness news.
Gunshots ringing out at Triangle Town Center, Raleigh shoppers running for cover what we know about the three people injured and the search for the suspects.
A local college student injured in a hit and run, how the community is rallying behind him during his recovery.
Plus, we're counting down to the puck drop.
The Carolina Hurricanes hitting the ice for round one, game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs, how you can see the canes in action.
Let's go ahead and take a live look at the Raleigh Skyline on this Saturday morning.
Looking pretty good out there.
It is a warm one.
Of course, you have plans to be outside.
You're out there walking the pubs doing, if you are doing yard work, it's very limited.
because it's so dry out, Steve.
It is, yeah.
Keep that grass as tall as you can.
You know, it helps in drought situations like this.
Outside right now, as you see, those couple high clouds that are passing on by.
We're going to see our numbers climbing today all the way up to the low 90s, not quite record
territory, but getting up there.
So it's a hot day, but not terribly humid out there.
Yesterday we topped out at 88 and 95 and 30 are the records.
And that deficit now approaching two inches.
We'll go past that two inches, possibly tomorrow.
We're not going to get a lot of rain tomorrow.
But it's starting to look like just about every month we've had really for the last eight months with the exception of February.
And so the dryness is going to continue, unfortunately.
Most models have us in just a few hundreds of an inch.
The North America model, a little bullish here.
That'd be nice.
But I think most areas a tenth of an inch or less tomorrow when the showers move in.
Hot out there as we go through the day today, if you're getting some gardening done or some yard work,
I would do it earlier in the day.
Not terribly hot because humidity values won't be high.
So we're not going to have a heat index where it feels like.
the upper 90s, not like a typical summer day where we have those 90s.
69 at RTE right now, partly cloudy skies out there.
Do point at 57.
Widespread temperatures now in the 60s, although Siler City is 73, same thing in Southern Pines,
and Clinton currently at 70.
Head now for this evening, going to the D-PAC, 88 as you're walking in when you head back home,
a pleasant 75 degrees and relatively low humidity.
Couple days next week, we're going to have some cooler temperatures.
More on that coming up in just a few minutes.
All right, Steve, thank you. Now the chaos bringing out at the Raleigh Shopping Mall,
three people are recovering after a shooting inside Triangle Town Center.
So it all started yesterday afternoon near the express store.
Police say a group of juveniles met up at the mall.
They got into an argument with someone working at the mall and then things turned violence.
Shoppers we spoke to say they ran for cover when they heard gunshots.
It just sounded like, you know, pop, pop, pop, pop.
And we just, we knew right away where it was.
So we just grabbed everybody and went to the back, close the barrel.
I've locked the bathroom door and just stayed in there.
I called 911.
When officers arrive, they say several individuals fled from the mall.
Eyewitness news spotted these crews out there and police and tactical gear with canines
searching in a wooded area near Hilton Garden Inn.
We're told so far no arrests have been made.
In Cumberland County, a man is dead after getting shot in Fayetteville.
Deputies responded to this mobile home park off Jacqueline Row Friday evening.
They found the victim with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead there at the scene.
So far, no one.
has been arrested. Friends and family and co-workers are coming together to support an NC
state student who was badly injured by a hit and run driver. Braden Bulger was in South Carolina with his
fraternity brothers when he was hit by a car. Burden has a traumatic brain injury but we're told
is responsive. Last night the North Street beer station or Braden works had a fundraiser for him.
The bar is also selling t-shirts with 15% of all proceeds helping to pay his medical bills.
We spoke to Braden's older brother who says the support from the community has been overwhelming.
I mean, the money that's coming in for him, it's more than we could have ever asked for.
And he's going to love that when he sees that.
I look forward to seeing him back and better than ever.
We'll get back out there on the golf course.
He's going to be good.
I just can't wait to be back to our normal life for my brother.
And be sure to you, we will keep you updated on how much money they raise both on air and online.
Turning now to sports here at 904 this Saturday morning.
We are counting down to the start.
of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Today, the Carolina Hurricanes are going to take on the Ottawa Senators in round one, game one ahead of the 3.30 matchup.
IWitness News sat down with Kiann Miller, as he told Trayvon Miles.
He shares how the Keynes handled playoffs.
I think for my time over in New York, I think playing North Carolina and the Keynes in the playoffs was the toughest series I think I can think back on.
I think the fans themselves just coming into each game.
As an opponent, you're not even able to think.
You feel the whole building shaking beneath your feet,
and it's a really tough place to play.
But, you know, I'm super excited to get the opportunity to play here,
play off hockey and Raleigh for the first time.
A lot of people when they come here
and say they want to play for Rob Bremor.
What's it been like in the year under his tutelage?
My first couple of years, I've had a little bit of a tough goal
with having a head coach that's staying.
in that head coach role. So I think having that security with Rod has been amazing. I mean,
obviously he's done such a good job building this program to what it's been and the success
he has within that locker room is unreal. I mean, everybody comes in each day, willing to get better
and really pushing each other to take that next step. Obviously coming from New York,
things are a lot different. It's like, good thing for you, that things are slower, obviously,
the media market's a little bit different. It's definitely a breath of fresh air.
You know, you get caught up in New York media a little bit.
It's been nice to, you know, kind of chill out a little bit down here.
And I'm not really worried about the media and get to really focus on my hockey and my family.
So it's been fun.
Do you think people outside of this locker room, maybe sleeping on you guys as the top team in the Eastern Conference,
do you think that motivates you guys or is it, you know, you got to kind of earn your stripes?
You can do all these great things during the regular
season but I almost think of the regular season and postseason is two
different two completely different games almost even yeah we had success in a
long regular season yeah we were able to put up a good amount of points and
come in first or whatever but honestly all that stuff drops I think talent can
only get you so far honestly I think it's gonna matter most and just kind of
bringing it each night who wants it more at the end of the night at the end of
those 60 minutes so I think just coming to the rink knowing that we
still got to put in the work and nothing's going to be handed to us.
We've got to work for it.
That was our Trayvon Miles reporting.
And if you plan on attending today's game at the Lenovo Center here, a couple of notes to remember.
The parking lot opens at noon, doors open at 1.30.
The team says the pregame celebrity siren sounder will be new NC State men's basketball coach, Justin Ganey.
And if you can't make it inside the Lenovo Center, of course, you can always watch game one on ESPN.
Today, the Blue Devils getting warmed up for their 2026 football season.
The team taken to the field for their blue and white spring game.
Last season, their head coach, Manny Diaz, led the Blue Devils to the 9-5 record.
Today's spring kickoff game is less than an hour at 10 o'clock.
The Blue Devils open 2026 at home, welcoming Tulane on September 5th.
Still ahead, celebrating Earth's Month, the Eco-friendly Festival happening in Raleigh today.
And North Carolina made a unique comfort.
in Granville County, customizing chicken coops.
They're gaining nationwide attention.
Plus dealing with this drought, the new water restrictions in Raleigh.
But first, a check of today's weather.
Hey, Steve.
Hey there, Bianca.
Good morning, everybody.
We're warming up quickly.
Temperatures near 70 degrees in Raleigh, Durham and Fayetteville at 68.
Roxborough 63 here come to 90s again.

This is First Alert Weather from ABC 11, I Witness News.
Welcome back everybody. Good morning to you. Yeah, another hot one today. We'll get up there in the high 80s and low 90s, plenty of sunshine. We'll get mixed with some passing clouds at times as we go throughout the day today. We look upstream and you see a front with some showers. That front is going to be here tomorrow, but not as much rain. So we're just going to get a little tiny bit of rain. Get the yard work done early if he can. We'll get up there around 90 or so between 2 and 6 p.m. going to be up there, but not terribly humid at all. Due points are going to be fairly low for us. So it's not going to feel.
feel that hot.
69 degrees in the North Hills, not much of a breeze at all out there.
69 Rocky Mount, 68 in Goldsboro, 70 in Clinton and Southern Pines and Siler City, both at
73 degrees at this hour.
How about some baseball out in Wilson, the Warbirds in Hill City, 88 degrees before when you
leave the Wilson complex at about 75 degrees.
Should be just fine.
Showers and thunderstorms here from Dallas all the way up through the Tennessee Valley and
into the Ohio Valley.
Chicago's good.
Denver's good.
The West Coast looks fine.
Dallas gets some rain, but likely not enough to cause delays.
And so far this morning, we're looking pretty good.
Got your seven day coming up in just a few minutes, Bianca.
All right, Steve, we'll see in a moment.
Today, a big event happening in Raleigh celebrating our planet.

The fund runs from noon to six with an after party going until 10.
A show of progress for potential homebuyers.
New data reveals a drop in mortgage rates.
The details ahead.
But first mixed messages about the war with Iran, the White House and Iranian leaders,
posting opposing views about the state of negotiations.
We'll break down the latest settlement.
We are local news.
ABC 11 eyewitness news continues now.
New details on the war with Iran as the ceasefire is set to expire in just a few.
days. So this morning the U.S. and Iran continuing negotiations, but the two sides are telling
very different stories. President Trump says we are close to ending the war and that Iran has
agreed to everything. But overnight, Iran's top negotiator fired back on social media calling
Trump's claims false. The U.S. and Iran have failed to reach a deal on how long Iran would
suspend uranium enrichment. The Strait of Hormuz is also at the center of the standoff.
The White House says the strait is fully open, but President Trump says the U.S. Navy
blockade of Iranian ports ends after a deal is signed, a second round of talks could happen as
early as Monday. Developing now the acting director of U.S. Immigration's Customs Enforcement is
planning to leave his post as acting director Todd Lyons oversaw the largest expansion of ICE in
U.S. history. Lyons' last day is May 31st. President Trump announcing his nominee to lead the CDC
in his statement on social media, Trump nominating Dr. Erica Schwartz. Schwartz served as Trump's deputy
surgeon general in his first term. She also served as rear admiral in the Coast Guard and spent
24 years in the U.S. Public Health Service Commission Corps. The CDC has been without a permanent
director since August, which will have to be confirmed by the Senate for the role. Giving an eye
on the economy mortgage rates now the cheapest they've been in a month. According to Freddie Mac,
the nationwide average for a 30-year home loan has fallen to 6.3%. That's a four-week low. One
year ago, it was over 6.8%. Turning now to lingering effects on the ongoing drought, residents
and businesses across Wake County bracing for the start of water restrictions. Stage one goes into
effect on Monday for Raleigh water customers. That includes people in Garner, Nightdale, Roseville,
Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulin. People who lived in, or who actually live in odd number
addresses can water on Tuesdays, and those an even numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays.
For a full list of those details and restrictions, be sure to read the
article on ABC11.com.
Ugh.
Something to deal with, you know, but it is clear.
So if you want to go out and enjoy the weather,
we have so many festivals happening this weekend
and races and runs and all the things.
So time to be outdoors.
Yeah, time to be outdoors.
Tomorrow's going to be a little shock to the system
after all these days in the 80s and 90s
to go back to midday tomorrow, we could fall to the 50s.
So what?
50s.
And we'll start around 70, but we're going to come down at
front that moves on through pretty impressive as far as the cold air infection coming in unfortunately there's just really not much moisture to work with so the rain's going to be very light but today another hot one we'll get up there the low 90s for most upper 80s in our northern counties temperatures drop tomorrow starting in the morning upper 60s then those numbers will come down spotty light rain not everyone's going to get it but there'll be some showers around and then early next week more seasonable for at least a couple of days in the low 70s then we'll moderate back to the
the 80s and maybe upper 80s by the time we get to the end of the week.
But again, humidity values stay low this week.
Showers out there across the pushing into the Ohio Valley and the Tennessee valleys.
That's the front that's coming our way for tomorrow and most of the action for us around the triangle likely going to be in the morning to midday hours.
Maybe some family fun.
It'll be a hot one today.
Get the old slip and slide going as we climb to those 90s.
Don't forget the sunscreen.
Sun's pretty strong today.
So as we go into the morning hours, we'll be in those upper 60s.
Variably cloudy skies.
And then there's a band of showers coming and notice how the temperatures are going to be dropping as that shower moves in into the mid-50s.
The breeze is going to pick up as well coming in from the north and west.
But that's it for rain.
Once it moves past your community, it's over with.
And then we're going to be dry for another long stretch.
Don't expect much.
Most of the globals, some of them showing nothing.
The North America model about third of an inch that seems to be a bit overdone.
So likely a tenth of an inch or less, not really going to be.
going to help out at all with the drought.
69 into North Hills right now.
Not much of a breeze at all.
Feels pretty good out there with dew points in the 50s.
68 into Oxford, 73 into Silas City in Southern Pines.
And Fayetteville at 68 degrees.
Cain's kicking off the playoffs this afternoon.
As you're walking into Lenovo Center, about 89,
similar temperature when you head back to your car,
hoping for a victory today against a tough team.
70 on our Monday, it'll be breezy at times,
But a refreshing breeze.
The air is really going to be dry.
Then as we go into our Tuesday, it'll be chilly in the morning.
Some outlying areas might start out in the 30s.
We'll make it to around 70 again later in the afternoon hours.
Heading up to the mountains today looking good.
Mid-80s in the southern mountains, about 80 up in Boone today.
And the beaches will be in the high 70s to near 80 as well.
And looking just fine if you're heading in that direction.
Hot here locally, upper 80s and some low 90s for highs.
A sun cloud mix as we go through the afternoon.
More clouds around later on tonight and lows in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
And that 70 is going to be in the morning.
Temperatures are going to come down.
We get a few spotty light showers.
Tuesday morning, a bit chilly.
Earth Day, we're back to the 80s and we're flirting with 90 as we finish the work week.
All right, Steve, thank you.

Here's what's happening where you live.
This is ABC 11 eyewitness news.
It is 929 and there's a look, a live look at Wrightsville Beach, and the crowd is out there.
They've already staked their claim there in the sand.
Good morning, Carolina.
It's Saturday, April 18th.
I'm Bianca Holman.
You're watching eyewitness news here on ABC 11 and where you stream.
The top stories in all the day's news is just ahead.
But first, we got to talk about this beautiful weather because people are out at the beach, and that's where I want to be ste.
Yeah, that water looks gorgeous.
I know.
It looks amazing.
Yeah, so folks are, yeah, getting up, you can see, again, you can see some folks walking to the beach and some kids already out there.
It feels feeling decent and warm.
And around here, yeah, it's going to be hot, but it's not going to be like a summer 90, right?
I mean, the dew point's going to be down.
And that's kind of what we've been dealing with for a while.
That'll be the case again today.
Still would be hot, though.
Don't, don't kid yourself.
Outside right now, we've got some passing clouds around.
The high today getting all the way up to 92 degrees.
The normal highs at 74.
So well above that, not quite.
record territory. That's going to be 95.
Wouldn't be surprised of RDU spiked and got up there, but we're going low 90s for the most
part. There's the problem. The deficit about two inches starting to look like every month we've
had for the last eight months with the exception of February. So very dry out there.
We're not going to get much rain. Likely less than a tenth of an inch. Some of the global's
not showing anything at all at RDU and the North America Mall a little bit on the bullish side.
But we will get some scattered showers in Central North Carolina tomorrow. Get some of the
gardening work done now until around noon. Once we get to the afternoon, a touch hot,
but again, not overly humid, bit of a breeze at times. It'll help out. And we'll see some passing
clouds. We'll call it partly cloudy this afternoon. Sixty nine degrees at North Hills right now,
about a degree cooler than yesterday. Not much of a breeze out there. Wisprayed temperatures in the
upper 60s and a few areas now touching 70 with Silas City, the warm spot all the way up to 76
degrees. If you have evening plans, heading to the Deepak tonight near 90s you're walking in.
and a very comfortable mid-70s when you head back to your car.
We will cool down next week, at least for a couple of days.
More on that coming up in just a few minutes, Bianca.
All right, Steve, thank you.
The man charged in last month's deadly shooting at a Raleigh Nightclub made his first court
appearance on Friday.
Giovanni Hernandez-Aremio is accused of shooting and killing 33-year-old Jorge Durantes Cananda
at the patio nightclub on Newburn Avenue back in March.
Federal agents later found him hiding out at a home in Houston.
He was given no bond, and his next court date is.
May 7th. Happening today a memorial service being held for the former Miss North
Carolina Kerry Everett. Our family says that the 22-year-old passed away on
Easter Sunday after a battle with an aggressive cancer. Today's memorial service
will be held in Everett's home state of Washington. The family says the
North Carolina service will happen at a later date before Everett's remains are
taken to Africa where she will be laid to rest in Liberia. Now to your voice,
your vote the State Board of Elections will begin sharing voter data with the
Department of Homeland Security
The board approved the move and a three to two party line vote.
The rules will now allow DHS to run voters' personal information through a federal program intended to find non-citizens on the state's voter role.
People in favor say it will find ineligible voters, however critics call it unnecessary.
We're learning some local school districts are closing on May 1st as the North Carolina Association of Educators is encouraging teachers to call out for work that day.
Teachers are planning to rally at the state legislature calling for more funding for public education.
The Chapel Hill Carborough School Board voted to make May 1st a teacher workday.
It comes just days after Chatham School Board voted to close school on May 1st.
So we'll keep you updated as more school districts make decisions about how to handle that date.
This week, our North Carolina Made series takes us out the Granville County where a family-owned Carolina coop is putting all of its eggs into one basket,
at hand-crafting chicken coops and shipping them around the world.
Here's Amber Repenta.
Look, look, look, we got a girl in there laying her eggs.
Huh, isn't that beautiful?
You could say founder Matt Du Bois is scrappy.
Every business in the beginning should be hard.
He built his first chicken coop from scrap metal in Durham in 2009,
a side hustle during the downturn.
We were just in survival mode.
One of my happiest moments was when I was in a dumpster trying to find something I needed.
And today, that hustle has grown into a global business, Carolina Coot.
It all really started to come together as a custom coop, and the next thing I know, everyone's asking, like, can I have that? Can I have that? So we just started the mass produce it.
The high-end custom coops are built for anyone.
They are very, very functional. Our coops make it so that anyone can have chickens. It's very easy from the ventilation to the water system to the food system.
From first-timers to homesteaders. The number one most important part about the backyard chicken is size.
Number two, the quality of the materials that we use and all of our coops is very high-end.
Even celebrities are calling.
We just did a coop from Mike Tyson, and I'm a huge Mike Tyson fan.
That was huge.
And after passing on appearing on ABC Shark Tank, one of the sharks called.
Damon John, they reached out to us to help them with their chicken coops up at his farm, up in upstate New York.
Absolutely loves it.
And now he's mentoring the business.
In return, he is helping mentor us with parts of the business that I want help with.
And the biggest one, to be honest with you, is marketing.
Du Bois says what sets these coops apart is.
this? They're absolutely gorgeous. Why not have a chicken coop that you can show off? And this is a
big selling point. You only have to clean out your hen house a minimum once a year is huge because of the
deep litter system. The goal? Build coops that last and give back to a community that helped
Carolina Coops take flight. The local Granville economic development helped so much. When you're
in business, you don't forget these things. And that's why I'm so happy now to be able to give back
to our local community, whether it's to schools or creating jobs, which is huge.
Proud of what they've built and proudly NC made.
We have some world famous customers, and I like to brag about how we put North Carolina
on the map, no matter where we go on this planet with our coops.
And that was our Amber Rapinta reporting.
So new this morning, Coverland County hosting, it's your Vax Your Pet, Vax Yourself
Event. It's happening today.
It's started already.
It wraps up at noon at the public health system.
Center on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville.
Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be available for just $5 per pet.
And you can roll up your sleeve for the flu, COVID and MMR vaccines.
Only cash will be accepted as payment.
Well now to the Make a Wish community coming together for World Wish Month to help bring joy to children who are dealing with critical illnesses.
And that includes a 14-year-old from right here in the triangle.
He's from Durham who's battering lymphoma.
And so Jimmy is from Durham.
and Jimmy is one of 26 kids who are in Las Vegas right now for WrestleMania weekend.
Each Wish Kid is getting their own private shopping experience at the WWE World Store,
a superstore that they have there.
And they're also going to get their own superstar entrance where each child is surprised
and announced by WWE Stars.
And next week, thousands are going to hit the streets here in Raleigh for the annual ALS Walk.
Registration is open for anyone who wants to join our ABC 11 Stogner Strong Team.
ALS walks takes place next Saturday, April 25th at Halifax Mall.
We hope to see you there.
This morning, Trader Joe's settlement, the grocery store agreeing to pay out more than $7 million,
who qualifies for the compensation.
A heads up for moviegoers, AMC, raising the price of its membership fee.
The changes coming this summer.
And later, severe storms hammering the heartland a look at tornado damage across central U.S.
But first, we're taking a little closer to home.
Hey, Steve.
Yeah, he there, Bianca.
Good morning, everybody.
Starting to warm up already with temperatures near 70 around the triangle.
Mid-70s there in Goldsboro already.
We'll have highs getting up there.
We're going to be hot in the lower 90s.
Big change tomorrow, though, all the details after the break.

C-11 I Witness News.
Good morning, everyone.
I'm first alert meteorologist Steve Stewart.
Boy, today is going to be another hot one.
Here we go with numbers near 90 in our northern counties and low 90s in the triangle
on the sand hills.
The average high temperatures at 74, so well above that.
You see a front upstream.
That's coming our way for tomorrow.
It's going to lose a lot of the moisture, though, as it moves across the mountains.
We'll get some spotty light showers tomorrow.
The bigger stories, the temperatures are going to be going down.
Matter of fact, we'll start near 70 and we'll come down to the 50.
and we'll come down to the 50s midday.
Today, though, we get up there around 90s.
We go through the afternoon for a few hours.
Might see a few more passing clouds at times this afternoon,
but overall not terrible out there because the dew point should stay in the 50s today.
So it's not going to feel that sticky like it typically would if you had temperatures up around 90.
North Hills at 69 right now with some passing clouds.
Everybody in the upper 60s and lower 70s, but Oxford 75,
Silas City now at 78 and Southern Pines at 73 degrees.
Heading out to Wilson to watch the warm birds today. Again, first pitch at around 705 as you're walking into the stadium about 88 when you leave the complex there in Wilson at 75 degrees.
Should be a really nice evening for baseball or whatever you have planned.
Showers and thunderstorms from Dallas all the way across the Tennessee and Ohio valleys today.
Elsewhere looks pretty good for travel and we're not seeing delays at this hour at the major hubs.
Got your 7A coming up in a few minutes, Bianca.
All right, Steve, thank you. Attention shoppers. Trader Joe's could owe you money.
The grocery chain has agreed to a $7.4 million settlement over claims receipts showed too many digits from customers' credit and debit cards.
So if you made a purchase between March and July of 2019, you may be eligible for a payout.
The company denies any wrongdoing but says it's settled to avoid a lengthy legal fight.
Customers have until June 6 to submit a claim, even if you didn't experience identity theft.
AMC theaters is increasing the price of its movie subscription service.
and AMC Stubbs A-List membership lets people reserved, gets reserved tickets for up to four movies every week.
There are also some other perks like upgraded some popcorns and drinks.
The theater chain says in mid-July, the subscription price will go up by $2.
And so the result will be $2.99 a month.
And so they say the hike is due to higher cost to operate their theaters.
Coming up, new details on the search for Nancy Guthrie.
The FBI analyzing new data.
sample, what it could reveal about her disappearance, plus an update on the jailbreak in New Orleans
that led to a nationwide search when those inmates are expected to stand trial.
We are local news. ABC 11 eyewitness news continues now.
In Louisiana, a trial date has been said for the eight of the ten inmates who you see him right
there, escape from the New Orleans Justice Center last May. The trial has been scheduled for
mid-September two other inmates who had been previously found incompetent to stand trial.
are undergoing treatment at a state prison.
All are charged with simple escape.
Authorities say the inmates escape through a hole from a ripped out toilet in a cell pod.
A maintenance worker has been charged in connection to this escape as well.
Now to an update in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the FBI now analyzing data recovered from Guthrie's home in Tucson, Arizona.
The 84-year-old mother of today's show host Savannah Guthrie was abducted from our home on February 1st.
A private lab that works with the Pima County Sheriff's Office sent a sent a seven-year-old mother.
sample to the FBI. The agency is using new technology to conduct advanced analysis on that DNA sample
to see if it can lead to Nancy's kidnapper. Turning now to the weather and severe conditions
hitting the middle of the country this morning millions on alert as dangerous storms threaten
tornadoes damaging winds and flash flooding ABC's Michelle Frenzen as the latest. A.B.C.'s, Michelle Frenzen,
as the latest. A powerful spring storm pounding the heartland. At least 28 tornadoes confirmed
across nine states with more than 35 million people under alerts.
From Texas to Wisconsin, tornadoes touching down, baseball size hail, and flash flooding,
homes damaged and roadways washed out. Along with massive, destructive hail and straight-line winds,
days of reinforcing rivers to rise far beyond their banks. Take a look at this video showing
the moment a tornado tour through Clinton, Missouri, debris flying as the storms move
through. In Bedford, Ohio, right outside Cleveland, this car dealership now cleaning up from
tornadoes and pounding hail. Just absolute anarchy is really all I can say. It was almost scary,
to be honest with you. And the flood threat continuing to grow near Grand Rapids, Michigan,
crews pulling a car from a sinkhole after a road gave way. Just west of Rockford, Illinois,
reports of children trapped at a school in the town of Lena. After a reported tornado,
there and overnight. Heavy rain moving into areas of Wisconsin and Michigan still dealing with
flooding, raising the risk of additional water levels as the system lingers. Michelle Franzen,
ABC News, New York.
All right, check on your family and friends living there in the middle of the country,
experiencing some severe weather, and we got our own severe weather, the drought conditions.
Yeah, yeah, we do. It takes a long time to get to the stage that we're at now. About eight months?
Exactly. You know, it's been so dry. So it's going to take a while to get out of this.
unfortunately. Outside right now though it is pretty nice. Temperatures warming up.
You're taking that walk. We're going to get up there though. It's going to be a hot
afternoon at around 92 degrees. Typically our 90s though in the summertime, very
humid. Not going to be that humid today. And the warmth that we get later in the
week back to the 80s not going to be humid either. So just keep that in mind.
Temperatures fall tomorrow. You might wake up to some upper 60s and then the numbers
come down to the 50s midday. We'll get spotty light rain. Not everyone's going to get
rain and it's not going to add up to much.
at all probably a tenth of an inch or less. Early next week will be more seasonal. A couple
days will be in the 70s and then we're going to go back to the 80s and near 90 Friday,
but if you believe the euro, dew points in the afternoon with the peak heating will be in the
40s, so it's not going to feel that bad at all. There you see the showers that are moving across
the Tennessee and the Ohio valleys. That is going to be coming our way for tomorrow, but a lot of
the moisture gets used up as it gets closer to the mountains. Today, though, how about some family
fun in the old backyard? Get the slip and slide out. It's a hot,
Don't forget the sunscreen UV index is up there.
Are there about an eight for today?
So that's pretty strong with a higher sun angle.
Tomorrow morning, we're in the 60s to near 70.
And then once we get going to around 10 o'clock in the morning,
we'll see some showers coming in.
The front has already moved on by.
And notice the temperatures will be coming down.
So we'll get down to the 50s, get a few spotty showers,
rains long gone, and we'll recover those temperatures,
maybe back to the lower 60s as we get going into the afternoon.
But a far cry from the 90s.
How much rain? Most guidance and not that excited at all. 10th of an inch or less.
A lot of goose eggs here. The North American model, a little bullish.
I think that's a bit overdone, as it sometimes can do.
69 degrees in the North Hills, not much of a breeze at all.
Dew points are in the 50s.
Feels pretty good out there.
75 Oxford, 71 Sanford, Silor City, the warm spot at 78.
By the way, some of these sensors update hourly.
Others update every 15 minutes.
That's why you see a range of numbers there.
And the canes getting the playoff started today at 3 o'clock as you're walking into Lenovo center, upper 80s, about 90 by the time you head back to your car after the game.
And hopefully we'll get a victory and we'll see some more clouds at times later today.
70 on our Monday will be cooler. That breeze will feel nice and refreshing.
Really chilly Tuesday morning. Some outlying areas could be in the upper 30s.
We'll get to 71 in the afternoon. And then we'll start to moderate the temperatures again back to the 80s starting Wednesday.
Mid-80s in the southern mountains today, 70s around moon and blowing rock.
Beaches looking good today with numbers in the mid-upper 70s and lots of sunshine.
Our high temperatures for today will likely make it to the lower 90s, 80s up in our northern counties and partly cloudy.
Tonight maybe some more clouds later on and mild in the upper 60s.
First of all at 70, about a 70 for a high, but temperatures will fall tomorrow.
It's not going to feel like 70 and the breeze will pick up as well.
Spotty light rain.
70 on Monday, the cane second game, a chilly start Tuesday morning, and then right back to the 80s, starting Wednesday on Earth Day and flirting with 90 Friday. We'll be back after this.
