This is ABC 11 eyewitness news. Good morning, Carolina. I'm Bianca Holman. It's Sunday, September 20th. This morning on eyewitness news, we are tracking breaking news in Cumberland County, a shooting overnight and a serious crash on the I-95. Our crew at both scenes gathering detail. Plus ice activity in North Carolina, the new data revealing how many people have been detained and the impacts on communities here in the triangle. And a warmer end to your weekend. We've got a first alert to a big cool down, though, happening this week. So let's go ahead and check in with meteorologist Kim Dina filling in for Steve Stewart this morning. So whatever you have to do outside, get it done today because tomorrow we've got rain.

We have a chance of rain moving in late tomorrow afternoon. But yes, get out today and get out early because it's going to be hot again today. That's my advice. If you've got yard work to do, you'd rather do it when it's not 91 degrees. And that's what we are going to see temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s later on today. We have a cold front that's moving in our direction. This cold front along with an area of low pressure that's going to form off our coast is going to keep us in an unsettled weather pattern as we head into the better part of the work week.

We need the rain. We're two inches below where we should be this time of month. So it will be a welcome rain if we see it or if we see it. or if we see as much as models are predicting. 90 is the high for today. Wins out of the southwest at 7 miles an hour. 89 is what we saw yesterday. The record to beat 96.

We're not gonna come close to that, and that's good news. Unsettled weather pattern though, beginning during the day tomorrow, late in the afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then we really start to feel like fall. So this afternoon, if you have golf planned or anything that you're gonna do outdoors,

make sure you got the sunscreen in the water. It is gonna feel every bit of summer today. A lot of humidity to make it feel like it is late August into early September. We're already in the middle of September now, still feeling like it is August. It's a beautiful sunrise this morning. Temperatures are already in the 70s across the area,

with the exception of a few places still in those upper 60s. And we have a touch of autumn in the forecast. And Steve wrote a taste of autumn. Either way, a couple of days where it's gonna feel well below average for this time of year, and it's a welcome change, at least in my opinion.

I'm ready for fall. All right, Kim, we'll see in a moment. Thank you. Now it's a breaking news. A reported shooting overnight in Cumberland County. Our crew on the scene there telling us a man was shot on Bend of River Road and Godwin. The victim was flown to Wake Med with serious injuries and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Also in Cumberland County, a driver seriously heard after losing control and crashing on I-95.

This happened last night just south of exit 65. Our breaking news crews say the car hit an embankment before going airborne and flipping several times. First responders had to use the jaws of life to free that driver before rushing them to the hospital. Highway Patrol believes the driver suffered a medical emergency. Now, we're working to learn more about a tragic crash in Granville County that killed a father, mother, and their young daughter. Our crew found some debris left there at the scene on I-85 near mile marker 196. Highway Patrol tells us the deadly crash happened around 4 o'clock Saturday morning. Authorities say Jason Nye hit a fire truck that was on the scene of an earlier accident.

Nye, his wife, Christina, and their six-year-old daughter died at the scene, and the couple's 10-year-old son was airlifted to Duke Hospital. No one else was hurt. Time now 602 on this Sunday morning, and as we celebrate Latin and Hispanic Heritage Month, eyewitness news, learning more about ICE activity in North Carolina and statewide. The ABC News data team analyzed arrest information from the deportation data project. They found ICE has detained more than 5,000 North Carolinians so far this year, and more than 253,000 people nationwide. John Dowding spoke with local advocates about how this activity is impacting immigrant and

refugee communities here in the triangle. We're definitely seeing increased activity with this. Advocates say an uptick in ice activity is inciting fear and anxiety in immigrant communities. People with status are afraid to do things like drive because they think I'm going to get pulled over. I'm going to get arrested and I'm going to get put into ice custody. According to data from the deportation data project, analyzed by the ABC News data team.

This year, ICE detained more than 253,000 people across the country. ICE apprehended more than 5,000 people in North Carolina alone with the Raleigh area, seeing at least 441 arrests. What we're seeing now is people who are getting detained at regular check-ins. Of those detained across the country this year, roughly 28% were convicted criminals, 30% had pending criminal charges and more than 40% had no criminal history. Because of this fear, it's having an effect overall in the quality of life of North Carolinians. Immigrant advocacy groups say the concerns in the community center around the fear of being out in public.

The stress, the fear, the anxiety, the stigma, the things that really have prevented folks from getting the mental health care that they need have become more challenging. This growing fear comes as a new report highlights the mental health needs for North Carolina's immigrant and refugee communities. Staff from El Futuro released the Immigrant Mental Health Solidarity Report. The report emphasizes the need to meet people where they are to lower the barrier for mental health access. Reimbrcing services such as home visiting and community health worker visits, supporting training for community health workers and peer support specialists that really highlight the people. particular needs of immigrant and refugee communities. That was our John Dowding with that report.

Now, we reached out to ICE and Border Patrol in November asking for details about the number of detentions during Operation Charlotte's Web here in the triangle. They've yet to respond to our Freedom of Information Act requests. Looking ahead to tomorrow will be the final court hearing before the faith hedge path murder trial begins. The court filings show the prosecution plans to call six expert witnesses to the stand. They include SBI investigators, forensic scientists, and the court. sexual assault nurse examiner. Hedgebeth was found dead in her Chapel Hill apartment in 2012.

Miguel Seguero Olivares was arrested for her murder in 2021. The trial will start next Monday, September 28th. Now to hear voice, your vote. Just 44 days until the midterm elections and Vice President J.D. Vance will be in North Carolina tomorrow. He's sold in a rally for Republican candidates in Greensboro, hoping to drum up support ahead of midterms. Vance's event starts at 11 tomorrow at the Corey Convention Center and people who want to attend need to register in advance. A piece to history on display in Durham, your last chance to see the Declaration of Independence before it moves locations. Plus new ideas for improvement projects. A final day for a popular home show in Raleigh. And a week two of NFL. The big game today for Bryce Young and the

Carolina Panthers. But first, good morning Kim. Good morning, Bianca. Good morning, everyone. Radar looking for rain, no precipitation to be found across our area. And that's going to remain the case today. Temperatures for highs, mainly everyone's seen 80s and 90s, but we do have a fall-like forecast in the seven day. I'll show you that on the other side of the break. This is first alert weather from ABC 11 eyewitness news. Welcome back, everyone. I'm meteorologist Kim Deer. Filling in for Steve Stewart today. Let's talk about what we could expect for today as well as the next couple of days. Weather today, partly cloudy, just that mix of clouds and sunshine, a bit more humid today compared to yesterday. We are going to see a high of 90 degrees. And then we're going to get into more of a

unsettled weather pattern as we head into the start of the work week. Tomorrow a front will move through the area and we should see some late day storms, some of which could be strong to severe. Biggest threat with that would be straight line winds and even some torrential downpours. So we'll be on the lookout for that. And then we begin to cool down as we head into Tuesday. We're going to be dealing with separate systems. The first one is stationary boundary and then a low that's going to form right along that stationary boundary and bring even more moisture in. So we're going to talk about that in a few minutes. But right now, let's take a look outside.

Right now, temperatures in the 70s across the area. All of us, with the exception of Silor City at this point, though, Oxford, as well as Rona Gravidstein, temperatures and the 60s. We'll all see 70s and 80s and lower 90s for the rest of the afternoon. Temperatures dropping very slowly throughout the evening. We drop to about 76 degrees at 11 p.m. We will see more cloud cover tonight than we saw last night. So tomorrow morning will not be as cool as this morning.

If you're traveling, be prepared for some weather delays, especially if you're headed to Chicago. That's where we've seen delays all morning. Now we're seeing them in Boston as well. Most likely those delays out of RDU this morning headed to Boston and even Chicago and O'Hare are weather-related, Bianca. All right. Kim, thank you. Well, today is the final day of the Southern Ideal Home Show at the state fairgrounds and Raleigh. Experts will be on hand to give you advice and guidance about your home improvement projects.

The fall event also celebrates North Carolina. Carolina's barbecue culture and cuisine with a different pit master doing demonstrations daily. Tickets are $12 for adults. 13 kids, 13 and under are free. Today is your last chance to see the Declaration of Independence at the Durham County Main Library. Three copies dating back to the early 1800s are on display. They are on loan from a collection for America's 250th birthday celebration.

So after today, the copies will be moved to Duke University's National Museum of Art, where they'll be on display from Thursday. day until early January. The merging of two of the state's largest healthcare networks, the critical vote to watch tomorrow. Plus tribute rising, the new community in Durham honoring the past while building on the future. And the arts festival taking over downtown Durham for the second straight day. We are local news. ABC 11 eyewitness news continues now.

A protest is planned tomorrow as Wake County Commissioners vote on a proposed deal to merge Wake Med with Atrium Hell. The proposed deal would shift significant operational and financial responsibility from WakeMed to Atrium, which is one of the nation's largest health care systems. The state employees association has warned the merger were likely raised premiums for all state employees, but at least $100. The patient's union is holding a demonstration at Nash Square tomorrow ahead of the meeting, which begins at 2 o'clock.

I love it. I mean, I've been with Weight Med for years and years and years and hey, and I ain't about to switch. anti-democratic that they would do that and keep the public out. And so eyewitness news reached out to Atrium for comment, but we haven't heard back. Meantime, Wake Medd says that it remains competent. The merger will strengthen care for patients and communities across the county and the broader region. Tomorrow, Kerrytown Council meeting again to discuss that scathing audit report

exposing how the town was spending your money. It comes after the state auditor blasted the town for a culture of extravagant spending. and lack of oversight. This all stems from that investigation into the former town manager, Sean Stiegel, who was found in that report to have used public funds for high-end expenses. Without a Durham, where plans are in motion for a major redevelopment project at the former Forest Hills Heights public housing community just south of the Durham freeway. But what does it mean for families who once lived there? Arkela Davis took a look at the promise being made for former residents. Marketing is honoring the past while building the future. Tribute rising.

is designed to pay tribute to Hai once a thriving center for black businesses and culture. Providing opportunities to black entrepreneurs and women, along with thinking about public art and murals and inspirational sayings throughout the community to remind everyone of the great history and legacy of the Haitai community. Jordan Jones is with Atlanta-based developer, the Integral Group. He says the project will transform a former public housing site, eventually bringing about 900 apartments to this 15-acre site. Phase one promises 352 rental units. 100 will be affordable, 75 will be attainable housing, and the remaining units will be market rate. Jones says former

Forest Hill Heights residents helped shape the plans. Talking about potential building locations, what the buildings could look like, what would be future needs to serve on the site. The Durham Housing Authority says the last Forest Hill Heights residents moved out in April of this year and were relocated across Durham using housing vouchers. In 2022, DHA sent residents this letter telling them they would have the right to return after construction. DHA said, quote, Forest Hill Heights community members who would like to return upon the completion of construction are automatically eligible to do so without any rescreening, income eligibility, or income targeting as long as they have remained least compliant.

Developers say honoring Haytai will extend beyond the project's name through opportunities for black businesses, art, and more. This will not at all repair the damage done via urban renewal, but we're hoping this will be a small piece that the community can be proud of. And that was our Akela Davis with that report. Tribute Rising will also become the new home for the Black Farmers Market and Child Care Center, Kate's Corner. Construction for Phase 1 will start next year and be complete by May of 2028. Today, Center Fest continues in downtown Durham, the festival which has been a signature event since 1974, features artists from across the country, showcasing ceramics, paintings, photography, jewelry, and more. This heights and sounds continue today from 11 until 5. Right now at 918, here goes a lot of look at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham,

and it looks pretty nice out there, Kim, so far. Pretty, you know, again, not gray. It is a little, I would say, cooler now these mornings. expected. Yeah, absolutely. And it's really going to be a nice day today. Anything you want to do outdoors, it's going to be possible. And obviously it's going to get warmer as we move throughout the day to day looking at temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s across the area. So if you do have some yard work, you want to probably go ahead and knock that out sooner rather than later. But if you're headed out to church or any other place this morning, it's going to be really

nice for anything outdoors. So a bit warmer for today, a little more humid as well. Our winds are out of the southwest for today. And the opportunities for rain, they really go up over the next couple of days. We'll take a look at that throughout the forecast. And then are we turning the corner? Could it be possible? Are we done with the 90s and the feel-like temperature is over 100? I'm hoping that's the case. We're going to take a look at some really cool weather coming up in the seven-day. And that's going to be around for a couple of days. 90 for today. We're looking at 90 again for tomorrow. Storms begin to move in as a frontal system moves in. And that's going to keep us unsettled Tuesday, Wednesday into Thursday. And then we finally dry out on front.

So we're really seeing temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s. We'll see some cold air damming and that's when we have those winds out of the north and northeast and that cooler air just can't get up and over the mountains. And so we're stuck with it and that's going to be some dreary days, but we do need the rain and we're about two inches below where we should be. So we're going to have to take some of those dreary days just to get the rain. Now here comes the cold front. This is going to be the first system to bring us rain late in the day on Monday and then it's

going to settle into the area and that's going to also have to have. have an area of low pressure travel up and along it and that's going to keep us unsettled. But that unsettled weather does not arrive in the next 12 hours. You can see just looking at this, we're going to see a mix of clouds and sunshine all day today. Highs will top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s. We'll be slow to cool down because we'll start to see some of that cloud cover move in ahead of that frontal system off to our north and predictor picking up some rain well to our west. But it doesn't bring rain into our area until we head into the day on Monday. So the more sunshine we see tomorrow the more unstable the atmosphere is going to be and those are going to be the locations that have the best chance of seeing the heavier rain and the stronger storm. So just keep that in mind. And we stay unsettled even as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday the potential there to get some much needed rain. Temperatures already in the 70s across the area, but certainly not too hot for anything outdoors. This evening is going to be another nice night. So dinner outdoors is fine as well. We'll drop back into the 70s as we move.

throughout the evening. And then there's that stationary front that will be an issue during the day tomorrow and then on Tuesday and then we're going to have an area of low pressure form right along this frontal boundary and that's what's going to really give us that potential for some heavier rain. After that pushes to the south then high pressure moves into the area and we start to get some of that cooler Canadian air. We don't see it this time of year so it is a very exciting point that we are going to see it over the next weekend especially. Now 94 today, 94 tomorrow. We officially introduce fall into the forecast on Tuesday

with a high of 81, but we're gonna see those scattered showers and thunderstorms all day on Tuesday. So the rain gear definitely needed for that day as well as Wednesday. And then Thursday we see that rain lingering at least into the morning and then we dry out and just take a look at how much we cool down. We're looking at temperatures in the mid-50s

for wake-up temperatures and only seeing 70s with sunny skies and low humidity as we head into next weekend. That is a perfect fall forecast. Is it here to stay? Those 70s? No, Bianca. But if I could say goodbye to the 115 feel-like temperatures that we've seen in the last month, I think I'll be happy with that.

September 20th, I'm Biancahoma, and you're watching eyewitness news on ABC11 and wherever you stream. The details of all this top stories and all the today's news it's just ahead but first we got to check in with meteorologists Kim Deiner in for Steve Stewart this morning and looks pretty beautiful out I mean

around 70 or so so you know great weather to be outside absolutely it's beautiful outside this morning plenty of sunshine and we're gonna see that sunshine all day today but we are gonna warm up but only you know in the upper 80s and lower 90s and compared to where we have been all summer long that's not bad at all we have a cold front that's moving in our direction this cold front is gonna be responsible for some storms we see tomorrow afternoon and evening and then we're going to see a series of weather events that take place over several days that are going to bring us a chance of seeing some much-needed rain across the area.

But for today, we don't have any rain in the forecast. We're going to see just that mix of clouds and sunshine. We'll see a high of 90 degrees. Winds out of the southwest at even from 7 to 10 miles an hour, and that's definitely going to introduce some humidity. So a little bit more humid today than it was yesterday. We did see a high of 89 yesterday. The record to beat today is 96, and we are not going to do this.

that. Here's that look at that unsettled weather pattern that's going to start taking shape during the day tomorrow. So we have a chance of 50% during the afternoon evening, 60 overnight, and then we're bump it up to 80% on Tuesday. So that's going to be the best day, best chance of seeing showers. And then Wednesday we have that 50 to 60% chance. Thursday, we begin to see things clear out just a bit. If you plan to play golf today, don't forget the sunscreen and make sure you take water. It is going to be a hot one today. Temperatures topping out near 90. And in the lower, 90s south of the triangle. Just a gorgeous view from our Pendo sky camera though. You can just see how much sunshine we have clear, Carolina, blue skies and temperatures are responding quickly

to that sunshine. We started off in the 60s this morning. Most of us have climbed into the 70s. I think the next update, all of us will be in the 70s and some of us closing in on near 80 degrees at that point. Now later on this week, we get a little taste of autumn. Do I think the temperatures I'm going to show you in the 7-day are going to stay for a long time? period of time, no, but it is a nice little break as we introduce fall on our calendar on Tuesday. Bianca? All right, Kim, thank you. Well, this morning, a target will be open in Apex after a scary situation yesterday, a bomb threat,

forcing people to evacuate the store in Beaver Creek Commons yesterday. Apex Police spent several hours searching before giving the all clear and allowing the store to reopen. Well, this morning, police are investigating after someone drew swastika's on a sign at East Clayton Community Park. were blurring out those images connected to the Nazi regime. And at this point, Clayton Police say the incident has not been classified as vandalism, but they are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the imagery. Maintenance staff have since removed the park signs. This morning, the North Carolina Central, North Carolina Central's School of Law is mourning

the death of one of its own. Professor Charles Smith passed away on September 15th at the age of 88. Back in 1973, he became one of the first black patent attorneys in the country. He joined Central Central. Law School in 1979, where he made a lasting contributions throughout his tenure. He was also in the Vietnam War. He's a veteran. A celebration of life will be held next Saturday at noon at Kings Park International Church in Durham. Now to the calls for more affordable housing in Wake County, the organization, One Wake,

launched its equity campaign, bringing together residents, faith leaders, and elected officials. The goal? To address what they call a housing crisis. They say 67,000 more housing units are in needed to meet the growing demand. We shouldn't close people out just because their pay is less. Social workers, nurses, teachers can't afford to live here. And the county knows that that's not sustainable. All of our municipalities know that there must be something done. And so one way asked elected officials to work with the organizations to advance

affordable housing, including support for two proposed developments. On now to the latest in the war in Iran, Saudi Arabia says its forces intercepted. A Houthi ballistics missile headed towards its capital. The escalation is also raising concerns about global oil prices and supplies. Already we have record fuel prices. So here's ABC's Perry Russell. Explosions rocking Saudi Arabia's capital as the U.S. war with Iran passes the 200-day mark. A large plumb of smoke seen near Riyadh's main airport.

after Saudi officials say they intercepted a Houthi ballistic missile fired towards the city. The Saudis also say the Houthis attempted to target civilians and civilian sites in the western region, but that the attacks were thwarted by the kingdom's air defense systems. The attacks mark a new escalation in the fighting. On Friday, the Houthis claimed the Saudis launched more than two dozen strikes in Yemen as air and ground operations intensified. The attacks raising concerns about security in Saudi Arabia, the wider conflict with Iran, as well as fuel prices. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded nearing $450 a gallon, according to Gas Buddy. Americans like Brittany Bivens of North Carolina say they're feeling the pinch.

I'm a teacher, so I don't make a lot of money. It's really, you have to make a decision on gas, food, you know, the basics. And the national average price for diesel hitting a record averaging $6.44 a gallon. President Trump insists the higher prices are a small price to pay. to set back Iran's nuclear program. I think most people, if they had a vote on lower gas prices or letting Iran have a nuclear weapon, I'd be willing to vote that it would be a massive landslide. People don't want to have Iran have a nuclear weapon.

And you know what? They won't. And the war's going to end soon. Sources tell ABC News. New estimates show the cost of the war has reached more than $43 billion with just 45 days until the midterm elections. Alex Pershey, ABC News, Washington. New this morning, singer Ed Shearin issues an apology days after removing McLemore from his tour over comments and support of the Palestinians.

Shearin told the crowd in Philadelphia his heart is broken over the Israel-Hamas war. What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate. I don't want to disappoint fans, and I've never wanted to be an activist musician, that this has put me in the middle of an important and passionate argument about freedom of speech the most complex political issue on the planet. Saturday's performance attracting protesters who supported McLemore and Palestinians and resale ticket sales were down ahead of the show. Got a traffic alert for you in Orange County.

The highway ramp closed for months as the road is widened. Plus, this special milestone at a local maternity care center and later chatting it out with a champ. 11-Ewitness News. Good morning, everyone. I'm meteorologist Kim Deter filling in for Steve Stewart this morning. going to be a hot one today and tomorrow. We're looking at daytime highs today, topping out in the upper 80s and lower 90s across the area. And that's going to be the case for tomorrow as well. But late day storms will cool some of us down and bring some good rain, much needed rain to the area. And we begin to move into an unsettled weather pattern starting Monday and that will be with us for the better part of the week. We have a stationary front across the area and that warm front is going to serve as a focus for some thunderstorm development as we start into the day tomorrow. Temperatures are already in the 70s across the area. We have a few 60s still left, but I think that next update will take our temperatures into the mid-70s to near 80 degrees. Temperatures really climb quickly as that sun gets higher into the sky.

This evening, not a problem for anything outdoors. Temperatures will slowly drop into the 70s as we head into the evening. Overnight lows will also be in the 70s. Traveling this morning, we do have some active weather, basically from West Virginia all the way across to the west coast. seeing some delays, Boston, Philadelphia, as well as Chicago, O'Hare. So if you're headed to RDU and moving in any of those or headed any of those directions, and you might want to call ahead to see exactly what your flight looks like this morning. Bianca. heads up. Well, now to a traffic alert in Orange County, crews closing the ramp from I-85 south to I-40 east for the next two months. It's part of the interstate widening project in that area. Detours will be in place. The ramp is scheduled to be reopened in November. UNC HALs celebrating a great milestone at one of its maternity care centers in Chatham County. Baby Malin became the center's 1,000th delivery arriving on September 8th. The same day, the facility marked six years of caring for families. Her parents, Maria Garcia Avila and Romero Hernandez-Guzman, say that they are thrilled to welcome their newest family member. A plane crash in Western North Carolina, an update on the pilot and passenger as the investigation begins.

Plus, lacing up to end Alzheimer's The Walk in Moore County, bringing hope and support to those impacted by the disease, and your chance to help a local high school band perform on an even larger stage. We are Local News. ABC 11 eyewitness news continues now. How abouty now, a plane crash under investigation in Western North Carolina. Two people were injured yesterday when a small plane crash in a field in Arden just outside of Asheville. Highway Patrol says the aircraft experience some type of issue and, deployed an onboard parachute, which helped slow it down before the crash. The pilot and passenger were taken to the hospital they're expected to survive.

ABC 11 together highlighting the hundreds of people who hit the streets and find hers to fight Alzheimer's disease. This event at Sand Hills Community College in Moore County raises awareness as more than 7 million Americans are living with a disease. That includes 210,000 North Carolinians and Mike Rossbert's wife, Sue, who was this year's blue flower recipient. We always kiss each other good night. We always still kiss each other in the morning.

But there's some difficult times where you just want to go out in the garage and just scream. ABC 11 is a proud's partner with the Alzheimer's Association for the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Now to Granville County and the 33rd Annual Creedmoor Music Festival, hundreds on hand to watch two stages of live entertainment, gospel, bluegrass, country, rock,

all from talented local performers. ABC11 reporter Tom George helping to emcee that event out there. Well, for the better part of the century, the E. Smith marching ban has been dazzling football fans across the sand hills. Now the ban known as the magnificent marching machine is hoping to take their talents to a national stage. Barbara Gibbs shows us how you can help them make their dream a reality. At E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, every note, every step, and every drumline is practiced for perfection. I've had a blast being back home, man, and I'm just really motivated to make sure I do right by the program and the kids. In his second year, magnificent marching machine band director and E.E. Smith alum, Adam Sobers continues that legacy, taking over last year after his former band director and mentor Roosevelt Pratt Jr., retired. after 28 years.

Giving kids something to look forward to, something to have pride in and work toward. Teaching your work ethic, discipline, staying at it, consistency. All of those things are necessary to be a good band, so it's the best place to learn. That work ethic and determination earned the band of more than 100 student musicians,

a milestone opportunity, being selected to perform in the 2026 Chicago Thanksgiving parade. This is the biggest trip that band has ever went on, and this would be the best one biggest trip I ever went on. As a senior, you always want your senior year to be your biggest and your best year, and that's what this trip could be for me. For seniors Jordan Barnett and Brandon Light, this opportunity is about representation. To represent North Carolina, E. Smith, all people,

all the legacies and the alumni that came from here, we're representing everybody. The band now is turning to that community for help getting there in November and hoping to raise $100,000 to pay for travel, food, lodging, and student activities. It is a tall task, and I've been back and forth in my head, whether or not I'm crazy for even going forward with attempting it. But I am a firm believer in our community, what this band means to this city. The community will come through, man. I do believe that. And that was our Barbara Gives with that report. you can log onto our website ABC11.com. And as we talk about E. Smith, here goes a lot of looking to downtown Fayetteville. Looking pretty beautiful out there. Kim? That's a gorgeous shot. You can just see how blue the skies are. And a lot of cloud cover to talk about. And that lack of cloud cover will definitely aid in those temperatures climbing into the 80s and 90s today. But it is a beautiful start to this Sunday morning.

A gorgeous sunrise this morning. That sun's been high enough in the sky to really take those temperatures up. Now, the changes ahead for today, a little bit warmer than it was yesterday, a little more humid, too, but still a great day. You want to get things done earlier in the day, because we will see those temperatures rising quickly later on this afternoon. Opportunities for rain pretty good over the next couple of days, and we need the rain about two inches below where we should be for this time of months. So we need the rain. It looks like we're going to have a decent shot of that, at least for one of the days. Turning cooler as we head into the end of the work week, I don't think it's going to hang around forever, but certainly a nice treat. today and tomorrow in the upper 80s and 90s and lower 90s.

And then we drop down to about 81 on Tuesday as weather is very unstable at that unstable at that point. We see some cold air damning happening Wednesday and Thursday as that's when we get those winds off of the north and the northeast and they just can't, that cooler air can't get up and over the mountain. So it just stays and hangs around. So there's going to be days that are going to be gray and we're going to really need that rain gear.

But after that, the sun comes out and temperatures only climbing into the 70s for highs with morning lows in the 50s. That's all courtesy of some Canadian air coming into our area, which is not likely for this time of year, so it's going to be a nice treat. Here's the cold front that's going to bring the rain tomorrow afternoon. It's marching to the south and to the east. It is going to bring rain throughout the area, throughout the area, but through Virginia, but not to us until we head into tomorrow afternoon. For the next 12 hours, we can expect it to be dry, just a 20% chance of rain later this evening. And I'm not, I don't have one model that brings a shower in later on this evening. So I think we're going to stay dry with temperature slowly

dropping back into the 70s. Now the predictor does bring some rain well to the west of us this evening, but it keeps us in that drier air mass. And then we head into Monday where we see a bit more in the way of cloud cover and rain activity as we move into the afternoon and evening. And then we just keep that unsettled weather pattern over the next couple of days. It looks like we really won't dry out or see an end to at least the chance of those shower activities until Thursday. Friday looks to be our first day of seeing some really nice weather as we head into next weekend. Temperatures now in the 70s across the area, almost at 80 degrees in Clinton, 73 in Roxborough, 74 in Burlington, and 73 in Durham, 74 in Raleigh. This evening is going to be a great evening.

Anything you want to do outdoors, the weather should cooperate pretty nicely for you. That chance of rain, again, still stays to the west of us for the evening and not a really big chance until we head in tomorrow, into tomorrow afternoon. Here's that cold front. That's what's going to keep it hot and humid for tomorrow. It slips a bit to the south, becomes stationary, and we start to see the storms becoming more likely. A combination of this frontal system and a boundary that's going to form right along this, an area of low pressure that's going to pump some moisture in our direction. So a couple different weather systems bringing us that chance of rain over the next couple of days. After the rain pushes out of the area, cooler air heads south out of Canada.

It's cooler, it's drier, humidity's drop, and we can at least say goodbye. to those 100 and filling like over 100 degree temperatures. And then here's a look at your seven day forecast. Bianca.
