Spotify, it's Jay Shetty.
Are you one of those media strategy people?
Scrolling through spreadsheets,
searching for an audience that pays twice as much attention to your ads
than they do on social?
Let me introduce you to fans.
And they're here with me on Spotify.
Trust me, I know fans.
They don't skip, they stay for hours.
They don't move on, they manifest.
They're not a demographic group, they're fans.
Spotify Advertising.
You're among fans.
Today is the best version of myself I've ever been, but it's also the worst I'll ever be.
Because tomorrow I'll be better.
So it's a quest, bro.
That right there keeps me hungry.
I want to see what I look like in my final form.
I want to see what I look like at Super Sand.
And I got to train my mind, train my body, kill my ego, go through else, go through fights, go through humbling.
I got to go through it all.
Just to get to my final destination, this is a journey.
This is a real journey.
This journey will test you, but this journey makes you who you are.
Comfort is a slow death.
It doesn't kill you all at once.
It rot you, quiet, while you scroll, while you wait,
while you tell yourself tomorrow.
It seduces you with warmth.
It steals your fire.
No alarms, no warning.
Just one day you wake up a stranger to your potential.
You weren't broken, you were numb.
That's what comfort does.
It turns someday into never,
and you smile through your decay
because it doesn't hurt to die slowly,
but it should.
So get uncomfortable.
Sweat, bleed, build,
build, take risks, take action, feel pain, and feel alive.
But the truth is, I'm really in pursuit of greatness.
If you have nothing going for you, it's another way of saying that you have nothing to lose.
And so it means that you have endless shots on goal.
And so you should be the most prone to taking action because there's nothing holding you back.
What do you have nothing?
It's just, it's literally just voices in your head from your mom who say that you're not going to win.
that you're not going to win and you say you're right mom and then you keep doing it anyway
most people let their mindset control their actions what if you let your actions determine your
mindset do it when you don't feel like to move forward anyway but i'm gonna tell you bro you woke up today
which means that you're not going to figure out until you're going this quest this journey
a peer journey the journey man like i always say that shapes you and cultivates you make you who you are
Whatever season that you're in right now, sit in, don't run away from it, accept it,
and just grow.
Because the journey that you're in in, 2005 will be a different journey towards 26.
And then, you know, when it's time for your day, you add them all up, your whole life
was just one big journey.
Life is beautiful, man.
You know, there's ups and downs, and you just got to take it one step at a time.
Everything will work out so long as you trust yourself.
You don't give up on yourself, and you have faith in full.
belief in that you're capable of living the life that you are pursuing.
I believe in you, my friend.
You chose this path.
Don't forget that.
And you knew it wasn't going to be easy.
You knew people were going to say things about you.
You knew the world.
Most of the world is too scared to pursue the path that you're now pursuing.
Embrace it.
Your eyes are the window to your soul.
A belief.
Inspiration, the willpower.
And just like when you put something in your life,
your mouth and you chew it.
They can either enhance the disease or yourself or be the demise depending on what you're eating.
The scene goes true with what you see.
There's a visual diet out there that's good and bad.
There's negative energy if you look at and you focus on you allow that come in to be a demise
of your real power.
The demise of your self-confidence what you can be and what you believe in.
You focus on the negative so much, you start to believe that negative should exist in you.
That's a negative unhealthy diet.
Failure is not an option.
You can't even let it sink into your brain.
And to not even a second.
You have to know that this thing is going to work.
Come hell or high water, whatever it is that I set out to do,
it may not happen in six months.
It may not happen in the year.
It may not happen in two years.
But at some point, my dream is going to become a reality.
I don't care how good you are in any.
and you don't have discipline, you ain't nobody.
You're nothing without discipline
because you give up in the slightest struggle
without discipline.
Discipline is doing what you hate to do,
but do it like you love it.
Just because we're going through a hard time,
we have a setback that that's not a part of the journey.
I'm gonna tell you right now,
God will allow things to happen in your life
to grow different things in your life.
So a lot of us, we're going through a time right now
in our life, you're like, man, God don't love me, man,
life ain't fair, man, everybody else getting blessed,
and everybody else having the right things in their life,
and everybody else having the right things in their life,
is going through everything they're happy, they draw it.
And I'm in this moment.
Let me tell you something.
When you look back on your path,
it's the moments that were difficult
that built your strongest faith.
When the alarm sounds, it's time.
Rise.
Despite fatigue and soreness,
curse the warmth of the bed,
curse the comfort of the pillow,
fight the temptation of weakness,
get up and go.
You go.
go after and you give it all you have.
If you lose, at least you try, man.
I failed.
It's ten times more of a man than someone said, What If?
Because what if never went to the arena.
When you guys find a fear, that fear will either
creates you or destroy you.
This is yours.
You're the captain.
You're the master.
You're the foreman.
You're the general.
You're the head.
Don't give control of this to nobody.
everything is going on, right?
It seems as if the walls falling down.
It seems as if, man, don't none work.
Oftentimes, there was decisions and choices made
far prior to that moment
that's contributing to that moment,
seeming as if the walls are falling down.
And so when you look at shortcuts
in different areas and aspects of life,
I always think to the point of, like, man, you know that's an illusion.
Right? You know it's an illusion.
You know sooner than later you're going to end up in the dead end.
You know sooner than later you're going to get to a point in space and place in your life to where when it doesn't work
It's going to be hard to turn that finger back like when you point and you blame up
It's going to be hard to turn that thing back and say
Nah, it's me
It was the hardest times that built your strongest strength
It was the hardest times that built the endurance in your life
It was the hardest times that built your belief
So you might be in the season right now where the world is trying to lie to you
The world is trying to tell you that your life is over
The world is trying to tell you that you ain't special.
The world is trying to tell that you ain't got no worth, that you ain't got no value.
The world is trying to tell you that better days are ahead for your life.
The war is trying to tell you that nobody else will love you, care about you.
The world will tell you that your dreams are over.
And I'm going to tell you, it's a lot easy to believe those things when you look at your circumstances.
But I tell you all the time that I want to tell you right now, you can't trust your circumstances.
You've got to trust your faith.
I love fear.
And reason why, behind every fear is a person you want to be.
Fear is self-impose.
doesn't exist. You create it, you can destroy it too. It's an intangible. If you face your fears,
guys, you will realize it's not that big. And once you face it, you go, oh my God, man,
I've done all this time running from it. It was so small. If I just faced it, my God, not only
did I face it, I beat it back, energy is never lost, transfer. That negative energy,
a fear is destroyed. It comes back in its confidence. What else am I, what else my cable
of? What else am I holding my back from? That I'm capable of more. What am I running from when I don't need to?
What else can I overcome?
Push through tough times, I'm sure, many of them.
But as you push through those, you become more.
As you become more, something magical happens.
You don't just grow.
You expand in your spirit and your soul and your capacity and your skill.
And all of a sudden, fear becomes less and less a part of you.
Do not reason with weakness.
You cannot.
You must only take action.
Get out.
Let go.
The thing that you'll resent?
isn't whether or not you make it.
The thing that you'll resent is,
now that you know you can,
will you actually try?
You find a fear.
The quickest, the easiest way you can beat it is initial.
Right when it comes in.
If you allow it to sit,
it will grow root and start breaking you down,
destroying the potential of a person you can be.
Again, the champions, guys,
it's not their potential,
it's not their genetics.
It's their perseverance to always show up,
always willing to fail,
is in failure, that's part of success.
Success is not, you know, a marathon of life
but just ups.
Success is formulated through failures,
through facing your fears,
through falling down and getting back up.
That's what creates the champion.
Whatever you've done up to this point,
all that it really is
is a duplication,
and it's a reproduction
of what you believe subconsciously
that you deserve and what's possible for your life.
Operate out of your imagination, not your memory.
I don't know everything. I have not accomplished everything. I'm not where I want to be. I'm still learning. I'm still growing. I'm still trying to get better. You've got to position yourself and stop fighting. Stop crying. Stop looking at what other people are getting and look at what they're doing. And if you start doing it, you'll start getting it. You don't get out of life what you want. You get out of life what you earn.
Stand up. Go forward. Go out in a blaze of glory, fighting with everything you've got. Every bead of sweat.
every drop of blood until your last breath.
Everything is happening to you as God is processing you.
Every difficult moment you're having, he's just processing it.
That's all he doing.
Everything you're going through is preparing you for what you ask God for.
And if you need to be tough, when you get to where you're going,
then he's going to toughen you.
If you got to be more caring along the way,
he'll let you have some trouble.
trials come to your way that's going to have to produce that in you.
When you're making these moves, when you're going to work, when you, when you execute
these dreams, you're doing this for your life.
And then ain't nothing more valuable than that.
So have your heart when it's time to accept those challenges because stepping out on
your own, everybody's going to challenge you.
Stop needing a trip.
Stop needing somebody to give you a sticker on your head.
Stop needing it here.
You an honest student.
And do it for the pride of who you are.
Do it because you can't.
Get all hate because you can.
I don't care what your friends are doing.
So I leave you with this.
There's no black or brown.
There's no difference.
You are excellent.
Now stop playing small.
You are excellent.
Stop playing small.
You are excellent.
Stop taking the hand that they dealt you.
When you come to a place in your life
where you have to make a choice,
and I think this is actually true of every choice we ever make.
But it's more evident when the choice is more
more weighty, let's say, as the choices that lay themselves out known in front of you are
waiting. You aim up or downed. And there is always an agent of temptation at every choice point
enticing you to aim down. Who are you becoming? So I think in the context of becoming,
it's like we're always becoming, we're always on our on our way to becoming something. Are you becoming
a better version of yourself or are you becoming somebody who is moving away from, you know,
what I would characterize as as your true essence, investing our energy and how we're conducting
ourselves or relating to the world or responding or reacting to the world around us.
Your brain spends most of its time trying to make sure you don't notice because you'll go crazy
if you notice everything. But when you decide what's most important to you, your brain goes after it.
If you don't know exactly what you want or you let yourself get beyond that with something
in general, you're not going to achieve it.
Clarity is power.
The more clear you are about exactly what it is you want, the more your brain knows how to get there.
Deep down the side, I believe most people on the planet are heartbroken.
Why?
Because they have betrayed the visions, ambitions, values, mission in their heart.
They have betrayed their talent.
by buying into mass hypnosis that the world has sold them.
Most people, their misery is derived by their inability to sit quietly in a room by themselves.
But really, if we're all responsible for everything in our lives,
then there's no one to blame.
All is in perfect, divine right order.
and we are all doing our best according to the understanding, awareness, and knowledge that we have.
Our point of power is always in the present moment.
We create our future by our thoughts and actions of today.
And we can know that no person, no place, and no thing has any power over us.
We create all our situations and all our situations.
circumstances by our thinking-feeling patterns and then we usually give away our power by
blaming others when things do not go the way we want I think faith is a form of courage
you know if you're hurt by life and you will be it's understandable that you might react in a
nihilistic and hopeless fashion and become anxious and depressed and cynical and bitter in all
of that that's a bad pathway and I think part of
What helps you through that is faith, and part of that faith is that it's incumbent upon you
and actually in your best interest and everyone else is to maintain faith in the fundamental goodness
of existence, including your own, despite the evidence to the contrary.
Faith is the courage to not take that path, despite the evidence that that might be justified.
Play at Edison.
You can't play at Misty Copeland.
And you can't play it world class unless you bring yourself away from the world and do the practice, do the training, do the thinking.
You have flow within you, you have genius within you.
Most of us are so distracted, they're so overstimulated, that they don't create the silent spaces where their genius can present themselves.
Instead of going backward, instead of decay, get stronger.
Get better, grow and learn and develop and live.
Live in defiance of the weakness and in rebellion against the decay.
Fight them as they creep in with their offers of instant gratification and immediate rewards.
Fight them for every inch they try to take.
Do not surrender any ground ever.
Hold the line.
You do what it is you supposed to.
You're supposed to build something?
You're supposed to create something?
I don't know how to do it.
Learn to whatever is required.
It's you.
It's on you.
You've got to make that happen.
Nobody's going to bring it to you on a civil planet.
Here's your dream manifestment.
No, it's hard.
Yes, it's hard.
It's difficult.
Yes, right?
And it's worth it.
Question.
Who are you?
Or at least, who could you be?
Answer.
Part of the eternal force that
constantly confronts the terrible unknown, voluntarily.
And part of the eternal force that faces chaos
and turns it into productive order.
And all of this, being very difficult to understand consciously,
but vital to our survival,
is transmitted in the form of the stories
that we cannot help but attend to.
And it is in this manner that we come to apprehend
what is of value, what we should aim at,
and what we could be.
When you're stretching out,
When you're taking life by the collar, you're going to get thrown to the ground again and again and again.
But when you have determination, and you know that what you're doing is right, it gives you your life, it gives a special meaning and power to you, you will discover some things about yourself.
Then will begin to electrify your personality.
You'll begin to discover some things about you that you don't know you've got.
One of the greatest steps towards success is self-confidence.
And the greatest builder of self-confidence is self-esteem,
doing the things you know you should do so that at the end of the day you have this great satisfaction.
The old prophet said the sleep of a laboring man is sweet.
Not the sleep of a goof-off man.
Not the sleep of a joker, no.
The sleep of one who labors, that's the sleep that's sweet.
Don't allow anybody to make you feel.
that you are nobody always feel that you count always feel that you have worth and always feel that your
life has ultimate significance order to have what you want in life you must stop staring at the
top of that mountain you have
excuses for why you can't or don't feel like it and you must put your head down
and look at the first step in front of you and then you must take the action
and start walking toward what you want I don't believe everybody can be the
biggest and the fastest and the strongest and the smartest but I believe you
are number one when you get up in the morning and say today I'm gonna give it my
best shot I believe you're number one when at the end of the day you can
honestly look in that mirror and say today I gave it my best
John. Winning is in all of us. We all want to win. But the path people take to get to winning,
everybody wants the end result and they want to feel the sugar and the confetti and all that
other stuff. But what you have to endure to win, no one wants to talk about.
The reasons have power. Your reasons will drive you. When you have doubt,
When your faith becomes weak, your reasons will fortify your faith.
When you have an inner conversation, say, no, don't do that.
Your reasons will become your rod and your staff to comfort you, to take you through those challenging moments.
So, boy, don't you stop now?
Don't you set out on the steps because you find this kind of heart, but I still going, boy, I still climbing.
And life for me, aim for me.
been no crystal stair. Well, life for none of us has been a crystal star, but we must keep moving.
We must keep going. You have to lose your fear of failure. Failure is part of the process.
People who never fail, never try. You have to fail. You got to get it wrong to get it right.
Moments away from beginning your journey through life, moments away from starting to change the world for the better.
It will not be easy. Start each day with a task completed. Find someone to help you through life.
Respect everyone. Know that life is not fair and that you will fail often. But if you take some risks,
step up on the times you're the toughest, face down the bullies, lift up the downtrodden, and never,
ever give up. If you do these things, a next generation and the generations that follow will live in a world far better than the one we have today.
and what started here will indeed have changed the world for the better.
Some of us were stuck.
Some of us were stuck because we don't understand the how.
I don't know how I'm going to do it.
I don't know how I'm going to survive.
I don't know.
And we allow the I don't know to keep us in a place that we know
it's not meant for our life.
See, we don't have the courage, and that's when it takes courage.
It takes guts.
to do that which you know you need to do.
If you don't have the courage to act,
life many times will move on you and make you out.
Life will whoop your butt so bad.
You will be so miserable, you will catch so much hells.
You say, yes, I will do it.
What do you want me to do? Take me.
The thing is purpose in life, then all that shit.
It's how you respect yourself, how you look at yourself.
That's in every fucking journey.
Those are the biggest words of all time
as far as respecting yourself.
So look at him as dread and punishment.
Look at those words as a lifestyle.
Stay hard.
You have to think
the way everybody else doesn't.
Otherwise, you're just going to produce ordinary results.
The world is full of ordinary people.
Full of ordinary people.
You know how they love to say, you know, greatness is inside all of us.
Yeah, you know what, it is true.
Greatness is inside all of us.
But for most individuals, that's where it stays.
I'm talking about every single day, the spirit, the disposition of being able to show up on the strength of our integrity and our character
and bring everything we got into an environment.
That doesn't mean we'll always be our best, but I'm talking about specifically being able to bring our best.
Elite or considered the elite, not because of their rise, the elite are considered the elite,
because of their response.
You've got to die as you are now.
You've got to be willing to give up who you are now
for what you can become.
There's no place for it.
In order to do something you've never done,
you've got to be someone you've never been.
Those I can't catch a break guys?
Yeah.
Get them the way from me.
I can't be around those guys.
I don't want to hear that shit.
I don't want to hear that.
I don't buy it.
Because everybody has bad breaks.
Yeah, I've had a shit ton of bad breaks.
But you know what I did? I stayed up.
And I thought through it.
And I figured out what the fuck I did wrong.
And then I went back.
And I've had a shitty breaks.
Everybody has.
But you've got to realize when you have the shitty breaks,
what that is.
It's an opportunity for you to reassess, reboot,
get better, figure out another way, find another way through.
It's just little challenges.
You don't have to be great to get started,
but you have to get started to be great.
You have something special.
You have talents and about you.
in you that you don't even know.
I think if you can put others before yourselves, and if we do that, then you can find
some happiness.
At a minimum, you can leave the world in better condition than you found it.
And if you could pull that off, I think if you could pull that off, then you can die with
a clean conscience and you can die with a smile on her face.
And you can leave a smile on the face of the people you left behind.
At first, when this two shall pass, whatever you encounter, whatever you go through, and
I say this obviously referring to tough moments, right?
This two shall pass, right?
Every storm has an expiration day.
Every storm runs out of rain.
This two shall pass.
The idea is that you have to walk through the entire world in order to get to the center.
So you have to go everywhere and do everything to turn yourself on enough so that you can handle what's coming towards you.
And you do that voluntarily, you open yourself up to the challenge.
You know, all you do is you shrink from life.
The more you shrink, the smaller you get, unsurprisingly, right?
And the more you move forward confidently and willing to take on the challenge and the potential danger, then the stronger you get.
You know why people aren't successful?
Because they're afraid of success.
Because what happens once you get to success,
all the stuff you have to keep doing is stay there.
With that force unsee,
the offspring of a deathless soul,
can hew away into any,
any goal. Though walls of brain it intervened, you will be what you will to be. Let failure
find. It's false content. And so therefore, as you look at yourself, you've got to have this vision
of yourself beyond your circumstances. You've got to see yourself every day. I can do this. I can make this happen.
I'm blessed and highly favored.
Good things are supposed to happen to me.
You've got to see yourself every day.
Day after day after day in the face of so much defeat,
but to have the will and determination to keep going.
Success is going from failure to failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.
The success is going from the failure to the failure to the failure
and still being excited to show up.
Everyone in life has a situation at some point.
You either become the victim or a catapult.
Every single individual.
You might be going through a storm.
You might be going through a struggle.
You might be going through a hard time.
And I get it, it's valid.
You might be going through something that's unfair.
As I said before, the thing about the storm,
storms are going to come.
You know what I mean?
And you've got to understand this.
What storms come, you've got to allow this storm to do what the storm does.
You gotta make sure your perspective is your power and not your prison.
I get it.
Maybe your life may suck.
Somebody didn't you wrong.
I get it.
But what you're going to do about it?
It's life.
The bills are going to keep coming.
The time is going to keep ticking.
The globe is going to keep spending.
People are going to keep living.
And you have to do something about it with your life.
Every hero you guys had was called an idiot, crazy, a loser.
You must break society's status quo.
Status quo is normality.
It's alive but not living it.
It's death on a stick, guys.
The belief of the individual can overcome thousands of followers.
One person with a belief overrides thousands of people with just intent.
Not only you want to stop being scared to do that thing that you don't know if you can
do or not, but you know what you gotta do is you gotta start taking the steps now.
Because when you're 18 years old, your life seems like it's gonna last
forever and I will tell you right now it's not gonna last forever and those years go by
like a summer's day and the next thing you know you look up and you're 36 years old or you're
44 years old and that time's gone you could not get it back you could not get time back so those
dreams that you have those goals that you have don't
put them off another second. Not one second. Get on them. It go out. It make them happen starting right now.
Everyone in the world has a list of things they think they should do. I should lose weight. I should work out. I should spend more time with my kids. I should work harder. I should make more calls. I should. I should. I should.
I should.
And then you know what?
People don't do their shoulds, and they get mad at themselves.
And they what I call shit all over themselves.
They beat themselves up about it.
What changes people is when you should becomes a must.
When suddenly the thing you said should happen has to happen.
That's where human beings change.
If like, if you want to take the island, burn the boats.
Because if there's no way to go back, it's amazing what happens when it's a must.
when it's a must to do something versus a should.
When you get tired, when you get fatigued, when you get down,
when you're in a slung, it's your habits, rituals, routines,
and your standards that carry you through.
If you don't have good habits, you don't have good rituals,
you don't have good routines, always in your life
you will fall down in bad times in slumps and fatigue and in stress.
You've been chasing the role of things before too long.
You've been chasing the role people before too long.
You've been raided.
away from your purpose to something that looks good for your life but is not meant for your life and you're tight.
It's the thing that allows you to go the extra distance to dig just a little bit deeper.
Push a little harder.
Get after it.
So when it doesn't make sense, logical sense to go on, that's when you've got to use your emotion.
That's when you've got to use that anger and that frustration, that fear.
To push yourself anger.
To push yourself to say,
I don't stop.
At some point, everything's going to go south on you.
Everything's going to go south, and you're going to say, this is it.
This is how I end.
Now, you can either accept that or you can get to work.
That's all it is.
You just begin.
You do the math.
You solve one problem.
Then you solve the next one.
And then the next.
And if you solve enough problems, you get to come home.
You fight the weak emotions with the power of logic, and you fight the weakness of logic with the power of emotions.
And in the balance of those to say yourself, I don't stop.
We're built to contend with the world.
We're built to contend with reality.
You want a challenge.
And the best way that you can take on a challenge, because a challenge fortifies you.
So you don't want to be secure.
You want to be strong.
And you get strong by taking on optimal.
challenges. And so you lay out your destiny in the world and you take the slings and arrows of fate
and you make yourself stronger while you're doing so. And you might fail and fortune might do you in.
But it's your best bet. But the habit of hesitate, of questioning, I think it kills more happiness,
more possibility, more dreams than fear, failure, and every excuse that you have. Because it's so subtle.
It's an amazing thing about passion. If you love something,
If you have a strong passion for something, you would go to the extreme to try to understand or try to get it.
If you have to walk, you would go get it.
If you have to beg someone, you will go get it.
You're exhausted.
You're drained because you're running after something that God didn't intend for you to catch.
You're chasing something that's not meant for your life.
Stop chasing that person's approval.
Well, you already been approved.
Life is bounded by mortality,
but that doesn't mean that you don't get out there and contend,
and you develop by contending,
and you minimize the net amount of suffering in the world.
Because if you're thinking, then you're not taking action.
And if you're not taking action, then there's no consequence.
And if there's no consequence, then there's nothing to be afraid of.
The overthinking can be an excuse for actual fear.
You got to become a risk.
Take her.
Write the doubt.
Viscott said, if you're not willing to list, you can't grow.
And if you can't grow, you can't become your best.
And if you can't become your best, you can't be happy.
And if you can't be happy, then what else is there?
You give yourself time for the right opportunities to find you.
You give yourself time for the right personal or people to find you.
But if you keep running this room, you can't find you, you give yourself time for the right opportunity.
Running this race of trying to please or trying to see validation of approval
You will ruin your life don't just talk
Don't just think don't just dream
No
None of that matters
The only thing that matters is that you actually do
So do.
What is most important is that you have to dig deep down, dig deep down and ask yourselves, who do you want to be?
Not what, but who?
And I'm talking about not what your parents and teachers want you to be, but you.
I'm talking about figuring out for yourselves what makes you happy.
In this world, is it fair?
It's fair enough.
So where it sure is juice
I see a lot of
Tigger pointing
Tons of the people play with people for different
Shridden
One of the thing is this
Fear
Fear
Cues a lot of fuckers
for being successful
It keeps you
Make excuses for yourself
Fear of this one place
I'm one place only
And that's in your mind
Don't let fear
You are so
Stay hard
You gotta get in a hurry
to make a difference in your life.
Time is running out like that.
It is impossible to be a Maverick or a true original
if you're too well-behaved and not want to break the rules.
You have to think outside the box.
That's what I believe, after all.
What is the point of being on this earth?
If all you want to do is you like by everyone and avoid trouble.
The only way that ever got any place was the breaking sum of the rules.
There's some necessary losses in life.
When you decide acting in your best interest, you're going to lose some friends.
Everybody's not going to approve of you.
There's some people that won't like you.
It's all your fault.
Everything.
Every bad thing that has ever happened to you is your fault.
Now, I use the word fault to shake people up.
I know that it's making you mad right now.
I know that it winds you up and you think that I'm victim shaming.
And when you get beyond that and you realize all I'm trying to do is remind you that you are never, ever, ever,
ever, ever a victim unless you choose to be, everything in your life will change.
You're always in control, even if that's a lie, and I don't care if it is.
I'm going to own it because the second I give away my power to somebody else,
I'm now at something else's mercy, and there is some line that I can't cross,
that I'm no longer in control.
That never will be wall is creeping up on me.
When you push so hard, something's about to get, and I start to get, my mind.
My mind started to break down.
I started to feel my legs, started to hurt.
I started feeling dehydrated.
Started feeling sorry for myself.
Start looking around.
No one knows out here running.
Why don't you go ahead, just stop.
Call your girl, how to pick you up.
And that's what I fucking little...
And this is when your mind has to fucking change.
You got to start thinking I'm the greatest fucker in the world.
Your dehydration?
Lick, fucking lips.
The legs are all sore.
If you got shins, splits, the stress fractures,
It's the stress fractures? No, you don't. You got sore fucking legs. Get out of your head, stay harmed.
If you don't start getting after your dream, it'll get old and dated and stale because you keep wrapping it in the cell effect.
You keep waiting till you know a little more. So I know a little more. Till I know a little more. If I just knew a little more, that's BS.
You don't need to know a little more. You need to execute a little more. You need to get after it. You need to make some mistakes.
Perfection is the lowest possible standard. Quit trying to be perfect. You don't need to know everything.
assemble the rules of work like hell.
Trust yourself.
Break some rules.
Don't be afraid to fail.
Ignore the naysayers and stay hungry.
You choose your damn sacrifice
because the sacrifice is inevitable.
But at least you get to choose it.
And then there's something that's even more complex than that
in some sense is that
the problem with being a child is that all you are is potential.
And it's really low resolution.
resolution. You could be anything, but you're not anything. So then you go and you adopt an
apprenticeship, roughly speaking, and then you become, at least you become something. And when
you're something, that makes the world open up to you again. You will live in a prison, you will live
unfulfilled, trying to please the world. The first step to be unhappy is trying to please everyone
else. Let me tell you something. It is an impossible task. Somebody somewhere at some time is
not gonna like what you do. No matter how great you are, somebody's not going to like that.
No matter how much goodness you give to the world, somebody's not going to like that. Always
going to be somebody who gets offended by your greatness. Your life is before you. You fill
these pages with your hopes, with your passion, with your dreams. You write the greatest story
ever told.
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill, be a scrub in the valley.
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a highway, just be a trail.
If you can't be the sun, be a star, be the pest of whatever you are.
Vines is, this should be pure.
I think a lot of times when we're born into this world, we actually wind up going backwards.
seems like the more we mature, the more responsible our dreams become. And the more governors
we put on ourselves in our ability to dream and to reimagine. And it's always a fight for
us parents and for you guys to make sure that your dreams always stay pure. And so it's not a matter
of pushing beyond the limitations or expectations. It's really a matter of protecting your dreams,
protecting your imagination that's really the key and when you do that then the world just
seems limitless if there was ever a time in your life where you were more committed to your
dreams your aspirations and goals than you are this very moment I need you to remember
that life is a gift it's a lobe that the very moment that you are in right now is not
promised yet you're here and so you owe yourself that
debt to reignite that fire, to find the wick of purpose, and light it up like never before.
So I ask, what is your wake-up call? What is enslaving you? What is controlling your thoughts?
Is it the television set? Feeding your mind images of what life should be? Or is it weakness?
a lack of discipline that prevents you from accomplishing what you want to accomplish.
Get up and go after me.
Chase down those ghosts.
Chase down your dreams.
Plan on purpose.
Whatever it is you thought.
Whatever it is you got comfortable with.
Whatever it is that got you to take a pause,
I need you to fast forward and go after it with new gusto.
I need you to bother your head.
to that rhythm of life that says, this is your time.
This is your mold.
There is something positive about igniting and being honest with yourself about your goals.
Start talking to yourself.
Start building yourself up.
Sometimes the only good things you will hear about you are the things that you say to you.
So I'm saying learn to be your own booster.
Start building yourself up.
Start encouraging yourself.
Start saying, I can do this.
I can make this happen.
I'll keep living in our limitations, man.
Like, when you understand that your word
that God has already equipped you,
when you understand that God is giving you a purpose,
these opinions, these struggles,
these all those things that try to hold you back, man,
they really don't matter as much.
They don't have as much power in your life.
This isn't a message to say that you're not going to go through anything
because you're going to go through a lot.
This is the world.
You're going to go through hard times.
None of us are exempt from the storm.
None of us are except from the struggle.
None of us are except from hate.
None of us are exempt from criticism.
Then there is an upgrade version of you that is coming because you work for.
It's not given to you.
You earn it by every day rededicating yourself to get up to go after your goals and dreams.
Now, what are your goals and dreams?
There are pictures of what's possible when you commit yourself to be more than you work.
The only person that can get in our way is us.
It's me.
It's you.
It's not those people that don't like you.
You're giving them power.
Get up and wake up.
And be conscious of what is creeping into your mind.
What's getting in there?
What are you letting in there?
What is forcing itself in there?
And what does it want you to do?
You have only one life.
So don't waste. Being controlled by someone else.
Your only competition is you.
Because if you pull out everything that's within you,
and you go to war with it against any situation,
whether it be trying out for your team,
trying to get a promotion or starting your own business,
if you bring out the best version of you,
if you fail, you can at least look at yourself and say,
I gave it my all, and there is satisfaction with giving your all.
I promise you there is a new level.
There is healing.
There is strength.
There is courage.
There is confidence.
There is a next level of greatness with your name on it.
But some of us, we so wrapped up into our self-picked.
We so wrapped up into what everybody else is doing, what everybody else is saying.
We so wrapped up into being a watcher that we don't claim it.
You claim it struggle.
You claim it generational trauma.
You claim a generational curses.
You claim it all these things.
And you allowing those things to say.
stick to your soul. You're allowing those things to become you because thoughts become things,
things become behaviors, and behaviors become us. You're allowing those things you're not claiming.
Their greatness that God gave you. I believe if you find that best version of yourself because
you committed yourself to being more, the elevation that you took from one level to the next
will propel you to a greater destination. It's the adventure alone the route, Ed.
And I would say, where's that adventure to be found?
In faith?
What's the faith?
The highest value is love and truth is its handmaiden.
It's like a marriage.
It's the same thing.
It's like, well, is this the person for me?
That's the wrong question.
How do I find out if this is the person for me?
By binding myself to them, well, maybe the same thing's true of life, right?
You bind yourself to it.
And that tighter you bind yourself to it, the more you find out what it is.
And that's like a radical embrace.
No plane gets up and doesn't have a destination.
You must have a goal.
Write them down.
And when turbulence comes, take that deep breath and realize you can ride this out.
You're buckled in with aspirations, with a plan of attack, with a plan of purpose and discipline.
there was more to you than anyone knows even you I had a really good friend of mine I went to
lunch and he said I don't know who this guy is here in front of me and he goes let me ask you
question honestly right now what are you grateful for and at the lunch I said jack shit
nothing brother there's nothing good in my life right now and I'm not exaggerating this to
you when I tell you this and this is a factual story as I'm mouthing these words
Two people walked in with an older man.
Both of them clearly were fighting cancer somehow.
Both had lost their hair.
One of the ladies had a bonnet on,
and they were barely moving in.
Both walked by our table
and gave me the most warm greeting,
the warmest smile as a stranger.
And he goes, that's pretty freaking pathetic.
You can't find anything in your life
to be grateful for right now.
And on the drive home, I'm not kidding you,
I started to stack gratitude.
I started to take inventory.
Because if you can find things to be grateful for
in that space, man, is your life going to be rich when there really are external things to be
grateful for? So my first mechanism out of that space was honestly to stack the things I was
grateful for. And I started reinforcing it over and over and over again. And what happens is there's
this reticular activating system in our brains, right? And all of a sudden, because that's the messaging
I was giving myself, all of a sudden, all these things start to come into my awareness that I'm
grateful for. I start to magnetize to myself some people that I needed to find into my life.
and that was the next layer.
I started to see things to be grateful for,
my health, my fitness, people who loved me.
And what it is, it changed my state.
When I stacked gratitude,
I changed what I did in the morning
and I changed what I did in the evening.
And so somehow by grabbing control of my morning
and by grabbing control of my evening,
I got some measure of control over the middle of my day.
I was an out-of-control person back in those days,
meaning this, I woke up, worried, stressed, fearful,
and I immediately started thinking about
a bill I had to pay, something that was wrong.
and I'm in a state of reaction to begin every, I'm talking within six minutes of waking up,
six seconds.
Most people listening to this, that's what they do.
I said, I got to grab control of my morning, and I set up routines in my morning.
Maybe they served me, maybe they didn't, but they were things I could deliver on doing for myself.
That which you do not hate, you will eventually tolerate.
And I think that identifies most people's lives.
In other words, they average becomes sort of like this slow asphyxiation.
It's almost like an anesthetic, and that over time we become kind of immune and dulled to the average that we're becoming.
I know this is true, at least for me, you probably experience it yourself too.
And so over time, we sort of minimize where we're at.
In other words, I'm a little pudgy instead of being, no, you're fat ass, right?
You don't magnify the degree to which the pain ought to be affecting you.
And so really what he means in that is, listen, you're going to get out of your life what you'll accept.
That's really difficult for people, I think, to understand is, look, what you think you're worth and what you're going to tolerate is absolutely what you're going to be.
bring into your life and what the outward part of your life's going to look like. And so I live by that.
Like I let myself sort of feel the pain and the difficulty of being not where I want to be in
whatever that area is. Whether it's my spirituality, my relationships, my money, I let myself feel that
pain because as you know, there's two motivators, right? There's the gaining of pleasure, right?
Wanting to go get something chasing the dream. But then there's the avoidance of pain. And for a lot
of champions, that's a pretty big driving force for them. And so at least for me, I leverage
both of those things on me to get myself to take action. This thing people think that, like,
I'll be happy when. Once I get like this big, amazing home, or once I get this car, or once I get
this relationship or an amount of money, then I'll allow myself some happiness. The problem is
the finish line always moves. You never arrive there, right? The other part is people think,
well, if I enjoy myself now, I'm going to lose my drive. In other words, if I can just wire myself
with enough pain all the time, I won't lose my driver ambition.
The truth is there's no correlation between the two at all.
There's no relationship between you feeling complete pain all the time and losing drive.
And so I talk about living in a state of blissful dissatisfaction.
And really, the best example of that would be like if you've ever, I love a good meal, right?
You know, if I bought into a great piece of steak, if you're a steak eater like I am,
you take that first bite, it's like complete bliss, right?
There's no correlation between how great that tasted and your lack of desire for the next bite.
In fact, that bliss causes you to want more of it.
And so the more we can be into a reward ourselves with bliss,
we're not gonna lose our dissatisfaction.
We're not gonna, we're not gonna lose that.
And so for me, our brains, there's dopamine hit you get
when you do something successful.
If you constantly cheat yourself out of that hit, right,
biomechanically in your body, less and less in the future
where you want to achieve the next level, the next dream,
the next step.
And that's why so many people stall out in life.
They didn't, they got to a certain point,
and they cheated themselves out of the bliss, out of the celebration.
It's important that we celebrate our wins.
We celebrate our lives because it causes us to want the next bite.
It keeps us hungrier, not the reverse.
And so for me, I want to live in a state of being grateful and blissful now,
not waiting for some future place or date that may never arise.
Self-confidence is really self-trust.
So the first thing is, the people I know that are really happy are very self-aware.
In fact, the best entrepreneurs I know are very self-aware.
They're aware of their shortcomings, right?
They want to improve them.
They want to get to the next version of themselves all the time.
And so for me, self-confidence comes because I didn't have it.
And I think anytime you meet somebody like yourself or myself who might now appear self-confident,
it's because I really had to find tools and resources because I was so insecure and shy
and introverted.
So I had to find techniques and resources to build that up in me.
And for me, it's very simple.
It's the promises that I keep to myself.
If I have a habit over and over beginning to stack one on top of the, you know,
the other of keeping promises I make to me, not other people. In other words, the minute you
begin to get external in your life, worrying about what other people think about you, right? You've lost
all control, and it never fills you up. People's admiration, people's gratitude towards you
will never fill you up. It's your own. It's your own inside. And so for me, self-confidence
comes from keeping the promises I make to myself. And the other part of it is being aware
I'm doing it. In other words, most people don't give themselves enough credit all the time.
aware of these 20% things and not aware of the 80 right and that's why the dosage is so
important too you've nailed it it should be 80 20 right because people get addicted to this I'm
not good at this people don't like this about me I don't feel good instead of focusing on the 80
and stacking up wow I did eat what I said I was going to today I didn't get up when I said I was
going to I made the amount of phone calls I treated people in such a way I promised myself it's not
just doing those things it's rewarding it's being aware of it and stacking that up when I work with
athletes, the successful athletes I work with, when they're in a slump, it's never that they can't
hit a ball anymore or make a shot or swing a golf club. They've lost their self-confidence. Somewhere
along the way, they've lost the ability to focus on the things they are great at and stacking
those promises they make to themselves. And the way I get them to break their slump is not correcting
their swing or getting them positive. It's getting them to acknowledge the small promises,
showing up the batting practice, or really hitting that extra bucket of balls, beginning to reward
themselves for the extra promises they keep to themselves, puts them back in a state of self-confidence,
all of a sudden they're hitting the ball grading. The definition of a life well-lived.
For me, a life well-lived is a life that is not about victories or losses, but about a continuous
process of growth, a continuous process of evolution, a continuous process of adventure, curiosity,
bewilderment, and awe, one in which you don't go quietly into that good night.
at the end of the race, but instead you rage and rage and rage against the dying of the light.
Define life according to your measures of success, but it really is things I believe,
like expressing your power, doing work you find meaningful regardless of what the world thinks,
finding people around you who love you, enjoying nature, you know, serving people, being a good
human being.
I finally realized there's something
inside of us more than our limits.
Today, all of us have an impact.
The difference between having an impact and not having impact is a decision.
It's not resources, it's not money, it's all there, it's a decision.
So I want to talk a little bit about mindset today, about thinking, about how we think,
because ultimately it's the most critical thing.
What distinguishes us as humans from every other animal,
what distinguishes one human for another is how we think.
And I want to encourage you to do that.
I want to encourage you to think in what I call a bold and abundant mindset.
Because how you think matters and it changes everything in your business, in your life, everything.
We have control of our minute, our hour, our day, our week, our month, and our year.
Stop running around being on the receiving end of whatever people want to dump on you.
And when you're hanging out with negative, dark, and dysfunctional people,
people. You cannot expect yourself to go to sleep at night and rest. You cannot expect yourself
to feel good about your day when you're including negative and dysfunctional people in your day.
At the end of the day, we are a bunch of people on a little planet in a huge galaxy, and before
you know, we're going to be a bunch of dust. And the great billionaires get buried next to the
taxi drivers and the pizza makers, and we are not that big a deal. And I think all the
that really matters is while we are alive, you know, do your best to use every day as a vehicle
to birth your talents into the world. And secondly, if you do that, you're going to serve the
world and raise the world with you. And that all just comes from inner power. I mean, that's just
driving your power from the place within. You know, and that's where you get grace and that's
where you get great creativity. That's where you get boundless energy because it's not about
addicted to what the world thinks of you. Because when you're trying to differentiate, when you're
trying to do something different, there's going to be that gut moment, that gut sense,
is this right? Is this not right? If you're not, if you're not having doubt,
you're not pushing the boundaries far enough.
