Starting point is 00:00:01 All success is preceded by single-minded concentration on a single task for a long period of time before it's accomplished. There are no successful people who have not developed the ability to concentrate without diversion or distraction on the one thing. The bar for excellence has never been so low. Most of your competition quits after the first sign of difficulty because they'd never known what hard feels like. If it's hard for you, it's hard for everyone. And most people avoid hard things, which is why you can beat more. Most people. Rather, a lazy man is a man who prays for things he's not willing to sweat for.
Starting point is 00:00:41 These are the years when a man changes into the man he's going to become the rest of his life. Just be careful when you change into. And every day the same answer came back to me. Do you want to be on your deathbed knowing that you could, but you didn't? Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Most of us prepared for years, 10, 20 years for one night where preparation met opportunity. That's winning. And having the same mentality, the same energy, the same passion, and love for what you're doing years later.
Starting point is 00:01:23 That's what it takes. That's commitment. Most people want an instant. They don't want results. If you want results, it's going to take hard work for you. years. You have to struggle. You have to struggle. The bigger the struggle, the bigger the peace. The bigger the suffering, the more peace. All those bad days, all those days you don't want to do shit. You have to be your own motivator, your own coach, your own trainer, your own everything.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Whatever gets you motivated, it's got to be here at the tip of your brain at all times. Because in those dark moments, you got to pull it out. It's a journey of a lifetime, like life is a journey. just achievers, high achievers, elite people like competitors, right? They look at life as a process, as evolution, as a journey. That's how they view things. When they encounter it, they don't just look at the moment as the moment. They look at it as a part of something that can make them even greater. That's how they process problems, opposition, adverse.
Starting point is 00:02:24 When things happen, it's not like it's an isolated incident. It's more so the thought process of, this is something once I get on the other side of it, I have another tool in my arsenal will make me a better person. It's just a perspective in how you view life, right? It's a journey. It's a process. Remember when you were 12 years old?
Starting point is 00:02:43 Remember who you thought you were going to be? There was no limit to what was possible. You believed you could be anything. Then slowly, the adults in your life started planting seeds of doubt, started telling you to be realistic, started telling you to play it safe, you got to go to college,
Starting point is 00:02:59 you got to get a job, you got to do what they did, Now you find yourself waking up, picking up your phone, scrolling, going to work, scrolling, coming home, scrolling. Same routine, same conversations, same problems. You may look back and think your 12-year-old self was naive and didn't understand how the world works, but they were right. Whoever your 12-year-old self wanted to be, that's who you're supposed to be.
Starting point is 00:03:23 That version of you had a clearer vision of who you're supposed to be than you do right now. Because your vision for your life has been poisoned with the limitations the justifications and the excuses other people planted in your head. The fact is you're not going to feel right until you ruthlessly chase what sets your soul on fire. You just do the work and you get there. The human mind, the human body, the human psyche is so pliable. You can literally become anyone and anything. Multiply that over time and experience and don't quit even when it sucks.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I want you to, first of all, not tired, not quit, not give up. Right? Because every time you stop, every time you start, and every time you stop, and every time you start, you're messing up your momentum. I want you to have a stamina, figure out what your pace is, don't operate at anybody else's pace, find your pace, and you stay at their pace. The most important question you ask is what pain do you want in your life? What are you willing to struggle for? Anything worthwhile is going to require some degree of pain and struggle. So, if you're oriented toward the pain and the struggle, you're probably going to be more aligned with what you're capable of accomplishing rather than if you just orient toward the pleasures. Every day, sunrise, sun goes down.
Starting point is 00:04:56 So that means there is a up, there is a down. Since we are born, we have inhaled 50% of our times, we have exhaled 50% of our times. meaning always 50-50, always the exchange between left and right, up and down, bright and dark, in and out, success and failure. Our greatest challenge is that we don't know how great we really are, because we still battle with the conversations that other people have had about you. You have to begin to have a short-term memory when it comes to all the negative. Remember that your life is not defined by what others said about you, but it's about what you say about yourself.
Starting point is 00:05:42 You've got to begin to have a conversation that it starts internally and then works its way out to the rest of the word. I want you to realize this truth. Perspective is everything in life. And the beautiful thing about perspective is perspective is in your control. Nobody else can control your perspective. But when your perspective is your power, you know that things that happen to you, what happens for you? You know the things that are supposed to break you? Actually, things are going to build you.
Starting point is 00:06:14 You know the failures that happen in your life. Actually, the failure is just feedback to grow something better in your life. You think that everything the mind tells you, I need to follow. That means freedom. No, for us, it's the other way around. To learn and not follow what the mind tells you. This is the first step towards freedom. Your brain is the most powerful weapon in the world.
Starting point is 00:06:44 You got to tell your brain where you want to go and how you want to go and how you want to get there. You've got to control it. If not, it's over. Can have more than you've got because you can become more than you are. That's the challenge. Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about unbecoming. all the things that's not us so we can become the people that we're really destined to
Starting point is 00:07:18 become. There's no way you lose when you go after a dream. You don't. It always leads to something better. Always. The responsible thing to do is to listen to your heart. It wasn't hard to work at the shi job because I was always thinking about the exciting job I was going to do afterwards. And every night that I just went up on stage and if it just went moderately okay, I couldn't believe it. Have you ever had that level of excitement doing any other job that's what it's like when you're you go after a dream job so nothing nothing is worse than not going after it and so many of us we're afraid of the silence we're afraid to be alone we're afraid because we know the voice in our head when we're
Starting point is 00:08:14 alone is one that doesn't lift us up but brings us down and it might seem and it will be cold and you'll be lonely. But I promise, as you work through that cold and dark place, you will find who you are. You will find your voice. You'll understand who you are when there's no support around you because I hate to break it to you. That's going to happen on this path to growth and this path of success.
Starting point is 00:08:40 The thing that wakes you up and tells you, I've got greatness in me, I've got the ability to overcome, I've got a champion inside of me, I've got something that you that it's unique about me that the world has never seen before. But you've got to begin that conversation internally. Because until you believe it, no one else will. But the moment you make it your will, to overcome every obstacle, overcome every negative,
Starting point is 00:09:04 to overcome everyone that has ever told you you would fail, you have to have those haters. You need them. So you can prove them wrong by being strong. But the strength that you begin to display is not just on the outside. It begins internally. Time is the currency we're playing with in every moment of our lives.
Starting point is 00:09:24 It's a sense of point of our influence. I talk about the roulette table of my life. It's the frame I think through where we wake up in the morning with these 24 chips. If you spend eight hours sleeping, you wake up with six, 16 chips left. And how you place those chips on this roulette table that sits in front of us just before the wheel spins every day, determines all of our outcomes in our lives. There are many things in this world that we all wish weren't true. There are many things that we want to be that just aren't. The game that you're playing is human psychology.
Starting point is 00:09:52 There is no greater control. There is no greater control than control over oneself. Every day that you're working to build something, whether it's a business, whether you're trying to be the greatest parent of all time, it doesn't matter. If you fail to understand that the name of the game is changing yourself, acquiring skills,
Starting point is 00:10:14 identifying the gap between who you are today and the person you want to become, and accepting that you can do anything you set your mind to without limitation so now you how you spend that time what skills you begin to acquire in order to execute against the future vision you have of yourself that is everything but you're going to have to be willing to suffer along the way that means people would become a magnet to what energy you put out but you've got to begin to let that flow from your life from your belief that I am more than a conqueror I
Starting point is 00:10:47 I am more than a victim. I am more than whatever I've gone through. Hell, I am more than anyone ever imagined, including myself. Because I didn't imagine I'd be this, but I began to paint a picture and frame it with my work day in and day out. Work this step by step. It's how you conquer a mile. You don't get there overnight.
Starting point is 00:11:07 It's not all through a sprint. Sometimes it's a marathon. But even marathons might take a year. It might take two years, but you're on your way as long as you don't quit. Right, believe in what you're doing. Sometimes all you got to do is state of course and outlast, whatever the opposition and the adversity may be, right? When it comes to whatever you consider to be success, whatever success means to you, properly define it, but always look at it in terms of do I love what I do, do I know what I'm doing.
Starting point is 00:11:38 If opposition and adversity happens, will I still believe in what I'm doing? Love what you're doing. Know what you're doing. but above all, believe in what you're doing, man. I want you to imagine that there's a power flowing into your consciousness. This power flows to and through us and it never stops. Now, when the power flows into our consciousness, we could call it thought power if you choose. You can think anything you want.
Starting point is 00:12:08 You can think anything you want. No one can cause you to think something you don't want to think. What we want to do is learn how to control the flow of this energy. We want to learn how to control the flow of thought energy and let it flow freely to and through us, improving everything with which it connects. You see, we're really in charge of our results. The results that we get in our life can be altered
Starting point is 00:12:33 because on a conscious level, you have a choice. You see those two symbols, one's negative, one's positive. There is the power flowing in. You can think anything you want. You can choose to think of what you don't want or you can choose to think of what you do want. You can look at what you do want. wrong with life where you can look at what's right with it. You do have a choice. That power,
Starting point is 00:12:53 you can build it in anything you choose. There's going to be so many hours where you will be alone. You'll feel like there's no one there to support you. And it may not be because you've been abandoned, but because those people have to tend to their own lives. Learning to be self-reliant, learning to stand in front of the fire, to face the crowd head on by yourself is what will rally the troops, that's what brings the reinforcement. So often we say, I'll go if you go, I'll stay if you stay. Be the one that goes. Be the one that steps forward into the fire, unafraid, knowing that it's not because you're going to get burned, but it's because it's going to burn off the old you. Burn off that old you and let the new you shine. You'll find that you're fireproof. You'll find that you're unstoppable.
Starting point is 00:13:46 You want to know how strong you are? Let's go test it. You say you love life. You want to live like, I'm going to show you life. Life is beautiful, but you have to accept the good and the bad as being beautiful. You can't accept the good or this is beautiful. We do somewhere our life sucks. Life is beautiful. Life gives us the ability to just know them on our journey in life.
Starting point is 00:14:10 We met them. We love something. We cared about. They cared about us. That's the purpose of life. Just enjoy what we had, what we've done. where we had one journey through it. Apparently, the stress and the worries and the fear, it arises somewhere.
Starting point is 00:14:33 And that somewhere is individually always inside one cell. But nevertheless, we try to fix this issue. We try to look for the solution. Yeah, not inside of you. We try to find a solution. find it out there. Sometimes people are too close to you to see your greatness. You're too familiar.
Starting point is 00:14:58 So what a lot of us do, we go to our spouse, we go to our friends, we go to all these people that are close to us and we try to show our gifts and our talents and they normalize your greatness. I believe this is true. I believe God will place strangers in your life to take you to higher places. So don't be surprised if your support system doesn't come from familiar faces. Don't be surprised in your support system doesn't come from blood, doesn't come from family, doesn't come from the fridge you have history with. But they're too close to you, they're too familiar with you.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Anything we get familiar with, we get to sensitized to. So the mistake that a lot of us make is we go to what's closest to us in proximity when you need to just give it to the world. We need just give it to the world and let the world validate your vision. I need you to begin to believe in yourself in such a way that nothing can shake it. So what if you take a loss? So what if you, you've lost something for a moment? That loss is temporary.
Starting point is 00:16:07 That L that you took is a lesson. But once you get that lesson, God help those that try to teach it to you. Because once you become you, fully engaged, fully believing, nothing will stop you. Ever you feel negative or unhappy about anything, you say, wait a minute, I'm responsible. I'm responsible for my life
Starting point is 00:16:45 I'm responsible for what happens I can't change the past so I'm not going to spend a second worrying about the past I'm going to become so busy working on my future and my goals that I don't have time to think about the past leasing comes from
Starting point is 00:17:05 scarcity and fear self-loathing and insecurity if they don't like me then I'm not enough Well, you know, any great genius, the great women and men of the world stood alone, even if they were an army of one. If you look at the great producers of the planet, they were ridiculed before they were revered. You can change the world or you can be liked by everyone. You don't get to do both.
Starting point is 00:17:36 When you know within yourself that there's something you want to do, and I believe that all of us were born with a purpose, that all of us have something that we are supposed to do, that all of us have some goodness within us, and that goodness gives us a responsibility to manifest our greatness. And when you know that, you can feel it in your guts and you know that you're deliberately operating below your potential, you've gotten comfortable. You stop expanding, you stop stretching,
Starting point is 00:18:02 you stop challenging yourself, let me share something else with you. Not only it's possible for you to have your dream, but it's necessary. It's necessary that you have it, that you work on it, that you develop yourself, that you go for what is yours in the universe. People wonder, well, what's the meaning of life?
Starting point is 00:18:25 Like, what's it all about? What justifies the suffering and the misery and all of that? It's like, well, that's what justifies it. It's like you put yourself up against that. You think, okay, with all of this pushing against me, how much can I push back? Could I move the horror an inch back with all the strength that I have at my disposal?
Starting point is 00:18:50 And the answer to that is, yeah, you can. It makes you better with regards to yourself, but it also makes the world a better place. So when it comes to your life, when are you going to stop saying easier and said than done and start saying, no matter how impossible it may seem, no matter how many people doubt me,
Starting point is 00:19:13 no matter how many failures I run into on this journey of success, I'm going to get it dirt. That's the monster that you have to have. Stop thinking about a reason why you can't do it. If I'm the one reason why you can, why you have to, why you should. Start taking responsibility over your life. What would your life look like if you took full responsibility over your life?
Starting point is 00:19:43 You have a choice in this life. You can make moves or you can make excuses. And if you're not careful, you will allow situations in this life to cloud your perspective. And you will allow moments in this life to take away the hopes and the dreams of tomorrow. Failure. It's not final. It's formative. It's part of the journey.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Are you going to learn if you don't ever fail? No failure is fuel for your future. No matter how many people have hurt you, right, the pain might not be your fault, but the healing is your responsibility. The setback might not be your fault, but the comeback is your responsibility. What happened to you happen to him.
Starting point is 00:20:35 It doesn't have to be your whole story. You're literally a choice away from a new beginning. A choice. That's it. And a commitment away from a new life. accept and change. Accept what's happened and then change your life from it. What idea are you setting all? Write your ideas down.
Starting point is 00:21:05 And then, once you get that idea, take the lead. Take the lead. See, a lot of people get the ideas and just walk around with her. Take the leave. See, it's out in the universe. If you don't take the plunge, I guarantee you, somebody else will. Take the plunge. Go into action.
Starting point is 00:21:25 And ladies and gentlemen, you will be surprised of how things will come together. When you're an adult, you have to parent yourself. Here's the rub. You're never, ever, ever, ever going to feel like doing the things you need to do in order to have what you want. You're always going to need to push yourself.
Starting point is 00:21:54 You're always going to need to parent yourself. I believe you're happiest, not when you're... watching TV. You're not happiest when you're playing with your apps. You're not happiest when you're looking for likes. You're not happiest when you're fooling around. You're happiest when you're growing. You're not your past. You don't have to be your past. You're not the mistakes that you made. Just because you made mistakes doesn't mean you are one. But you have to make that choice to own it. Faith is some sort of things hopeful and the evidence of things of things not seen. Your imagination is the evidence of things not seen. You know why they say is not
Starting point is 00:22:52 seen? Because your imagination, you are the only one who can see it. So you know what that means? All that stuff you've ever imagined is just been God showing you a preview of a coming attraction he has for you. The problem with your imagination is you tenant to the wrong people. Confidence is arrogance under control. But this is what you should be careful of. Don't you ever cross that line into arrogance? Because arrogant people stop growing.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Erigant people stop developing because arrogant people think they have arrived. Be as confident as you can be without crossing the line into arrogance. You can't wait until life isn't out anymore before you decide to be happy. Staying loyal to what you said you were going to do. long after the mood you're sending his left in. That's commitment. So when it's inconvenient to do so, you still gonna do so.
Starting point is 00:23:58 When it gets real, are you still gonna stay loyal to what you said you're gonna do? Yeah, I go here, go to that dark place. I call it the dark room. Well, you're alone, no cell phones, no music, no TVs, no computers. You by yourself, very few people wanna be alone anymore. They want to be around, noise, and people, and they have to, you can't think.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Shut life off a little bit. Go to a dark place in your mind and figure out what the fuck you want to be. You don't know what you want to be because you haven't spent time, real time with yourself. Spend time with yourself. And once you find that passion and that purpose, your goals, your purpose, everything will they start lining up. But is a dream killer. that a lot of things that we want to do, a lot of places we would like to go, a lot of things we would like to experience, and we just stop at but.
Starting point is 00:25:07 But is an argument for our limitations. And when we argue for our limitations, we get to keep them. What if the truth is that changing your life is one away? One decision, one meeting, one conversation, one extra phone call, one extra rep in the gym. You start stacking up those one more. That's the separator. in life we don't get our goals. We get our standards.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Your biggest enemy is you. People don't understand is you against you. The only person that gets in your way is you. I need you to confront you because you don't want holding you up. I need you to confront you. I need you to look in the mirror and tell you are not going to do me like this no more. You need an antidote to suffering and it has to be deep.
Starting point is 00:25:59 And deep moves you tectonically and it's not a trivial thing. but that's better than happiness and maybe if you're lucky while you're pursuing that and while you're immersed in it you get to be happy and you should fall on your knees and be grateful for that when it happens you know it's a gift it really is a gift but
Starting point is 00:26:22 you aim to climb uphill to the highest peak you can possibly envision and that's that's better than happiness see what will cause you to procrastinate but will cause you to hide out behind fear, but will cause you to come up with all type of excuses that you can validate your in action and not acting on your dream.
Starting point is 00:26:50 And most people fail those one seconds. And then that one second leads to 20 years, 30 years, 40 years of, and that's where people start to lose it. Because now, I realize that in that one second, I go through all that. I know how it's going to feel because I failed so many times before. Failure is the ultimate thing, man. I feel so many times before, that's why I don't look at failure anymore as failure. I look at my first, second, 30 attempts.
Starting point is 00:27:27 There's a power to one more. When you start stacking up those one mores, not only if you put more contacts out into the universe, but you start believing I'm doing something most people aren't willing to do. I'm fixing to get something most people aren't going to get. The shortcut is a lie. The hack doesn't get you there. And if you want to take the easy road, it won't take you to where you want. to be. Stronger, smarter, faster, healthier, better. Free. To reach goals and overcome
Starting point is 00:28:04 obstacles and be the best version of you possible will not happen by itself. It will not happen cutting corners, taking shortcuts, or looking for the easy way. There is no easy way. A good human being, a fulfilled human being, doesn't need to break anyone down. All they do is want to build you up. So anybody you meet that calls you out of your name, that bullies you, that messes you up, that makes you feel not lifted,
Starting point is 00:28:49 they are dealing with something deep-rooted. There's a beautiful piece of Zen wisdom that's been shared for thousands of years. And what it says to us is this, that we don't realize that half the time, time, the thing that's weighing us down, the thing that's holding us back is what we're holding on to. What part of your mindset you're going to leave behind today? What part of it are you going to say, you know, I might need to leave that behind. I might need to let go of that. That doesn't
Starting point is 00:29:24 serve me anything. Yeah, we all are great. We all should think that we're great. There's no reason for you to not think that you're great. If you don't think you're great, ask yourself why. Why don't you think the highest of yourself? Welcome every human experience. You never know which one is going to turn it all on. Even the bad experiences. Sometimes from the bitterest experience comes the greatest awakening. So let down the barriers, take down the walls.
Starting point is 00:30:05 The same wall that keeps out disappointment, keeps out happiness. Let life touch you. Don't let it kill you, but let it touch you. There is no easy way. There is only hard work, late nights, early mornings, practice, rehearsal, repetition, study, sweat, blood, toil, frustration, and discipline. Discipline, the root of all good qualities, the driver of daily execution. The core principle that overcomes lazy, and lethargy and excuses.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Discipline defeats the infinite excuses that say, not today, not now, I need a rest, I'll do it tomorrow. Every challenge that you are facing, it belongs to your journey. It is part of your journey. Because I wouldn't assemble the story that my past equals my future. The past only equals your future if you live, there. If using a rear view in the air to guide yourself, you're going to crash. So what you've been
Starting point is 00:31:27 through is horrific. What you've been through is unjust. I'm on your side. But if you hang on to it, you have no future and you have no one to blame but yourself. Free yourself from the chains of your past. In other words, the minute you begin to get external in your life, worrying about what other people think about you, right? You've lost all control. And it never fills you up. And people's admiration, people's gratitude towards you, will never fill you up at your own. It's your own inside. You have a lot of potential as a child,
Starting point is 00:32:02 but none of that is capable of manifesting itself as freedom before you become disciplined. And discipline is a matter of the imposition of order, and the order is necessary, especially for people who are hopeless and nihilistic. And lots of people are hopeless and nihilistic, way more people than you think. And part of that is because no one's ever really encouraged them.
Starting point is 00:32:23 You're a life, you're probably, never going to exceed your identity. Your identity is the thoughts and concepts that you believe to hold really to be true about yourself. It is so easy to get lost in the day-to-day blind of what you do, what any of us do. If, at the core, I view, is a deep and unending why, for what you're doing, you've got something. Now you've got a chance to transcend what you're doing. Because if you want joy, happiness, and freedom, and extraordinary life, it will not come from blame. Never. There's no pride that comes from blank. It's why you're doing self-esteem. Self-esteem does not come from what people say about you. Self-esteem comes from what you experience about yourself.
Starting point is 00:33:18 It's a complete dynamic dance between what the Vedic tradition would call fate and free will. So fate is what is already created for you and a good example would be the place you were born. the type of family you grew up in, the socioeconomic background you had, it was already there when you walked into the world. But within that, you had choices where your free world came over. You had the choice to either do what everyone in your neighborhood did or to do something different. You had the choice to have a relationship with a particular person or not. So what happens is that we're constantly creating new spaces from which we have another choice. And so you kind of see as this dynamic dance between, okay, now I'm in this situation,
Starting point is 00:34:09 and now what is my choice in this situation? So I would say, I'm not saying it's equal. I'm saying it's a dynamic balance and a switching process where you're constantly creating a new level, and then now in that level you have a next choice. You're in service to something higher, and you begin to ask yourself, because you've been given everything, you're a composite spiritual idea that carries the infinite and ways beyond your wildest imagining, you have to live in the inquiry
Starting point is 00:34:39 of what can I give, what can I share, how can I shine, how can I radiate, you have to give up the thought of what can I get from the world. The world has nothing for you at all. There is nothing the world has for you other than an opportunity for you to give, for you to share, for you to serve,
Starting point is 00:34:57 for you to radiate, for you to activate your potential. But if you just do your vision, every single day putting one foot in front of the other committed to your desires instead of lack limitation fear doubt worry separation
Starting point is 00:35:17 not enoughness your narrative becomes I have everything that I need within me I am surrendered to something larger than my little self I am in service to it that flows through me
Starting point is 00:35:32 but fear is physical You feel your throat of your gut. So it's courage. Courage isn't mean you're not afraid. It just means you're strong enough you push through in spite of the fear, right? And courage feels different in the body. So when you go lift or you go for a sprint or a strong run or you jump that freezing water, when you push your mind, you go beyond what's comfortable,
Starting point is 00:35:52 you feel a strength inside doing that strength will help you to change your body, your emotions relationship here. And there's lots of different purposes as you go through your life. But mostly they're trying to get bad. They haven't even figured out how they're going to do. They haven't even figured out enjoy their life. Your purpose will unfold if you do the right things. It's a hard one for people because we grow up believing that we're not good enough and nothing is right.
Starting point is 00:36:19 When you talk about loving yourself, a lot of people think that that's vanity. If you can recognize that you are a being that has self-worth, if you can really recognize your own worth, then you start to treat yourself differently. And I think that's what's so very important about loving yourself is you stop beating yourself up, you stop making yourself wrong, you stop talking about how awful you are. And you start to treat yourself with a certain amount of respect. And this makes an enormous difference
Starting point is 00:36:52 because what you give out in life is what comes back to you. So if you're getting out a feeling of, I'm okay, I'm good enough as I am, and I am acceptable, and I love life and I love me and you start having gratitude for yourself and for life, then life treats you differently. The thing that people misunderstand about success is they're looking for the easiest way to get down.
Starting point is 00:37:33 When everybody goes five easy steps, 10 steps to greatness, those steps for success, they're infinite. They are infinite. You cannot count them. It doesn't matter how long you've been doing, those steps are constantly shifting. You don't know if they're there. Sometimes you have to trust that the next step is going to be there when you can't even see it. And sometimes when you step on that step, you go right into quicksand. But you've got to be able to pull yourself back out of it again. So everybody's looking for these steps and there are no steps. Those steps never, never end. And you just can't climb steps. Sometimes you've got to crawl low, those steps. And you finally get to the top and everything shifts. It's not about external validation, it's about your relationship to yourself. And you know when your head hits the pillow at night and when you wake up in the morning what that relationship looks like.
Starting point is 00:38:36 And if that's missing something, and perhaps that's a little nudge or a call to action, that you need to change things up a little bit. It's always going to be with a sticking point. And a lot of people, like I see, you know, they'll quit because it got hard. Or just because something isn't coming to them right away, they'll let them. up a little bit. Covey, he's known for saying something that was quite profound. He said, you have to jumping on what you love, what you do every day. You have to love what you do every day, because those days that are hard, those days that suck, that's where the magic is. You go do it and you get your work in anyway, because that's where you're going to find out who you are.
Starting point is 00:39:22 That's where things are going to continue to happen. And you have to just love putting in the daily work, because that's another token in the bank, if you will. Showing up, you know, striving towards your goal. When people get the challenges, they stop, you know, it's not just going to come to you. But you have to just stick with it. You have to really, really believe in what you're doing, and you have to have faith that it's going to work out.
Starting point is 00:39:47 But you got to keep quick to work in it. Because if you don't, it's not going to come to you, you know, going to fall in your lap. And sometimes when you know that, all right, I'm going to, through it right now. This is tough. Let's just take an inch forward. Let's go an inch forward today. That'll be better than going backward. You don't want to go back, but I think sometimes just, man, just knowing that it's going to be a challenge. I think sometimes that's a good thing to know. We know, okay, I don't want to, this is my goal. Boy, it's going to be a lot of obstacles in there.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So let me get in shape. Let me get a shake with my mind and my body to be able to navigate to get to where I need to get to. Well, you come into the world alone and you die a lot, my friend. And you've got to be on this journey of growth for yourself. Can't be contingent on another person. And I think a lot of people who are in pain or are looking for some grounding, often look to that other person. If I date that person, then I'm going to be okay.
Starting point is 00:40:59 It's never the case. Like, you've got to be okay with yourself in order to achieve. to attract that person, you know, into your life to begin with. I don't know how you can compel that in somebody. They've got to figure that out for themselves. Thinking of myself as the person who's just good enough to recognize that other people are better, stop demeanor. And now start thinking relentlessly about acquiring your skills.
Starting point is 00:41:24 That's it. Like, whatever. Be inspired by people that are better than you. Great. That's amazing. But don't sit there and lament, which is what I used to do, that you're not as good as them. find out how clumps can you get most time we live a life of have to do i have to study i have to work i have to do this and i have to do that i have to have to have to where did the love to go we just end up living a life of have tos and i forgot about our own selves by subscribing to the
Starting point is 00:41:59 pressures that come from all fronts in our lives we've forgotten to live our own lives We don't have time to unwind. We don't have time to spend with our own selves. We don't have time to be with nature and take a deep breath and just relish the crispness of the air. We don't have the time to do all of that. And the pressures are so high and the pace is so fast, we just don't have time for ourselves, ladies and gentlemen.
Starting point is 00:42:29 We are just so extentially in crisis all the time. And I just wonder if this is the same. life wasn't meant to be full of love and joy and happiness. I just think we're getting it a little bit wrong. So life is harm. None of us get out of here unscaked. It is hard. I'm not a poly and a minimalist on the things that cause us suffering. If you don't fix yourself with limited identities, if you do not compare yourself with anything, if you explore and not see, if you want this tree to brood with the list thing, that's why I said not the fruit root. If you count the fruits, maybe that tree is bearing more fruit than this one.
Starting point is 00:43:16 That's not the point. You nurture the root? The fullest possible nurture if you give to the root, what it has to become, it will become. A blade of grass cannot become a tree. But is it not wonderful? So I think success is a funny thing, which is we all seem to pursue it, but we don't know how to measure it or actually how to define it.
Starting point is 00:43:41 So how do you pursue something that you can't measure? I think we must all stop measuring promotions, salaries, and these things, but rather measure the momentum of your career. Does my career have momentum? Can I see it moving in the right direction? Can I see it gathering moss, you know? Can I see that it's becoming easier for me to keep the momentum? It's becoming easier for me to grow the size of this thing.
Starting point is 00:44:05 It's requiring less effort. That's the thing that we need to measure. That's the thing that we need to be cognizant of, which is the momentum of our career, is not just the markers that we think define our success. We snap, we react at the drop of a hat just because we are out of balance. People who have a balanced life know how to handle pressure.
Starting point is 00:44:29 People whose lives are not balanced sink under pressure. When you're balanced properly between order and novelty, that manifests itself to you as deep engagement. And that's a signal. And it's not merely cognitive. It's way deeper than that. That you're in the right place, doing the right thing at the right time. And everyone wants that all the time.
Starting point is 00:44:58 Images of paradox are representations of that state of being. So it's there for you, but there are preconditions that you strive to aim at the best. And that has to be your fundamental ethos. And it's a decision that despite all of the calamities of being, that your primary ethical obligation is to work for the betterment of yourself and others. How come it's seven billion meanings in the world you felt lonely? How come you lack the sense of agency, control, authority in your life? Why are you in so much emotional pain?
Starting point is 00:45:39 The loneliness, the lack of power, love control, the anxiety. These are forms of emotional pain. So my mantra on addiction is not why the addiction. but why the pain? What it actually is, is an attempt to solve a human life problem, that of emotional pain, loneliness, distress, anxiety, whatever it is. And the real question then is, what happened in my life that we incurred pain?
Starting point is 00:46:11 And then how do we deal with our pain? Because the addiction itself magnifies the pain. It multiplies it, it increases it exponentially, so it begins in pain, as I've got to be it. pain as Zechartoultli, the spiritual teacher says, and they end in pain. You have to do the process. The process is non-devotional. It's just you have to do it. All right. So if you have to do something, I don't have highs about it or lows about it. I know it has to get done. And if I let my emotions get involved in it, all right, it's not going
Starting point is 00:46:52 to get done to its best abilities. So if people say you gotta love the process and then something comes in the process that you know really well, or you have to do it. you have to do it. You take emotions out of it and you do it. The process is a non-negotiative thing. The end result is not always there. That win isn't always there. You can go through the whole process
Starting point is 00:47:17 that somebody went through didn't be as meticulous as you and they may get that win. Because winning has no loyalty to any of us. You know, people that don't work as hard, they end up getting that win. people that aren't as qualified for the job, they end up getting that win. Do you stop the process? No, you continue to get more maniacal with the process over and over and over yet.
Starting point is 00:47:48 Because it's through the humanities that you make contact with the magic of your culture. And that makes you more than nearly the child of your parents. Because you are more than nearly the child of your parents. You're the child of nature and you're the child of culture and until you understand what that means Understand that you have two sets of parents like the divide hero always has two sets of parents You you can't construe yourself properly as an individual You're not situated property in the world You don't know what your responsibilities are you can't orient your values property and you will suffer for that
Starting point is 00:48:29 Because life is so difficult you have to do something that's truly worthwhile in order to justify. Time to time you may stumble, fall. You will for sure count on this. No doubt. You will have questions and you will have doubts about your path. But I know this, if you're willing to listen
Starting point is 00:49:00 to be guided by that still small voice that is the GPS within yourself, to find out what makes. makes you come alive, you will be more than okay. You will be happy, you will be successful, and you will make a difference in the world. If you do what it is that you're called upon to do, which is to lift your eyes up above the mundane,
Starting point is 00:49:41 daily, selfish, impulsive issues that might beset you and attempt to enter into a contractual relationship with that which you might hold in the highest regard. whatever that might be to aim high and to make that important above all else in your life that that fortifies you against the vicissitudes of existence like nothing else can't truly believe that that's the most practical advice that you could possibly receive as long as there's time on the clock it's not over as long as there's breath in your body it's not over as long as you have a desire to still chase after it. It's not old. It doesn't matter how old you are. It doesn't matter how weak you think you become how many times you fall and no matter how many mistakes you've made. It's not over until you quit. And I need you to believe in yourself. I need you to believe that quitting
Starting point is 00:50:47 is not an option, not for you. It costs you too much to get to bear you off, to give up, to quit. That cannot be your moment. That cannot be who you are. You are. You're not be who you are. You are not allowed to quit because those talents, those gifts are not just for you. The things that are in you, we need. The things that are in you, the team needs. The things that are in you have never been on earth before until you arrive. But if you quit, if you give up, then it's old. And it's not for you or give up.
Starting point is 00:51:24 It's not just upon you. It's upon everything that everybody's ever prayed before you ever ride on a Many dreams die while suffering. And many of us out here have suffered. And when you're suffering, I'm not talking about this physically. I'll talk about emotionally, spiritually. It could be a relationship. When you're suffering, you give up on the very things that you wanted the most.
Starting point is 00:51:48 So when the suffering got too much, my dream died. And pretty much, I almost died with it. And overcoming my demons and facing my demons every day, I would have never been up here today. You can't outrun your demons. your demons. They'll always know where you're hiding. Trust me at that. And I'm in with this. Don't stop when you're tired. Stop when you're done. Everybody that you fight is not your enemy and everybody that helps you, not your friend.
Starting point is 00:52:21 You could be the greatest of all time. But you don't know that if you quit. Most people aren't obsessed with their goals because they don't believe they're worthy of them. It's easy to dream about what you want. But in between where you are and what you are, you want, there's a tremendous amount of stuff you've got to change and do. You have to do the work to change so that you can be the happy, fulfilled person that you were born to be. You can be world class, you can fit in with the world, you don't get to do both. This is where you got to develop the interior core, where it doesn't matter if people call you crazy. One thing I've learned is people, everyone has an opinion. Everyone has an opinion.
Starting point is 00:53:12 Why let the opinions of other people deny you from a life that will make history? When does a man or woman die? When their dreams die? When do we die? When we stop developing ourselves? Extraming our minds, challenging ourselves, raising the bar on ourselves, I will fail my way to success. If you get behind in life, it can become the thing that unites you and a sense of urgency, you can account more in six months with a sense of purpose than you have in six years.
Starting point is 00:53:57 Get focused, get confident about the fact that as long as I'm still breathing, I can win. And the only thing that we need to ignite is your win, W-H-E-N. If we can ignite there so that this moment becomes a significant moment, so that we can go from an emotional burst to down to your will and ignite your will to go after everything that's supposed to be yours. When we are young, we would sacrifice health for wealth. And when we get old and discover what life is all about, we are willing to sacrifice every bit of our wealth for one day of good health.
Starting point is 00:54:45 That most people go so far in life and then they park. They stop dead in their tracks. Why? because they take some hits. When you have a golden dream, think it not strange that you're faced the fiery furnaces of this world. You will add tribulation.
Starting point is 00:55:08 Things are going to happen to you. We can no longer keep living in our limitations, man. Like when you understand that you're worthy, God has already equipped you, when you understand that God is giving you a purpose, these opinions, these struggles, these all those things that try to hold you back, man, they really don't matter as much.
Starting point is 00:55:27 They don't have as much power in your life. This isn't a message to say that you're not going to go through anything because you're going to go through a lot. This is the world. You're going to go through a hard times. None of us are exempt from the storm. None of us are except from the struggle. None of us are exempt from hate. None of us are exempt from criticism. At the end of the day, it's up to us. If we allow those things to control us, you've got to search for transformation. You've got to apply it to your life. You've got to get sick and tired of being sick and tired. You got to say enough is enough because you are created.
Starting point is 00:55:56 You can lose four rounds in a five-round fight. And in the last second, hit someone with something that you didn't think you go after it you use a skill hunter talent a gift a passion a moment it can be the death of a loved one that ignites you to greatness for their sake i'm not giving up for their sake i'll become more but do it for your own sake you got to be hungry to get up off the canvas of life and understand what willie jolly meant that a setback is a set-up for a comeback You gotta be hungry. People that are hungry are willing to do the things that they others won't do in order to have the things tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:56:49 Others won't happen. The greatest gift anyone can ever give you in life is doubt. What you do is you set yourself up on your damn crutches and you struggle up the bloody hill. That's what you do. And you struggle up the hill towards the king of God. That's what you do.
Starting point is 00:57:22 Because the alternative is to descend into the abyss. That's the alternative. And then so to say, well, do you believe? It's like, I believe that you should struggle uphill towards the city of God on your crutches. That's what you should do. You know, you can lend a hand to someone all that you don't
Starting point is 00:57:39 want to take the burden away from them entirely because there's something noble about struggling up the damn hill, right? There's something, that's adventure. That's the call to proper being. It's like, well, we don't need to forget this. You know, we don't need to forget it. So what would happen if you didn't have to find it?
Starting point is 00:58:01 What would happen if you could simply summon it? And I think that that changes everything for people. If you believe that there is one thing that you were ordained to do, to pick your ever-specific thing, well, then you're always going to be dissatisfied as you bounce from one thing to another, arms fold, and say, nope, that's not it, that's not it. What if instead we could simply say, I am choosing to be passionate about what I do?
Starting point is 00:58:27 And my purpose is whatever I am doing. I'm going to be here for it. I'm present for it. I'm nearly going to do it. And so it doesn't matter that you overshoot continually. Because as you overshoot, even if you don't learn what you should have done, you're going to continually learn what you shouldn't keep doing. and if you learn enough about what you shouldn't keep doing,
Starting point is 00:58:54 then that's tantamount at some point to learning at the same time what you should be doing. I've got to get up and get going. I've got to become unstoppable. And I'm here to tell you right now, becoming unstoppable is a thing. It is very real and has everything to do with who you want to become
Starting point is 00:59:15 and has nothing to do with who you are today. We can't have such a scarcity mindset. that we think that only one person is great. Greatness does not mean you beat everybody else. Greatness to me means that you went right to the edge of what you were capable of doing in this moment. So I began to think about the person I wanted to become. I stopped worrying about who I was right now,
Starting point is 00:59:48 and I began to paint a vision of how the person would act that I want to become, and I began to act in that fashion. Many of us never realize our greatness because we become sidetracked by secondary activity. We spread ourselves too thin. Don't know how to say no. And we find ourselves doing all kinds of things and never ever have time to do those things that we need to do to work on ourselves. And then there goes a second. That goes another second.
Starting point is 01:00:18 There goes another second. And we can't stop and hold time. And before you know what you wake up one day and you're behind in your dreams and your bills. And so it feels to me like talent is a betrayer. It is undermining all of the people who put all that work into skill. Don't call someone skillful, talented, because they're not. We're skillful. The most important question, any man must decide for himself,
Starting point is 01:00:50 is whether or not he lives in a friendly or hostile universe. You can choose to put in the world. to gain the skill. And if that's true, that's really good news. Because it means you're not stuck where you are. It means you can go to where you want to go. And it's really good news because skills can be acquired. We have all pulled a web of lies over our own eyes.
Starting point is 01:01:17 And the web of lies is what you tell yourself about what's possible for you and for the world. And once you get that web of lies over your eyes, you simply see it as reality, and you don't understand that each one of those fundamental beliefs is alterable, that you could choose to believe something else. In fact, you don't even realize that they are beliefs. There's something in each and every one of you
Starting point is 01:01:40 that waits and listens to the voice of the genuine in yourself. It will be perhaps the only guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, All of your life, your days will be spent on the ends of strains that somebody else holds. Not happiness. Forget about that. If it comes, well, great, accepted. Dignity, nobility, character, truth, responsibility, beauty. Those are the things to aim for. You get to choose whether you're living in a friendly or a hostile universe. no objective reality. It just is what it is. You're going to get what you see. You're going
Starting point is 01:02:32 to get what you focus on and you see what you focus on. So the more you focus on, the world works against me. I've got bad luck. The more you're going to see proof of that. You're going to seek it out. You're going to act in accordance with that belief. If on the other hand, you believe the human potential is nearly limitless. I don't care how good you are, I don't care how talented you are, I don't care how much you work on yourself, there are some times when things are going to go right. But I really believe everything you do in life should be in service of your goals. And the moment that you're acting out of alignment with your goals, you either have a problem with your goal or with your behavior, one of them is going to have to change.
Starting point is 01:03:16 I suggest to you that if you are facing a challenge, don't stop. Stay busy, work your plan, Continue to do those things that you know that work for you after you have evaluated yourself in the situation Continue to move stay busy stay busy stay busy The only thing ultimately that's ever going to matter in your life is how you feel about yourself when you're by yourself
