Starting point is 00:00:30 Here we go. Someone's already claiming this is our year. Someone else said that last year too. A round of Jamison, Ginger and Lime arrives at a table. Smooth enough for kickoff, smooth enough for extra time. New friends pulling up a stool. Debates about whether that was a handball.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Cheers rising like a roar around the room. Because match days are about the shared moments. How did Jameson to your match day lineup? Jameson, it's what you bring. Please enjoy our products responsibly. I think you're forgetting again that this is exactly what you asked for. You wanted more growth, so you get more responsibility. You wanted more opportunities, so you get less time.
Starting point is 00:01:13 You wanted more strength, so you get more challenge. What don't you, why do you keep forgetting that? Everything you've ever asked for in this life comes at a cost, and the mistake you're making is that when you go for something and you see a cost, you turn back. The cost is what leads to growth. The cost is what most people won't pay. The cost is what gets you to the point you've always wanted. So the next time you go after something that has a cost,
Starting point is 00:01:40 remind yourself that's what it takes to get it. It's okay. Wherever you've been in the past, that's bad. If you're not still there, your companion, which is yourself, needs to feel free to tell you, it's okay. That was a bad place to be. that was a bad person to be but you're not that person anymore and you're not in that place anymore
Starting point is 00:02:03 but if you're with yourself and yourself is always beating you up you're not going to want to be with yourself don't miss the lesson right get the lesson when you fail get the lesson when you come up short get the lesson when it don't go your way get the lesson when you don't get what you want get the lesson when they don't say to you what you expected to hear get the lesson then Because oftentimes we get the lesson when it plays in our favor. We get the lesson when it goes our way. We get the lesson when we get the victory. Get the lesson when you came up short.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Do you watch the film when you failed? Do you watch the film when you got beat? Do you watch the film when you got, I'm talking about, destroyed. Get the lesson then. I've listened to myself enough to know. I know what I know. In order for things to change, you've got to be willing to get up
Starting point is 00:03:07 and do something. You don't have to be perfect, but you've got to make a move. Excitement comes from achievement, fulfillment comes from the journey that got you there. The people, the moments, the work, sacrifice,
Starting point is 00:03:27 dedication, the commitment, the hard times, the great times, all that it encompasses. That's the fulfillment, the journey. What's the one change you know you need to make, that if you made that one change about you, you know that there would be a ripple effect that would stack and completely alter the direction of your life. So what's the compelling reason for you? The one decision is the catalyst for change, but we're not done yet.
Starting point is 00:03:56 For a change to be real, you have to condition it. You condition the change repeatedly. There has to be a practice or a habit that you didn't have before. that conditions that change. Every single good thing that happens in our lives, everything comes at a cost. There's nothing for free. Everything comes at a cost.
Starting point is 00:04:17 But at the same time, everything we struggle with has opportunity and lesson that goes with it. It's always balanced. All you need to know to change anything is, A, you're never going to feel like it. You're never going to feel ready to start that business. You're never going to feel ready to have that hard conversation.
Starting point is 00:04:34 You're never going to feel like getting out of bed. You're never going to feel like getting out of bed. You're never going to feel like, It's a good idea to apply for that promotion. We're designed to stay comfortable and safe. So if you know that you're, A, never gonna feel like it, and B, that no one's coming, it's up to you. You're not a kid anymore.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I'm dead serious about this. So many of you are waiting to be picked by who? The fact that it is painful is the reason that it's working. Everybody else that has to try and step out into this new life faces this same thing too. every single person does. That's why most people don't do it. This is what hard feels like,
Starting point is 00:05:14 and this is why most people don't went. So continuing to push through and almost seeing that level of discomfort as a signal, it's like a way marker that's being planted in the ground. Because if it was all just super easy, well, how are you going to get anything different to what everybody else has got
Starting point is 00:05:29 if you do the same thing that everybody else does? And one of the best selectors for people not doing a thing is discomfort. So the route that has a lot of discomfort down it, usually on the other side of that ends up with something which is valuable. How much courage does it take to do something that you're not afraid of? The answer's none. Everybody wants to have courage, but they want the fear to go away first.
Starting point is 00:05:51 But that's not how it works. If there's no fear, then there is no courage. So we need to stop viewing fear as something that shouldn't be there or a sign or omen that something's going to end badly. Fear is always showing you the exact place where you will discover great courage within yourself. You can do anything. You can get up any hour, read any book, take any class, make any change, develop any skill, do any discipline. I mean, you can do it all when this how and the why, or when the why starts to grow, the how gets simple. The great word that every great artist, entrepreneur, aptly, icon lives by and it's patience.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Well, sometimes it takes 30 years of anonymity before lightning strikes. Don't do your craft for the reward. Do it for what it makes a few. Whenever you wake up in the morning, today is going to be a great day. You have to nudge your brain, right? We have a conscious mind. We have an unconscious mind.
Starting point is 00:07:07 We have a self-image. And your subconscious is paying attention to the words that the conscious mind is saying. And so if you're like, oh, I don't want to get out of bed, today is going to be a bad day. You're going to have a... bad day because you just programmed your subconscious mind to do that every day when my feet hit the floor today is going to be a great day you know what you need to do yes it might suck it might be challenging
Starting point is 00:07:36 and uncomfortable and you don't want to do it but that doesn't change the fact that is what you need to do stop avoiding it take on some responsibility and rise to the occasion you're being tested prove you want it as much as you say you do. How can you hit a target? You don't even have. The truth is, ladies and gentlemen, we must have goals if we're going to do anything. Goals do a lot of things.
Starting point is 00:08:08 For example, they enable you to chase the blues away. I've never known anybody who was truly depressed, who had specific and long-range goals. And what goals do is they create activity. And you see, activity as you work towards reaching them, creates the very excitement which you need in order to accomplish or reach your objectives. Logic will not change an emotion, but action thrill. What if you just did the thing? You know that thing? The thing you've been planning to do?
Starting point is 00:08:47 The thing you're gearing up for? The thing you keep telling yourself you're going to do tomorrow? What if you just dropped what you're doing right now and then went and did it? Because let's be honest about what you're doing. You continuously kick the can down the road, then you get to whatever day you said you were going to start the thing, then you find another reason to kick the can down the road a little bit further. Because as long as you're going to do it later, you don't have to do it right now. But what if you did? Serious people, the people that actually achieve their goals, they look for the opportunities to do it right now.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Not just this week, not just today, but right now. Then when we get to the day that you said that you were going to start, there are already steps ahead of you because they just decided to do it right now because they actually want to achieve their goal. You just pretend to. You can't stop. You can't quit. You can't say, I'm a failure.
Starting point is 00:09:37 You're not a failure. You're not. Trust in yourself. And step forward. Put one foot in front of another. Losing is not an option with me. Not being successful is not an option. When you make not being successful,
Starting point is 00:10:05 it's not an option for you. That's mean your life is going to change. Some of you are complacent and you're cool with not being successful. I'm not cool with that. You know, when you say you're going to do something and then you follow through and you do it, not not at the end when you, you know, you cross the marathon, you finish it, or your hands raised. I'm talking about right now the small steps in between the big successes everyone sees. No one sees this.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Failure is the price of greatness. Failure is the highway to success. You've got to get in, like you've got to get in, like you've got to, leave no stone on turns. You've got to develop this hardiness and resilience and anti-fragility so that you are willing to make mistakes. The discomfort of growth is always so much more value than the illusion of safety. It sounds like a lot of work. Growing sounds like a lot of work. Setting your intentions and goals sounds like a lot of work. Being an excellent person sounds like a lot of work, but what's the alternative? You get to the last hour of your last day and you look back on your life and you think about all the potential and genius you've left on the table.
Starting point is 00:11:12 You think about the experiences he didn't have. Part of building is you get to know your strengths and you get to know your talents. That's the reward, not the outer win. You think that purpose or passion just kind of happens. That's not true. The biggest thing that people don't realize is that it's something. you have to be super intentional about. When you wake up every day,
Starting point is 00:11:41 you have an opportunity to bring passion into your life. You have an opportunity to decide how you're gonna show up with a sense of purpose today. And this lack of intentionality is the reason why you feel stuck. Should we be ambitious? Of course we should. But not selfishly, we should be ambitious enough
Starting point is 00:12:03 to think that we could change the world, turn it into something divine. And we can. You're blessed to be in the position you're in. And even if things are tough, even if, you know, you're going through a tough season right now, you're still blessed. And I know it's a tough, a tough way to think, but you are because there's something in that season. There's something in that struggle that you're going through right now that is going to help you later in life. One of the most important things you could realize is that you're not alone.
Starting point is 00:12:36 You're not the first to go through it. You're not going to be the last to go through it. Oftentimes it happens. You just, you feel like you're alone, and you feel like it's only you, and you're in your bubble, just gotta remember. Hold on to that fundamental quality of faith. Have faith.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And on the other side of your pain is something good. I'm not good enough, smart enough. I'm not talented enough to do that. Some people are. If you lack talent, you can't sit back and say, I start in half an hour. I can't do that. I got to start now.
Starting point is 00:13:22 And after I get back from starting, I got to start again. Stop waiting, just start. What are you waiting for? The more you wait, the more you're in the vibration of waiting too. The vibration of waiting and the vibration of being are two very different vibration. Because there's no future. The future, by the time the future gets here, it's this moment right now.
Starting point is 00:13:41 So it's, I'm waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting. I'm in the vibration of waiting. I'm in the vibration of waiting. It's just you stay there. The moment, the reality shifts is the moment you start being in. What you do is you don't run away. You go forward. That's the main thing because the only thing that could make you do
Starting point is 00:13:59 is drive you away from your purpose. You get right back on track and you keep moving forward and you keep trusting the process and you keep grinding and you keep searching. That's what's going to keep you on track. People are incapable of picking a direction and going. They observe the possibilities. They get paralyzed by all the possibilities.
Starting point is 00:14:20 They refuse to move forward on all the possibilities, and then time passes them by. So it's very important that you make a decision and you go down that path. You commit to that path. Life doesn't care who you are. But all of a sudden, if you look at it that way, you become a victim of everything that happens bad, right?
Starting point is 00:14:40 Oh, it happened to me because of this. No, it happened to me because of this. No. happens to everybody and it might happen to different people at different times at different severities but the reality is life happens whether you want it to or not so the sooner you can sit there and say you know what it is where it is and guess what that person's got problems and so there's that person and that person that person so the sooner I can come to terms of my own reality the sooner I can say hey this is what it is I'm not going to let this take me down the sooner I have
Starting point is 00:15:07 acceptance the sooner I have forgiveness the sooner I can look back on that and say you know what here's what I'm going to take from it rock on I'm out and I'm going to keep moving I'm going to keep on Train the mind and energy to focus it exactly where you want it and when you want it to be. You are completely detached and undeterred from external ups and downs. You're able to navigate anything that seems tough, challenging, fun excitement with the same amount of being ecropoised and balanced in equanimity without being too excited in pleasure or being too depressed in pain. Just find something of why did I go through this, why did life put me through this, then all of a sudden, you can deal it.
Starting point is 00:16:03 If you stay on that path and people are jumping off, guess what happens? How you view yourself, how you talk to yourself, how you look in the mirror, and how you perceive yourself, that's the same way you're going to see the world, the same way you're going to talk to the world, and the same thing you're going to get out of the world. So you better be real careful on the story you tell yourself on how you feel about yourself. Otherwise, what are you going to expect? So the noise that I describe in life, whether it's your parents' expectations,
Starting point is 00:16:45 whether it's society's expectations, whether it's your partner's expectations, all of those are like noise in the bat down. And that noise dries out your ability to understand the mind and the intelligence. This episode is brought to you by L'Oreal Group. Beauty is a powerful force that moves us. You're going, this sucks, you know, but I'm going to make the best. Small step, big priority, small incremental changes.
Starting point is 00:18:23 And no one saved me. You have to face yourself. I figured out the one piece I was missing. I thought it was cars. I thought it was women. I thought it was money. I thought it was everything. The one piece I was missing was me having the courage
Starting point is 00:18:37 to face myself. I made this person. I made this person by diving in to the insecurities that life gave me. Because now they're yours. They're yours to own. If you're not smart, car yourself dumb. It's okay. If you're fat, call yourself fat. I used to be 300 pounds. We want to talk so soft to ourselves. We're looking for that recovery day. It's not coming. And that's the mentality I took with me. It wasn't like someone
Starting point is 00:19:05 came down here and guided me through life. When you figure this out on your own, the amount of pride and dignity and self-respect you have, that's why I walk around the streets, with the backpack and just like, I don't need anything else. Yeah. You figure it out by going inside yourself, by callousing over the victim's mentality. So whether it's traffic or it's being in a horrific car accident, we are completely in control of our emotional state.
Starting point is 00:19:37 And the key that unlocks the door to emotional immensibility, if you will, is acceptance. We can choose to be, consciously choose to be. First, you accept what you can't change. And then you go, what emotion would best serve me? And I think more often than not, it's gratitude and happiness for the most part or optimism, you know, as an emotion. But we can be the happiest and the most grateful we've ever been while we are going through the most difficult, painful, scary time in our lives. And it doesn't, and here's the thing, it just makes it that much easier.
Starting point is 00:20:10 It doesn't mean that it doesn't suck, but it means that you're not letting the fact that it sucks completely control your emotional emotional well-being. You're going, this sucks, you know, but I'm going to make the best of it. I think one of the biggest challenges with change is too much pressure, especially when someone has other challenges that affect the challenge of distraction. And I would look at small incremental changes, small changes, but a big priority in their life. The challenge I find is that too many of us are trying to change too many things all at the same time. It's like we want to wake up early and start going to the gym and eat right all in the same week. It's impossible. Right? It's impossible. No one can do that.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Small step, big priority. Try and change one small thing, but make it the biggest priority of the week. What we do are you try to make big steps and make them all small priorities. And so we want to shift that, right? Shift it the other way around. You see a child, a child doesn't start learning how to eat proper food and walk at the same time. Like children have moments in their life where certain things start evolving for them. That's how we're built, that's how we're wired. So allowing that to happen continuously, even with you. continuously even when we grow older makes it easier for that person as well.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Here is so real. In fact there are probably things that you're afraid of doing right now in your life, in your relationships and work. And the fact that you're afraid, that's robbing you of all of the experiences that you want to have in your life. I mean, if you're afraid to fly, that's going to limit your ability to travel and see the world or go visit friends. If you're afraid of public speaking, that's going to really limit your ability to express yourself and share your ideas. If you're afraid of talking to your boss or asking for a raise, that directly impacts how much money you make. Or what if you are dreaming of starting a business or you've already started a new business, but you're afraid to talk to people and you're afraid to share
Starting point is 00:22:11 your business with people? I mean, fear is something that stops us all. Fear is real. You can't You can't control the feelings that are going to rise up in your body when you're on a plane or when you're talking to your boss or when you see somebody that's attractive and you really want to go over and talk to that person. But you can always control what you think and you can always make a decision about the actions you're going to take. But the thing that's so difficult for most of us is how when you're alone you push through the excuses, the habits, the fears and actual physical constraints that you have. in your life right now so that you can make the pivot. What do you do when you have to get on a plane and you're actually terrified of flying? What do you do if you've got to give a presentation and you are afraid of public speaking? Here's what you're going to do.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Think about your brain as being in two modes. There's autopilot. We've all experienced that. Well, what is autopilot? Autopilot is the interior part of your brain. You'll hear neuroscientists and psychologists talk about the basal ganglia. Very important thing to understand is that there's a part of your brain that it's entire job is basically to execute your habits. Habits, behaviors that you repeat without even thinking about it. When you pull your pants on in the morning,
Starting point is 00:23:30 I guarantee you you either put your left or your right leg in first. Because that behavior is what researchers call a habit loop. It gets encoded as a closed loop system right here. The problem for most of us is that half of the day we're on autopilot. And that's not me making a guess. That's what researchers that study habits
Starting point is 00:23:48 and study psychology says. At half of your day, you're basically kind of checked out and you're on autopilot. And when you're checked out and you're on autopilot, any behavior pattern that you repeat can take over. And guess what are behavior patterns that we repeat? Thinking patterns. So self-doubt, worry, procrastination, overthinking, analysis paralysis, fear. Those are all thinking patterns that are habits. One of the most important things that I want people to understand is that you're actually not a worrier.
Starting point is 00:24:23 You have a habit of worry. You're not a procrastinator. You have a habit of procrastinating. Big difference. And when you understand that any behavior pattern, whether it is a thinking pattern like you doubt yourself all the time, or whether it's a behavior pattern like you drink too much, or you snap at your kids, or you micromanage your team, every one of those behavior patterns and thinking patterns can actually be interrupted and replaced using science. Now, let's talk about the second part of the brain. Drive. Drive is the mode where you're in charge of your thoughts.
Starting point is 00:24:59 It's where you are fully awake, you are present, and you are driving your thoughts and actions. When you're doing that, your prefrontal cortex is active. The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that you need in order to learn new behavior. in order to do something difficult, in order to do something uncertain, in order to do strategic thinking, and now you've got a decision to make. Are you going to drift back into the habits, or are you going to awaken your prefrontal cortex
Starting point is 00:25:27 and drive forward and focus and do something new? You have to act within five seconds. Are you going to go on autopilot and get trapped in your mind? Or are you going to 5, 4, 3, 2,1, and awaken your prefrontal cortex and drive forward? You think that you need to feel confident or courage in order to get started.
Starting point is 00:25:52 You don't. You actually just have to start, and that's the riddle of life. That lying in bed, hoping that you wake up some morning, motivated to change, that's not the answer. You actually have to learn how to push yourself.
Starting point is 00:26:05 You have to learn how to leverage the power of your decisions, and you've got to learn how to take action when you don't feel like it. Because every morning when I woke up, I did not feel confident. I felt like a loser. I felt like the world's worst parent. I felt like I had failed at every single,
Starting point is 00:26:20 single turn. See, this is the knowledge action gap. You can know what you want, you can know what you should be doing, but how do you make yourself do it when the feelings and the motivation isn't there, when all you got is fear. You cannot control what triggers you and the fact that you may rise up with anger, you may rise up with self-doubt, you may have anxiety, fill your body, but you can always control what you think and how you behave. And we spend way too much time trying to focus on manipulating how we feel about things and not enough time practicing the skills of controlling your behavior and your thoughts. We make decisions of feelings. 95% of our decisions are made by how you feel in the moment.
Starting point is 00:27:02 And that is the problem. You need to take control of the moment and leverage the power of your decisions and make them up here. Because when I was lying in bed, I wasn't saying to myself, I should get up because that's going to help me start my day right. I was saying, do I feel like getting up? Do you feel like making that cold call? No, you don't. Do you feel like doing that third set of reps? No, you don't. Do you feel like having that hard conversation? No, you don't. Do you feel like ending this relationship, whether it's in business or in your life that is sucking you dry? No, you don't. We make decisions based on our feelings, and that is robbing you of joy and opportunity.
Starting point is 00:27:46 And it is blinding you from the fact that how you change your life is one five-second decision at a time, one push at a time. And if you accept the fact that you may never feel ready and you may never feel motivated and you may never feel confident, you may never feel courageous and that's okay, but you can still push yourself forward. What happens over time is as you start to see yourself becoming the person that takes action, that you start to see yourself becoming the kind of person that speaks even though your voice is shaking. You're the kind of person that that has a bias toward moving instead of a bias toward thinking. Guess what happens? You build the skill of confidence and courage. Five years ago, we thought the brain stopped growing at the age of 25.
Starting point is 00:28:25 The answer now is never. The truth is your brain's always growing and expanding. That's why you can always learn new things, which is amazing because it allows for what we call behavioral flexibility, meaning there's no reason for you to ever be stagnant, not in business, not as a leader, not as a human being. When we wake up, there's often to find. It's time to do with Beeston. And for most of us, we have thought that means go full tilt at all times in chase. But like a lion that's chasing down his last meal, if you just give chase to everything, you will wear out the energy that deserve and find yourself frustrated.
Starting point is 00:29:19 You must be a beast, but that beast must also transform to the right beast at the right moment. When you're waking up every morning by yourself and you're fucking getting after it by yourself and it's the hidden work. They don't see these motherfuck, man, what they deal with every fucking day. All those mornings that you don't want to get up and look at it as like a rock and you find this fucking rock and that rock is you. And every day you fight not wanting to get up and you do anyway.
Starting point is 00:29:47 You chipping another piece off that rock. And every day you fucking eat your right foods. And every day you go to train, you train harder and harder and harder. And you get up early. And all these things you do to start forming yourself. You're chipping another fucking piece of that rock up. Before you know it, give us a beautiful fucking piece of artwork that you built. Stop wasting the pain.
Starting point is 00:30:11 Stop going through wakeups and not learning the lesson. I'm tired of making dumb decisions. You've got to stop wasting your pain. and you gotta learn from what you have been through. If you want to last, you must sometimes be the fox and plan off your day and think about a strategy and how am I going to win? Even if I take a loss in remolment, it's a lesson.
Starting point is 00:30:41 I can live and keep learning and applied it toward a victory when most people have thought that I should have given up. You see, there's more to you than just me at peace. You must be calkeed. You must be clad. You must be diligent. You must set a plan. You must set a course of action. We know you got the talent and the skill set, skill set to succeed. Oftentimes a person has talent, skill set, ability to succeed. That's great. But do you have the guts to fail?
Starting point is 00:31:21 From consistent, I give myself the opportunity to be exceptional. I feel as if it's a lot of exceptional people that are not concerned. people that are not consistent. And I want you to understand that the reason, most likely, that you didn't achieve what it is that you wanted to achieve, is because you don't truly believe that you have it in you to achieve these things. You see them as special. You see the people who accomplish these things as special.
Starting point is 00:31:47 But what I need you to understand and what I want you to understand moving into the next year is that all of these people that you observe living a better life from you, in your opinion, All of these people you admire, all of these people that you look up to, all of them, every single one of them, is no different on the inside than you are. Because worn down isn't beaten. The things that don't go my way, they just turn into targets that I'm going to attack hard. This spring, denim gets a softer, lighter update. Introducing Old Navy's drapey denim wide leg, a new fit that. that moves with you.
Starting point is 00:32:29 It's everything you want denim to feel like for summer. Easy, breathable, and effortlessly cool. With a fit that creates natural movement and a wide leg that feels modern, not overwhelming. Plus, that signature, wait, for this price, moment. Old Navy's drapey denim wide leg. This is yours. You're the captain, you're the master,
Starting point is 00:32:57 you're the foreman, you're the general, you're the head. Don't give control of this to nobody. So when I don't see the point, and I feel like my life is being dismantled, could it be that God's preparation comes packaged as pain? And maybe if you could see it that way, it wouldn't take the pain away, but it would give the pain a purpose? If you could see what you've been calling a failure, really wasn't a failure.
Starting point is 00:33:50 It was a foundation. You are the perfect version of you already. You are the version of you that other people will love. All you have to do is give yourself permission to go be it. And that's going to require you to get uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:34:12 That's going to require you to put yourself out there. People aren't going to get it until they can get it. and you have it in you. I said, my challenge is this. Sometimes as people, our individual can be so arrogant and they can live their lives and feel as if or when a challenge arises, when opposition arises, when change arises, when uncertainty arises,
Starting point is 00:34:35 I'll just be ready for it and now rise to their case. And I think we all know in life you don't rise to their occasion, you revert back to your train. Meaning the individual that you were prior to the opposition, prior to the challenge, prior to the uncertainty, that is the individual that's going to show up in the midst of it every single time. The cult said you, you judge the true character and caliber of the person, not by what they stand in time to accompany convenience.
Starting point is 00:35:05 You judge a true character and caliber of the person by what they're standing in time to challenge and controversy. winners, champions, do not value motivation at all. I never think, do I feel like doing this? Is how do I get done regardless of how I feel? Because that's where the champions live. If you only fucking execute when you feel like it, or the stars are aligned, you can only execute when you feel like executing,
Starting point is 00:35:39 you will fucking lose 100 times out of 100. I mean, being in the military does not make you a disciplined person. Being from a disciplined family does not make you a disciplined person. Being in a disciplined group does not make you a disciplined person. What makes you a disciplined person is choosing to be disciplined. Stop doing the things that you know are wrong that you could stop doing. I want you to think about those goals. I want you to taste them.
Starting point is 00:36:13 I want you to, I want you to be, I want you to internalize it. I'm telling you to dream your dream because I want you to stop. sell it. I want you to taste it. I want you to know how close. I want you just like when the weather is changing, you can feel it. I want you to be able to feel when you're getting closer to it and closer to it. But more importantly, I want you to know when you dream your dream that there are other people who are dreaming the exact same dream. And now I ask me this question, what do you do when a thousand other people want exactly what you want? What if you're not the only one that wants what you want. One of there are thousands of other people who want what you want.
Starting point is 00:36:52 You have to outwork them. You got to outbriam them. You got to get up earlier. You've got to stay up later. You've got to execute and you've got to go from 70 to 120. Get up. Go. Fight on. Think of how impressed they would be. One of the greatest ways you can overcome. self-doubt is to realize how far you've come. Maybe you're not exactly where you want to be, but you're a lot better than where you were. And the key is to wake up every single day, put one foot in front of the other, keep moving and keep growing. You must understand that motivation is for average people. Motivation is for people that lose more than they win. Discipline is where everybody who's ever achieved anything great that you admire, that is what they value.
Starting point is 00:38:01 That's what they strive for. That's the skill that they make investments in. And that's why their lives look so great that you want something like that for yourself. You need to know it. You need to take that God that's sitting there with you. And there's precious souls that have passed that have always believed in you. And you carry them with you everywhere. They're with you anyway.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Acknowledge them. If you don't believe that, honor them. Honor God. Honor these people who believe them with your magnificent life. Honor them. Don't give into lack of belief, lack of confidence. Don't ever do that again. You were made to do something great.
Starting point is 00:38:42 You're special. You were made the image of God. Something awesome is supposed to happen for you. And those that have made something awesome happen, something even more awesome is supposed to happen for you. Don't be afraid to reinvent yourself. And don't be afraid to be different, man. You ain't got to fit in the crowd.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Why are you following everybody that you were clearly meant to lead? You can turn your life around because it ain't ever too late. Do not take the easy way out. Do not give up based on instinct. Destroy that instinct. This is the instinct that says you've had enough. You've given it your best shot. You can stand down.
Starting point is 00:39:29 You can back off. You can take a knee. This is the instinct that says you can rest now. Do not listen. Because that instinct is a liar and wants to bring you down. You see, this instinct is a defense mechanism for your ego. It gives you an out, a place to run to, a place of sympathy and amnesty where all can be forgiven. Where failures gather together in comfort and drown.
Starting point is 00:40:04 their sorrows in lies and deception. Of course, you don't feel like doing it. It's hard. Whatever it is. And you rationalize and you justify and you make excuses like a high-priced defense attorney, trying to win the case for weakness. That lawyer in your head is good. That lawyer knows just what to say.
Starting point is 00:40:34 You don't start things and not finish them. You don't quit. There's nothing that comes out of quitting besides knowing that you didn't finish. We finish everything. You started, finish it. If you're going to do it, do it to try and be the best. Not be better than other people, be the best for you.
Starting point is 00:40:53 Feelings off when it comes down to you wanting to be better. What that means is when that war on clock goes off, your feelings got to go away. If you want to achieve greatness. I'm talking about the grind. The f f f f you grind. Your feelings have to go away. They have a goal that's worth dying for. If you have a goal that's worth dying for what the hell you want to do in anyway.
Starting point is 00:41:21 If you guys mentally believe you can do it, your body will find the way physically to make it happen. If you are short up here, it doesn't matter what should do with these guys. It will never materialize in anything. No dream, whatever become reality. Winners, the difference between them and the spectators is the winners have a belief. that overrides the crowd's disbelief every single time. Their belief is so strong, even though they hit failure, they get knocked on an ass. They're finally intestinal forgery to stand back up again.
Starting point is 00:41:48 Three cents seem challenged, learning from the previous mistakes, and may it have it. Get the fuck over it. They no longer want you. Maybe you fell a test in school. You worked your ass off. Guess what? You fell to the fucking test. Get over it.
Starting point is 00:42:01 Move past it. Learn to not let life hijack your brain. At work, you've been working your ass off for that new promotion. You don't get it. Someone else does. Guess what? Get over it. Life will hijack your mind if you let it.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Don't allow all these things to make you a lesser person. You must own your mind. Don't let life own yours. Never say never. Because limits like fears are often just an illusion. Winners have already seen themselves with the trophy. Have already seen themselves on the other side in the finish line in first place. They don't just go, well, I hope this works.
Starting point is 00:42:47 They have such a clear vision that they can feel it, taste it, breathe it, smell it. And then they live a ruthlessly designed life. They have these core values that are non-negotiable for them. Because if you're a winner, you cannot have negotiable values. If no one's told you before, I'm here to tell you now. You don't need any more courses. You don't need any more books, any more YouTube lectures. The time for action is now.
Starting point is 00:43:30 It's time for you to go from where you are to where you need to be. You have all the information. You've read the books. You've taken the courses. It's time to take that information and apply it. Never say you can't do it. Say, I haven't done it yet. I haven't done it yet.
Starting point is 00:43:52 And that's true with everything. It's like there's nothing that you can't do. You may not have done it yet. We don't know if you can do it or not until you really practice. and then you find out if you could do it or not or how well you can do it. Nothing in life is promised except death. If you have the opportunity to play this game of life, you need to appreciate every moment.
Starting point is 00:44:18 A lot of people don't appreciate their moment until it's past. There is no one like you. There has never been anyone like you. There shall never be anyone like you. you therefore know yourself be yourself authenticity is everything it's not what you get that makes you valid it's what you become so part of the key here is to set the kind of goals that will make something of you don't set them too low so that you don't have to grow
Starting point is 00:45:03 and you don't have to read and you don't have to try and you don't have to stretch don't set them too low there's a good middle road here to follow. Goals that will inspire, goals that will help you grow, change, develop, and become better than you are. I'm saying you dig in until you win. You work until you win. You wrestle until you win. And when you're on that winning road, don't you dare look back.
Starting point is 00:45:31 You're not going in that direction anymore. And it doesn't matter where you've come from or what happened previously. You are becoming with something different. different. Starting right now, you're becoming something better. You're becoming something more. You are worth it. You are worth every bit of your dreams. You're worth every bit of that dream life that you fall asleep to that you have up on your vision board. You are worth every bit of that. But in order to achieve that, you have to be willing to put in the work. It's time to be accountable for the work that you need to do. No more theories.
Starting point is 00:46:11 No more imaginations. The time for action is now. 75 years. That's how much time you get if you're lucky. 75 years. 75 winters. 75 spring times. 75 summers and 75 autos. When you look at it like that, it's not a lot of time is, don't waste them. Get your head out of the rat race. You forget about the superficial things that preoccupy your existence and get back to what's in court now. Right now, this very second. And I'm not saying drop everything and let the world come to a grind at halt.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I'm saying that you can become a seeker. You can be loving more, you can be taking some chances. You can be living more, can be spending more time with your family. You can be getting in touch with the part of you that lives instead of fears, the part of you that loves instead of hates. If you want to give up, you can give up. This is your choice. You can do whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Your time's going to come, but you cannot give up. See, you can do anything. You can get up any hour, read any book, take any class, make any change, develop any skill, do any discipline. I mean, you can do it all when this how and the why, or when the why starts to grow, the how gets simple. Life is an ocean of opportunities. But sometimes we find ourselves anchored to the safety of the shore, petrified to venture into the unknown. But it's in that unknown where you find true freedom.
Starting point is 00:48:02 So how do you let go of the safety that's keeping you from the life of your dreams? You burn the ships. ultimate mindset says that I will do the work when I'm tired I will do the work even if I'm sick I will do the work even if I didn't sleep well I will do the work even if I don't feel like it I will do the work if it's cold outside I will do the work if it's too hot because I am driven by purpose and duty while others are driven by pleasures and desired and it is that fork in the road that separates the winners from the losers in life I want you all to remember something when a winner and a loser first
Starting point is 00:48:40 start something, they both got the same goal. Right? I'm gonna say it again, when a winner and a loser first starts, they both got the exact same goal. When something first starts, but somewhere in the midst of the journey in the process, somebody looks at the outcome and somebody focused on the strategies
Starting point is 00:48:56 and the processes that it take in order to drive the outcome. Whatever time that you have, you have to attack, like you're trying to save the world, you're trying to save your life, you don't want to drown, go, you gotta get after it, and you gotta have discipline. That's most people don't have those things. Most people don't understand what it's like to really go for something. And to know that the consequences of not doing that are horrific.
Starting point is 00:49:21 When we burn the ships in our life, we also eliminate the option of retreat. We commit fully to our goals and dreams, no matter how scary they seem. When you burn your ships, you tap into a wellspring of inner strength and resilience you never knew you had. You look around and you see no other option, but success. This is the central mantra of my life. It doesn't matter who you are today. It really doesn't. So if you feel like you're incapable of something, maybe you are today.
Starting point is 00:50:11 But just because you're incapable of something today doesn't mean that you're not capable of learning that thing. Everything vibrates. The earth vibrates the slowest, then plants, animals. human, then sound and then light, and then thought. You know what vibrates the fastest. The truth. The truth vibrates the fastest.
Starting point is 00:50:34 And you can only be aware of that which vibrates equal to or less than you. That is your frequency. Your frequency is your vibration. And that vibration is so important because it carries your potential, your truth. and we all should be consistent every day and persistent without quit in the pursuit of our potential or our truth. I knew exactly what I wanted. I had my why.
Starting point is 00:51:06 I had my goal and it was very specific. And this is the thing about goals. They have to be incredibly specific. Find a way to make it a calling, a vocation, something that really meets that why, your desire to connect or do something great for people. What it's really going to take for you to get to that next level is to understand that the person that you are has gotten you as far as is ever going to get you. So you've got to become a new person.
Starting point is 00:51:34 You literally have to adapt. Now the great news is that is what humans are wired to do. You're willing to put yourself under those kinds of stresses to become that new thing you want to become, to be the new person that you want to be, to go farther than anyone you know has ever gone to. possible, but it demands a price. So whether you call it soul or spirit or higher self, intelligence, there is, I know this, there's a light inside, each of you, all of us, that illuminates your very human beingness, if you let it, is the truest, highest vision that you hold for yourself. No matter where you are in your life, there's always the next level.
Starting point is 00:52:24 What we all want is to be able to live out the truest, highest expression of ourselves as a human being. That doesn't end until you take your last breath. I know a lot of people that fear that quiet. I know a lot of people that don't want to be alone with themselves. And the reason they don't want to be alone with themselves is, because they don't think they're worthwhile. They're not happy with who they are. That's what adaptation is about.
Starting point is 00:53:16 If you're not happy with who you are, then let's step into the ownership of that. Let's remember, that's our fault. There's no one else to blame for that. The people that did horrible things to you are not to blame for that. Because if they are, there's nothing you can do. But if you're the owner of that,
Starting point is 00:53:34 in fact, don't even worry about the word blame. You're in control. That's what this is about. It's about retaining control. It's about knowing that you own your life. And at any time, if you want a different outcome, you can make different decisions. You can do different things.
Starting point is 00:53:47 You can start a new narrative. And once you begin that new narrative, you realize the power that's in that to take you where you want to go. Somebody out there is actually controlling the way I'm feeling and the way that I'm thinking. So if something out there is, out there is controlling your feelings and your thoughts, you're victim to whoever, whatever that is.
Starting point is 00:54:12 Now here's the challenge. The challenge is when things go really well, then you are feeling really good. But when things aren't going very well, then you're feeling pretty bad. So then the end result of that is that many people then become unconsciously reliant on something out there to change how they feel here. But if they don't understand that they're creating reality all the time, and they're living in lack, in unworthiness, and separation, for their whole entire life, waiting for the event to happen to take away their lack or emptiness, well, they'll spend their whole entire life
Starting point is 00:54:55 wishing, wanting, waiting, hoping. It's better to produce one masterwork than a thousand mediocrates. And so OAD is all about doing one or two Mona Lisa's over the course of your career, maybe five, but you simply swept the details. OAD, obsessive attention to detail. Do not put anything out into the world that does not represent your absolutely best. You're going to blink. You're going to blink. And this precious commodity that all you've ever known is youth.
Starting point is 00:55:50 is going to be calm. And the comfort of getting old is not wasting your youth. And the power of being a father is to tell your son, Ron! Do it now. Go for it.
Starting point is 00:56:07 Go after it right now. Because tomorrow, you'll be in another season. And you will only eat in that season what you plowed in this season. And so when I pass the mic to the next generation, I'm telling you, this is not a rehearsal. This is your recital. So when you hit the piano, give it out.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Because everybody's listening right now. And I don't think that we always tell the next generation how much it costs and how little time you have and how important it is that you don't spend your life crying about how you feel and who wasn't there, who didn't do this or that people, you don't have time to allow that pull to pull you back down backwards. You have to be looking forward, building forward, thinking forward, going ahead, looking at your trees. What tools do you need? What relationships do you need?
Starting point is 00:57:19 of relationships is your greatest resource. It's better than any dollar amount in the world. You can have all the money in the world. You have no relationship to your poor man. But that it is best understood by analogy with music. Because music as an art form is essentially playful. We say you play the piano. You don't work the piano.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Why? Music differs from say travel. When you travel, you travel, travel, you are trying to get somewhere. And of course, we, because being a very compulsive and purposive culture, are busy getting everywhere faster and faster and faster till we eliminate the distance between places. I mean, with a modern jet travel, you can arrive almost instantaneously.
Starting point is 00:58:34 What happens as a result of that is that the two ends of your journey become the same place. So you eliminate the distance, and you eliminate the journey. Because the fun of the journey is to travel, not to obliterate traveling. So then, in music, though, one doesn't make the end of a composition the point of the composition. If that was so, the best conductors would be those who played fastest. And then when they're 65, they don't have any energy left, they're more or less impotent, and they go and rot in an old people's scene.
Starting point is 00:59:21 citizens community. Because we've simply cheated ourselves the whole way down the line. We thought of life by analogy with a journey, with a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, or maybe Evan after you're dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. See, we look at everything about, oh, what can I learn? And actually half of learning, in my opinion, is really unlearning. Everyone already has the answer inside of them. You're not really learning anything new. You're just trying to get rid of all the bad lessons you learned.
Starting point is 01:00:04 And everyone has that. So it's not so much about like, oh, is this person going from here to here? It's not really that. It's like it's someone going from here to here. And for me, one of the ways I've always thought about is you can't take the world further than where you visited internally. So for me, every person that we're meeting already has that journey right there. and all you're asking them to do is look inwards as opposed to outwards.
Starting point is 01:00:38 And I think it's something nice for us to know so we don't judge and label people. We don't walk around and think, oh, those are spiritual people. Those are not spiritual people. Because, yeah, we're all. We're all spiritual people. And it's just that some are covered. It's like the sun's always out. But often it's covered with the clouds, rarely here, a bit more lately.
Starting point is 01:00:59 But the sun is always out. It's just get covered by the clouds and that's us. We've just been covered. And we get covered by those clouds, and they cloud our identity. They cloud our perception. So all we're doing for ourselves and others is clearing out the clouds.
Starting point is 01:01:13 And the more we do that for ourselves, the more we can do it for others, and the more we do it for others, and the more we do it for ourselves. And that is what the law of thinking is. When you learn how it works, miracle path. Most people, their misery is derived. by their inability to sit quietly in a room by themselves.
Starting point is 01:01:47 You know how many people are frightened of their own company? You are your own competition actually. Nobody is your competition. We have to compete with ourselves every single moment, every single day to get better than ourselves. When you're prepared, there is no fear. fear because even if you've walked out of something and you feel like you've failed at it, your preparation is so strong that you're going to take that failure and turn it into the
Starting point is 01:02:24 outcome you desire. You have flow within you, you have genius within you. Most of us are so distracted. They're so overstimulated. They're so interrupted. They're so interrupted. did, they don't create the silent spaces where their genius can present themselves. Hey y'all, it's Kelly Clarkson with Wayfair.
