Starting point is 00:00:00 But please do be warned. Just be warned. I don't know. Oh, okay. Just be warned. That was ominous. All right. Consider myself warning.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Welcome, everyone, to another episode of the Adeptus Ridiculous podcast. My name is D.K. Diamantis. And as we all know, the devastation is stored in the balls. Introduce yourselves, co-hosts. Hi, I'm Bricky. My balls have been devastated. Amen, brother. God, I wish.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Go from that. I'm Carrie off and mine, aren't, I guess. Nah, you're married. They clearly are. Oh, yeah. You're married with kids. Your balls are gone, dude.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Removed. Yeah. Yeah. Shame that. But the, but good morning. Good morning to the two of you. Yes, indeed.
Starting point is 00:01:07 It is a fantastic morning. I will say that I have, um, I have quit. coffee, mostly. Really? I quit caffeine about three weeks ago, and I have only had a cup of coffee maybe once a week whenever I really need it.
Starting point is 00:01:24 But you know who doesn't need a cut back on recalf? The new Bradmood, Ork Boss. Oh, let's go. That's right. You were telling me about this and how dope it looks and how it's going to talk about it. Tell me. Look at him. Oh, he does.
Starting point is 00:01:38 That's fantastic. There is literally only one. criticism, and that is the gun on top of the armor. He's not as big as the one that's going to be in Total War, and I think the one that's going to be in Total War is a bit cooler because it's a bit bigger. But that's it. That's it. Otherwise, I think this guy's perfect.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Like, he genuinely looks amazing. Like, look at the, I forgot on the name of it. It's in the article as well. Yeah, that's gun. Yeah, the, the, uh, the, the custom blast. X. Yeah. Yeah, it just, I just want it a little bit, a little bit bigger on the miniature.
Starting point is 00:02:17 But other than that, that is a, that is a good looking lad. That is a quality lad. Yeah, he's got his, uh, he's got his custom Blaster X that had, okay, so this guy is looking like he's going to be insanely overpowered. Like, he looks insane. Uh, he's, he's, he 7, 2 up, 5 up, 8 wounds. He has deep strike. He has a, a reactive move.
Starting point is 00:02:41 He gets ignores. cover, he puts other units in the Waugh every battle round and he also has five weapons, Giliman, you pussy, you have to choose between a strike and a cleave. This dude just gets both.
Starting point is 00:02:57 He's got his three, when I saw his gun, it was like oh, custom blaster X and there's three different versions of it. You can pick which one. And then I realized, no, you don't have to pick which one. You get all of them because he's the bad boons, which is the shooty type.
Starting point is 00:03:12 right? So he's, uh, he just shoots everything. I wonder how he holds cups. Look at those hands. He's got no, he's got no,
Starting point is 00:03:22 like, you know, unless he very delicately picks him up with like his little claws. He's not picking up a cup of coffee. He's got to be super dexterous with the, with the massive claw, which also seems to have,
Starting point is 00:03:33 uh, you think so, he's an ork. Uh, well, you know, but he's also, he's also a bad moon.
Starting point is 00:03:38 He's got to have a little bit of, a little bit of, uh, like, a delicate nature to be able to shoot properly. Otherwise, he'd just kill his own guy. Well, actually, not to be fair. To be fair, that's not necessarily.
Starting point is 00:03:49 That's not necessarily. No, Shai's got it. He's got, he's got grots that probably pour coffee into his mouth for him. Or recalph or booze or whatever. Yeah, you're right, shy. How silly of me? I was like, how does he pick anything up? He's got one blocky flame thrower thing and giant power claw, like,
Starting point is 00:04:08 it don't matter. It don't matter. Just a giant power claw, though. Not just a giant power. claw. If you noticed, he's got, uh, he's got a bit of the, uh, the old hunger and slake, Tiberos, the red wake with the yeah, swords embedded in the claws. So it's, it does, doesn't it? Which is great because the weapon is called the moon chewer, because it's the bad moons. So good.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Nice. Yeah. This, this, this reminds me a lot of when Commissar Yaruk was released. I'm expecting him to be nerfed immediately. Um, like, or he's got to be like 220 points, 250 points. because he is insane. It's wild how good he is. So, yeah, kind of nutty. I do love that they even specify in the article. It's like he's got the custom Blaster X. He's got three profiles.
Starting point is 00:04:56 You just use them all. Just use all of them. It's fine. Because otherwise, you'd be forgiven for looking at it and going, oh, okay, okay, that's cool. We've got options. There's no options here. You just do the thing, do the whole thing, and then watch things
Starting point is 00:05:10 to integrate in front of you. What a cool name, too. Custom Blaster X. He obviously didn't come up with that because that is too succinct of a name for an orc to come with. Like, if he named it, it'd be like, oh, it's the glowing suit with what kills.
Starting point is 00:05:25 And, you know, it's that. I also really enjoy the fact that, well, so there's a curiosity here because I'm wondering if maybe what balances this is, or something is that you can't take him and Gaz, because under army rules, you can see he has the rule debus, which is either a rule part of the army in general, or it might be one of those restrictions that's like, you can only take one of these guys because they're like the head on show, you know? Yeah, I can see that. I'm not sure. Regardless, though, he does look like he's going to be insane. Orcs are also like tied for the best army in the game right now. So it's a little spooky that they are going to.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Also, there's a new Necron trailer for Dawn of War, and it looks sick. Oh, no. It's sick, as previously stated. Man, I'm, I don't play Dawn of War games because I'm no good at RTS. You will. Very bad. Oh, really? It looks that good?
Starting point is 00:06:30 No, I'm dragging you kicking and screaming. Oh, well, all right. Also, yeah, just play the campaign on easy. Like, who cares? You don't got to, like, be good at most. I guess that's true. Like with these games, you put it on smack dab easy and it's like, who gives a shit? Nothing moves at you that fast and you can take all the time you need to like build your base, right?
Starting point is 00:06:49 So, yeah, all right. It's actually kind of crazy. I guess I'm playing Necrons. It's actually kind of crazy because Necron's are like the Zerg type in this game, which is fascinating. They build out like Obatians phalanxes or sorry, the Converguses of Dominion. and that like gives them the weird like necron floor that spreads out like zerg creep it's really fascinating yeah i would not have expected necrons to play like uh like zerg i'd expect tyranids to play like zerg because you know well tyranids aren't in the launch game so yeah but like yeah wouldn't
Starting point is 00:07:27 expect that from necrons regardless but it does look great really fascinating yeah anyway Kyrioth, I know you probably don't have a short script. You are correct. You are 100% correct. I do not have a short script. So do you want to do the Patreon onus D.K. And then we'll go into, well, the other bit of, we'll enter the second ball. That's what we'll do.
Starting point is 00:07:57 You were searching so hard for a way to do it. Was that a parsimism or was that you? that was that was me you can tell because it wasn't as good as what parsum does it I'm more impressed that he's really rubbing off on you yeah yeah yeah but anyway what he writes and it just starts to take root you know hey have you enjoyed this witty banter good listener really then maybe you should head over to patreon.com slash adeptus ridiculous and maybe support us you can get access to the discord bloopers if they happen $15 tier gets you access to all of our posters in just immaculate digital form.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Check it out, patreon.com slash adeptus ridiculous. Now, Bricky will tell you about merch. Yeah, check out the merch store at Orkinate.com. Down below, there's also a cool section for any of you local game stores or businesses that might want some cool items like desk mats and things like that and shirts, apparel, and so on. And that's all available down in the description. Or you could check out the Adrick,
Starting point is 00:09:03 the Dest Ridiculous merch site where you can get things like new dice. You can get different kinds of apparel. Lots of people have already received their card sleeves, which is very fun as well. We actually have some really great feedback. And we will be running a second run of the card sleeves, probably coming up in, I'm hoping, August. And I'm actually very excited.
Starting point is 00:09:27 I really appreciate the feedback from everyone. I think we're going to pull into something really exciting. And besides that, yeah, just support the podcast. Go ahead and grab some merch. And also, me and Shire are working on some very cool merch on the horizon, which is very neat. We'll talk about when we have some images of those. But yeah, that's that.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Hell yeah, that's exciting. I want to know. I want to know. You can't, I mean, you know, we'll find out in time, but I want to know now. So, I mean, I, I mean, I can just not tell you because it's funny. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:04 But that's, but okay, I'm going to withhold the conclusion of the episode. No, I'm not. Um, the devastation of ball, hey? Yeah. Yeah. Golly, I wonder what happens in the devastation of ball. What could happen at the end? I cannot, I cannot wait for another Pyric imperial victory.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Mm. They're looking forward to Eldrad showing up. You looking forward to that? Honestly, every time. Yeah. It's a classic manoeuvre. Okay, I do have a quote for you here, but obviously there's nothing to guess because you know what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:10:39 But it is something that Shai sent during the last recording that I just, I'll be honest, I didn't see it, or we would have used it, because it's excellent, and Palsam enjoyed it so much that it's gone at the start of this one. So, Dante woke up to the miserable grey rays of the moonlight streaming to the narrow slits of his pitch black fortress monastery, cascading over his bare-crushing existential dread. He stretched his profound depression, lifting with his arms as he reluctantly greeted another day of unwanted survival. He dragged himself out of bed and put on his golden armour, his severe survivor's guilt prominently showing through his cracking stoic facade. He depressed depressingly to the stairs
Starting point is 00:11:21 and despaired downwards. So, at first, for the small, The most time, I thought it was a real quote, and then depressed to press is when I was like, okay, no, right, right, never mind. We move on. Honestly, that sounded so on brand for Dante until the depressed, depressingly down the stairs. I, too, was like, yeah, this sounds like you could actually be a Dante quote from a book. It's very well done. And I, I'm sorry, we missed it the first time, but it's all right. We got there in the end. Okay. So, this is it. This is the devastation in full. The book is very much worth a read. And though a whole ton of it is. covered in this episode, there are still some side things that aren't covered that make a read through still worthwhile, including the stuff about the thirst water. As Possum always says, if it wasn't included, it doesn't mean it was forgotten. Post your favourite bit or quote from the book,
Starting point is 00:12:10 etc., etc. In the comments down below, I'm going to go straight in. Dante walks along the Arks Muris, which is the Great Wall of the Fortress Monastery of the Blood Angels on Ball, known as the Arcs Angelicum. It, like many other buildings and artefacts on Ball, once stood as a proud reminder of chapter's efforts during the era of the Great Crusade, but time has not been so kind to these relics, nor has the unforgiving surface of Baal. Much of the once incredible building stood covered in sand and ruin. The great Arks Angelicum was once able to hold the entirety of the Blood Angels Legion, and Dante is seeing to it that it can do so once more. There won't be able to host all the newcomers that are arriving in the system, it will be rebuilt into something proud to house the
Starting point is 00:12:54 command of the sons of Sanguinius for at least one final time. Dante watches as many sons arrive at the Angelicum, many of which have never even set foot on the surface of Baal before. There haven't been this many men who share the same blood as him on the surface, pretty much ever, and yet this does not bring him joy, because he is well aware as to why they're here. His slow walking around the arcs allows him to see the re-fortification, as well as the transport of arms and defenses onto the surface and around the building. He witnesses members of the sanguinary guard standing vigil around, and they salute as he passes.
Starting point is 00:13:29 They all wear a face very much like Dante, but of all the men on the surface, only Dante wears the true face of Sanguineas. Only he has this burden. Poor Dante, every time. Depressed, depressing way down there. Yeah, you know, now it's funnier because now I'm sorry, because people will always be like, oh, yeah,
Starting point is 00:13:49 Dante's depressed, and they're like, there's more to that. But I get why they're saying it now. Like, he really isn't having a good time. No, it's not fun to be Dante at all. All memes have a hint of truth in them. Yeah. This is more than a hint.
Starting point is 00:14:07 This is just a slap across the face. So Dante is met by Mifiston, who is bringing along Geron Lita, who is the master of astropaths. Lita confirms that 27 chapters have arrived, including chapters that aren't. on any notes kept by the scholars. Mephisto confirms that the sons of Sanguinius are loyal and more should be expected. He also confirms that there has been no word from Cadia. Dante asks if Cadia has fallen and Mephistan says that it's not. He would know if it had.
Starting point is 00:14:40 Dante candidly states that he fears that all of these efforts on the planet may not be sufficient to stop Leviathan and Mephisto says that it's still quite the sight. He wonders if this is what Sanguinius saw when the Legion was first marshaled. And I've got first quote of the day for you, D.K. Let's go. To see an echo of what he saw with our living eyes is an honor. Dante was forever conscious of the sacred ruby affixed to his brow. Inside the hollow vessel was the last unadulterated liquid drop of blood taken from sanguinius's veins preserved for all time. He's always with me, librarian. He is always with all of us. I always forget that's what that is
Starting point is 00:15:23 I'll be honest Yeah I I've got a single drop of blood in there Yeah I didn't I didn't realize that's what was in there I thought that was just like a ruby You gotta be real careful where you put that helmet down You gotta make sure no one nicks it
Starting point is 00:15:36 That's that that's a valuable That's a valuable piece of equipment That's the kind of thing He's also never taken enough damage To actually lose it That's the kind of thing that like a night lord Would specifically go to try to steal and just like swallow it in front of them and be like,
Starting point is 00:15:52 uh, uh, 100% like a spirit stone. The ultimate spirit stone. Just the blood of a primark just floating around in there. Imagine the embarrassment of losing that. That would be rough. That'd make him even more unhappy than it already is,
Starting point is 00:16:09 if that's even possible. So off surface, Captain Irwin of the Angels Excelsus is aboard the splendid pinion on route to ball when they stumble on space debris from the conflicts in the Red Scar. Dante had given the stragglers a bit of a mission to scout the systems on their way to bowl to see if there is any sort of early warning signs
Starting point is 00:16:27 that indicate the tyrannids are moving faster than expected. Among the derelict ships, they see tyrannid ships that are essentially salvaging and consuming this debris, but they're a bit out of the way. The sergeant fears that this may be a trap and they should just leave it, but Owen orders an attack anyway, destroying the ships. As they move out of there,
Starting point is 00:16:45 they do not notice the single occupant void party, amidst the debris. They also did not witness the once in a million hit where the pod made its mark on the side of the splendid pinion before the activation of its Geller fields. The Lictor inside eagerly prepares for its mission for the hive mind.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Oh. Get infiltrated. Get infiltrated. Get licked. Get licked. I hardly knew her. Anyway. Oh, no. God, damn.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Mephistan tries to take a bit of a nap in his cozy coffin when he is suddenly slammed with horrific visions. He sees the horrors of the despoilers attack on Cadia, the endless horde of demons, necrons, and the death of an entire world. Just a real bad time. Just when he thinks he's out of it, he encounters a harlequin,
Starting point is 00:17:39 stating she's not there to fight, she is there with a warning. She guides him through visions of demons until being brought in front of a very specific demon, Cabanda. The bane of angels wishes to greet the gathered sons of Sanguinius. The harlequin ends this vision with a line. Hold fast, watch for the end. A lord of men returns. Do not fall. Stand fast to Soled Mephisto. Now is the time of ending and of beginning. As Mephisto comes to, he's a bit of a panicked mess, but he fears something worse is happening. Him and Raffeclus travel through non-space
Starting point is 00:18:15 psychically and see something terrible. The fifth company and the Daimor system have experienced an attack and are in the process of being lost to the black rage. Dante needs to be informed about this as well as the potential threat posed by Cabanda.
Starting point is 00:18:31 As if it couldn't get any worse for the Blood Angels. Just, you know, on the verge of extinction through Tyrannid and then a very specific, very specific greater demons, like, oh, perfect. Yeah, I'm back. Welcome back. Oh, that's no good.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Great model as well. He can't stop. You just can't stop coming back. Nope. He's got stuff to do. I mess with blood angels. How can I make Dante's day worse? I know.
Starting point is 00:19:03 That's actually his only real goal. The blood angels are just the way to achieve it. Making Dante more miserable is really what he's after. So Mephistoon rushes to the, Archangelian Tower at the Arks Murius to see Dante confirmed the face of the Fifth Company, which almost completely fell to the black rage after a psychic attack. Nearly 94 men were lost. Less than half of the Blood Angels chapter remains to face Leviathan.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Dante, clearly in a bad headspace, is then informed of the visions he saw and of the Harlequin. Dante asks if Cadia will fall. Mifistan says he is now unsure. He can't trust the visions, especially because of the clown girl, but it's really not great. It's reaching the sanguineas prophecies a coming true stage of the apocalypse, which is not really what they're looking for right now.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Yeah. Mephizden descends into the carcari archanum in the fortress monastery to consult something. Something that's existed for thousands of years here is a prisoner, something that may know a thing or two about a potential demon threat. Deep in the vault of Marist
Starting point is 00:20:10 sits the octokot Calvary. There we go. I've tried this several times. That's the close we're going to get. I stumble over it. Octo Calvary. It's a Xenos. At least it was a Zenos that was fully corrupted by the ruinous powers. They have no idea what it used to look like or if it looks like now is actually what it is. It's got six limbs and eight little heads on its big head and dozens of eyes. Oh, oh, terrible, awful in fact. Oh boy. Also, when you were like, oh, it's got six limbs, I was like, Octo Calvary for six limbs. Why would? Oh, and also eight heads. And it's like, oh, boy, there it is. There is. Really buried the lead on the, on the name. Yeah, sure did. I'm curious what the fuck this thing is. So go on. Well, it doesn't speak. It also hasn't been fed in thousands of years. They have tried to kill it repeatedly.
Starting point is 00:21:13 but it just won't die. So whatever it is, it's bad and won't go away. Even though it's been there for centuries, it's still very psychically potent. Because of its connection to chaos, Mephistan believes he can use it to confirm whether or not Kibanda is going to show up. He psychically connects to it and Mephisto tells it that it's going to help him. The creature psychically suggests that if he releases it, it'll gladly help. Mephiston says he doesn't need his active participation.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Through the eyes of the Xenos, Mephistoron can see the different realms of chaos and in one of his eyes he sees cabanda even worse cabanda sees him he's making his way to ball and the visions were true obviously uh dante's got to be told dante needs to know about this so just to make his day even worse it wasn't horrible already also he did they did the classic the classic in making an effort to stop the the prophecy you have actually enacted it. So congratulations. You played yourself.
Starting point is 00:22:20 You fell for the oldest trick in the book and now Caban is on this way. Also, is this not a little heretical for them to be using a Xenos to try and like glean future site? The Imperium are hypocrites at the best of times. Yeah. Very true. Very true.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Go on. I mean, on that front, if you didn't like that, it's only going to get worse, because Dante asks if there's anything that they can do about it, and Mephistan says that they can try to do some real, like, dread arcane sorcery to stop him from appearing, like doing proper, cursed and vile magic, which it's not really high on the priority list at the moment, and Mephiston does say he'll only do it if Dante gives him permission. Dante does say yes, but binds Mephisto to secrecy and orders that his librarians also swear an oath of secrecy
Starting point is 00:23:10 to not reveal any information about this or the attempt. So all round, all round, we shouldn't be doing this sort of actions going on right now. They're really more like guidelines than laws, eh? Yeah. Cool. Now, there's a little bit of an aside here before the next part. Even though we have the luxury of seeing the stories through the eyes of Dante and just assume that he's going to command and run everything,
Starting point is 00:23:38 and everyone is just going to be like, Yeah, he's John Blood Angel. Of course he's in charge. This isn't really set in stone. Considering the sheer volume of folks in the Baal system of high prestige, Dante isn't just going to assume that he is going to command everything. Lots of folks are qualified to take care of Baal's defenses. Anyway, they have the Great Red Council, and Dante welcomes all the sons of Sanguinius and thanks them all for their rival. He affirms that they will not die here. Their father would not allow for him. it. They need to stop Leviathan from moving and he believes that the blood is strong enough for them to do so. Real like hype man stuff when he internally is saying, oh God, oh fuck. You can't show it.
Starting point is 00:24:23 You've got to put on a brave face. I mean, this is potentially the end of your world and almost every blood angel successor chapter, but you can't be letting people know that. That's not good for morale. You've got to be good for morale. No, it's very bad for morale. You know, it was very important. You know, you gotta, you know, if we learned anything from the captain of the Annieara, truly the best choice is to lie and cope. Yep. And be the last light of humanity. Yep. Yep. Yep. You just got to get on with it. And everything will work out. Fine. On the bright side, at least the lamenters aren't there to kill the mood more. Right? They said, no, we can't. Sorry, we're already, we're already screwed. We're already down to our last guy. We can't
Starting point is 00:25:08 show up. We won't help. So at least there's that. No matter how bad things like get, we know that it would be worse if they'd shown up. So it's like it's a small mercy that they weren't there. Dante then says that, you know, everyone probably thinks that he'll take command without approval, but that's not what he does. He explicitly asked for permission to lead the defense of Ball. Some points out the obvious and say that he's the main character, but Dante remains humble. He wears the face of sanguinius, but he is not sanguinius. He orders a vote, and of the 500 members of the council, 476 vote for Dante and 24 vote against. Now, before anyone is like, who would vote against Dante from the Warhammer 40,000 series, this is explained.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Essentially, everyone in the room pretty much was going to follow Dante no matter what. Some were a bit irritated and surprised that he asked in the first place. The majority of those who voted against Sim only did so out of principle to honour the fact that the Codex Astati states that no lord should command more than a thousand space marines. It also says that only a couple were arrogant enough to believe they could do better than the master of the blood angels. No names are given, but Possum forgives Gabriel, Seth, so it's okay. Anyway, Oh, Gabriel. You scamp you. The vote goes well. Even the cherubs start chanting Dante. Nice, nice powerful stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Now that he's in command officially, Dante begins to strategize. A real bold and terrifying theory is floated around by the chief librarian of the flesh eaters that the tyranids are actually a singular gestalt consciousness connected by some sort of hive mind, which promptly causes people to freak the fuck out. Mephistan tries to help with the situation, but he does aura farm pretty hard whilst doing so. And I've got a quote for you here, Bricky. All right. Have seen it too. Scaraband speaks the truth.
Starting point is 00:27:13 Mephiston rose from his chair, his eyes glowed blue, and on wings of scarlet energy, he flew over the heads of his peers and landed in the center of the map. His deathly pale skin lit by the dancing light of disturbed hololithic star systems, dark mutters greeted the Lord of Death's intervention. I have looked into the shadow of the warp and seen the thing that casts it, said Mephistim. Can we just talk about the fact that he got up out of his chair and instead of like walking, he just like psychically flew on into the middle. Like he like I need to get over here with like a presence. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Yeah. It's it's it's so unnecessary. You can't just walk like everyone else. But no, you've got to show off the fact that you can fly and you're an absolute legend. It's the only way to go. Yeah. I was going to say that quote is an awful. long way to go to be like, yeah, he confirmed that he saw it.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Like, no, no, you can't just say that, brother. You got to telepathically fly above the damn map, land on it, and be like, I have seen these things. Other people just stand up and go, I think he's right. No, not Mephistan. Absolutely not. I mean, look at him. Can he do anything subtly?
Starting point is 00:28:32 Yeah, with that, with that look, also he still has his, he still has his nipple armor that, that Chad. Oh, good for him. It adds to the aura, if anything. So Mephistan essentially says that, yes, this is 100% the case, which gives a sense of dread to many of them. They're fighting something that is essentially only a small piece of a much bigger thing. It seems futile.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Dante says that this gives them more incentive to kill them all and cause whatever hive mind they answer to to recoil. He says that he's already initiated a plan to kick the tyrannage pretty hard in the ass. The worlds and the red scar were abandoned due to the disqual. destruction of all the remaining stocks of the Satrix elixir. The world's can't be lived on, so the people have been removed. Dante has preemptively destroyed all 40 of them, not already consumed by the tyrannids. The tyrannids will arrive in that system hungry and will be stalled due to starvation. They can trap them here and then destroy them at their leisure. Everyone is a big fan of this, of course,
Starting point is 00:29:32 and that is a good plan. Would have been great if it worked, which it definitely didn't. But it was a good plan. Next up, though, we have, as Possum has titled this, some real Gabriel Seth ours, which... Big fan of that. All right. All right. That's enough of Dante for a bit.
Starting point is 00:29:56 Time for the best boy Gabriel Seth. Parson is just flat out saying right now, forgive me for the bias. He's walking around the arcs Angelicum, and he notices quite a bit of movement. like a lot of movement of things, all of which are being taken far away. Seth sees all this happen and is very much like, yeah, Dante 100% doesn't think we can win this if all this stuff is being moved. Dante calls for Seth and Seth calls him out for moving the stuff out of here, including artifacts and
Starting point is 00:30:28 gene seed. Dante says that Seth saw what Leviathan is capable of, so this is a reasonable precaution. He felt down and out, but when the sanguinald told him that there was hope, he started to feel more confident. Seth says that sending gene seed away isn't something a hopeful man would do, and Dante says that he's a pragmatist. Now, Seth gets a bit mad at Dante about everything, and Dante says that his savagery is his strength as much as his curse. He didn't summon Seth here so that Seth could see all the relics and gene seed going away. He wanted to give something to him. A feather speckled with blood. It fell from Sanguinius's wing during the defense of the Imperial Palace and was placed in a stasis field.
Starting point is 00:31:11 Seth remarks that Beauty birthed our wrath and Dante speaks to him. And I've got another quote for you here, D.K. It's a weird present to give. Beauty makes its home in you, Gabriel, Seth. If you could wipe it free of blood, you would see the glory in you. Sanguineus writes of your founder Emmett's savagery, but also that he was a great craftsman. Dante pointed at the casket.
Starting point is 00:31:35 It belongs to you. Seth looked at the treasure in incredulity. The feather, he said. I will not take this. Dante held out the reliquary feather. It belongs to your chapter. The spirit of your founder is rooted in its metal. That, more than the reliquary, has protected it.
Starting point is 00:31:55 It is time it went home. Take it. All right. It's kind of cool. Yeah, it's kind of cool. Yeah. Really, yeah. That's top notch. And also, again, if you were worried about, like, he's having all the stuff removed
Starting point is 00:32:12 and everything is being taken away on the off chance, none of this works when we all die. Giving an artifact of that sort of rarity and prestige and just overall vast importance right before a gigantic fight, I'm not going to lie, that would feel a bit like, well, this was a nice bit of reconciliation between people who haven't necessarily got on in the past before we all die horribly. This is a nice gesture so that we're all friends when the end comes. Yeah, you've got to tie up any loose ends, right? If you're going to go down, you've got to go down without any regerts. How kind of them.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Seth says that this is more proof that Dante does not expect to win, and Dante says they must win. He can refuse the gift, but he is asking him to accept the burden in honour of their friendship. Seth frowns and says that there is only fury and service, not friendship, and Dante asks him if he truly believes that. Seth says that Dante's changed since they last spoke, and Dante confirms that he had broken his oath to never drink living blood again and has had some. Seth knows why Dante took the vow to never drink blood again.
Starting point is 00:33:25 In M-40, Dante fell to the thirst, blinded with the besought. desert rage and frenzy, Dante killed innocence. A deep shame that he had held onto for years with a vow to never do it again for fear that others may die. Seth notes that Dante is not so pure after all before taking the gift and thanking him. I'm just going to say that's a jerk move. That is 100% a jerk move. Yeah, that's kind of dick. It's like, come on, the guy's held out for centuries without drinking blood. What seems to be the apocalypse, he has some that's been offered to him willingly and then tried to give you a relic of the prime arc. And the response is,
Starting point is 00:34:03 I don't know, not so pure after all. Yeah, sure, I'll take that. Come on, man. Seth. He's a dunn. What of a fucker that, that Gabriel Seth? I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:34:14 I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm a, what's up with you? What's up with you, Parson? Why, why are you a fan of this? Yeah, why are you fan of this guy? He's kind of a prick. He does have a great, gigantic,
Starting point is 00:34:26 chain great sword in that picture, though. Love that. For your information, Possum, I never like a character in a Warhammer novel that's an asshole. No. So true. Historically, only the best of the best for brief. Only the kindest. Well, Dante says that this may be the last time they're able to speak in private.
Starting point is 00:34:54 They have a feast to go to as the battle draws near. hopefully the feast will go without incident and no one uninvited will show up. Speaking of feasting, the lictor, mindless and undetected, uses its chameleonic ability to blend in and observes the archs Angelicum from a distance. To the lictor, this is not a fortress, it's a target. But the lictor isn't even the not-invited dinner guest. The not-invited dinner-guest at the great feast is Captain Fen of the Angels Vermilion. You know, the chapter that Dante was like, they know why they're not here. They have been banned for over 500 years, and Fen didn't even decide to bring a dessert or something for the feast.
Starting point is 00:35:37 He just showed up like a dickhead. Dante is very unhappy about this. Fen asks to be heard, though. He is well aware that Dante does not like his chapter. They lost two-thirds of their numbers on the way to bowl, thanks to the nids. Dante says that chapter master Chulled can't buy forgiveness by the sacrifices they made to get here. Fend says that Chapter Master Chould died 40 years ago due to a Necron attack. The current Chapter Master, Moore, has no idea that him and the other angels familiar are here.
Starting point is 00:36:06 He asks for absolution not for themselves, but to allow for them to protect the home of Sanguinius. Dante says, are you going to stop killing innocents and drinking their blood? And Fend is just like, hey, we all go eat, all right? And we're totally not the only ones who do that. So, do you stop killing innocents? No. What are you a pussy? Like it's such a strange response. Now, I do remember when reading when reading the book that the wording is slightly more diplomatic there, but considerably less than Potom's done. But it is pretty, the message is pretty clear. It is effectively, I mean, we all do it. It's just you specifically know that we do it. But if you think we're the only ones, I've got any. for you, that is not correct.
Starting point is 00:36:56 Like, it's very much a, yeah, you're only mad because you've, we advertise it. Everyone else is at it as well. So, how about you chill out? This is, the diplomatic answer has no place in the, in the one hour long retelling of the book. It's just like, you're just like, you're just have killing innocent? No, next question.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Yeah. We will if everyone else does. And we all know that everyone else does. not. He effectively says that the Angels Vermillion are punished for being honest, but they'd still showed up and they're still standing here, so let their deaths redeem them. Dante accepts them. He would have reacted differently if Moore was there, but these Angels Famillion that stand before him are penitence, and they deserve
Starting point is 00:37:44 food and rest before the true struggle begins. Dante will have a bit of a rough time before the end of this too. On Balcicundas, he orders the conscription of all able-bodied men and women, over the age of 10 to defend and fight. She'd goddamn. Oh, man, that's tough. That is, um, oh, man. We love child soldiers.
Starting point is 00:38:05 They either go to the Legion or they fight here, you know, you take a pick. The children yearn for the trenches. We know this. The children yearn for the, no. It's going to say the children year for the balls, but I can't. Oh, no. It's not doable. And it's true.
Starting point is 00:38:21 I, I found out the problem happened. Points are okay. I just stopped. Listen, double A, all right. Do you spell A, how do you spell ball? It's B.A.A.L. B A.A.L.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Right? B A.A.L. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Cool. Cool. I wasn't sure if there was an H in there somewhere.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Anyway. God, that's what you meant. That's the God damn. First, the emperor's children defiler and now this. I'm on a terrible streak. No. Not the defiler. The children year in for military service.
Starting point is 00:38:54 move on. There we go. There we go. You got there. You got there. Well, funnily enough, demanding that the children be sent to the front lines doesn't go great. And Dante steps away with a degree of self-loathing for the actions that he's had to take. People need to be strategically. I was going to say a degree of self-loathing for Dante. Surely, he must be at 360 degrees of self-loathing at this point. There's no way to be less than that. Just another day that ends in Y for Dante.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Yeah. It's like I really hate myself for this to sit. Oh no, no, no, no. No, no, already hate myself. I'm okay with it. I'm stable. This is, yeah, just another day at the office. So people need to be strategically and forcibly moved to allow for a more predictable path tyrannid-wise as the shadow in the warp grows darker.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Seth is stationed on ball primers and gets word that another space marine force has made planet fall he's taken there by a tribesman by the name of Chrismse since he knows all the deep caverns and such this is when Seth meets his new teammates Centaur, Jewel and the Knights of Blood The Knights of Blood are an infamous renegade chapter known for hyperviolence
Starting point is 00:40:18 and Jule tells Seth that Dante told them to come here to fight alongside Seth and Seth is a bit sulky and stroppy about it. Using the story of how the once beautiful moons of Baltaicundas and Bal Primus fell apart when they did not stand together, Steph stresses that the flesh terrors fight alone. And Jules says that they will fight with the flesh terrors, whether they like it or not. Now, I'll be honest here.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Jule does not help his case with this whole, let's actually, you know, be civil and and fight together his brothers because he then kills the tribesmen and offers Seth a bit of blood so that they can seal their pack together. Oh, well that's stupid. It's not the greatest diplomatic move I've ever seen in my life.
Starting point is 00:41:07 It already wasn't going great to then just be like, well, this guy's going to die anyway, let's drink his blood now. Wasn't really the move. Didn't go down well. Seth just does want nothing to do with this at all. And that, again, is not helped because Joel says that these guys are like cattle anyway. So, you know, why not have a little drink?
Starting point is 00:41:30 Jesus. It's almost like the nice, yeah. So the Knights of Blood reputation was almost entirely deserved for something. Talk about advertising it. Jesus Christ. Yeah. Seth said that the drunker was innocent And Jule asked
Starting point is 00:41:51 Well, when has that stopped you in the past? Seth would say that this was in cold blood And that he would not drink with him Nor would he fight with him Keep your positions and we'll keep ours If he disagrees, there will be bloodshed And Seth will gladly take Jules head first Jule then like a dick
Starting point is 00:42:08 Says, alright, we will not venture closer than three miles to your position And Seth says that's too close to which Joel jokingly says he looks forward to fighting with him. He then asked Seth to leave so that he can take off his helmet and feast on the guy. It's apparently awfully rude to stare at someone when they take their helmet off. Oh yeah, that's the reason. Literary device. Yeah, yeah, for Shagway's leery device and all that.
Starting point is 00:42:32 I'm sorry, real quick. What the fuck is this dude's problem? What the hell is Jules' problem? Jesus, man. The Knights of Blood are weird. one because they are like, they're sort of, they are loyalist,
Starting point is 00:42:50 from what I remember at least. You sure? They have a whole thing of just, yeah, yeah, but humans are just cattle. We need blood. If we drink blood, are they,
Starting point is 00:43:01 oh, are they renegades as well? Yeah, they just, they really, they just love killing. They really love killing. They love drinking blood. They don't care who knows
Starting point is 00:43:10 either of those things. They're not, they're not great. They're not great examples of like Sons of Sanguineas by any means. Yeah. It's real like desperation move to have them actually in any way involved with this mess. Yeah. That's like they're like they're just so they're treating they're acting like iron hands.
Starting point is 00:43:35 Yeah. I was going to say if they're being hunted by the Inquisition as traitors, is there any? Well, you'll probably tell. me, but I was like, is there any chance that they get turned in specifically by Gabriel Seth after this is over like, Pst, Inquisition, they're over there. Guys, funnily enough, I know exactly where that fucker jewel is. It's right there. Come on pick them up. No one will notice. They'll think they've just been killed by the tyrantids. This is perfect. Don't worry. Oh, we'll get to the knights of blood. Don't you worry about that.
Starting point is 00:44:12 The Angels Vermillion, I feel like, didn't we talk about them in the Astartis 2 trailer episode? I think we did. I think they're in that because they've got the red armor with the black, the black paltrans, I feel like. But yeah, the Angel of Famillion are also Rongans. Oh, yeah, they are with the little blurb shy gave you. Yeah, so the sorrowing is a secret and dark ritual of the Angels Famillion. angels facially drain the blood of a portion of the population of a planet Marines then bathe in the blood before spilling their own by sacrificing a sanguinary priest
Starting point is 00:44:48 and a bunch of other Marines who are suspected to be weak to black, rage or red thirst. Then this whole mixture of eagle blood bathwater is used to nourish the Angels Vermillion in battle. I said no idea why the blood angels don't like them. Yeah, they're all sort of fucked up. What gets me is the fact that they sacrifice sanguinary priests. they're quite valuable. He's really important actually. He's actually quite a big deal
Starting point is 00:45:16 to lose one, let alone willingly being like, well, time to go into a big fight, line up the sanguinary priest and we'll cut one open, let's go. That is mad. That is crazy work off of them. They don't really seem like they're of
Starting point is 00:45:32 sound mind to understand what they're actually doing, though. So, you know, also I love that their colors are just drenched and blood. I don't know what that base color is. They are just covered in blood. Great. Blood red with actual blood on top. The best combination. That is the one downside to a lot of Blood Angels successors. It's essentially, how do you know if it's a Blood Angel successor? Oh, the armor's red, like the Blood Angels. It gets very confusing. It gets very like,
Starting point is 00:46:04 am I looking at a successor or just an actual? Oh no, the logo is slightly different. Okay. Now, we know. Kind of prime example right there. Knights of Blood are, well, kind of neat. I don't know why, but the, um, but the, um, the silver and the red kind of clash to me. Like it, it, it, it, it makes it seem kind of disjointed a little bit too much. I feel it would look a little bit better if it wasn't on one of those like stock standard, um, firstborns. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Like, it was actually, it looked like the firstborn marine on the above picture. It'd be a little bit better. Yeah. Yeah. And it's not all red. So that's also a nice bonus. True, true. Really being daring with the colour scheme there, the Knights of Blood.
Starting point is 00:46:51 So at this point, things have moved on somewhat. Dante wakes up from another nightmare and calls for Arafo. But of course, he's no longer there. Dante learned space marines have already fallen to the black rage, but not a few. Hundreds. They are packed in the Basilica Sanguinarium where their armour is blackened. After the death rituals are performed, these new Death Company recruits are led to the dungeons of Amareo to be kept until they're needed. They will be needed sooner than expected, though, as Leviathan has arrived.
Starting point is 00:47:25 It's moved past the scar and is now on the doorstep. The initial void war against the High Fleet starts in the outer reaches of the Baal System, and Dante watches as four battlegroups engage. Initially, they're holding their own. Hundreds of biocships are destroyed from the drop. But, Mr. Chaptermaster, there's been a second high fleet. Specifically, on the far side of Ballot, bypassing the defences entirely. The space marine vessels begin to be brutally overwhelmed.
Starting point is 00:47:53 He can only watch in horror as the Angels Excellus is almost entirely consumed in the void as their flagship crumbles to bits. Belleron, the Blood Angels fleet commander, watches from the Blade of Vengeance as this second. and fleet arrives. All he can do is hold off the enemy as best he can. Barley's rocked as the beast begin to break the atmosphere along with the shattered fleet. Belafron and the Blade of Vengeance crash into the surface. Dante did not witness Belifron's death, but he will be honored as a hero. I've got another quote for you here, Bricky. Oh, guys, he used really hard before you said that one second.
Starting point is 00:48:31 You want me to take this one? No, no, I'm just, I'm just. Swallow some more. For the last half day, the defense lasers and larger cannons had been firing. Their infrequent reports and a regular heartbeat. Now, thousands of smaller guns joined them. The Arks Angelicum tremble with rage. Order the men to the walls, commanded Dante with an air of icy calm. Oh, sorry.
Starting point is 00:48:58 Order the men to the walls. It's icy calm. The enemy are at our gates. We shall repulsed. them. The invasion of Ball had begun. Dun, dun, done. I was the shit about to say tense music, because I couldn't remember what the tense music actually was. I screwed up because that's Dumbledore said calmly type moments.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Yeah. So at this point, Mephistan prepares for departure, as they need to prevent this from getting a hell of a lot worse. him and his librarians make their way to the Ruberica, a gigantic cavern in the bloodstone mines of the Crohn Mountains. He then tells the librarians why they're here. They need to stop the angels bane from arriving on Ball. He pulls out a horrific old toome and the ritual begins.
Starting point is 00:49:50 They draw blood from one another's wrists to strengthen their psychic bond as Mephiston opens a rift to Corn's realm. What? What? What? What? What the fuck did he do? In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary, come again?
Starting point is 00:50:11 I am stealing that, by the way. That was Bricktop from Snatch said that. Oh, I can't believe I don't remember that. I love Snatch. Anyway. You're not good to me alive, are you, Turkish? You know, that's what I was. I mean, I don't see what the problem.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I don't see what the problem is. Corns realm. Corse realm. Open the portal to what you say. He's got to know what's going on. He's got to make sure that he's got a finger on the pulse and that he can stop Cabander if he needs to. Unfortunately, that does mean, you know,
Starting point is 00:50:51 actively searching for this horrendous bloodthurster. But, you know, it's fine. I'm going to say, isn't that not exactly the priority right now? Yeah, I was I was literally Shai took his words out of my mouth DK, remember when you were asking about if communicating with Zenos was heresy?
Starting point is 00:51:14 So more guidelines than rules, right? Desperate times and all that, you know? Yeah, I guess. Rough, all right. Jesus. The escalation is hilarious.
Starting point is 00:51:28 It's like, we have this weird Zenos locked up. We can use. him to spy on the servants of chaos and then ramping that up to, we're just going to step into Corn's realm. Don't worry about it. You know, it's fine. We've got a book that says we can do it. Well, I mean, they've got a book that allowed them to do it, whether it says you can or should do it is another matter. Yeah, sometimes you just got to do a corn summoning ritual. That's just how things go, unfortunately. So, sure. Yeah. Mephiston opens a rift to Corn's realm. They witness
Starting point is 00:52:00 Kibanda fighting toward a gate leading to Bal, and Mephisto confronts him. He says his passage is not permitted. As Kibanda mocks the attempts of Mephisto, some of the librarians die, and others succumb to the black rage. Kibanda manages to force his way through the weakening psychic field, and the remaining librarians manage to sigillite smite him, but they don't banish him. Instead, he falls through a space between worlds. Half of the librarians are dead, the ritual has failed. Cabanda is now a surprise tool that will attack us later. I find... I find...
Starting point is 00:52:35 Sigelite smite. That was one of the better thumbnails of ours with SIGILite smite. I was a fan of that. Oh, yeah, yeah. In the midst of all of this, the Lictor successfully breaks its way into the Arx Angelicum and is actively seeking a vulnerability. The void shield genitorum.
Starting point is 00:52:56 It was followed into the Angelicum by Gene Steeleon. and trigons, both of which caused hell in the hall of sarcophagi. Dante rushes to save the neophytes in their caskets, but he's too late. The hall is destroyed along with all future aspirants. Cool, boy. All, that's a big loss. Jesus. Yeah. All of them. That's, you know, quite, quite the horrific loss physically, but also mentally, as it really feels like the blood angels that are here are the final generation. Even worse, this was all part of the Lictor's plan. Dante is now far from the void genitorum, and with a potent bioacid,
Starting point is 00:53:37 the Lictor destroys the generator, causing the Fortress Monastery to be fully exposed to the books. As the Lictor disintegrates, it feels no satisfaction in what it accomplished, just acknowledgement that its purpose has been completed. And I've got another quote for you here, D.K. Wow, that's a bad turn of it. Black curtains drew over the dome, with swirling masses of flying beast that rushed at the fort. Guns opened up all over the fortress, firing skyward,
Starting point is 00:54:05 and a rain of broken bodies fell thumping onto the armor glass. There were so many of them. Their corpses tumbled down like leaves into the gutters of wetter worlds. Many arrived unharmed. Living things of gargantuan size landed on skidding towns and attack the dome directly. From above came a series of Titanic bangs. The aerial swarm parted. making themselves into a living tornado
Starting point is 00:54:30 up whose funneled Dante looked. Through the maelstrom, thousands of heavy landing pods were falling. They could not lose the arcs. If the fortress fell, they were as good as dead. He could not fight a war on two fronts. Okay. The line,
Starting point is 00:54:49 the storm's part of making this into a living tornado up whose funnel Dante looked. It's really good. It's a really good line. I like that one or what. Yeah. That is a crazy swarm if it's making a literal living maelstrom tornado. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:55:08 There's some good writing in this book. It is one of the good ones. It's genuinely worth read. Even, you know, obviously listen to the episode first because we do a great job. Of course. But this appears to be, you know, the classic case of like quasi-bolter slop that's good. in a sense, you know? Like, we normally joke about bolter slop all the time or like space marine slop, but this is like clearly the good version of that.
Starting point is 00:55:37 Yeah, definitely. So Dante orders everyone to abandon the second line and fall back to the fortress. Though the tide was never truly in their favor, it is now somehow getting even worse. On Bal Primus, Seth is having a grand time killing everything in his path as is expected. The violence is incredible and he is fighting his way to Centaur jewel. Unsurprisingly, the Knights of Blood and Centaur have gotten a bit too into the violence and they are now attacking things aimlessly, including the flesh terrors. They needed to fight together, not against each other, and Seth shows off Amit's relicry and it harms them.
Starting point is 00:56:16 Seth says that they need to get out of here. The relic needs to be returned to the Basilica Sanguinarum. Balprimus is lost. They need to go to Barl itself for a final stand. I will also point out that the first mention of Bale Primus, there was a Primus sucks right after it, which I forgot to include. So I'll put it in there just for you, Possum, just for you. And the eight Primus fans in the audience. However, never call him non-belivalent.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Something is about to happen that will make the idea of this retreat, nothing more than a fantasy. As Dante pushes back against the nightmares in the fortress, he is updated about how much. how bad things are going and they're going really badly. Various Aries in the arcs have fallen and chapters are dying out left and right. That by itself is a horrifying statement. Not space birds. Yeah, chapters. Hey, Dante, just checking in.
Starting point is 00:57:15 We lost three more chapters. Hope you're doing well morally. Which is when you think about it, 3,000 space marines. and whatever their associated additional bits are, like their Terminator armor, their rhinos, their land raiders, their Storm Ravens. Their gene seed. Oh yeah, because that's me eating.
Starting point is 00:57:38 There's no recovering that. Yeah, you're not getting that back. That's getting yon-d-n-dom-mob-munt by nids. This is horrible. It's not good. The Suns of Sanguinius, terrible time. Terrible time. They are standing their ground,
Starting point is 00:57:54 but the ground is falling out beneath. them. Now, obviously, we couldn't include every instance of of Balter Chaos and Nonsense, but we did want to include some of the upcoming Ace Combat 8 DLC they added during this battle. Showing his fucking... Yes! ...in-fielder. In the skies, uh, on a Thunderhawk.
Starting point is 00:58:15 And you know what, Bricky? You can have this one. Hell yeah. I'm being sponsored by Ace Combat 8. Let's go. I played it. It doesn't matter. My lord, Vox the pilot, we will have to turn back. We cannot pass this swarm. It is a wall in the sky. Hold your course, stated Mephistin and open the rear ramp. I shall return in a few moments, brothers.
Starting point is 00:58:40 There were warriors from other chapters within the Thunderhawk who had never seen Mephisto in action. Rackalus grinned at their reactions. Mephisto unlocked his boots from the floor and strode towards oblivion. Empiric energy coursed through the transport hold as Mephistan, its focus. With a crackling snap, wings of ruby energy unfurled from his back, and Mephistan leapt into the air without breaking his stride, drawing the sword Vitaris as he took flight. Mephistam streaked past the gunships into the swarm, the globe of energy went. Wait, he streaked past the gunships into the swarm, the globe of energy went.
Starting point is 00:59:18 The skies flashed for a hundred miles around, with unnamed, natural oras. The Tyrannids disappeared as Mephistan's wrath consumed them. He just jumped off the ship and said, I'll do it my fucking self, I guess. He just jumped off wings of blood and just obliterated all the nids in the sky. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know what? You know what?
Starting point is 00:59:42 Good enough. Welcome back Noble One Carter from Halo Reach. Jeez. I mean, I knew Mephiston was strong. I didn't know he was all that. You know, I keep seeing, I keep seeing, I keep seeing,
Starting point is 00:59:56 I keep seeing people run Mephiston in tabletop games when he was always like, not very good very often. And I, I get it now. I get it now. Yeah. Because it's going to be really hard for you to take away
Starting point is 01:00:13 my Commissar Graves Pimp Mobile from my guard army right now, because it's just so ridiculous. And I'm, I'm feeling it now. I'm seeing the why. God, he made energy blood wings for himself, man. That's the aura, the damn, dude.
Starting point is 01:00:30 I was going to say, the blood wings, if anything, are the less impressive part. They just look good. The skies flashed for a hundred miles. A hundred miles around him. He just psychic blew up 100 miles of tyrannids in the sky. Yeah, that's right. We can't go that way. There's simply too many enemies.
Starting point is 01:00:53 Okay. I shall remove all of them. And then you can keep flying by. Like, it's just so, it's mad. It's mad how broken he is in that. Everybody in the ship's like, why did you do this sooner? What the fuck, Mephiston? You could have saved a chapter or two.
Starting point is 01:01:10 Mephiston actually out here being like, all right, I peered into the shadow of the warp. All right, I've opened up the gateway to Korn's realm. Now it's time for me to become like a ball of energy. He's just doing things. He's just, he's like the main character in some, like some Souls game and now he can fight God. And no wonder they named the Red after him. Named Ultramarine kills one big book. Plus armor, cringe poster boy scum.
Starting point is 01:01:39 My face don't kills an entire high fleet based. You're missing an extremely important part of that, shy. The Ultramarine kills it through the power of courage and honor and this bolter I found. where the blood angel decided to sprout wings of sanguine and fly at them screaming. There's a huge difference between those two. Smidge, bitch, the little. So at this point, the ability to Vox other Battle Brothers is becoming increasingly hard. Captain suggests a full retreat into an inner sanctum potentially muster a more cohesive stand,
Starting point is 01:02:19 and Dante orders this to be done. They will all fall back to the Citadel and stand firm there with whatever armaments they have. As he makes this request, he feels strange. He suddenly feels lightheaded and he feels pressure behind his eyes. The others around him are experiencing the same thing. Malthus of the exanguinators asks what kind of tyrannid bullshit is this, but whatever it is, it's not specifically tyrannid-flavoured bullshit. They witness as all the servitors begin to jabber and moan before that jabbering
Starting point is 01:02:49 turns to screaming. The few psychas in the monastery collapse. It would be as if a cyclonic torpedo hit the side of the monastery and Dante would feel a sickness deep in his soul. Tiranid feeding tubes would break and fall from the sky and a horrific sound from across the entirety of the system with the collective screaming of the hive mind as a darkness would engulf them. A purple fire would overwhelm all the worlds and no matter how psychically potent someone's mind was, they would feel the pain of this event. The tyrannids would be reduced to trillions of unthinking animals with no purpose. D.K., this is for you. Oh, all right, cool. For the first time in its existence, the hive mind tasted death. In the ball system, hundreds of thousands of tyrannids died. Their brain stems
Starting point is 01:03:40 reduced to smoking mulch by psychic feedback. Aggressive void predators became drifting hulks in the space of an instant. In the Strategium, Dante collapsed unconscious. Thousands of space marines of the blood followed him. Many awoke with no memory of who they were. Their scarred minds full of visions of Sanguinius' death.
Starting point is 01:04:01 The end of their own lives in madness and blood beckoned. The cicatrix maledictum had opened. Of course, what else other way do you want to defeat the ternids than having something else?
Starting point is 01:04:16 sheer dumb luck better to be lucky than smart and better to be lucky than dead too I don't know if this counts as luck I'll be real with you I don't know I guess that's true it's like hooray ball is saved what did that
Starting point is 01:04:33 Abadon destroyed Cadia oh and there's now a galactic tear that has cut us in half it's like oh thousands of them went unconscious and a lot woke up not knowing who they were or were just fully in the grip of the black rage. That's like, on the one hand, okay, yeah,
Starting point is 01:04:54 the tyranids are not as much of a threat anymore. On the other hand, the overall state of the blood angels just as an entity. Yeah. Not great. Not the best. It is very like classic big, big like 40K event where things look absolutely atrocious
Starting point is 01:05:11 but somehow sort of get a little bit resolved by something more. atrocious happening. You know, it's, it's, it's, it's kind of classic in that respect, but it's still, yeah, it's not, it's not great news for bald as a whole. But it is news. It is news. I don't think, well, I mean, I guess it's different or something, right? Tante waking up being like, Tante waking up being like, damn it, I once again wish I was dead. I thought this was it. You've taken it away from me again. Again! Now, two entities would seize the opportunity that the tearing of the galaxy would offer. Master Gerin Lita would sense that the shadow in the warp had lifted for a moment, and if there was a chance to send out a plea for help, this would be it.
Starting point is 01:06:00 He can't sense the light of the Astronomicon, though, so he can't tell if the message is even worth sending, but he does. He pushes through and sends one final desperate message to save Ball. The second entity that would seize this opportunity would be Cabanda. His falling in the space between worlds would end as he would materialize over Ball Primus. Nice. Of course.
Starting point is 01:06:24 A shy insert image of plonked or squiborid falling through Davy Jones' lockers like zipper thing. You know that time. I've seen that meme. I've seen that one. Oh, you got that one. I know that one. Yes. I know that one.
Starting point is 01:06:37 Yes. It's not on Twitter like a month ago. Yeah, I know this one. So the prize that was Baal itself now stands far away from where manifested, and he is really unhappy about it. But you can't keep a good corn demon down for long. He will open a rift into Corn's realm, and demons would pour through on the surface of Baal Primus. Both Seth and Centaur jewel have been working their way to the extraction point so they could be rescued by Thunderhawks when the arrival of the beast is much. marked. His presence is overwhelming, but particularly to the Knights of Blood, because as before he
Starting point is 01:07:14 established, they're a bunch of fucking lunatics. They had already been a beastial and nightmarish chapter, but Cabanda's presence accelerated this. Jewel removes his helmet in front of Seth, revealing a face not unlike those fully overwhelmed with the black rage. He knows that if he and his chapter were to make it out alive, they would be hunted down by the surviving blood angels. He and the rest of his chapter are unable to control themselves, and he would not allow the chapter to be destroyed under these circumstances. Nor would he allow Cabanda's presence to force his chapter into serving corn. He tells Seth to remember his and his chapter's sacrifice, and to never let their chapter meet the same fate. Seth and the flesh tear his escape, as Centaur, Jewel and his men face down Cabander directly.
Starting point is 01:08:00 The demon offers him a place by his side, obviously, and Jule tells him that his time here is limited and his host is already unraveling. Cabanda says that he will still die this day and Jules says that he doesn't give a shit. Sanguinius banished him, but Jule cannot. Instead, he has come to give the demon his testament. They call us monsters, but the fury that gives him strength is not the bastard corns, but the fury of Sanguinius before charging him.
Starting point is 01:08:26 I mean, obviously, kind of a prick, but went out pretty well, I think. That's a Chad way to go out for sure By just spitting in the face of fucking Cabanda Yeah On the Thunderhawks Seth is attempting to calm himself When he witnesses many of the tyrannies in the sky Vanishing along with whatever wretched storm
Starting point is 01:08:47 Had knocked them around But in that same sky he sees something else Heading toward Ball Is the single biggest imperial fleet Seth had ever seen in his life And they are hailing him Now on the surface of Bal and in the eyes of Dante, thanks to some catastrophic fockery, thanks to the warp, it had only
Starting point is 01:09:06 been six days since the Saccharac's Maledictum had opened. For a good amount of time, they'd been able to hold off the tyrannid since they were so disorganized for a while, but in time the hive mind had been able to regain control of the beasts. In the Exus Chapel, Dante pays respect to Sanguinius one final time, as he plans for what he believes will be the end of the sons of Sanguinius, which are so few and so ruined by the horrific battle that they stand as nothing more than a death company. This push will be their legacy, a final stand in the dying of the light. And this is when Dante gives a speech that is highly regarded as one of the best speeches in 40K. So we could sum it up, but that will do a disservice to it. It's actually very good. And we have the end of the speech
Starting point is 01:09:51 here for you, Bricky. Oh boy. No pressure. I prefer. The iconic Dante speech that I've heard many people be like, oh yeah, this is the entire reason to read these books. It's good. It's good. It's also long as hell. So sorry about that. That's all right. Holy shit.
Starting point is 01:10:08 All right. All right. Time to put on the big boy pants. Dante Pau. You know what? This is on my other mod. I'm moving into the... This is main mod or content.
Starting point is 01:10:19 Oh, wow. Damn. Oh, oh boy. Dante paused and reached up behind his head. Seals hissed as he uncoupled the death mask of Sanguinius, exposing his aged face, proudly to his brethren. For a millennia, I have worn this mask, so long that mortal humans on a thousand worlds equate Dante with sanguineas. One has become the other. I have no need of a mask
Starting point is 01:10:48 any longer. I need not wear our Lord's face. He is in here, in my hearts. He banged his fist against his chest. I reveal my face to you, long hidden for shame of the weakness age reveals. I shall wear this mask when I fight in honor of our Lord, but I go into the final battle, not as a poor facsimile of our father, but as commander Louis Dante, son of Ball, son of the great angel, whose living body is the host of the Primark. He paused. 2,000 black helmets looked back expectantly. What say you, warriors of Ball? He said in a ferocious whisper that rose in volume and power, that we let slip the red thirst one final time, and fly upon wings of wrath with our lord unto battle.
Starting point is 01:11:42 I command— shit, I was so close. I commend you all, O ye mighty, to the protection of the great angel. For the emperor, four sanguineous, there is no more beauty to be had from life, so let us then seek a beautiful death. A beautiful death. For the emperor, for sanguineous, the doomed angel shouted. Their voices shook the ruins of the Balsilica sanguinarium. Dante nodded, satisfied.
Starting point is 01:12:13 Then we march. All of those who bear the blood. Chaplain Ordemail summoned the Amarian Guard, opened the gates of the Tower of Amaro, Amario. Let the damned march with the damned. Some of the spelling there fucked me up. Besides that, that speech rocks. Not bad at all.
Starting point is 01:12:35 Not a bad reading of it either, brother. Let's go. You know, it's not quite as good as we watch from death, but it's close, you know? Nothing tops that. Come on. I hate that both you and shy immediately had to bring we watch from death up straight after an actually good bit of writing. We're not allowed to be excited today, okay? We have to be goob.
Starting point is 01:13:01 God, you slaughtered the mood, dude. Come on. Hey. Oh, God. There we go. Yeah. Proper, mate. Propa.
Starting point is 01:13:14 What should become Aussie? Oh, no, no, but that's what we're doing. It's not an episode without a terrible accent from D.K. We know this now. Terrible. Excuse you. I was about to say it. My problem is that they're too good for this.
Starting point is 01:13:34 Yeah, Kiriath, eat shit. I'll be honest, I'm so used to you doing a British accent that even when you're not doing a British one, like the inner critic just speaks up. The second, it's not your accent. Part of me goes, nah. Kiriath is just mad that my British hooligan orc accent is better than his actual British accent.
Starting point is 01:13:58 It's crazy. The jealousy of this man. Wow. Yeah, yeah, curiosity. If you sounded more like an orc, I'd appreciate it. I respect you. Fucking Larpur. I will say the Aussie accent is actually quite good though.
Starting point is 01:14:18 Anyway, look, so with the unleashing of all those damned in the Tower of, oh no. Now, I can't read. The Tower of Amero, that's the one. the remaining sons of Sanguinius take to the battlefield, and for the first time in 12 centuries, Dante embraces the red thirst. His angels' teeth would extrude themselves from his gums, and his worst fear would be realised. To let go and give in to the thirst was nothing short of pleasurable.
Starting point is 01:14:46 What follows is essentially a massive bloodbath. Bolter fire is complemented by pure rage and anger, and they hit the tyrannies with unstoppable hatred. As he fights, he sees suits of power armour stripped of fire. color thanks to acid, but the bodies had not been consumed yet. He fights his way toward hive-known markers when his vision becomes distorted. Seemingly a hallucination, Dante yells that he sees the sanguador when nothing was actually there. He snaps out of it, and he sees nothing besides Battle Brothers fighting alongside him. But they were wearing ancient suits of power armor,
Starting point is 01:15:20 almost as if from the crusade itself. At this point, the battlefield is flickering between the past and present in Dante's eyes, and as it rips back to the present, he actually does see a familiar glowing light. The sanguanor hovers with a sword in his hand, but surrounding him are other warriors. These warriors have armour clad in black, and they are covered in skulls and bones. Fire streams from their eyes and mouths, and their weapons tear through the tyrannies with blue flames. The Legion of the Damned have come to ball in its time of greatest need. Hell yeah. I love the Legion of the Dam. Rule.
Starting point is 01:15:56 Legend of the damned led by the Sanguanor is quite the image. If you're fighting on their side, it's like, oh yeah, we're going to be all right. I'm starting to feel that we might actually win this because look at all the supernatural bullshit we have now. Excellent. For the first time in his life, Dante felt positive. It's been 1,200 years, but right now, things are looking up for one. Still struggling to see properly, Dante looks to the sanguinal, and for a brief moment, it looks like Sanguineus himself. The arrival of the Legion of the Damned and the Sanguador invigorate the defending angels more as they continue their final push.
Starting point is 01:16:40 I mean, I'm glad it did. If even that wasn't enough to make him go, we might be able to find a way out of this. I don't know what it would take. As the Nid's push with more unreality, he begins to see visions of the vengeful spirit. He feels his wings twitching as his brother stands over him, but Dante snaps out of it. He is not sanguineous, he yells. If he is to die, he will die as Dante. Soon, Dante finds himself face to face with the swarm lord, and he rushes it with the Axe Mortales. Each blow against his armour causing the red thirst to get closer and closer to turning into the black rage.
Starting point is 01:17:17 His after hit, Dante's attacks have made their mark, but he needs a decisive blow if he's going to win. He's running out of strength, and he knows that the Swarm Lord's endurance will always outmatch his own. The thing slams Dante hard, buckling and breaking the Iron Halo's energy field. Alarms would ring in Dante's helm. His suit was failing him, and as the Swarm Lord pinned him, he could feel that he was dying. His second heart was pierced, and whatever he was to do next would be his final action. He would disengage the weapon fail safes on his suit, and with a point-blank shot, he would fire an overloaded shot from the perdition pistol into the face of the swarm lord.
Starting point is 01:17:55 Its brain would fry and the corpse of the creature would collapse onto his own dying body. Dante would laugh as his life faded from his eyes. The darkness would rush him and he would welcome it with open arms. He's finally getting what he's always wanted. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think so. I don't, I don't buy it. I don't buy it.
Starting point is 01:18:17 I don't know why you would assume that poor old Dante would be still not allowed. to die. That is the perfect gift of that. Well, then Dante would have a vision of the sanguanor, but it would once again fade into a visage of Sanguinius. He would call Dante his greatest son and say that he'd suffered greatly for the Imperium. He has earned his rest a thousand times over and he would take him by his side and free him from his pain. Dante is so blissfully happy and begs for this to happen. And, like all good dads, Sanguinius calmly says to his most beloved son, the following. I cannot. I regret that I can do none of these things. I need you, Dante.
Starting point is 01:18:58 Your suffering is not done. I finally get to die. Wait, um, so shy. Always sunny in Philadelphia, Frank, with the, with the board pushing, pushing the, the twins off the off of the building is like, you know, like, pull me up. Oh, no, you don't. You get back down there. I vaguely remember this. We've talked about this at some point, right? This specifically about Dante. I believe it was the Dante episode specifically, I think. Well, that would make sense, wouldn't it?
Starting point is 01:19:37 Yeah, all right. Yep, yep. I do recall this part. Yeah. Yeah. And being like, ooh, sorry, Dante. Not today, brother. Not today.
Starting point is 01:19:46 No, that for you. I'm afraid you've still got stuff to do. So, yeah, the sanguiney. says your suffering is not done before putting another coin into the arcade machine and forcing Dante to respawn, screaming that he wishes to die. As Dante comes to, he sees hundreds of imperial vessels at low anchor as he is being worked on by Captain Carlin and Amajos. Standing beside them were strange space marines. They had armour that matched those of the blood angels, but they both had a grey chevron on their pardron. They were big as well, really fucking big, and their weapons
Starting point is 01:20:19 were weird, really weird. He asks who the hell these guys are and what's happening on Kadia. He's told the Kadia thing isn't really a fun subject at the moment, and the space marines introduced themselves as the unnumbered suns, Primaris Marines. Dante, confused on how he missed the fact
Starting point is 01:20:35 that a new edition of 40K was coming out, asked for some more clarity before being told that there's one guy who will be able to clear up a lot of this for him. Now, this next section is featuring Rubutee Gilliman of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, as expected. Dante has walked past the legions of these Primaris Marines and has a vision of when he first became an angel as he continues upward. The rows of Primaris
Starting point is 01:21:02 begin to look a lot more blue before eventually Dante becomes face to face with Cato Cicarius. Cato asks Dante if he's hurt. And the sanguinary priest, Albinus, is essentially like, what the fuck kind of question of that? Of course he's hurt. We're literally carrying him. give us a hand. Oh, Cato. Oh, Cato. He just can't stop. Wondering if you are injured, Dante.
Starting point is 01:21:28 Because I Cato Cacarius need to know. You, bitch. Oh, God. What a question. Are you all right? His second heart was pierced. He literally just got respawned by the ghost of a primark. What do you think?
Starting point is 01:21:46 I can't say. Why even ask? Kato does, to be fair, apologetically take Dante's hand and walks him a bit further. Dante then walks on his own, and sitting down in the central command node is a primark. By means unknown, Rabutee Gilman had not only come back to life, but he had come to Baal. Dante is baffled and falls to his knees, which is not what Gilliman expected or wanted. I've got a quote for you here, D.K. All right.
Starting point is 01:22:15 Get up, Dante, said Gilliman. gently, I will not accept displays of humility from a man like you. You are one of the few in this era who have earned the right to speak with me on equal terms. Rise. Now. Dante grunted with pain as he attempted to get to his feet. Gileman grasped Dante's puldrons and bodily, hauled a chaptermaster up. Forgive the indignity, Gilemon said. I see you are hurt. Dante nodded, numbly. Never kneel before me again. I will have you stand with me as a mark of respect. I will order you not to if I must. I would rather our relationship not function on those terms.
Starting point is 01:22:53 I have no time for deference. There's too much to do. Though if your pains are great, you may, of course, sit. He said with the ghost of a smile. That's kind of funny. Hey, Dante, stop kneeling. Dante, I can't do anything else. If you're having a hard time, man, you can sit down, but don't kneel.
Starting point is 01:23:13 Yeah. I'm watching. I'm watched with ultramarines and asking if I'm hurt. You fuckers not have eyes? There's a big hole right where my heart is. What do you think? A little trail of blood behind it. You good?
Starting point is 01:23:35 The more I think about it, the funnier that's getting to me, that Cato is like, are you hurt? given that a swarm lord collapsed on top of him having beaten the shit out of him my brain is just adding extra bits of damage to the armour like more holes more scorch marks there's more blood I feel like there's just one cut right across the face
Starting point is 01:23:57 that is constantly pouring with it it just the more it goes on the more I'm like yeah like is he just colossally inobservant or is he just being a prick I don't know which it would be I mean for Cato
Starting point is 01:24:12 I'm going to assume the second. Little from column A, little from column B, you know. Pouring a bit of salt into the very literal wound. So Dante would weep and say that he'd failed. He called the chapters together and they were all lost to save Bale. The Arx Angelicum was in ruins, thousands are dead and Bal is devastated and all he can beg for is forgiveness. Gellman essentially is like, what the fuck are you talking about? you stopped them all. The Hive fleet was so depleted that can be easily cleaned up.
Starting point is 01:24:46 The endometheus crusade is scouring the system of the last remnants. Dante achieved what few others have done by destroying a tendril. He would congratulate Dante, but what he had achieved was so incredible that a simple congratulations could never fully encompass it. There was nothing to forgive. Overwhelmed with his pain and the presence of a living primark, Dante would collapse. Later, as Dante is healed, he learns of the state of the galaxy, of the fall of Cadia, of the split, across the galaxy itself. Dante is assured that not only will Baal be rebuilt, but so will his legion. They will soon be able to create their own Primaris Marines. Gilliman must leave soon, as his final mission here was to reinforce and defend Baal.
Starting point is 01:25:29 He needed to return to the primary segmentum. Unfortunately, before he goes, he adds to Dante's burdens. The blood angels are needed more than ever and he can't let Dante retreat from the role of hero. Dante is to be the warden of the Imperium Nihilus, commander of all imperial forces of the Great Rift. Dante says that he'll do his best, and Gileman says that his best is more than he could wish for.
Starting point is 01:25:53 Just think, not that long ago, Dante was finally, literally dying and so ready to go. And now it's essentially, you have control of a good chunk of the Imperium. Good look. Senguania said he was needed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got this half. You could have that half.
Starting point is 01:26:13 Yep. Wait, remind which half does he, does he get the Tara half? Or does he get the scary far away half? He gets the scary half. He gets an eyeless. Of course he does. That's fucked up, Gilliamen, man. That's not, that's not cool.
Starting point is 01:26:27 Gilliamen, you're a prime mark. Well, I guess, I guess maintaining terror is probably more important, I guess. Yeah, I guess. And I guess ball is on the other side. but like, yeah, you get, you get the dark zone. Good luck, Dante. Yeah, yeah. I mean, with the, well, no, no, no, it's cool, you know, because like, obviously, you know,
Starting point is 01:26:50 good old, good old Gilliman has the Ultima segmentum, you know, the segmentum tempest, and it's, it's only fair that we give, give Dante, you know, the demons maw, the Malfactus, the storm of the Emperor's wrath, the bleak coil, the halo stars, the ghoul stars. It's only fair. It's only fair. To be fair, though, Dantus, we're like, oh, fuck yeah, dude, if I'm going to die anywhere, it's absolutely in there. I'll probably last a day. This is the best news I've ever gotten.
Starting point is 01:27:22 Sanguinius, keep the engine on. I'm coming home, right? Keep the lights on, darling. I'll be back. I'm coming home soon, baby. He's like, He's like, hooray, thanks, Gilevin. Even I'm not going to be able to survive this shit hole.
Starting point is 01:27:38 This is great. Yeah, exactly. It's even funny or not that I think about it because isn't it like in the current timeline right now, they're all still fighting over that tiny little spot between Katie and vigilis that like the one acceptable way to get through? Pretty much, yeah. I think that's still like the focal point, isn't it? Yeah, so is Dante just like over there just like doing his best?
Starting point is 01:28:10 Yeah. This sucks. Literally a week ago, he came back to life screaming that he still wanted to die and then he got given that. God damn. No wonder he's fed up. You know, he's earned the break. We've said it before. He's earned the rest and he's not getting any.
Starting point is 01:28:30 He's on. also old. Really old. Really old. Also, there's just a small thing, but I do like the casual, the casual diss that Gilliman has for almost everyone else in the era that he has woken up in. You are one of the few in this era who have owned the right to speak with me on equal terms.
Starting point is 01:28:53 It's basically just like, everyone else I've met has been an absolute wanker. You, however, you're cool. That's like, that's, that's, that's not just praise for Dante. That is a damning indictment of literally everyone else he's spoken to pretty much. I mean, he spent the whole time dealing with like zealots. Yeah, if you think of when Gilliman went to sleep versus when he woke up, yeah. You can definitely see it, can you? It's just like, oh, for fuck sake, what is this mess?
Starting point is 01:29:27 Oh, wait, this, this 1,200-year-old man, whatever, he's actually, he's pretty cool. He gets stuff done. He's almost as old as me. He's just, maybe at a zero, but you know. So in the end, only ball primus was truly dead.
Starting point is 01:29:50 But oddly, millions upon millions of tyrannid bones on that world were structured in the southern hemisphere into the shape of a run, the demonic run of Cabander. Gilliman scoffs at the audacity of the Neverborn. but in the end it's the Imperium that remains strong on these worlds.
Starting point is 01:30:05 Even if, you know, Cabanda may have had a, you can't kill the blood angels because that's my purpose, scope of attack, against the now fully eradicated tendril of tyrannids. There is an element of that to it, which is very fun. It's just like, no, no, this is my job. My brain, yeah. Yeah, you lot can fuck right off. This is what I'm, this is what I want, not what you're getting.
Starting point is 01:30:29 Regardless, the planets in these systems were hell, both after the conflict and before the conflict, and as a lesser task, Dante is to make them better. They need to be transformed, rebuilt, and that fucking ruin has got to go. Fourteen weeks later, the Indomitus crusade would depart. He would watch as a cyclonic torpedo would fall toward Balprimus, eradicating the monument and turning it to dust. The warden of the gates adincio would offer Dante the Axe Mortales and say that the chapters of blood awaited his command.
Starting point is 01:31:00 He would take the axe in silence and raise it over his head before yelling for Sanguinius and the Emperor, and tens of thousands of Primarus Space Marines would roar it back to him. In the end, the losses were massive. Like the Imperium got absolutely smacked around. All but one of the sanguinary guard were killed in battle. Many chapters were completely eradicated. The Angels Excellus and the Knights of Blood had died in glory and in flames. Other chapters fully wiped out include the Angels Glorious, the Blood Wings, the Birdwings,
Starting point is 01:31:30 blood and the brothers of Jarad. Some chapters, like the Golden Suns, would be eradicated, but successfully brought back to life thanks to the efforts of the Primaris Project and the salvaging of Gene Seed. Those chapters that did survive were lucky if they had half their original numbers, and many hardly had a quarter. The conflict felt like it lasted only a few days, thanks to the opening of the Great Rift, but it was a hell of a lot longer for those not impacted by the warpfuckery, which explains why it seems like Gilliman showed up super quick when it was actually a good amount of time before he actually made it to Boll.
Starting point is 01:32:04 Oh. In, yes, 12, 12 chapter master's time. That's insane. Also, all but one sanguinary guard.
Starting point is 01:32:15 Yeah, that's crazy. That's insanity. You don't replace sanguinary guard. That's like losing a Terminator. You don't just replace Terminator armor like you don't replace sanguinary guards,
Starting point is 01:32:27 right? No, it's more of a position. I don't really know. I don't think Sanguinary Guard, I mean, they probably do have some fancy armor. You can't relocate because everything is that way in 40K. Well, they used.
Starting point is 01:32:39 Yeah, yeah. Maybe that's not the case anymore, whatever it is. Point being is that Sanguinary Guard, I think, is more of a position. And, like, they do have fancy armor. That is true. I don't know the details. Regardless, having one left is still insane. Yeah, that's great.
Starting point is 01:32:56 It's rough. That's real rough. In darkness in the blood we see the rebuilding efforts on Barl in full swing as Dante walks around the scaffolding and building materials around the Arcs Angelica. The efforts were extensive, resulting in essentially a city rising where only sand had ruled for thousands of years. On the road leading out of the maxillary gate are a dozen giant statues, all of which represented the chaptermasters of the blood who had died during the devastation. We don't get all the names, but it stated that some of them include Castellan Zago, of the angels in Carmine, and Centaur jewel the last master of the Knights of Blood. Five chapter masters alone had died within the walls of the fortress monastery, and many of them
Starting point is 01:33:37 had died along with the entirety of their chapters. Though their traditions had died with their men, their names and colours live on. Upon the plinths of the statues, Dante ordered the same thing to be inscribed. One blood, one brotherhood. It's not a bad end. Wait, so... Night of Blood. I was about to say, wait, so the huge douchebag dude, the Gabriel Seth died? Yeah, the guy who was a bit. Yeah, he killed the guy who was like, drink from this. He got a giant statue.
Starting point is 01:34:08 He got a statue, huh? Yeah, okay. To be fair, that him and his entire chapter did sacrifice themselves so the flesh terrorists could get away. So, I mean, they're the ones that bum-rushed Cabanda, right? The Knights of Blood, right? Yes. I mean, I guess, I guess. I guess. I mean, no, I'm not saying one good deed, you know, palaces out.
Starting point is 01:34:33 A lifetime of being a nutter. But it did get him a statue. It did get a statue. I don't know, man. That kind of was the entire rule of point of the night lord books was like, here's Lucoraphyst who's like insane and eating people. But he helped Deltri and Servitor that one time at a, like a kindness act.
Starting point is 01:34:55 So clearly he's cool. Yeah. Boy, I hope Jewel's statue really depicts him like ripping apart an innocent civilian and eating his guts, as he would have wanted it. What's that famous image of like the death company guy on his knees, like with his hands out, like blood from his mouth? Like that. Oh, is this, when Seth asked if the Knights of Blood could be reborn using the primary space marines as well, Dante refused to do so. So Dante's like, they're cool, but no.
Starting point is 01:35:30 We're not bringing them back. They can have a statue, but that's it. We're not, we're not doing that. They are staying dead. Fuck them. I mean, they were a fully renegade chapter. So I guess it would be a little weed. Before we go today, we're going to end this episode with a quick look at the story we ended the previous episode with, the story of Weewee the Water Seller and his son.
Starting point is 01:35:56 Now, someone pointed out how you actually pronounce that in the comments of the last episode, but I forgot to check before we started. And it's too late now, so sorry to that one person. Now, after Tantan, literally, as I was reading it, I was like, oh, yeah, I meant to look that up. Oh, well. Now, oh, like Luigi without, without the L. Okay.
Starting point is 01:36:17 Uigi? Oichi? Oweeachie. Oweee. Oweeee. Ness. Nah, he's always Weigwee. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:36:27 Yeah, they could be lying. Also, Weigwe is better. So we're just going to stick with that. I acknowledge what you've said, and I ignore it. We're going to talk about Weegwe, the water cellar,
Starting point is 01:36:38 and his son. Now, after Dante announced that all able-bodied people would be conscripted on Bilesacundus, this, of course, meant that Weewe was conscripted. He would be very resentful of this, especially since this is the second time
Starting point is 01:36:49 the Blood Angels had explicitly ruined his life. He resented them for what happened to Teus, and now he had to fight for them while also protecting his son. His son is able to spot the movement of tyrannids and is able to protect his father this way. During an early stage of the conflict, Weewe and his son witnessed the release of a death company to combat a horde of tyrannids as line after line collapses. As his father's strength fails, his son drags him and helps him whenever he can, despite all the abuse he's faced. The prolonged conflict resulted in something unfortunate happening to Weewee. he had been poisoned by the bioforms.
Starting point is 01:37:24 They would be taken to the arched morars for safety and his son would be scared for his father's health. They would wait for treatment and care and all he could do was assure his son that he'd be fine. They would be approached by an angel who would begin to assess them. Weigwe would expect the angel to focus on how he was feeling, but the angel was more concerned about the child. The angel would ask him what happened to his son
Starting point is 01:37:44 and Weigwe would say that it was the angel's fault. He had tried to be an angel, but he would suffer an injury at the place of challenge. The angel would say that his son was lucky because there's hundreds of ways to actually just die at the place of challenge the angel is not surprised that he was rejected at the time but his genetics are perfect
Starting point is 01:38:01 for the blood angels, free from a loss of the barlight deformities. Due to how thin the numbers are, the sun is now recruitable and the brain damage is repairable. All these all good things.
Starting point is 01:38:18 Good things come to those who... I mean, all this time weigwe's been like the kids ruined the angels messed him up this is absolutely awful I hate this
Starting point is 01:38:29 my life has been irrevocably changed by this horrible event and then to just be told oh well you know we're desperate and he was fixable this whole time don't worry about it
Starting point is 01:38:41 we'll sort that absolute absolute bastard behaviour from that blood angel let's be honest I like that this is understatement of the century, by the way. Weigwe would be shocked and frustrated. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:59 Yep. I bet. And the angel would confirm that these are unusual times with unprecedented actions. Many are being recruited and the rest are going to be thralls. As for Weigwe, he is going to die. Wait, wait, what? He's had it. He's contaminated by the tyrantids, and there's no cure.
Starting point is 01:39:26 Jesus Christ. I mean, wow. Weigree would essentially ask the angel where his bedside manner is, and the angel would say that all things die. How else is he supposed to inform him? No, okay, no, like, not going to lie. I know devastation of Ball is like the Blood Angels book, but I got to be honest, I'm enjoying the slander.
Starting point is 01:39:51 This is great. I'm glad we're still able to remind ourselves often that the, the Blood Angels and their associated successors are, you know, not always the nicest. Yeah. Yeah, it's the last surviving night of blood is this guy. It's, you know what, it's funny you've mentioned that, Because it genuinely does get worse.
Starting point is 01:40:18 Oh no. Weigree would look at his son and his son would ask him if he was proud. Weigree would not and the angel would ask him what his son's name was. He would say Teas. The angel would ask Weigree for his name and you would tell him. The angel would ask if he accepted the emperor's mercy and Weigree would say yes. Oh my God. He would begin to apologize to Teos before the
Starting point is 01:40:44 angel snapped his neck. He didn't even get to finish talking to his son. Oh my, didn't he didn't even get to finish the sentence? Mid-sentence as he's talking to a son. Teus, I'm really proud to... Holy shit. That's crazy, dude. Dude, this is...
Starting point is 01:41:08 I'm not saying this isn't worse than it, but this is like Gaskell, it's rock of warlords, of warlords, Templar slander levels That's wild Yeah the bedside manner could use a little work Right that's a little bit yeah Yeah yeah Do you accept that Emperor's mercy?
Starting point is 01:41:26 Yeah just like doesn't even finish the word He doesn't even he doesn't even like kneel him down And lop his head off with like a power sword or nothing He just like uses his hands Yeah he just snaps his neck Just and that's it Done easy quick and easy No need to worry about it
Starting point is 01:41:43 all over. Probably just use two of his fingers to pinch him, too. Yeah. So, he would begin to apologize to Teas before the angel snapped his neck, and Teus would scream that he killed his dad. And the angel would tell him that this was mercy, not murder. His father's death would be more painful if he were to live, and that he took kindness when it was offered over agony.
Starting point is 01:42:10 Now, I mean, technically, yes, he did say, I'll have the... Okay, that's the difference between like days to weeks. You could have given him 10 minutes. You absolutely could have given him 10 minutes. You couldn't give him 30 seconds to finish the odd shots. It didn't even need a full minute, man. Jesus. I have one final quote with which we shall end the episode.
Starting point is 01:42:39 And you can do this one, D.K. Oh, lovely. The angel reached out his hand. It is misfortune you witnessed his death, but there are many things we never think to see, said the angel. What was sundered can again be made whole. Be thankful. We live in an age of wonders. Come with me, be healed, and become my brother.
Starting point is 01:43:03 Hesitantly, the boy stood. With a backward glance at his father's corpse, he allowed the angel's thralls to lead him away. It's so funny, man. It is misfortune, you witnessed his death. No, that was you. No, the misfortune is on the room with us. Dude, that is so funny. I can't believe they really like, all right.
Starting point is 01:43:37 You know, you know what? I'm like, you know, I'm okay with a little bit of like Rura, Roo Roo Rha, space marine porn. But I didn't quite expect that we could actually hit a full length. Yeah, by the way, these guys suck moments as well. Yeah. They sure do. It's very much like a kind of, you've seen all the heroics.
Starting point is 01:43:59 You've seen these people give up their very lives. Just a reminder, though, real pricks. A lot of these, like really, really horrible people. Just a reminder, like, these are the heroes of your story, by the way. It's the, it is misfortune you witnessed his death that just keeps getting me. It wasn't, it wasn't unlucky. You did it. It's like, you can't say, oh man, you're ashamed about that accident when you've just snapped his neck.
Starting point is 01:44:32 You couldn't wait, couldn't wait, couldn't wait, five minutes. So we're having to be out of the room. Even 10 seconds, man. Give him 10 seconds. You couldn't give him. Like, dude, that's crazy. I wonder if there's, like, some kind of, like, I bet he's got some crap about, like, well, you know, the heart must be hardened for the kind of things we're going to do, you know, and yada, yada, yada. What a wrong way to die.
Starting point is 01:45:09 Oh dear. Well, that was possibly a slightly not as solemn way to end, but that was the devastation of Baal. It all worked out in the end. Danté got to die for all of about 10 seconds, then got more misery piled on top. The Blood Angels nearly got wiped out completely, as did a lot of the successor chapters. But it's fine because they got Primaris Marines. So we're all good, happy ending, especially for Tejas, who only had to watch. his dad get killed by a space marine. Are we really going to say it all worked out? I don't think that's how those words work. I mean, this is a Pyrrhic imperial dub. You knew it was coming. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:55 I mean, one sanguinary guard, brother, one 12 dead chapter masters. A lot of them with their entire chapter. The entire Knights of Blood Oh, I just want to remind you as well The 40 inhabited worlds in the Red Scar
Starting point is 01:46:16 All exterminate artists So those are all gone as well Oh right, I forgot about that There's also To try to starve them out, yeah The Crypter Shield Those worlds all gone as well So, you know, definitely Pirick
Starting point is 01:46:30 Definitely Perry. This is the The Piric Imperial dub if we can even, I guess it's a dub? I mean, this certainly, it certainly wasn't the victory of Ball. We've said that before. No.
Starting point is 01:46:45 No, what of Ball, Keriop? It's the devastation. It's how it works. It's fine. It all worked out. Also, just a minor thing. And only because I saw this comment earlier, someone did point out that we didn't even pick up on a certain issue in the first episode with, you know, there's that big
Starting point is 01:47:05 asteroid belt that's all. really cold. So when the tyrannies went through it, it created like a blade of armour. And it made it harder to shoot them and whatever. Right, right. Something that I didn't even think about at the time, which really, we should have caught. I would love to sit and pick the brain of the writer, because I can't remember which author it was that did that part of that, like, supplement.
Starting point is 01:47:34 space is all one temperature in it? I was literally, yes, yes. I believe the temperature is not. It's not. It's empty. It's a vacuum. It's, yeah. The idea that the space that Tyrannus would get colder going through that particular part of space,
Starting point is 01:47:59 at the time, didn't really think about it, but as soon as I saw that comment, I was like, yeah, what? What's your cold going through that bit? It's 40K. I'm sure it was actually some warf shenanigans. Don't worry. It's fine. I mean, we make Gellerfields by, you make Gellerfields by dreaming reality around your ship.
Starting point is 01:48:20 Are we really going to quabble about temperature in space? Maybe a little bit. Maybe just a little bit. Just a little bit? Okay. Let's make a whole episode. You're so right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:33 Yeah. You were wrong about space 40K Well, take us down period two full episodes on the devastation of Baal.
Starting point is 01:48:47 It was a horrible time for all involved including the tyrannids which is something of a rarity. I mean, they got absolutely annihilated by the Great Rift opening.
Starting point is 01:48:56 So everyone had a terrible time but in the end the most important thing is that Dante is still alive and still suffering. And that's really all we care about, isn't it? Two full balls, he said.
Starting point is 01:49:10 Two full balls. Very neat, I think. I thought we were going to end the episode on two full balls being repeated. I was like, really? Are we going out? Is that how we're going out with the devastation of all? Is this, is this it? Is this our legacy?
Starting point is 01:49:28 Yeah, no, the balls have been emptying. Yeah. I think we need to just cut it at a certain point mid-sentence with a neck snapping sound. Do it that way. Just made way through a word. That's a good point. That's a good point. Adrick crew, I'm very proud.
