Starting point is 00:00:00 I think of your subconscious mind as your reality printer. It literally is like a 3D printer that's constantly printing your reality based off of what you believe. The challenge is that most people have no idea what they actually believe. Okay, welcome to this episode of Receive. I am your host, Jen Detsasey. And today we're going to be talking about the no BS science behind manifestation. So I love manifestation and oftentimes people can think that it's very woo-woo and it can be, right? And that's beautiful and amazing. But it's also based in science and it's based in psychology and it's based in the way that our brains work. And when we tune into that, it creates so much more belief that this is how it works and this is how we create our reality.
Starting point is 00:00:54 And it gives us so much more power to truly shift and improve the quality of our lives when we aren't, just trying to hustle in the 3D and hustle in the physical world when we actually tap into the unseen forces, right? The unseen forces that allow us to create reality. We all are okay believing in electricity even though we can't see it. We can experience it. And when we start to tune in to manifestation and the energetics behind it, we can actually also experience it and experience it in our lives. So I want to give you kind of the science behind it. And there's really two schools of thought I think about when I think about the science behind manifestation. I think about the psychology. So today what I'm going to focus more on so that way I can go a little deeper is the
Starting point is 00:01:38 psychology and the subconscious science behind it. And then we'll do another episode later on that will be more on the quantum physics, which is so freaking cool. So the most simple way to kind of kick kick off this discussion is this idea that I created a couple of years ago. And what I call it is the tier method. So tier as in T-E-A-R. And what it stands for is thought. thoughts, emotions, actions, results. And that's the simplest way that we can think of at the most high level, how we manifest our reality, right? Our thoughts create our emotions, which create our actions, which create our results, which are our manifestations and our reality. The thing that most of the time we don't realize is that a lot of our thoughts are not conscious. We're not aware of them, right? They're
Starting point is 00:02:23 operating and going on in the background in our subconscious mind. When we can start tapping into those thoughts and start shifting them, we shift this entire cascade because our thoughts are going to create our emotions and our emotions are that fuel that's going to drive our action. And if we're doing something with unaligned emotions, it's going to be half as powerful as if we align our emotions with it. Right. If I'm writing an email and I'm like, okay, let me try to be nice, but I'm actually really fuming with anger, that email is going to transmit that energy and it's going to come across very differently, not only in the words I say, but also the frequency that the person gets, the response will be very different because my emotional piece was different. But let's say that I am
Starting point is 00:03:08 actually really grateful for this person and I flow that gratitude into that email. They're going to feel it, right? That's going to create different actions, a different result for me. When we want to manifest something new, we can kind of think of this as the starting point. We want to shift our thoughts so that way we shift our emotions and our actions and our results. That's that cascade that happens. And we'll get a little bit deeper into that. And I wanted to share a couple of things about why I'm so big about thoughts and mindset and shifting our mindset that are rooted in science and that we often don't think about.
Starting point is 00:03:44 So one study that I recently read that was a Harvard study was that optimists actually live 11 to 15% longer than non-optimists than pessimists. than pessimists. And what I find amazing about that is I think there's oftentimes this idea that like pessimists are more realistic or that they're going to get farther in life because they're more realistic. When in reality, research is showing the opposite. Research actually shows that optimists are also more successful because what happens in your brain is that your brain is able to find more solutions and is more creative when you are in a higher vibration, happier, more optimistic emotions. When we close down our mind, when we're more pessimistic, when we're more focused on
Starting point is 00:04:26 the negative, we actually do not have as much access to solving the problems that experience in our life. So that was the first study that I wanted to share about. The second one is, which I really, really liked, is that your beliefs about aging, whether or not you believe positively about aging or negatively about aging, will result in a 7.5 year increase on your life. So what they found in this study, it was a Yale study, that the people who had positive beliefs about the aging process and about themselves aging and they weren't like, oh, God, I'm aging and my life is going to end, those people who were positive about it, who viewed it with optimism, lived 7.5 years longer. Pretty amazing. And that speaks to the power of our thoughts and the power of our beliefs and the
Starting point is 00:05:13 power of our expectations. So I experienced this in real life. my first job out of college, I was a teacher. I did Teach for America, which is a program where they put recent college graduates, like high achieving college graduates into inner city schools where they don't have enough teachers. It was an amazing experience, but I was horribly underqualified. I was 21 years old at the time. I graduated college early. And I was responsible for six periods of 30 to 40, 13 year olds. I taught eighth grade, 12 to 13 year olds. And what? we were responsible for doing was helping them pass the California state science test. And I knew, I don't know how I knew this at 21 years old, but somehow I knew that I was like, if these kids
Starting point is 00:06:00 believe that they can pass this test, then I know that they will pass this test. So not only did I teach them about the material on the test, but I focused on building their confidence. I focused on helping them see that because they came from low income families, because a lot of them did not speak English or their family didn't speak English. It didn't matter that they could still pass this test with flying colors, that they could still do just as well as everyone else. And as a result, 98% of my students passed, which the year before it was significantly less than that. Because my expectation became their expectation. And this is shown in research. It's called the Pygmalian effect, that your expectation of someone will be reflected back in their behavior.
Starting point is 00:06:43 So I expected all of my kids, and they knew this, I expected them to not only pass that test. And there was a huge portion of my kids who got the highest marks you could get on the test. That was because of my expectation. I didn't buy into their story of limitation. I didn't buy into that. What you expect in your reality will be created in your reality. And so that's part of this science behind how manifestation works. And the reason for that has a huge part.
Starting point is 00:07:13 to do with our subconscious mind. I think of your subconscious mind as your reality printer. It literally is like a 3D printer that's constantly printing your reality based off of what you believe. The challenge is that most people have no idea what they actually believe. They think they do because they're aware of some of it, but there's most of it, 95% of your subconscious programming, your beliefs, your identity, your emotional memory, your habits, your patterns, 95% of that is subconscious, meaning it operates outside of your awareness. So if we have subconscious expectations that money is hard to make, I'm never going to succeed. This business is going to be difficult. No one's ever going to love me. Then reality, your reality printer is going to print that out for you.
Starting point is 00:08:05 It's going to print it out over and over and over again until you change that programming, until you shift that programming. Because your subconscious mind, it's not deciding, okay, you know what, I really want her to thrive. So we're going to do this. It literally is just following instructions. It is like a printer. You tell the printer what to print and it prints it.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Your subconscious mind does not necessarily care what you consciously want. It prioritizes safety. And it equates safety with familiarity. So if it believes that you having a loving relationship is unsafe because of your ex who cheated on you, it's not going to make that easy for you to recreate, right? It's going to create behaviors like self-sabotage, like never wanting to go on dates, like finding it really difficult to connect with anyone, right? Not being interested.
Starting point is 00:08:54 There's many, many, many ways that our minds will create these behaviors to protect us, right? Because it's just automatically doing it. automatically printing what's believed on that deeper level. If love doesn't feel safe, we'll avoid it. If visibility in your business doesn't feel safe, you'll hide. Right? You might create content that on an unconscious level, you know, it's not going to do that great. It's not your soul speaking. It's watered down content. You may be very inconsistent with creating content. If wealth feels unsafe, you will continue to find ways to stay in scarcity. You might attract money, but then you'll burn it, right? You'll spend it all on this, that, and the other. Understanding that our subconscious
Starting point is 00:09:32 mind is the one that is really printing and creating what we experience and learning to work with it is going to be essential for shifting and changing what we manifest into our reality. Because a big part of our brain is called the reticular activating system. And I think of this as really the gateway to your reality. It's the RAS. And what happens is your mind is constantly taking in tons and tons and tons of information, billions of pieces of information every single second. What your reticular activating system does is it takes all that information,
Starting point is 00:10:07 it deletes, distorts, and generalizes to make that information fit with the beliefs that your mind already has. All of that programming that you grabbed onto and that got stuck and imprinted into your mind at a young age from zero to seven, that is what your reticular activating system is going to filter reality. So if you do not shift and change what those filters are in your reality and in your mind, your reality is going to feel very difficult to change. You're going to feel like, man, I know I want to create change, but I honestly don't know
Starting point is 00:10:45 how it's going to feel like walking through mud. I had a client describe it as she's like, I feel like there's a rubber band around my waist and I'll make progress and then I'll pull me back. And I'll make progress and I'll pull me back. And that's the experience that happens when our subconscious is not aligned with our conscious mind. And so we need to use not traditional tools like therapy. Therapy is a conscious mind approach. We need to use tools that get at that deeper level, right? And that's what I do in my programs. If you're interested in having help with shifting and changing those, that deeper level of your mind,

The reticular activating system is not trying to sabotage us, it exists because we would literally go insane if we are aware of every single thing that was always happening. Right. So what we want to do is just shift and change that programming. So that way, what our mind will go from is filtering our reality based on these old programs belief to filtering our reality based on what actually matters to us, based on our goals, based on our new identity, what we believe about ourselves. One of the things that I want you to think about is that the typical manifestation tools that we think about. So we think about like visualization,
Starting point is 00:12:02 affirmations, scripting. Those are tools that are designed because they're trying to get your reticular activating system to recalibrate to your desired reality. When you repeatedly visualize something with emotion, it's informing your subconscious mind that that's important. And so every time you visualize, it's kind of shifting that. The thing that I have found in my work is that there can be a ton of resistance and it can take a really long time for those tools on their own to work. In my method, that's actually the last step. It's almost like you're taking a toothpick to kind of chip away at a brick. It takes a very, very long time to make an indent. It can take months and years to make a true indent with those methods. When what we can do is we can use tools to turn the
Starting point is 00:12:56 mind into a fertile bed of soil. So let's say that I had a belief that money is difficult to make in my subconscious mind because my whole upbringing, I saw my parents struggling with money. So that's just an example. You can apply any example that you're experiencing now to this. What happens is that that creates resistance. So if I visualize myself with a lot of money or I do a bunch of affirmations about money, it's going to bounce out. It's going to be a lot harder because I have this resistant force that I'm dealing with. What we want to be. to do is we want to use tools that work at that deeper level. Hypnosis can work at that level. RRT is my favorite. I have my own elevated subconscious rewiring method that I think is the absolute
Starting point is 00:13:37 best for shifting and changing at that deep level. EFT tapping can do it as well. That's part of the tools that I use. But what I find is that when you can really shift and clear out that deeper level, then your visualization, then your affirmations, then the things that you want come so much more quickly. This is like the sprinkles on the cake. We want to actually shift and change what's happening within the cake. When we think about the subconscious mind, the first piece that affects what we manifest is our reticular activating system. But then we also have these other aspects that also are going to dictate what we will experience and create from our realities. Another one is the predictive coding engine. So the brain is constantly predicting what is going to happen.
Starting point is 00:14:23 next. So instead of like watching a scenario and deciding, okay, what's going to happen, the mind is like constantly trying to get ahead of it and say what's happening, what's going to happen, what's happening next. What happens with that, though, is we will misinterpret events and we will constantly see the same events over and over again because we're predicting them based off of our past. What's happening is our past is creating our present, which then is informing our future. And so we are constantly reliving the past, reliving the past. What we have to do is draw line in the sand and do this deeper rewiring work on the mind, then we can shift that predictive coding engine. So that way the mind will begin to predict different things. So the predictive
Starting point is 00:15:05 coding engine, it'll remember past experiences that are typically emotionally charged. So if somebody treated you poorly or if money behaved in a certain way or success felt unsafe, then those experiences, the mind is going to do a lot to protect you from. It also works in the positive way as well. So another way that the mind creates the reality is through the stored memory network. So every single emotional experience you've ever had gets stored in the mind. So these childhood experiences, emotional wounds, successes, failures, moments of shame and pride, these become the blueprint. And I refer to these as our subconscious blueprints.
Starting point is 00:15:46 The way I think about it is that we all have different blueprints for different areas of our life. So we have a money blueprint. We have a relationship blueprint. We have a career blueprint. We have how we view ourselves blueprint. And as I said, we will continue to recreate that experience. If you take a blueprint for a house, let's say your architects gives you a blueprint for your house and you give it to the builder, the builder isn't going to go rogue and build something else. He's going to build it to those exact specifications of that blueprint. The same is true for your mind. Your mind will keep recreating those financial blueprints, those relationship blueprints over and over and over again until you shift and change them. And that's why shifting and changing our mind at this deeper level
Starting point is 00:16:29 is honestly the only cheat code I've ever found for life. And it's not even really a cheat code. It's just learning how to work with our true nature. Another one that we will experience is habit circuitry. So we are wired for efficiency. Human beings are wired to not waste energy so that way we can survive. habits are stored in a deep part of our mind, and once habits are coded, they become autopilot. Most people don't notice is that a lot of our emotions are actually habitual. Tony Robbins refers to it as your emotional home. It's the home, the emotional space where you feel most comfortable and you feel most safe, safe.
Starting point is 00:17:07 And it's where you will return to over and over and over again, especially in times of stress. So let's say that you grew up in a home where there's a lot of chaos. you are going to feel unconsciously most comfortable, most familiar with chaos. So you'll return to chaos and you'll subconsciously do things to create more and more chaos in your life because that's familiar. If protecting yourself and keeping yourself safe and hiding was familiar and was your emotional home, that's where you'll go back to. Could be anger, could be jealousy, could be happiness. I really believe that now that I've done this work on myself and I've really rewired my mind, I feel like my emotional home actually is happiness, which I'm really, that might be one of my
Starting point is 00:17:49 greatest accomplishments. So the habit circuitry, what it's going to do is we will associate certain times of day, certain emotions, certain things in our reality with habits. And we will unconsciously play them out over and over and over again like a computer would. So let's say that for a month, every single morning when I was on vacation, I woke up and I scrolled. So then what will happen is I've created that habit of scrolling. And so I will continue to scroll in the morning. But the thing that we don't notice about these habits is that they're never in isolation. Habits create a cascade effect. And so that scrolling maybe makes me not feel as good. So then maybe I'm more reactive with my partner or I show up less consistently with my business.
Starting point is 00:18:36 So understanding these habitual habits that we create and that our mind is creating and using to create a reality, can be incredibly empowering. And one thing you can do with this is literally just study yourself like a little scientist. Write out what do you do every single day. And you will start to notice, wow, there's so many patterns and habits I'm running that are very unconscious. Because a lot of what we do is simply programming. And we want to become the creator of our reality and stop creating based off of programming. When we think about manifesting the reality that we want, I really think about it in very, very simple terms. I think about it of I need to get my subconscious mind on board with what I want. Then I will see the solutions. Then I will attract the opportunities and then I will attract the
Starting point is 00:19:25 experiences in order to create that. Because as we know, our mind is creating what we expect. So if I expect success, if I expect wealth, if I expect love, that's what I will create. So I hope that you loved this episode. It has been so great to be here with you today.
