Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome to the alignment with Jen podcast. I'm your host, Jen Ditsasey, and today we're going to be talking about 12 micro habits that you can start doing this summer in order to reinvent yourself by the fall. I did an episode like this last December and it was one of the most popular episodes at the time where it was in preparation for New Year's. But I always like to do like a mini New Year's in the summer. It's July right now when I'm recording this. It'll probably be August when I release it to just get set up. up for the rest of the year, right? Because we go into the holidays. We have all of this exciting stuff coming up and we want to feel like our best selves. Right. And so I have a lot of really cool
Starting point is 00:00:40 tools for you that you can really easily implement. And what I recommend is listen to this episode and then listen to it again and actually take some notes on what do you actually want to implement from this, right? What are some of the things that you want to do? So something that I'm going to be doing with what I'm teaching you in this episode is I'm starting to do a third. day challenge for myself where it's kind of like a mini 75 hard but like not like a more feminine version of that in order to just feel like my best self entering the fall I love setting myself up for each new season really powerfully so I'm doing it with a friend I highly recommend send this episode to a friend so you guys can do this together and I'm going to give you
Starting point is 00:01:22 some of these but you can come up with whatever you want right in order to really just feel like your best self because when you create this momentum, it goes into every area of your life. So the first habit for reinventing yourself is create an ideal avatar of yourself. So your subconscious mind needs clarity on where you want to go or it's not going to know. So what we want to do is, and you can do this in a couple of fun different ways. You can journal about it. You can make a Pinterest board if you're a more visual person. You can do it in a couple different ways, but what I want it to reflect is who do you want to be, right? And this can be your style, right? Your personal style is such an expression of your soul. It can be how you move through your day, right? What do you believe about yourself? Maybe you put
Starting point is 00:02:13 on there some affirmations about what you want to believe about yourself. But I recommend having at least a written paragraph of who do you want to be, right? How do you want to wake up in the morning? How do you want to feel? How do you want to spend your time? Who do you want to spend your time with? Right. Imagine that most ideal version of you and just kind of let it flow onto a piece of paper and just allow yourself to really create that ideal version of yourself. And what that's going to do is it's going to show your subconscious mind like, okay, cool, this is where we're going. This is our next level. It directs your arrow of attention. Right. I always think of our attention. as an arrow that we're pointing in oftentimes many directions, but if we want to create a change,
Starting point is 00:03:00 we've got to point that arrow in one direction. And that's what this ideal avatar is. So what you can do is take this and you can turn it into a Pinterest board like a visual board, or you can just have it written out, whatever you choose, but I recommend making it so you can see it every day. So make it the background on your phone, make it the background on your computer. You can print it out if you want to. you can make a little like ideal self vision board. That's super fun to do. And put on their emotions you want to feel, right? The images that you want to see in your life.
Starting point is 00:03:32 That's a really cool way to do this. Then what I want you to do with this is once you do it, create a becoming her playlist. So it can be like a five song playlist. It can be 10 songs. If you're a playlist, girly like make it big, whatever you want. But it's a playlist that you are going to play at different points throughout your day. So maybe you play it when you wake up. Maybe you play it when you're driving.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Maybe you play it in the evening when you're cooking dinner. But music is an extremely powerful anchor for our nervous system. Think about there's a song that you used to listen to in middle school. For me, it was like, I think it was good Charlotte. And every time I hear that song, I'm drawn back to middle school. So what you're doing is the opposite. You're picking these songs and you're going to play them consistently throughout this next month. and maybe you play it while you're reading your avatar, that could be a cool way to do it.
Starting point is 00:04:24 And you're going to anchor that new version of you into your life. But I don't want you to just listen to it all day long. I want you to listen to it in moments when you feel like you're really embodying that new version. Right. When you're getting ready for the day, when you're driving somewhere exciting, you're trying to make it so your mind associates these songs with that new version of you. Because what's going to happen is eventually when you hear those songs, you're going to start to embody the physiology of that new version of you, right? And for some of you, you're going to want to do a lot of songs.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Some of you all want to just do a few. What I know is I've been to a lot of Tony Robbins events and he plays the same songs at every single event. And every time I listen to those songs, I'm pulled back into that physiology that I developed at that his events, right? Which is empowered, strong, powerful, confident. Right. I feel those things when I listen to his songs.
Starting point is 00:05:16 So now I can listen to them before I do things that I find challenging. to get me into that physiology. That's what I want you to create with this, is I want you to get some songs that really pull you to being that new version of you. Second is upgrading your wardrobe. And this doesn't mean you need to go on a full new shopping spree. It literally could be going in your closet
Starting point is 00:05:38 and finding new outfit combinations that match this new version of you, right? Get resourceful with what you already have. Maybe it means investing in some different new items that feel really good for you. But I really believe that a huge part of the feminine is creating beauty. And we do that a lot through our physical expression, right? Through our hair, through our nails, through our makeup, through all of those sorts of things. Shifting your physical aesthetic. And this is actually the second and third point. And also your environment, your environment as well,
Starting point is 00:06:12 because those are extensions of us, right? They're extensions of our energetic field. They're extensions of our own internal beliefs. And when you enter a new level, a new identity, oftentimes we want to create a new expression in the physical world. That's what your wardrobe is. It's not about looking like a certain person. It's about expressing yourself, expressing your creativity. So what are some of the things that you want to express? Right. I'm doing this right now and I literally on my computer, I have like 10 tabs of little stores that I want to shop in online because I want to shift my physical aesthetic to match more of who I feel like I'm becoming, right? That's such a feminine thing to do to just create this physical expression. It's so, so, so, so, so fun. And you can create a Pinterest
Starting point is 00:07:00 board as well if you want to, right? Or you can go in your closet and just mix and match new things so that way you feel like this is exciting. This feels like fresh. This feels new. Same with your environment. So cleaning out your environment. I might have shared this story before on the podcast, but I had a client and we were doing a lot of like deep, deep worthiness work. And one day she comes into our session and she's like, you know what? I was like, what? And she's like, I just ordered a massive dumpster to be delivered to my house. And she's like, I'm going to clear out my entire house.
Starting point is 00:07:33 And she spent the next two weeks like clearing out her attic, clearing out her house. She's lived there for many years. And she just cleared out all of this stuff. And she's like, I've never been able to do that before. And she's like, but I feel like this new person. And I feel like I want my space to reflect. my new energy. And that's why we change our physical space. Right. Right now, my office in my home feels like not quite like how I wanted to feel. So I'm going to update it. I'm going to change it. I might get,
Starting point is 00:08:00 you know, some new things. And this can be very small. It can be literally you just buy yourself a new nice candle or a new, you know, blanket. Something, it can be really, really simple or it can simply be just clearing out the old, right? But allowing, this is why we do spring. cleaning because it creates this energetic space. When we get rid of things in the physical, Marie Kondo talks about this in her book, the tidying up book, about how the things that we have hold energy. And so when we get rid of old things or things that we don't absolutely love, we create more alignment. I don't think she says it like that, but that's how my brain read it, right? But we create more alignment when we let go of the old things that no longer fit for us.
Starting point is 00:08:46 then another extension of this is something called scent anchoring. So when you are doing things, this is a lot of anchoring. This is a lot of using neuroscience essentially to become this new version of you. Scent anchoring. So this is something where you pick a signature scent that you have. It could be something that you already have or it could be you could buy yourself a new scent. It can be a perfume. It can be an essential oil, whatever you want it to be. Or it can literally be something that you just smell if you don't want to wear perfume. Scent is one of the strongest senses tied to memory. It's very, very strongly tied to memory. And so you're going to smell this scent or wear this scent when you are being that version of you. So say you want to start creating content and you haven't been doing it. You're going to
Starting point is 00:09:33 spray this scent on you when you're doing that. It's almost like this little micro reward. And what you're doing is you're creating this anchor to pull you back to that version of you. when you do things you feel proud of, when you do things that mirror this version of you that you want to be. The fifth is starting to take breaks every 90 minutes. So our brain naturally goes into trance state, into the alpha brainwave state every 90 minutes. And so when we push ourselves to work for three hours or even two hours instead of taking breaks every 90 minutes, what's happening is we are less productive, but we also are basically putting off our brains need to go into that state. And so this can create those afternoon slumps.
Starting point is 00:10:20 So what you want to do is just every 90 minutes, take 15 minute break, go for a walk, go, you know, do a little meditation, do something that just allows your brain to not do anything. Don't go and listen to another podcast because that's keeping your brain more in beta, but allow your brain to just be. And what that's going to do is it's going to allow you to be more productive, more creative, more focused, have more energy. It's a really, really powerful thing to do. So that is the fifth one. The sixth one is when you're getting ready in the morning, as you're looking in the mirror, there can be a tendency I know for people to be very judgmental
Starting point is 00:11:00 of themselves. You know, oh, I should look like this. I should do this differently. My hair doesn't look that good. And something I have started doing is I've started two things. whenever I'm doing my hair, I always say to myself, I'm going to have a really good hair day today. I'm going to have a really good hair day today. And then I have shockingly way better hair days. But I also will always just say, I am beautiful inside and out. And I'll just repeat that to myself as I'm getting ready. And what's wild is you start to notice all of these things that you feel beautiful about rather than noticing all the things that you want to fix. I think with social media and the day and age that we're in, it's so easy to notice every. we want to fix. So what you're doing is you're giving your mind a focus, focusing on beauty, focusing on noticing your own beauty, you're going to get a very different result. If you only do this one, you're going to feel like significantly better. And people are going to start reflecting that back to you. Right. When you feel beautiful, people tell you you're beautiful. It's the wildest thing. And when you don't feel beautiful, people don't tell you you're beautiful as
Starting point is 00:12:07 much. It is so wild. The next one is something called the Freedom app. So this is an app that allows you to block other apps on your phone. I love this app. And what it does is it basically allows you to choose which apps you want to block and then set a time of when they're blocked. And it's really, really cool because you, what I recommend doing is blocking social media in the morning and blocking social media at night. This is going to keep your subconscious mind a lot healthier because you're not during those times, your brain is more open to suggestion. And so you're going to prevent yourself from just letting in willy-nilly whatever is on social media. Okay. So I highly recommend the freedom app. Just search like freedom focus app and it will come up for you. It's really, really amazing.
Starting point is 00:12:58 You can also take this to another level and have one day a week, either Saturday or Sunday is a good day to where you block all of your social media apps and you just don't let yourself go on social media for a day. Your mental health will improve after just one day of doing that. It is so powerful. Block your email, right? I block everything in the morning and everything at night and it really, really, really helps me. And I took the app off my phone for a little while because I was like, oh, I don't need this. I do need it. It really helps me. It's so easy, even if you have the best intentions to kind of slip into scrolling or slip into checking your email. And it creates space. It creates mental space. And it might be hard at first if you're addicted, but it will get easier,
Starting point is 00:13:41 I promise. Then the eighth one is taking special care of the first 30 minutes of your day. So the first 30 minutes of your day, as I said, is when your subconscious mind is more suggestible. It's more open to being programmed. So you can use. this time, it's also an amazing time to really deepen your spiritual connection. So what I recommend, even if it's the first 10 minutes, is just either meditation or prayer or having a conversation with the universe, but setting your focus for the day, right, setting your intention. Because when you have that prayer or that conversation, you're also communicating with your subconscious. And it is going to help you direct your day. Right. I've talked before about how your subconscious needs a
Starting point is 00:14:29 direction, right? It needs you to point your arrow in a certain direction. And what you're doing when you start your day like that is you're helping it point its arrow in a certain direction. So it knows what you want from that day. Right. It wants to serve you. That's the craziest thing is your subconscious actually wants to do whatever you want it to do. It literally loves that. It just needs guidance. Right. So give it guidance every day. You know, I thank you so much for helping me feel so confident today, feel so powerful, feel so focused to create an amazing podcast episode for my audience, right? Those kinds of things. Same thing in the evening. So this is the ninth one. This is another one that I recommend is having a little audio that you listen to each evening and it make it about
Starting point is 00:15:14 five or seven minutes. And you can make it a hypnosis style audio if you know how to do that. Or you can just make it a series of positive affirmations or positive suggestions for yourself. And you're going listen to this as you fall asleep. And it can be very, very, very short, but you're going to make these positive suggestions. And as you do that, each day, you're going to notice that you're starting to implement those suggestions more. So you want to keep them pretty simple, pretty general. So things like every day when I wake up, I feel focused and energized for the day. Right? Every day when I go to sleep, I sleep so soundly and my body heals. A good book you can look at at to help you with this as well is the power of the subconscious mind. He has a lot of really good
Starting point is 00:16:00 little prayers written out. But listening to something like that is going to give you higher energy levels. It's going to help you focus better because you're giving your subconscious mind that direction on what to do. Number 10 is clean up your inputs. So what I mean by that is clean up your social media feed, right? Stop clicking on or following content that doesn't make you feel good. Right. Get your feed filled with puppies and positive affirmations and, you know, funny stories or things like that. For a while, I started following someone on social media who tells these really, really good true crime stories. So not something that I should have done, something that I actively shouldn't have done. But I got into it, right? It caught me. And I noticed I would watch it like in the
Starting point is 00:16:49 evening and then I would, you know, go do my thing and I'd go to sleep and I would have scarier dreams. I'd just sleep less well. I wouldn't, I wouldn't feel as good. So social media can impact you when you're sleeping or when you're waking, even if you're not watching it right before you go to bed, right? It's still impacting your subconscious. So cleaning up those inputs. What TV shows are you watching?
Starting point is 00:17:12 Are you watching TV shows where people are judging one another a lot? Like a lot of the reality TV shows where it's like all of this gossip, that's not healthy for your subconscious. Your subconscious thinks everything's about it. It thinks everything is about you. So when it's watching gossip, when it's watching these things, it's going to cause you to gossip more. And it's also going to apply those negative things to you. So you want to just keep your inputs very clean, right?
Starting point is 00:17:39 The people that you're talking to, the people that you're hanging out with, notice if you feel drained when you spend time with someone, why might that be? Right. Why might that be? The environments that you put yourself in, clean up these things to align with the person that you want to be. be right you're constantly being programmed so choose the inputs in which that are coming into your mind right jim ron always said stand guard at the door of your mind that's what you're doing when you're cleaning up your inputs the next one is getting more movement in every single day so movement is great right for your physical body we know that we know it moves our lymph we know it improves our heart health our muscles
Starting point is 00:18:21 it's amazing for all of those reasons. And it's also amazing for moving stuck and stagnant energy in our body. So I'm sure you've heard of the chakra system, right? They're energy centers within our body. And science can actually show them now. They can see that there's nerves in those areas and additional blood flow. And it's pretty interesting stuff that science is finally catching up with what spirituality has known for thousands of years. But what happens when you move is you actually move your chakra.
Starting point is 00:18:51 as well. And when you do squats, like you're compressing and expanding your chakras. So you're, especially your root chakra. And what's happening is you're allowing old energy to exit and new energy to come in. Think of like ringing out a sponge. So this is why when you're feeling kind of crummy and you go on a walk, yes, it's improving, you know, the blood flow in your brain. And they do brain scans and it shows that after you walk, like your brain shows a closer imprint to being happy than before, right? Your neurochemicals reflect that. But the same is true for your chakras, right? You're able to move energy more. Think about someone who's really depressed, right? You don't have to think of someone specific, but think about like the physiology of that, what they're doing with their time.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Usually they're like curled up on the couch, curled up in bed. That's probably the image that you got. and they're not moving their energy, right? The more that we move our energy, the better that we're going to feel. So this could be little walks you do throughout the day. This could be adding more workouts to your week, be adding in a new type of workout that gets you excited to move in a new way. So just adding in more movement.
Starting point is 00:20:00 These are all so insanely simple, so insanely simple. Then the last one that I want you to do is an energy audit. So you can do this for a couple of days, like two or three days. And what you're going to do is you're going to make a note on your phone and you're going to write what you do throughout the day. So you're going to write, woke up, you know, meditated, ate breakfast, those sorts of things. But I also want you to put how you felt afterward, felt better, felt more focused, felt happy, felt, felt, felt, felt, felt, felt, right? What you're doing is you're noticing what things do I do that give me energy and what things do I do that don't give me energy. And the more detailed you are with this, the more that you're going to be able to be able to,
Starting point is 00:20:42 to unlock really subtle things that you're doing that are negatively impacting your energy. Okay. So it could be really small things. I started to notice that there were certain projects that I was working on within my business that every time I'd work on them, I like felt like not good afterward. Right. And I want my business to feel really good. That's important for me.
Starting point is 00:21:02 That's a value for me. So I stopped doing those things. Right. And surprisingly, not really surprisingly, my business did better, right? Because I wasn't siphoning my business did better. wasn't siphoning my energy to things that didn't feel good. Or you can change your perspective around it. But that's the last thing that I want you to think about doing. There's so many other micro habits that you can do. But what I recommend for the 30 day challenge is pick some of these habits and then add in
Starting point is 00:21:27 other habits of what you want to cultivate for yourself, create a little tracker for yourself, get a friend, and you're going to feel so, so, so good in 30 days. So I hope that you loved this. If you are interested in working with me and connecting over coaching, you can send me the word podcast on Instagram and we'll dive deeper into all of my programs and we can chat about what might be right for you. All right, I will see you in the next episode.
