Episode Date: May 30, 2023

Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIt’s been just over a year since Kendrick Lamar and his cousin Baby Keem last joined each other on a track. Their Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers deep cut “Sa...vior” was a weighted examination of idol worship, but their latest single, “The Hillbillies,” is the product of both rappers being in a silly, goofy mood, as evidenced in its accompanying Neal Farmer-directed video."The Hillbillies" Produced by EVILGIANEDirected by Neal Farmer / pgLangfull video: (16) Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar - The Hillbillies - YouTubePrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Starting point is 00:00:00 All I can think about while watching this Kendrick Lamar and Baby King video titled The Hillbillies was the SquarePants movie where Patrick and SpongeBob kept yelling for milkshakes at the Goofy Goober because this video and song is completely unsirious. I think this may go down as one of the most unsurious hip-hop music videos of all time. I mean, coming off of family ties, coming off of Range Brothers, coming off for Savior, you would have thought we was going to get the summer anthem for 2023. But no, it's just Kendrick and Baby Keen living their best life. And let me tell you, I'm all for it because at this point, when you think about hip hop and where it came from,
Starting point is 00:00:48 it was so serious to a point where it was hard to laugh at yourself because of the overall perspective that you had to keep of you being a quote-unquote gangster. But at this point, now that we had Mr. West come in and showed it was cool to be a nerd and a hip hop artist at the same time. Also, we have Drake showing us what it's like to have a plethora of zesty moments. We have finally come to the realization that hip hop artists don't need to be gangster 24-7 to give us quality music. So now, with the Baby Kim and Kendrick Lamar, which is his, if you don't know, Baby Kim is Kendra. is Kendrick Lamar's cousin. So that should probably clear things up on why
Starting point is 00:01:33 Kendrick Lamar is making so many tracks with Baby Kim. It's not just because he thought he was the most talented artists of all time. Even though Baby Kim is pretty talented, we have to acknowledge the fact that he's obviously blood related to Kendrick Lamar. Shout out to Offset throwing that whole mantra out the window. But anyways, I'm going to talk about that another time. On top of this being one of the most unsurious music. videos of all time maybe in the hip-hop genre. I think that the collaboration between Kendrick Lamar
Starting point is 00:02:03 and Baby Kim is very strategic to the point. This man, Kendrick Lamar, went on a three-year hiatus simply for the fact that TD would not let him off the label. So at this point, now that he completed his contract with Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, obviously he's going to be putting out more music, which we get here with attached with a new up-and-coming artist Baby King, which is also Kendrick Lamar's cousin. Now, that's a lot to handle. Just know it gets even deeper because PG-Lang was a whole new label created by Kendrick Lamar. Of course, it's still under a major label, but the subsidiary is PG-Lang. It's kind of like when young money was under cash money and cash money was under, well, the major label that's under changes all the time, but currently
Starting point is 00:02:49 it was under UMG. So with TDE and Kendrick, they've severed ties, no pun intended, but because of the family ties he has with Baby Kim, they've came out with so many different tracks that have reached the heights, the highs of the highs on Billboard, which you had family ties reaching number 11 on Billboard top 100, and then you have Range Brothers, which reached number 32 on Billboard top 100.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Then you had Vint, which reached 68 on the top 100. And then you had Savior, which is on Kendrick Kumar's last album that completed his TDE. contract, which it was called Savior. Oh, I already said that. But basically, I think Savior was my favorite track off of that album. And in general, I think when we're looking at it in a totality standpoint, this song would probably end up on Baby Keem's album rather than Kendrick's or it may not end up on it at all. Because it really does seem like a throwaway track. And from what Baby
Starting point is 00:03:49 King and Kendrick Lamar has been giving us, I think that's a little surprise as we was probably hoping for our family's ties part two. I mean, it's about that time. but I guess for Range brothers that kind of satisfied that craving for most fans. I think Kendrick Lamar fans right now are at an interesting crossroads because do they want to support Baby Kim or are they going to get to the point where they're like, okay, we understand this man is your blood cousin, but we want more solo Kendrick music. I mean, you did go away for three years and at the end of the day, who can rap like Kendrick Lamar in the modern hip-hop?
Starting point is 00:04:24 When I do think of Kendrick Lamar, I hold him in the highest regards. Even though I'm a Drake stand, y'all do know, I consistently say, I think Kendrick Lamar is by far the best lyricist to ever grace for Mike. I even have him up there in my top three of all time, of course, Jay Z, Kendrick, and Biggie. But when I do think of the overall music making ability and the consistency, of course, I have to put my boy Aubrey Graham back in there. But at the end of day, we're talking about lyricism, and Kendrick is filled with it. Apparently Kendrick writes for Baby Keem, so he's filled with it. But the biggest thing with this hillbillies is that you need to go into it with the open mindset, just looking to have fun because that's simply what this video is.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Just a whole bunch of uns seriousness and fun activities. So click my link to you in my bio. Let me know in one of my social medias. What do you think about Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem dropping? another collab only on YouTube right now. That's why I wanted to cover it, because in general, I don't know how many people know us out. But the Kendrick Lamar Baby Kim music video titled The Hillbillies,
Starting point is 00:05:35 Have you watched it? If you haven't, will you be watching it? And if you have, what was your favorite part of the video?
