Starting point is 00:00:03 Now, it's time to get into Big Sean because one of my favorite artists of all time when it comes to rapping is Big Sean. And unequivocally, one of the best lyricists we've ever seen in life. And I'm talking about all time. So with that being considered, being able to rap does not mean that the songmaking is going to always be at that same level. So that is the predicament that I found myself in when listening to this better me than you album that's out now on all. DSPs. And if you don't know, the album feature artists like Gunna, Kodak Black, Tiana Taylor, Larry June, DJ Premier, Charlie Wilson, my favorite, Bryson Tiller. So with that being considered, he also has a appearance, a random appearance from Duane to Rock Johnson, basically calling, congratulating him on his baby boy. So that was interesting. uh it was just out of the blue i was like what in the world like is that is that duane no so um yeah the album in totality is about an hour and six minutes now i don't know about y'all but the way that big
Starting point is 00:01:20 sean wraps he makes it seem like it's not an hour in six minutes right because the way he puts words together is such at a high level that he's really not repeating too many of the words that he's using because he's a wordsmith in the lyricist that's what the term means so um the songmaking ability is where i have a problem with like i never thought i'd see the day where i compared one of my that used to be my favorite rapper to the likes of jermaine cold because the amount of audio nightquil that's throughout this album makes me feel like this album should have been titled bedtime stories because so many positive affirmations and just how to get better in life and how he's evolved as a man and while that's all great my brother when you're hip hop i need some bangers now
Starting point is 00:02:08 i don't know if it's ignorant but at some point at some time five 10 20 minutes of just straight bangers like it's just so much about how you evolved as a man like put it in you like put it in your book like like like as far as music we're not trying to hear all that it's a reason why people clown jz 4-4 even though the overall message is phenomenal and in music form and hip hop form we're not trying to hear that write your book and we'll buy that but as far as the music side we're trying to turn up to certain songs we're trying to get deep on certain songs which the whole album is just deep so now on a replayable aspect no wonder all your singles aren't even on the charts when it comes to the top 100 and big shot's a legacy act
Starting point is 00:02:57 so the charts isn't something i like to bring up but since i'm getting into the album i'm have to so this man put out not one not two not three this man put out about four singles before the album came out so there was precision there was uh yes on up okay so was it three i swear he put out another track maybe it didn't maybe he left that off oh shut up with somebody else's track okay so that doesn't count oh no then it was a together forever okay so that must have not even been on the album let me see together forever oh no it is on the album so he put out four singles before the album none of those were on the charts or even had any type of steam as far as pushing the album um to be fair when he put out precision which was his first attempt at a single to promote the album the greatest hip-hop beef of all time
Starting point is 00:04:01 popped off. So it's not really his fault. Nobody would would have been able to withstand the publicity of that and, and trying to garner some of that attention on their own project. Nobody would have been able to combat that. So yes, well, the track yes, not to get it confused. I think should have had some type of steam. And because it didn't, I'm not the whole. It's, so it's very a hard whenever you have certain favorites as far as in a rap game but i'm just predicting on you know objective scale that this man is probably not going to sell well now what does not sell well mean for bichon because he's still selling better than every other artist because he still is a legacy act meaning he has a certain fan base that's going to forever rock with him so i would say 80 000 to 90
Starting point is 00:04:56 thousand first week i think there's a reason why he's popping up with rdc world he's popping up with charlemagne uh he's tapping in on everything drake post um every time drake even mentions big shan i mean big shan's mocking his facial expressions i mean he's posting his uh his hundred gigs documentary i mean he's doing everything he can to attach himself to certain marketing promotions which is nothing wrong with that it just showcases you're actually putting effort as far as the uh as far as marketing goes i think he's doing that for a reason i think he knows that there's a reason why all these appearances are happening detroit two sold a hundred and three thousand first week and and went number one big shan's getting nowhere near a number one but that's okay
Starting point is 00:05:45 that's okay that the reason why i'm just saying that is to be objective the quality level does not mean that somebody's going to stream your album more or your song more. People say put out good music and it will sell itself. That's not true. You need a machine. And what most of these people don't even tell you, they had a person to open the door for them to even put that out. Like usually success is when preparation meets opportunity. A lot of people prepare all their life. And sometimes, hey, they just don't get the opportunity. You know what I mean? So it's not it's not something to just hang your head on uh to to be down about or to be upset about it's just to realize that maybe you have to create your own opportunity that may not be as big as
Starting point is 00:06:34 getting on a major label but now maybe you got your own underground thing that's still uh just as fulfilling so i say all that to say this big sean is under deaf jam recordings a division of UMG recordings. Having a machine behind you and also your legacy act, uh, fan base coming back to listen to this new project, I think you would sell around 80 to 90,000. I'm being very optimistic with that number.
Starting point is 00:07:05 So yeah, I think it's looking spooky for Big Sean. I think there was a reason why he was crying, uh, before his album came out basically, you know, garnering a lot of sympathy because I think he knows like, that meant everything he can or could and a lot of things went against them and now he's looking at it like man
Starting point is 00:07:26 i don't know if he's thinking like oh should i just retire but it's just like if people aren't listening to your music then you just get to a point where it's like if nobody's listening to your music on that global scale because don't forget people compare big sean to the big three i don't think we'll ever be talking about germane and kendrick or drake anytime soon selling under under a hundred thousand so with that being said you know hopefully big Sean bouts is back from this no pun intended but i think honestly it's not looking good and um just him putting out a NyQuil project is is why i'm harping on the fact that if you wanted to sell because high quality doesn't mean high sales and high sales doesn't mean high quality so if he doesn't want to sell if he just wants to
Starting point is 00:08:17 put out a good body of work then um i guess the devise the verdict still up in the air for that one so click my link to your my bio let me know one of my social media is what do y'all think about big sean's latest album better me than you and what is your favorite track if you have one from the album
