It's time to get into my favorite musician before he left me, unfortunately, in my high school years.
Now, Big Sean is back again with this new track titled Precision, which is very interesting because it precisely missed the mark.
I'm not going to lie to you. It hurts my heart to say this.
But I think the biggest thing when it comes to Big Sean is his lyrical ability in trying to transform that.
into a replayable track for the masses because some people listen to his lyrics and be like,
oh, he's definitely one of the best rappers that came into the game for the past decade plus.
But on the other hand, that gets in his way because when he tries to make a hit
and it seems obvious more obvious than ever that he's trying to make a hit with precision,
which you're like, well, isn't that what every musician is trying to do?
some ways to go about making a hit is more authentic than others and I think off of this album
this is going to be the more egregious attempt at just making a straight hit now is that a
problem yes because as a big Sean fan I know he has it in him to make the lyricists
combined with the replayability and not make it sound force because he's under UMG
which if you don't know, Big Sean put this out under Def Jam Entertainment, which is a division of UMG recordings.
Ladies and gentlemen, Universal Music Group has the largest share of the global music market accounting for 31.9% of both physical and digital revenues.
Out of all the music in the world, UMG has the biggest with 31.9% percent.
when it comes to global music market share.
So I say that to say, I think the people, whoever was funding or whoever was in the room for this album,
chose to tell him to make a track that they could put out on different platforms so that they could
promote him more, which is nothing wrong with that.
If that's the marketing strategy they took, it's just as far as me organically as a big Sean fan,
I don't like it.
So I know this is going to be the track that they play whenever Luca Donkich is hitting a step back, or whenever Anthony Edwards is trying to dunk on another seven-footer, or when LeBron James is on the sideline flirting with the owner of his team.
You know what I mean?
It's just whenever something sports-related is happening, I know they're going to try to push this track to the umpteenth degree.
So that is why I started this out by saying that his lyrical ability should.
shine through the music but instead the major label I think got in control of what his
single was because if you don't know artists talk about how all the time when they're coming out
with the single they have to run it by certain people and sometimes because of you know if a
person's funding you usually nine times at 10 they're going to have say into into how that product
is put out like if I'm funding you I want my return on investment so that means I'll probably
would have some type of say in what you're doing. So I think they told him to put this out as the
single simply for the fact that the NBA playoffs is coming up. I promise you. I promise you you're
going to hear this on any sports game. Like the little highlight tape they play before each and
every game, you're going to hear precision. And I think they think they're going to, that's going to
drive sales for his inevitable album release. So what I'm going to say,
say is that I would go to Big Sean's Instagram and go to his let me see go to his second post yeah his second post where he talked about getting over food poisoning and he was like quote
figured if Jordan can play in the finals with food poisoning least I can do is drop some bars we let him more fly tomorrow I would go listen to that and I think that's a better
indication of how the album's going to sound.
That is him in his bag while also giving something that's replayable.
You can't tell me listening to that,
or listening to that,
that Big Sean is not one of the best rappers in the past decade plus.
Because the bars that he was giving,
the way that he was delivering it,
the double time flow towards the end of his freestyle,
switching it up while also giving lyrical,
a lyrical performance is way harder than most people give credit to and that is why most people
just um settle for trying to rap like certain music i'm not going to try to you know discredit any other
musicians but they try to sound like certain other musicians because it's easier easier to replicate
their flow before big shan to showcase why he's lyrically superior and then to come out with this
the formulaic trying to be on every ESPN highlight type of track, I think is unfortunate.
So while I don't think this is an indication of how the album quality is going to be overall,
it's definitely a misstep, a misstep for me as a big Sean fan.
But as far as the masses, if what they're doing actually pans out, I think it will work.
But because these type of tracks usually are just made for like a 2K playlist, I don't think authentically is going to end up being the one that pushes his album over the top.
So hopefully his next single is more bars and him getting like the track.
So whenever he gets into his self-reflection with his lyrics, I don't want a track like Zen.
like whatever the zen the what out like that track has to go like never make a song like that again
but as far as that topic matter i would like it but just over a more modern type of a beat let's just say
that well not even modern beat because the beat wasn't just the chorus was bad so i would say
lyrically you have to showcase what you did in this instagram video right here which if you don't
see it uh analytic dreams video version on uh spotify
for the video along with the audio anyways lyrically i need this but it needs to be in a self-reflection
type of way exactly how you had in this freestyle so really he should just put this freestyle out
i don't know why he didn't like it's still now it's still not out on dsps and he literally gave like
a timestamp at the beginning so i think he's just naming that for the album you know i think
he tried to replicate what drake did with the um forget what the track was called
it was off for all the dogs and it's when Drake was with his son and basically he put it at the end of his album I think it was 8 a.m. in Charlotte I think it was 8 a.m. in Charlotte. I think he was trying to replicate that the 8 a.m. in Charlotte which is something he can easily replicate because he's a lyricist and everybody has a clock on the wall. So I'm glad that he did that because, well, I'm not going to say it's easily replicated. It's easily replic. No, that's not. It's easy. No, that's not. It's easy. It's easy. It's easy.
actually, yeah, that's not the way to frame it.
Big Sean can easily replicate that, but not any other artists.
Well, there's a couple.
But we're going to get to those couple in a second.
So Big Sean, I'm glad that he had his lyricism on display on his Instagram,
but as far as his DSP, it seems like he put out a formulaic track that UMG told him to do.
And that is my ultimate review of that track.
I listened to it.
obviously it's not terrible i mean it's big shan like come on now but as far as what i'm wanting
i need a little bit more authenticity in the way he's going about putting together these uh
these quote-unquote hits so anyways um the biggest thing you didn't know is that big sean
is in his new era on social media emphasizing clarity as a common theme um some of the other things
is big shan is embracing fatherhood of course if you don't know
I mean, the world knows at this point.
But, you know, him and Janae Aiko, you know, one of the greatest couples in the world currently have given birth to their first child.
And back in 2022, so he's back again, being active in the music scene, contributing to various projects and collaborations, including the Cree 3 soundtrack, which is phenomenal, by the way.
Stuff like that.
Like that, it's lyrical, but also it's a replayable track.
So I need that type of stuff on his new album, which I undoubtedly think he's going to have.
But it's just the fact that I think this was a heavy-handed approach at a hit, I would say.
And I think it was constructed by the label.
I'm blaming the label because I can't possibly blame Big Sean or else.
You know, that would just lead to me or to y'all thinking that I think the album's going to end up being subpart, which is just not it.
After listening to his freestyle and his Instagram, listening to a bunch of snippets put out on the internet, as far as when he's,
was performing at i forget what event it was but he was performing and showed a little snippet that
track um actually i think that was precision but it was like a it was like a short snippet i didn't know
that'll be the whole track like the whole track is just pew pew pew pew pew pew i'm like bro like this
is obviously a temp at a at a sports uh highlight clip you know this is like the like the soundtrack
to every NBA B role ever uh ever to exist so anyways
Big Sean, Jermaine, Kendrick, Drake, all being active in 2024,
just lets you know that this year already is far beyond in quality than last year.
And that, as a hip-hop fan, is a great sight to see.
So with that being said, click my link tree in my bio.
Let me know one of my social medias.
Do you feel the same way I do by Big Sean's precision?
And also, if you do like to track, what is your favorite part about Big Shahn?
Sean's new single titled Precision.
