Starting point is 00:00:00 For being the most popular artists in the Afrobeat genre is saying something because the takeover of the Afrobeats is here. In 2022, Afrobeat albums generated over $1 billion in global revenue up from $500 million in 2021. Also, Afrobeats is the fastest growing genre in music in the world and is now one of the top five genres in terms of global revenue. In terms of streaming, Afrobeats has been streamed over 10 billion times in 2022, up from $5 billion in 2021. And also, I keep saying also, but y'all get what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:00:47 Afrobees is the fourth most streamed genre of music in the world behind only pop, hip hop, and rock. Compared to other genres, Afrobees has a much, has seen a much higher growth rate in the recent years. 2021, 2021, 2022, Afrobees revenue in those respective years grew by 100% while pop revenue grew by 20% and hip hop revenue grew about 30%.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Bringing this full circle to the fact that Afrobees is currently the fastest growing genre and music in the world. And it is expected that Afrobees will continue to grow in popularity and years to come because I believe when you're from a certain country and you already have a humongous fan base and you come to America that already proves as an advantage if you can pull it off. The only disadvantage is I believe is very difficult to pull that off.
Starting point is 00:01:57 We have Drake. we have Tim's we even have I'm trying to think we have BTS and those are from three different countries I believe so yeah that that's basically
Starting point is 00:02:13 what I'm trying to get at as you have a home fan base in your country come over to America and if you blow up in America sky's the limit and as you've seen with Drake BTS you can end up running the charts simply for that fact that now, I mean, of course, music is worldwide and you need America for certain platforms
Starting point is 00:02:34 and outlets that gives it out to the masses and gives you more exposure. But the unique advantage with these overseas artists is that they have two different home bases, quote unquote, instead of American artists where they just have one. Obviously, you can grow out, you can like go tour overseas, but you would never be accepted. You would never be accepted like one of their own, and that's kind of what I'm trying to get at. As Afrobeats started in Africa, of course, I mean, hopefully that's not like a fact that's like blowing your mind right now. But it's also gaining popularity in other parts in the world besides America, and it's likely to become the most popular genre in the world if this trend keeps up. Now, why am I saying all this?
Starting point is 00:03:27 Simply for the fact that Burnaboy is back once again being the figurehead of Afrobeats, as he is the most popular artist. Some people may argue that as Tim's or WizKid, currently I do believe Burn a boy has put in so much legwork and groundwork. I remember when he even received a Grammy for Best New Artist, and I was like, that should have definitely went to Dave. I remember Dave was on that list and I said it should have went to Dave. In hindsight, it wasn't the best pick, but personally, I still believe that Dave is one of the more promising prospects when it comes to up-and-coming artists. And he's in the UK field. He just put out that track with Central C is literally titled UK rap. But focusing on Afro beats.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Burn the Boy is back again with his new Big Seven single. accompanied with a music video and he's announcing his new album titled i told them now i told them could be a direct shot to everybody who didn't believe in them or i told them could be just affirmation of his manifest manifestation manifestation i think that's a manisphistation i think that's a manistration i think it's like you say it pretty sure that's how you say it anyway Him manifesting, manifesting, I think I'm saying that right. Correct me if I'm not, but anyways, him manifesting his popularity is kind of like the, oh, I was right, and also I told you.
Starting point is 00:05:09 So it could be taken either way. But anyways, obviously he's expressing gratitude for his journey in this track title, Big Seven. And, you know, with Virgil passing away, you know, rest of peace of Virgil, they're always saying, and um rest in piece of virgil and of course the music video is shot in new york city it features a lot of uh artists like uh riza buster rhymes junior mafia buster rams is probably the most out of the ordinary cameo i seen in that music video i was like what is buster rams doing but hey teach his own this will be burner boy's seventh studio album so like i said he's putting in
Starting point is 00:05:54 the legwork for quite some time and with this single titled The Big Seven, it definitely leads up to the rollout of his new album titled, I told them. So what else? So this is coming out October 25th, August 25th. Yeah, my fault.
Starting point is 00:06:21 So this is, I was trying to count. This is coming out August 25th. So, what else? Yeah, it's basically the main reason why I brought up all those Afrobeast stats because with Burnaboy spearheading the movement, I believe it's only right that we just talk about how Afrobeats has just grown in popularity in 2023. And the sales and the overall reception from American consumers and listeners has been beyond positive.
Starting point is 00:06:54 And even Americans are starting to acknowledge the fact that Afrobeast is taking over the U.S. I mean, it's seen over a 40% increase in streams year over year. Granted, it is the fastest growing genre. So you would add that to the fact that it's growing 40% year over year. So we would have to see if it ends up topping our likes of a pop or likes of hip hop. Because remember, hip hop is still the most popular genre for the past five to 10 years, maybe even longer than that. And obviously this year probably doesn't, numbers-wise, doesn't really hit that fact home because you see artists like Morgan Wallin and Taylor Swift running the charts. But now that Travis Scott has dropped the Utopia, now that Drake is probably going to drop for all the dogs, and you already seen what happened with a little Uzi-Vurt when he dropped pink tape, all of those albums will probably end up being number one.
Starting point is 00:07:56 as I saw somewhere where Taylor Swift literally changed the head the header to her Twitter account to back to midnights it was it was I forget it was called
Starting point is 00:08:11 her current album it was that was her header and she changed it back to midnights I don't know if she's acknowledging that that album flop which I don't even think it's a flop I looked at the numbers and went from like around 5 to 600,000 first week
Starting point is 00:08:26 to 200 some first week to like 175 first week. So I don't know if she don't like, I don't know if she doesn't like to drop off because compared to Midnights, I'm pretty sure that had a bigger hold as far as in the 200 range than this current album is performing. So I don't know if Taylor Swift is upset about that,
Starting point is 00:08:45 even though that she's doing crazy numbers on tour. So I don't think she's too upset. I think she's just focusing on the fact that Midnight Suns, Midnight Suns, that's an actual video game. Midnights is an actual video game. album is just performed leaps and bounds ahead of the current album that she just put out not too long ago so like I said when the album came out from Taylor Swift I thought she was going to run the charts for
Starting point is 00:09:09 at least two months because I was projecting another midnight's type of run where she was having a strong hold in that two to three hundred uh weak sales but I don't think she I don't think that's that's even a possibility at this point I mean it's dropping below 175,000 first week, which is still phenomenal. But for Taylor Swift, you know, it's just compared to herself, it's not the, it's not better than her last rollout or her last run in terms of sales. So anyways, when Burnaboy puts out this album, I believe he's definitely, I don't think, I don't know if he's going to run the charts, but I do believe that he would have a pretty
Starting point is 00:09:50 strong showing. As over time, if I had to look at Burner Boy's first week sales, I don't really, remember what he sold so I had to look it up okay so basically I'm trying to make this clear for y'all trying to find this so burn a boy first week sales over well throughout his career I think that's why I messed up kind of a lot of people are probably like well he if he's if he's the figurehead of Afrobeast then what is he selling and what would you project he sells with this album so I think I think that'll probably be the question that pops up Ah, okay. So basically, burn the board doesn't sell great in the U.S., but of course, with Afrobeats, that carries it. And the genre in general, he sells way more in Africa than he does in the United States. Because if you think about it, the billboard is the U.S. charts. So we would have to look at, let's see, in Africa. I don't know if it has the Africa numbers. Because right now, okay, so y'all probably wonder. So it's showing $25,000 for his last album first week. But that's just
Starting point is 00:11:23 counting U.S. sales. So let's see if we can find in Africa. And that's like his high, well, no, his highest was his first album in 2013 titled Life, which that was 40,000 first week. So let's see what he sells in Africa. I don't know if they have those numbers. I don't think they do. I'll be surprised if they actually do have those numbers. I'm trying to see. Ah, okay, here we go. Wow. Okay. So in general, we have Burn the Boy. wow so I'm trying to put it in perspective I didn't I didn't want to go this long but I do want to kind of inform the audience because I don't think they know how much this man is actually selling this is actually insane so on last year for his album love demeaning or however that's called
Starting point is 00:12:28 this man sold 300,000 first week in Africa then he sold 200,000 first week in 2020 in Africa and then he saw 150,000 first week in 2020 in Africa and then he saw 150,000 first week in Africa and then he sold 150,000 first week in 2019 in Africa of course I keep saying Africa because people gonna look at the US first weekend it'd be like oh he only sold 25,000 like in Africa this man is running up numbers and of course life just like in US that sold 40,000 Africa sold around 40,000 as well and it just went up from there so 40,000 2013 50,000 and 2015 100,000 and this is first week sales in 2017 150,000 in 2019, 200,000 in 2020,
Starting point is 00:13:15 and 300,000 in 2020. So I will only assume with the rise of Afrobeats throughout the 2021, 2021, 2022, and 2023, that he will probably most likely end up selling around 400,000 first week in the first week sales in Africa, of course. because in U.S., like I just said, the sales aren't that impressive. And let me pull it back up just to tell you all, because that went away.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Okay, here we go. Yeah, this is actually kind of interesting because it's night and day compared to Africa and U.S. sales. Okay, here we go. So basically, like I said, with Love, Domeini, how that sold $300,000 first week in Africa. It sold $25,000 first week in the U.S. which is solid numbers for like an independent artist. But people looking at that would probably be like, y'all think, or is this the guy that y'all saying is like the figurehead of Afro beats?
Starting point is 00:14:33 But then you look on the Africa section of sales, and he is really putting up numbers. So, yeah. So that whole point I talked about with artists having two home bases with their music, it really doesn't fly with Burnaboy because, because granted $25,000 first week is
Starting point is 00:14:54 solid for independent artists for a person under a major label which I believe Burner Boy is Burner Boy is under I did not know this is going to be a Burner Boy Deep Dove but here we are
Starting point is 00:15:09 Burner Boy is under Spaceship Records Bad Habit Atlantic Recording Corporation Interesting I wonder if he's always been under that Let me see, his last album.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Yeah, okay. So he's always been under Atlantic Records. Interesting. So I think in Africa, this band is set up to sell over $400,000, which would be honestly insane. And he would definitely be running the global charts. And I believe in the U.S., I don't think his sales would be that it won't be good. Let's just say that.
Starting point is 00:15:53 His sales won't be good in the U.S., but it's solid for independent artists. keep saying but he's under a major label and in atlantic so yeah there you have it so this is a testament to how some artists are received in the hometown versus the u.s which makes people underestimate them like i definitely did because i did not know that man sold 300 000 last year with his album so anyways with all that information click my link tree in my bio let me know on one of my social medias what do you think about burner boy and his latest single accompanied with the music video titled Big Seven, and are you excited for his upcoming album coming out this year titled, I Told Them?
