Starting point is 00:00:04 When will the fad of rappers dropping albums with baby pictures of themselves on the cover end? Question mark. Now, of course, this is a comment from a user of Instagram under Corday's post of his announcement of the Crossroads album cover. So, personally, I think that's straight hate. Like, first of all, I just think that's hate. Because I do think the picture of yourself being young, and doing anything around the craft that you're currently doing as a adult is beyond dope, like as far as a callback in 360 moment or a full circle moment.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Same thing, right? Anyways. All right. So getting into the track, syrup sandwiches with Joey Bat. Well, it's a PG podcast. So let's just say, no, I was going to say Joey Bad, but that would be insane. Is that what Pete did? No, this is a little bit true.
Starting point is 00:01:02 No, all right. All right. Anyways, all right, let me get myself together. All right, so Corday and Joey, I'm just going to call him Joey. Joey has a track syrup sandwiches. And let's just say, Corday is not beating the rumors of, but not even the rumors. He's not beating the accusations of being J-Co Jr., which, honestly, I think it's not a bad thing. I know y'all hear me discredit, Jermaine, but of course, I never say he's a bad rapper. know he's just the most overrated which if you look at the definition I'm not wrong you
Starting point is 00:01:37 know as far as the top three in hip hop him being slide a slid and third place like stolen bases or something like that I think Drake said that or whatever and then j cole was just like you know I'm so glad to be here I was like at the whole at the you know the whole time I was just like just makes no sense who and the top three would just give away their spot from one and two right so he was completely overrated and I mean mean we've seen that when kendrick called him out and germane you know released the disc track and apologized expeditiously so corday on the other hand i think the lyrical ability and his penmanship is why i think being compared to j cole is not a bad thing when they say you're j cole junior
Starting point is 00:02:22 is better than being called a little zan junior a little pump junior even a little yattie junior i mean the list goes on and on right So there's a lot more juniors you can be of that are very below quality. As far as below C level quality, there's a lot of artists you can be accused of copying that are very trash. Like just eternal garbage. A shout out to Eternal Take 2. So anyways, with that being said, Corday is back again with another fire track and he is shaping up to have one of the better albums of 2024. Now, of course, this podcast is all about talking about the notorious mass effect.
Starting point is 00:03:01 So when I'm looking at the charts and I'm looking at the actual, you know, the disappearance, the non-existing or the non-existence of Corday on the charts, it just cements, it basically provides a statement to me and cements the fact that just because you make great quality music does not automatically mean you're going to sell. This is something I say time and time again because of the overall premise of the podcast. I talk about streams and things that have a notorious mass effect on the masses, of course. I guess that's a counterproductive as far as a no, redundant. That's the word. Anyways, let me get back to my point. So Corday, him making good, great quality music does not mean he's going to have good to great streams as far as first week. I think people get that confused because of the premise of this podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:03 When I go over numbers, I'll talk about the litmus scale that we use to compare superstars. Now, what it does say is that the amount of anticipation is limited for you. The amount of anticipation that you can rise or that you can raise due to your marketing strategy and marketing tactics is very, I'm not going to say subpar, but it's ineffective, non-effective. I think it's ineffective. when it comes to getting people to tune in to your album. So even though you're making great quality music with the track,
Starting point is 00:04:38 what was the track called, Saturday mornings with Little Wayne that was released July 24th, 2024, which is still one of the better tracks of 2024, mind you. Then you have August 28th, 2024 Summer Drop with Anderson Pack, which is still one of the better tracks of 2024, mind you. And then he has this track with Joey, Serb Sandwiches and then the track Mad As F. So with that being said,
Starting point is 00:05:04 Crossroads is shaping up to be a great album when eventually releases. Now, I think what was the release date? Oh, November 15th. Oh, so it comes out next weekend. Okay. So Big Sean is a prime example of making good quality music. Even though I didn't really care for the album, I called it NyQuil type raps. It doesn't mean that the rap's words in lyrically.
Starting point is 00:05:30 above average, right? It's just the vibes sonically was very lackluster. It felt like he was in bed recording his verses. For Corday, it's not the same. I think Corday is more energetic with his delivery and as far as the production that he's using. But I say that to say this. I mean, there's a reason why the Big Sean and Gunner track
Starting point is 00:05:51 is the best, is one of the more favorite tracks off of Big Sean's latest album. I mean, the upbeat vibe and things of that nature. and then of course the track yes big sean seemed like he was actually up for that track as far as like recording it so anyways reason why i say that is because big sean sold 22 000 first week now ladies and gentlemen i just want you all know big sean was once considered the big three of hip-hop so the same point i had with germain forever is the same point that stands with big shan people are saying that we only listen to him because of him being signed to conier and then once Kanye turned his back on big
Starting point is 00:06:29 Sean the rest of his fan base did which I push back on that because I do think Big Sean has its own fan base based on his own talent I think what happened was this man fell in love and I know that sounds terrible to say in the in the span of humanity but him falling in love with Janaya Ako just inevitably was the downfall of his frequency of output as far as quality wise and of course output because the track the album with Metro Boomin, I think it was titled Double or Nothing, should have told us that him falling in love was something that we just could not deal with, especially with the quality level of Big Sean. So he put out an album double or nothing with Metro in 2017. And let's just say that that was not his greatest album.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And that's why I sold 50,000 first week. So, um, Detroit two, I think was a great bounce back. This is not a Big Sean segment. I'm just bringing this full circle for Quartet. Detroit to 103,000 first week sales. And it seemed like Big Sean was back, right? And that was released back in what, 2020 or something like that? Detroit two.
Starting point is 00:07:50 That was released back in 2020. Yeah. So September 4th, 2020. And then Big Sean came back again. with this album better me than you and everybody was thinking that was going to be like a continuation of Detroit too right completely wrong it was not up to par as far as Detroit 2 and it ended up paying the price when it come to the first week sales as selling under 23,000 on a major label because if you don't remember uh big Sean is under
Starting point is 00:08:25 Def Jam entertainment a division of UMG recordings universal music group is one of the biggest labels, music labels in the world. Like, totality, music market share, Universal Music Group has 41% of the music market share as far as what people are listening to. So if you're under this label, obviously you don't know how to get people to listen
Starting point is 00:08:46 to your music, right? And then, based off the nostalgia factor, you would think people would tune in, but obviously they did not, as he sold under $23,000 after just selling over six figures with his last album in 2020. So to bring it for a circle,
Starting point is 00:09:06 Corday putting out high quality music, even though his sales may look away, I would just encourage people to go in simply off of what you want to get from a Corday project. Because of course, if Little Wayne, if Anderson Pack can't help you chart or even keep a track in the top 50,
Starting point is 00:09:28 because I know this track definitely not. going to do it the track with joey and no disrespect to joey but going back to my point if a track with little wayne that's fire phenomenal one of the best rapping you were here in 2024 if the track with anderson pack which is one of the better tracks just in totality in 2024 can't stay on the charts then it may be time to just realize that just because you make great quality music does not mean you're going to have great numbers sometimes it just does not connect to the masses, which is okay. You know, you can hang your hat on.
Starting point is 00:10:05 At least I put my all into the quality level of my content, right? So that's what I'm saying that. Now, when it comes to Corday, it's not just like a done deal that he's not going to sell well. I'm just saying not having any tracks on the charts when the track with Little Wayne that was phenomenal came out like months ago because. That was actually the first single for the for the album, I believe. And that came out July 24th, 2024. And of course you said, well, that's a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Of course it's not going to be on the charts. Well, summer drop came out August 28th, 2024, which is technically a while ago. But that also didn't stay on the charts like it should have. So charts isn't everything, which is why I keep reiterating this point because I do enjoy Corday's music. I think he puts out some of the greatest. bodies of work as far as the modern generation when you come to the um the uzies the savages of the world as far as the content and life in general that's why i keep bringing a big shine as far as life in general and introspective raps and things you can actually use as substance to evolve as a man
Starting point is 00:11:19 i think corday is top tier but when it comes to numbers they don't care about all that so they want to listen to what they think is easy or easily replayable which is why Drake is called the McDonald's of rap 24-7 because everybody says he makes music that's easily digestible but maybe sometimes that is called for whenever you want to track to stay on the charts but obviously court they does not care because with these two singles that's definitely not going to do what you need to do as far as the master's is considered but quality-wise I think it's shaping up to be one of his better albums because the crossroads is set to come out next weekend it's going to be a great album
Starting point is 00:12:00 it's um from my estimations i think this album's going to be great so as far as corday in first week i think in general he okay yeah he usually doesn't sell well oh okay well there there goes uh that so i didn't want to say it was the done deal this man has never sold above 31 000 and lost boy is like considered his class well not classic but you know it's considered his better body of work out of his discography and that sold 30,000 first week and then bird from a bird's eye view sold 21,000 first week so to bring it forward circle i mean this is why i keep bringing up um big shine so just because you can rap and make great not even rap just you know generalizing it i'm not going to keep being a dead horse y'all get what i'm saying corday about to flop man that's basically
Starting point is 00:12:57 what i'm about to say corday about to flop this man putting out great raps but nobody won't hear that because it's not a hit it's not easily replayable in the club but i just want to say that i think corday's crossroads that when it comes out next week november 15th it will be one of the better projects hip-hop projects of 2024 so that means that click my link to my bio let me know one of my social medias what do you think about the whole argument of great quality doesn't equal great sales and ultimately are you looking forward to corday's album crossroads that comes out November 15th.
