Now, when talking about games that notoriously affect the masses,
safe to say Counter Strike, unfortunately,
has never been dove into on this particular podcast.
Shepard, just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
Sad day in history, as you already know,
especially if you're a gamer.
Well, if you don't, but now you do know.
Because guess what?
Counterstrike 2 currently, and for the foreseeable future,
is the most popular game on Steam.
And interestingly enough, that whole drop that I just played is from the actual game.
That's my first time diving into.
Now, if you don't know, when it comes to Counter Strike 2,
the overall player count as of right now is 1.2 million players,
like concurrently playing the game.
The 24-hour peak is 1.5 million only on Steam.
Now, think about that.
This particular game, Counter Strike 2 is only,
available on PC.
So you're probably thinking to yourself.
How in the world is
Counter Strike 2 completely
dominating the Steam charts
month after month, year
after year, decade after...
Okay, y'all get the point, right?
So with that being said, Counterstrike 2
currently has made
an egregious amount of money.
And guess what the kicker is?
It's a free-to-play game.
You guys.
As Counter-Strike 2 has earned,
earned 6.7 billion.
What to be.
Lifetime sales, and these are estimates up to
2023, so it's even more in the
current year of 2025. Well, as we're recording this.
And then when you look at the ongoing
revenue coming in, it's
from a lot of particular things, but
the main reason why it consistently
raises on the charts on
Steam is because of free
prime drops, a lot of
e-sports event, a prime example.
The latest e-sports.
event that's going on right now, I believe.
I think it may have just ended.
But it was called the Star Ladder, Budapest major 2025 finals that ran from November
2024 of 2025 to December 14th of 2025.
And I guess I'll spoil it.
Well, I don't, yeah, I'll spoil it.
It's already over.
So, Vitility won versus phase.
And it was 32 teams in total.
And guess what the cash prize was?
1.2 million dollars.
I know that ain't who I think it is.
Ladies and gentlemen, if you look at a price pool of $1.2 million,
safe to say the game itself is generating way more as far as in totality.
Now, of course, we do have to talk about the foundation of Counterstrike
because when you look at Counter Strike 1,
that initially was a beta mod for Half Life on June 19th, 19th,
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, technically, this game was out in the 90s and technicality.
Now, when you look at the full release version, as far as version 1.0 by Valve, it was on, it was
released on November 9th, 2000. And of course, the 1.6 version was released in 2003.
Now, safe to say, when Counter Strike 2 came out, September 27, 2023, which, you know, it was also
a free to play. I think the main thing that encapsvates people, not only it being free to play is a
huge factor, but when you look at the specs specifically for Counterstrike 2, they, as far as
as Valve, the developers, they intentionally lowered the specs so a lot of people can play the game
as far as on a broad spectrum. Because if you look at it, the low specs, you need a minimum of Windows 10
ITEL core i 5
8 gigabytes of RAM
which really isn't a lot
and then of course when you look at
the upgraded hardware
that we have the capabilities
in the advancement of hardware
as of right now you could tell why
they lowered the specs when you look at the
player count
in the Steam charts
because of course when you
lower the specs safe to say
everybody in their mama could play this game
I mean you could mess around and run this
game on a toaster if you wanted to so that's also a factor for this particular game but then of course
when it comes back to counter strike two and you look at the platform only being steam you come to realize
that this is definitely a cult like fan base that we're talking about and when covering counterstrike i
definitely wanted to let people who is outside of the counterstrike universe know why this game is so
popular as if you don't know it's a tactical fps right it popularized the 5 v5 format
as far as the bomb defusal which you know my iconic drop comes from you know what I'm
saying so when it comes to that there's also modes like hostage rescue for
Counter Strike 2 specifically the match format is mr12 which is first to 13 rounds
and oh round wins and of course you have the economy system which is the money earned from
kills wins objectives and you can use that currency for weapons armor utility
like smokes flashes grenades molotos etc so when you look at the ranking system that's the main thing
that a lot of people try to get better at because of course we just talked about the latest tournament
having a 1.2 million prize pool which is insane by the way and so now when you look at people trying to
go professional in the gaming ecosystem safe to say counter strike two is probably on the top of their list
if not in the top three at least so now you probably think of like what makes this game
unique from other tactical shooters.
But if you look at Counter Strike 2 specifically, it's free to play.
Now, I don't know how more unique it gets from a famous tactical shooter being free to
play.
I can't name any other tactical shooter that is as popular as Counterstrike that doesn't
have a price tag attached to it.
And it's not like demeaning the other tactical shooters because I think the biggest one
that I could think of it as of right now is probably Rainbow Six Siege.
and of course it has a price tag along with it but with CSGO being easy to run on whatever platform
you're using or whatever PC you're using safe to say it's very unique in that aspect as far as it
being free to play now when you look at the content because of it being free to play that's also
another accomplishment under valves belt as they have 29 weapons in total 13 factions over a thousand
skins. And of course, when it comes to the economy, Valve takes 15% cut on steam market trades. Yes,
ladies and gentlemen, this may be the original cryptocurrency. Shepard, just look at the state
of gaming. Like, what is going on? As when you look at the most expensive skin ever in history,
it was the carombin knife. Hopefully I'm saying that, right? If I'm not Counterstrike 2 coat,
please don't kill me but when it comes to the carambid knife it went for and i kid you not
one point five million dollars and then of course the AK 47 skin sell exceeded one million dollars
now these millions of dollars being thrown around for one particular item sure obviously
showcased why people are very acclimated into this game and can't get enough of it as one time
I posted one of my clips on social media because I always touch on counterstrike too.
I just never dove deep into it like we're doing in this specific segment. So I talked about
counterstrike and Dota, I was basically asking the question because you know, as far as me who
never played counterstrike, I was wondering why is this game so popular? And then you come to realize a lot of
people are so addicted to Counterstrike, for lack of a better word, that they continue to play the game,
time and the timeout. It's almost the equivalent to people who still play GTA 5 online and don't play any other game, right? It's basically the same drive time and time again that makes them come back to the game. And, you know, let alone the way that you can go professional, if you're really good, if you basically get good, like a lot of gamers say at the game. So now when you look at that as far as you actually being able to go professional in this game, because I think the main thing about GTA 5 online,
as far as going professional it's probably making a popular online role play server like t grizzly did i
think that's the equivalent of going pro and counter strike two as far as the monetary value that's what i'm
talking about so now as far as the review and sales round up we already got into the sales um more
particularly well i guess we didn't talk about the counter strike sales so when counter strike one
came out all the way back in the 2000s right um up to 2004 it was estimated to have around 75 million
and retail revenue as a free to play game remind you this is a free to free to play game so anyways
and then with counter strike two um the successor of course um overall i was going to look at the
franchise so you look at valve and the lifetime value of valve up to 2023 is 6.7 billion and in
counter strike two added one billion from cases in 2023 alone and 610 million and
the halfway quarter of 2024 and then 82 million in March 2025 so safe to say when you look at
counter strike is not showing any sign of slowing down as you look at the overall charts
the all-time peak was eight months ago which is tremendous especially for a game of counterstrike
statute because now you're looking at 1.8 million as far as the all-time peak of eight months ago
and you come to realize these people are not slowing down to the slightest they're going to continue
to dominate the steam charts and when it comes to another factor as far as the counter strike two
sales safe to say a lot of people were upset about you know certain things about the game because i
believe when you look at the continuation from counter strike one to counter strike two a lot of
people was a little upset i'm not going to say completely because you know it's still selling well and
immensely popular but they didn't enjoy how CSGO was fully overwritten as far as the second one
and they said was missing a lot of modes slash maps and then of course when you look at the cheating
crisis apparently people get banned weekly like tens of thousands and when you look at the prize
pool that i just talked about in the latest tournament mind you it's not tournament from three
four years ago the latest tournament had around what was the number like one point something
million yeah basically the latest tournament which was the booted past major 2025 finals the
ultimate winning pop was 1.2 million dollars which is crazy right so a lot of people get banned
weekly because they're just out here cheating just blatantly cheating like come on now you can't be
doing that in a competitive game you know that they are going to catch you at some point so apparently
valve is out here banning tens of thousands weekly right 85% of players report encountering
So they're pulling a page out of my favorite artist,
they're pulling a page out of my favorite artist's playbook,
basically saying to themselves,
is it okay, I got my dope on me?
As they pull an Aubrey Graham in the courtroom.
So now, when you look at 85% of players reporting,
encountering cheaters,
and always talking about,
oh, we got to keep the game basically fair
because if the cheaters ran rampant,
then no telling how much revenue they'll be able to stock up
if Valve never caught them.
So that was a little obstacle for Valve when Counter Strike 2 first came out.
And then of course, when it comes to the overall economic impact, already talked about that.
The community is alive and well, one of the best communities in gaming.
As one of the knives in this particular game, as far as Counter Strike 2, well, some of the knives,
they remain around $50 plus.
So when you play a certain game, you could really turn it into a,
A hobby well a side job really is because the hobbies like technically for free
But if you do it as a side job if you get very equipped as selling certain items and counter
strike you could turn it into a plausible side job and that's basically what I was wanting to say as
Counterstrike 2 is not only immensely popular but it's one of Steam's most profitable games ever like of all time
So now when you look at Valve always stepping in to let y'all know who's boss basically disrupting a lot of different things
when it comes to the player-driven markets
because, of course, if the player resale price
was dominant over the influence factor,
then I don't think CounterStrike would be where it is today.
That's why Valve always has to step in
and have a willingness to disrupt a lot of player-driven markets
because, of course, to put in a music landscape
because, you know, I do cover music and gaming
for the people who's watching as a Counter-Strike fan,
basically in music,
it'd be the equivalent to letting to,
what's um not rock nation live nation it'd be the equivalent to live nation letting everybody resell tickets
and ever setting a precedent on basically how many tickets you could buy at first as far as the scalpers right
they always try to hint uh play as a hindrance to the scalpers and things of that nature because if you let
them run ramp it then you ultimately mess up their whole ecosystem so that's why valve always steps
in from time to time and takes away certain uh power as far as in the player markets and
When it comes to that, um, safe to say, when you look at the review roundups, everybody has
glorn reviews to say about this game, as PC Gamer gave it a 90 out of 100, saying, quote,
in an era of flagging service games, it is refreshing to see an old favorite so thoroughly
rejuvenated. Blizzard, take note, this is how it's done. Well, why they have to send that shot?
You guys, see, that's the problem. Blizzard called it straight for no reason.
I was trying to find a oh yeah PC Gamer
PC Games with the N, capital end
gave this an 8 out of 10 saying quote
Valve has improved the counter strike formula
with the release of CS2
even if there's still a lot of work to be done
before its feature complete
while we're in the dark on specific timelines
the developer's work rate has been promising
since launch and if it continues at this pace
we're in for an exciting
2024 as Valve ushers
in a new error of Counterstrike.
Now, of course, keep in mind
that this particular game, Counterstrike 2,
came out September 27, 2023.
So when they're talking about 2024,
they're in the past and obviously one in the future.
So keep that in mind.
Eurogamer
gave it an 80 out of 100 saying,
quote, for all it,
where in the world is that? Fallibles?
No, what is this word? I ain't going to lie to you.
I need Jarvis to read this out to me,
because I've never seen a word like this in the history of words.
I ain't, you know, kept to you.
Hold up.
You come as.
Nope, that's not it.
All right.
So I literally highlighted it and safe to say, it's just completely didn't read it at all.
It was like, I'm not trying to read it either.
Okay.
Okay, I think it's about to read it.
Hold up.
Okay, hold up.
Okay, it's not going to read it.
So that's fantastic.
I don't know what this word is.
I ain't going to lie.
Fool of Bulls.
It's F-O-I-I how to say.
Let me see, how to say.
because I've never seen this word, like ever.
Like, what in the world?
You can listen to audio pronunciation.
Let me see.
Oh, here we go.
Uh-oh.
We about to learn a new word today, guys.
Hey, listen up.
Class, listen up, but I learn the word.
Foybles.
Mm.
One more time.
Foybles.
Foyables.
Now, I ain't on cat to you.
I'm never going to use that word in the history of life.
Even though I just did, kind of.
So, anyways.
Yeah, so foibles.
whatever that word is i don't know why euro gamers use that word uh for all those fouribles though
i have confidence that valve is at least pushing the game in the right direction the bottom line
this is already an incredible game that's well worth playing after all it is counterstrike two wow
you know what i'm saying clap at the you know what i mean they could be a writer you know
they could be a rapper or something you know out here using words and double entendres i see what they did
you know they use two with the T O O I got the point.
All right.
People like the game, right?
And I didn't mean to make this review longer than it is.
But, you know, at the end of day, I do like to dive into the entire review and sales roundup.
So I just want to give you all synopsis of why people hold this in such high regard.
And also, you know, me as a professional pocket watcher, you know, I had to dive into the actual game.
Because, of course, if I'm going to have a sound bite on my soundboard, that's not going anywhere.
Because I love the sound effect.
I ain't going to cap to you.
I love that sound effect.
Then I might as well at least once dive into the particular franchise that as of right now, it's worth billions of dollars.
So that being said, click my link to you in my bio.
Let me know in one of my social media is what do you think about CounterStrike in general as far as a franchise.
And if you play Counter Strike 2, comment down below what is your favorite aspect of playing CounterStrike?
