Starting point is 00:00:00 Now it's very interesting how Dave dropped a single on the same day that Burnaboy released the album with him being on it. So if you're not familiar with Burnaboy, it's one of the, if not the, largest Afrobeat beats artists in the world. I mean, you know, it's definitely debatable because you have Tim's, you have Wiz Kid, but in the grand scheme of things, Bernard Boy is talking to town right now because he just put out an album titled I Told Them. Now, if you don't know, the track with Dave, titled Cheat on Me, is actually on the album. I told them, but that specific track came out August 22nd, 2023. So I'm going to give it a little bit more leeway, but at the end of the day, you did put out a single at the same time that Burnaboy put out his album, which I don't think is a coincidence at all. I think maybe he's just trying to, what's the word?
Starting point is 00:00:53 He's just trying to capitalize off of the publicity of being on one of the biggest Afrobeat artists in the world's album. So I'm not mad at it. By the end of the day, that's what we're here to talk about. So they put out a new single titled Meridian. Now, at first glance, you're probably like, what in the world does that mean? And I'm here to let you know. I have no idea either. So in the grand scheme of things, this man.
Starting point is 00:01:23 has put out one two three four five one two three four five he's been on five tracks okay he has sprinter that's solely his split decision that's a collab EP with central C that came out this year he has some track by some dude i don't know who that is then he has oh he's on a track with gigs okay okay and then of course the track with burner boy which is probably the best biggest if i mean not centric see let me not let me not play central c central c central c is definitely him um so central c he's also on the track with him but and made a whole album title of split decision which in general hold up i think that i think that whole project did pretty well if i might add because i think with sprinter i don't i want to say okay so that's just for the track i want to know for the album how
Starting point is 00:02:28 How much did that do? But I mean, it's an EP, so it probably didn't do that much. So we're not going to judge off of that. What we are going to judge off of is his last album. So Burner Boy's last album titled We're All in This Together, which released 2021, July 22nd, that did 74 to 75,000 first week sales in UK rap albums. And basically, it was the biggest first week sales of any UK rap album in the past decade. so you know what i had to do went straight to pocket watch i'm like okay who's paying this man
Starting point is 00:03:06 because ain't no way that i'm not fin to figure out how much this man is making and i went to his profile of course to see what type of uh label he was under only to come to find out this man is basically independent like the late it's literally says dave as far as the first credit and then after that it says neighborhood recordings yes you heard me correctly neighborhood recording. Sound like some him and his homies came up with just to make it sound legit. But basically, Neighborhood's Recordings is a London-based record label, founded in 2017 by Jack Foster and Benny Scars.
Starting point is 00:03:42 And it has a lot of other UK artists, including Dave, Hetty 1, A.J. Tracy. And it's just known for developing and promoting music in the British hip-hop landscape. And don't ask me why 21 Savage isn't a part of the label. I think maybe, you know, just maybe a little miscommunication on 21 Savage and, you know, basically telling them where he was from, you know, kind of, kind of, you know, lying a little bit. But, you know, that's precise a point. So, yes, 21 Savage is not part of that label. But at the end of the day, UK music is here to stay as we have Dave, Central C.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I've heard Hetty One's name come up a bit. But at the end, well, I already said that. Meridian, which is a new single by Dave, I think will be a perfect rollout, especially with him being on Burnaboy's album for whatever he has coming out this year. I mean, he can literally put out an album next year because he already has an entire body of work with Central C. Granted, is an EP, but it's 16 minutes long. So it holds you over enough for this single, which is brand new. That's the lead up to an eventual album.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I think he's feeding his fans tremendously. And the type of music that Dave makes, I feel like it's beyond average. Like, it's above average. And I think he's a really solid artist. And he's one of those that I picked to be better as far as the most potential. I remember for the Grammys, I think he was nominated for Best New Artists or Best Overseas Artist. I think it was Best New Artist. It was like Dave and Burner Boy in the Cadetian.
Starting point is 00:05:27 I think Burner Boy ended up winning. Somebody ended up winning. It wasn't Dave. And to this day, I mean, of course, Burner Boy with his album, a lot, he's like the talk of the town, but I'm still stuck on Dave as Burner Boy's album or Burner Boy's numbers. It's a little fuzzy. It's hard for me to find.
Starting point is 00:05:45 It ain't going to lie. He's the talk of the town. He's under a bigger major label. Let's not forget that. Burn a boy, if I was to look it up, which I am right now. Let me see. Burner Boy is under Atlantic. Okay, yeah, this man's under Atlantic.
Starting point is 00:06:03 So that's way bigger than neighborhood records. So I think in general, I'm still personally more invested in Dave as an artist because I just feel like he makes better music. I know that's going to hurt some of your hearts. But I've always thought Dave was the better up-and-coming artist. And I still, to this day, believe that Dave is one of those where I just feel like his potential is just through the roof. and he's still accomplishing this, quote, unquote, independent. You know, just because you have a London-based record label,
Starting point is 00:06:37 let's just say a London-based record label in America compared to an Atlantic recording corporation. Like, come on now. Like, which ones has the bigger machine? And Dave, to have the lesser machine, but still to put up numbers that's the biggest first week sales of any UK rap album in the past decade, huge achievement down there I don't know if a lot of people are pay attention to enough so anyways
Starting point is 00:07:03 click my link to my bio let me know one of my social medias what do you think about Dave and his return with his new single title meridian and who do you think is or has the most potential with when it comes to overseas artists
