Starting point is 00:00:00 Universal Music Group held its quarterly earnings call, and let me just tell you, AI was on the top of that list. They was not, not even the slightest amused by all these AI covers of the artists they have signed under contract. So within minutes of the earnings call, the CEO and chairman of Universal Music Group, Lucian Grange, who is probably one of the more prominent and powerful names you're ever going to hear in the music industry. Said that the AI content that's being put out is a quote unquote content over supply that currently sees around 100,000 tracks a day
Starting point is 00:00:54 distributed to music streaming services. He also said, quote, This is from Lucian Grange. Like, this is not no random person in the music industry just talking stuff. This is the person that could press one button and your whole channel's gone. And best believe me, a lot of content creators know what I'm talking about. Universal Music Group is probably one of the most powerful companies in the music industry. So anyways, Lucian Grange said, quote, not many people realize that AI has already
Starting point is 00:01:33 been a major contributor to this content oversupply. Most of this AI content on DSPs comes from the prior generation of AI, a technology that is not trained on copyright IP and that produces very poor quality output with virtually no consumer appeal. Now, that's the best way to say, I'm flat out hating on all these ghostwriters out here. making money off of these AI cover songs. That's the most like intricate way and professional way to say I'm tired of y'all making money off of creative ways. You know, like we've got to shut all that stuff down because Lucian Grange did not hold back on this whole earnings call. Of course, I'm not going to bore y'all with the other details. But of course, I think it's very like interesting. But for some of y'all, y'all, y'all be like, earnings call. Like, what is that? Like, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:30 I'm not trying to listen to that. So anyways, let me just some of you. summarize it. Universal Music Group is shutting down everybody who's trying to make money off of DSPs with these AI cover tracks, which technically makes sense because I believe you can't use somebody's name and make money off of them as far as name, likeness, and then the sounds, right? I think that makes sense. But for me, like, let's take my podcast, for example, notorious mass effect. For my episodes, I use the notorious mass effect, um, theme song and then I used a notorious song uh is it juicy I forget what it's called at the beginning of of my
Starting point is 00:03:12 episodes like the first 15 seconds is like a mix between those two theme songs and then I have the faces of course on the cover of my podcast now if they reached out and was like hey we're tired of you using our uh notorious mass effect face on your cover page guess what I would have to do I I don't have to change it because that's usually how it goes. Like in general, you can't just really put whatever you want on your cover page and expect it to fly for the foreseeable future. For right now, of course, I'm not saying they've seen it and just was like, oh, that's cool. But, you know, at this point with the way the podcast is performing, I'm pretty sure they've somebody in the Mass Effect bioware or the notorious Massific estate has probably seen the podcast.
Starting point is 00:04:06 I'm not like trying to be braggadocious, but at this point, I would feel like you could literally look up notorious mass effect and all my stuff pops up. So it's like I know they probably know about it. So, and of course, I have other logos, but I'm just giving you a
Starting point is 00:04:21 personal perspective of just how what's the word? I forget what it's called, but it's like creative copyright or it's like a see, I feel like creative something is, is a great area because it's what you can prove rather than what's actually correct.
Starting point is 00:04:46 And for Universal Music Group, they probably have some of the best lawyers like to ever live. So you don't really want to battle with them. And I think a lot of these content creators, as far as ghost writers who's making money off of these artists will unfortunately start to realize that universal music going up against them is a losing battle so what else oh yeah so this segment is specifically titled drake too late which is another AI cover and of course you know i got it you know i got the link in description i got a whole jaw down but it's a really slow track it's more of a singing type of track and i think after you listen to this track, you will start to realize that these ghost riders are actually
Starting point is 00:05:34 getting creative and are making songs that genuinely sounds like Drake, not just like some corny bars that's just thrown out, which, you know, most people think Drake is corny. So I guess, you know, I guess it fits right into that. But yeah, so a lot of these ghost riders are getting very, very creative with these tracks. And I'm interesting to see where it goes. But right now, University of music group has let it be known, has let, has put the world on notice that it is from now on war on AI cover songs. So anyways, cover my link tree. I cover. What? Anyways, I'm not editing that out either. So you know you got to listen to my mistakes. Anyways, click my link tree in my bio. Let me know one of my social medias. What do you think about this whole universe of music
Starting point is 00:06:25 group versus AI cover songs and do you think they're justified in their attack on AI content
