Starting point is 00:00:04 Now, even though we're getting into basically a card game, which is a poker theme, rogue-like, is still available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. And, of course, it's available on iOS and Android. Now, as far as a car game receiving such critical acclaim as far as to the point where it was nominated at the Game Awards for literally Game of the Year. Do y'all not know how insane a card game has to be for it to get nominated for Game of the Year? Like this means that a bunch of people was vouching for it as far as this being one of the most pivotal games of all time. Because I'm not going to lie to you.
Starting point is 00:00:56 I haven't played this at all. I mean, this looks like something, no disrespect, that you will see at the Bingham, club like you go to bingo night and somebody you know martha she on the slot she's on the on the back and this this is what i imagine it looks like right i don't really find any intrigue into these type of games now that's just me personally i'm just letting y'all know where i stand right you know martha and dorothy over there having fun with this car game meanwhile they over there on the other side playing bingo that's why that's the the picture the setting i would think that these things that these type of games would thrive in.
Starting point is 00:01:37 But I am sorely mistaken as all of the most positive reception in 2024 seems to put this at the top list as far as a nominee for game of the year. And when I looked into it, people were saying it's so addicting, but it's actively avoiding gambling mechanics because it's a strategy about, uh, well, it's about strategy and deck building rather than betting. So it's like at first I thought oh it has to be you know it's a card game right I'm thinking oh they must got this at the casino right this I go back to the like old way of thinking maybe they just nostalgia right maybe they used to bet back you know maybe
Starting point is 00:02:20 Balatro is next to the blackjack back in the casino so apparently this doesn't have any gambling at all so overall I'm just completely flabbergasted on how in the world a game like this could get so critically acclaimed to the point where not only is a nominee for game of the year, but it also won an award, and the award was Best Independent Game. Because if you don't know, when it comes to games like this and the profitability, I mean, $1 million in sales within eight hours, and you're probably wondering to yourself, how in the world does that happen if this game is not based off betting.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Like what enjoyment do people find from this? This is my brain trying to figure out how people are just gravitating towards this game. No hate, just purely ignorant and curiosity combined, which is what we have now as far as my review and sales roundup. As after doing some research, I realized that I have to cover this game because I'm not going to lie to you as far as having 250, 50,000 units sold within the first 72 hours as far as 1 million units sold within launch.
Starting point is 00:03:39 2 million in sales by August 24. And of course, it won Best Independent Game in a nominee for Game of the Year. I mean, so many accolades. At some point, you just got to say, the famous Shack quote, I'm sorry, my brother, I was not familiar with your game, pun intended. So anyways, with this being a rogue-like deck building game, basically a lot of people are falling in love with the gameplay mechanics, which basically is poker-based rogue-like deck building. So innovations for this game essentially is the Joker cards have 150 unique cards modifying, scoring, and adding special effects, right? then the strategy focus with no gambling mechanics.
Starting point is 00:04:36 So they don't focus on gambling at all, which is very honorable if you think of a card game. I mean, first thing you think of when you think of card games is betting, right? Every movie in the world, you go to a casino and they bet in what's the first thing you see? Chips and cards, right? Obviously the slot machines and, you know, things that nature. But for the most part, it's chips and cards. That's essentially what people view when you think of casino.
Starting point is 00:05:01 So with this completely trying to avoid gambling, it's very honorable, in my opinion. Design for players with no prior poker knowledge. So you know how I made all the jokes about, you know, the Marthas of the world, basically playing this game and me as a young buck, not knowing anything about it because I don't have that type of nostalgia. Well, apparently, you don't have to have any previous knowledge as the gameplay mechanics are very different in this, right? and a lot of the replayability
Starting point is 00:05:34 basically comes from the vast joker combinations and deck building strategies so it's very much a thinking man's game or a thinking woman a thinking human game right so with it coming to console having immense success
Starting point is 00:05:52 with it being on mobile having a lot of expansion on that front you realize that having along with that No micro transactions. If this game is not, they're just the ultimate saint of the video game industry. I don't know what is. Because of course, they've had crossovers with Star Do Valley. They've had crossovers with potion craft, cyberpunk 27, and Dave and Divers.
Starting point is 00:06:27 So obviously they've had backing as far as, you know, collaborative, strategic efforts. but still having no micro transactions like as far as from the initial purchase that's it so they aren't really maximizing the amount of revenue that they could be generating but on the other hand from a consumer perspective this is the ultimate w to just showcase that we want people to play our game for it being fun we don't want people to play the game with the likes of or with the um hopes and they like spending hundreds and two hundred dollars on micro transactions which is not wrong with that if the foundation is robust and you give us enough
Starting point is 00:07:06 to wear and make sense to buy additional cosmetics or things in that nature but Bellatro is not doing it at all so that's very interesting and honorable controversies as far as this game because of course with a card game it was temporarily
Starting point is 00:07:22 pulled from platforms due to a messed up rating change to 18 plus I don't know who was hating on a game on what platform but it was removed but it was resolved quickly so you know as far as that people was talking about the gambling type of mechanics that could get people into other card games that does involve gambling but i'm not going to lie to you with no micro transactions with no ties to even trying to get you to put up money i guess as far as a competitive format
Starting point is 00:07:58 that's not Belatro's responsibility. Dave did everything in their power to showcase anti-gambling practices to not have any micro-transactions to the point where if somebody takes this and creates their own version where you do put up money
Starting point is 00:08:17 or maybe the side bit discourse where you put up money and you're playing this game, then you can't really blame this particular video you can't blame Belotro because they practice everything in the world as an indie developer, mind you, to basically showcase how the straight and narrow
Starting point is 00:08:39 can also lead to immense success. As a car game, even being nominated for Game of the Year, let alone winning Best Independent Game is beyond the same. So shout out to Bellatro, as far as the developer, shout out to Local Thunk, basically in anonymous,
Starting point is 00:09:00 solo developer from Canada who created Bellatro. So a lot of people don't know that local thunk develop Canada, develop Ballotro and he's literally from Canada. So a lot of people don't know that. He's anonymous. Don't know why. But as far as being an indie developer, I wonder if they showed him at the Game Awards.
Starting point is 00:09:25 I mean, I would have missed it because, you know, he's not as publicly, you know, accessible. So, but with that, you know, being an independent developer, putting out this type of game that's received this amount of insane critical perception or critical acclaim. I mean, it's just, I'm just speechless, man. It's one of the first times I've ever seen a game, not understood it, researched, and it came out with, you know what? ultimately a lot of things as far as a consumer friendly aspect is obvious in this game to where this amount of high critical acclaim I mean just you know trying to be a positive person you know having a glass half full type of perspective hopefully other games try to follow
Starting point is 00:10:20 this type of model with the hopes of getting garnering the same amount of critical acclaim for the simple fact that Bellatro did it with no micro transactions with no gambling type of mechanics. Why can't we? Right? So with that been said, click my link to your bio.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Let me know in one of my social medias. What do you think about Bellatro being a car game that was dominated for game of the year? What do you think about it? What do you think about it being available on every platform? I mean, consoles, PC, mobile, you name it. Whatever you have, you can look up. Belatro on your local game store. So with that being said, will you be willing to give this a try?
Starting point is 00:11:01 And if you have, what is your favorite aspect of Bellatro?
