All right, all jokes aside, we are here to get into the greatest rapper of all time. And of course, you already know over here at Notorious Mass Effect, we're getting into the gaming and music IPs that notoriously affect the masses. And when it comes to my coverage of Jay-Z, safe to say, he does exactly that. But hold on now. You guys. When it comes to my recent coverage, safe to say, we've been diving into a lot of lawyer and legalities that has been surrounding Sean Carter more commonly referred to as Jay-Z.

So for this specific segment, we're going to put immense respect on his musical career, as he is set to not only perform, but headline the Roots Picnic set to happen May 30th through the 31st, which is a two-day event, right, at the Belmont Plateau at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Now, the reason why this is a big deal, because I don't know if y'all been paying attention or not, but, yeah, Jay-Z doesn't really perform like that. Like, actually looking at his list of performances,

it is very scarce, right? I don't know why in the world he chose this specific event to perform at, but then you come to realize. With Jay-Z celebrating his 30th anniversary as far as the reasonable doubt album that came out June 25th, 1996. Goodness gracious. This man, old ain't he? Anyways, this is the premier spot to perform at in his mind,

because when you look at it in totality, it doesn't make sense. Now, before y'all kill me. I know that ain't who I think of this. I know that's not a black man talking down on the Roos picnic. Now, technically I am not, but I do have to keep it eight more than 92 as you. y'all know for the people who went to that event what happened and why this is such a plot twist and a crazy turn of events because just last year mind you the roots picnic went through a plethora of negative headlines because of the people who did not enjoy their time there oh and you

don't believe me safe to say i got receipts ladies and gentlemen when it comes to the roots picnic in 2025, the reason why I was surprised to see Jay-Z go this route is because just last year, it faced not only a lot of delays because of the heavy rain, which you can't, you know, you can't predict mother nature, right?

So, you know, we're just going to let them have that. But then, of course, when you get to the poor communication, when you get into the long lines, the limited bathrooms and water? Shepard. All right, my fault. Basically, what I'm trying to tell you is, The Roo Picnic last year went through major scrutiny to the point where the organizers came out and apologized.

Not J-Coh. Not J-Code-Koo. They came out and apologized. But cited the rain or shine policy and denied refunds. But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip-hop. Like, what's going on? Now, of course, the makeup for this because a lot of people was upset.

I mean, fans demanded refunds. I don't know a fan who was. went there who didn't demand a refund, right? So that's why the organizers had to come out and say, hey, we got your money. And if you want a refund, guess what? I said, if you want a refund, guess what? Who do need you? And we beat Eifold?

We beat them. We go forward. So a lot of people was upset. But, you know, when it comes to 2026, which is the current year, I think having Jay-Z, along with a list of very highly acclaimed artists, if I do say so myself, analytic dreams video on spotify to see the video along with the audio because not only not only do you have j z in the roots headlining but you also have erika badu headlining of course you have kalani brandy ti mariah the scientists uh black thought waleigh jermaine

depre and friends like basically you have a lot of people on this uh list of performers especially for it to be a two day event so i think the way they're going about making it way better than 2025 like one you know it's not too hard but you know let me not be too harsh on the event because it's a black ran event right i'm not trying to be too harsh on it but i do have to keep the facts you know uh present for the people who are coming for informative content so when it comes to that um 2026 is also moving to a new venue so not only only only are they moving to a new venue but the main reason of moving to a new venue is because of the that 2025 Roots Picnic went. So specifically, they are upgrading the festival mobile app.

They're improving messaging slash communication systems and are also making a second interest, entrance to reduce wait times and congestion. Shout out to them for actually making the monumental changes in for acquiring the greatest rapper of all time. I mean, talk about a comeback story, right so now when you look at this lineup as far as all of these highly acclaimed artists coming out to perform on it at a two-day event you come to realize that jZ doesn't really perform that often when you look at his list of performances it's very rare the last solo tour for jZ was in 2017 as far as the four-four four four tour now that was the last solo kind of know somebody gonna be like to somebody going to be out there like hey well actually Sean Carter went on 2018 well yes you're correct it was a

joint tour with the one and only Beyonce called on the run too so when you look at his last solo outing touring it was 2017 so almost a decade ago so now looking at his last live performance just in general it was June 20 25 at the Paris cowboy Carter tour appearance right and then you had the last appearance being 2019 with something in the water. So safe to say, this is a very rare live appearance and what other venue is more fitting to change the narrative because of how last year went than the Roos Picnic. So I think one hand washes the other. Jay-Z gets to come out and perform live for the first time in a while. The Roos get to completely change the narrative because last year, people was ready to, I mean, they were ready to to riot they had their picket uh the the the pitchforks they had their fires

they was ready to go crazy and then you come to realize this is a black ran event you guys see that's the problem so not only do they have to make up for how 2025 show went but safe to say with jZ coming out and of course like i said at the beginning of the segment the 30th and of the 30th year anniversary of reasonable doubt so that means There's future performances for Jay-Z. So it's not just the Roots picnic. He's basically making a big deal out of this 30-year anniversary, which is a huge deal.

Don't get it twisted. And the rap industry is very similar to NFL running backs. As far as you having three to four years at your height, and then you're probably going to fall off of the next new running back to take your spot. So for Jay-Z to be in this game for quite some time, like if I was to put in perspective Tom Brady in the NFL is kind of like Jay Z and hip hop the way that he's had longevity

and of course nobody would say oh Tom Brady was just ran the fastest oh he was the QB with the strongest arm oh he was the greatest basically the physical attributes aren't there you know in short so when you look at Jay Z he's always been like that coming up especially against

his competition never was he looked at as oh he just has everything better than his competition at the time right it was always a steady increase and he come to realize 10 20 years later that the biggest thing that we respect jZ for is his business acclimate in his mind as far as approaching how to elevate your brand in the hip-hop game so anyways the reason why i say that is because after the Roots picnic he also has um he's also going on another show i think i think i had it somewhere so he's going on another show for the um yeah for the reasonable doubt 30 year uh and 30 year anniversary so basically i was trying to see if i could find it i don't know i I don't know where is that.

Okay, so the anniversary has a dedicated website launch with re-releases plus streaming additions, and that's for the reasonable doubt, 30th year anniversary. But more specifically, I wanted to get into his next headline. So he has the Roos Picnic, of course. And then he has another one, but I totally, I had it on here. I don't know where's that. Anyways, I guess it's going to come up at some point. So anyways, let's get into something else.

So when it comes to Jay-Z and his overall stature in hip-hop, this is what we got to talk about because now you probably wonder to yourself, how did Jay-Z's name get so scrutinized to the moon and back if he's widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time? But that's a great question. To put in layman's terms, Jay-Z hasn't been very heavily in music for quite some time. Like I said, his last album was what, 4-4-4?

And that came out, let me see, 4-4-4 came out, 2017, July 7. So July 7, 2020, 2017 is when his last solo album came out. Since then, 2021, he was indicted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And then, of course, where it started for me, as far as what I pinpoint, where the scrutiny began for him, is when he became a chairman of Rock Nation's um, NFL partnership for the Super Bowl halftime shows, which is the entertainment strategy,

et cetera, right? And, um, that et cetera is actually pretty important. The et cetera was a social justice, uh, social justice via inspired change.

Now, the reason why that's such a big deal as far as why the scrutiny started for Jay Z is because when JZ, hold up, because I don't want y'all think I'm making this up, right? So when it comes to Jay Z, let me see Jay Z

at some type of board with the NFL and this is the quote that basically had everybody saying like hold up now who in the world is this guy

to say this right so it's 11 second clip obviously I'll be able to tell you the full context but here it is

right here I think we've passed kneeling and ladies the gentleman that's what did it But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip hop.

Like, what's going on? Now, I'm going to let it continue. Yeah, I think it's time to go into actionable items. Now, that is where all the scrutiny started. Now, I'm going to play this in full, because I want you all to see this. This is not AI. This is actually Sean Carter talking about how we move past kneeling. I think we've passed kneeling.

Now, remember how the NFL was treating the black community, especially where all the social injustice going on. and bringing Jay-Z on the headline to entertainment. And the way he's talking right now, as far as stopping the kneeling and continuing with the program as usual, in that moment of time, it was not the greatest thing to say. Yeah, I think it's time to go into actionable items. So as far as actionable items, I know that was an 11-second clip.

The rest of it is just him talking about his partnership with the NFL. I think the reason why people are so upset with Jay-Z is not only because of that, but then you have previous things in the past as far as how he's went about certain maneuvers to raise up his rock nation artists. And that rubs some people the wrong way. Now, of course, I could bring up Megan the Stallion and Tori Lanes, but I'm not going to because I don't want to dive in detail because I'm trying to lay it out in total. So the stopping the whole stop the nilling movement that's when the scrutiny really started to happen for Jay-Z Because if you don't know there was really a whole Jay Z versus Colin Kaepernett Type of like campaign going on back then so when that happened and then of course you have a lot of rock nation artists that seemingly get the benefit of the doubt Especially in the legal system and then when you see them go at certain influencers in the space

and the manner of how they go at influencers in the space is very peculiar to the point where you say to yourself, how much power does Rock Nation have in the music industry? So that's where all the scrutiny started. I just wanted to pinpoint exactly when it started. So when Jay-Z took over for the NFL entertainment, those questions started to arise. Megan the Stallion didn't help out any, you know,

she didn't really help out when it came to that whole situation. and now a lot of people are just wondering how much power does Rock Nation have? Keep in mind, I haven't even brought up the Harvey Weinstein situation. Shepherd. I'm not far. I even bring it up.

So I'm just letting y'all know. There's a lot of things that a lot of people are pointing at as far as wanting more questions answered. So for me personally, I believe Jay-Z has gotten himself to a point where he's one of the most, if not the most influential figure in hip-hop. whenever he says it goes the title deal he told y'all to sell y'all sold and then sold it to the the NFL deal he told you all to stop kneeling and then sold it to and um basically i can keep going but you know when it comes to jZ he's very powerful man whatever he says goes right

and i think after the first second third time of getting that off a lot of people start to realize like hold up now you know we do like to support black figures in the industry but is their actual power being misused because of how much they have you know and it brings me back to a lot of things especially with not only the business deals of jZ with NFL of course you have the title deal that he sold off of course you have um with the NFL deal is currently still going but when you look at jZ's uh signese, whether it's a Rihanna, y'all don't want me, y'all definitely don't want me bring that back up.

When it comes to Rihanna, as far as how she signed, and her disappearance from music is soon, and she found something else to replace that revenue, very interesting. Kanye, you can't really like, Kanye just kind of, he's kind of on the deep end. You know, you got to handle Kanye with, like, kid gloves, pause, you know what I'm saying? You guys. See, that's the problem. So it's just a lot of things in the underlings of Jay-Z's Rock Nation that's very interesting in the grand scheme of things. But the main thing I wanted to do was just point that out to showcase why some people may throw a lot of scrutiny at Jay-Z's way.

Now, anyways, getting back into the Roots Pignette. So I'm very interested to see how Jay-Z performs, especially with this being such a huge, gap in between live performances. I'm pretty sure he's probably practicing by himself in the bedroom in the mirror while having Beyonce judge or something like that. But at the end of the day, he has been out of the live performance game for quite some time. Breath control is a real thing when you're rapping. Jay-Z's one of the greatest rappers of all time.

So I don't doubt that he's going to go out and kill him. But I'm pretty sure he's practicing behind the scenes because he hasn't been on the live staging in quite some time. and he hasn't needed to you know especially with his deals with NFL and you know don't don't forget that he sold 50% of the arman

armand arm i can't even say it's that's how you know some luxury brand the armand the brinac hey the ace of spades he sold 50% of that to lvmh in 2021 a majority of duce cognate to

bickard in 2023 which helped doubled his billionaire their network. So shout out to Jay-Z for be one of the greatest business minds we've ever seen in hip-hop. Because at first glance, you may think like this is like a segment to go at Jay-Z or anything. I'm just laying it

out eight more than 92 and letting y'all do what you will with the facts, right? So now, the bottom line is the Roots Picnic doing a complete 180 as far as seeing the reception of 2025, which was just last year,

how people wanted their refund, Of course, you can't control the weather, but of course, the bad communication. The, oh, I didn't even get into the no chairs. I was like, hold on now. I mean, technically, I guess you could bring your own chairs, but apparently the accessibility was an issue. As far as no chairs, hazards for the disabilities, it was just a lot of safety concerns because of the rain. And it seems like it's really revolving around nature. but of course when you look at

W for hip hop to showcase even if we don't get it right the you know the root picnic it's been around for a minute like let's not act like they just you know just started like if you actually look at the roots picnic they've had such a monumental rise i mean legendary um not only do they you know of course the roots in general it's just a legendary hip-hop band but when it comes to the uh the roots picnic in general they've been around for quite some time founded in 2008 18 years running as of 2026 of course started as a one-day festival expanded to two days in the late 2010s. I mean, so they've been around for a minute. So when they have one bad year,

it's not good to just be like, oh, trash that conference. I'm going to something else, right? I love how they came back, made a lot of maneuvers to showcase, obviously, it's an upgraded experience so that people who wanted their refunds last year, because it was atrocious, they probably would go this year because, I mean, Jay-Z's there. Like, come on now. So I But that being said, strong emphasis on Philadelphia artists like they usually have a celebration of hip hop culture. So at the end of the day, I'm so glad I was able to cover this because, you know, me who covered the entire industry. You know, over here at notorious mass effect, we covered the entire gaming and music IPs that notoriously effective masses. But when it comes to Jay-Z, I mean, you've seen the banner for notorious mass effect.

I mean, we put in misrespect on Jay-Z's name. it's just a nostalgic nod to his origin so the people who was around where michael jordan was winning his rings you know what i'm saying shepherd my phone i ain't mean to call your old but basically that's that's where the style came from so um and you know him changing in back to this is basically because of the 30th anniversary which is a huge deal um you really don't see this type of longevity and hip hop at all so um i It was basically it.
