Starting point is 00:00:04 Did y'all know that J.I.D. switches his flow 113 times on his latest album, God Does Like Ugly. But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip hop. Like, what's going on? And then that is equivalent to one flow switch for every 16.6 seconds. But then, you know what I'm saying? So, ladies and gentlemen, the main reason why I said that at the beginning of my coverage of his latest album is to let you know now only from an analytical perspective is this man insane when it comes to his rhyme scheme but also i have listened to this entire body of work and what i would tell you is i believe every single time a rapper who's not or maybe a fan who's not aware of jd hear his music they'd probably be listening thinking to themselves i know that ain't who i think it is because ultimately jid did have a lot
Starting point is 00:01:04 of pushback as far as him being under germane and of course getting overshadowed by other artists under the Dreamville mantra. But I believe when it comes to JID, he may just be getting his just due because of course I say all at the time that quality does not correlate to actual sales. But sometimes it does. You know, sometimes you can have high consumption and still put up high quality, but it is not automatically mean just because you say. sell the most that you're making the best product. Looking at his latest album, of course, it's
Starting point is 00:01:39 out now in all DSPs, 15 tracks, 57 minutes in length. And of course, like I said earlier in the segment, I've already listened to the entire body of work. So all I got to say is I really like the album. For me, I believe when your lyric is harder to come up with melodic choruses because you're so stuck on switching it up every single time to let people know you can rap. When making a melody and ultimately trying to get into that melodic lane, people like certain sounds that they've heard before. So sometimes you've got to put that creativity to the side as a lyricist to come up with a phenomenal chorus. So now, I believe that's the crossroads that a lot of people who rap find themselves stuck at because do they want to impress people with showing, uh, show you
Starting point is 00:02:29 showcasing they can rap or do they want to make palatable music that people can put on replay or put on repeat um day in day out right and i feel like j i did a phenomenal job at finding that middle ground as tracks like i think escape is sk8 so i'm pretty sure escape so that particular track showcases that he can make more of a more of a replayable anthem that sonically pleads into the ears and And then of course, one of the tracks, I forget which one it was. Like I said, I've only listened to this entire thing twice. I don't think it was wholeheartedly. It was one of them. Was it K word? No, it wasn't that one. I think it was on McCaffey.
Starting point is 00:03:15 I'll have to listen to this a little bit more. But skate definitely was a standout to me. Obviously, I already know work was already on there as far as a single. Trying to see. There was another track. Of Blue, I really like. All McCaffian of Blue and Skate, I think, with the standouts to me as of right now. Obviously, I'm just two listens in.
Starting point is 00:03:37 There's a plethora of flows to dissect, so of course it could change by the day. But ultimately, Skate is one of the main standouts for me because of the fact that I was wondering if he was going to be able to pull off giving something that's sonically pleasing while also being able to showcase that he's one of the nicest rappers in the game. I mean, really a top-tier technician when it comes to him putting words together, putting on a masterclass because time and time again, I come on this podcast and let y'all know that J.I.D. is one of the best rappers I've ever heard. And of course, because of his music mate not being as pleasing to some people ears,
Starting point is 00:04:15 they don't want to hear the diff and flow switch every 1.5 seconds or whatever the stat was, I just said. The track with offset showcased that not only, only can you have a club anthem, but you can also have JID on it because whenever people see JID, they just automatically think it's going to be some lemon pepper freestyle. It's going to be some clips, you know, drawn out same rhyme scheme, not to discredit the clips because they do that phenomenal, but most people don't. The same rhyme scheme over a club type beat, like nobody's trying to hear all of these triple
Starting point is 00:04:54 quadruple entendres while we're trying to throw money. at any club, right? J.I.D. On Body showcased that you could be a lyrical technician and still make it sonically pleasing to the ears and make it plausible to have a club anthem with a lyricist on it. So obviously we already know that, but, you know, of course, in the land of hip-hop, people already say, and, you know, of course, you know, my favorite artist is, is, is, uh, obstacle when it comes to this thinking. But of course, he basically says, that with Kendrick and his quadruple entendres he's going to have a lot of girls out here
Starting point is 00:05:31 twerking with a dictionary or whatever so you know there's that type of ignorant thinking that leads people to believe that these lyricists can't get palatable music they think they're just lyrical miracle spiritual you to death right uh the track with jd and m ando that's also one of the standouts as far as a lyrical performance i'm just basically throwing out some of the best lyrical performances i've heard from jd bodies is one of them because it's showcased that he could still have that masterclass lyricism over a club anthem and make it sound sonically pleasing. Eminem and J.I.D. is another one. Not the, not the animals track. The track called Fuel off of Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Fuel showcased that J.I.D. can hang with any rapper on planet Earth. Both of those rappers left planet Earth with their verses. JID keeping up with M&M with M&M rapping like that should showcase the level of respect I put on JID's pin and the way he respects the craftsmanship of putting words together. So anyways, well, all that glazed out of the way,
Starting point is 00:06:43 you know what I'm saying? Getting back into DePree release before this album, he did have an EP titled, God does not like ugly. I do not believe, I don't think I covered that one. yeah because that one was a pretty short i'm not saying i didn't like it but ultimately i don't know why he put that out like he had m&m on it i would have just saved that for the album but ultimately he's probably like i have an m&m feature let me just put down the EP because that could carry the whole
Starting point is 00:07:10 epi so he had the behold new better with little yaddy uh lisa eliza with us a black and the animals part one with m&M now that's interesting i just realized there's animals part one but you would think that part two would be somewhere on the main project and i listened to the entire project there was no animals part two maybe animals part two is for m&m's album anyways um that essentially is 16 tracks in length uh four tracks in total as far as his prelux but before the god does like an ugly album him putting out these four tracks july fourth of this year and then putting out the entire body of work August 8th
Starting point is 00:07:57 showcases that he's put a lot of time and effort into this rollout. He's given us a lot of tracks to dissect and basically come to the understanding that he is one of the nicest lyricists that we've heard in the minute. And of course, I say that we'll all do respect to the other rappers out there, but nobody is really
Starting point is 00:08:14 putting and pinning verses like J.I.D. and hip-hop. So that being said, click my link, tree, my bio. Let me know. one of my social medias what do you think about j id's latest album titled god titled god does like ugly if you've heard it already what is your favorite track and do you think that jid is one of the best rappers in hip-hop
