Now, the artist I'm about to get into is a prime example of how sales don't always equal quality.
Because sometimes getting into the notorious mass effect, pun intended, the main reason why I have to clarify that a lot is because we're getting into a lot of objective metrics on this podcast, right?
The whole show is about talking about who impacts the masses.
But of course, that leads me to reiterate the sentiment of just because you sell a lot does not mean you have the highest quality product.
And just because you don't sell a lot doesn't mean that you're putting out subpar product.
The two don't correlate.
Sometimes it does as far as high quality equal high sales.
But most of the time is not equivalent, right?
So might put out something that's supremely trash and it be the most popular album or the most popular single.
So the reason why I'm saying that is because getting into one of my favorite lyricists in the game of hip hop, J.I.D.
He is, well, his last album, The Forever Story, extended version, came out October 31st, 2020.
And that was the last full-length project we received from J-I-D.
Now, phenomenal rapping, double, triple, quadruple entendre set to the side.
it sold around 27 to 30,000 first week.
Not a terrible number, but of course, this man is currently under Dreamville slash
Interscope.
So when it comes to Germain and his marketing rollouts for his musicians, let's just say,
analytically is not impacting that a lot.
So when I'm looking at the quality level that is top tier lyricism that's coming from J.I.D.
and then also looking at the consumption as far as the objective metrics is not adding up to me as far as why he's not stream more.
I know people be like, oh, I'm not trying to listen to that lyrical miracle spiritual type rap.
But at the end of the day, JID does have some tracks that also is more of a replayable track where he dumps down the lyrics to fit the average consumer.
Right.
So that being said, getting into his analytical accomplishments,
after i let you know that his latest single work is out now on all dsps that is titled w rk so if you
type in w o rk which is you know actually how the word word is pronounced or spelled out you
it would not pop up you have to type in the work without the oh so w rk i don't know why rappers
do that but they make it supremely difficult to find their track so w rk by jd is out now
and it's his latest single that came out april well came out today
right and i would assume it could be a leader to his album depending on the consumption because if you
don't know if you're under a label and you don't sell well as far as your last project they're
going to try to do certain marketing tactics to bubble up the anticipation for your next
release as far as a project prime example last year looking at the billboard statistics and
analytics as far as last year his best performing track was with their white hope of hip-pop as far as
M&L. Now the great white hope of hip hop gave JID his highest charting track ever as far as billboard.
Entering at number 25 and I'll always go back to that fuel track as far as the epitome of what it sounds like to have two top tier lyrics going back and forth on a beat.
JID and M&M completely verbally mutilated.
that be as the words that they was putting together just showcase the masterclass on how to
rap in this sport we call hip hop now of course at this point you probably already know i
listen to the track work and it's phenomenal so getting back into my sentiments of j i think he puts out
high quality music but because of what i said previously in this segment i do believe sometimes
people who rap well or not even rap well but some people sometimes people who put out high quality music
don't get high quality consumption as far as the masses.
And that's okay.
I feel like at the end of the day,
you should just try to put out the best product
and let the chips fall where it may
because in this game, in the music industry,
there's a lot of smoking mirrors,
and they press the button on who they want to press the button on.
So sometimes they'll make something the most popular album,
and the quality level came and come close to your worst body of work
or your worst track, but that's just how the game goes.
So I think if you put out something that you're proud of, I think that's the main W that you should find within yourself.
Should not look for external validation because then you'll probably start to deteriorate your music so that it could be consumed more by the masses.
Not to say the masses only gravitate towards low quality music.
I'm just saying that if you're trying to fit the scheme and the BPM and the constructing factor of,
what a hit sounds like, then your quality level may take a toll because that's not authentically
you.
I like how J.I.D. sticks to his lane of putting words together at a phenomenal rate as far as
having all type of callbacks, double, triple entendres, carefully crafted versus to the point
where he's telling the story or he's getting a point across and every line adds to the previous
line, right? Instead of punching in, punching out, doing a freestyle that the,
subject matter is God knows what, right?
So ultimately, I do believe work is a phenomenal track, which is the latest single by JID.
Hopefully it performs well on the charts.
History will say it will not, but him having Jermaine in his pocket, him having the track
fueled by M&M showcasing him to a different audience and a phenomenal showcase as you
showcase your rapping ability to the highest degree hanging with.
with what some people will call one of the greatest rappers ever do it.
So I would highly suggest you listen to that track fuel if you want to know how great of a lyricist
is JID is because I think the litmus scale for a rapper is when he gets on the track with
another rapper and is able to elevate because it's almost like in the basketball sense
stepping on the court on somebody who's highly critically acclaimed to be one of the best
in that sport and you stick with them
throughout the entire match, right?
Not to say he had a better verse on fuel
because Eminem also went crazy.
But I'm just saying those two brothers
but those two gentlemen
because you know Eminem's white.
But those two gentlemen
made a phenomenal showcase
on how taking the craft seriously
will sound over a beat.
So anyways, with that being said,
the track work is out now on all DSPs.

What do you think about JID and his status in the music industry?
And do you believe JID deserves more shine because of the high,
the consistent rate of high quality bars he gives out?
