The Seasible rapper Charles Jones known as Julio Fulio shot and killed in Tampa.
Thank you for joining us tonight.
I'm Riley Phillips.
The rapper was celebrating his 26th the birthday.
This happened outside a holiday inn.
If you could take a look at this video, you can see.
Personally, I want to say rest and peace to Julio Fulio and condolences to his family and friends.
Also, if you're not a true hip-hop fan, you have to have.
to click off this segment because somebody, well someone like myself who's passionate about hip
pop, there's conversations that needs to be had, but if you just come and go in this thing called
hip hop, you may not understand. So with that being said, let's get back into Julio Fulio and how he
tragically was shot and killed in a hotel parking lot in Tampa. Also, analytic dreams video on Spotify
to see the video along with the audio because they are currently showing shots from the crime scene
and shots as far as camera footage from the crime scene.
The rapper was celebrating his 26th birthday.
This happened outside a holiday in.
If you could take a look at this video, you can see the bullet holes riddling the front
of the windshield of this car.
It's unclear if Fulio was in this car when it was shot up.
On your side, Zach Wilcox joins us live now with more details on the shooting.
and Zach, Fulio was a big name in Jacksonville's drill rap scene.
Yeah, that's right, Riley. Fulio had 40 or dozens of different videos on YouTube and 45 million views on one of the videos, millions on others.
So he's big in Jacksonville's rap scene. He was also a frequent face on our newscast for his connection with violence around Jacksonville over the past few years.
I counted seven different articles that we published on our website since 2019 where Fulio was referenced in them.
three times that we've covered. He's been shot before once grazing his leg, another time
while he was over in Houston, and another time in his foot. So I wanted to touch base, though,
with our First Coast News crime and safety analysts about all of this. We did find out from
Fulio's attorney that he was in Tampa celebrating his birthday, been at an Airbnb that they rented.
They exceeded occupancy at that Airbnb, which is when they left and went toward the holiday.
And from Tampa Police's report, we know that he was killed there along with three other victims
who were taken to the hospital for treatment there and that there were two cars that they found with bullet holes as well in that parking lot.
I talked with our First Coast News, Crime and Safety Expert, just about what this means for Jacksonville's Sheriff's Office and if there's any possibility of violence moving forward.
I think it only fuels it somewhat and somebody will step up and take his place and they see how successful he might have been and how much money he was making.
You know, you end up copying him a little bit and carrying on his image a little bit.
So I'm going to stop it right there as the biggest thing I wanted to touch on is what he just previously stated.
As hip hop is one of those things where a lot of non-law-abiding citizens gets to be financially incentivized to continue the way that they act and behave.
and with that being said, the biggest thing with Julio Fulio is that if you're going to keep supporting certain type of music and you're a true hip-hop fan, you either have to charge it to the game or stop supporting these type of artists.
Because let's not act like there's not things that preceded this event that could have led up.
to it that could have led up to this ultimate conclusion and that's one of the hardest things to
say as a hip-hop cover because there's a lot of hypocrisy that goes on throughout hip-hop and as far as
mine as far as my interest in hip-hop it lies within a lot of things but as far as the
glorifying certain acts of violence and as far as glorifying certain criminal
to come home or go out into the public world.
It has to be pointed out because that's not something I got into hip hop for.
But I do acknowledge that hip hop is the place for a lot of non-law-abiding activities to go on.
This industry is not one of morals and values.
It's not one that you get into to find God.
Let's just say that.
it's more of a situation where you're struggling with certain things,
non-law-abiding activities included, and you're still accepted.
Hip-hop is one of the more accepting music genres when it comes to your lifestyle,
not being in correlation with the law.
I don't know how many different times I have to reiterate that,
but the biggest thing you need to know is that what I'm saying right now is hard to hear
for some and going to be completely ignored by others because if you're going to completely
just put aside some of the things that could have led up to this event then we don't need to be
having this conversation but somebody who's passionate in hip-hop which i would say is myself included
have to say the harsh truth while also being respectful so that's why i started off the segment
the way that I did, but I also want to let people know in hip hop that if you're going to support,
and you know what type of music I'm talking about, you know, let's not just act oblivious.
I would say specific tracks, but I don't want to pinpoint any artists and connect them to
the situation that happened. Because popular songs, which also has braggadocious bars,
talking about non law abiding acts done to other rappers.
And then it getting popularized to the point where it's played at the gym
when you're shooting hoops with your friends.
Like the upliftment of certain tracks that's bragging about taking certain
non-law abiding acts towards other rappers is why we get events like this.
So those harsh truths is something that.
that a lot of hip hop fans don't want to hear because of course we just want to act like we're all
anti-violence we're all always for the community because that's why we uplift certain hip-hop or all
hip-hop artists certain hip-hop artists have to be gate kept we have to have that this is why
gatekeepers are important certain type of music perpetuates certain activities and it's not just
only these type of artists.
There's other artists who also rap about certain things
that's not law-abiding.
But the biggest thing is to speak out about it.
If you're not going to speak out about it,
and if you're going to highlight their music,
share the music, follow the artist
who's making the music, giving him financially,
making it financially incentivized,
for him to keep perpetuating this type of activity then these type of occurrences all you can say is
condolences to your family and friends because at the end of the day these type of acts happen
regardless if they don't have certain tracks attached to it but when you do have tracks
attached to it that's perpetuated and uplifted by the masses and
highlighted and glorified by the masses, then their occurrence of these events happen more frequently.
So that's what I want to say.
Because of course, violence is going to happen regardless, but certain type of music
makes it happen more frequently than if this type of music didn't exist.
And the reason why I'm talking in such broad scope when I'm talking about certain music
that's perpetuated or highlighted, because if you don't.
know what I'm talking about then you probably don't navigate hip hop industry too often right as far as to
hip hop music but that's why I said at the beginning for hip hop fans that comes and go you can just
click off because you won't even know what I'm talking about but for those who do you know
that type of music that everybody wants to um everybody wants to do a copycat type of rea
imagining of this type of music coming to the scene, get a lot of money, talk about spending
on the ops, and then when events like this happens, all we can say at the end of the day is
rest and peace. So I'm not going to get into the situation anymore, well, as far as this
Julio Fulio situation, because I'm going to talk about another artist, but I'm going to do it in a
separate segment because obviously if obviously you'll be able to put the pieces together but somebody
has to point out certain things that's um highlighted in certain tracks so that's what i'm going to do
with my next segment and if you put the puzzle pieces together then hey congratulations to you
because i'm not saying i'm dj vlad but all i'm saying is i advocate for criminals to be locked up
I am a hip hop fan at the end of the day, but whenever certain acts are just out in public and there's no repercussions for it, then that is where I draw my line.
Like at some point, people who commit violent acts time and time again have to be locked up and in jail.
but as far as this particular case, I'm handling it as respectful as I can because somebody passed away.
And that's somebody being Julio Fulio, whose real name was Charles Jones.
And once again, he was shot and killed in a hotel parking lot in Tampa.
Early Sunday morning at a holiday inn in Uptown, Tampa like you just heard in the video.
And as far as him celebrating his 26th birthday, we can clearly see he was taken away too soon.
So that being said, click my link to your bio.
And let me know in one of my social media is, what is your takeaway from this occurrence?
And do you think because of certain type of music highlighted by the masses that this type of event happens more frequently?
