Starting point is 00:00:00 Shameless plug for analytic dreams video on my Spotify channel just to see the video elements of what I'm about to cover because Laura knows a lot of things that comes with this reviewer Reviewing of music is trying to educate the masses in a way that's consumable I don't know if that's a word, but that's what we're gonna go with because I try to break this down into simple terms because K-pop has been taken over of course is one of the more popular genres that's been crossing over into the states already popular from where they're from of course and it's like if you know the artist burner boy it has that similar type of appeal to the states
Starting point is 00:00:43 everybody's wondering how do they get so popular and how do they look the way they do because some of the music videos they shoot not going to lie to you they don't need no backup dancers because these guys be dancing themselves like they are professional dancers as this at this point the way that they be having their music choreography set up. So what am I talking about, right? Jungmo, aka Ku Jungmo from Cravity, which if you don't know, Cravity is a K-pop group. Jungmo is a member from that K-pop group.
Starting point is 00:01:21 And the group consists of nine members, and Jungmoe is a vocalist. while focusing on him, it's because they just released the track titled cheese. Yes, the track is titled cheese. So if you look up Jungmo cheese, it may not pop up. So you have to type in gravity, well, gravity, that's going to be so hard to mix up, but you have to type in gravity cheese for it to pop up. So basically, Jungmo has put out a new track title cheese, of course, under Starship Entertainment. And for those of y'all that don't know who Starship Entertainment is, is one of the big dogs over in Korea as if you're talking about K-pop, you're probably going to run into the label Starship Entertainment
Starting point is 00:02:11 because a South Korean Entertainment Company founded in 2008, and it's currently an independent subsidiary of Kekayo, Kakaio. I don't know to say that, I ain't going to lie. Kau Entertainment, I would say KKKK, but you had another one. and now I'm again uncomfortable. So anyways, Starship is one of the five major agencies in the K-pop industry along with SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, Y-G Entertainment, Y-G Entertainment, Y-YP Entertainment, and Big Hit Entertainment. The reason why that's a big deal is because some of the biggest artists you know in K-pop, whether it's a Black Pink, whether it's a
Starting point is 00:02:49 BTS, they are all signed to one of these five major agencies in the K-pop industry. and I'm not trying to crush anybody dreams out there, but there's a reason why all of these groups and artists when they branch off or having success because they're under these major agencies. If you're independent, just know you can't match the major label dollar, and that's very important to know. Not saying you should give up, just know if you want to get to certain heights,
Starting point is 00:03:22 major labels may have to come into play when it comes to distribution because to get your music on playlist, such as Spotify, Apple Music, you may need subsidiaries like a Starship Entertainment to get you on those platforms. Now that we got that out of the way, of course, Cravity is pretty popular in a K-pop space themselves as the reason why they even went with the word, gravity, because of course, you're thinking of gravity when you think of gravity is kind of confusing. but it's a combination of words creativity and gravity see makes a little a little simpler i guess and then you know the whole goal of the group is to bring people together with their unique charm and creativity of course i'm the PR team probably wrote but where it really started to take off was in april 14th 2020 when he put out the first album hideout remember who we are and if i was to go to the
Starting point is 00:04:21 go to their discography you was see they're kind of new on the space as they just started putting out music in 2020 so they have albums gravity uh liberty and our cosmos that came out 2022 and then they have 2021 album the awakening written and the stars and you're probably wondering well where is the album that you just um said when you're talking about hideout remember who we are so that i feel like well not feel like it was it is that came out in January 9th, January 19th, 2021. So they put out an EP and hideout. And then they put out two albums after that, just in different parts.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Like on some Infinity War and End Games type beat, they put out the awakening written in the stars. And then for part two, they put out Liberty and Our Cosmos. And why am I telling you all this? It's because specifically the South Korean, you know, demo, I feel like they've been very, persistent and supportive with the whole coverage of K-pop artists. So I feel like it's my duty, I guess, to give it in a way that's tangible and a lot of people will be able to understand, like simplistic terms when talking about these complex musicians, because the way they blow up is not as simple as, not as simple as, oh, I just make good
Starting point is 00:05:48 music. It's never as simple as that when it comes to the music industry. You always need some type of unit, some type of tool to market you and put you out to the masses. So anyways, that was a rise to fame. And they quickly became one of the most popular K-pop groups in the world winning a numerous awards, right? You haven't heard of them, but they're out here winning awards, which is to show you. The world is a big place. And sometimes you should get outside of your bubble to try and understand different cultures
Starting point is 00:06:17 and the people who's popular from those cultures because it gives you a more worldly perspective. when you come to talk about music. So anyways, like I said, Cravity is one of the most popular K-pop groups in the world, winning a lot of awards like Rookiee at a Year at the 2020 M-Net, M-NAT Asian music awards,
Starting point is 00:06:35 and they're known for their energetic performances, catchy songs, you know, stuff the PR team puts out. But like I said, a lot of these K-pop groups, they can dance. And the way that they put out music, they be performing performance. So it's not just, oh, we're going to sing and then dance. now we sing and why are we dancing and it's going to look like boys demand k-pop edition so anyways um
Starting point is 00:07:00 gravity is set to release the third mini album sometime in 2023 and we'll continue to keep putting our music of course you know that's what they all say and then um with this particular single with jung mo i think it's pretty interesting because of course he would started trending as soon as the track came out i think it's one of those things where if you don't have real worldwide appeal, you will not trend in the states. The reason I'm saying that is because even for RIAA, right, you have to have like 10 million streams in the states to even be considered for platinum. But let's say you have 10 million streams overseas. It has to have, you have to have at least 10 million in the state. So you could be as popular as you want overseas, but for RIAA certification, which is what a lot of these artists want when it comes to going gold, platinum, diamond, you have to have streams in the states.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Subsidiaries, major agencies like Starship Entertainment, would be able to give you that type of exposure. So that's why I'm even covering this as I feel like a lot of people sometimes want to know about artists who's making noise outside of the states and just outside of. our normal realm of hip hop and just know that has the effect on the hip hop as they see the competition coming and so they will start collabing with these type of musicians i mean you just saw um you just saw j cole with hope i believe hope from bt s you see j cole hope yeah j cole put out a track with j hope from bt s titled on the street if you don't think that's some type of oh what notice in the them blowing up overseas and in the States, let's try to collaborate with them.
Starting point is 00:08:56 They're doing that for a reason. It's not because J-Co just found, you know, goodness in his heart to give an upcoming K-pop artist a feature. He sees them doing numbers. He wants to collab and be the first one to stamp that artist, that musician, because he's blown up. Happens all the time in hip-hop, but you got to be more cognizant of the music industry for overseas artists to get that time.
Starting point is 00:09:21 type of stamp because it's not that's not normal that's definitely not normal but it's not like he's doing it out of the goodness of his heart these uh k-pop artists are making waves and american artists are starting to acknowledge it especially of the likes of j koa so anyways if you want to listen to that track you have to type in uh gravity and then cheese so gravity cheese and then it should pop up but anyways that's that's basically that for my k-pop coverage as always for my k-pop fans out there or just my South Korean fans out there who keep supporting time and time again when I cover one of your artists, make sure to click my link to your bio and let me know in one of my social medias.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Who is an artist you will want me to cover? And also, what is something that you believe that us American listeners need to know about K-pop music industry in general? Also, make sure to give this track a listen. once again, gravity cheese, and let me know if, you know, you'll have to give it some time, of course, but let me know if it's fire or trash.
