Join Here: https://ow.ly/msoH50WCu0KIn this segment of Notorious Ma...ss Effect, Analytic Dreamz dives deep into Kirby Air Riders on Nintendo Switch 2. Directed by Masahiro Sakurai, this exclusive sequel to the 2003 GameCube classic launched November 20, 2025, as a complete, non-live-service title with no DLC planned. Post-launch support ends soon after a final balance patch following Version 1.2.0, which adjusted every kart, one rider, and fixed bugs. Sakurai confirmed the team will disband, aiming for lasting balance.Sales show regional contrasts: Japan dominated with #1 retail debut at 195,594 physical copies (Famitsu), strong Week 2 performance, and top eShop rankings fueled by Kirby loyalty and heavy marketing. US digital charts placed it high alongside major titles, reflecting digital strength. UK/Europe lagged at #12 boxed launch, impacted by $70 pricing, large download, crowded window, and spin-off positioning.Early global estimates exceed 300,000 units, projecting 2-4 million lifetime—surpassing the original's 1.35 million. Featuring 20+ riders/machines, 18 tracks, modes like City Trial (16-player online), Road Trip roguelike, and 750 challenges, it earned solid reviews (Metacritic 78, user 9.0) for depth and multiplayer. Now here I am thinking to myself, is Kirby the neglected stepchild of Nintendo?
And, you know, after some extensive research, safe to say, I still haven't found the answer to my question.
Shepard, just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
Now, all jokes aside, when I first dove into Kirby Air Riders, which we're getting into today, as far as the review and sales round up,
because of course this particular game when it initially came out November 23rd 2025
safe to say well no no they came out November 20th 2025 safe to say I was extremely perplexed
on how they could come out and basically say ladies and gentlemen this is it you guys
see that's the problem as if you don't know what I'm referring to
Sokari, a Sakara, Sakurai, I think it's, Sokare, I don't know, man, I totally, one of those is right. One of those pronunciations is right. So anyways, Sakurai, that's what I'm gonna call him. He basically came out and said, now this game is in this complete state. I was thinking to myself, hold on now. Usually you have some type of roadmap for any game that comes out because of the support that you're probably gonna garner. Because safe to say, I know Kirby may not be the Mario or the
Pokemon or the Zelda's of the world, but you know, it still has a respective, a respectful fan base as far as
them being respected and also them being very respectful of the Kirby IP. So I was thinking to myself,
why in the world will they not give a overall roadmap to like a racing game? You would think that would be
definitely fitting for this type of game, right? But safe to say, Sakura, a Sakurai did not think the same,
as he basically came out and if you don't know this is the director right and the kirby franchise creator so let's not you know he put a misrespect on his name this is no we're not disperging his name in the slightest i'm just completely confused as no d oc pipeline exists right and so he came out and said the team will disband in the near future and the goal is to quote final balance that can be enjoyed even years from now end quote
So clap it up for that.
That's not the worst quote in the world, right?
It's not like the borderlands dev that basically came out and said,
create your own engine, you know what I'm saying?
All right, my fault.
I didn't mean to throw his name in there.
So anyways, when it comes to this particular game,
safe to say, even though it just launched, like literally last month,
as far as, well, specifically November 20, 2025,
and it was a Nintendo Switch to Exclusive.
When you look at the revenue,
and of course, when you look at this game,
being developed by Bandai Namco and Sora published on Nintendo for exclusively the Nintendo Switch 2,
safe to save is an immensely successful project.
As if you compare it to his predecessor, right, the original Kirby Air Rider, you come to realize
that not only did the Kirby Air Rider game sell out, I'm trying to see if I actually have it
right here.
Yeah, not only did the original Air Rider game have,
1.3 million in sales but compared to this particular game as far as the updated version safe to say
the lifetime sales are projected to overtake that so that's the success in itself right and while i was
talking about that i was literally looking it up i was like i know this is in my notes anyways um so
there's estimated global early sales of 300 000 right currently if you didn't know it's the second
most play game on nintendo now that could change mario cart is number one Pokemon
is number three and Kirby Air Riders is sitting around 288,000 lifetime copies Mario
Pokemon well no let's not combine it to Mario has 2.3 lifetime copies as of right now
Mario Kart World and Pokemon Legends Zah Nintendo Switch 2 edition or Z-a depending on how you want
pronounce it um it's sitting around 862 000 lifetime sales so basically what I'm saying is and that's
the Nintendo Switch 2 edition the original version or just
the Nintendo Switch version of Pokemon Legends is around 1.3 million lifetime copies.
So basically, Mario and Pokemon will overtake Kirby on the charts at some point.
But Kirby is still having a respectful stature on the charts when it comes to Nintendo.
So when you look at the lifetime projection of this particular game,
compared to the 2003 original Kirby Airwriters,
it's doing phenomenal.
As the lifetime projections for this Kirby Airwriters is set for two to four.
million units and their original Kirby Air Riders back in 2003 had a lifetime sales of 1.3 million.
So shout out to them for actually making a successful continuation of the Kirby Air Riders franchise.
As you already know, Kirby out here racing, Sonics out here racing, and basically Mario's like,
you know, we can put out any type of quality and they're nominators for a game of the year.
and not only nominators, but they'll let us win the best racing game of the year.
Shepard.
All right, my fault.
You know, I ain't trying to throw no hate towards Mario Kart fandom.
But, of course, Mario Kart World, like, we have to admit, it was not the greatest out of the continuation, out of the installments of that particular franchise.
Anyways, when it comes to the review, right?
Or not the review.
When it comes to sales, I already talked about the lifetime projections, but in Japan specifically, because of course, this is a Nintendo product.
So I wanted to dive into Japan specifically as it was the number one
Kirby Airwriters it was the number one Japan retail launch as it had a hundred and
ninety five thousand physical copies so that's that's phenomenal and then week two
it had four hundred they had forty six thousand physical copies so when I
talking about the world I just wanted to dive into Japan specifically because if you
didn't know for me particularly I've always personally and I you know I still
is towards the top of my bucket list.
I've going to Japan
and going to not only Nintendo World, I know,
I'm a nerd, don't care.
You guys.
But also going on the Mario Kart World
Lifetime replica, or not Lifetime,
the IRL, basically the real life replica of Mario Kart.
I don't know why I phrased it like that.
So going to Japan, it's towards the top of my list.
And, of course, I like the overall culture and things of that nature.
So just to let you know how encapsitated I am
by like Japan's culture.
So when it comes to Japan specifically,
we talked about those sales for Kirby Airwriters,
but of course Amazon Japan charts,
it topped that and it topped the Japan e-shop ranking.
So shout out to the fandom and Nintendo
for completely supporting Nintendo,
no matter what it puts out.
And that may sound like shade,
but it's really not.
You know, when you come to the Nintendo coat
and you realize that they would support anything
to the point where I always say,
the Nintendo dropped the price movement,
you know I had the minimum,
It's one of the worst movements of all time.
Basically, the Nintendo stands saw that Mario Kart World was one of the most egregiously
priced games known the man.
And they basically said,
They looked at Mario Kart World and they looked at their fellow gamers thinking that they was about to band together to lower the price.
And they basically said,
What they do?
And we beat he, foote we beat them.
We go forward.
And safe to say they did not go forward, as Nintendo completely kept the same thing.
completely kept the same price of Mario Carworld.
So as far as the Nintendo dropped the price movement,
one of the worst movements I've ever seen in history.
A great premise, but terrible execution, one of the worst.
To the point where when you look at the Call of Duty fans
and what they just did to Black Op 7
and May Activision rethink the whole release strategy,
I mean, shout out to them.
Now that's how you do a movement right there.
Banning together as consumers holding your dollar amount
to make the company earn your dollar
it's one of the best things you could do as a collective.
Because guess what?
When you look at any successful,
effective of the masses that basically is in the entertainment realm,
their fans is what makes them.
If their fans left, nobody would care.
It's like when the tree falls in the woods and nobody's around.
Does anybody hear it?
Of course or not.
So guess what?
If you let that tree fall in the woods and nobody attends,
guess what they're going to do next time?
You're probably going to build a fair.
They're going to have all type of attractions.
They're going to have your favorite artists,
all for the same price that they was going to charge you for watching that tree fall in the woods.
Now, hopefully, that random side comparison made sense to you.
So with that be it said, again, back into Kirby Airwriters.
There's really not too much to say about this particular game that's negative
because I think it's a solid continuation of the Kirby Airwriters franchise,
as if you don't know, like I was just talking about at the beginning,
this game will receive only one additional balance update before the development.
development support ends, right? So basically the game released, you know, via Sakurai,
how can he mess up his name? I saw I'm not doing it on purpose. Saccharis name, no, basically
Sakurai, yo, that was crazy. He came out and said that this is, this game is in his final state,
and it will receive one more adjustment patch before everybody just disbands, right? And with that being
said with original product intent i think nintendo is the greatest right a lot of its ips is some of the
most notorious ips in the world safe to say when you look at mario it has around 872 million as far as
the franchise ip Pokemon has around 489 million Zelda has 168 animal crossing 81 million and then
you know there's kirby you know lower down on the list at 52 million so it's still respectable
right so now if you not familiar of kirby air rights
at all just know it's a racing game of course 20 plus riders 20 plus machines there's 18 tracks in total
there's nine new tracks there's nine remakes and when you look at when you look at that in the overall
aspect of the original Kirby air riders safe to say that they already made a solid game when it
initially came out in 2003 but now in 2025 they added nine new
new track so they basically are saying this is technically the d oc for kirby air riders so maybe that is why
they don't have no type of roadmap for the people who really enjoy the kirby air riders game
when you look at the modes there's air ride which is six player races there's top ride there's city
trial which is 16 player online slash eight local there's a roadmap which is more of a rogue like
story mode um there's all type of challenges throughout the racing game and as far as people who have
nine to fives right the main story because there's a story right there's a story right they're
take you 90 minutes to be full completion will probably be around 50 plus hours because if you look at
it racing games don't end but if you want to continuously collect things you'll probably run out of things
to collect around the 50 plus hour mark so you know do have the information which you will when
you look at the critical reception as this is a review and sales roundup the review is an outstanding
for this particular game Nintendo life came out and gave it an eight out of 10 basically saying
Kirby Air Ride, well, saying, quote,
Kirby AirRiders is a cracking sequel that gives solo players much more to dig into with
this story campaign whilst also bringing all new levels of shiny graphics, bells, and whistles
to its returning city trial.
Air Ride and top-down racing modes.
With lots of excellent tracks, riders and machines to unlock set alongside some surprisingly deep
machine customization, Kirby's latest air riding adventures.
is off to a strong start.
Now, of course, IGE also gave it an 8 out of 10, and they said, quote,
Kirby Air Riders is totally bizarre, and I love it for that.
This is unexpected, this unexpected sequel to a niche single-button GameCube racer
makes a significant leap forward.
I'm not sure what's crazier.
The fact that Kirby Air Riders exists or the fact that it's this great.
Hang on line.
they killing it with these quotes you see other video game reviews and they just be like hey bro it's
it's all right you know check it out these are actually pretty solid um game informer gave this an
8.5 added 10 which i believe is the highest score actually yeah that's the highest score out of the
publishers that i usually look at so um game informer well no actually famitsu gave it a nine at 10
but i'm not going to say they biased because i use their charts all the time so i love y'all you know
i'm not trying but you know they gave in nine at 10 let me just say it like that um um
Game Informer gave it an 8.5 at a 10 basically saying quote Kirby air riders
Overflows with Sakharas signature style making bold creative choices even if it limits the game's appeal to a slightly
narrower audience so that being said Kirby Airwriters is a success don't let people tell you that it's not a success when you look at it in the totality of the original air riders coming that came in two
2003 basically this is a continuation they added nine new tracks when they already had nine
official tracks as far as back in 2003 so they remaster the old ones they have nine new ones so
technically you shouldn't look at this as like a completely new game with a new roadmap you should
look at this as the final complete edition of kirby airwriters as a lot of people enjoy the game
i'm not going to say that is making it like um it's not one of the best
racing games of 2025. I think Sonic Crossing, I know Sonic Racing Cross Worlds is probably up there.
I can't even think of any other racing games. I'm not trying to be funny. Probably a four
was it forza. They may be up there. I haven't really heard too much about that. But basically what I'm
saying is when it comes to the racing genre in 2025, it hasn't been the most competitive. I will
say Mario Kart World still did not deserve to win best racing racing game. I don't know what it is
with Jeff Keely and Sonic fans. I don't know if he just haste them. But I think
Sonic Racing Cross Worlds not winning.
And then Sonic 3, not even being nominated for best adaptation.
I don't know what type of beefy ass was the Sonic fans,
but somebody has to figure it out because that man does not like y'all.
Shepard, just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
You look at the state of gaming.
And I think ever since Jeff Keely called out Sonic fans for Botten, the fan vote,
they've had indefinite smoke.
So anyways, carpet air riders.
with the music right that's also a big thing as far as the marketing because of course it's
promoted across 30 plus public radio stations so do have the information which you will
because i have no idea what that does for the actual video game but apparently it's a lot of radio
stations somehow promoting this game uh maybe they're just playing the audio trailer that's why i would
assume i'd assume they're not just playing the kirby music which you know a lot of people like
kirby music so maybe that is a um a selling point so i'm trying to see if there's anything else i was
want to talk about my house basically it so yeah shout to kirby um i still respect you you know
when it comes to you being the stepchild of nintendo you know it's a little harsh at the end of day i
will come you know full circle well i would pull a 180 and basically say that you are indeed
respected by not only nintendo fans but of course gamer fans in general and to sacchari if i
messed up the pronunciation to your name just know it wasn't on purpose so that being said click my
link to you my bio let me know one of my social medias what do you think about kirby air riders and
if you played if you've played the game what is your favorite aspect of kirby air riders and
also because i don't know too many racing games that made a lot of noise what is your favorite
racing game of 2025
