Big bank usually takes little bank.
So in the case of Xbox versus PlayStation,
why is that not the same outcome for these two specific companies competing?
As when it comes to Microsoft versus Sony,
it's not even a discussion financially.
Because to quote the great Aubrey Graham,
I don't want to talk about money because it gets embarrassing.
I mean, Microsoft has an evaluation of $245 billion under its belt.
While Sony, still respectable, of course, but compared to Microsoft, Sony has $95 billion.
Now, there's a little discrepancy in Microsoft's evaluation versus Sony's evaluation.
But the main point of this segment is to talk about how is a complete 180 when it comes to the console war, which as a consumer, I do believe the console war does not help out the consumers, but nevertheless, I have to get into it as Microsoft has seemingly conceded the battle as they plan to move away from traditional consoles, opting for a unified gaming platform emphasizing cloud,
gaming and cross-platform accessibility.
Why is that?
It's because currently, with the current gen consoles, PlayStation 5 is outselling Xbox Series X-NS
4 to 1, meaning for everyone Xbox Series X or S sold, there's four PlayStation 5s.
And you know, this is not me.
This is just game data that I've researched and garnered throughout my time covering the
current gen console rates.
So PlayStation is currently, well, the PS5 is currently just running away with the current
gen metrics as far as people going out and purchasing current gen hardware to play their
games on.
So the way that Microsoft is combating that is basically waving their white flag and moving
on to having more accessibility for consumers.
Because one thing I said on my Instagram, Shameless Plug, Analytic Dreams on Instagram to
see my daily posts about the gaming and music industry.
One of the posts that went viral was me talking about how if PlayStation keeps lapping Xbox
in consoles sold that would not be in the greatest interest of the consumer.
Why is that the case?
Because if PlayStation just has a dominant hold on the consumer base and consoles, what's stopping
them from making more and more games exclusive to the console and ultimately pitting us gamers
in a difficult position of having to maybe deal with price surges because what's stopping PlayStation
from raising the prices?
Y'all have already completely decided that PS5 is the best current gen console.
So let's just raise the prices drastically and we don't have to face any backlash because
guess what?
What are you going to go to?
Xbox?
Of course not.
The player base is minimal.
I mean, one of the prime examples as far as the marketing power and the money market share is Marvel rivals.
Last time I checked, Xbox players had 3% to 4% of the entire revenue shared as far as Marvel rivals.
And of course, the rest was PC and PlayStation.
So if other developers are looking at that, they're probably thinking to themselves.
We're not making any money putting our games solely on the Xbox platform.
So let's put it on multiple platforms or let's make it exclusive for the PlayStation platform,
which is becoming more and more of a trend to the point where Microsoft had to come out and buy whole conglomerance as far as gaming development studios, such as Activision, which they literally had to go to court for it.
Because even though they have a big bank and they can afford that, the courts were trying to decide if it was a monopoly like.
tactic or not because if you have Activision then inherently you have Call of Duty and that going
exclusively to one platform isn't good for any of the consumers so they was taking the court for that
but they ultimately won stating that Call of Duty would be on Game Pass which is affordable but it
will still be on both platforms right so they got around that because technically they wasn't going
to make Call of Duty exclusive now what are they going to do if Activision puts out another first
person shooter that you know what I mean maybe plays like Call of Duty
exactly and they put it on Xbox exclusively what are they going to do then but anyways
the main purpose for the segment is talking about how Xbox has just effectively waved the
white flag and has bought into the narrative of PlayStation 5 just outselling Xbox series X and
S buy a lot by a landslide right so now they plan to move away from traditional consoles
and opt for unified gaming platform,
emphasizing cloud gaming and cross-platform accessibility.
So the concept, because once again,
I've got to take this with a grain of salt,
but a lot of people are basically coming out of the woodworks,
a lot of the insiders and saying the same thing.
The concept is a PC and a TV show,
meaning it's rumored to resemble a fixed spec gaming PC
with a TV-friendly design,
providing developers with optimized hardware targets.
Now, if Xbox ends up executing this plan like I think they're going to,
that would be a huge shift in consumer base as far as the market share between the current gen consoles.
Because now, if they put out a console that actually lets you tap into your cloud gaming
and seemingly tap more into your PC Steam library,
I think people are more inclined to get an Xbox over a PlayStation, which is why I think this move is phenomenal.
And also, Phil Spencer came out, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, and gave a statement saying,
the company's interest in moving beyond hardware limitations and providing a more flexible gaming experience is their main priority.
So that accompanying with all these rumors coming about, it kind of gives them more credence as when the former Xbox Exeastern,
executive Peter Moore stated that Microsoft would consider abandoning consoles if viable
alternatives like game streaming gained popularity.
So if the former executive keyword is former is coming out and talking about how Microsoft
has been considering these things of going console less and more into the cloud, now these
rumors are starting to come about more after the fact, after he said that like years in the past,
right?
As of today, the next installment of the Xbox franchise seems.
is going to be console less and more focus on hardware hardwire and more of a PC like platform right so if
PlayStation has to deal with that i think that would be the greatest competitor because at the end of
the day competition breeds the best out of conglomerates humans whatever um whenever competition is
present people have to rise to another level to overcome it so i think
PlayStation just running well the PS5 specifically just running away with the console war is not in the
greatest interest of the consumer because we're stopping there from raising the prices because where else you're
going to go so I think this is a great um idea from Microsoft obviously is a rumor and they did say
that the call of duty modern warfare of four was developed with the next Xbox in mind and there's
no confirmation right so just take this with a grain of salt but wanted to inform y'all that Xbox is indeed
trying to fight, right?
You know how people get beat up to the point where even the audience is screaming,
fight back?
That's basically what Xbox is at this point.
They're not winning the current gen console race.
So now let's look to the next console and what is that going to be?
Moving away from traditional consoles and going with a whole unique idea as far as emphasizing
unifying gaming platforms.
Because if you can beat them, join them.
So with that being said, currently, I mean, Xbox versus.
PlayStation in totality is more comp if you're not looking at only the current gen.
If you look at it as a whole, Xbox has received revenue around $21.5 billion, right?
PlayStation as a whole has received revenue estimated to be $32 to $34 billion.
So that's more of a comparison, right?
I think in summary, Microsoft is not even worrying about.
Sony as a financial competitor.
But when it comes to Xbox versus PlayStation, PlayStation is outperforming Xbox by quite a bit.
And because Microsoft is so vast in its income, and it streams of income being a variety
of things, I think they never really took it too serious.
But now it's getting to a point where PlayStation is just out here outlapping Xbox 4 to 1,
like I said earlier in the segment.
So now when you're looking at it, Xbox and Microsoft is coming together with a plan on how to combat this dominance that the PS5 has just exacerbated.
Right.
So with that being said, I think this is a great move.
If they're going to move away from traditional consoles and get more into the Steam Library and just pair more with Steam and PC players.
So now PlayStation is the only one playing hardball with everybody else as far as the other platforms.
I think this is the greatest move because if you can't beat them, join them, and the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and Xbox could use a couple friends in battling PlayStation.
So with that being said, click my link to share in my bio, let me know in one of my social medias.
What do you think about this rumor that Microsoft is planning to move away from traditional consoles, opting for more of a unified gaming platform, and emphasizing cloud gaming and cross-platform accessibility?
And what's your ultimate takeaway from the current state of the console?
war between Xbox Series X and PS5.
