Starting point is 00:00:03 Now, I'm not even trying to be funny, but I think the perfect follow-up to last lap is him putting out Deluxe titled First. Because honestly speaking, how many laps do we think Rod Wave can complete? Like, are we talking about laps around the kitchen table? Are we talking about laps around the track? Like, it's so many different laps that could be accomplished, right? And as far as the definition, I think there's a lot of gray area into what lap we're talking about. We're talking about the amount of plates he can fit on one lap. All right, my fault.
Starting point is 00:00:51 So, honestly, as you can tell, I'm a huge Rodway fan, as you probably couldn't even tell what I was just saying. But, you know, still, Rod Wave is very much an enjoyable. listen every single time I press play on his discography. So that being said, we have a new track. A new track that just released is titled West Side Connection. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, like you already probably assumed, it is straightfire. This man puts out nothing but he. And who broke this man's heart?
Starting point is 00:01:25 That's all I want to know. Because from the beginning of time to the current day, this man has been singing about heart break. I mean, heartbreak, anthem after anthem, after. All right, you get the point, right? So now he's back again with his baby mom breaking his heart. He's pouring out all his emotions on this track. I mean, it's about
Starting point is 00:01:48 I think it's two minutes and, I don't know how long this track is. This track is about two minutes and 43 seconds, right? So, I just didn't know who broke this man's heart because not only is he just out here one of the more successful artists as far as amongst his hip hop and rnb peers i mean he's selling out tours like he's selling out like he's not just in some little venue this man is out here having an arena tour and selling it out much larger than any of his peers right now who need help to sell out these
Starting point is 00:02:25 type of arenas on a consistent basis maybe they go on like a five six tour arena tour right which is still a significant accomplishment. We're comparing superstars to other superstars. So Rod Wave amongst his peers is just outselling them by landslide. The only ones who's really doing it bigger is the big dogs and the hip hop as far as Drake, Travis, Kendrick, Jermaine, Kanye, things of the nature. But when you look at his album Last Lap and it sold $127,000 first week debuting number two, I wonder what was number one.
Starting point is 00:03:01 well hold oh because number two usually rod wave never number two like i wonder what beat it out i'm on because i was saying maybe taylor i mean taylor just beats out everybody because she was selling a lot consistently oh it's jelly roll dang isn't it funny how jelly roll and rod wave was battling it out on the same date that's all i'm gonna say about that but anyways let's keep going so rod wave and his album last lap i think was phenomenal i don't think it was better than any of his previous bodies of work like uh beautiful scars or uh my favorite rodway project is probably soul fly yeah does he even have an album title beautiful beautifully scarred i don't think so it must have been a track oh was a beautiful mind i like beautiful mind let me see scar it was something scar with rodway rodway invisible scars
Starting point is 00:04:09 Okay, that's off the album, Soulfly. Yeah, that's my favorite album from Rodway by far. Like, I sing that whole album like as a church, like as a Negro spiritual. I know every syllable off of that Soul Fly album. Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. And that's a big, you know, that's a pretty big compliment. I ain't going to like to you. Like, I know I made all the jokes at the beginning, but I'm a huge Broadway fan.
Starting point is 00:04:34 So anyways, Rod Wave obviously, long. Well, not even launched, but he took a significant turn in his career back in 2019 with the album, Ghetto Gospel, which Hard on Ice to this day is one of the better tracks I've ever heard. As far as the music, as far as the soul put into his music, and the vocal range of Rod Wave is underappreciated, which is probably why he's selling out more arenas than majority of his peers. because if you're a singer, it's super easy to get exposed when you're live. Because now we're seeing you in person without all the effects that the engineer put on your vocals. We're seeing you, I mean, I know you could put vocals on a mic. I mean, maybe if you're Travis Scott with heavy auto tune. But for the most part, it doesn't help out when you're live, right?
Starting point is 00:05:25 You really have to be able to sing when you're live. And especially breath control with Rod Wave and the way that he's able to sing at the same level live that he is on wax as far as DSPs is considered or just, you know, tracks is considered significant accomplishment and only showcases why people come to him time and time again to listen to his music as 25 from his last project, last lap, is by far the most successful track off of that album, being the 76 most listened to track in the world and is been on the charts for about 12 weeks. So when you look at that fact,
Starting point is 00:06:11 and then you also look at Rob Wade having the 16th most popular album with Last Lap currently. Like this is not just past data. This is up to date currently on Billboard and Chart Data. 16th most played album in the world with Last Lap. And then the 76 most played track in the world with 25. You come to realize people really gravitate 20. course this man's music. No matter how many people tell him to switch up the topic and stop rapping about a singing about heartbreak, they come back time and time again to hear his top-tier
Starting point is 00:06:49 lyricism, but also soulful delivery because of his extensive vocal range. Also, Westside Connections Fire. I don't know if we're going to get an album following up this track. I think this is something he wanted to just kick off the year with because of course, with Rod Wave. Actually, let's see. don't know if he plans on an album i don't i don't think so i think he's probably going on tour i don't know if he announced it or whatever so he teased new music early 2025 and then he put out of course west side connection um he already went on a tour in 2024 and oh he's scheduled concerts into 2025 and 2026 okay so he's he's about to go on a tail he's just about to sell out arena after arena for 2025 2025 26 and then definitely uh shows his commitment to giving his fans such
Starting point is 00:07:42 an engaging live show. I mean, if you can sing, I think the live performance just got that much easier, which is not like a cop-out. Like, singing is very hard live. So if you can do that well, you don't have to have all the theatrics. Like rapping is a little different. I'm not saying everybody can rap. I'm just saying as far as singing, I think it takes more ability to do that than actually
Starting point is 00:08:04 put words together over a beat and rhyme. So anyways, for Rod Wave, he's gone on tour into 2020. until 2026, continuously hitting the road just to be in front of his fans, giving them what they came for and what they paid the hard-earned money for. So as far as West Side Connection, I really enjoyed the track. As far as Rod Wave, I'm still intrigued on the amount of laps this man can complete. So that being said, click on my link tree in my bio, let me know in one of my social media. What do you think about West Side Connection by Rod Wave?
Starting point is 00:08:39 And at the end of the day, do you ever wonder to yourself? what type of lap was rod wave talking about when he named his album last lap
