Video footage spread rapidly on X and Reddit, exposing critical security lapses.Emiru's raw X statement revealed her distress: she felt unprotected, with TwitchCon's 3-4 nearby guards failing to intervene. Her personal security pushed the attacker away, but Twitch's claim of 'immediate removal' was called a lie. Starting point is 00:00:03 Now, ladies and gentlemen, we have to get into a very serious issue. As you already know with me covering the entire gaming and music industry, there are certain stereotypes that unfortunately proves itself true time and time again. And it's the lack of accountability from the higher ups that leads to this being a reoccurring issue. You guys see that's the problem. So what we're getting into today is essentially Twitch. As if you don't know for the people over the music side who listen to my music reviews, Twitch is a live streamed platform. And as far as the gaming aspect that I cover entirely, it is primarily one of the tools for people to go live and broadcast gameplay, esports events, and of course any creative content such as IRL, if you're familiar with Kai Sinai.
Starting point is 00:01:01 that Twitch is the platform for a lot of different things along with other live streaming platforms, but for this specific segment, we're focusing on the lack of security for primarily women creators. I would say creators in general, but there seems to be an interesting issue for female creators as Valkyry came out and expressed fear over harassment and past incidents like her 2020. forest salt and i'm talking about popular creators this is not just these are not just regular creators that i'm getting into because when i lead up to this incident you're going to see why i laid this out like i did q t cinderella said that um she was in panic mode quote panic mode due to online tensions and streamer murders and canceled her appearances hasan piker said he skil
Starting point is 00:02:01 to avoid endangering others amid his political violence risk disguised toast came out and publicly announced non-attendance over general security fears and yvani opted out citing prior event harassment and safety laps asmond gold came out and urged women not to go to twitchcon mind you And he said highlighting, well, he highlighted the, he highlighted the 2024 assault and poor response. And then of course, Pockeman came out and said that she was hesitant due to tension online in inadequate measures. Now, ladies and gentlemen, as far as this particular incident, we're getting into, and specifically involved Emoryoo, which is Emily Emeru Shunk. I believe that's how you say her name, who is a Twitch streamer and a YouTube streamer.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Over 2 million followers. So she was doing a meet and greet at TwitchCon. If you don't know, TwitchCon started in 2015 in San Francisco and has been running for 10 years, which is why if you see the latest TwitchCon is a lot of 10 year anniversary type of imagery put up throughout the convention. Now, the assault that happened that definitely went viral for all. the wrong reasons if you're looking at it from Twitch's perspective but if you're looking at it from from a career creator's perspective safe to say this type of event in a virulity virility I don't know if that's the right way to say it
Starting point is 00:03:40 basically the exposure that it garnered is great for content creators who previously I just listed out as far as already having safety concerns because you're probably one into yourself what actually happened well a male attendee rushed in Amaru's meet and greet grabbed her and attempted to kiss her. Now Amaru herself pushed him away before security interviewing seconds later. If you look at the clip, which I will play the clip, so trigger warning is only going to be for five, ten seconds because the main thing I want you all to see it. Because this is not something that you should just hear about. A lot of incidents you just hear about it.
Starting point is 00:04:25 and then guess what you act like it never happened so the main thing i want to show you what actually happened oh hold up i want to show you what actually happened as far as the event and i'm not going to play the video again because it's definitely a trickle warning for a lot of content creators out there so anyways uh trigger warning once more this is the video in full as you can see that's emiru in the middle doing the meet and greet and the guy walked up to her grabbed her and then attempted a kisser she pushed him right and then as you can see the security stepped in and got involved and then told him that he had to leave now when it comes to that incident it's very quick right and what i've been playing this whole time in the background is emiru's overall explanation so
Starting point is 00:05:08 if you wanted to see it uh in full it's a 48 minute video with emiru addressing what happened at twitchcon i'm basically giving you the synopsis and everything you need to know because this is a very serious incident and i'm breaking this down and giving it the respected because it seems like Twitch could care less about this specific scenario because let's put up Twitch's official statement, right? Twitch and Analytic Dreams video on Spotify to see the video along with the audio because I'm pulling up all of this as I'm talking about it. Twitch said quote, we are aware of the incident involving streamer Emeru during TwitchCon and want to assure our community that we take creator safety extremely serious. The individual responsible for allowing the situation to occur has been removed.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Keep their mind. They said the individual responsible for allowing the situation to occur has been removed from their position effective immediately. We are conducting a full review of our security protocols and are implementing stronger on-site safety measures to ensure that TwitchCon remains a safe and positive environment. environment for everyone, creators, fans, and staff alike. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve the Twitchcon experience moving forward. Now that seems like a fantastic statement from a company that this incident occurred as far as a specific convention, right? Until you realize, ladies and gentlemen, they was telling a couple fibs. So Emmeroo came out herself.
Starting point is 00:06:55 And this is before her actual video that I just showed. Emmeru came out herself. And essentially, she said, well, we're not going to read off this a whole entire thing. Because it's like a whole dissertation, which, you know, deservedly so. If this happens to you, I would want you to be able to come out and articulate all of the things that they messed up on. So we're just going to read off a little bit of it just so you can get a grasp of it. But I'm basically showing you this. So you can go watch it in full, like her 48 minute video.
Starting point is 00:07:23 and read this in full if you want to that's why i'm uh showing it the way that i am so anyways ammru said hello everyone i am okay and thank you for all the kind messages sorry i cannot respond to them all yesterday the man that assaulted who assaulted me was allowed to cross multiple barriers of twitchcon and even in front of other of another creator's meeting greet to grab me in my face and try to kiss me fortunately he wasn't able to but a lot of people have pointed out it could have been a lot worse i'm obviously shaken up by what happened and it's not the first time i've dealt with something like this but to tell you honestly i am more hurt and upset by how twitch handled it during and after the fact you guys see that's the problem remind to remind you the reason why i say keep in mind that twitch said
Starting point is 00:08:14 um the individual where the situation occurred was removed from the position effective immediately it was really fuzzy right so that's why i'm glad that emmerie was out here to give us the specifics of how twitch was actually lying as emiru getting back into her tweet she said like i said i don't understand how he was allowed to make it to me in the first place the security in the clip who reacts is my own security it's true my favorite and usual security guard was banned for holding a stalker's armed uh to bring him to the police at the at a past twitch con Now, when it comes to that specifically, I did have the related favorite security guard as going deeper into it when I researched. Basically, she was saying that her security touched a stalker's arm while handing him to the police because that stalker, I guess, was giving her trouble.
Starting point is 00:09:11 So his or her security guard was banned for taking that stalker by the arm and handing him to the police. So that's just to give you a little detail about her tweet. Anyways, let's get back into it. Who's the app? Okay, so the security, you already said that part. However, there were at least three to four other Twitchcon security staff in the area who did not react and let the guy walk away. I'm not going to play the video again, but if you rewind this or if you want to look at it on your own time, pay attention to the security person right beside Emmeru as that person didn't do anything.
Starting point is 00:09:49 her own security had stepped in that's why he was further away anyways um the woman who is walking me away is my own personal manager and behind the booth the only two people who were checking on me and and comforting me were her and my friend none of the twitchcon staff came to ask what happened or if i was okay my friend who was present told me twitch security were also behind the booth afterwards joking about how they didn't even see what happened and immediately laughing and moving on to talking about something else. So anyways, let me fast forward a little bit because I basically read off this whole tweet. She said in Twitch's statement, they said that the guy was immediately caught and detained.
Starting point is 00:10:37 I'm sorry, but that was a blatant lie. He was allowed to walk away from my meet and greet and I didn't hear he was caught until hours. hours ladies and gentlemen after he attacked me and it felt like this only happened because of my manager pressing for it not because twitch con staff present uh not because twitch con staff present thought it was a big deal now ladies and gentlemen that's just a synopsis of her tweet this is the 48 minute video like i keep saying of her explaining the whole situation as you can see she was very animated because you know deservedly so this is a very traumatic situation that could have been worse especially when you deep dive into the video and see that he may or may not have had a weapon that he pulled out
Starting point is 00:11:24 after being pushed by her security so anyways the main thing i was going to get into is one of the clips she goes into talking about how um one of the twitch representatives was partying if you don't know she was essentially talking about the CEO which i believe his name is dan something let me actually see Because I think I posted a short about it. Let me see. Is Dan something? Dan Clancy. I think that's his name.
Starting point is 00:11:52 So the Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy, she was referring to him in one of these clips. And let me play it right now. Okay. I've been talking to Twitch people. Analytic Dreams video on Spotify to see the video along with the RDO because I'm currently playing her clip explaining it after, even after her tweet. Okay. I've been talking to Twitch.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Twitch people, and I'm really upset because I noticed a lot of negligence around the event, and I'm not happy with the way that they're handling it now. And I'm like, what do you mean? She's like, well, I asked them, you know, like, what are they going to do about this? And you know what they said initially? They said, oh, well, he's banned from the platform for 30 days. Oh, no, let's run that back. What she just said? he's banned from the platform for 30 days Shepard just look at the state of gaming
Starting point is 00:12:55 like what is going on I'm not going to lie of these type of stereotypes because I cover the gaming and music industry so safe to say there's very different perceptions off of gaming creators and off of music creators in the world that they live in
Starting point is 00:13:12 there's a reason for that this type of stuff should not go on because of course I believe you If you want to end certain stereotypes on people being certain, being weird or awkward in certain scenarios or just outright out of bounds and very intrusive to people's boundaries, you should have more of a strict response and make it a priority. Like Dan Clancy should have been in her next live video. I don't care what it was. but he should have been in one of her videos basically taking it with the utmost sincerity but we're going to get to what he was doing in the second but let's get back to what she was saying he's banned from the platform for 30 days that's same thing i just did what
Starting point is 00:14:03 and then she's obviously like hello like that needs to be indefinite what the fuck are you talking on also there's like nothing to do with anything no one does a fuck if he's banned on twitter and on you know there's a pg podcast but hey emiru is the one of the one who's the one who's the one who went through this situation, so we're going to let her express herself freely. We're talking about the convention here. So they change it to indefinite. Takes an hour for that to happen, by the way. These two people are the head of security for Amazon.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Oh, she got receipts. Hold on now. She has actual receipts, ladies and gentlemen. Goodness gracious. The head of risk for Twitch. Also, later this same night, I'm not going to drop names here because I wasn't there, so I didn't see it, but I had multiple people tell me that key Twitch representatives last night were out partying. And not only key representatives, because that's what we're going to cut it off.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Not only key representatives, ladies and gentlemen, but very interesting how I may or may not have video of who she was talking about. And let's just say it may have not only been key representatives, but the CEO of Twitch, Dan Clancy. I want to make sure I keep getting his name right. But let's get back into the actual footage that she was talking about, ladies and gentlemen. All right, guys, I am not a trait professional. Don't try this at all. I know that ain't who I think. I know that ain't who I think of me.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Now, I know, I know not the, not even a day after, two days after, the same night that this incident occurred. This is where the CEO was, enjoying himself to the fullest. All right, guys, I am not a chance. know that ain't who i think of you i know that ain't who i think of you all right so y'all get the point right he could care less he could literally care less about this whole very serious situation so anyways when it comes to that the main thing i was wanting to get to is of course the seriousness of the assault but also emiru's statement which we've already covered showcasing the event as far as the video footage of what happened to her and of course getting twitches official response
Starting point is 00:16:32 because I never want y'all to only get one side of the story. I showed y'all both sides of the story. But of course, safe to say that he actually did take my advice a little bit as far as Dan Clancy. He did go to clear up some things. And y'all want to know what he said to clear it up. He essentially had his own press conference, right? Let me see if I can find this. Yeah, he essentially had his own press conference.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And this is what he had to say, ladies and gentlemen. Get assaulted by a male fan. and a lot of streamers have pretty much after he was done flipping all his favorite like female creators sort of toxic i guess parisocial kind of those two videos playing after he was done flipping his his favorite female creators he hopped on this video to give an explanation of the very very serious situation let's see if he has something actual um let's see if he has any actionable items as far as how to deal with the situation and other obviously we saw one twitcher I remember yesterday, Emmeru get assaulted by a male fan.
Starting point is 00:17:32 And a lot of streamers have, especially female streamers, have talked about, you know, the danger that they feel from these sort of toxic, I guess, parisocial kind of creeps. What are you guys doing to prioritize safety? Because I know also a bunch of Twitch content creators said that they were too scared to even come to TwitchCon this year, just in case something like what happened yesterday, what happened? The safety of our creators is the top priority. The challenge we face is a challenge in today's society. It's not limited to Twitch. It extends throughout our society.
Starting point is 00:17:57 I do think that when your lives, your live streaming in many ways since you control your community and you first red flag let's continue can ban people you can make it so that those people that you don't want engaging with you and participating with you aren't today okay it's very different you know when i use other short form content and people say all sorts of stuff well i can't stop that now to be fair let's be fair for a second because of course i don't know who made this clip but i can tell those obvious jump cuts so he was going to expound upon that i don't see where he expounded upon i use other short form content and people say all sorts of stuff well i can't stop that but when i live stream they basically don't bother me now what happened
Starting point is 00:18:39 yesterday i'll so yeah that's definitely a jump cut i don't know exactly what he said to expound upon that but the first thing you say regarding that very serious incident with emmeroo getting assaulted is that in your live streams hold up in your live streams you could ban them so you don't see them again you guys see that's the problem well i guess if you're in real life all you got to do is hit the ban button and they will cease to appear dan clancy said to himself that you could turn into a wizard if you want and if somebody you don't want to be in your live stream i rl you just ban them and they go away so anyways let's keep going i never knew that man who would have thought that the powers that we had would have been brought out by twitch's ceo dan clans
Starting point is 00:19:27 Nancy. Say all sorts of stuff. Well, I can't stop that. But when I live stream, they basically don't bother me. Now, what happened yesterday obviously was something that we care deeply about securing this environment. You know, we're looking very closely at everything that happened there. And I care deeply about Emmy.
Starting point is 00:19:42 She's a friend of mine. And so I want to see how we can support her. This is just something we have to keep working on. I think everyone identifies our tools in terms of trust and safety as the leaders in the industry about helping creators. the leaders in the industry. You guys. See, that's the problem.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Interesting choice of words. I ain't gonna lie to you. But that means there's always more work to be done, because that's the world we live in now. Demi had posted earlier today that I guess this fan was allowed to cross multiple barriers at TwitchCon. Why should streamers trust Twitch to keep them safe at TwitchCon? Because I feel like simultaneously this has been such a secure event to the point that even like journalists have had struggle. Like, you know, it is very secure.
Starting point is 00:20:26 But here's this fan that just walks up and is somehow able to bypass a all these things. So why should they trust the platform when slipups or, you know, issues like this have happened? Well, I mean, as you know, I think you toured some of what we do in terms of security. The reality is even as you do a lot in terms of security in today's world, there are challenges that can present themselves, especially when someone is putting themselves out there, right? And so... Someone is what? I don't know. Someone is putting themselves out there.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Challenges that can present themselves, especially when someone is... putting themselves out there. Huh. Shepard. Just look at the state of gaming. Like, what is going on? This sounds awfully similar to certain rhetoric
Starting point is 00:21:17 that some will call the Red Peel community. But then, you know what I'm saying? So anyways, let's, you know, if you just don't put yourself out there, it's safe to say you won't get assaulted. Hey, this is, this is Dan Clancy's words, not mine.
Starting point is 00:21:32 As you can see right here, analytic dreams video on Spotify. This is not. AI. This is him actually giving a statement to after Amaru got assaulted. These worlds there are challenges that can present themselves especially when someone is putting themselves out there. And so you know we try to work very closely with each creator about what they want to do and what works for them, right? So I don't want to get into any you know specifics or details but part of that
Starting point is 00:21:59 is working with creators and you know trying to find it right now we're definitely you know ramping it up to make sure creators know that we have the resources they are to help them figure out what's right for them. Now, I have a lot of different videos we're going through because this is a very serious situation. By the way, this video is still playing. Like I said, 48 minutes, right? This is more of a synopsis.
Starting point is 00:22:20 So that's how you know there's a lot more to deep dive into. But I want to go to the one and only Sina herself as she talked about not going to her meet and greed due to safety issues. And this was during the event, I believe. So I had to cancel. So I had to cancel my meet and greet because of the stuff. But in order to, it's, I can't cancel my meet and greet and not cancel her show because of the fact that the reason I cancel my meet and greet is I don't want to be in a same place for two hours.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Because of people being weird. Okay. And then. This seems to be a reoccurring issue for female content creators. Now that's the main thing I want to get across in this segment. Hopefully I've done a great job on showcasing different. tidbits as far as videos tweets pictures the main thing i want to get at is twitch's lack of accountability for strengthening female creator's sense of safety at these events if you want twitch to have a
Starting point is 00:23:22 profitable convention because it's not currently if you don't know that's a whole other separate discussion but i guess i get into it right now if you don't know when it comes to twitch specifically they currently do not make Amazon any money so when it comes to that literally it's a quote unquote rounding error versus Amazon scale and which is why I covered back in February 21st 2024 how Twitch laid off a whopping 35 percent 35 percent ladies and gentlemen of this workforce confirmed by the one and only Dan Clancy so when it comes to that safe to say Twitchcon is not even as profitable as it should be for it to be acting so oblivious to its drivers in engagement to the convention that's the main thing I want to get across if you have people who drive engagement to your convention you should really you should take care of anyone but especially the people who you are I'm not even going to say pain but the people who are showing up to drive a whole audience to come meet them safety.
Starting point is 00:24:32 say you should probably prioritize safety and for these female creators they don't feel safe so that's the main thing i was wanting to get across i'm under contract with them so i can't cancel one and not cancel the other interesting oh i'm sorry i mean because i wanted to keep my show surely it'll be fine i'm sorry i mean surely it will be fine and that's um that's crazy isn't that insane how certain scenarios leads up to certain creators being assaulted and then the company behind it just seemingly does not care and the only reason they care is because of viral backlash so guess what as a connoisseur of the gaming and music industry that's the reason why i went so long with this breakdown of amaru's assault at twitchconn 2025 because that's the biggest headline
Starting point is 00:25:22 as far as Twitch needing to take accountability and provide more safety with female content creators and just content creators in general, but it seems to be a reoccurring thing with female creators, right? How profile female creators. So I'm not going to deep dive into Twitch anymore. I've already talked about them when I talked about the 35% of his workforce being laid off back in February 21 of 2024, basically talking about how they don't generate. rate profit right the unprofitable due to the high cost because of uh i forget the workings behind
Starting point is 00:25:59 the scenes of having the live streaming aspect and then of course having to pay out streamers they basically break even and of course when it comes to the twitch con i mean it's safe to say it's not a major revenue driver so um amazon who's the main backers could shut down Twitch but they they decide not to because of it being a very integral part of it of the gaming community in which you know deservedly so as twitch is hugely important to the gaming society but it's not as important as keeping high profile content creators safe at their conventions it's not more important than that so we'll see how amazon response to this um i think the main thing when it comes to this twitch incident is me giving it the respect it deserves because
Starting point is 00:26:47 as you know me going around conventions is not the same as a major content creator who does millions of numbers and months going around a convention. It's not the same. So I can't really compare my experience at conventions to other content creators. So that's why I chose to pinpoint a lot of different high profile content creators. So you don't think this is just a regular issue. This is a huge issue on safety that Twitch needs to address. So that being said, click my link to your in my bio.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Let me know on one of my social media. what do you think about TwitchCon having this crazy incident happen to Emaru as far as her being assaulted and ultimately what do you think should be the outcome to Twitch so that they start taking these security issues for female content creators seriously
