Starting point is 00:00:00 Shepard promise me you'll tell them to subscribe for free content. Now ladies and gentlemen in all my years of covering the gaming and music IPs that notoriously affect the masses, never have I ever covered the most downloaded mobile game in history. Shepard. You know what I'm saying? Just look at the state of gaming. Like what is going on? As of over here at notorious Mass Effect, you know I've been putting a heavy emphasis on respecting the mobile gaming community. You know, you know.
Starting point is 00:00:29 All right. That's what we're currently doing. Give them some praise. All right, so anyways, we've been putting heavy respect on the mobile gaming community as even though we've covered free fire, roadblocks, candy crush, when it comes to Subway Surfers, the specific mobile game we're getting into for this segment, not only is it the most downloaded mobile game ever, objectively speaking, with 4 to 4.5 billion lifetime downloads across iOS and Android.
Starting point is 00:00:59 but it was also the first mobile game to hit $1 billion on the Google Play Store in 2018 So of course getting into the sales and review roundup of subway surfers It's almost like we are going back in time to respect a heavily popular game Because guess what ladies and gentlemen It's still popular in modern times As if you don't know As of right now subway surfers is still one of the most downloaded game
Starting point is 00:01:32 of all time so it didn't go anywhere for a game they came out in May 2012 yes May 2012 in the big year of 2026 this game is still one of the most mobile still one of the most downloaded mobile games ever so if you don't know it consistently tops the charts as far as performance with one million daily installs on average and as far as its cultural impact you already know it's there as any game that doesn't change the core gameplay loop for 14 years and they still remain on top
Starting point is 00:02:07 is a magnificent accomplishment in any industry, especially for the goat, you know what I'm saying? Is it okay? I got my dope on me. Oh, my fault. That's my music side coming out. You know, just had a shout out of my favorite artist. So with that be it said, subway surfers is a mammoth of a mobile game and we're going to
Starting point is 00:02:23 get into all the analytics. And of course, when it comes to the story, safe to say we're going to get the out of the way, ladies and gentlemen. Because guess what? If you're coming to Subway Surface for the story, it's very minuscule. And by that, I mean, the overall story is simply a graffiti kid, Jake, tricky, etc., being spotted by the inspector plus their dog and running endlessly to dodge changed obstacles while collected coins slash power-ups. That's the story, basically. So they was doing confeding.
Starting point is 00:02:56 Well, actually, they was making art, technically. And then now they're caught by the police. or not caught, but they are seen by the police and now the endless loop engages, right? Or a start. So that's the overall loop. As far as the people behind this specific game, we have S-Y-B-O games that is located in Copenhagen,
Starting point is 00:03:17 founded in 2010 by Savelster Risho, I think that's how you said. Jensen and Bodie created and owns the IP. And of course, they focused on a lot of other. their mobile games, I believe they have Blaze of Brim, and then as far as spinoffs of Subway Surfers, they have a specific game called Tag. I think it's called Tag or City.
Starting point is 00:03:41 I think it's called Tag. Oh, Subway Surfer City will get into in a second. But as far as S-Y-B-O games, they were acquired by MiniClip, which once again, Tencent rears his head to showcase how it's one of the more dominant factors in behind the scenes as far as funding some of these particular immensely popular games. So Miniclip, a 10-cent subsidiary, which you probably didn't know that,
Starting point is 00:04:09 they acquired S-Y-B-O games in 2022, and the estimated revenue is around $25 to $50 million annually. And, of course, the game we're getting into right now as far as Subway Surfers is largely impactful as far as their revenue. So now let's get into the developer. So you have K-L-L-O-O-O-O-and they were founded in 2000, co-developed, and initially published Subway Surfers until 2020. So if you didn't know, they were at the very beginning. There was the foundational pillar of subway surfers.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And of course, they made other titles like Frisbee Forever, Storm Blaze, but it shut down in 2023 with 100 layoffs after 20, three years. Sad day in history. Shepard. Sad day. Just look at the state of game. Yeah, we're looking at it. What is going on? What's going on is that's a very sad scenario. So let's just say subway surfers is definitely their crown jewel.
Starting point is 00:05:12 And that's an immaculent crown jewel to have as not only as subway surfers, one of the, we're not the, it's the most downloaded game ever. But of course, when you look at the top five, you have subway surfers topping the lifetime downloads. but of course when you look at it as early of um 2026 you have a free fire that has like 1.9 billion downloads roblocks that has 1.4 billion downloads candy crush saga that has 1.4 billion downloads and of course you have a ball pool that has 1.2 billion downloads now of course the difference between roblox is because robox had 1.4 billion candy crush saga had 1.44 billion just in case people was wondering why that uh why candy crush is at number four so what i wanted to get into is because
Starting point is 00:06:04 we don't really have to talk about the gameplay loop like are you guys like come on now you guys we don't we don't got to do that do we got to do that you know of course not so when it comes to the gameplay loop it's very simple and simplistic to find out but when it comes to the overall aspects as far as progression systems as far as the unlockables there are multiple characters you can unlock i think five total so there's jay tricky fresh spike and utani so yeah five total uh but technically there's dozens of playable characters so i guess there's other characters though those were their original characters but there's dozens of playable characters um probably just expansions things like that hundreds of skins slash outfits
Starting point is 00:06:45 and the showcases have featured 400 plus character variants so it's safe to say they're definitely on their marvel rivals type beat as the skins and variants are going crazy and keeping this game alive as the gameplay loop is definitely not changing 14 years same gameplay loop and guess what if it's immaculate nobody cares so along with that this specific game is available on ios ipad os macOS android amazon fire harmony os i even know what that is uh web browsers so basically it's available everywhere um i think when it comes to this particular game and their spin-off which is why i was wanting to get into following up subway service that's already impossible to match and popularity is a very big ask and very big risk but it is one that they've taken that subway surface city is a 20 is coming out what no it's already came out yeah came out February 26 2026 as the first major sequel to the franchise remember subway surfers came out in May 2012 now we're getting the sequel and February 26 of 2026 so it's safe to say that's a while
Starting point is 00:08:00 But then you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at this. That's a long time to wait for a sequel. But guess what? A lot of people enjoy the original subway surfers. So as far as Subway City, you have four unlockable districts as far as the docks, Southline, Sunrise Boulevard, DeLorean Park. And there's new features on this game, like the game's unique features that sets it apart from Subway Surfers. You have improved visuals and art style.
Starting point is 00:08:28 You have speed pads, stop. mechanic a stump mechanic bouncy shield a shield upgrade expanded progression systems and then when it comes to the three modes you have the classic endless mode which you know you already know as far as the endless subway surfers type of gameplay loop then you have the city tour which is a new infinite progression mode featuring levels objectives mission missions hidden stars district exploration and of course you have events which is rotate rotating challenge runs in special trials. And then each new season, or no, each season adds new neighborhoods, new characters,
Starting point is 00:09:07 new outfits, and new hoverboys. Now, I just thought to myself, for how big, for as big of a game that Subway Surface is, how come they've never done like huge crossover events like a Fortnite? Now, you know, of course, don't kill me. But imagine having, like, a Spider-Man in this game. I know Spider-Man tried to have his own game, like Subway Surfers, but that was. didn't do as good as subway service. But imagine having a Spider-Man in this game,
Starting point is 00:09:35 a Luke Skywalker, like imagine Spider-Man running from Green Goblin or Luke Skywalker running away from his father, you know what I'm saying? Like, I wonder why they never did any crossover IP, like, collabs. Because I think that would help take it to, like, a whole other level, especially since it's already at the top, as you've seen for Fortnite, once you're at the top,
Starting point is 00:09:58 I mean, what else is there to do? So I think collabing with other top IPs would have been the logical next step. Hey, you know, we never know. Maybe we'll get a Spider-Man collab and Spider-Man Subway Surfers collab in the future. So what that means is said, if you don't know, Spider-Man is my favorite fictional creation of all time. So getting into Subway Surfers even more, I think the biggest thing you need to take away from this particular game and while we're putting so much heavy emphasis on it is because when trying to notoriously affect the masses, rarely do you get a game like this that last decades and still is leading the pack as far as the top mobile games in the world and it came out almost two plus decades ago same gameplay loops same everything and people are still very much enamored by it the visual decor gameplay loop even i saw a breakdown of the story i mean even though there's no story yeah i saw i still seen a whole 20 minute breakdown of the story i was like what was that man talking about so because i was i looked into the story. There is nothing. You know what I'm saying? You get caught by the police and now
Starting point is 00:11:05 you're running for your life. That's literally it. There's nothing deeper than that. So I just find it very impressive how subway service has stayed on top over decades, decade plus, right? So now that we got into the sales, let's get into the review roundup, as a lot of people, of course, had glowing things to say about this game, but getting into a couple. Let's get. Let's start with Google Play, which of course is where they broke the record. I believe it was Google Play. Yeah, Google Play. In 2018, that's when Subway Surfers was the first mobile game ever to hit $1 billion on Google Play, of course, in 2018.
Starting point is 00:11:43 So anyways, Google Play gave it a, well, although the ratings were positive, but in particular, this one reviewer said, quote, this is a great game. Well, that's it. You know what I'm saying? All right, my fault. Let me read the rest of his review. Honestly, I love how you can get some bundles by watching ads. What? Whatever.
Starting point is 00:12:06 The graphics are great. The outfits and character ideas are unbelievable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. This is a great way the past time, and I love it. You guys. You know what I'm saying? He loves it right there. That's what he just did.
Starting point is 00:12:23 That's what he just... Getting into another review, we had Pocket Gamer. and most of the reviews praise it for fun gameplay and free access but criticize some of the controls and I do not know that word what is in the actual this first time I ever seen this word in life I thought I thought it was parasite for a second I was like bro what is that okay hold up I'm trying to get um trying to get drivers to read this out I don't even know if I can do that let me see how to say driver's probably like bro I ain't I ain't trying to say that at all I don't even know how to start with this word.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I could you not. I don't even know where to start. Oh, let's see. Parcimonious. See? Come on now. Come on, guys. Where else you're going to find a word like?
Starting point is 00:13:14 Parcimonious. Where else are you going to get a display of how to say parsimonious? You know what I'm saying? Other than a notorious mass effect. Don't say I never did nothing for y'all, you know what I'm saying? But anyways, parsimonious is unwilling. to spend money or use resources. So basically stingy or frugal.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Well, hold up now. Is that LeBron James? I'm not my fault. Y'all know how frugal that man is. All right, anyways. So they could have said frugal, but instead of that, they wanted to say a parsimonious game design.
Starting point is 00:13:48 So that'd be said. So I guess he just called this game cheap, which, you know, I think growing up as a little kid, playing Temple Run, playing, there was like this little jetpack game. Like when you hold the screen, he uses a jetpack,
Starting point is 00:14:03 he goes higher and then when you let go at the screen he goes lower that that game play loop pulse um i think in general those gameplay loops nobody looks at it as like frugal like oh the game developers are not wanting to spend money they just look at it as a fun game so i think that review is interesting but hey this is a review roundup so it's not my review um let's get into one more so basically let me see what was the top one oh let's go to the app store okay so the apple store. I wanted the reviewer said, quote, first off, gameplay is awesome. The feeling of being chased by this fat cop. Hey, hold on now. I know you ain't fat shaming. Hey, hold on now. We don't do that over here. You know what I'm saying? Everybody is beautiful in
Starting point is 00:14:46 they don't wait. Anyways, let's get on with his review. So, I lost my place. Okay, I found it. By this cop, being chased by this cop and his dog while you tried to collect coins, it's very basic, but still awesome gameplay. In conclusion, Subway Surfers is definitely an amazing game that all ages besides newborns can try out and enjoy playing. There's really only a few downsides that don't really matter because of how small they are. And ladies and gentlemen, I will have to say that I have officially put immense respect on the mobile gaming community because we just covered the most downloaded mobile game.
Starting point is 00:15:32 of all time. Oh, I ain't got to do all that. I ain't got to do all that. Drusie, come on now. But you can if you want to via my link, tree and my bio to follow me on my social media. And of course, on Spotify, you can comment down below
Starting point is 00:15:46 if you're a huge subway surfer fanatic, what is your favorite aspect of subway surfers? And of course, the sequels for our Subway Surfer City. What do you like most about that game?
