Starting point is 00:00:00 It was only a matter of time between TikTok and Billboard to eventually make a strategic partnership because of their influence on the music industry. Because if you don't know, when TikTok was first blowing up and music was getting played expeditiously, shout out to TI, of course. I can't spell it, but I just said it, you know what I'm saying? music labels was upset because they felt like they were not getting compensated enough for the music that was being played on TikTok. So how do you come to a middle ground where both sides are happy with what they are getting as far as the slice of the pie? You come to a partnership. If you can't beat them, join them.
Starting point is 00:00:46 And TikTok seems like it's here to say. So Billboard decided to have a partnership created and the likes of a TikTok. Billboard. So what does that mean? That means that a lot of these tracks that you hear in whatever short you see swiping up on TikTok will now be counted towards the Billboard top 50 chart. And so technically right now I have up the September charts for the TikTok billboard. I don't actually know how to pull up the TikTok billboard charts.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Not like I've looked for it because I feel like the influence as far as, music is really shorts related so it's not really a whole indication of how people are vibing with your track is more of a is it nice for a sound clip for a funny video and that's kind of how i feel like music blows up on ticot as as you see right here shout out to analytic dreams video on my spotify channel for the video element along with the audio but basically as you see ski is it's hard to say that is at the top of the billboard chart for September 14th, right? That is by Sexie Red.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Now, do I believe that Sexy Red is just making the best music out here and it's just chart topping with her singles? No. But on TikTok, of course she is. Everybody loves the Skiey tagline and they be using it in every single video that involves dancing. So if Skie Ye is going to be the feature as far as the first position, followed by Doja Cat, followed by Taylor Swift, of course.
Starting point is 00:02:25 then you get an indication of what the masses are listening to when they want to dance, which is a big influence factor when it comes to the party scene. So now users can access the chart within the TikTok app. Okay, so you just go to the TikTok app or on the Billboard's website to see the current top 50 chart. So the collaboration between TikTok and Billboard definitely highlights TikTok's influence on the music industry, as I just said. and its role with music discovery and promotion. So not only do we have Kaysenat to come out and tell us what's hot and what's trash, but we now have TikTok.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Why do I say Kaisenat? Because he's one of the most influential content creators out there who promotes musicians. I mean, there's a reason why Osset did a whole stream, like an overnight stream with Kaysenat, and then come to find out his album sales went up, in fact, and he sold around 80,000 first week, which I know a lot of people remember my take on Offset. Well, if you don't, I'll remind you. Basically, I was completely wrong. I thought Offset was kind of flopping a lot with the single, so I didn't think the album would perform as well. But boy, was that marketing strategy, marketing, because that man was everywhere you could be when it comes to publicizing your album.
Starting point is 00:03:45 That is how you market an album. Whenever you're putting out a project that you actually feel like people should listen to. That's the type of marketing rollout you should have as you could tell Offset really wanted people to listen to his music. And guess what? When he put it out, people listen to it. So another tip bit that popped up into my mind is Drake's use of Sexy Red on For All the Dogs, Rich Baby Daddy. If you don't know, that track is doing particularly well on the charts. And I think Drake probably saw Sexy Red's music dominating the charts of TikTok. having multiple tracks. If you don't know it's multiple, so it's not just this one. I know I have this track up or this chart up, but this is an older chart, but this is a more up to date
Starting point is 00:04:29 statistic as Taylor Swift with seven songs and sexy red with four are the artists with the most entries on the TikTok Billboard top 50 charts since it launched. So it kind of shows you why sexy red is so popular and where her popularity comes from. And it's more of a valuable tool, not only for the industry, but for fans to recognize how music discovery on TikTok is shaping up in a popular culture and how engaging it is to music fans. I don't really use TikTok like that unless I'm posting videos, you know, shameless plug to in the league dreams on TikTok, you know, click my link to my bio, all that good stuff. But basically I post a lot of different interviews and basically my takes on music and that's what I use it for. I don't really scroll too much on TikTok. I don't follow anybody because I don't use it.
Starting point is 00:05:21 So I'm not too familiar with the whole process of going on TikTok just to watch videos and seeing music pop up. But if you want that, then to access the chart on TikTok, users can tap the round icon at the bottom of the screen and click on the music charts button in the top right corner. And this chart is updated weekly on Thursdays and is available on both TikTok and billboards website so all you need to know is that this is one of the biggest collaborate well this is one of the biggest strategic marketing partnerships that we will see in 2023 because tic-tok is humongous as far as its influence on the musical field and billboard without saying like that goes without saying a lot of people love to be on billboard charts i mean if everybody could be on there they would you know what i mean so many tracks drop a day but only
Starting point is 00:06:18 what, the top 100, the top 200 make it to Billboard charts. And for RIAA certification, I believe this will also help out as they can get an inclination on what people are listening to on TikTok and kind of count those streams towards Billboard as with this partnership. It makes it even easier for both sides to streamline the statistics in a way that users can access. So it's sort of like when you go to your DSP, whether or Spotify, whether it's Apple, Amazon, and go to the charts and see who is where as far as the top 100 position.
Starting point is 00:06:59 It's a very interesting day in society when TikTok is navigating the landscape of music, but I kind of correlate it with the ringtone era. If you don't remember, the ringtone era was back in the 2000s when, you know, Soja Boy was going crazy with his dance and stuff. And everybody also was singing Kiss Me Through the Foursons. phone like it was going out of style, right? Humongous ringtone as far as sales and downloads. But now, I feel like TikTok is the updated version of that as it's more of a short clip,
Starting point is 00:07:34 but also used in the factor of entertainment. So ringtones and TikTok as far as musical influence, I think is having the same effect. And let me know if I'm off with that comparison, but that's the biggest way I can quantify it because I think if you are musician, I would rather be on billboard charts than TikTok, but obviously TikTok is as influential than ever nowadays. So it would definitely not hurt to have your song charting on TikTok. Well, now, Billboard charts. So that being said, click my link to you in my bio.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Let me know in one of my social medias. What do you think about the TikTok and Billboard collaboration as far as them creating the TikTok Billboard top 50 charts? And in the long jevity of things in the music industry, do you think that this top 50 chart from TikTok will help artists create more buzz around their musical releases?
