Marking his first Grammys performance since 2020, Tyler delivered a standout set blending tracks from CHROMAKOPIA (2024) and DON’T TAP THE GLASS (2025): “Thought I Was Dead,” “Like Him,” and “Sugar On My Tongue.”The performance opened with “Thought I Was Dead” in a bright green exaggerated soldier uniform, featuring confrontational delivery, reworked lyrics, and militaristic staging as Tyler moved through the audience. A transitional gas station set piece included a full vehicle prop, dancers, faux gasoline effects, and a surprise cameo by Regina King as a service-station worker bridging the segments. The closing “Sugar On My Tongue” brought an all-red wardrobe shift, exuberant and suggestive choreography atop a red Ferrari, culminating in simulated explosion effects and Tyler's dramatic post-blast sprawl.Widely praised as energetic, artistic, and unforgettable—often ranked #1 performance of the night—this medley synthesized his back-to-back album eras through cinematic stagecraft, narrative symbolism, costumes, and practical effects. Tyler earned six nominations, including Album of the Year for CHROMAKOPIA, and won the inaugural Best Album Cover Grammy.Official uploads include Tyler's channel edit (“Thought I Was Dead / Sugar On My Tongue (Live at the 2026 GRAMMYs)”) and the full medley on Recording Academy channels, racking up massive views. Starting point is 00:00:03 Now, of course, for all the Tyler DeCreator fans out there, sadly, he would not be releasing music anytime soon. But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip hop. Like, what's going on? But of course, there's no need to fear because at the end of the day, the day got it in. Shepard. All right, my fault. Anyways, getting back to what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:00:24 So the Tyler, the Creator is essentially going the acting route, you know, basically taking this time to, of course, promote the two albums that he just drew. like some forget that Tyler the creator he usually takes an interesting break between albums as far as like two years or something like that um because yeah looking at his discography i mean all of these are like two year breaks so as far as him saying that chromocopia is going to be his last for a while and then dropping don't tap the glass you would think hold up now you guys is Tyler the creator running us astray running us a muck and no he is not I know that ain't who I think it is as Promo copia sold so phenomenally that I think he wanted to reward his fans with another project. I know, you know, technically don't work like that. But when it comes to the amount that he sold, you got to stick with me because 299, well, the reports, some say 299,000 first week. Some say 297,000.
Starting point is 00:01:24 What I got to say to that is, what I got to say to that is, Woot they do. And we beat Eifold, we beat them. That's still a phenomenal. that's still a phenomenal accomplishment, especially when you just see what Jay Cole sold, with the falloff, which is going back to my original point
Starting point is 00:01:40 about Tyler the Creator, arguably being in the Big Three. But hey, you know, that's just me, you know what I'm saying? But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip-hop. Like, what's going on? So obviously, over here at notorious Mass Effect, we put amiss respect on Tyler the Creator's name.
Starting point is 00:01:55 And also, if you don't know, call me if you get lost, did sell 169,000 units first week, And of course, that was one year after Chromacopia when he said that would be his last. So a lot of people are supporting that like it was going to be his last, right? So when you look at what he's going to do continuing 2026, safe to say he is going to promote Chromacopia and call me if you get lost, of course. And then you come to realize that his live performance is second to none.
Starting point is 00:02:24 He's really attention oriented, detail oriented, as far as performing, live and making sure people get their money's worth. So he is scheduled for a Latin America tour starting March 2026, including headlining spots at the festival, at Stereo Picnic, Lollapalooza, South Africa, and then, of course, solo shows in San Jose, Mexico City, Guadalara, hopefully I said that right, and San Juan.
Starting point is 00:03:00 So when it comes to that, he's also headlining a two-day takeover at London's All Point East Festival in August 2026 with the support from acts like Rex Orange County, turnstile, Daniel Seizier, and of course, baby Kim. Okay, that's interesting. So when it comes to Tyler the Creator specifically, I did want to use this segment to basically talk about his live performance aspects because, of course, he's going to be gone for quite some time because he's going to be gone for quite some time because he's. if you don't know, focusing on non-music pursuits like you've already seen as far as Marty Supreme. And of course, you don't know what he could be in and a foreseeable future as far as his acting career. But safe to say he's focusing on that right now. So looking at the timeline of Tyler the creator as far as a live performer, I think the Grammy performance was definitely a standout to let people know what they could expect going to
Starting point is 00:03:58 these festivals that Tyler the Creator. will be at and the live performances, especially the Latin America tour that he's about to go on. I think he's about to shut it down in a way that makes people start putting more respect on his live performance, his live performance as far as quality. I think, should I go as far to say that this man may get a Super Bowl halftime show slot? Shepard. All right, my fault. You know, maybe those are just high hopes.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Maybe I'm just throwing it out there. but let's just say there's a lot of artists not going to say a lot just like a handful and barely that's turning down the super bowl now for what reasons i have no idea taylor swift uh drake is it okay i got my dope on me i mean they don't want to bring their dope to the super bowl so so guess what you know it's not too many superstars putting up monuments with numbers that also puts on a great live performance um not saying that drake puts on like a great live performance i'm just saying like as far as a numbers perspective because it is a numbers game at the end of the they would like somebody who can effectively, um,
Starting point is 00:05:03 affect the masses in a way that also is true to hip hop, especially with Jay Z at the head picking the next entertainer for the Super Bowl halftime show. So Tyler the creator is just the name I wanted to float out there. But, um, the main thing is the Super Bowl, no, the Grammy performance that he had. It was so immaculate. Obviously, I can't show it. Right now I'm just showing him, um, I think he's at some school. You know what I mean, just teaching the youth, man.
Starting point is 00:05:27 He's doing God's work. You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? what I'm saying? Tell the creator out there. Give him some praise. Showing the little Timis, the little Cassandra's how to create. Ain't that, ain't that something, man, ain't that something.
Starting point is 00:05:38 But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip hop. Like, what's going on? So that being said, I think, you know, if there was a Super Bowl committee or somebody from it listening, I would say, you know, I think the Grammy performance that Tyler the Creator put on, which is a slight, you know, it was like a vertical slights of which you can expect if he was on that Super Bowl. he was on that Super Bowl stage. So I'm not saying he deserves it.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Actually, I am saying that he deserves it. I'm not saying that he needs to have it. But I'm saying he deserves to be in that pile of names as far as thrown around for a Super Bowl performer. And I'm pretty sure he would take it. Anyways, as far as the Grammy performance, I think it was the first performance since 2020, which was a six-year gap. So that's why I was such a big deal for Tyler to create to come out and perform songs.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Like I was dead from Carmacopia, like him from Cormacopia. And of course, he ended. with sugar on my tongue. Hold on no. You guys. See, that's the problem. And of course, that specific track was from Don't Tap the Glass. Now, of course, that happened on my birthday.
Starting point is 00:06:39 You know what I mean? Shout to me. So I thoroughly enjoy seeing all of the outlandish moments of the Grammys, right? But that was definitely one of the more performative aspects, in my opinion. You know how people use performative to downgrade people and, you know, to diminish what they've accomplished. I think Tyler the creator performatively was at a level that we haven't seen too often on that Grammy stage. And when you look at the scenes as far as the gas station, the full vehicle props, the dancers, the gasoline visual effects, the way he ended off the show, I would really, you know, challenge you to go watch that performance to come away from it saying that that wasn't degraded.
Starting point is 00:07:28 or one of the greater Grammy performances you've seen. Anyways, as far as sticking to that Grammy performance, there was also a surprise appearance by Regina King, service station, worker connecting song segments. So, you know, she was definitely a pivotal part in that performance. And when you look at the closing scene, as far as the simulated explosion effect and then Tyler sprawled out, you know, post-blast,
Starting point is 00:07:58 I think the main thing when you look at it is understanding not only from an artistic standpoint when he's trying to get across, but also how many iconic characters he's given us throughout his discography. And of course, I think that leads him into wanting to get into, uh, wanted to get more acclimated with acting with a Marty Supreme with whatever film he has next. the whole cinematic aspect I think Tyler the creator puts immense time into as far as attention to detail so once I you know once again he's very
Starting point is 00:08:35 detail oriented in my opinion and I do believe that he deserves at least to be discussed if we're talking about a big three in hip-hop now if I was to go with the actual third honestly I may put a producer you know Metro been going so crazy
Starting point is 00:08:50 he basically the one who Aliyup the biggest rat beef ever gave us two of the spider verse albums that was straight fire. Oh no, actually it was just one. But anyways, what else? Oh, yeah, the heroes and villains. I mean, I could go on and on.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Metro is really given us some of the greatest hip-hop content in the past, like, five to six years, maybe even longer. But I don't know if people are ready to put a producer in the top three of hip-hop. So I'll probably say, like, right now, obviously we have Drake and Kendrick. I honestly think there's a big two right now. I think those two have ran away with it. But if it was a big three, I would either put future, Tyler, the creator of Metro there, which, you know, goes back to my point on how I talk about how, you know, Germain is the most overrated rapper of all time because, you know, the third slide,
Starting point is 00:09:37 he don't want to battle with none of the two or one. Like, what type of third slide is he? So, you know, I'll be thinking about that all the time. I'll be thinking to myself, man, how did he get that top three slide? And then I realized he was banished by Jay Z. But then, you know what I'm saying? I was like, damn, look at the state of hip hop. Like, what's going on?
Starting point is 00:09:53 You know, they tell you to work hard, you know, be consistent. And then you realize all the superstars in the world is either mentor by Lil Wayne, mentor by Jay-Z. Then you come to realize like, hold on now. Hold up now. There's a lot more going into it than just talent. But anyways, kind of went off on a side tangent. But basically, we got into a whole hierarchy of hip-hop because Tyler, the creator, is that
Starting point is 00:10:16 great as far as needing to be in that conversation. So anyways, with that being said, click my link to you in my bio. Let me know one of my social medias. what do you think about Tyler the Creator in general? As far as his last two albums, Don't Tap the Glass Chromacopia, and then us revisiting the Grammy Awards performance, will you watch the Grammy performance from Tyler the Creator?
Starting point is 00:10:38 And after you do, let me know what was your favorite part, and if you already watched it, is it one of the greatest Grammy performances you've ever seen?
