In this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, Analytic Dreamz delivers a detailed breakdown of Microsoft’s historic Xbox restructuring announced July 6, 2026. Xbox is cutting approximately 3,200 jobs—20% of its workforce—through FY2027, with 1,600 immediate layoffs and another 1,600 to follow. As part of a broader 4,800-job reduction across Microsoft, new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma describes it as the most significant restructure in Xbox history.Analytic Dreamz examines the harsh realities behind the cuts: lagging Game Pass growth (30 million subscribers vs. 77 million projected), declining console sales, shrinking player engagement, exploding hardware costs driven by AI demand, and operating margins far below competitors. The segment covers major studio changes including Double Fine and Compulsion Games becoming independent, the sale of Ninja Theory and Undead Labs, Arkane Studios under strategic review, and Microsoft’s sharpened focus on core franchises like Call of Duty, Minecraft, Halo, Gears of War, Forza, and Fallout. Analytic Dreamz also explores new leadership under COO Helen Chiang, management streamlining, and what this reset means for Xbox’s future. A must-listen for gamers and industry watchers. Shepard, promise me you'll tell them to subscribe for ad free content.
If PlayStation keeps having game of a year...
Is that me?
Year after year after year.
What the world?
All right, my fault.
Y'all listen up.
We'll have to have a real conversation on how to help our Xbox.
Because even though I own the PlayStation, I do acknowledge that if PlayStation keeps tipping
the scale, because right now they're winning by a landslide.
Like, there's a stat out there that.
for every one Xbox
sold, this is for PS5
sold, right?
So if the scales keep tipping
in PlayStation's favor,
what's stopping them from having
competitive prices like an Xbox?
Why not mark their prices up?
Xbox is getting whipped so bad right now
as far as just popular games that also is high quality
that at some point
find a game that can be your next
Halo.
Shepard.
Just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
Now, ladies and gentlemen, this video was from 2024, December 13.
Now, it is 2026, ladies and gentlemen.
And, you guys, see, that's the problem.
I'm not saying that, you know, I called this because, you know,
when it comes to covering the gaming and music IPs that notoriously affecting masses,
safe to say, I feel like we do a pretty good job over here, you know what I'm saying?
Come on, man.
Come on, Drusky.
they ain't got to do all that.
They ain't got to do all that, but make sure
rate this five stars.
But anyways, in all seriousness,
this is the end game
for the gaming industry.
I kid you not.
This reminds me of when an Infinity War,
Dr. Strange was looking at Iron Man,
and he basically was like,
we only have one outcome
when we come out on top.
And you know what that is?
It's group economics, ladies and gentlemen.
Now, what group economics mean?
All right, my fault.
I'm not going to preach to y'all,
but look that up on your own.
time. But I kid you not. Xbox laying off reportedly 3,200 jobs, 20% of his workforce throughout
the year of, well, throughout this year, and of course the year of 2027 is very telling for the
gaming industry because it would be different if all of the AI data centers wasn't being
manufactured and eating up all of the, basically increasing all the ramp prices and eating up
all of the jobs when it comes to actual humans being laid off by machinery, right?
So that is the main point that you have to look at.
When people talk about, man, what is the worst that AI could do?
You're looking at it.
You're looking at it.
It's not funny.
Just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
And ironic that Asha came from an AI company under Microsoft.
And now when it comes to her being the new Xbox CEO,
safe to say that she is having one of the most significant restructurings in Xbox history.
But then you know what I'm saying?
Like when you look at it in totality, Microsoft is laying off 48.
Oh, this is funny.
The little thing popped up.
Shout out to who is this, by the way.
Shout out to GameRanks for this video because obviously I do my own research, but shout out for the video on the background.
Analytic Dreams video on Spotify to see the video on the background.
But basically, back to all the same.
So Microsoft in totality laid off 4,800 people or they're going to.
2% of its global workforce.
Xbox accounts for 3,200 of those.
So I think not only is this a huge indication on where gaming is going, because,
prices are raising for every single console, right?
Then you have humans being laid off for AI.
Who told every single company they needed to be the next big AI?
The world may never know.
You guys.
See, that's the problem.
So humans are getting laid off by AI.
AI was supposed to be the savior of planet Earth.
It was supposed to make our lives easier.
And not only did it raise prices for PC parts,
not only did it lay off all type of,
humans because now the higher up executives that only care about greed and capitalism laying off
humans for AI, right?
But also, when you look at the gaming industry specifically, which is definitely an expensive
hobby, it's reached a point where either we're going to have group economics or there's
going to no longer be a middle class in gaming.
There's going to be the higher class and then there's going to be the lower class.
There's just going to be no middle class whatsoever.
because PlayStation did away with physical copies or they set to for January 2028.
Xbox is raising the prices for, well, it's Xbox, right?
PlayStation is raising the prices for its PS Plus.
Nintendo has already, was it Nintendo?
Am I my trip?
No, Steam has already showcased that the Steam machine is going to be overpriced for out-of-day hardware.
the gaming industry is in a very interesting place that I think can only be solved by group economics.
Now what do I mean by that?
Because games been flopping left and right, right?
We've had concours.
We had high guards out there.
We've had certain group economics when it comes to letting horrendous games flop, right?
But when it comes to a whole entire company, I think it's getting to that point where PlayStation is leading the pack by so much, not to sound like my video on 2024, but PlayStation is leading a pack by so much.
that if we don't like what Xbox is doing,
it may be over, man.
It may be over.
Just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
Hey, I'm probably thinking, what is the alternative?
I think at this particular time,
Xbox is not moving in a way of a company that's losing.
They're moving in a way of, oh, we still have next year.
We still have the next console generation.
Somebody needs to tell Xbox, hey, the clock is ticking.
You know what I'm saying?
on some Shadurr Sanders type B.
You know what I'm saying?
Look at your wrist and just know, it's almost,
it's almost up for Xbox
because PlayStation is leading the pack
by so much that even the next console generation
will have to be at least a 60-40 split
by the next-gen consoles from Xbox and PlayStation
specifically.
It had to be a 60-40 split,
60 to Xbox 40 to PlayStation
for them to even make up
for how horrendously they're losing
this current-gen console race.
And I don't like saying console race
like I'm choosing either side
because,
objectively speaking, I'm on a gamer side.
So when it comes to these companies, they compete so we have more pro-consumer tactics
for customers.
Ladies and gentlemen, if the worst company in console land that's losing by a landslide
when it comes to sales, more specifically, because you know, he got analytics for days.
More specifically, Xbox's operating margins is 3%, 3 to 10 times lower than their peers.
So if this is the company coming with anti-consumer practices,
what in the world are we going to do?
You know what I'm saying?
Just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
To put it in sports terms.
Why?
Because I know my audience.
To put it in sports terms.
It's almost as if you have one of the greatest players of all time, right?
You're trying to make the championship.
But then you come to realize, like, hold up now.
We're nowhere near the top of the cream of the crop when it comes.
comes to reaching the NBA finals.
Let's let our star player leave.
You probably think it to yourself.
See, that's the problem.
That's essentially what Xbox is doing.
They're losing horrendously to PlayStation
and what is their solution
to cut off an enormous amount of jobs,
no telling how many talented people is laid off
that could have made them a crazy amount of revenue
because is it the model or is it the talent
that's at fault for why you're operating
at the way that you're operating?
Because is it a live,
service enambered the is it because of the higher up execs being enamored by live service that you're failing or is it because of creatives not being able to actually make their game that they want to make every single time a talented studio makes a talented single player game you know the next thing that comes from that studio a live service it's almost as if they look at the bottom line they say we only need one this studio made a phenomenal
single player game.
Now I got to do it, man.
You know, it's going to hurt my heart, man.
Now it's going to hurt.
You know what I'm saying?
Now, if y'all can't tell,
there's a certain game that I'm a huge fan of, right?
When that specific company made the classic trilogy
called Mass Effect, right?
And then you come to realize
those higher-ups,
not only did they almost mess up
Mass Effect 3 completely by capitalism
and greed, but also
after they wanted a live service
from Byrware. You know what they came with?
And this is one of the greatest studios, in my opinion.
They came with Anthem.
You guys. See, that's the problem.
There's a lot of problems with how
higher-up execs look at
successful single-player games. Because I kid you not,
they're probably looking at Capcom saying to themselves,
you know what? It's about that time for
a pragmatic live service. You know what?
It's about that time for a Resident Evil
live service game. And to that,
I just, you know, I just don't like that, man.
I just don't like it, man.
I just don't like it, man.
I just don't like that shit, man.
Like, that stuff is creating the problems we have now.
And now the 4,800, no, my fault.
Yeah, the 4,800 total cuts that Microsoft is making is the cause of it.
So to go through all the numbers would be to let, you know, over here we do dive into analytics.
It's very depressing analytics that we're about to get into, I kid you not.
So if you don't like depressing news about the gaming industry, just know,
this is one of the more depressing times for the gaming industry.
I know you may think I'm exaggerating,
but these are whole humans that are being laid off
that was maybe the providers for their family.
Just think about that.
So now, when Xbox specifically is laying off 3,200 people,
and the rest of the gaming industry is acting like they're acting
as far as PlayStation laying off a bunch of people from Bungee.
I think I covered it.
Let me see.
So Bungee, as far as the Destiny 2 studio,
could be facing a 50% reduction in staff.
When it comes to PlayStation, let me just type in layoffs,
because I've covered so many layoffs in the game industry is insane.
Ubisoft was hit with layoffs.
Well, we understand.
My fault, I bet you.
No, come on, Ubisoft.
Let me see.
Basically, I think Warner Bros sold entirely, right?
Then they sell to Paramount or something like that.
Basically, well, the gaming industry wasn't even worry about Warner.
But I think when you look at Xbox's
revenue as far as the financial challenges let's start with that so they declined 5% year over
year during the quarter ending of march 2026 Xbox hardware revenue dropped 33% due to weak console sales
operating profit margins failed to approximately 3%. Microsoft previously projected 77 million
game pass subscribers by 2026 ladies and gentlemen you want to know how many no do they want to
know how many subscribers the game pass has right now 30 million
Oh, if you didn't hear me?
I said 30 million.
So anyways, when it comes to Xbox losing this footprint in the gaming industry expeditiously,
I think that this is a way of pressing the red button,
but it's due to the capitalism greed due to AI and live service games.
If there was two, if you don't get anything from this segment, I kid you not.
AI
and live service games
my brother
that's why we're in the situation
we're in now
I get you not
just look at the state of gaming
like what is going on
there's just no reason
why every single company
is out there
trying to be the next biggest AI
like at some point
somebody got to fail
because everybody losing
in jobs just so you can have
the biggest AI
AI dentist
we can't have Google
but now we can't have
we can't have perplexity
we can't have copilot.
Somebody got to fail because humans are getting laid off, left and right, because of these AI data centers, raising up the prices of RAM, having executive things they could replace humans with AI.
And in general, raising the overall price, because if you don't know, there's a certain war going on.
It's not political podcasts.
But the current state of the economy, prices are also raising, and let's just say, it's not political podcasts.
Let's, okay, let's stick the game in.
So anyways, when it comes to some of the studios, right?
Double fine productions is becoming independent.
They're keeping the intellectual property, receiving Microsoft funding as a runway for future games.
So I think that's a W, you know.
Even though you're laying off everyone in their mama, there is some sort of resemblance of a heart in Microsoft.
So compulsion games also are becoming independent with the IP attack.
Some of the gaming companies that sold to new owners, you have,
ninja theory the developer of hellblade sinuous sacrifice and sinuous saga hellblade two you have
undead labs developer of state of decay series so those are being sold to new owners uncertain um
this one hurts my heart man you know i kid you now i told you all this was going to be a depressing
segment but this one even even though i've already seen it it still hurt my heart i just don't like
it no i'm sorry i just don't like it i just don't like that shit man all right so basically
Cane Studios ladies and gentlemen.
You guys.
See, that's the problem.
The studio behind us, honor, death loop, pray, and
please pray.
Because if we don't get Marvel's blade,
I may just riot myself.
If we don't get blade,
y'all see me.
Come on now.
If we don't get blade.
Oh, man, I'm at the resort to
All right, so basically,
Blade is in jeopardy because Arcane Studios is their future is beyond uncertain, right?
They're undergoing strategic reviews in France and possible possible sale or restructuring.
I hope, I just hope that Xbox does the same thing they're doing with Ninja Theory and Undead Labs.
Hopefully they're just sell a soul to somebody else, like an NBA to bring up basketball terms again.
Hopefully they're able to just convert the contract for some picks, you know what I'm saying?
Like convert the Arcane Studios to somebody else for some picks instead of just laying off the whole studio because guess what?
You would be like, oh, why not just go independent?
Now, the crazy amount of budget that you had is cut significantly because you don't have the backing by Microsoft.
That is why I'm not advocating for them to go independent.
I would like them to still have the AAA budget for Blade because Blade deserves it.
As once upon a time, as a superhero nerd, superhero movies were not really.
respected until Wesley Black, uh, I'm tripping, Wesley Snipes, until Wesley Snipes's blade came out.
So if you ever wonder why people put so much respect on Blade is because before we was in the
land of MCU, whatever D.C. traveled there, whatever they traveled there. But basically,
before we got to the land of the MCU in the iconic Infinity War song, Wesley Snipes Blade was there to
showcase what a good superhero film could look like. And Blade,
as a character, it's just one of the most highly regarded black characters, black superheroes
in history, you know, along with Black Panther, etc. But bringing me back to the original point,
if Arcane Studios, if they get Blade taken away from them, can't say, man, I can't say it.
So anyways, getting into the major games, it's definitely not going to get touched.
Halo campaign involved is still underway. Gairs of War, E-Day is still underway. Microsoft,
I said Microsoft, Minecraft Dungeons, too, is underway. I know,
I know that's right.
You know what I'm saying?
Hey, I'm not going to cap to you.
It will be over for, I don't even have up my gaming charts.
It would be over for Xbox if they ever disrespect to Minecraft.
I kid you not.
Minecraft is consistently in the top 10 as far as Xbox bestselling games.
Yeah, it's number two right now.
The Minecraft, Java and Bedrock edition for PC is currently the second most played game on Xbox.
And it's always in the top five.
always and there's another addition no no usually it's two additions but um for right now they have
one but basically they're always in the top three you know what I mean and usually they have two
versions in the top 10 um the reason why I say that is because yeah they better keep continuing to
expand on Minecraft so Minecraft Dungeons 2 uh call a duty monor warfare 4 fable clockwork
revolution the elder scrolls six um it's still I guess that game's coming out
I, hey, they say it's not going to be touched.
I'm just going to believe them.
You know what I'm saying?
Even though Xbox has a very interesting pass of saying something will come out
and then completely just mutilating the studio.
So I want to take their words as law, right?
I would take it with a huge grain of salt.
So when you look at Microsoft,
Call of Duty, Minecraft, Candy Crush, Fallout, Halo, Gears of War, Forza,
age of empires. Those are the franchises you need to look at and say to yourself,
hmm, how can we expound upon this without anti-consumer practices? Because I kid you
not, AI and live service always rears his ugly head. And that's why we're in the situation
we're in right now. If you don't get anything else out of the segment, AI,
AI, say it with me, AI, live service games, AI, all right, they get it. All right, so anyways,
When it comes to Asha, I think what she's doing is some of the most cutthroat management I've ever seen.
I could you not.
I mean, any new CEO, I don't think we'll ever make this type of move.
I didn't look it up.
But actually, I'm going to look at it right now.
Because I don't know if we've ever seen this in the gaming industry.
Ever seen.
Got to do some Mickey Research, you know what I'm saying?
All right.
So basically, I had to look this up because I was thinking to myself, like, is this the most egregious?
layoffs and gaming history because we've covered all type of layoffs ladies and gentlemen to the point where
you would thought people getting laid off left and right well technically they were but um
because let me see because PlayStation warned us back on february 3rd 2024 when i covered previous
playstation CEO warns a further layoff citing unsustainability and triple a development expansion
safe to say two years later ayesha took that to heart now of course they i looked it up and
and gentlemen through my
Mickey research.
This is the single most,
yeah, this is the largest single
layoff in gaming history.
Man, what in the actual?
Shepard, just look at the state of gaming.
Like, what is going on?
The more I look at this, I just think about like history.
Like how we remember the month of June
and July in the year of 2026.
It's to the point where that's going to be,
we're going to look back and be like, wow,
they laid up how many people?
Like, yeah, man, it was a crazy time.
and we live in it, bro.
You got.
Yeah, we're in it right now.
So anyways,
this is going to be
a huge factor in PlayStation's the next moves
because they already had their anti-consumer practices,
but they're leading the pack.
At least they lead them, right?
At least they're number one.
It doesn't make it right.
You know, it doesn't make it right.
But we can understand while PlayStation is getting a little bold
with their anti-consumer practices.
They're leading the pack.
It's not even four to one.
In 2024, I said 4 to 1 as far as PS5, Xbox Series X and S.
Right now it's like 6 or 7 to 1.
It's egregious, bro.
Xbox Series X and S is going to go down as one of the worst performing consoles when it comes to sales ever.
So anyways, the reason why I say that is because what's stopping, I'm going to sound like myself in 2024,
what's stopping PlayStation from doubling down.
You know what?
We said no more physicals, but because Xbox's still out here tripping like they're not losing a 6 to 1, right?
as far as console sales.
We're going to keep tripping even more.
How about for the next two years,
you can only own a game
and not share it to anybody?
Because you know, there's certain ways
to get around as far as sharing games
and things of that nature,
which is, you know, how people, you know,
that's one of the ways people get around
the lack of physicals, right?
What if they start to crack down on that?
Now the world will definitely blow up.
You know what I'm saying?
It'd be crazy.
We are living in Fallout,
new Xbox, no cap, fallout new Xbox, Fallout,
Fallout, Asha Edition. Y'all get the point, man.
Shepard. Y'all get the point, man.
Just look at the state of gaming. Like, what is going on?
There's nothing positive about all of these layoffs. You don't need me to tell you that,
but I just wanted to break it down in totality because of course,
when you look at January 2024, there was 1900 layoffs about 9% of the Xbox workforce.
Blizzard canceled Project Auditty, right? May 2024 Studios closed. That was
Arcane Austin, Tango, GameWorks, Alpha Dog, Roundhouse merged into Zine Xenimax online.
September 2024, if you had an additional 650 layoffs.
Think about the numbers that we're hearing right now.
1900, okay, that's huge, right?
650, okay, that's still huge, right?
Microsoft, in total, you know, up to that point, was laying off like around 9,000 plus jobs, right?
And that's a lot, you know, as far as collectively.
not at one time but as far as collectively and then now as of right now july 2026 Xbox she lays off
3200 people 40 20% of his workforce for studios leave Xbox arcane is still under review like what
in the actual you guys see that's the problem that is why i had to look it up to see if this was one of
the biggest like gaming layoffs in history and that's why i'm spending so much time on it because
you know as far as a platform that covers the gaming and music IPs that notoriously affect the masses these are the
type of subject matters that you have to highlight and reiterate time and time again so that gamers
understand that a company is always going to have their best interest at heart right but this is
getting egregious i mean y'all get into the point y'all just said to you know what with the consumer
y'all just like if y'all can't afford it if y'all not willing to pay egregious prices for out-of-day
hardware and we beat dee folk woe de do we beat them we go forward now
as far as Asha statement
I would read it but I ain't gonna lie
it's like a whole book
Nobody got time for that
Basically she let them know that hey
I'm gonna be transparent
In how I'm laying out 3200 y'all
And everybody was cool with it
I was like man what type of world
I kid you not
Everybody was like oh my goodness
Asha's so transparent
I kid you not
None of them probably work for Xbox
If you are provided for your family
And just got
If you was one of those 3200
You wouldn't have been saying that
Oh she's so transparent
and the way she took away my livelihood.
Like, what in the world?
Why is people making excuses?
I just don't get it.
I just don't get it.
I'm probably with Microsoft.
You know, I did give advice, and I don't know if they heard it.
Probably not.
But when it comes to the game pass,
y'all remember, I talked about this before.
But basically, I remember giving them advice
when Asha took over.
I was talking about Phil Spencer.
It's a Phil Spencer segment that happened.
Let me see if I can find it.
February 27, 26.
When I talked about the Phil Spencer,
Sarah Bond, the Xbox crisis explained.
So February 27,
2026, I talked about the game pass
and how they should lower the prices.
And, you know, I'm not saying they listen to you, boy.
Wish they sure.
You know what I'm saying?
Nothing too crazy.
Come on, Driskey.
Stop that, Drisky.
Anyways.
But when it comes to Xbox specifically,
April 26, 2026, when I covered them,
slashing the game pass ultimate price
by $7 and removing the call-at-duty perk,
I was like, you know what?
That's a step in the right direction.
we're not taking steps back
we're taking leaves
we're taking whole
Superman jumps
whole Hulk jumps back
it's a sad dang history man
you guys
see that's the problem
what is a
one step forward
two steps back
well we took one step forward
and she started back
flipping all the way to the back
I was like hold up now
is that black widow
uh my fault
so
to wrap this up
the main thing I want to let you all in on
is that
group economics once again
I'm not going to explain it because I want to bore you all to death
but just know the only way to take over as consumers
as of right now because PlayStation and Xbox they're just doing whatever
they just it's a PG podcast but they just they let you know
bro they're like bro what you what you're going to do about it
what you're going to do about it
just look at the state of gaming
so basically the way that we could do something about it
is group economics now there's unions
there's a lot of different
websites where you can sign
petitions and
there's discourse you can join
and collectively
we can affect the masses. I know I say that
for my podcast outro every single time
for the episodes. But basically
group economics
is a real thing
because
when you're looking in the past
I mean just look at what they did with T and Boston.
Think about that as far as group economics. You come together
you make a real stance on a company to the point
where they have no choice, but they give you some type of pro-consumer marketing or pro-consumer
conclusion or solution. So in closing, I don't like talking about, you know, I don't like talking
about obstacles or different type of problems in the gaming industry without giving a solution. The
solution is to band together and declare that this is war because you're not.
Shepard, just look at the state of gaming, like, what is going to be a
on. So with that being
said, click my link to read my bio to follow
me on my social medias and
if you don't Spotify, just let me know.
Just let me know. How are you feeling? Are you
okay? And what do you believe
needs to happen as far as the group
economics for us to band together and fight
back as far as the war
on capitalism and greed?
