Spotify just announced today on August 20th that it will be commencing a stock repurchase program beginning in the third quarter of 2021, where they will buy back $1 billion of stock from shareholders. CSEC has acquired the majority of the streaming royalties collection agency Audium from Socan. The godfather of ADA David Orleans is transitioning into a new chairman emeritus role at the Warner-owned company. Sarah Wilson has been named as head of TuneCore UK with additional oversight over Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. Madonna and Warner Music Group have announced a career-spanding global partnership that includes a new agreement for her entire recorded music catalog. The U.S.-based DIY distribution platform DistroKid confirmed this week that it has accepted an investment from Insight Partners, which values it at $1.3 billion.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Moonbug Entertainment has inked an exclusive global partnership deal with Universal Music Group. California will be requiring proof of vaccination for large indoor events starting September 20th. Warner Music Group's ADA Asia has entered into a partnership with Barameh production, a premium music company that specializes in original Cambodian talent. According to the announcement, agreement marks the first time a label from Cambodia has signed a deal with an international record company. United Masters is now offering $1 million advances for indie artists. Warner Chapel has signed 18-year-old UK rap producer C. Beets. The young female producer is making a name for herself thanks to her work with artists and producers such as A.J. Tracy, Digadie, J.B. Made It,
Starting point is 00:02:18 and many more. Buck's music group has signed songwriter Sasha Scarbeck to a worldwide administration deal. Scarbeck is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, producer, film score, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for co-writing James Blunt's hit singles, You're Beautiful, Goodbye My Lover, and Wiseman, as well as Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball and Adele's Cold Shoulder. Black Pink, the movie, has become the highest-grossing cinema release of 2021 with a total gross of $4.8 million. Byrndop, the longtime chairman and CEO of Warner Music Central Europe, is leaving Warner Music Group after 37 years.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Greg Camp of Smashmouth has signed two deals with Embassy Music Corporation, part of Wise Music Group. The first assigns Camp shares of all Smashmouth songs and the second is a co-publishing deal for all new compositions, co-writes, and scores. Only fans just announced that they will be banning pornographic videos. Nude photos and videos will still be allowed on the platform best known for its sexually explicit content. Starting point is 00:03:33 to Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Capital Music Group. Nine Inch Nails has canceled all 2021 performances due to COVID-19 concerns. Foo Fighters have received the 2021 MTV VMA's Global Icon Award. Phoebe Bridger's Dead Ocean Satisfactory imprint has signed Charlie Hickey for records. Sally Boy has signed with Loud Robot RCA Records, making him the second artist to be signed to the imprint since moving from Capitol to RCA. Jack Harlow, alongside his manager, Chris Thomas, has signed with Range Media Partners. Maroon 5 will be the first major U.S. act to perform in Canada after border reopening on September 2nd. The EMI publishing exec, Pat Lucas, has sadly passed away at the age 77.

At that point, Blink was starting to take off. And I was kind of in this situation where Blink would be touring. You know, we'd have like a Friday, Saturday show, L.A. San Diego. And then we'd have next weekend it'd be, you know, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, or something weird, you know. And we just started touring a little further and further away. And the weekend started getting longer and I started getting worse grades in school.
Starting point is 00:05:13 And I went to my mom after a while. And I'm like, look, I'm either going to fail out of college or I'm going to pursue this band. or I'm going to quit the band. So what should I do? And she said, you know, you can go back to college any time that you want for the rest of your life. You only get one chance to be in a band. So one should do that.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And that's what I did.
