You've had Wendy's Nugs dipped in sauce,
but have you had them covered in sauce?
Wendy's new saucy Nugs,
take the crispy and spicy Nugs you love
and turn them up to 11.
Choose between flavors like buffalo,
honey barbecue, garlic, parm,
or if you're a real heat seeker,
try spicy ghost pepper, I dare you.
Only on Wendy's signature spicy Nugs.
That's seven delicious ways to try the Nugs
you already love,
because remember you have the spicy option on your Buffalo
Honey Barbecue and Garlic Parm.
I recommend all three of those.
Pick a flavor, grab some extra napkins,
and prepare to nug like you have never nugged before.
For a holdaway to nug, it's gotta be Wendy's
at Participating US Wendy's.
Welcome to Andy and Ariane 3.
Happy Wendy's Saucy Take Wednesday.
We are presented of course by Wendy's.
We do have Saucy Takes.
It is my turn to deliver the Saucy Takes this week.
I have three coming up later in the show,
but Ari's gonna give us a bonus one
because he is still
pissed off from last night. He wrote a strongly worded letter
to the Playoff Selection Committee and I am I'm here for
it. Ari, what you got? I think that Wendy should sponsor it
should be saucy take Wendy's day because it's like they're kind
of spelled the same similarly Wendy's. You we can, we can make that happen.
It's our show.
So we're going to be, we can rebrand this Wendy's saucy take Wendy's day.
Yeah.
Um, okay.
So obviously I'm a person on earth and you're a person on earth.
And it was impossible after I was done writing this column last night to escape
what was on television last night, right?
Like we are all in this country watching
who is gonna be the next president of the United States.
I was watching the diplomat on Netflix
and following along.
Were you really?
Yes. Yes.
I wanted to watch Shrinking with my wife,
but she wanted to watch the results
because I guess it is just an important thing
to be aware of.
But anyway, I'm a very, anybody who knows me knows,
I'm just not a political person at all.
But it occurred to me as I was watching this on TV and arguing with people on
Twitter about the playoff that the politics
Psyche and the college football psyche are the exact same
the only thing that people can see feel think and want are
What they find true to them.
So in politics, you have your candidate,
you have your platforms,
and whatever information you consume
that supports what you already think or feel
is the candidate that you're probably gonna like,
and everything they do is right,
and everything the other candidate does is wrong.
In college football, in the playoff system,
you have a favorite team, and the only way that you can
process and analyze information is through the lens
of what it means for your favorite team.
So like for me, I like to think,
even though people agree and disagree sometimes
that I'm an unbiased view at this.
I don't care where Penn State's ranked
and I don't care where Indiana is ranked.
I think it should be just.
And when I looked at the rankings last night, Andy, and to a certain extent, the same goes for SMU.
I do not understand why Penn State is ranked higher than Indiana.
It's only two spots.
And yes, before we go deeper into this, I understand that Indiana gets to play Ohio State.
Things will work itself out. But I still happen to think that the rankings, when they're made, shouldn't rely on, well,
it's going to work itself out. I think they should be accurate in the moment. If we're
going to discuss these things and put the time and the effort to have a show and write
about it, that this is an important thing to get right in the moment. And I don't think that this was right. And the one metric Andy, that
I have her thriller, that Penn State has an advantage in, in this area over SMU and Indiana
is strength of schedule, right? Like we can't, strength of record, we can't go through the
segment without a goal.
And strength of schedule, yes. Their schedule to this point has been harder than Indiana's
and harder than SMU's.
But the thing that I don't understand
about the ranking, Andy, is that what is more important?
How you performed in the games or the secondary metrics
that go and show you how impressive your resume is?
I'm not here to argue that Penn State's record
or record or strength of record is not harder than Indiana's,
but what we've seen from these two teams is on one hand with
Penn State, they've played a relatively easy schedule. They
have no quality wins in terms of top 25 teams that are
in the playoff committees rankings and they have lost at
home the only game against a good team that they've played.
Meanwhile, Indiana has not lost.
They've played a bad easy schedule.
They got a very good draw from the Big Ten, but they have
beaten every single person or every team on their schedule by 14 or
more points, including a 47-0 run against Michigan State on Saturday.
I understand and realize that Indiana does get to play Ohio State in a few weeks.
I understand that their strength of record will go up when they play Ohio State.
But the number one selling point for Penn State right now, Andy, is that they played a really good team tough.
They're number one.
Keep saying strength of record. I think when you mean strength of schedule, strength of record is what the average team would do against this schedule.
And so let me ask you this.
If Penn State played Indiana schedule, would Penn State also be undefeated and also have?
Pretty resounding wins in those games.
I think that they would have a chance to be right like we can't
just play the assumption game. No, but that's what strength of
record is that's that's what it tries to determine. But here
here's what I want to strength of schedule. I read a lot about this on on Twitter, is that if Indiana played Penn State's schedule, they would have lost to and it's like, okay, that's possible. Do we know that? And also, if you do think that the USC would have beaten Indiana? Yeah, and I also don't know
beating Indiana. Yeah. And I also don't know
that Ohio State's going like, are you at the point right now where it's a guaranteed loss that Indiana will lose to Ohio
State? I think Ohio State's probably gonna win, but I don't
think that it's guaranteed. It's not a guarantee based on the
way Indiana is playing. It's not a guarantee. I also don't know
that Penn State would even beat Indiana head to head. So for the
time being, if at the end of the road,
we have all the results in there and Penn State lost to Ohio State by the same margin and you
want to rank them ahead at the end of the road, that makes sense to me. So that would make sense
to me, but doing it now doesn't make any sense because I don't know. Like, so let me ask you
though, Andy, because I need to understand this. Cause if I'm not understanding this correctly, this is a perfect form to figure it out.
What is more important resume wise for Penn State?
Its strength of schedule or its record?
Like, why are we prioritizing their-
Yes, they're both important.
What's more important?
Both.
Because if you play an easy schedule, we don't know if you would have lost if you'd played a harder schedule. Like that's that's the thing. Like that's why we need to see Indiana against Ohio State.
But at the time being, where should they be?
We need to know what they look like against a good team.
Knowing that we're going to get that gift, where should they be right now?
Right about where they are. So you think that the ranking is correct?
I don't care.
Oh, I care.
I want to close enough like SMU.
I think SMU has a better argument.
So let's break that down.
Yes, let's let's do a little blind resume.
We made some blind resume cards.
Go ahead.
Team a team the team. Team A is 7-1. The
Sagron strength of schedule is 32. The FBI strength of schedule is 28. The record versus
the Sagron top 30 is 1-1. And the scoring differential is plus 146. Team B is 8-1. Their Sagran strength of schedule is 60.
Their FBI strength of schedule is 71.
Their record versus the Sagran top 30 is also 1-1.
And their scoring differential is plus 165.
So those two teams are pretty similar.
Team C, record 9-0.
Sagran strength of schedule 81.
FBI strength of schedule 103,
record versus the Sager in top 30, zero and zero.
They have not played anybody in the top 30 yet.
Scoring differential plus 296,
they're kicking the crap out of everybody.
So I think you know who team C is,
but which one is team A and which one is team B?
Is this where I'm supposed to talk?
Team A is Penn State, right?
And team B is Penn State.
Team B is SMU.
Yeah, so I think Penn State and SMU are pretty close.
Now Indiana is also pretty close,
so like why is SMU?
Down there at 13.
Yeah, if you feel this way about Penn State and Indiana.
And SMU is part of the column, but it's like also too, you know, Penn State's schedule
is better than SMU's, right?
But SMU's is better than Indiana's.
Right.
But with SMU, they have two wins against teams that the committee thinks are better
than any of the teams that Penn State has beaten. They rank true those teams.
And they are lower than Indiana even.
And they are lower at 13. They're seven spots behind Penn State. And when you look at the
blind resumes, like I think that
the scoring differential for Indiana is really impressive. Like I think that stuff matters too.
But when you look at the the team A to team B side by side, that's not a seven spot difference,
right? Like that's just. And really the only difference is is that the Penn State happened
to play Ohio State. And both of their losses are very close losses to very good teams.
So SM uses a three point loss to BYU, which is currently undefeated.
So, and I'm not trying to pick on Penn State.
Like Penn State's a really good football team and they're going to have plenty of
opportunity to prove it and they're probably going to make the playoff.
I just think that like, if your number one thing is getting it right and thinking it through.
I just happened to think that we should get it right every week.
And this is wrong.
Like it doesn't seem right to me.
So here's what I, here's what I think is going to happen.
Cause I think the committee messed up here and they know they messed up.
And so if Indiana blows Michigan's doors off and that Washington Penn state game is close, you're going to see a little little tweak tweak and they're going to go. Well, we thought
Indiana is impressive performance against Michigan.
Made them look better and then Penn State struggled with Washington
whether it was a struggle or not. If it's like semi close, they'll say that
so that they will use that as an opportunity to,
I think they know they messed up here.
Okay.
It is a logo thing, and it's funny
because Penn State doesn't have a helmet logo.
Yeah, it's not a logo.
This is logo discrimination, Ari,
because SMU, if you've been watching this show,
you know how I feel.
SMU has the coolest helmet logo in America.
And I think the committee members,
the old school guys on the committee
are jealous of that pony.
They want a plain, white, boring, no logo helmet
and they can't handle the speed of that pony.
I think that there is also a misunderstanding, too,
of like the logo thing.
It's not about Penn State's logo.
It's about SMU and Indiana's logo.
Correct.
I think that's what we have to realize, too.
It's like Indiana and SMU, I think if SMU's resume was LSU's,
they would be in the top seven.
I think that that's real.
And the number one thing that these teams are afraid of
is being treated unjustly as a result of their logo
or their perception as a program.
SMU being in its first year in a power conference
and Indiana having not been a really good football team
since like the Beatles were making records.
I get it.
I think Indiana, I'll say this with a straight face.
I think Indiana is a better football team
than Penn State this year. And I think that Indiana I'll say this with a straight face, I think Indiana is a better football team than Penn State this year.
And I think that Indiana has a chance to play
with Ohio State on the road in two weeks.
Like, if this is a truly just world,
we'll get an Indiana Penn State first round game
that can just decide this for us.
Like that would be amazing.
And like at the end of the year,
the nine or the seven, 10,
when we have the complete information and listen,
I think the committee does a great job, right?
Like I'm not one of these like committee sucks people.
I think they have made the right decision
every single year except last year
and last year you couldn't win.
Like last year that was somebody was gonna get screwed
and there was no way around it.
That was the first time it was ever gonna happen.
So I just like, it just didn't sit well with me
that Indiana who has done everything,
gone above and beyond everything they possibly could imagine
to get to this point and plays in the same exact conference
as Penn State is penalized.
And they think that their schedule is a bigger factor
than the strength of schedule
that Penn State is bolstered by in a loss. The best thing on Penn
State's on Penn State's resume right now is a loss. That can't be the thing that holds your program up. I'm sorry. It just can't
like I that's just how I view it. So again, it'll work itself out. And at the end of the road, when we get to 12 in December, I'm
sure they'll get it right. But this was wrong in my opinion.
I think you're gonna see a tweet next week.
I really do.
Are we got more saucy takes later in the show?
I cannot guarantee that any of my takes
will be as saucy as Ari.
Cause Ari's been simmering that sauce all night.
And it came out pretty ghost pepper hot.
But you know what to cool you down,
nice bottle of Huel, black edition.
35 grams of protein, 27 vitamins and minerals.
I know exactly what's in here.
When I drink this for breakfast,
I know exactly what I'm getting in my body
and it helps me set up perfectly for the rest of my day.
I love Huel.
You can do the chocolate, you can do the vanilla.
It's perfectly balanced nutrition,
and you can just grab it and go when you're busy.
And that is amazing.
No more skip meals, no more unfulfilling snacks.
Huel makes it easy with nutrition that fits into your life.
So right now go to Huel.com, that's H-U-E-L.com.
Use the code staples and get 15% off your first order.
So Huel.com, code staples, 15% off your first order.
You might want to throw in one of those Huel t-shirts
because I'm telling you,
they're the best workout t-shirts in the world.
But Huel.com, code staples, 15% off.
I know you're busy.
Me too. Grab a Huel, go. You're good to go. Alright Ari, before we go into my saucy takes, we gotta talk a little bit about what's going
on. And actually, we are not a political show. You guys know that you come here for a refuge
from politics, but I will tell you the results of the election
will affect college sports. So we're going to talk for about 30 seconds to a minute about why that's
going to happen. So here's the deal right now, as we know. Now things have not all sifted out,
so we don't exactly know how it's going to work. But the Republicans have the White House,
the Republicans now have the Senate. They have a very slim majority in the Senate now.
We don't yet know who has the House.
If the Republicans retain control of the House,
then they will have both
chambers of commerce,
chambers of commerce,
chambers of Congress,
and the White House, which will allow
them to pass laws
much easier.
There are guys like Ted Cruz, who's Republican Senator from Texas, who won
re-election last night. He'll be the head of the Senate Finance Committee.
He is very interested in what's going on in college sports. Some of the stuff the schools want,
because he's on their side, could pass more easily. You could see them maybe get an antitrust exemption.
You could see them get some of the things they want in terms of guardrails for NIL.
Now I don't know if it's like it's not going to be them plunging it back to 1995.
They can't do that now.
The House versus the NCAA settlement won't let them do that.
Even though the Republicans now control the Senate, it's not by much.
So if there's one person, two people that are a little off on that or
don't care at all and just want to mess it up, it's not going to be as easy to just say,
here's what we want.
So you may have to be a little bit bipartisan still.
And also you do need to remember the single most conservative justice on the Supreme Court,
Brett Kavanaugh, went more hard than anybody on the NCAA
on in the Alston trial. So it's not a slam dunk that if Republicans have control of both houses
of Congress that the schools will get everything they want, but they probably will get some of
what they want. So we'll see, we'll see how that goes.
Probably the idea of athletes as employees
would go by the wayside, at least for a little while.
And I think you saw, you know,
some of the people that work with the athletes,
that represent the athletes, they said a few months ago,
hey, we'd be willing to negotiate
even if they aren't employees.
And so that also would probably take a carve out
from Congress to say, hey, you can collectively bargain
with these guys even if they're not employees.
So that's something to watch as well.
Ant, former Michigan basketball player, Ant Wright,
an expanded article on this will do really well.
Yes, I think you're gonna see one of those
from our guy, Pete Nacos coming today. So yes, thank you for watching. Appreciate it. But this is going to be a very interesting next few months. So like, we'll see how the house shakes out. But if the Republicans retain control of the house, then it would swing things back in favor of the schools more than likely. Now you still have.
These names are so confusing. House versus the NCAA settlement has nothing to do with the House of Representatives, the plaintiff
in the trials last name was House. But that settlement has already been agreed to. The revenue sharing from the schools is
already going to happen. Schools have already agreed to pay the players. So, I don't think you're gonna see that get walked back. I just think you
you may see the schools get some of what they want in terms
of putting some restrictions on things. But we'll see. But that
is your uh that's your politics minute. That's that's all we're
doing. That's how it affects this. Ari's muted. He he doesn't
even know. He's not a political person. That's all it affects this. Ari's muted. He doesn't even know.
He's not a political person.
That's all there is to it.
What I was gonna say is,
we're gonna have a politics minute on every episode
moving forward for the rest of the year.
Oh, we are?
You wanna just drive all the viewers away?
No, I just, you do it, and then I'm gonna to go take a short bathroom break and then I'll be back.
You know, I don't want to do it either.
Yeah, we're not doing that.
Don't worry.
So we just want you to know that we appreciate you being here and I and you need to know that like this is a safe space from that stuff. Like we really do want to focus on football, recruiting, firing coaches,
hiring coaches, like this is what we enjoy this like for me, and I'm sure I
speak for you too, Andy, like this is like one of my best hours of the day.
Just sitting here and talking football with you.
So like we will maintain that.
The reason why we discussed it even for, you know, 90 seconds today is that this
is happening in the country that is going to have an impact on the thing that we love.
So thanks for bearing with us.
Newser River with a new graphic idea, by the way, just texted us.
Zero days since Ari had a mic issue. Yes, we're going to make a chart. We're going to make a sign like they have at the job site.
Zero days since an accident. Zero days since an accident,
zero days since Ari's mic issue.
So here's what's happening to my mic.
And I actually like, I've been thinking
about getting a new one.
So I have it on the stand like yours,
I have to hold it like a crazy person.
You can get a stand without getting a new mic.
Well, then I'd have to put it together
and Andy, we know we're not doing that.
So, but the cord, I think, is getting sensitive because I keep holding it up and down and it keeps hitting.
So I need to get a new cord.
What are you doing?
You keep doing what now?
Show us.
I'm not doing that again.
I'm not doing that again.
All right.
What one guy who every time he gets near a mic, it's absolutely electrifying is
Mike Gundy. Mike Gundy in front of a microphone, you know, from the moment he was a man in
40 has just been an adventure every single time that happened again. Monday he had his
teleconference for the week and look, Oklahoma State is not having the season
that we thought they were going to have. We went in thinking that they would be a
favorite in the new Big 12. They have just it's been a disaster. They won their
first three. They have lost six in a row. They are. Winless in Big 12 play. They
got doubled up by Arizona State at home last week. Now they go to TCU this week.
So Mike Gundy was talking about, he actually, this is,
and I like providing the context for the things
you've seen the little snippet of.
So this is about 18 minutes into a Q&A session
where Mike Gundy gave some really thoughtful answers
about what is
going on in Oklahoma State, why things aren't working, put
it in historical perspective about, you know, this is the
type of year that that Oklahoma State used to have almost
every year, including right before he played there and early when he played there.
But then he said this.
This place has had tremendous success for 18 and a half years or 19. I can't do the math real good.
And so unfortunately in life, most people are weak.
And as soon as things start to not go as good
as what they thought, they fall apart and they panic.
And then they wanna point the finger
and blame other people that you see it happen
in everyday life.
People do it all the time.
That's why I refuse to watch the TV and watch the news
because I get tired of people complaining
and bitching about this and that
versus just doing something about it
and trying
to figure out a way to make it better.
Well that's what happens in college athletics and as Jenny said, she's exactly right.
It's just on the bigger stage where people can voice their opinion.
And in most cases, the people that are negative in the voice and their opinion are the same
ones that can't pay their own bills.
They're not taking care of themselves.
They're not taking care of their own bills. They're not taking care of themselves. They're not taking care of their own family. They're not taking care of their their their own job, but they have an obligation to speak out and
complain about others because it makes them feel better. But then in the end, when they go to bed
at night, they're the same failure that they were before they said anything negative about anybody else.
So Draco asks, what did he say wrong? Here's what he said wrong.
The people paying for tickets to Oklahoma State games who are complaining
because their team keeps losing.
Well, they have jobs.
They have money to spend and they're spending it on Oklahoma State football, which is losing.
And if you're Mike Gundy calling people losers who are mad because they've spent their hard-earned
money on a product that you're responsible for and you're not giving them a quality product this year, that's not good.
I also think too, like,
that you can say things that are true
or some things that are true to a certain extent in the wrong setting.
Like there are just people out there,
like my entire Twitter feed is filled with miserable people
being able to say terrible things
who are probably the biggest losers
on the face of the earth.
But in this setting, it is received as you calling your fans losers.
Yes.
And you have to know what the time and place is. And I don't know if I'm alone in this, Andy.
But when you are having a bad year, and then you start complaining about the people complaining
I almost feel like you are doing the thing that you're complaining about
right like so like yeah sometimes you have to eat the shit just eat it
sometimes you just eat the shit yeah this is one of those times you've lost
six in a row you haven't won a gaming conference you got to eat it this time
it's like us. So,
or me specifically. So I put out a tweet when I was arguing with some Colorado fans in the off season. Let's talk in November. I'll show you. Well, guess what? It's November. They were right.
I was wrong. Colorado is good. I gotta eat it. I can fight them
still but what good does that do? They were right.
Yeah. And like I think that the people who listen to the show,
or just people who consume media in general, know, and hopefully
they know that like, it's not really our jobs to be 100%
accurate into the future. And I don't know that like it's not really our jobs to be 100% accurate into the future.
And I don't know, like journalism used to be chronicling what has already happened.
And in sports, it's become projecting the future a lot of the time.
And projecting the future, guys, is really, really hard.
I don't know if you notice this.
There's an entire industry built around taking advantage of people who think they can do that, um, including me. Uh, so like, I think that like taking the blame or eating the shit to borrow
your words is a admirable thing to do.
Like I go out and put myself out there a lot, Andy.
I say things on the show.
I write about things all the time that turned out to not have been true or been
accurate in terms of how it turned out.
And like, I think it's a relief to be like,
all right guys, you were right on this one.
I messed that up.
Or, hey guys, that prediction was terrible.
And I think that people respect that too.
So like the idea of like that rant to me,
it's like, what would have been more well received?
That rant or him saying,
we've had a lot of success over the years.
Here are the three things that I think we could have done
better this year.
It's on me to fix it.
We'll get this thing back on track.
Would have been better.
Which he actually said, like that first 18 minutes,
he said that.
And, but that doesn't,
that doesn't grab anybody's attention.
Now, Mike Gundy did think over what he said,
and he put this out last night.
Apologize to those who my comments during Monday's media call offended. My intent was not to offend
any of our fans who supported us in this program through the years. That's the thing.
You can't say that about the dedicated paying customers. You can certainly say that about us,
like, because we're the enemy anyway. And if we're, if we're bagging on the program and hating on
the program, then by all means, you can go after us because
you can galvanize the fan base against us and that works,
but you can't go after the people who pay their money to
support your program.
Yeah.
And your salary.
Yeah.
Because you know how that goes in the state. So, uh, the
lesson here, I guess, is you can think it like, you know what I'm going to do though? I'm going
to take that clip. Like, I don't know if you have it, just send it to me anytime anybody tweets,
like a personal insult or anything. No, no, not the clip of me saying eat this. I want to the
Gundy clip that I can repost on Twitter. Like that's perfect.
Calling him a loser. So, yeah, you get paid a lot of money to win and winning isn't just we,
what have I done for you in the past? Like winning is a constant, just like your salary is. Like if
you're having a tough year, just like you said, eat the shit, move on. Like that's the way I view it.
So I don't know that I think that everything
that he just said is true.
I think there are a lot of miserable people out there
that have miserable lives who say miserable things
to people on the internet.
And I feel bad for those people,
but Oklahoma State fans aren't those people.
So-
Yeah, the people buying front row seats
and slapping with the paddles, they're not, they care.
They're trying to have a good time.
Yeah.
Yeah, and they're spending their disposable income that they're not there. They care. They're trying to have a good time. Yeah. Yeah. And they're spending their disposable income
that they've earned on you.
So respect that.
That's all it is.
You guys just got to respect that.
And by the way, I need to understand that too.
Like the folks in the chat,
spending their valuable time with us.
I need to respect that.
So I think we all can learn from that.
But that's what I, with the Colorado thing,
I did a couple earlier this week
where I was like kind of fighting back on it.
Now I realize, no, not fighting back.
Like they're right.
I was wrong.
It's okay.
I don't have to keep fighting.
I lost.
Yeah. You know the biggest struggle I have, Andy, is that when people talk to you in a very disrespectful, not you, I mean like to me and you, in a very disrespectful way, I am not in a position
to say how I think a lot. Like I can't respond and talk to them the way they're talking to me.
Um, and that, that ekes at me because if somebody treated me that way in my personal life, like I would have a different response probably.
So like I understand and you understand that part of this job is to take that criticism.
understand and you understand that part of this job is to take that criticism. People love to take screenshots of, you know, your messages and post them eight
months later and pretend like they're the smartest people in the world and all
that stuff. It happens all the time. Just let them have their moment. If 12 clicks
makes them have their 12 likes on their little tweet makes them feel better, then
just let them have it. You know, like that's just it. You can't bog yourself
down with that stuff.
We're doing the best we can guys.
We have love in our hearts.
And-
I feel like you're talking to yourself here.
But it's true.
It's like, there are times where like,
I will get a tweet and I'll just like,
want to go through the phone
and like freak out at that person.
But I gotta let it go.
So anyway.
Yeah. And don't let, it's tough.
I will say, because everybody's like this.
And I can't imagine, I was thinking about this
the other day.
I would think I was reading an Adam Schefter tweet
or an Ian Rappaport tweet.
And imagine if those guys read every single one
of their replies.
It would be just demoralizing.
It would be awful.
Like Pat McAfee or somebody with a massive following.
Like it would be absolutely demoralizing.
So you've got to...
I just don't know why everybody's so angry.
It's like the chief set or like the main setting
or the default setting of people on Twitter is angry
and hateful.
And I just don't understand that.
Well, I think you sort of go with Twitter's kind of angry and hateful,
but also it's made for news junkies because it's chronological.
So that's why I prefer it.
Instagram's a little bit happier, although it's kind of like a step
for situation where look at, look at my perfect life.
Cause I created this to look this way.
Uh, tick tock.
I'm not 14, so I don't understand
that. You know, it just depends. Let's talk about, I just mentioned the Colorado thing.
Let's talk about the Buffaloes for a second. Double O'Neal says, not sure why
they want to keep propping up Colorado like that. They're more deserving teams than you make an
argument for someone that low. Double O'Neal well also asked how did Colorado go from being the butt of every joke to now
being some kind of dark horse favorite from the big 12 because they have a chance
to win the big 12 they're literally winning.
Yeah.
Yes.
They like if they beat Texas tech this week, there's a really good chance that
Colorado can make the big 12 championship game.
They still need Iowa state to lose.
really good chance that Colorado can make the big 12 championship game. They still need Iowa state to lose.
But again, I think Iowa state may have trouble with Kansas this week.
Kansas state plays Iowa state.
That's another one, but you've also got, I mean, there's a lot going on.
Now Kansas state already lost again, like Kansas state has two big 12 losses.
If Colorado keeps winning, they're lost to Kansas state does not matter
in terms of the tiebreaker.
So double O'Neill, they do not need two teams to lose.
They need one.
They need Iowa state.
It's very, very possible that by Sunday afternoon, they are in control of their
big 12, uh, now that there there's there's another thing.
When we get to my saucy takes, we'll we'll talk about that.
But let's talk about this game Colorado, Texas Tech, Chador
Sanders specifically. Let's look at it through the lens of
our friends at prize picks. If you're not already playing
prize picks best daily fantasy game in America, download the
app, use the code staples, play $5, get $50 instantly.
So let us talk about Shador Sanders going into this week. Because Shador Sanders having
a great season, but his passing yardage number on prize picks this week is 327 and a half.
And you say you think he will throw for more than that or less than that. That is a big, big number.
More than that is a lot of yards. So Ari, do you think that's doable in the wins of Lubbock?
That's a lot of yards, Andy.
Like I think Shadour could throw for 275
and have an amazing game and win.
Like that is, that is a lot of yards.
So my gut feeling is that I think he's going to play great.
And I think Colorado is going to win.
But I think it might be in the 300 range.
I'd probably go less than here.
I think I would go more than and I'll tell you why.
Texas Tech has given up more than that three times.
They gave up 506 passing yards to Abilene Christian,
426 to Cincinnati, 344 to TCU.
When they've played fairly good quarterbacks, the quarterbacks have been efficient and
they have thrown for a bunch.
Shador Sanders has better receivers and is a better quarterback than anybody they've
played. Has better receivers and is a better quarterback than anybody they've played
Like Colorado might lose this game But if they lose this game is because Texas Tech and barren Morton have a huge game and it's a shootout now
Like the Texas Tech Iowa State game
It was a little bit limited offensively, but the weather was horrific in Ames
Like it was not conducive to a to a to a shootout
This is this is a different situation, but here's what scares me Andy in Ames. Like it was not conducive to a shootout.
This is a different situation. But here's what scares me Andy.
And you know I'm not big on fluff,
but Texas Tech is still technically alive
in the big 12 race.
This would be a huge win for them.
They're coming off a very big win.
That place is gonna be rocking.
Like are we not expecting Texas Tech's
like best possible game? We are and if you're wondering what the weather is it's
going to be a beautiful day in Lubbock high 65 low 39 this is a mid afternoon game so
you're talking about mid 60s temperatures and sunshine we could see a very high scoring
game here yeah and maybe if you think that that's the case, then the more than play is, is the
right side. Um, you know, the thing that's interesting is, is like Colorado beat the crap out of Arizona. And I watched
that game and should work and took whatever he wanted. And I think he threw for 250 in that game. Like getting to 400 is
to 400 is not easy even when you're playing well and efficient football. So that to me
is the thing I'm thinking of. And then also too, like my anticipation is that that's going to be a loud stadium. Texas Tech is going to be giving it as much as...
Tortillas flying everywhere.
Somebody said don't eat the tortillas. I've never been to Lubbock.
Somebody said don't eat the tortillas. I've never been to Lubbock, so.
Well, I mean, if they if they've landed on on field turf.
It can't be good, like people's feet have been all over that field.
Turf seems less gross to me than concrete.
I it's both those little rubber pellets.
I what if they get rubber pellets on the tortilla?
Like that's not going to taste terrible.
You wipe the pellets off.
I mean, I guess the sweat and body fluids
that absorb into the.
We have our answer.
CY underscore TtU says,
don't eat your tortillas
because students sneak them in in their pants.
So you don't know where that tortillas been.
I didn't think of that aspect of it.
Thank you for helping me.
We can move on to the next thing.
That's disgusting.
All right.
So download that price picks app, use the code staples, play $5, get $50 instantly.
That's your number is very, very interesting.
Let us stay on this game.
I'm going to we're going to start my saucy takes.
So I'm going to give you three saucy takes.
We're going to decide which the sauciest I think you're still going to win
because I thought your initial take was saucy at all. I think it're still going to win. Because I thought your initial take was very
saucy at all. I think it's just.
True, I just think the pad,
the passion behind it. Yeah,
they can't fake that you can't.
You can't fake that alright,
so here's my here's my saucy take.
Of the teams not ranked.
In the initial college football
playoffs selection committee top 25,
Texas Tech is the only one with a real chance to make the college football playoff.
And what I'm saying is I think either Boise State or Army is going to make it from the group of five.
That whether it's Tulane, Louisiana, the other group of five schools that are having good seasons,
I think it's going to be one of those two and they're already in the top 25. Texas Tech has a real chance.
Am I missing one? No, no, no, you're not missing one. So it's funny you bring that
up because every week for the rest of the year I'm going to be updating my
master list of teams that are technically still alive and I did not
include Texas Tech this week,
and I struggle with that.
So I'd love to hear your.
Well, throw the big 12 standings up, producer.
Texas Tech is four and two in the big 12.
Like the loss to Washington State sucks,
but like Texas Tech is not going to get in at large.
The only way Texas Tech makes the playoff
is if they make the big 12 championship game and they win it. But if they are in the Big 12 championship game, then they
absolutely have a chance to win it. It's a, you know, at that point, what if the other team has
some bad shrimp the night before? Like there's plenty of ways it can happen, but you got to get
there. They can't get there if they don't beat Colorado. They got to beat Colorado. Then they
have Oklahoma State, West Virginia.
Those are two winnable games.
They would need some help still.
Like Iowa State still got to lose.
But if Iowa State loses one more, Texas Tech has the tiebreaker over Iowa State.
It would actually be pretty simple.
Because remember, if they beat Colorado, that makes Colorado a four and two big 12 team.
They have the tiebreaker for them.
Kansas State would be the tricky one.
So like the ideal situation for Texas Tech,
here's how you thread that needle
without having to worry about tiebreakers.
Now you've also got Arizona State in there.
So that's the problem, Andy.
So that's the other problem.
But they beat Arizona State.
So here's how you thread the needle.
Iowa state loses to Kansas this weekend.
Texas tech beats Colorado.
Iowa state wins farm again against Kansas state in the regular season finale.
That's, that's the needle.
That's how you thread that needle.
And Texas tech winds up playing BYU in the Big 12 Championship
and has a has a puncher's chance to make the playoff, but they certainly wouldn't be favored
against BYU.
Where would the team in the Big 10 Championship game have the bad shrimp you think?
It's in Dallas.
Can you think of a big 12 championship game?
Yeah, I'm not going to.
You said the Big 10 Championship game.
Big 12.
Yeah, I'm not going to denigrate a fine Dallas restaurant. Did I say the big 10? You said the big 10 championship game. Oh, big 12, yeah.
I'm not gonna denigrate a fine Dallas restaurant. Like, hopefully they're going to like Terry Black's
where we went the other day
or Pecan Lodge or somewhere like that.
They're just, they're having that catered in.
So here's where I had a,
here's where I had a hard time with this, Andy,
is that the technically alive list
isn't everybody who's still mathematically alive in their playoff or in their right.
It's you think this one. I think this can happen. Now I just said I think should do
is going to throw for a billion yards in this game. And I actually picked Colorado win this
game. But it is a low spread. The favorites on the road.
It's a traditionally tough place to play.
One team is kind of bipolar.
That's Texas Tech and they're but they're coming off a huge
win.
So.
I think it's it's possible the scenario I just outline is
possible.
I remember I picked Kansas State to cover against Iowa State this week
and that's a that's a very low spread. That's three and a half point spread. So it's possible.
That's all I'm saying. I just didn't want yeah so like do you think I made a mistake by not putting
them in? Yes yeah I think now if they lose this weekend obviously no it's over for them but this
is their last chance.
But I want the list to be accurate.
Now, the hardest part is like if you include Texas Tech, then how many other teams get included that have, you know,
that are two or three results away from getting into their conference championship game.
Like there are other teams that kind of fall into, like even Arizona State.
Colorado's path is cleaner for sure.
Colorado was alive, But like when you
go to the standings, like is, I don't mean, I'd have to look this up, but is Arizona state
technically mathematically alive in the big 12 race still? Cause they only have two losses
in the big 12. They are Arizona state be on there. They play Kansas state and BYU. So
why are they not on there? Like it's like, should be. So it's like you have to draw the line somewhere.
And I drew the line at three losses.
The good news is that Arizona state can clear this up
one way or the other.
They can knock Kansas state out of contention
and they can, where they can get themselves
knocked out of contention.
They all, like you said, they also play BYU.
And that's the other thing about the big 12.
I just issued a full on proclamation.
What if BYU loses too?
This league is going to be wild for the rest of this month.
I think Arizona State may control its own destiny in this.
May not, maybe not. They play you to death.
I think BYU would have to lose to someone else, but then if they did, Arizona State would have a tie break over them.
Arizona State does not control its own destiny.
Because Colorado and BYU are both ahead.
And you would need another one, and they don't play Colorado.
You need Colorado to lose to somebody.
But you could beat BYU, and if BYU lost to somebody else, you would then have the tiebreaker
over them. Yeah, so I just like had to draw the line somewhere
and it's like I don't even know like what about Cincinnati? Are
they technically like there's four teams that are five teams
in this conference? So if you put Texas Tech in, you've got to
put the entire Big 12 in the freaking thing. Well, I'm saying
this is the only one I think could actually happen. Yeah, that's what's crazy. I don't think it's crazy.
It's not crazy. It's not likely, but it's not crazy either. So yeah, there you go.
All right, Ari. Before we get to my next, but that's a fact that wasn't spicy.
That's a fact. Like who, what other teams outside of the top? I think it's awesome
that I'm saying that's the only one that I find plausible
Before we move on we got a we're gonna talk about our friends at at Panini
The makers are the best most collectible sports cards on the planet
We got the luminance football card series featuring in IL autograph cards from players including Archman and Quinn Ures cam ward Jalen
Milro Dylan, Riola DJ Lag, and Luther Burden to start collecting visit
PaniniAmerica.net. We pulled in a Ronde Gadsden the second and I just I so I gave my son that
card and he's very very excited about it. But we were looking at his signature and it
says OG two like that's how he signed his name just OG two which is a badass way to
sign your name. We got another pack I I'm going to rip a pack right now.
So we've got the gold standard.
That's going to be a fire pack because in gold standard,
I think there are three autos and a bunch of patch cards
and numbered cards in that one pack.
So yeah, there's there's like uniform pieces.
So you get one pack in the box.
So this is a big one.
So, you know, it's about when we rip packs as you're opening
this up.
My buddy, Kevin, just sent me this. This is DJ Lagway card that he just pulled out of national treasures
with a patch and it's an NIL card. Uh, I don't know if you can see it, but I can be totally
into that. Uh, anybody who wouldn't want DJ Lagway card with the way he's been playing. Holy cow, Ari. And Ducks fans.
Justin Herbert autograph. Oh wow.
Uniform swatch.
Wow.
Right out of the chute.
You got a Justin Herbert auto?
Yup.
Is that bad boy number?
With the uniform swatch.
That is numbered.
It is 22 out of 45,
out of 49. 22 out of 49, uh, at 49, 22 out of 49.
Justin Herbert, that thing. Andy, people want that. I got top loaders.
Don't worry. People, Jermaine Burton, autograph swatch.
So okay. Played at Georgia and Alabama.
Blake Coram, mother load numbered many, many pieces.
Do you get the gold pun there with the mother load?
It's spelled LOD.
I got it.
Oh yeah.
It's actually Ari.
That is the term mother load.
It refers to gold.
I spell it differently.
Yeah, you spell it incorrectly.
No, I spell it differently. Yeah, you spell it incorrectly. No, I spell I spell it differently. Wrong. Yes,
exactly. newly minted Malachi Corley swatch gold rush to a
tongue of I loa and a redemption card for a 2024 mystery rookie card.
So somebody in the rookie.
Can I have that?
No, you cannot.
It's mine.
You want to know why?
I got the one with the shadow of Shaq dunking, and I knew I could trade it for a Shaq rookie
card.
Like that's what this is.
I know that much, I'm ready.
Let me explain to you why that's a really valuable thing
to have because the class that you have here
is the Caleb Williams class.
And I don't know if he's using that product yet,
but he might be later on.
So they have the redemptions that you can put in
and you don't know who the mystery rookie is gonna be.
You scratch off and you redeem it at Panini.
Yeah, can I have that?
Paniniamerica.net. Please? No Yeah, can I have that net?
Please, you can't have that. What are you going to do with it?
Give it to me.
What if I want to collect it?
You should want to sell it on eBay.
You should don't.
I'm a buyer.
OK, alright.
You know.
You know who else is a buyer?
I don't know how much they're paying for this.
This is my second saucy take, by the way.
So the news came out on Tuesday that Dana Holgersen, former West Virginia and Houston
coach joining the staff at Nebraska as an offensive consultant.
My saucy take is Dana Holgersen will have a full-time role with Nebraska next season, possibly running the offense.
So here's the deal. Dana Holgersson and Matt Ruhl have the same agent.
So this is a case of guys who already knew each other, guys who've known each other for a while getting together.
And Nebraska's offense needs help. And they need help now.
They have an open date and they've got to figure out how to win one more game out
of the last three to get bowl eligible.
And it's not an easy set of games for them to win.
Their next game is at USC.
USC has just changed quarterbacks.
So we really don't know how USC will look with Jaden Maiava but I think we can assume they're going to be able to score some points.
Then Nebraska plays Wisconsin, then they're at Iowa. Nebraska has got to wake up that offense. I think, I don't think this is a case of Dana
Hogerson coming in to just help out Marcus Satterfield. I think this is Dana Hoverson coming in to fix the offense
as much as he can before that plays again.
Yeah, the whole analyst role thing is so interesting to me
because sometimes the analysts are just like,
reputation rebuilders and then sometimes it's like
coaching waiting, right?
Like it's just like, it's not always made.
Dana's been this, like when he was the,
remember he's the offensive coordinator at West Virginia.
And they're like, we're going to make you the head coach
after this season.
And then Bill Stewart understand him.
He was like, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on here?
Yeah, because you sometimes you see pretty high profile coaches
taking analyst jobs.
And you're like, why are you doing that?
There's always a reason.
So I like this idea. Yeah. Yeah. And I, I think if you're Dana, you, you're back to like, if you fixed the Nebraska
offense and then you come back next year and lead a really good, and I don't know if he's going to do this or not, but I
think it's distinctly possible. You came back next year as Nebraska's OC.
And Nebraska was great on offense. You are getting another head coaching job. Boom, right, right there. Like it's, it's not a
problem. You will, you will cruise right into another head
coaching job.
Yep.
So I'm excited to watch that. Like this adds a very new wrinkle
along with USC's quarterback change to that Nebraska USC game next week.
Like that's going to be a really wild... because remember, both those teams need to get bowl eligible.
And there's no guarantee that either one's going to.
I gotta tell you, Nebraska going into the quarterback switch is just the most Nebraska thing I've ever heard in my life.
We'll see how it turns out, but I've got a feeling that USC is going to make it rain out there.
I don't know. See, I keep thinking about that.
I listen. We've seen Linker Riley change quarterbacks before.
Like he pulled Spencer Rattler and put Caleb Williams in in the middle of the Texas game a few years ago.
He stayed with Miller Moss for a long time, even though things weren't working out.
I'm guessing it's because what he saw at practice did not suggest to him that.
It was going to get any better.
Yeah, we say a lot about Lincoln Riley and there's there's criticism to
hit Lincoln Riley with right now, but you, you absolutely cannot question.
His ability to evaluate quarterbacks.
He's really good at that.
I'm excited to see.
This is like the thing that could make USC worth watching.
I'm excited.
Yeah, this is going to be fun.
Although I'm living through some trauma myself watching that.
But hey.
All right, one more saucy take and it is based on.
The rankings that were revealed last night and my interpretation of the rankings.
If Boise State wins out and winds up the 12 and one Mountain West Conference champ.
The Broncos will be the number four seed.
champ. The Broncos will be the number four seed.
I mean, I guess this kind of goes toe to toe or hand in hand. Sorry, wrong expression with your other take, right? Like,
if you think that Texas, if Texas tech is the big 12
champion, it turns out that way that would mean chaos ensued,
which means that a team that probably isn't viewed as a
national contender at the moment won the conference, then you might feel pretty
good about where Boise lands on that.
Right.
Like do they go, do they go together?
One loss Boise state Mount West champ versus two or three loss big 12
champ who you, who you got, who's ranked higher.
Cause it doesn't like, it doesn't matter how much higher, as long as it's one
spot, that's it's just between number four and then wherever you're
ranked or number 12. Yeah, I don't hate this at all. No, I think that Boise State gets a lot of
benefit of the doubt, hopefully for the way they play to Oregon. Like I don't know if you think
that Oregon got off to a slow start this year or whatever the case may be. But Boise was in a very good position to just win that football
game outright. You know, and what we know about Oregon is that they look like the best, most complete team in the
sport this year. So, you know, whenever we talk about G5 teams in the past, it's always been like, well, they play a
crappy schedule or the competition sucks. And it's like, they've played the literal number one team this year down to the
wire on the road early in the season.
And I think that that will, if we're going to do the quality loss thing like that we were doing with Penn State today, then
who has the best quality loss in the country?
Yeah, I think that's true.
I think that's, and I hate quality.
I hate the quality loss thing, by the way, but clearly they're doing it with Penn State.
Did Boise State play Oregon you may as well play.
Did Boise State play Oregon every bit as tough as Ohio State did?
Yeah.
So in the same stadium. Yeah. Yeah.
So now I think that's definitely possible. All right. All right.
We are going this week into Oxford, Mississippi.
We're going to the Georgia Ole Miss game.
It's your first Oxford experience
so I we've got our friends at wonder fan we're talking about wonder fan in a second, but I
Want to ask you?
Because wonder fan is is the app that allows you to earn while you're at the stadium while you're at the tailgate
And what you do basically is you you press start once you get there and you start earning
And what you do basically is you press start once you get there and you start earning.
Wonder, which are the currency that you can use within the app. And the more wonder you get, the more you qualify for where you can qualify for gift cards, the fanatics,
Dix, Lululemon, Home Depot, more places. So if you sign up, you get 50 free wonder just for
signing up. If you then use the code staples, then you get 40 more wonder,
which again helps you get those those gift cards and everything. So if you're going to the stadium
this weekend, whether you're going to Oxford, whether you're going to Baton Rouge, whether
you're going to Lubbock with your tortilla down your pants, bring your phone, have the wonder app
on your phone, sign up for wonder, use the code staples,
you'll already have 90 free wonder
and then you keep on rolling.
So Ari, I wanna ask you,
since we're going to one of the great tailgate atmospheres
in college football,
what is your ideal tailgate scenario?
tailgate scenario.
So the thing that I can't stand. About my job, which is the only
thing, cause I love my job and it's
like the greatest privilege in the
entire world to be able to do it,
is that covering college football.
Stops us or prevents us from enjoying.
We can't get ways.
Same tailgate.
Let's be honest here.
Yeah, I did have a buzz ball or something with.
What did I drink? Oh, no, no.
I had a few high noon's with Big Cat before the Wisconsin game.
And I think I had two or three.
And as I was walking into the game, like I was like on the cusp,
on the precipice of being buzzed.
And it was like the best walk into the stadium.
But we can't get bombed or we're getting fired. Yeah. We're going to throw out a press box and fired. on the precipice of being buzzed. And it was like the best walk into the stadium. I don't have my Chris.
But we can't get bombed or we're getting fired.
Yeah, we've got to throw out a press box and fired.
I've got to be alert and ready.
So I do regret that.
The only tailgating I've ever done
was when I was a beat writer,
I went to Arizona homecoming
a year that coincided with Ohio State's
bi-week and I didn't have to cover anything that day and I had a blast.
So what I did do, Andy, and I don't know if you know this, uh, oh yeah, no, I got,
I, I do a few upper deckies.
Um, hey, the thing you don't know about me, but I think you should, is that when I was in my 20s and I was single, I went to the
Kentucky Derby every year because it was only a few hours south of Columbus. And I had to have my buddies fly in from
college. And we would rent those Cruising America, the Cruising America RV v RV. Yeah. Yeah.
And we would go to the store on the way down to Louisville, like in the middle of something
in Cincinnati or something.
And we would buy a kid's inflatable pool.
Okay.
And in this inflatable pool, we would buy 500 beers back when you could get Bud Light
Lime at every grocery store, when it was a proper country. You still can. And we drove to the tailgate lot
in the Louisville football stadium parking lot.
If you didn't know this, again, singles, 20s,
single and 20 Ari,
they drop school buses of sorority girls
in the parking lot of that.
So like, come dive into our kiddie pool of Bud Light Lime ladies? So we would park, we'd pay like 200 bucks, we would park this van in the area, inflate
this pool with a bunch of ice, dump all the beers in there, and I've got pictures on my
phone I'll send them to you, maybe one day we can use it as a graphic.
And these girls would come off the bus and flock to the pool as if it was like a discovery channel, like, you know, full of free beer. Yeah, it was like, it was like a mating call almost like I don't know how to describe it. It was like, and then you would just drink in the tailgate lot all day until you can't feel your face and then walk into the race, have a good time.
And then, and then crash in the bus when you got back like that to me sounds pretty good.
Uh, those were the glory day stories.
Yeah.
Like I'm washed now.
I don't know if I could pull that off anymore, but, um, it would be great to just get absolutely blacked out and go to a game and just cheer your ass off.
Not have to worry about how many yards someone rushes for
or what this means. Like that's the thing when Andy and I watch football,
all we're doing is what does this mean? Like, what does this mean? Like, there's
no, there's no like, oh my god, that shit was awesome. Oh, let's go drink.
Like, that's not what I do.
Like when my son and I were watching the Commander's Bears game a few weeks ago together
Like I didn't have to worry about what the Hail Mary meant. I could just go
Like I wish every now and then I could just be like, oh my god
And then just like go to bed, but that's not how I think the beauty of our job is we do get to do that
And then we get to go talk about it
Like we do get to talk cuz I I still feel that way when I'm watching
college football games.
There's a lot of games where they'll end and you're just like,
whoa, and then I gotta talk to Ari about this.
So that's the best part, but yes, I agree with the tailgate.
So I'm excited for you to see the Grove
and the tailgate set up at Ole Miss.
The fact that everybody gets dressed up
and it'll especially be impressive this week
because it's supposed to rain.
So it's supposed to be a kind of a great rainy day.
They're still gonna get dressed to the nines.
Everybody's still gonna look good.
How does what Ole Miss fans dress like
impact your attire for the game?
Cause I'm gonna pack nicer clothes for you.
Well, it's not okay.
Remember we had to, we had to separate for the game because I'm gonna pack it's not gonna you well it's not okay remember we had to we had to separate for this game because it's
pretty tight oh yeah that's right so I'm gonna shoot a little video down on the
field and so I'm bringing a raincoat so I gotta I can't I'm not wearing a
seersucker suit let's put it that way you can't just come up to the box and
sit there would anyone even notice I don know. I kind of stick out Ari.
Yeah, you do.
I don't really blend in.
Especially if you're wearing that like,
especially if you're like wearing that like
traffic cop vest that they make you wear down there.
So yeah, I'm gonna wear like a vest I think,
and not like a velvet vest like McLovin,
I'm gonna be wearing like, you wear like a vest, I think. And not like a velvet vest like McLovin, but I'm gonna be wearing like a, you know,
like a, yeah, it's velvet.
How old are you old enough to party?
That's what you need to tell the folks at Ole Miss.
Like as they wait in line for the hottie-tottie-potties.
This is the, one of the more unique tailgating scenes.
And I can't wait to experience it.
I've been to Ole Miss with you.
We went and interviewed Lane Kiffin in his office.
It was during a week.
Yeah, it was like a week.
And it might've been, was it in the middle of the season?
I don't even remember if it was during the season.
It was, it was.
They were playing Vandy that week and actually,
they actually struggled a little bit against Vandy
at the beginning of that game.
And then wound up kind of putting and putting
Putting their foot on the gas at the end. Yeah
Can't wait to see it I know it's a spectacle and I can't wait to see the state
I've never been to Ole Miss for a game and I can't imagine there's a better situation to break that seal than to see this one
So yeah, this is gonna be because it's not normally a stadium that gets pretty crazy
But I've like I was there when they beat Alabama in 2014. It was rocking that day. It will be rocking if they are in contention against Georgia in the third
and fourth quarter. Like it's going to be it's going to be great. I mean, I hope it's
rocking right out of the gate too. Oh, it's going to be awesome. So cannot wait. We're going to have some fun.
Guys, get your Dear Andy and Ari questions in now.
Going to have to be quick with this.
So you know where to find us.
Andy underscore Staples on Twitter and Instagram.
Ari Wasserman on Twitter and Instagram.
Andy Staples on three at gmail.com.
If you'd like to submit an epically long question. But we have to record Dear Ari and Dear Andy tonight, because
Ari has jury duty tomorrow morning.
Can I ask you?
His part. Yeah, go ahead.
So I've got to pick up my daughter at 5 tomorrow. Like, do I kind of tell these people, like, Hey, I got to be out of
here by 4? Like, how does this work?
You can tell them that. It may not help you.
What? What do you mean? it may not help you. What?
What do you mean? I'm good.
I'm not leaving.
You're the old.
No, if your wife's out of town, that may get you out of jury service.
She is not out of town, but she is out in Fort Worth at a, at a work convention.
So like, you're going to have to, I mean, you explain that to them and they're
not, they're not monsters like, okay.
The last thing I'll ask too is what happens if you're late?
Don't be late.
Okay, because I didn't know if I could drop my daughter off at school first and then go.
Hmm, see if the wife can drop her off like don't be late. Okay, just follow all the instructions.
the instructions. Tell them what you do for a living, that you're very strongly opinionated and you give lots of opinions in public. I think that'll probably convince both attorneys
to use peremptory challenges on you.
What actually happens if you just don't show up? Like what's the consequence for that?
They come get you. Or they fine you.
They come fine you? they find you.
I can find you. They come find me.
I said they find you.
Like they will charge you money.
But also there may be some other sort of punitive
way to handle it.
As Rocky Top Tom says,
the easiest way is to say openly,
if you're being charged, you're obviously guilty.
Yeah.
The defense attorney is knocking you out of the, out of the box
at that point. So, yeah, I have so much trust in the American justice system
that if somebody was charged with something, there's no way they didn't do
it. Now, here's what's probably going to happen. I'll, I'll explain what
happened the last time I had jury duty. I went to the courthouse. Fortunately,
I brought snacks, sat there all morning. The afternoon, they start bringing people into the courtroom.
They see them, they start asking questions, they take a brief recess, and they're like,
ah, defendant pled out, we're done.
Y'all can go home.
This is like 1.30 in the afternoon.
So I can't be 20 minutes late.
Don't be late.
Okay. All right. I'm sorry. I care about my kid. You know, like, I don't be 20 minutes late. Don't be late. Okay, all right.
I'm sorry, I care about my kid.
You know, like, I don't know, like what.
I understand, but I'll be late.
All right.
So good luck to Ari.
So we're gonna record Dear Andy, Dear Ari.
You're gonna get a Dear Andy, Dear Ari show.
You don't have to worry about me just droning on solo,
though I will pop on if there's news and we need to talk about
it in the morning.
But think of Ari as he does his civic duty.
I really don't want to do it.
I really don't want to do it.
We know nobody wants to do jury duty Ari.
But you know what?
We all suck it up and do it anyway.
Welcome to being a citizen of the United States.
Ensuring a fair trial for the accused.
I don't think I would not want you on my jury.
Not a chance.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
