Welcome to Andy and Ari on 3 presented by Fett NAM.
It is a pick show and we got a lot of good games to pick.
The top of the Big 12 up for grabs is Texas Tech host BYU.
That's your game day game.
You got Texas A&M putting its undefeated record on the line at Missouri.
You've got Oregon going to Iowa.
Friday night action.
Two late at Memphis.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
We got zombie teams.
We got zombie Auburn at Vandy.
We got zombie LSU at Alabama.
Ari, it's going to be a fun week.
Yeah, no, I can't wait.
We're now in November.
We got the playoff show on Tuesday night.
You know, all the games matter,
but the games start mattering a little bit more now.
And you're seeing that with the graphic right here in front of our faces.
So, yeah, super excited to talk about these games, get into them,
and try to have a good winning week for once.
And let's tell the people, Tuesday night,
when the poll results, the college football playoff selection committee,
when they release their rankings, we will be live.
And so you can turn your TV down and just watch us because,
or you don't have to turn your TV on at all.
We'll tell you what they are.
And we will discuss it as it's happening, see if there's any surprises.
I'm not sure.
We did kind of try to predict it a little bit at the end of Saturday Night's show,
but I'll be curious to see what it all looks like.
But we've got the playoff ranking release, the first one, sometime between, well, we think it's going to be about 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Is this one with basketball?
Do we have to wait for Tomizzo to take all his timeouts?
I can't remember.
I don't know if it's bad.
Basketball season's back.
So it never really seems, the first one never is on time.
But, you know, we'll be on our computers waiting for it to be ready and then we'll go live right as the show starts.
So exactly.
So we'll tell you as the world finds out.
So if you just want to find out with us, join us on the YouTube stream.
So subscribe to the On Three Sports YouTube channel.
Time of year where the AP poll starts to mirror the college football playoff poll.
I'm very amused by this.
People think that the AP poll has an impact.
Maybe it does to some degree in narrative.
But once this starts coming out, if the college football playoff committee thinks that the 4, 5, 6, 7 teams,
which is what's probably going to be the number one talking point,
or should be in a different order,
you'll see that to start reflect the...
If they flip Indiana in Ohio State.
Yeah, I think that they might do that
because you...
Indiana has a better win at the moment.
And I think that that's okay.
Yeah.
Let us get to the picks.
We've got a lot of games to pick.
We'll start on Friday night.
This is a battle for that.
Well, actually, before we get to the picks,
before we get to the picks,
We've got to talk about records.
So I was 5-3-1 last week of the push in Vanity, Texas, because it was a three-point game.
Ari was 3-6.
My overall record is now 51, 40, and 2 for the year.
Ari's is 35-57-1.
We introduced Bed-MGM Mulligans last week.
So when the bed-M-GM line shifts on Thursday, we're allowed to pick one game to take a mulligan on.
I took two extra points in SMU, Miami.
didn't have bothered to do that because I won it anyway.
They won straight up.
Ari took Texas.
He flipped to Texas and they ended up winning the game.
Yeah, I was lucky that the spread was two and a half when we recorded the show because
it ended up being around three, three and a half and that would have pushed or lost.
And Andy and I were sitting right next to each other when Gunner stocked and laid down
at the one yard line to not cover.
I was like, you know, smart, smart kid.
That's a guy who knows situation.
situational football. I actually had somebody on Twitter go, was that really the smart play? Yes. If all you need to do to win the game is take a knee, that's a smart play. That had allowed Florida to cover the spread, even better. Yeah, smart play, right move. Result would have been the same either way. But that's always really, really difficult to see that happen when you're, when you have money on it, you know, because people have, I feel like there's been an increase of smart play at the end of games the last few years and,
terms of like I feel like you saw he saw in Oklahoma Tennessee where the Oklahoma player actually
looked at the sideline what do I do what do I do now they ended up scoring again but he
he actually was asking the right question yeah either ran 30 seconds off or took a time out after he
did it like it did they even though they scored they still made the game harder to win so you know but
that's part of it and you know you still I'm not quite over the safety that Indiana took from the
yard line a few weeks ago.
That was rough.
I think Jackson Arnold taking that safety in the Oklahoma game in the Auburn
Oklahoma game.
That one of my picks.
Every single time something like that has happened this year.
So it's just, you know, sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield.
I am the bug this year for sure.
And I think that people listening to the show should start seriously questioning whether
like winning is just fading me because like I usually.
One of my favorite Mary Chapin Carpenter songs, Ari, sometimes you're the windshield,
sometimes you're the bug.
I'm the bug.
It's okay. Carpenter is, right? You've never heard passionate Kishis, have you?
I don't even know what you're talking about. This is Chinese to me. But what I do know is
is that it's every bit as hard to go 35 and 57 and 1 as it is to go 51, 40, and one.
It sure is, Ari. It's the same percentage. Yeah. If I could be wrong 100% of the time,
that'd be a winning gambling formula. So, you know, and I do think that it's a do a parlay and you
miss all of them that you should get a payout for that. Well, that's like the week I went,
for a couple years ago, like, that, that's much harder than going.
In 2017, I bet like 13 or 14 NCAA tournament games.
And this was, I wasn't talking about it on the show, just did it in my living room.
And I went 0 and 13 that day.
And I still think about it because the statistical improbability of that occurring is every bit as remarkable as being 13 and 0.
Yeah.
Because like, you know, at a certain point, like the math bears out and you can start throwing dark.
and do better, you know.
Yeah.
So I don't know.
I've got no excuses.
It's just not been a good year for me.
Well, this is the, this is when you turn around.
We'll talk about Dabo Sweeney later in the show and him talking about, you know,
this has been a brutal year, but they have faith and they're going to turn it around.
This is you having faith that you're going to turn it around.
Yeah.
We will start in Memphis on Friday night.
If I keep losing, Andy, it's a better tool for the listener because then they know
to fade it and they can make money.
It's still a tool.
So, all right, let's go.
You are still a tool.
Literally.
Let's go to Memphis Friday night, Tulane and Memphis.
Tulane just got creamed by UTSA on Thursday night last week.
That was a little weird.
Interestingly enough, it reminded me of when they got creamed by Memphis in New Orleans last year.
Also at a time when John Somerall's name was at a fever pitch for other jobs.
Just saying it seems like that happens.
Yeah, well, here's the deal.
You got two coaches now who have their names popping up for other jobs.
So someone's going to lose and someone's going to win.
So how down are you on Tulane after what happened this past weekend?
Not super down because this happened to them last year.
Now, the problem is it happened to them last year and then they follow that up by losing the Army in the American Championship game.
But also, Memphis has got a pretty good winning streak going at home.
It's a tough place to play.
The Liberty Bowl is rocking.
Remember, I said when we named FIU's Stadium Pit Bull Stadium,
when he bought the naming rights,
I was pretty sure you should name this Project Pat Field at the Liberty Bowl.
So that's what we're going to call it.
Memphis is really tough to beat on Project Pat Field at the Liberty Bowl.
Yeah.
it's a tough it's a tough spread too um because right now you have to feel pretty good about the way that
memphis is playing and i don't know if we gave them enough credit too a few weeks ago for how
they beat south florida like beating south florida is a pretty tough thing to do in it of
itself but outscoring the bull 17 nothing in the fourth quarter to pull off that win i think is the
type of that's the type of game that might carry you through a season in which you're hoping to make
the CFP.
Two teams that are headed in very different directions at the moment because UTSA just
beat Tulane pretty good the other day.
But this is also a game where, you know, another pivotal game for two teams that have
won, lost in the American.
Like, it doesn't matter that Tulane has already lost a game out of conference.
This is a huge game for CFP.
And Memphis has that weird UAB loss that's just sitting there.
So Memphis is a six and a half point phase.
in this game. I was a little surprised about it. I felt like that was a little high. I thought
this might be three and a half, four and a half, something like that. But maybe the thought is that
Tulane is, there's something wrong with it. Jake Retzel have had a bad game against UTSA.
14 to 28 for 194 yards, one touchdown, two picks. It was not a good game for him. But he's not
had bad games for the most part like when they beat east carolina which is a good team in the
american this year you if you look at this american standings that we've got on the screen there
east carolina is three and one just like usf and two lane when they when they beat east
carolina he had a really good game against them 347 yards on 26 and 36 two touchdowns no
interceptions so it's not like jake retslev has had a terrible year he's coming off a bad game he
had a bad game against old miss as well now it may be that that he's just
not as good against the best defenses they play, but I don't know. I mean, he was an efficient,
he was efficient against Duke when they played them. So I think he has a potentially good game
in him. I just, I don't know. The, the way they lost UTSA is messing with my head. Yeah. And,
you know, as we know in college football, it's not always the same truths. Two weeks in a row,
you can play a really bad game and then come out and play really well. I'm assuming the two
Lane's going to be fired up to go to Memphis and, you know, all the goals still seem to be ahead
of both of these teams. Like, I don't know how much you would, you should take into account what
happened last week. That said, I'm, Brendan Lewis went out of the rice game too for, for Memphis,
their quarterback. He went out at the end of the rice game with it with an injury. But I think,
I think he's supposed to be back for this one. He got banged up to Andy. He was, I believe,
18 for 22 passing for 22 yards. So a highly efficient game for him. And, you know, Memphis didn't
really need to sweat they were up 31 to 7 at halftime on rice last week so again do you do you want to
you know throw the the trends out throw the directions out and just go for you know a gut feeling
here in a game that's probably going to be fairly close considering what's at stake or are you
going to go with the trends well i think you gave me really good advice last week when you flipped
your pick from vandy to texas you said pick the spot not the game so i'm thinking i'm trying
to think that way this week i don't think you should be taking my advice
I should never.
Right.
I'm thinking about that.
But the thing is, this is at Memphis.
This is a huge game.
Everybody, it's a Friday night game.
Everybody's going to be watching.
I'm going to take Memphis to cover here.
I feel like Memphis is the better team.
They, I think Memphis is on pace to win this league.
And the fact that they get them at home matters.
So I'm going to take Memphis to cover here.
I am also going to take Memphis.
I think that, you know, if this were seven and a half,
I might go the other direction.
I think it's probably going to be a one-possession game.
I think it's going to be a highly entertaining game.
But I'm going to take the hot team at home that seems, like you said,
Destin to win this conference.
Yeah, this is going to be a fun one for a Friday.
Another bonus fun one Friday night is Northwestern USC,
Northwestern at USC coming off a very tough win against Nebraska that I didn't think
was going to be as tough as it was.
It was a very tough game.
Unfortunately, Nebraska loses Dylan Riola for the season.
We'll talk about that a little bit more.
the week goes on about what Nebraska does
from here on out. But that's another
bonus. Like Friday night's going to be a
fun appetizer for the weekend.
So just get ready for that.
Make your going out plans
accordingly. Maybe you have a night
in. Maybe you tell
the significant other, hey,
you go out
with your friends tonight.
Yeah. I got a date with
a couple of medellos and the couch.
USC
and Oregon back-to-back.
for Iowa is going to be kind of funny, too.
I'm just bringing that up because you just brought up the Northwestern
USC game, and it's like, well, then they play Iowa, the following week.
It would be good and warm.
A lot of Big Ten West football being played.
So Memphis for both of us.
Let's go to the next one.
Yes.
All right.
Before we do that, if you want to go to some of the biggest games of the week, go to game time.
One of the biggest games of the week we were about to talk about, and that is BYU, Texas
Tech in Lubbock.
It is a hot ticket at Jones AT&T Stadium.
You're talking about $391 and up to get in.
You want good seats.
We're talking in the fours, in the fives.
This is big time.
This is a big, big game in Lubbock.
Maybe the biggest game in Lubbock since that Halloween night game against Texas 17 years ago.
But it's going to be an 11 a.m. local kick because it is going to be on your TVs very early.
And this is going to be a lot of fun.
So download the GameTime app if you want tickets or if you want, I don't know, maybe Texas A&M, Missouri.
You want to go to Columbia, Missouri, eat some Shakespeare's pizza.
Watch Texas A&M try to stay undefeated.
Watch Missouri try to stay alive in the playoff race.
Go to the GameTime app.
Use code Staples for $20 off your first purchase, terms apply, of course.
The price you see, that is the price you pay.
There's no junk added at the end at checkout.
That's the price you pay.
no BS from game time.
Swipe, tap, ticket, go.
Use the code staples for $20 off your first purchase.
Ari, let us go to Lubbock.
BYU, Texas Tech.
This game's on ABC,
11 a.m. local kick.
The winner of this game is in control in the Big 12.
Now, both these teams have beaten Utah,
which is part of the in-control part.
The other part is if BYU wins,
they play Cincinnati in Cincinnati in a couple weeks.
So they can have firm control.
If they went out, they are in, no question.
Texas Tech, their only losses to Arizona State,
which is probably not going to factor in with Sam Levitt out.
And as long as they don't lose again,
they're fine because Arizona State already has two conference losses.
So the winner of this-
Los Saturday.
Yes.
The winner of this is in firm control for a spot in the Big 12 championship.
game. So are you going to go with the coach who keeps finding ways to win every week?
Are you going to go with the team that played a big game at 11 a.m. about six weeks ago and
just blew the doors off of that, uh, half of that opponent? We're not picking this game straight up,
because I think that is a legitimate and a great question if you're picking the game straight up.
Well, I think it still applies because the spread is so big. It's a 10.5 point.
It's a 10.5 point favorite. So if you think that BYU has a chance to win this game straight,
up, then obviously you're going to take the points.
And I am kind of interested in this for a different reason.
It's like how much does Will Hammond playing quarterback against Arizona State factor in on
the road to Texas Tech's only loss?
Because if you go look at their schedule, 677, 6214, 4514, 3410, 3511, 4217, inexplicable
loss on the road without their starting quarterback at Arizona State, 42-0, 43 to 20 with Morton
back.
Like, is Texas Tech a team that's susceptible to losing to other really solid, good, consistent winners in the Big 12?
Or did they just have a terrible game without their quarterback and are much head and shoulders better?
Like, I think we have to decide that.
And I think I'm just going to, you know, a lot of stuff this week about the talent rankings and teams and, you know, how much can you rely on the talent rankings when trying to parse through.
the sport and who's better and who's not in the SEC Big 10 ACC strength discussion.
And I think I'm going to throw back here and just go with the players, man.
I'm just going to go with the players and I'm going to lay the points.
I think that Texas Tech is the most talented team in the Big 12 by far.
It's at home.
It's one of the most exciting atmospheres that that place has had in quite some time.
And Baron Morton is back and he looked awesome against Kansas State.
Yeah, I think there's something to be said there.
And also, BYU, too, and I don't know how much we go back to last season because this is a new team with a new quarterback.
But BYU got to 9 and 0 last year, and then they lost two in a row.
Like, I don't know how much this is sustainable winning the way that they're winning every week.
And some of the games have been close.
Some of them haven't.
Maybe BYU is for real.
Oh, really?
Some of them haven't.
Okay.
Okay, all right.
Tell me the last time BYU lost by more than seven points.
interesting
let me go look
because I already looked that up
yeah no
I didn't say that they
when I said they were winning all of them
so I never was but I would love to know the answer to that
I don't know can I look at real quick
or do you want to just tell me
I will just tell you because you're going to have to go back
a while it was November 11th
2003 against Iowa State
at home they lost 4513
so it has been a long time
when's the last time
BYU played a team that has this many
good players on it. It's also been a long time. It's not in the past three or four years. I'm trying
to look at their non-conference schedule. They played at Oregon on September 17, 2020 and lost
412. They lost 35 to 6 at Texas on October 28th and 2023, but I don't know how much that wasn't
a very good team. I don't know how you, but you should be looking at the last two teams. Well, the 23 Texas
team made the playoff. No, I'm saying the BYU team wasn't a very good team. Right. It wasn't
a very good big. I don't know how much you can, you can't glean anything from that.
You know, the problem is we haven't seen since, since they got pretty good last year.
They beat SMU 1815 on the road.
SMU is a playoff team, but I would say that this Texas Tech team is more talented than that
SMU team last year.
So we have not seen it.
And it's a great question.
They should be giving, they should be given credit for beating a playoff team on the road
last year, for sure.
Yeah.
But I think that this might be the most talented regular season opponent they've had since they
played Texas in 2023.
Yeah.
And they were a different team, probably, I would say a different program back then.
They hadn't even joined the Big 12 yet at that point.
$391 to get into the stadium this weekend.
Man, they're excited in Lovick.
The tortillas will be flying.
I am excited about this game.
I can't wait to watch.
I imagine the Texas Tech fans probably not pleased with the kickoff time, even though
it is a national showcase on ABC.
I'm sure they're not pleased because they would like to get.
fully lubed up one one thing that was great about the texas texas tech game in 2008 the the michael
crabtree catch game is that it was Halloween night and everybody was hammered like it was
incredible uh that you're not going to have time to do that so you may not get as wild an atmosphere
as that game but i think this is going to be a lot of fun so ari who do you have in this game
texas tech 10 and a half point favorite you're going to take take them to cover the big spread or
Does BYU keep you close?
Yeah, I'm going to lay the points.
I was listening to a documentary on the airplane the other day about the John
Bonae Ramsey case and one of the defense attorneys said that it was hard to figure out
who was responsible or the time of the murder because there were no footprints in the snow.
And at the time of the disappearance, it hadn't snowed outside.
That's what the stat you just brought up kind of reminds me of.
It's like it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter to me how long it's been since they,
lost by eight points or more if they haven't played a team with this many players during that time
period. Like those two, there's no nexus between those two things. It matters to me. They play
this game. This team plays close games. They win close games. I don't know if they're going to win
this game. But that's not the point of this exercise. This is picking against the spread and you're
giving me 10 and a half points. So you're giving me two scores. So I will take BYU to cover. I think
Texas Tech is still going to win this thing. But I'll take BYU to cover.
it's a lot of points. It's a lot of points for sure. And Kalani Sataki is one of the most underrated coaches in the sport. So he just knows how to get his team in position to win games and win them when they're in that position. It'd be crazy if they won. They could, maybe they'll win. I got a feeling we're going to see this game again in Jerry World. I think that's where we're headed. The Texas Tech fans, by the way, all very mad at me because I did the projected playoff and I had them in eight and nine, which they probably, it probably would mean if that actually happened.
happened. That would be the third time they played.
And they're like, the committee wouldn't do that.
The committee would absolutely do that.
Like if they think they're eight and nine or they think they're seven to ten or six
and eleven, they do not care if they've already played this season.
I was sitting next to what I'm going to think about that.
I'm sitting next to somebody on the airplane yesterday who recognized us from the show.
Okay.
And we got to do a conversation, really cool dude, nose ball.
It was really nice to meet him.
But as we were getting off the plane, we were talking about the college football committee.
And he said, he made a comment about, well, the committee would never
would never do that they want better matchups they want this i i don't think people realize that the
committee does not ponder the things that you think they ponder that's not part of the deal they don't
sit in the room and go we'll rank this team this one and this way and this one is we know it'll be
better for tv they're not they're not thinking about that they do not do that so if that's where
they're ranked that's where they'll play yeah i hope they don't but i was just looking at like if
this was the top 11 how would they rank these teams relative to one of
another, not how would they rank BYU relative to Texas Tech, how would they rank
BYU relative to Ole Miss and Oregon and Virginia and Louisville?
Like, where would they put them?
So I put them where I thought they'd put them.
And that happened to be right next to each other at eight and nine where they would play.
But I don't, they're not going to care.
Like if they're seven and ten, that's what they're going to be.
They're not going to be like, oh, no, let's split 10 and 11.
Everybody has different like opinions about rematches in college football.
of like, oh, we already saw this matchup.
I don't want to see it again because, like, the fun of bowl season used to be,
you get to see matchups between teams that never play each other and it was new.
But I'm all for the third matchup if they were one and one in the first two.
Like, I'm all for that.
The rubber match.
Yeah, it would be very interesting.
If a team won the first two, I wouldn't want to see them play again.
But if it was one, I already don't like rematches to begin with, but those are inevitable.
If the rematches are one and one, I'm all for the third time.
We didn't get a rematch last year in the playoff, did we?
We didn't.
I don't remember.
I don't think we did.
So we'll find out, but.
We're going to get one played in the playoff last year.
Oh, duh.
Yes, we did.
Ohio State Oregon.
Yep.
Sorry.
Got one.
And it was different than the result of the regular season game.
Yeah.
All right, let's stick at noon.
Indiana going to Penn State in a game that we thought at the beginning of the year was going to be awesome and crazy.
We did not expect the road team to be favored.
by two touchdowns, but that is the case.
Indiana is a 14 point favorite going to zombie Penn State where they will play zombie nation
and it'll be very fitting when they're, oh, oh, oh, oh, because they're all zombies because their
head coach got fire.
I'm trying to say this nicely, and I'm not going to say it nicely.
Penn State is there was no fight on Saturday.
We saw that up close.
And I understand.
There was a fight for a minute.
and then it ended yeah i mean i guess that's not true you're right they did fight pretty hard
to be down three at half time the second half is the only thing i remember and like the second half
was wheels falling off and like it is kind of crazy to think that indiana is a 14 point favorite
against penn state if you would have like zoomed out on the lower third of this podcast and showed
somebody this in 2021 it's still super amusing to me like how much has changed dude indiana
is a every week everybody is like there's no so many points that's so many points that's so
many points i made a pact with you and i think that you're going to agree with me here i'm laying
on indiana until they don't cover man and like i don't know if penn state is just like going to just
you know fall apart all the way to the end until they hire a coach and restabilize the program
but like the fact that this is in state college is certainly a thing but i can't imagine the crowd's
going to be as insane as it typically is i'm sure there'll be a lot of people there who support their
team no matter what and I'm still will be loud but it's not going to be like a white out type
situation like I just I think that Indiana is in the Ohio state class of dominant
and Penn State is just veering way too far off in the wrong direction for obvious reasons
I'm laying the point here I'm going Indiana all the way so Indiana played without some of its
best players Aiden Fisher was was out on against Maryland
Drew Evans one of their guards didn't play Elijah Surrat
he went out with a hamstring injury.
I think most of these guys are going to be back.
We'll see about Sarat because that's one of those
you don't really want to push it too hard
because you do want him later in the season
and they can win this game without him.
But I think they'll be it closer to full strength
against Penn State than they were against Maryland.
And so again, I'm with you.
It was 55 to 10.
Oh, okay.
And that's what I'm getting at.
here. I'm with you. I'm not picking against Indiana until they don't cover a spread because they
just beat the living crap out of people. And if you actually believe that Indiana is in the same
conversation now, I don't know if Indiana has as many good players as Ohio State from top
to bottom, but they have a lot of really good players that puts them at least at number two.
My God, they are so good. They are so good. They are playing anger.
like he coaches with venom in his veins dude
he wants to he doesn't want to win games he wants to embarrass his opponent
and I wonder if you gave Kurt Signetti truth serum
and you're just like dude what's going on here
I think that he wants to embarrass people because he is resentful
of the way that Indiana was framed for the past year
I really do I think that's fine about that
had to Monday thought of like the only way
Indiana can legitimize itself is by running it up on everybody they play
even if the team is overmatched.
They have blood on their hands every single week,
and I anticipate they'll do that again.
You don't think that he wants to go out to state college
and run Penn State off of its own field?
Oh, I think he does.
I think he absolutely does,
and I wouldn't be shocked if they do.
Like, again, I can't pick against them
if they keep doing this.
Like, there's just no way.
I'm going to need to see somebody keep up with them.
And, you know, there was a thought, too.
it's like, well, Penn State's going to Ohio State.
They still have a lot of really good players.
Maybe they'll keep this game close.
If Penn State would have lost to Ohio State like 28 to 21 or 28, 17 or something,
and it was like a mucked up lower scoring affair where they never really had a shot to win,
but they still were like within a score or two, then I might be thinking differently.
But the fact that Ohio State didn't even break a sweat in the second half and blew them off the field
makes me feel like that, you know, that's a wrap there in State College this year.
Yeah.
So that's probably what's going to happen.
Again, if somebody covers against them, maybe I'll change my mind.
But I am probably picking Indiana to cover until the Big Ten championship game.
And then we'll see what that spread is.
Like that, that's the most interesting question is.
What's the Ohio State Indiana spread going to be?
Obviously, Ohio State is going to be favored, but I don't know by how much.
So we'll find out.
But it's going to be big spreads for the rest of the way for the Hoosiers.
And until somebody covers one, I'm picking the Hoosiers to cover.
Okay.
Love it.
All right.
And at tomorrow's show, I want to go on a five-minute rant about why I think Auburn should hire James Franklin, but I don't know if now is the time.
Nope, now is not the time, but you can save that for our show and everybody put a pin in that one, because I do, I'm interested to hear that one.
I want to give you time to workshop it.
You might be able to work a column out of that, too.
Yeah, I think I want to do that.
Ari, before we pick the Missouri, Texas A&M game, let's talk a little bit about Roeback.
That's right I'm wearing Roeback right now.
Love the hoodies, the polos, the Q-Zips, the performance long sleeves.
Look, there's Marcel Reed, a Roeback athlete in the Texas A&M branded Hezzy hoodie.
Oh, that is a beautiful thing.
If you want your school's gear in Roeback version, go to rowback.com, R-H-O-B-A-C-K-com.
Use the code Andy for 20% off your first order.
I'm telling you those Hezzy hoodies are the most comfortable things in the world.
I know that Kalyn DeBoer has his black hoodie of death.
You can get your own black hoodie of life from Roeback.
If you're a Bama fan, looking at a picture of it right now.
So go to Roeback.com.
R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
Those helmet-stripe, quarter-zips are fire.
There's the Ohio State one.
They sent me the Florida one.
It is beautiful.
All right, they got it all at Roeback.com.
So go to Roeback.com.
R-H-O-B-A-C-K.
Use the code Andy for 20% off your first order.
Now let us go to Columbia, Missouri.
Let us have a slice of Shakespeare's pizza.
Let us have a Booch's Burger.
You ever had a Boots burger, Ari?
I've never been or stepped foot in Columbia, Missouri in my life.
Oh, you're missing out.
Boots is kind of a divey bar, and they make these little greasy burgers that are so, like, you would, you would eat 50 of them.
It's really a shame that I have never been there.
There are places that I am super remorseful that I've never seen a game at.
that. But I have been in, I think, like, 95% of the college towns, even if I haven't seen a game, I've never stepped foot in Como. And we need to change that. We do need to change that. So they're still working on the stadium. They're still making some improvements there. So maybe by the time they get at that finish, we can get you there.
It's funny, too, because half the people in our business went to school there because it's a big journalism school. So there's a lot of, like, Missou Pride within the sports writer community. So I've always- And it's interesting because, like,
they have battered tiger syndrome, just like the Aggies have battered Aggie syndrome,
because Missou, like, there's always something that would happen to Missou,
like the flea kicker against Nebraska, I think the fifth down against Colorado
happened to Missou.
So, like, they've always had these things that happened to them.
The most recent misfortune, of course, was losing Bo Perbula to an injury in the Vandy game.
And this is their first game back since that game.
So we're going to see Zoller starting for Missouri.
This is obviously not the position they wanted to put him in,
but he was a very highly rated prospect.
I remember seeing him at our Elite Series event,
you know, a couple springs ago,
and watching him throw,
and he's just messing around.
We had a football out there,
and everybody was throwing around.
I was like, man, this guy throws rockets.
So excited to see what,
what he looks like as the starting quarterback, Matt Zollars.
Obviously, this is not the position they wanted to put him in as a true freshman.
But I do think he has the talent to win games for them.
But this is obviously not the defense you want to see in your first start.
Interestingly, though, I-
Great picture.
River just chose, too.
Holy, holy facial expression on that guy, huh?
Look at that.
It's terrifying.
So last year, this game had some weird quarterback dynamics, too.
because it was one of those where Marcel Reed had been playing for the Aggies
because Connor Wegman had been hurt and Wegman got healthy and they put him in to play
against Missouri to start the game and it was a bit of a surprise and it looked like Missouri
had prepared for a completely different offense, which it had.
It had prepared for the one that we're running with Marcel Reed and Missouri got shocked
by that and A&M controlled the game the entire time and then didn't switch back to Marcel
I'll read until the second half of the LSU game.
Now, this is just the Texas A&M offense.
You don't really need to surprise anyone with this offense.
It's scary enough as it is.
So let's go back to the spot versus game.
Yep.
Because I don't think that there's any debate that we believe that A&M is a better team this year.
Right, but they're a seven point favorite on the road against a good team.
So let's just talk about.
college football for a second.
How many teams, and I'm going to join the SEC thing for a talking point for a second,
let's just see that the SEC's gauntlet is, in fact, much more difficult than every other
conference and that the lower tier teams and the conference are still a hell of a lot more
talented than lower tier conferences or players and teams in the other conferences.
How many times do you think if you had to guess over the course of the next 20,
five years with the information that you have now that a team will finish unbeaten in SEC
play going into the conference championship game it will be very infrequent so my question to you
and obviously A&M has more games to play they still have to play Texas on the road that they're
not out of the woods yet but don't you think they might just get bitten somewhere just
because if you're if you're going to drop one this is the spot where you drop one it's a it's a road game against a good team that needs this win badly that needs this win more than you need this win now i've been pumping up a and m all year saying this isn't your daddy's a and m throw your b a s out the window all those things but i don't actually think that it even matters if they lose you know um no because they can lose this game and lose to texas and they'd still make the playoff now obviously if you win this game that basically i think that might
might punch your ticket to the playoff.
So you want to do that.
If not, it would be a pretty high over 90% likelihood that you make it,
even if you lost to South Carolina and Texas,
which I don't think is going to happen.
I'm going to take the points here just because I think that seven's a lot for the
spot that they're in.
They might end up winning by five, six, or whatever.
They might even win by more than seven.
I've been wrong constantly.
But I think that this is a lot of points considering the spot that they're in,
especially considering the fact that, you know,
Missouri is a tough place to play
and they still feel
I can definitely see this being a very close
one possession game
that turns on a turnover
I can see it
but I also have been listening to a very intelligent
person named Ari Wasserman all season long
who tells me that these aren't my daddy's Aggies
and they're coming off an open week
so the whole
right the whole grind of the SEC
schedule thing that we were talking about
with the Aggies
it doesn't really apply when you're coming off an open week.
So I don't think that's what gets them.
I think if they lose is because of what I said earlier,
they're on the road against a really good team
that needs to win more than Texas A&M needs to win.
But I also think this is a very different Texas A&M team.
They may be the most complete team in the SEC top to bottom.
We'll see.
I think Alabama would have something to say about that.
But they may be.
So give me Texas A&M to cover the seven points at Missouri.
I say this with some trepidation because I'm with you on the spot,
but I also am with you on that these aren't your daddy's Aggie.
So it's a, how do I want to agree with you is the question.
Well, yeah, I also think, too, that winning by four on the road would still mean they're not your daddy's Aggies.
I agree.
I think that you, I could be right in both regards.
And I still think that if A&M loses, they're still not your daddy's.
these Aggies. I think that they're a much better complete team that has a chance to make a real
run in January, which is really what the point is here. No one cares about how good you are in the
regular season. Ask Oregon last year how many people are celebrating their year last year. It doesn't
matter. What matters is, are you team that's built to make a run and get hot at the right time?
And maybe Texas A&M will just run the table going into the Texas game and maybe they'll finish
the regular season unbeaten in the SEC. I love Elko. I love their roster. Marcel
Reed is a fun, swaggy player to watch. I don't need it to explain again how many reasons why I love
the team that I've been picking to do this all year.
Seven's a lot of points on the road.
Yes, I think.
No, I agree with you on the spot.
I just, at this point, they've earned my faith.
So I'm going to pick them to cover.
Let us go to Iowa City.
Oregon visits Iowa.
Oregon is a six-point favorite on the road.
We should have played guess the line on this.
when we did the early preview
I don't think this is the line I would have picked
I think I would have gone a little bit lower
I think I would have gone Oregon by three and a half
interesting
interesting really
I might have gone Oregon a little higher
if I were interesting
interesting so the one thing that we
failed to do yesterday
when we did our video on this game
that you can find on the YouTube channel
on our YouTube channel, is
acknowledged the weather conditions that Oregon and
Wisconsin played in.
It was bad. It was a lot of rain.
A lot of rain. It was very windy.
And they won by 14. Now, Wisconsin stinks.
Iowa is much better than Wisconsin. The game's on the road.
I anticipate that Iowa will put in a much better fight
than Wisconsin did, just because of how good they are.
But I also have been banging my fist against the table
all year trying to figure
out why we have stopped talking about Oregon as a national title contender at the same frequency
as some of the other teams that are in similar questions. They've been playing bad teams since they lost
Indiana. That's right. But they're still there. They've been floating around out in the atmosphere
like a duck does by a pond and no one's talking about them. I want to talk about them. I think
Oregon is the type of team that Iowa is going to fail to keep up with. And I don't know if that
means that I think they're going to win 42 to 10. I don't know that I think that. But I do think
that a touchdown or better in this game is a high likelihood if Oregon comes in and plays well.
I don't know if I believe that Iowa is going to be able to keep up in this game.
Maybe I'll be wrong.
Maybe it'll be cold.
Maybe it'll be still be windy.
I don't know.
Maybe it'll be raining or snowing.
I don't know what the weather conditions are there.
I am glad you brought them up because I've looked them up.
Okay.
So it could be a beautiful day there.
we're looking at potentially high 54 low 32 this is a 2.30 p.m. local start.
So you could be dealing with perfect football weather.
Cloudy skies early will become partly cloudy later in the day.
Slight chance of a rain shower.
There's a 24% chance of rain.
Now, the wind is projected to be coming from the south-southwest at 13 miles an hour.
So if it's a little, if it's that consistently, then it might be a little bit different.
difficult to throw the ball. And then if it's difficult to throw the ball and Oregon has to
telegraph what it's going to do offensively and Iowa can just load the box, then we are going
to just pick the under and it's going to be a very close game. Okay. So did we telegraph where we're
going here? I think you did. I think I did too in different directions. I think we're going in different
directions on this, aren't we?
I'm going to pick Oregon.
Yes, that's what I thought you were.
Yeah, I'm going to pick Oregon.
Here's the other thing.
Ralph Russo loves that I don't care about the weather and I don't look at it.
How, if you have a 24% chance of rain showers on Saturday in the specific window this game is being played.
I'm not worried about the rain.
How accurate on Monday is that projection usually?
Probably not.
They, they, and I could get worse, too.
I don't know.
Like, does that weather report mean anything on Monday?
Like, in general, if you are a person who does things outdoors and checks the weather for your upcoming event,
do you take a lot of stock and what the projections say is going to happen on Saturday if it's Monday?
Is that like a weather person thing?
Or is that like a dart at the, you know, this is what it looks like could happen, but it's unpredictable.
I live in Florida.
So I can tell you right now what they tell you on Monday doesn't mean squat by Saturday.
So not just Florida.
I just don't know, like if you, and I'm trying to think of like where are some.
of Oregon's best players from Texas.
Oregon's quarterback's from Detroit.
Kenyon Sadie is from Idaho.
It's not like they've in Portland gets Portland and Eugene get cold as shit too.
Well, yeah.
See, I don't worry about Oregon in the cold.
Like Oregon and the cold is not a problem.
They play in the cold.
So you care about Oregon and the rain,
which you would care about any high flying offense in the rain.
I care about anybody in the wind.
The wind is, is exactly like we talked about the BYU, Texas tech game.
Like Lubbock is a, you know,
notoriously windy place to play and it can mess with teams that throw a lot and like the the
Texas tech players are used to it and so that helps them uh Iowa City not a notoriously windy
place but if it is windy and it is hard to throw well Iowa it's always hard to throw for them
so then it just becomes a you know you just get sucked into their game and what did I say on
the on the preview of you if Oregon gets sucked into an Iowa game.
game, I think Iowa can win outright. If Oregon plays an Oregon game and makes Iowa play an
Oregon game, Oregon's going to win by a lot. Yes or no. Is Oregon a national title contender
in your mind? I don't know. I want to see the Iowa and USC games before I tell you that.
That's a cop-out answer. It's not. Yet last year at this time, I would have said a definitive yes. It's
their national title.
I've kidnapped you, okay?
We are off.
Best team they played, they lost to.
I've kidnapped you.
We are in my car,
and I'm driving to an undisclosed location.
You're tied up in the back team.
Yep, yep, yep.
And I said, I know the answer to whether Oregon
is a national title contender in my brain.
I know it.
If you answer this correctly,
I will let you out and you can go home.
And if not, I'm driving this car off a cliff
and jumping out at the last second.
Okay.
What would you answer?
Oregon's a national title contenders.
Okay, me too.
It took a minute to get there.
I just wanted you to say it.
Now, do you think that Iowa, as well as they are playing,
is going to play a one touchdown game with a national title contender?
They already have.
Okay.
We've actually seen it happen.
You're acting like it's theoretical.
We have watched them do it against Indiana.
Okay.
All right.
You got Oregon.
I feel really good about Oregon this week.
Now, I'm...
I will take Iowa to cover.
I don't think I was going to win.
win the game. I think Iowa's going to muck the game up. Okay. I actually think that this is the
game I'm most excited to watch this week. It is definitely the game I'm most excited to watch.
And if Iowa wins this thing, Iowa was a legit playoff contender. They'd still have to beat USC
and they'd have to beat Nebraska. But if they can beat Oregon, they can beat either of those two teams.
I think that would be really cool too because Kirk Farron would have had like six or seven teams
during his time at Iowa that would have made the 12-team playoff, you know, had it existed during
the time he had those teams.
Obviously, he's getting up there in age and is one of the longer, is it the longest
tenured coach in college football now?
He is, yes.
You know, it would be cool to see him make it one year before he's finished there.
So, and Iowa fans have been through a lot the last few years.
Like, their entire existence on our podcast since its inception was to be made fun of.
today's this weekend's an opportunity to be completely opposite of that and and show the world that you're a legit dean and you know maybe they will i don't know i'm wrong if you're an iowa fan i'd be excited to hear that i picked against you yeah go check rye's record iow fans go check my record it's dog shit yep
all right let us move to nashville zombie auburn new zombies freshly created zombies
they are headed to Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt is a seven-point favorite coming off a loss at Texas
where they got jumped on early and then almost came back
to force overtime but did not come back.
So they are now fighting for their playoff lives.
Vandy has to win this game to stay alive.
Auburn playing under interim coach DJ Durkin
after Hugh Freeze was fired.
I ask you the same question I asked before the Florida Georgia game.
last week, do the zombie tigers play better offensively than the non-zombie tigers?
Because I don't think you can be much worse than putting up three against Kentucky at home.
Does the fact that DJ Durkan as a defensive coach change your mind on it or impact your decision making it all?
No, because DJ Durkan has been coaching the competent unit all season.
So the guy who coaches the competent unit being in charge.
gives me a little more hope
that the other side of the ball
might look competent.
You and I were sitting five feet
from each other while this game was on
the entire evening on Saturday.
Watching that
if that was not on a quad box
and it was like the only game on,
I think I would be blind right now.
You would have just gone for the bleach.
Or my eyes would have just given out.
I don't know what it is,
but every ounce of my body wants to pick
Auburn right now and like also while saying I think they stink so I don't know what to do here
like I have no idea who to pick or why I would pick them now Vanderbilt I don't think is no longer
a good team because they lost to Texas in fact I thought they showed a lot of heart in the fourth
quarter almost coming back from a 24 point deficit I think they're still a good team they're still
a very good team and I think Auburn is a broken team the if this was Hugh Freeze still I would
be picking Fandy. I don't know how to
properly account for zombie Auburn, who I think is the
scariest zombie of all zombies. That's, that's it right
there. Zombie Auburn is scary than zombie
Florida, scary than zombie LSU, way scary than zombie
Penn State. Zombie UCLA is the
benchmark so far. Zombie UCLA is a scary team too.
But zombie Auburn, I'm telling you right now,
you got to worry about zombie Auburn
zombie Auburn is like
they're not just up from the dead
they're coming to murder you
like they're unpredictable
they're just scary I'm gonna
I'm just going to pick Auburn here
we do okay do we even know
who's going to play quarterback for a
I don't know anything about them all I know is that
they are not going to be taken down with a single shot
like if you're DJ Durkin would you be like
hey deuce Knight you want to try this
it could do
anything it could mean anything
that's the problem with zombies like you really know unless you shoot them in the head you don't know what's going to happen so you know too if you're betting this game with your real money you're mentally ill like this isn't like this is like this is for entertainment purposes only yeah we we pick the games that we think are the most interesting games to talk about the next game will be the prime example of that but could you imagine putting your real money on auburn this week and just going like yeah i believe this is going to work out for you you're an absolute psychic but for the same
reason it would be hard to put real money on Vanderbilt knowing how unpredictable this version
of Auburn's going to be. Yeah, you know when you're playing poker, it's harder to play with
somebody who doesn't know how to play than it is with somebody who understands the concepts of
the rules because a person that doesn't know how to play has two live cards at all times. They don't
know if it's a smart thing to fold or raise, check, full, whatever. They're just out there and it's
just a complete, that's what Auburn is this week. Like Vanderbilt is a professional poker player
and they're playing with somebody who just learned how to play the other day.
And every now and then, when the cards come out and that turn and river hit,
the idiot that's holding 7-2 hits a flush on accident.
I'm just saying what happens.
Ari, Fandie's a seven-point favorite.
Auburn, seven-point dog in this game.
You taking Auburn?
Yeah.
Unfortunately, I think I'm taking Auburn, yeah.
You know who else is taking Auburn?
No, don't do it.
This guy.
Zombies!
brains and who has the biggest brains in the SEC
the Vanderbilt Commodores big juicy brains
for the zombies to eat they have big brains
brains it's gonna look so funny when they post the graphic of our picks
and they're just like these guys are like standing arm and arm picking
off and you have to listen to the segment to know how
it's 54 to 7 yes it's like
like as if like there's any real analysis put into this like
this is the part where I remind you that we've we've added a
segment on Thursday's show every week called the Mulligan segment.
We may revisit this.
I'm not just worried now.
You know, I have pocket kings right now, and somebody who just learned how to play poker
the other day just went all in.
They could have any games.
They could have aces or they could have 9-3 offsuit.
I don't know what they are, but there's a chance that the flop is 9-39.
Giant.
juicy
brains
okay
enough
we've tortured
the people
enough with that one
let's torture him
some more
with a game
that you should not
spend your actual
money on
Florida State
is going to
Clemson
Clemson is a
two and a half
point favorite
what do you
like the poor guy
at BenMGM
who makes this line
what do you think
he was doing
like do you think
he's just like
why are we
even doing this
why are they even
I think it's a computer that does it.
Yeah.
There's a dude in the back with a calculator and wearing like yellow tinted glasses coming up with these.
Some of these places have a genius who's just.
Yeah, like Ace Rothstein is just back there just handicapping plays.
Like it's 1963.
I don't know.
The ACC is going to be healthy again one day when Florida State, Clemson, and Miami are all good at the same time.
And for a week, I think it might have been two weeks.
Florida State, Clemson, and Miami were all ranked in the top 15 nationally this year in the polls.
Miami, Florida State, and Clemson all have more than one loss in the ACC on.
At least Miami makes the graphic of the top eight.
Florida State and Clemson don't even make the graphic.
Buddy, what does this bowl game call?
The toilet bowl?
I don't know what we are calling this.
Like, Davosweeney just like said, this is my fault.
I did a terrible job this year.
Please forgive me and don't fire me.
Let's hear from Davosweeney because
Davosweeney was talking about how 2010 was his toughest year.
This was at the press conference after the Duke loss.
He also got fined for saying that the past interference call
at the end of the game was one of the worst calls he's ever seen.
He got fined 10 grand by the ACC.
But he was talking about.
talking about how bad 2010 was and where this compares to that.
And he pointed out that Graham Neff, the athletic director for Clemson,
was sitting in the press conference on Saturday.
Here's Dad.
That was a really brutal year.
And, you know, lost at home here to South Carolina.
I thought I was getting fired right here in this room.
Actually, I walked out right there and walked around.
And, Kath, you know, may get fired today.
Graham's sitting in the back there.
so I don't know.
But, you know, can you say I blame him.
But, yeah, my wife's waiting on me crying and I walk in the, you know,
Terry Don's in the office and I literally thought I was getting fired.
And Terry Don Phillips, you know, hug me.
And he said, I believe in you more now than I ever did.
And we're going to get this thing fixed and you just keep being who you are.
And, you know, that was a really.
low, low, low, walking off the field that day.
So I would say 2010 and then obviously this season, incredibly disappointing.
You know, season's not over.
I mean, we're going to fight and battle and see if we can finish somehow,
some way on a positive note.
But this is, I mean, we've had 14 great years, but this is definitely the worst we've had since then.
Boy, that sounds like a guy who's excited to play the Knowles this weekend.
Do we have any clips from Mike Norvell news conference?
I mean, he's happy because they beat Lake Forest 42 to 7.
Yeah, I don't know what's going to happen here.
The game's in Clemson.
I'm going to just take points as an asset and hope for the best.
I don't know how to break this down.
If you have any, like, insightful thought process on this, then go for it.
But, uh, both defenses are probably going to stink.
It could be very similar to what we saw in the Clemson Duke game.
which turned on a pass interference call that Davo called the worst he's ever seen.
It was a pretty bad call, but they also gave up 46 points.
So it does, does it really matter that you gave up, that you had one bad call.
And just so you know, Duke, the team that beat Clemson 46 to 45 still only has one loss in the ACC, too.
And Dary and Mensa is awesome.
And like they're not a terrible team.
Cooper blockade the transfer from.
Harvard is lighten it up.
One of the best transfer receivers we've seen this year.
Do you know that I wrote a huge story?
Okay.
And his plan was always to like graduate.
He graduated from Harvard, right?
He did.
Yeah.
Yeah, his plan was always to graduate from Harvard and then go play power football.
If it goes well at the next, you know, as a grad.
And of course, that dude picked Duke.
if people don't know this Cooper Barcate is like exactly how I think Andy would try to raise his kids
which is uh and his dad's like a very successful person and there was a story and I'll never
forget this he took Cooper Cooper Barcate's dad who was the leading receiver for Duke this past
weekend took him to a football game when they were like when he was like six years old
and Cooper the kid said to his dad man being one of those guys would be the best job in the
entire world. And his dad goes, you know what the best job of the entire world actually is?
And Cooper looked up him and goes, what? And he goes, the guy who owns the team who's sitting
up there in the box. And then that kid was a four-star player from Newport Beach, California, and
had Power Five offers, and he chose Harvard. He was going to go get a degree at Harvard. And
then he was going to go play Power Conference football as a grad, and of course he picked Duke.
And it's working. It's working. But like, that guy's going to own a team one day. And he's
also lighting up Clemson's defense. By the way,
taking Florida State.
That's a long way of saying. I'm taking Florida
State after they got... No, but I thought it was a bad
by Harvard, man. You always
talk so much about how everyone's selling out for the bag
and everyone wants, and I get it. Like, he's from
Newport Beach. I'm sure his father's doing well
financially. They already had the bag. The bag.
It's not like it's like some sort of heartwarming story, but like you do
feel so much for people who just like try
to like go to the best place or
try to get to the NFL students possible.
or take the biggest bag and it doesn't work out.
Like I actually thought it was refreshing to hear somebody
like have an actual plan that emphasizes education
while also like doing the best he can to be football.
And now he's the leading receiver for Duke.
So I'm happy to hear that their plan is actually working out.
I don't know if he'll be in the NFL.
He's a really good player.
But if he's not, he'll probably be in an NFL front office
with, you know, some ownership stakes somewhere.
I'm rooting for him.
So I'm trying to figure out what to pick in this game.
The Florida State Wake Forest game is really screwing me.
up. Because Wake Forest came into that game
riding high. They just beat an SMU.
Remember, they should have probably beaten
Georgia Tech. There was an
off-sides that was not called.
I
was sure that was going to be a close game.
And Florida State blew their doors off.
I have no clue what version
of Florida State this is.
I suspect maybe the Florida
State finally just kind of clicked. They
out-athleted them.
They will not out-athlete
Clemson. So it will be much closer. And I have no clue what to what to pick in this game.
Dabo is basically telling the AD, don't fire me, but fire me if you want. Like, Mike Norvell doesn't
want to be fired, but could get fired and would be paid a bajillion dollars if he did. Is Davo in actual
danger of being fired this year? Like, is that happened? I don't think he is, right? No. Nope. Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
but Mike Norville is and that's what's interesting here yeah and if you want to
go off of the most recent thing that happened which I think is fine because vibes are good
Florida State lost to Stanford this year yeah just that out there yeah that's what makes
this so hard that this would have actually been a pretty easy Clemson pick had Florida
State not done that to Wake Forest last week but now I'm very confused
So you're taking Florida State because they're getting points in a game.
Which is logical.
Yeah.
Very logical.
I think Clemson puts it together this week, like Florida State put it together last week.
So I'll take Clemson to cover.
They don't have to cover very much.
Clemson's lost a bunch of games, but Clemson hasn't looked like a, I mean, losing 34 to 21 to Syracuse is bad, but that was before Angelie was out, right?
That was, yeah.
Like, I don't know how, like that losing the Syracuse looks bad now, but I don't know if it did in the moment.
Um, they play lost to Syracuse, SMU and Duke at home.
I don't think that Clemson's lows have hit the lows that Florida State has.
That said, Florida State's high was as recent as last week and Florida and Clemson's coming off of it's, it's just, I'm just going to think Florida State's high I was beating Alabama, but yeah, no, but I'm saying like they're, they're riding high right now.
But yeah, um, yeah, give me Clemson in this one.
And if I wish I could do a good reason wise, may the, may the Lord be with you.
That's right.
Back to the zombies.
Zombie LSU plays its first game since the firing of Brian Kelly at Alabama.
Alabama is a 10.5 point favorite.
We talked about last week, zombie Florida being potentially dangerous to Georgia.
We talked just a few minutes ago about zombie Auburn being potentially dangerous to Vanderbilt.
I do not feel the same way about zombie LSU that I feel about zombie Auburn and zombie Florida.
is that fair well just extrapolate on why okay i don't see a huge difference based on the changes
that have been made now they are going to have alex atkins calling plays instead of joe sloan
uh alice ackins was the oc at florida state for three years but he did not call plays
mike norvel was calling plays he did call plays at charlotte for one year and they made a bowl game
that year that's the only time charlotte has made a bowl game in its history as a football
program, I believe.
So he was good as a play caller in his one year doing it.
The question I have is, will he attempt to establish the run?
Will he not abandon the run?
Because that was something that Joe Sloan had a bad habit of doing.
But the other question is, does it matter?
Because I think Alabama is just a lot better than them.
Yeah.
You know, I think that if you were to ask an LSU fan,
if there's any major differences this week,
that Alice Haskins calling plays gives them.
a reason to hope because their number one battering or punching bag has been Joe Sloan all
year. So if you get the person that you think is running an incompetent offense out of the
building, then you have a chance to see something that might be different. And the one thing
that I will say, too, Andy, is that, and I don't know how much this comes to play in Auburn
with Hugh Freeze, but, you know, we alluded to this on the Picks video, we did about this game
a few days ago, or yesterday, I should say, is that like, I don't know how well-liked Brian
Kelly was in the building. And I don't know if there is a attitude adjustment that happens when
the person that's not liked leaves. I don't know how well-liked Hugh Grease was. And that's
like why another reason why Auburn, Zombie Auburn is more demented to even think about. Is that like
maybe there is like a attitude lift in the building just from like the sake of having a change
and trying. Zombie LSU might have that too. I mean, at least all the stories that have come out about
Brian Kelly, like you'd think the players would enjoy playing for Frank Wilson more and
playing for this administration more. The last time we saw LSU playing under an interim
coach was Coach O because remember Coach O did, there was no interim coach after Brad Davis
for the bowl game. But when Coach O got fired, they let him finish out the season. But the
vibes did lift after Les Miles got fired and Coach O came in. So perhaps that happens. But
I still don't know if this team's good enough to beat Alabama, even if everybody
feels great about themselves.
Yeah.
This has been one of the most iconic
matchups on the annual basis.
In the SEC and just in college football in general,
think about how many iconic games were played
between these two teams.
And I think that a point you made on Sunday,
which I really do think there's something to it,
is that a lot of the players on LSU's roster
have grown up, you know, loving LSU,
loving Louisiana,
and where they're from.
A lot of them were recruited by Alabama and chose LSU.
I think there's hatred in this game that can help be a motivating factor,
even if the season is out the window.
I think Alabama is a much better team this year without question.
They put that on, but like 12 and a half points in this game,
when you have the wild card of maybe they'll do something offensively
that they haven't been able to do this year is kind of an enticing thing.
So, like, I want to lay the points here,
but like I also feel like it's a lot.
help me through it. I'm struggling.
I don't know which way to go.
Obviously, whatever I pick is going to be wrong.
But part of me just wants to take LSU and see what happens, you know?
Because also, like, is Alabama just going to score?
What is LSU shown you that when you get in a third and three against Ty Simpson?
Nothing.
The Tye Simpson is not going to carve you up.
Nothing.
Okay.
That's the thing.
I just like overthink stuff sometimes, I think.
Like, what has LSU shown you offensively that makes you think they could score 20 points?
a game nothing but a lot of times you bet on games and things happen that you didn't see coming
and i'm trying to get ahead of that well yeah i just i don't think this is one of those spots
that you talk about yeah do we think alabama's just gonna just run through the SEC and not trip
again i think alabama zombie auburn could be interesting and i remember alabama's got to play
oklahoma next week too yeah all right i'm gonna let me gets oklahoma at home i'm gonna lay the
points i'll go with you on alabama yeah i'm taking alabama here i i just i can't like i i picked
one zombie group i won with zombie florida last week zombie florida covered so yeah what a what a win
for you bud congratulations you're smart hey gunner stockton made the smart play was that that was just
not a catch i don't know i wasn't there well if it was a catch then then they definitely were
going to cover. So yeah. So it's fine. I just, I am struggling to find the path for LSU in this game.
If they're playing somebody else, I might feel differently, but I struggle to find the path
against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Black Hoodie of Death is just, it remains unstoppable.
So yeah, give me Alabama minus 10 and a half. I'll go with you. One more game. Navy at Notre Dame.
a lot about Notre Dame having a Miami problem being blocked by Miami right now.
I don't know if they'll be blocked by Miami.
Maybe when the playoff committee reveals its rankings,
Notre Dame will be ahead of Miami tomorrow night.
That's a question I'll ask you.
Do you think that Notre Dame will be ranked ahead of Miami when the playoff committee
rankings come out tomorrow night?
I don't.
They're heading eight people.
I agree.
I agree with you.
Yeah, they're ahead.
So, like, here's the thing, too, like, even in my poll, I do a top 10 poll that means nothing, but it's just content every Saturday night.
And I have Ohio State number one over Indiana.
I actually think that Indiana will be ranked ahead of Ohio State come Tuesday because the committee doesn't operate on who they think is better.
They operate on the information that they have.
And the information that they have is that Miami has better quality wins, and one of which is, you know, how many top 10 wins does Notre Dame possess?
They've got the same record.
They won head-to-head and they have a top 10 win, whether it's head-to-head or not.
I think that the resume will be emphasized.
I think that if Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Miami,
that is the committee kind of telling you that they're just doing their own thing
and they're just data-driven.
And I think that data points to Miami at the moment.
So Notre Dame is a 25-5 point favorite in this game.
And this is essentially a prediction that what happened last year will happen again
where it was a very good Navy.
team is a Navy team that ended up winning the Army Navy game against the American Champ Army.
But Notre Dame just blew their doors off.
Notre Dame just so superior athletically just leaned on there.
There was nothing that the Navy could do.
If we hadn't seen Navy just lose to North Texas, I might say this spreads too high.
Perhaps Navy can cover it.
But they gave up a bunch of Russia.
yards to North Texas last week.
Like the reason they be lost to North Texas
was the rush defense failed them.
If the rush defense can't stop North Texas,
which has not been the most dominant rushing team this season,
what are they going to do against the team
that actually is maybe the most dominant rushing team
in the country?
Yeah, I think the analysis here is,
did you see what happened last year?
It's going to happen again.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
Now, I think Notre Dame covers in this game.
I think the much more interesting thing
is what happens Tuesday night, now what happens on Saturday.
Yeah, you know, the one thing
that you have to at least acknowledge, and we didn't
talk about it on the show on Saturday night,
recapping all the games because there was so much that happened.
Like, Notre Dame played a one possession game with Boston College
for three quarters.
Yeah, that was a really bad game for it.
And it doesn't matter, they won, we'll forget about it.
It goes into the history, books as a W,
and winning your clunkers is winning your clunkers.
But, like, I don't know.
They're not just blowing everybody.
out right now. They didn't have the
greatest game on Saturday. I'm going to lay the point.
They may not be as good as they were
last year. They might not be as good
as they were last year, but Navy
is Navy as good as they were last year?
I don't know if they are. And the thing is
if North Texas runs on you,
Notre Dame is going to have
lots of success running on you.
Yeah, and the games at Notre Dame last year, weren't they at
Navy?
I've ruled a neutral site or something.
Yeah, I can't remember where that one was last year.
It was not pretty.
anticipate that Notre Dame wins, I don't know, 49 to 20 or something.
Well, that would cover the spread.
So, oh, they played on a baseball field last year.
Yeah, yeah, I knew they, that's, that's right.
They played on a neutral site, yeah.
So we'll find out that we want to, do we want to lay any odds on, on the CFP rankings,
or we're just going to, I think we both think that Notre Dame is going to be behind Miami.
So that's going to be really interesting because you, you are correct in,
that the AP poll adjusts to the CFP rankings is not the other way around.
The AP poll, people rank their feelings.
Yeah.
They're the perfect AP poll voter.
Yeah.
I'm like putting Ohio State over Indiana in my poll is a feelings ranking.
Indiana has a better resume than Ohio State.
So I think the resume typically will win out because they have a criteria.
The criteria is flushed out in more information documents.
and PDF files and a human being can even internalize.
And I think that they use the data as their North Star.
So I anticipate that Miami will be ranked ahead of Notre Dame.
And I anticipate that Indiana will be number one on Tuesday night.
We'll find out.
Programming Update.
So we'll have our regular show on Tuesday that drops at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on the
on three sports YouTube channel.
Dan, Big Cat, Cats from, pardon my take, the biggest podcast in the world.
It's the biggest sports podcast in the world.
It might be the biggest.
podcast in the world depending on the episode. So he is a huge college football guy. Wisconsin grad would
talk to him about what's going on at Wisconsin right now. Also talk to him about Ohio State and where
these Buckeyes rank relative to last years because he's done a bit on his show for a while about
is this Ohio State team better than last years. And it started out as a bit and I'm not sure
it's a bit anymore. But we'll talk to Big Cat about all of that and his trip to Starkville that's
coming out this weekend. Plus, on Tuesday.
night, be with us live when the rankings come out. So you don't need to worry about
clicking on your TV. If you're subscribed to the On3 Sports YouTube channel, you will just get
the push notification that we are going live. Like, oh, Andy and you are going to tell me what the rankings
are. Click on that. Watch it. We will analyze as the rankings come out. And like I said,
it's not going to just be who's in the top 12 because I think that Miami Notre Dame thing is
going to happen outside the top 12 and when we see the first logo revealed and figure out
which one is ranked ahead of the other it's going to be the most interesting thing that happens
for sure yeah no i'm excited i can't wait to to get into this portion of the season and you know i
love yelling about the playoff stuff it's my favorite thing absolutely yeah it'll probably
there'll be something that pisses on a mac game or something while it's going on too so we have
that ipad open over here we got the playoff over here we're going to be good oh buddy it's november
Maction is coming.
Maxion is time.
So this is going to be a fun, fun week.
We'll talk to you tomorrow at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
But again, tomorrow night, when the rank has come out.
So double dose.
