If you are at home, avoiding your relatives, if you are traveling somewhere, I hope you are happy and healthy. I hope everybody's getting full. I hope everybody's taking a nice post-turkey nap. I hope everybody's ready for a great weekend of college football how we doing are you good yeah that post turkey nap
Starting point is 00:03:55 um is a great a nap it's up there with the master's nap oh yeah yeah it's one of the best naps now you know i i like to do it kind of after the first NFL game ends and maybe through the first quarter and a half of the second NFL game that's usually how i tend to tend to time it out yeah you know i'm in a rough patch right now with my thanksgivings andy because i have a toddler still. And the laying around and not having to get up every 30 seconds aspect of Thanksgiving, which, by the way, is the best aspect of Thanksgiving isn't really a reality for me at the moment. So I'm looking forward, you know, honoring and cherishing these times. Yeah, she's four. You got about six more years. Six more years before. You can take another
Starting point is 00:04:38 nap on Thanksgiving. Lay there. Yeah. But it's my favorite day of the year. I think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it's amazing. Food. Football. I was talking to my, I was doing the college football inquire with, with Ross Dellinger and Stephen Godfrey. And they're both, Ross's family is all from Louisiana. Stephen married into a Louisiana family. And I think they've got me talked into, in addition to making mac and cheese for Thanksgiving, making a batch of dirty rice as well. Yeah, that's not weird.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Not nearly as weird as Scott Dockerman from the athletic when he came on our show a few years ago and said cottage cheese was a Thanksgiving side. But you know what, Andy? If you're in Iowa and you like cottage cheese, have at it, I just wanted to say, you know, at the cost of being cheesy that I'm thankful for you. I'm thankful for the audience that we've built, the family that we built here. And it's been an honor to do this every day with you this season and to, you know, give this takes, talk about college football and enjoy it with the people who listen. So thank you for being here. Thank you for being my co-host and to the listeners. Thanks for making it possible for us to do it.
Starting point is 00:05:47 what we do. Yes, thank you to all of you. We love you guys. And another person we love, Tyler Shoemaker, going to join us to give us the best bets for this weekend. Now, we've done all the huge games. There's some down-the-board games that are very, very interesting. So let's talk to our friend Tyler Shoemaker from Veeson about the best bets for this weekend. Tyler Shoemaker, our friend from Vison, the T-Shoe Index, Ari's favorite person, in the world who isn't in his actual family. How are we doing, Tyler? Man, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I'm so excited for this week and excited to be Ari's favorite person, apparently. I mean, I, Tyler will tell you this. I have made this joke, and I don't know if it's a joke. I was like, do you want to, because he has children, he's got a life. Do you want to move to Vegas and be my roommate? Like, I would do that, I think. Like, would you abandon your family and just go live that way? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:42 If you, you could catch me at the right time and the right mood. And I'd be like, all right, let's do it. Let's go. Let's get a condo. Let's get a tasteful condo. I just gamble all day. No, but it's great to have you here. And it's been awesome to tailor your picks and hear your insight. And obviously, this week is a huge week. We have said this on the show. We can't see your shirt right now because you're blocked by a graphic. But you are, indeed, an Ohio State fan. But you never allow your fanhood or what you want to happen to supersede responsible gambling on the games. And I wanted to ask you a question. on Thanksgiving, because I'm sure you're thankful to be a Buckeye fan.
Starting point is 00:07:20 But if your number overwhelmingly said that Michigan was the play this week, would you bet Michigan? Like, what's more important to your fanhood or making money? I mean, I think they're probably equally important. So, for instance, like in 2023, I think if I recall Michigan was a six-point favorite in that game, and I think my numbers had Michigan minus seven. I didn't play it because it's like, then what am I going to do, sit there and watch the game and cheer for Michigan.
Starting point is 00:07:53 So it's like in those type of situations, I just wouldn't play it at all. But when people ask my opinion or what I think, like I'll tell them, hey, my number, my number says this. If I wasn't a fan of this team, I would bet this way, but I'm not going to do that and make myself even more miserable watching the game. So where's your number this week? I'll write, right with the market.
Starting point is 00:08:16 I've got Ohio State minus 10 and a half. Okay. The last couple of weeks, I've been kind of tweeting out the last couple of weeks, like my look ahead number on it. It's been between like 10 and a half, 12 and a half over the last few weeks. So right in line with the market. So really, there's really no value to be had anyway at this number. Well, let's go find some games where you have found some value.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Let's go down the board. So Friday, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia and Georgia Tech. We picked this game on Monday, Tyler, and this was the biggest spread of the games we picked. And it's a tight, the spreads are very tight this weekend in the big games. But this one is Georgia is a 13 point favorite against the Yellow Jackets. These teams played an eight overtime masterpiece last year. What is your number say? So my number is right with whether the line was earlier in the week with, which is Georgia minus 13.
Starting point is 00:09:09 That's what I bet. I bet Georgia minus 13. And you may say like, well, why did you bet it if your number. was right in line with the market. And as Ari can attest, like, I've learned over the last several years, this week in particular has kind of killed me in the past because betting only with my numbers like I do the other, you know, 13 weeks of the year can get you in trouble here because I think there's more of an art to it than just science this week.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Because when you talk about rivalries, there's so much, you know, unquantifiable, intangibles that go into it, right? whether it's, you know, coaching, coaches hating each other, just teams hating each other, that sort of thing. There's a lot that you can't quantify. And what I think is going to happen here is Georgia got pushed to the brink by Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech arguably should have won the thriller that we got last year against Georgia. And I think Kirby Smart is the type of coach that is going to take that, show them that film this week, and be like, this can't happen again. And he's had them playing really well over the last month. I mean, Georgia's been as good as anyone over the
Starting point is 00:10:12 last month, I would say. So, you know, Georgia Tech got got caught looking ahead last week against Pitt. So I do think there's like bounce back spot potential here for Georgia Tech. But ultimately, I bet Georgia because I think Kirby's going to have them ready to go. And I don't, I don't think they're going to get caught sleeping like they did last year. This is the first time in our entire relationship where I've heard you explain us petting aside with those types of reasonings. There was no math there. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's, I mean, it's, I I've just learned after getting my butt kicked, betting, you know, uh, 2021 and 2022 in particular stick out.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Like I got absolutely murdered, uh, in this week, uh, in those years because, you know, I try to just do the same old, same old, same old. And it doesn't work this week because there's just so much more that goes into it. So I'm learning this week you have to lean as much, if not more into the art as you do into the science. Well, there you have it, Andy. You have a math person telling you that rivalries just mean more. It's, and that's why this week's so weird.
Starting point is 00:11:12 And the lines are weird, like what the games we're going to talk about here in the next few minutes, they're not games that everybody's talking about because they're not between teams that are trying to get into college football playoff. These are just rivalry games that are interesting because the team's circumstances are really interesting right now. So, Tyler, I want to head to Minneapolis. So Wisconsin, Minnesota, Minnesota crushed Wisconsin last year at Camp Randall. And it was one of those where it's like, oh, God, this Luke Fickle thing is maybe not working out. It was not working out this year either. And then Wisconsin says they're going to keep Luke Fickle. They beat Washington.
Starting point is 00:11:53 They lost Indiana, but not by as much as most people have. And then they go beat Illinois and did it pretty handily. And so now they go to Minnesota as a one and a half point dog, Minnesota coming off consecutive losses to Oregon and Northwestern, they've lost three of four Michigan States to win in there. And it was, if you watch that game, they had to go 100 yards in a minute, essentially, to win it. What are you seeing here? Yeah, I mean, I'm going to ride the hot hand here with Wisconsin. I haven't thought Minnesota was very good all season. Again, obviously, I saw them up close and personal when they played Ohio State. But even that game
Starting point is 00:12:36 aside, I just have not been very impressed with Minnesota. The numbers are not very impressed with Minnesota. I make this game basically a pick-em, and that's, you know, using season-long data. But looking at the last three games, you know, since these teams have kind of started on the trajectory that they're on, I would make Wisconsin a five-and-a-half-point favorite here. So I'm going to, I took Wisconsin plus two earlier in the week. I think the lines down to one, one-and-a-half. At this point, I'd probably just play the money line with Wisconsin, but I think they're going to win the game. Yeah. I think that there's like some like underlying trait that you have. Tyler, which is you like to kick yourself in the balls.
Starting point is 00:13:12 And I don't know what that happened or like what happened in your childhood. But like he always picks the most painful like the like is Wisconsin back? Like they win a few games and now we're we're going to we're going to count on them to win a game on the road. Is that where we're at like fickles back and they're back and we're, you know, but I guess the numbers say what the numbers say, huh? Yeah. I mean, and again, like the numbers are pretty convincing on this game. But but again, even just the again, we talk about the intangible stuff. they're in a huge revenge spot.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Like Andy said, they got killed last year. So I just, I think it's a really good spot for Wisconsin. Minnesota's kind of reeling right now after, I mean, the second half of the season just been awful for them. So I just, I think Wisconsin is going to get it done. That would be such a fascinating turnaround. They would finish five and seven. They wouldn't be ball eligible, but it would be an incredible kind of catapult to next season.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Yeah, we were having conversations about whether we were going to go on. no wins winless year yeah but the thing is like they it was the Washington win was a weird game it snowed they Wisconsin had a quarterback it hurt their punter was their leading pass
Starting point is 00:14:20 from that game the Illinois game was a more conventional like they just kicked Illinois's ass like they ran for 5.3 yards to carry like they look like a different team right now yeah absolutely and I think you know from a betting standpoint that's
Starting point is 00:14:33 those are the type of things you have to look for you have to look for the trends and the teams as much as you know, as much as the priors matter and by priors, I just mean like the week one, week two data. You know, you do have to consider what the teams were earlier in the season. But I think at this point, you also have to look really closely at what they've done lately.
Starting point is 00:14:49 And obviously, these teams are trending opposite ways lately. Now, Ari talks about you wanting to watch painful games. That's not as painful as the other one you brought to us. It's not. So I'm actually flying as far away from Gainesville as I can.
Starting point is 00:15:06 So I don't have to be. in the presence of this game. Florida State at Florida. Florida State is trying to get bowl eligible. Florida is trying to end this season. Can I say mercy killing? Like, it is,
Starting point is 00:15:24 it has just been a nightmare for them. Florida is somehow a one and a half point favorite in this game, probably because Florida State can't win on the road. I wouldn't touch this game with a 10-foot pole, but what are your number saying? Tyler. what's wrong with you man like what happened to you there there there is definitely something wrong with me where i i cannot quit florida state they're just like this is a
Starting point is 00:15:49 multi-year problem guys this isn't like it really a hell of a two-year run to pick florida state every week it's insane yeah you know i don't think i bet on them a single time when they went undefeated but leave it to me to bet them the last two years but no i mean i just i think florida i think I think Andy said it perfectly. Florida is just trying to end this season, period. Like just in the sentence there. Florida's trying to end the season. Whereas, you know, Florida State announces they're going to keep Mike Norville, which, you know, you can have whatever opinion on that you want. But at least I think Florida State at least is playing for some kind of direction for the program here. And it's like, okay, if you end your season beating your rival, you know you're keeping your coach, like you at least have something to hang on to going into the off season. Whereas like Florida is just like, Are they going to get Lane? Are they not going to get Lane? Like, if they don't get Lane, who's going to be their coach? Like, is DJ Lagway even going to be their quarterback next year? He's been benched.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Like, I feel like Florida, for as many problems as Florida State has, I feel like Florida has even more. And the numbers say Florida State should be favored by five here. That's both season long and recent last three games data has Florida State favored by five. I have a formula that kind of estimates based on how these teams are priced, you know, what the line should be based on just the market price. and that also favors Florida State by one. So I think Florida State's going to win the game.
Starting point is 00:17:12 I hope to God I don't have to watch it. My brother, who's a big Gator fan, will be at my house this weekend. So I may be subjected to it. And, you know, Florida wins by 50, then par for the course with me betting Florida State. But I'm going back to the well one more time. It's an ESPN2 game.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Like the fact that this game got shunted the ESPN2 tells you all you need to know. Here's my problem with this, with picking this game at all is Florida. quit against Tennessee and quit against Kentucky, but then played really hard against Georgia and Ole Miss. So what if they decide to play? Because like the way they played against Georgia and Ole Miss will beat Florida State.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Yeah. But the way they played against Kentucky and Tennessee will lose to Florida. I have no idea which team shows up. Yeah. Yeah, no, I mean, both of these teams have just been so, I mean, say Jekyll and Hyde, but Florida State's really just been more high since the Alabama game. So, but we'll see.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Maybe that team shows up for one more. more game. That's, that's what I think you should have to watch every snap of this for bringing this to us. I'm sentencing you to watch every snap of this game. Put a red gag ball in your mouth and watch it. Hey, Tyler, I wanted to ask you something that we touched on Ohio State, Michigan, but there is a secondary angle to this as we are playing this interview. And I don't know if we said it at the beginning. Yeah, we're recording this Tuesday. Tuesday, things could be different by the time you guys see this on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. What is your, your, your process on the injury news with Ohio State. With Cardinal Tate and Jeremiah Smith, I think that
Starting point is 00:18:41 the notion is that they're going to play because of course they are. But if they are limited or one gets ruled out or both get ruled out or like how much can this line move as people are anticipating more information about those receivers? Yeah, I mean, I think I think if it got announced, you know, when the when the availability report comes out Saturday morning, if both of those guys are listed as out, I think you could see like a two to three point line swing here. Now, I personally would not adjust the line that much, but I think you'll see the market react that way. Now, that being said, Ryan Day and Ohio State have not been very forthcoming with injuries. Like there have been guys throughout the season that aren't on the availability
Starting point is 00:19:22 report at all and then don't play in the game. I think Carnell Tate in the Purdue game was not on the availability report and then he just didn't play. So who knows how forthcoming they're going to be with that until that until those injury reports get you know really standardized and teams get penalized for not doing it the right way who knows you know how true they're going to be um but as far as like the football on the field i think even if one of those guys can play and i for what it's worth i do expect at least one of them to play um i think they they require such gravity from the defense that it really will favor Ohio state and just open things up for that Ohio state offense because, I mean, we've seen the last couple of weeks when those guys are not in the game.
Starting point is 00:20:03 The Ohio State receivers in particular have not been great. They've been really reliant on their tight ends in the passing game. So, you know, I think the tight ends are capable. Max Clare is a nice weapon for them. But I think if they just get one of those guys out there, Michigan's going to have to respect it. Regardless, even if they're at 75%, Michigan has to respect that they're on the field, which changes the whole, you know, equation, the whole schematics of the defense. follow me and Ari on social media by the way we will be in the press box in Ann Arbor we will let you know who we see warming up as soon as those as soon as the Buckeyes run out and start warming up we'll let you know I'll be in the back eating the chicken fingers but yeah they don't serve chicken fingers in the morning you get breakfast and I don't know high state Michigan game you gave me shit in the Michigan press box for a noon kickoff about putting ketchup on a chicken finger how do you not remember that you call
Starting point is 00:20:57 me an adolescent and that ketchup isn't a isn't the proper sauce for an adult on a chicken finger and like it's not i still think about that because it's literally what it's made for ketchup exists for chicken fingers and french fries that's that's why it french fries yes chicken fingers no that's what honey mustard hey what do you i love honey mustard uh tyler what's your take on the uh what's your favorite thanksgiving side and what is your take on chicken fingers with ketchup oh favorite favorite thanksgiving side uh i don't does broccoli cassero count as a side or is that like an entree Oh, yeah. Absolutely. I love, I love broccoli casserole. Love a good broccoli casserole. And then with chicken fingers, I'm going ranch or buffalo sauce if it's available. But
Starting point is 00:21:38 ketchup will be like my last resort. Like there's no other sauce and there's ketchup. I'd be like, all right, I'll put some ketchup on there. But you would put it on there. I wouldn't be like, I wouldn't be like repulsed by it. No. Okay. I would eat them naked. You would? Naked. Yeah. Rather put ketchup on them? Why ruin them? Yeah. And I, yeah. Just so you. you guys know because we're not doing a random ranking stuffing is the only answer for best thanksgiving side big big called dressing that's right up there for sure it's like top three in the power ratings yeah it's called dressing and mac and cheese is the king of sides that's all there is to
Starting point is 00:22:10 it tyler thank you so much been a pleasure you guys thanks tyler appreciate you being here time for dear and dear ari happy thanksgiving to tyler time for your questions all right ari it is now time to open the mailbag. We've got some great questions this week. Our first one comes from Sean and Dallas. If you're Mississippi State and you know that Lane is looking to announce his destination after the Egg Bowl, here is what you need to do. Whether it's true or not, just break the news at halftime of the game that Lane is going to either Florida or LSU. The second half should be all Mississippi State once the news gets to the fans and to the players. It's an easy way to get the Ole Miss players head out of the game and start talking about the news. It would be the best troll job
Starting point is 00:22:54 and the best shot Mississippi State has at beating Ole Miss. Ari, this is genius. Yeah, what do you do? You get like a Mississippi State insider involved in the scheme? Well, that's the thing. You have to have somebody, you have to trick someone credible into reporting it. That's the key. Like, you have to make somebody credible report it.
Starting point is 00:23:14 So who do you plant who reports it? That's the part I don't know. Because the key to this whole scheme, Andy, is you have to do it with somebody who, makes the push notifications go off. Yes. Because they'll be in the locker room at halftime. I think people look at their phones at halftime, don't you? I think that the player.
Starting point is 00:23:33 I bet Lane Kiffin does. And imagine like the ESPN notification or something coming off, the On 3 notification. So I mean, obviously Pete Thammel at ESPN probably too well sourced. You're not going to trick him. So that's not going to work. We're not trying to try to like a, could you get Adam Schaefter or somebody or what if, what if you had like Ian Rappapaport? do it at the NFL.
Starting point is 00:23:55 I think he ends too well-sourced, too. That's the problem. These guys are too well-sourced. You couldn't trick it. I don't think we're trying to trick anybody. I think we're trying to get somebody in on the scheme. Oh, Brandon Walker. Who would want to help Mississippi State more than Brandon Walker at Barstall?
Starting point is 00:24:10 Yeah, but if Brandon- has got a big following. He's got a big follow. And break news. Like, no, but it would be amplified enough, just enough so that people would. Although his, his connection's too obvious. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:24 His connection is too obvious to Mississippi State. You know what, man, I'll do it. I'll do it for the right price. You will not. Why, you care too much about me to be your co-host, but I think I could come back. Yeah, you'd be fired and I need a co-host. You know, I'll do it through the phone at a prison. You know, we'll figure it out.
Starting point is 00:24:41 But like the thought process there is crazy. The actual application of the question is true because Mississippi State's best chance at getting Ole Miss, because they're not a bad team. that they can play with them as is. But if their players are distracted or not locked in, but I don't know if you saw Lane Kiffin's news conference earlier. I'd say not at halftime. I'd say you do it pregame.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Yeah. Did you see Lane Kiffin's news conference, though, earlier in the week where someone asked him like how it, how it is to, you know, exist in this tumultuous time with the players on his team and not being too distracted. And he made a really interesting answer about how. Oh, they handled the Florida game just fine.
Starting point is 00:25:19 I'm like, wait, wait, the Florida game where the three-win team was beating you at the end of the third quarter that that florida game no i know but i thought the answer was insightful about like how kids don't really react to what's going to happen in the off season or the future of programs the same way they used to like five years ago because it's like they're all moving too like yeah no it makes sense like if you sign with a team you know in 2005 you probably want your coach to be i remember that like you can't have a contract expiring at less than four years because then you can't convince recruits you're going to be it's like that does not matter
Starting point is 00:25:50 at all then i buy into that anymore like if you're a really good player at all old miss what lane kippin does in the offseason just might open a door for you like i don't think that you're like oh screw this guy um now some people on the roster that would certainly be upset by it i'm not saying that people wouldn't care but like getting the entire roster to go off the deep end and play poorly as a result yeah they wait i don't think they go out the deep end but you could you could get them off balance and i think that's the key here just get them off balance yeah because mississippi state is not as good as old miss no you're gonna need something yeah Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:25 All right. Next question comes from Jeff. Hi, guys. Would you be okay if the college football playoff ever decided to let computers pick the team, a la the BCS days? Between discussions in your show and David Hale's Anger Index this week, I'm starting to wonder if that would be the best option to choose the participants outside of letting Vegas pick the teams, of course.
Starting point is 00:26:43 Okay, so I want to, I think people are forgetting what the BCS era was. Computers did not pick the teams. Computers were a third of the BCC. BCS formula. Two human poles were the other two thirds. So it was mostly humans. So now there's a there's BCS know-how, which is a Twitter feed that does the simulated BCS standings. And it uses the AP poll, the coaches poll, and all the computer rankings that were used in the BCS to simulate what the BCS standings would be now. And you're seeing it on your screen. This is BCS KnowHouse tweet this week of the corrected BCS standings.
Starting point is 00:27:27 Number one, Ohio State, number two, Indiana, number three, Texas A&M, number four, Georgia, nothing different between this and the committee rankings. Here's where it gets a little bit different. Five Oregon, six Ole Miss, seven Texas Tech. So not as high on Texas Tech as the committee is. Eight Oklahoma, nine, Notre Dame, 10, Alabama. That's the same. 11, BYU, 12, Utah, 13, Vanderbilt, 14, Miami.
Starting point is 00:27:52 all basically the same. Yeah. 15 Michigan, 16 Texas, 17 USC, 18 Tennessee, 19 Virginia, 20 North Texas. That's interesting. So North Texas is 20. Tulane to be 21. James Madison would be 22. So a little bit higher ranking for the group of five teams than you see in the committee.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Also, you have to take into account of the AP poll and the coaches poll, you know, start to morph. Like, you know, at the beginning of the year, that's their own things. then I think people cheat off of the CFP rankings afterward, especially reporters. I know they do. But what I'm saying is- your CFP ranking, and then they fill their ballot out that way.
Starting point is 00:28:31 But I don't think it would be that different. Like, I think most years you get the same 12 teams. If you had the human, like two human polls in a computer, a group of computer polls, if you did it just like the BCS, the 12 teams you get,
Starting point is 00:28:45 most years would be the same as if you had a 13-member committee picking it. Here's the spirit of the question, though. The question isn't, should we, reverting back to the system, the BCS system. I think the question is asking, would you be okay with taking humans hands
Starting point is 00:28:59 completely off the wheel and letting a computer do it by itself? No, I wouldn't. It's the same way I'm not real keen on going in a self-driving car. Because most of the time it's going to be fine, and it probably will be fine. But what if Skynet takes over and it decides it wants to kill me? You do need to be better prepared for the world of AI, if that's your viewpoint.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Because like we are. I know I do. We are 10 years away from like our hands being completely off of every wheel, not just our steering wheels. Yeah. Like it's already happening. Yeah. Find me Linda Hamilton.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Find me John Connor. Sign me up. It's all happening in real life. I'm going to fight the Terminators. I don't want to, I don't want to derail the, but like every single thing that those sci-fi movies have been predicting for 20 years is happening in real life right now.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Yeah, I'm going to fight the Terminers. Like I actually think that AI will be worse off because of. it oh i think we'll be highly efficient surely so i think we're all going to be way worse off as humans because of it will be dumber for sure i think our emotional connections um are going to vanish i think people are going to fall in love of computers i think uh social aspects and that jeff is why we're not going to let computers pick the playoff if we let the computers pick the playoffs it might not only pick the playoff it might murder us um you know but the question that you or the way you answered it's true though it's kind of like it probably arrives at the same thing that we already arrive at now we have more yeah the human element is the beautiful part of that is we can debate that you can't debate uh you know the only thing you would be able to debate with the computer is whether or not the formula is accurate or the formula it uses correct and most of us are too dumb to understand the human eye test is what makes like i mean i was kind of afraid of the expansion of the playoff because i didn't think we would get to argue as much
Starting point is 00:30:49 and I was, boy, was I wrong about that. We get to argue more, I think. Yes, exactly right. It's almost as if we look for things to argue about. Yeah. And I think that arguing is healthy. I think it's important. And I think that the arguing and, you know, listen, even like, I'm not, I don't feel like I'm important.
Starting point is 00:31:06 But when I get on the, the call and ask the committee chair, why, why did you do this, this and this? And why our colleagues got on the call. Like, I think that helps form the process. I think having to be accountable and having to answer to people. people and hearing our points of views seep into the room. And I think that like all of your questions that you ask that that impact the way that Andy and I view things and impact the way that the media responds to it, I think is all part of the process.
Starting point is 00:31:32 I don't know if that's too tinfoil hat Thursdayish for Thanksgiving. But I do think that, you know, I think that the fans outrage about certain things infiltrates media and media has a direct line to the people who are doing it. And when we ask questions through the phone, they're humans. I bet you those questions get re-asked in that room. I would agree with that. I would agree with that. So that's why.
Starting point is 00:31:57 I think the results would be the same, but I don't want computers to kill us. I actually think that computers are already too involved. I think predictive metrics this year are too involved. I think that they should be used and I think they're important and they give context. I think that emphasizing them as a mistake. And they might kill us. Okay, let's go to Finn's question. I believe Ari agreed to a punishment if South Carolina went 0 and 5 in a stretch of games from LSU to Texas A&M.
Starting point is 00:32:22 This occurred, and I would love to see it happen. Ari, let's play the clip. Fine, if they go 5 and 0, you can do it. Let's see the schedule again. Show the schedule. At LSU, home against Oklahoma, home against Alabama. at Ole Miss, at Texas A&M, I'm not worried. South Carolina is just not, they're not, they're not going to do it.
Starting point is 00:32:54 But they're not a bad team. And they've got a really good quarterback with a high ceiling. I'm saying that you're making a bigger risk than you need to do. Because we're doing it. I'm telling you, we're doing it. And if it makes you feel any better, if South Carolina goes 0 and 5 against, them i will run with you following me at a uh for a distance um because i know you're wanting to find that's that's that's my three miles five miles five it's five games five miles five miles
Starting point is 00:33:28 five miles you can have a go pro and you can run behind me and call me names as i'm i'm i'm and i'll do my best right this seems fair this just to give you a little so you don't feel like you're alone in this because like honestly you're i think you were i think you were more at risk than i am yeah i am i don't think they go on five either but my stakes are lower though so that's that's the way gambling works so um yeah okay well we have a show we have a show i am really upset because i thought it was three miles it was but you walked into the five miles five miles five games so i was going to butt funnel a mcflurry if south carolina went five at o during this stretch and rie said well i'll just
Starting point is 00:34:12 I'll run a distance and you run alongside me and make fun of me if they go 0 and 5. They have gone 0 in 5. That Texas A&M game, we were not, you know, we were at that Georgia tailgate watching that. We should have realized what the stakes were that. You were not even thinking about that as we were watching the second half of that game. I would not have been rooting for a miraculous comeback because of how compelling that is if I knew what was at stake. So parameters here. Yep.
Starting point is 00:34:46 When is this happening? Oh, I don't know. It could be during the national championship, we go find a nice running trail in Florida. What's the weather in Florida in January, typically in South Florida? Perfect. But you're perfect and my perfect are different.
Starting point is 00:35:02 I want a number here. Are we in the 60s or the 70s? Probably in the 70s. Okay, because I won't do it in hot conditions under any circumstances. It will not be hot. All right. we'll do it in Florida. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:14 We're not doing it in Michigan this weekend. Yeah, I'm not doing it in extreme cold or the extreme heat. Yeah. And also, I have never run five miles in my entire life. I don't think I've ever ran an entire mile without stopping. I used to walk in gym class in high school. If I get tired, like I'm allowed to walk intermittently as I regain my breath, right? I mean, that's the funny part, yes.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Okay, but then while I'm walking, I'm ridiculed. Oh, 100%. Okay. So you'll take me, you know South Florida better than me. You'll take me to a nice trail or a nice beach front. Yeah, we'll find somewhere where there won't be too many snakes. And do you think I should just, do you think I should try to prepare for it? Or do you think I should just show up?
Starting point is 00:35:58 Oh, I think you should try to prepare for it. Yeah. I think I'm in marginal shape. Like, how hard do you think this is going to be? Well, that's the thing about running. Like, you make it as hard as you want. I know, but if I wanted to jog at a five rate on a treadmill nonstop. You mean five miles an hour?
Starting point is 00:36:20 Yeah, five minute mile. Yeah. You should be able to handle that. It's going to take me an hour of running if I never stop. Like, we're going to be out there for three hours. A 12 minute mile is very easy. I need to buy some running shoes, I guess. That would be a good start.
Starting point is 00:36:38 And then you'll carry my water while we're doing it. I carry water for you every day, Ari. Every day. And like you're sick because I know you're looking forward to it. Like that's the thing. Like I know you're excited about this. Of course.
Starting point is 00:36:52 I might even actually do a real workout afterward. Yeah. Okay. Well, I will probably be dead somewhere. So. All right. This last question is for Joe in Kansas City. The last time Joe wrote us the subject was
Starting point is 00:37:04 Damn it, Ari. This is Dammit Ari part two. Just when I think you can't be any dumber, you totally redeem yourself. Thank you for not picking the horns. This is Joe is a Texas fan. He's so glad that you pick Texas A&M in the Texas, Texas A&M game. And then he decided he wants to just make fun of the Aggies.
Starting point is 00:37:22 So here are some examples of Aggies being Aggies. They branded our steer, a bowl minus his plums, with a 13-0 score when they beat us. We turned it into Bevo and ultimately ate him for a fundraiser. Problem solved. Two, the Rice Owl Band made fun of the Aggies in their halftime show. The Corps of Cadets rioted
Starting point is 00:37:42 and held the Rice Band hostage in their locker room for hours until the band stuck out to the back in box trucks. Good job outnumbering the nerds 10 to 1 and still can't win. This happened.
Starting point is 00:37:51 I fact-checked this. Number three, a corridor pulled his sword on an SMU cheerleader for being on the field. Real tough guy. That also happened. This is like the,
Starting point is 00:38:01 I guess, the previous incarnation of the cop who was giving Nick Carber the business the other day. Number four, they gave Eric Dickerson a gold transam to play at A&M. He took the car to SMU. Oops.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Number five, they delayed the building. They delayed building the end zone seating structure because they couldn't figure out what to do with the dead mascots who were supposed to be able to see the scoreboard at all times. The previous revelies were buried there at Kyle Field. Their graves are supposed to be able to see the scoreboard at the time. This was a thing. This was like 25 years ago, 26 years ago, it was the late 90s. Remember they are dogs, they're dead, they're underground, you could move them. This is a multimillion dollar revenue stream.
Starting point is 00:38:50 They saw the problem of putting scoreboard over the graves. Very ingenious. Number six, they decided that A&M doesn't mean anything because they don't want to be an agricultural mechanical school. I don't think it works that way. That's not exactly how it worked, but yes, they did change the official name of the school to Texas A&M, and it's no longer Texas agricultural and mechanical. Number seven, they put upside down longhorn stickers on their cars with horn sawed off
Starting point is 00:39:14 as a sign of disrespect. We own the trademark, so make money on everyone's sold. Thank you. This one is not true, Joe, in Kansas City. I'm sorry to inform you. Don't believe that one because I did some research. The saw-em-off sticker with the upside-down horn. Saut Off going down is owned by Aggie Land Outfitters, which is a great store in
Starting point is 00:39:41 College Station. If you've ever been there, it's awesome. They've got cool Texas A& merchandise. They own the trademark. They were sued by Texas over it, but they altered it enough so that it wasn't exactly Vivo, and they end up owning the trademark. There are a lot of people who buy the official Longhorn bumper stickers and then put those upside down.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Okay. They are giving money to Texas, but if you buy the horn sawed off one with the horn. horns already saw it off, that is not giving money to Texas. You're getting money to Aggie Land Outfitters, which in turn endows a scholarship at Texas A&M. And OU fans do that too, though. Yes, they do. Yes. But yeah, I didn't know about the sword on the cheerleader thing.
Starting point is 00:40:24 And I also did not know. Yeah, I guess opposing cheerleaders were not allowed on the field at Kyle Field. Only the yell leaders were. Okay, so a sword got pulled. Sword got, yeah, can't have a girl cheerleers out here. Okay. I don't know if the girl or guy. Lastly, I've been trying to make this like my mission in the summertime.
Starting point is 00:40:47 The last few years of, you know, reading more history books about college football just to like have a better understanding of the way, like, things that happened. And I was unaware of the Trans Am thing. Like, I knew that it was squirly, but like, who bought the car and why was there no recourse to get it back? Like if I bought somebody a car What are you going to You're going to pull a gun on him? What are you going to do? I don't know
Starting point is 00:41:11 They were breaking the rules by giving it to him Okay Do you call the cop Like this is this is like the old Do you don't call the cops and say somebody stole your pot Now I guess you could now If you're in Denver or somewhere where it's legal But
Starting point is 00:41:26 Yeah Yeah I guess if you buy the car in cash and like gift it to them It's different than like having a lease or something Correct That's wild the halcyon days of cheating in the southwest conference it's a beautiful thing and i picked against the horns this week so maybe i cursed a and m i don't know uh it's
Starting point is 00:41:47 thanksgiving day i did write a column about how a and m needs to win so i'm going to shamelessly promote that if you are somebody who got into a political discussion at the dinner table and need a break go read the story it's going to be great uh Andy i hope that everybody here has a wonderful thanksgiving i hope you do too and i cannot wait to see you in detroit on Friday. That's right. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody. Travel safe. Enjoy this weekend. We will talk to you from Detroit on Black Friday tomorrow afternoon. Get ready. This weekend is going to be bananas.
