Welcome to an instant reaction edition of Andy and Orion 3 presented by Polly Market.
And we just watched Oklahoma walk off Texas, Tate Sandell with the field goal as time expired.
The most improb-like, it's a rivalry game.
Weird things happen.
We're always supposed to say that this was not supposed to happen.
Nothing makes sense, dude.
Nothing.
Nothing makes sense.
That was incredible.
You know, it was making this comment earlier.
but, you know, Texas minus seven and a half on Polly Market before the game, Andy,
seemed to be like the layup that everybody agreed upon.
Like Oklahoma's offense can't get a first down.
You know, Texas's offense might be limited at times, but certainly good enough to score in
between 24 and 30.
They'll win the game at worst 24 to 14.
And for most of the game, Andy, it kind of looked like that, right?
You know, I mean, Texas was winning by, you know, a winnable margin, and Oklahoma couldn't
get a first down and then college football happened.
I mean, I don't know how else to explain it.
You know, we spend all this time talking to people who are experts,
who break down film and we watch the games.
We understand, you know, a lot.
But then you watch a game like this and it's like,
does anybody know anything about anything?
Like, you don't know.
Like, that's insane.
Well, Arch could have not thrown two giant terrible picks.
I'm already out of breath.
I mean, that was like, yeah.
So for those who don't know, if Arch does not make it to New York,
as a Heisman finalist.
One Ari Wasserman has to run five miles down the Vegas strip
when we're there for the national title game.
Ari, uh,
lace up your running shoes.
You are running.
That archmanning is never going to do.
I can't recall if we talked about this on the air or if we talked about it off the air.
But I was bargaining with you off the air about if I cop out to it now,
can I buy the mileage down?
Yeah,
and now since we never talked about it,
you're probably not going to agree to it because I just lost.
Well, no, we talked about it.
I wasn't going to agree to it because I know he's not going to make it.
And I know he was certainly not.
not now. I mean, I honestly, I don't know if this is the time to discuss it,
but I don't know if there's anything he could even do at this point.
I mean, I guess outside of throwing 400 yards for every game for the rest of the year.
He had a nice answer after the pick six, but it doesn't matter.
Well, he didn't get to answer the last one, which lost him the game.
Exactly.
You know, I think that, you know, this is a really interesting discussion on both sides,
Andy, because one is Texas, first of all.
You know, we had already noticed that Texas's offense wasn't necessarily.
necessarily lighting the world on fire when they played at Tennessee.
Right.
You know, I wrote a column 14 days ago about whether Sark should be calling plays and all
these different things, just theorizing about why Texas isn't getting the results in
relation to what they have on the roster.
And the theory was it's Sark.
He's got too much on his plate.
Coaches, you know, haven't won a championship who are offensive coordinators at the same
time calling plays since Jimbo Fisher did it at Florida State in 2013, blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah. But like, what if the answer is just Arch isn't good enough? That could be the answer.
Like, I know that I have been the leading cheerleader of like, it's impossible for him not to at least
be productive with that offensive backfield, with the improved offensive line, with those
receivers that they have on that team, even if he was mid, like everyone likes to say mid, that the
amount of talent around him would at least elevate his production to.
a place that would fool people into voting for him to be a Heisman finalist.
Yes. And that's, if you go back and watch when I made that bet, that was kind of what I said.
So they're not getting anywhere near that. And now he's throwing picks with the game on the line,
multiple picks with the game on the line. Yep. So what is your prognosis, Dr. Andy, for what the
hell we just watched there? Is that an arch problem? Because, like, you know, we don't like to narrow it down
on one player. But is Arch Manning good enough for Texas to win the national title is the first time we're
asking it on the show, it has to be asked.
It's an appropriate time to ask it after that.
Not playing like that.
Yeah.
If he plays like that, they have no chance.
If he plays like that, they won't even make the playoff.
Yeah.
Because they're not supposed to lose this game.
They have hard games coming up.
Yeah.
So if he's going to play like that, they will not be able to win the national title.
The most important sequence in this game, Ari, was a very red river rivalry kind of sequence.
It was early in the, well, late in the third quarter, going into the fourth quarter,
you have the fight on the sideline.
You have the stupidest trick play ever with Isaiah Cetania throwing a meatball sub that got intercepted.
But he did get creamed.
It was roughing the passer.
And that saved Oklahoma.
And Oklahoma is up scoring on that drive.
And they tie it at 17.
And that is the reason they end up winning this game.
That was an incredible only in the Red River rivalry kind of sequence.
And like you could hear it as because you know the fans are half and half.
The Oklahoma fans were so loud.
Yeah.
So loud.
And it's handed to those people too because they've been beaten up.
And I know that our friend Eddie Radasovic at Sooner Scoop has tried to lighten the mood a little bit.
He went to the mistress.
There wasn't to light in the mood.
That was to win the game.
So he went to the mistress, which is an adult bookstore that is on the way.
I guess it's kind of on the Texas Oklahoma border.
Apparently it used to be called something else.
and Oklahoma has been non-competitive in this game since it changed his name to the mistress.
So Eddie left a natty-dady, tall boy and a lit Newport as a sacrifice on Friday,
and it apparently worked.
And it all started because Oklahoma Twitter was hilarious,
but Oklahoma Twitter, somebody pointed it out,
and he, of course, being the great reporter that he is,
went to the scene of where it was.
He thought the Oklahoma offense was somewhere in the back there.
They got escorted out.
everybody. Eddie Radosovich won the game for you. But they honestly, if you take humor outside of it or the
sacrifice that needed to occur in order to get here, it's been a really rough season for Oklahoma.
Yeah. And I know that this game certainly changes the mood. Obviously, it changes the mood on how you feel about Brent Venables.
But also, Oklahoma scored on a punt block and a pick six. So like it's not like their offense didn't even do anything.
They didn't do anything.
Now, they get credit at the end.
They did.
The one sequence I just talked about was the offense score.
And guess what?
The touchdown was a handoff to a running back.
And they also,
they also did when Arch through the second pick late in the game,
moved into field goal range with really good past catch,
back shoulder throws to put them in a position for Sandel.
Yeah, Isaiah Satania on the last possession.
First of all, the official who said it was incomplete when Isaiah Satania got two feet in,
Like, that, if we didn't have instant replay, that would have screwed up the whole whole game.
Yeah.
So people, I don't even remember how people even watched football before we had instant replay.
And I'm happy that we do.
But like now, what, what do you think about how Oklahoma views things?
So Oklahoma has two losses.
They could conceivably still make the playoff.
They're not going to.
Producer River, please post their schedule.
So Oklahoma still has to play Kentucky, Mississippi State, South, the, suddenly a wagon South Carolina.
suddenly the slump buster Florida and then Ole Miss Texas A&M, which has, we'll get into that on the night show.
And then at Missouri, Oklahoma is not running the table with this schedule.
No.
I feel very confident saying that.
But also, two years ago when we covered this game together, when Oklahoma got blown off the field, someone asked Brent Venables,
obviously you guys measure yourself against how your rival's doing.
This is how fans view it.
do you think you're anywhere near
the question was do you think you're anywhere near Texas
and he said he had a terrible answer for it.
I can't even recall what it was at this point.
If Texas is a measuring stick for the program,
this is the one thing that he hasn't been able to do so far.
Yeah.
This is his first win against Texas, right?
He didn't even in 23rd.
Yeah.
Okay.
His first win against Texas in the last few years.
Does this buy back goodwill?
I mean, I'm just trying to.
Yes.
It absolutely buys that goodwill.
Yes.
Right.
100%.
Remember, Brent Menibles, the majority of Oklahoma fans are that George Stoy did the survey,
13,000 people responded.
62.2% said they did not want to move on from Brent Medibles.
That number is going to be higher now because he just beat Texas.
But I think this is also so infuriating in a funny way because sometimes, like last year,
when you lead your team to the playoff, there were times last year where people were done
with him in the middle of the year.
Of course.
And then he bounces back.
Hard to kill.
People.
He is the embodiment of that, right?
So, you know, it was a, I mean, this is a win that Oklahoma absolutely needed.
Again, one of their two losses is to Michigan out of conference.
I guess if like their offense looked even remotely good at times, you could buy back
into the notion that they could make a run for it in the SEC.
I don't think that either of us are buying it because their offense did not like the scoreboard
on fire, but I do think that their offense.
And John Mateer, who has been piled on for much of the past three weeks,
did not.
Was not the guy turning the ball over.
That was arch.
Yeah.
The one that threw the ball backwards on accident and scored out of his hands against Georgia was the one who protected the football and put them in position to win the game.
So Sailor Joe, Sark needs an OC.
You won't change my mind.
Arch is never going to get better.
I told you all they're in the Ohio State game.
Oklahoma Sooners, you deserve your moment.
Sailor Joe is a Texas fan.
A very frustrated Texas fan.
But, yeah, it's, I don't know what else to say that right now you're going to feel that way.
and we didn't we weren't particularly enamored of sarks play calling tonight where we didn't
didn't look right i didn't see anything that made me feel any different about it now is that
the quarterback though that's the question i don't know what i don't know what so when i shared that
column that i wrote on the inside texas message board i got a bunch of pushback from it okay
because there are a bunch of of fans it's like listen sark's calling card when he got the job
was that he was a X's and O's offensive guru at MAMA and helped them win the game.
Play calling genius, yes.
So when I use the statistics that I love to keep saying,
which is no head coach who calls offensive plays has won the national championships in 2013,
the pushback to that discussion was, well,
all the coaches who won the championship between now and then were like Kirby Smart and Nick Sabin,
and there aren't a lot of coaches that weren't just the greatest coaches in Davos-Sweeney.
You know, like there's no, that's not a,
good stat because there's no baseline outside of the greatest coaches in the game from winning it.
So I don't know.
And the one thing I do know is that when Ohio State, when Ryan Day gave it up, they won the national championship the first year he gave it up.
I don't know if that means anything.
I don't know if there's correlations between the two.
But, you know, with the way that Arch played down the stretch, I don't think that I would, my takeaway from the game is that Arch, or that Sark's play calling lost it.
I think Arch made two terrible decisions down the stretch that cost them the game.
Isn't that what I mean, that's a fair thing to say.
I know that he's.
We had it.
We had our first Diabel needs to say.
Yeah.
So.
Everybody moves on quick.
Diabelle, by the way, the son of former NBA Rajav.
Well, I will tell you.
And again, this is in the 10 minutes after the loss literally just happened.
But if Arch is on tape, not good enough.
And I have, you know, Arch has been very polarizing.
Some people think he's going to be great, but there's a lot of people in the personnel
world, Andy, that don't think he's going to be great.
My phone is blowing up right now.
The NFL people, like, none of, I've never heard from an actual scout.
He's going to be spectacular.
I've heard from NFL draft Nick, like mock draft writers.
They're like, oh, Archard no more.
No, he's not.
And we have made a mistake in the recent past with quarterback draft stock.
You know who I've been talking about?
Shadour Sanders.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
People thought was going to be a first round pick the entire season.
Then he fell to the fifth round.
So I don't know.
And listen, but that's not even what I'm.
I was going to say. You have personnel people in my text right now saying, told you so, told you so.
And these are like scouts. And I don't know, you know, what the circumstances are with some of the
recruitment and things. I talked to one today in the press box. I haven't studied him yet.
Yeah. That's what he said. I don't know. Don't, don't wrote me into this. But I'm assuming that
when you heard all the talks this off season coming into the year that he might come back next year,
you also have to come to the conclusion that he potentially might want to return to Texas.
And if Diabelle is awesome, you might be in an uncomfortable situation. Yeah, Texas, by the way,
has already been in the position where somebody could come back and they're like,
you can just go to the NFL or go somewhere else if you'd like.
And I don't know.
It's always seems to be more complicated with Arch because Arch is Arch.
He's a manning.
Like, so I know that it's not, it's probably easier to kick Quinn to the curb than it would be for him.
But I don't know.
The rules don't change, right?
I mean, if you're not good enough to play, you're not good enough to play.
The goal is to win the national title.
Yeah.
Like you're a Texas.
You're supposed to win the national title.
Anything else is failure.
So that is where it's at.
and we will continue to have this discussion.
And Stark's, you know, Sark is going to get those questions.
Like, how much you want to bet Sark gets his first,
are you sure Arch is the guy question in a press conference?
Either it's either in the postgame press conference that's happening right now
or it'll be in the Monday weekly press conference.
I don't want to bet anything.
I think it would be malpractice.
Now, I will say you and I personally witness Florida secondary today against South Carolina.
Arch is going to light them up.
He's going to play well.
Because he's a quarterback who's playing against them.
So, yeah.
The, I just want to say that I'm done making declarative statements in the first month of season from now on.
I'm never doing it again.
But it is really an interesting thing.
He's just mad because my wife said today, like we got back from the game and wife.
He goes, you totally, Florida was back.
Does your wife watch the show?
She's never seen the show.
I was making nice small talk with her.
I don't know what I was.
She's never seen the show.
I wasn't trying to lie at her.
I just like she's wearing.
an outfit and came and saw you.
And I was like, I'm saying, like,
Florida's this is a great atmosphere.
I wasn't trying to make a declarative statement
that they're going to the playoff or something.
And I feel like I personally offended her.
No.
But I did say they were back on the show.
So it's not like that's a unique thing.
They're back to booing their own offense.
Congratulations, Texas, your offense will look fine next week.
Yeah.
I promise you that.
But it's not about looking fine next week.
It's about looking fine in January,
which was the topic of the column that I wrote even before they lost.
So like, that's the thing.
Texas has came into this year.
and, you know, I had a really rough day with believe in coaches who haven't won yet
because Dan Lannning also lost the UCLA, which we'll talk about on tonight's show.
But it's just a, like, when do you start having Sark conversations?
Again, one loss in this season doesn't mean anything yet.
You start with art.
I went to the-
No, I was trying to put this comment on the screen and just dragged my finger the wrong direction.
I'm sorry, Zachary Williams.
Texas is a bad team that Ohio State made look better than they are with a historic one-quarter collapse.
They're lazy and poorly coached by and raw talent that formula was sometimes by you.
They're not a bad team.
They're still better than most teams.
They're still possibly not a national title type team.
We'll see about that.
Now, we got the Ohio State win in their pocket, which helps.
We came into this season, Andy, saying this is the year for Sark.
You know, last year was a mulligan.
They didn't make the playoff.
They lost Ohio State in the non-conference.
They lost three times.
But with this investment, this team, this quarterback, these running backs, Cam Coleman, that defense.
I mean, you could make the case that they have one of the four best receivers in college football on offense and the single best defender on defense.
Yes.
That if they don't break through this year.
And I don't know if that means national championship or bust.
I hate that because it's really hard to win a championship.
But if they miss the playoff or get bounced in the first round and it looks a lot like it.
it's already looked, then I would be willing to have a discussion of whether they're going to
to do that or whether they have a conversation about Sark.
Well, we'll have a lot of Texas conversations this week, I assure you, because they're now
really interesting.
They're going to have a play team that we'll have more conversations about Florida, which
interesting in a kind of morbid way right now.
We will talk tonight.
After the Alabama Georgia game, we're talking about Alabama Jordan.
We've got to talk about Oregon losing to you.
UCLA or UCLA beating Oregon however you want to phrase that we got a lot this was a crazy crazy
window uh Tennessee barely escaped Arkansas that was the best window of the entire college Illinois
stuff's the Philly special from Michigan State you know how crazy on the two on the two-way
version and overtime Red River game had to be to put the UCLA Oregon game in the bottom corner of
the four box on the TV on the floor yeah I mean think about the window we just had so we have
a big show tonight, and I can't wait to get into it with you guys.
It is going to be incredible.
We will talk to you after the Alabama Georgia game.
