Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to an instant reaction edition of Andy and Ari on 3 presented by Polymarket. How instant the game isn't even over yet. But Ari, we're here at the swamp and it's over. Like South Carolina is crushing Florida. This is an absolute domination by the gamecocks. Never a good sign for emergency shows when the scorebug at the bottom of the feed here is ongoing. Yes. So not a great sign.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Secondary, not so good. in playing calling before half, not so good. But I think the biggest takeaway here, not so much about the individual things that happened in this game was that this is the second weekend in a row. This has happened to Florida after what looked at least like a really promising year. Yeah, and the thing is like the offense just does not look the same as it did the first couple of games.
Starting point is 00:00:46 I mean, they look different against Auburn and Ole Miss. Now, perhaps they're more injured than we realize. Brunel Brown the 3rd, we said after he got hurt in the Ole Miss game, we might not see him again for a few weeks. Very different without him. The line, we set all off season. We didn't know if those guys would be able to hold up and how deep they would be if guys got banged up.
Starting point is 00:01:08 And so the line doesn't look great. Poor Mecca Gorgie, the right tackle. So he's a Stanford transfer. He was 17 last year when he's playing as a freshman for Stanford. He's 18 now. He had to play Dylan Stewart today. Yes. He plays Colin Simmons next week.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Probably a pissed off Dylan Stewart, given the situation. Oh, very pissed off Dylan Stewart. He had a good game. He was dominating. He was getting pressure on Aaron. Philo he forced a fumble on Aaron Philo there in the fourth quarter then when it looked like Florida might have a chance to get back in the game he popped the ball loose from Aaron Phil. So this was a day where South Carolina's aliens and the South Carolina fans, you've been waiting
Starting point is 00:01:44 for this and I this will we dealt with this with Florida State last week. You've been waiting for your aliens to show why they're aliens. You got two Nick Harbor touchdown catches. You got Dylan Stewart looking amazing. you got Lenora Sellers with the Houdini escape that set up a touchdown. You got all of that today. So you got everything you've expected to see for the last two seasons that you haven't gotten and you snap this eight-game SEC losing street.
Starting point is 00:02:11 But unfortunately, that just makes you one and three in the SEC. Yeah, you know, I think it's kind of an interesting dynamic because I was telling you in the press box during the game that it almost felt Florida Statey in the sense that, you know, that things with the head coach are dire, things aren't going well. You feel like there's a potential change coming. at the coaching position of things going keep going the same way in the in the coming days or even weeks and then you come out and you play maybe the best most complete game you've played now I don't know if
Starting point is 00:02:36 they play like this yeah he beat most of the other teams in their schedule it's like the thing about this though is I'm sure you probably couldn't find a better collection of three athletes that south carolina's had and without going back to the steve spurrier era at the same time right and for whatever reason when you say steve spurier in this building yeah yeah sorry yeah yeah the Steve Spurrier era at South Carolina, Andy, and they've never been able to put it together, or at least consistently. You see flashes in every game,
Starting point is 00:03:02 which is what makes it frustrating. But, you know, this was supposed to be a fairly easy Florida win, a bounce-back win from what happened in Missouri last week, and the aliens actually took over for once. Absolutely. And the thing, too, is that they all did it in the same game. Yes. Which hasn't always been the case either.
Starting point is 00:03:17 I'm interested because, look, you had the very coordinated after the Kentucky game effort from South Carolina's Mississippi. to say, hey, we would not like to fire Shane Beamer. We would like to not have to pay shame demer $27 million to not work. That would not be our preference, which we know. We know you don't want to. You shouldn't have given the extension. I realize different AD, but really dumb extension. You didn't need to do it. And so now you're in this position, but he may bail you out. Is it possibly bails them out? Well, I don't know what was viewed as success this year. Like, let's not
Starting point is 00:03:52 forget last year two years ago South Carolina was in a CFP race and on Selection Sunday thought that they even had like a 1% chance of getting in which means that they were good all year. Last year they went into the season being a dark horse CFP contender. People were really excited about them and they completely flopped and now you get this win here in Gainesville
Starting point is 00:04:10 but they're already out of the SEC race it feels like you know and I don't know if that's too soon No I don't think six and three is going to get you So what are you getting back here? You're getting back a reminder of what went wrong which is this is what it should have looked like for, I think it's actually almost even more worse or dire because I don't know. If they keep winning, it's not. I guess if they keep winning, but that's the problem. He would have probably kept his job no matter what. But just like with Florida State, Andy,
Starting point is 00:04:32 when they beat the crap out of Virginia last weekend. It's not always about doing it once. I think that the frustrating part is that you can't count on that happening again. Well, the other thing is like, are they going to beat Georgia? That's a very different question. Yeah. Then are they going to beat Oklahoma and Texas A&M? Yeah. But I guess maybe if they beat Georgia and they have a good year, we can revisit this. But, you know, I think that the number one thing that's frustrating in South Carolina fans is that they know what's what the team is capable of, what the ceiling is. And, you know, you've seen glimpses of it at multiple times the last few years. Yeah. Even in bad seasons, you see glimpses of it, but the fact that it doesn't exist is the reason why he's on the hot seat.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Yeah. Well, like then playing Alabama tough last year. Yeah. Just like they did the year before. They show up in individual weeks all the time. They didn't play Alabama tough this year. And that's where every, that's real felt like the wheels fell off. And then they blow the lead against Kentucky. And when they took the lead here, because remember Florida jumps out, they score that first touchdown, but then South Carolina takes the lead. They take the lead in a half time. And you think, okay, this is, this is looking different. But you also thought coming into the second half, oh, how are they going to mess this up? How are they? And they didn't. They played even better in the second half than they did in the first. I made it was like,
Starting point is 00:05:41 not two touchdowns for Dick Harbour, one touch. One touchdown for Dick Harbour, but it was a pretty crazy one. It was a great one. It was an alien touchdown where he just snatched it away from It was an indefensible play. No matter what, if you could duplicate that, no one could cover what they did there. Yeah. So, yeah, I think that, you know, it's interesting because whenever coaches are on the hot seat, it always feels like it's a week-by-week referendum on their whole thing. And I actually think that much like with Florida State last night and, you know, South Carolina now,
Starting point is 00:06:07 it's just like we got to this position of hot seat because we've already revealed who you are, which is inconsistent. Right. You know, if they can be consistent later on in the season, it still might not be enough because they're They're not going to be in the race. They have an open date. And if they go beat Tennessee, then I do think this is not Mike Norville situation. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:25 This is maybe, okay, South Carolina fans in the chat, maybe you can tell me different if I'm wrong. But this doesn't feel like the Mike Norville situation where even when they beat Virginia, we asked, we asked Florida State fans to call in and they were all like, no, no, no, we want to get rid of him. And then he showed you why against Louisville last night. I feel like if Shane Beamer could go beat Tennessee after a week off. He can win them back.
Starting point is 00:06:47 at least or at least the hope. Like there still would be hope. Like Florida State has lost hope. I think there would still be some hope. But maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps the chat will tell me differently. Well, I also am completely confused and maybe rightfully so. Maybe you should be confused about this too.
Starting point is 00:07:06 But South Carolina traditionally has not been an SEC contender. Right. Two years ago, they were an SEC contender. Right. They were very good. Last year they were supposed to be and they didn't. But like what were, what are, what are what's a successful season for south carolina in 2026 if you would have asked them
Starting point is 00:07:21 i think it's got eight and four eight and four so that i mean i guess like if that's what you think is eight and four means you got to win everything else except georgia yeah which is a it's a tough or you've got to beat georgia and then you've lost yeah but they've already shown that they're able to compete um maybe not with alabama and maybe in a few hours and you will we'll see why who knows but kentucky is a pretty tough team tough out and they played a tough game against them. I know it was a heartbreaking loss. Mississippi State we think is good, too. So, you know, I guess
Starting point is 00:07:50 there is hope, and every time, if your expectations as a fan base is to go eight and four, Andy, anytime you win a game on the road in the SEC, you'd probably feel like a million bucks. Well, you didn't just win a game on the road. You kick somebody's ass on the road. Yeah. This is, South Carolina hasn't won in the swamp since 2014. That was the game that got Will Mustchamp fired, which
Starting point is 00:08:06 ironically made Will Must Champ available to be South Carolina's next head coach after Steve Sparrier step out. But this is, this is, a not a result we came here expecting to see. No. We figured if South Carolina won, it would be a tight game, and Florida would be making mistakes.
Starting point is 00:08:23 Florida just looks awful. Florida's secondary is bad. Florida, their offensive line is not getting it done. Perhaps they're more banged up than they were when they played Ole Miss in Auburn, but that doesn't matter. Everybody accumulates injuries as the season goes on. You've got to figure out a way to do it. So if you're John Summerall, the honeymoon is over.
Starting point is 00:08:41 They booed you at the end of the first. half when you were going to kneel it down, well, not kneel it down, but you're just going to run out the clock. And I'm curious if he actually changed his mind and set up, you know, went down the field to set up a field goal because they were booing the decision to not, but then they booed him again. There was a fourth down play where they got to the fourth and nine in their own territory. They still had to go for it at that point. It's the only way to get back in the game. What do you think the polymarket odds would have been after they won against Ole Miss two weeks ago,
Starting point is 00:09:10 that John Somerald, we booed in his own building two weeks later? you would have made a lot from a very little investment you you would invest it a dollar and made back about 20 yeah so i guess that's life in the SEC because it still seems premature to boo him but yeah well and and they were booing the play calling like that fourth down play Aaron philo and the receiver miscommunicated the receiver turned one way philoh through the other direction and it just rains down and there's also a difference between booing the person and booing the decision well right like yeah but that's the thing they're booing the situation more than anything else but But, yes, Florida is back, as you said two weeks ago,
Starting point is 00:09:46 too booing its own offense. Oh, man. The fans booing their own offense. That's what they're back to. Oh, by the way, they play Texas next week. Maybe the best defense in the country. They beat them last year. You got to score a point to win.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Who are you talking to with them or Texas? Yes. We'll find out. This is going to be a very weird week. I'm going downstairs. I got to hear what Shane Beamer has to say after this thing. We'll talk to you soon.
