Andy and Ari on three.
We're going to cleanse the palate today.
Basketball season's over.
It is back to hardcore college football talk.
We're going to have spring games this weekend.
We're going to get deep in the weeds.
Get ready.
So right now, this is just, you know, talk radio trick
that's worked for years and years.
And we're going to do it today, Ari.
We're just going to rank quarterbacks.
Like nothing gets people more riled up, pissed off, excited than ranking quarterbacks.
Yeah.
And it's a not an easy thing to do because you have to weigh what you think could happen versus what has
happened and what is more important to you. Well the other thing is that there
are guys that will be left off these lists who've not started a single game
yet because we we're not including we don't even know if they're gonna win the
job. Right. It was Dante Moore a picture of him. Yeah. We don't we don't know what
we all the Ohio State guys we don't know yet. He holds. Yep. Yeah. So I guess
that's like, I mean, River. I don't know if it's on purpose
or not, but just gave away two dudes that may or may not be on
our list, probably not on our list based on what you were
saying. So, but this is going to be an interesting discussion.
I think that you and I, the thing that is kind of cool about
this show is that like, I feel like you and I, the thing that is kind of cool about this show is that like I feel like you and I agree a lot.
And that's what makes the disagreements explosive. So, you know, that's going to even be represented on this list where you and I have a lot of similar thoughts and then we veer off, you know, in me, I think it makes the most sense to start at the top as you-
Yeah, we could have faked this and said,
this is my number one and this is my number two.
If you've been listening to the show,
if you've been watching this show,
you know that Ari and I have the same number one.
We've talked about this guy pretty much nonstop
since the end of last season.
We have very high expectations for this person. Like, knew when we said what this show is going to be
yesterday, that number one on both of our lists was going to be DJ Lagway from Florida. And that's who it is.
You know, and the thing too, is that you have to be consistent. Like I had, I wrote a breakout player list. He was, he was on that list. I wrote a preseason All-American projection
and he was the first team All-American.
Like you can't change your mind on a whim
based on no new information.
Now, is it mildly concerning that he's not a full
participant in Florida Spring Ball?
I'll admit to me that's, I don't know if it's a seven
out of 10, but it's probably a three out of 10, right?
In terms of you want him to be a full
participant in his first full offseason as the, you know, starter of that team. But at the same time, too, as Chris
Noring said on the show, he's gotten invaluable experience as a 6-game starter, or whatever it was, last year, and he
performed quite well. So I'm very confident, based on his physical traits, his ability, the fact that he lifted his team up
as a freshman.
Like that's the thing too.
It's like, oh, did you see that throw off of his back foot?
He threw an 80.
That's not the thing too.
It's like Florida's entire roster rallied around this guy
and was a completely different football team
just because he existed.
Like that matters.
So like I am very curious to see
and you and I have really kind of pushed our chips
to the middle of the table here
as it pertains to Florida's potential
to break out this year.
We're either gonna be like the smartest dudes in the world
or we're just gonna look stupid.
And we'll be able to roll with either one,
but you know, that's the way it is.
Here's Nick in the chat.
Damn, ganging up on a bad take.
So this is the thing with DJ. There're gonna be two groups. There's gonna be the group of people
that are like, Oh yeah, he's clearly far and away. Number one here. And the group is like,
what are you talking about? He had nine interceptions last year and he was only a
part time starter. This he's not there yet. And it's, it's basically the difference. Did you watch
the game or did you read the box score? There also you just read the box score you're like eh I
don't see it if you watched him play against LSU and against Ole Miss you're
like oh my god this guy's gonna win the Heisman and be the number one pick in
the NFL draft insensitive to ask whether or not we offer this podcast and Braille
because like that is you have to see it And I just like I feel like there are a lot of people who.
Are coming to conclusions based on not watching him.
I don't care what you have, but I don't care how great our job
to watch these things. All of our folks here. They don't have
time to watch everybody. Sometimes they're just watching
their favorite player or their favorite team.
So Andy, I don't care what his stats are.
You know, like, you know, I have another rule for life that I never mentioned and
I always forget and it just hit me.
So don't let me forget next time.
Stats are stupid.
I think he has good stats.
So he was number two in yards per attempt behind Jackson Dart in the
whole country last year.
So he got good stats too.
And it's great when the stats are good, but I'm saying I'm
not making a judgment on a true freshman who started six
games based on his statistical data.
You can tell.
That's the crazy part.
What did you say?
The stats were also off the charts.
Yeah.
But that's not the reason why we I think the stats are off
the charts are the reason why people are rolling their eyes
on like us thinking that he's good and that's not I'm telling
people that's not what goes into my mind.
What goes into my mind is a very firm belief that if somebody
is going to be elite nine times out of ten in college football,
you know it from the very second they step on the field. Yes, there are a little Kailin Williams against Texas. Yeah, his freshman
year. That's a great one. And the reason why I think stats are stupid is because I think
they're malleable to prove the point that you want to prove, depending on how you use
them. And I think it happens a lot in our society and multiple things aren't just football.
But like I think that if you watch.
Him play, there's only one conclusion that you can come to. The guy is special, he's unequivocally special, and it bothers me
that people are having.
Well, I take take take 12 minutes out of your day.
And watch the Florida Ole Miss
condensed game or the Florida LSU condensed game, and then come back and tell us
that you don't think he's very good
or that you don't think he's worth the hype.
And remember in the LSU game, he's playing on one leg.
So it's one of those things you either have eyes
or you don't on this one.
One thing I'm gonna say,
and I don't wanna put this out into the universe,
but I'm gonna have to because it's a podcast
it's my job there are certain players in college football who tend to get
injured a lot and there's no no this is legit go ahead with certain of people
who are durable a little bit nervous about his frequency of injury now this
is this is a legitimate concern. It is the biggest concern.
So he hurts his hamstring against Georgia. We talked about this Florida may win that game if he doesn't hurt his hamstring. That causes him to not play against Texas. They get shelled by Texas. Now they probably still lose if he starts, but.
But that's a concern right now. He's not throwing because of a nagging shoulder injury.
He's supposed to rest the shoulder for a period of months.
So he may not be throwing again until June.
I get it.
Freak accidents or things happen.
Like people get injured.
It's not like, you know, it says anything bad about you,
but like there are certain quarterbacks and you know who they
are who are just injured perpetually.
And it follows them into their NFL careers. And like I think like Tua Tango-Villal was a perfect example of that.
Ultra-talented guy, but hasn't been able to remain injury-free his entire career. And it's a shame.
And I don't know if there's just certain human bodies that are more...
Oh, it's 100%. That's exactly what it is. Being than others.
But the thing that's so sad about this,
and I'm not putting this evil on him,
but sometimes it happens to the people
who are most physically gifted,
which is kind of like,
like, what is it?
Two sides of the same coin.
Yes.
You can do freakish things,
but like, can you imagine like,
Cam Newton. It's sort of like the high performance cars that are sort of right? They can be temperamental. I'll put that even on me now. Right. So it's the same. It's the same concept is you have this thing that is designed to do things that nobody else can do. But because of that, it's a little more fragile than than
other things. So that'll be the that'll be the one that you keep
an eye on. Because if you get into July, and he's not
throwing, yeah, worry, like that. That's the reason to worry.
And that's the reason to, you know, you could knock him down
the list at that point. But right now, if all goes according
to plan, and he gets most of the summer throwing with his
teammates, and he comes in and has a full camp, I think I think
it's a very potentially exciting season for Florida. Now, I think
we have the same number two. And I don't have this one got this
guy very far behind. DJ Lagway. I think this is pretty close.
Yeah, I got Lenora Sellers from South Carolina, number two.
And I do too, right?
I believe so.
It's your list.
You would know it better than me.
Yeah, I have to, well, you know what, man?
I don't know about you.
I don't have like a beautiful mind
where I have like a photographic memory
of like every single thing
that I've ever seen in my life like you.
Or you did it yesterday.
You made the list yesterday.
I don't have the ability like to count things in my head and remember them. I did do this yesterday. This is a weakness for me. I have a terrible recall. But now that I see it, I can remember, I think, hopefully, who three and four are and it'll refresh my memory. So here's the thing with Lenora Sellers, and
we have to acknowledge this. In our love affair with DJ Lagway, we have unintentionally not
given Lenora Sellers his due as a player. And I think that if you don't listen to our
show every day and know that our hearts are in the right place, you might think that we
don't think Lenora Sellers is elite. And I wanted to set the record straight for both
of us that that's not the case. Now, I'm willing to sit here and even say that it's not even
remotely shocking or even surprising if Lenora Sellers turns out to have a better career. In fact, I think it's quite amusing and interesting that
despite the fact that there are a bunch of really good newcomer SEC
quarterbacks, a few others who are on this list, that there seems to be a
direct face-to-face comparison between Lagway and Sellers and I think it's
because they're both in similar positions and I wish they played because
South Carolina and Florida used to play every year and they're not on the schedule.
But I think that this is a nice olive branch to people who have been displeased with our
lack of hype on on Lenora sellers game as like a reassurance of like, Hey guys, like
we're with you, like we know he's good, you know, and he, he had a lot of, of great moments
and I think South Carolina makes the playoff if he doesn't get injured
in the game. Which game was that? Was that the LSU game? Oh,
yeah, yeah. We were at Wisconsin that day, right? I remember
watching it while we were walking back in the car on my
phone. But yes, so all the respect in the world for him.
And I think that we're both also drinking Lenora Sellers Kool-Aid.
We just like the flavor of Lagway a little bit better.
Yeah, I'm very excited to see this
because I think Lenora Sellers raises,
it's similar to the DJ Lagway conversation.
Like Lenora Sellers by merely existing
raises South Carolina's ceiling.
He raises everyone else on the team.
He makes them all better.
I think DJ Lagway may have a little bit better supporting cast right now,
and it's up to South Carolina's receiver group to prove me wrong on that.
Like, yeah, I want Nick Harbor to become the Nick Harbor of the video game.
I think we get that.
We see even more from Lenora Sellers.
Because I think he was doing it a lot on his own last year
is what it felt like.
Now they had a freshman receiver last year
who was pretty good, Mazio Bennett.
I think he gets better.
You get a little more out of him.
I'm just, I'm excited for what Lenora Sellers can be.
And I hope he can stay healthy as well,
because I feel like that, you know,
they lose to Ole Miss and it wasn't really close,
but Lenora Sellers was hurt.
And I think there was a lot to do with that too.
So, I'm really hopeful that we get fully,
you know, fully healthy, way and seller seasons here.
Yes, I think it could be so special and also too like.
You know this is the thing that is so interesting about the
SEC in general.
Um, you know I would say and I don't know if you think it's
a fair.
Thing to say Chris Doring had had an issue with it, but did the sec have a down year
last year in your opinion?
The top of the sec did it.
It didn't have the, the usual couple elite teams that it normally does or,
or three or four elite teams.
The middle of the sec was better than it usually is.
And I think both those things kind of feed off each other. I think that the middle appeared better than they've been in the past because of the SEC was better than it usually is. And I think both those things kind of feed off each other.
I think that the middle appeared better
than they've been in the past because the top was bad.
Now I think the middle was very talented.
And I think the thing is the middle of the SEC can afford,
like remember the middle of the SEC is still rich.
So the middle of the SEC can afford really good players
out of the transfer portal.
But think about the brands in the SEC. If you leave that
graphic upriver for my reference, not for the visual aid. How many big time programs are relying on new quarterbacks or
quarterbacks at important parts of their development? Texas new quarterback, Bama new quarterback, Georgia new quarterback, Auburn new quarterback, Florida fairly new
quarterback, South Carolina young, not so new quarterback,
but somebody who's still in the beginning parts of their
development. Same goes for Tennessee, A&M.
Yeah, but you can't say that. Like, there are sellers in
Nico Imaliava, like they have good years. They're going to
the NFL this year. So it's not.
No, I know, but they're not new.
But if these players, some of whom appear on my list and some don't appear on yours and some vice
versa have great years, the SEC could have a resurgence in a way that the elite is awesome
still and the middle is awesome still. Like there's a lot of like, like John Matier is on my list. I
don't want to like get into that. We're going to get to that. But like, Oh, you was a nothing burger last year.
Oh, you could be a playoff team this year.
Like I think, I think the quarterback obviously
is that important.
Then you have six or seven teams in the SEC this year
who are breaking in or relying on quarterbacks
at pivotal parts of their development.
That could be the difference between the SEC
having another down year and being completely dominant again. Like this is a huge quarterback here for the SEC.
No question, right? And Lenore, so it is like way or getting all the discussion.
We've talked 10 times more about lag way than we have about John Matier.
And like you could make the case that John Matier is the most important
individual transfer in the entire conference. It may be the most important
job here in DJ Lagway. Both both could either have a good year and save somebody's job or have a bad year and lose somebody a job.
Yeah.
And that's the crazy part.
Like the thing too, and I think maybe even hurt us a little bit in our first year back together, but like the star power and the lack of it last year was pretty palpable to me.
Like I don't think that the college football, I think that's how Travis Hunter won the Heisman. Now he deserved it. He should have won it another year.
Right. But if there had been a star quarterback.
There was no star quarterback to really oppose him. And it's like, how does the sport, the sport's always going to be what it's going to be. People love it. We're going to talk about it. It's great. It's the best thing. It's my favorite thing in the entire world. God, it's so much better when you have big time quarterbacks.
It is so much better and you have 10 that are on the screen right here on
the Heisman odds that could really, really do something.
So I'm excited and Lenora Sellers,
although we've maybe spoken a little bit less about him than we should have.
I wanted to take a little bit extra time today to gush about him because I think
he deserves that that praise as well. He's he's he's the the most dangerous running threat at quarterback
of any of the people we're going to talk about. But he has an incredible arm. He like lagway,
he can he can rocket a ball into a tight window or he can put some touch on it. Like I think
that's that's the thing I like about these guys
that we haven't seen as much.
We have really, Trevor Lawrence was good at it.
We haven't seen it a lot in college football
where you have the QBs who can really power a ball
across the field and also flutter one in there.
Cam Ward was good at that.
Now Cam Ward has a little bit unorthodox
throwing motion, but.
Graded improv.
Like Lenore Sellers and DJ Lagway
are very good improv guys very much
like Cam Ward was a very good improv guy.
Yeah, yeah, so.
Top of the list, super exciting,
very excited to see their head to head
battle, but also excited to see what they can do for their teams.
And the rest of the list is also very exciting if you want to get to it now.
Well, before we do that, let's tell everybody about what we're doing. We are presented by Culver's.
And we are headed to Green Bay at the end of this month for the draft.
To be with Culver's, We're gonna be set up right outside
the frozen Tundra Lambeau field.
And the Culver's great Wisconsin tailgate,
born in Wisconsin Culver's is the home
of the legendary Butterburger fresh frozen custard
and Wisconsin cheese curds.
No better representation of America's dairy land than that.
But of course Culver's is bringing that
to the rest of the country. I live in Florida. There's a Culver's is bringing that to the rest of the country.
I live in Florida. There's a Culver's right down the street for me,
the frozen custard. Oh my God. It is so spectacular.
I've never had the frozen custard and I, uh,
I'm going to change that in a few weeks. I had one about two weeks ago,
a cookies and cream. You will, you will see.
And you know, I'm not a sweets guy, but the right ones, you know, they get me.
Oh yeah.
Like I will say this right now,
and I know that we have certain products
that I'm sure Culver's wants us to emphasize.
Very, very good fish sandwich.
Very good fried fish sandwich.
And you're an aficionado.
Yes.
There are very few people who know more
about fast food fish sandwiches than you. I would venture to say zero people on earth like I know more about because I've tried them all
And seek them out. So very very good
Culver's has an expansive menu and the thing that I love about Culver's is places that have big menus
It's hard to kind of have great products across the board like Culver's has an expansive menu and everything is delicious
Like it's amazing.
I'm so excited to be partner with these guys.
Oh yeah.
Well, and so I don't want to give away too much
about what's going on in the draft,
but we're basically to have like a Culver's restaurant
around our set.
Oh God.
Across the street from Lambeau Field.
It's going to be incredible.
Yeah, this is super exciting.
And I haven't had everything on their menu
because there's not as many of them as other fast food chains
and it's not as easy to go to as often.
But every single time I've gotten a meal there,
I've been blown away by how good.
The good news is they are they are expanding quickly.
So if there isn't one near you, it's probably going to be near you soon.
Like where I live, they are coming in hot and heavy right now.
We've seen we've had one in my town for five or six years.
And now there's there's two or three opening within 30 miles.
So the only we've done a lot of fast food drafts in our day.
Before the sponsorships covers was
represented on both of our lists every time.
Yes, yes, so I'm telling you,
frozen custard butter burgers.
Can't beat it. Alright,
let's get back to the list so we start
to disagree here at number three.
I think we both feel like our guy that
the guy each of the guys we have at number three. I think we both feel like our guy,
each of the guys we have at number three, we both like,
because we have the other guy at four.
But I go K Clubnik from Clemson,
you've got Arch Manning from Texas.
Who do we wanna start with?
It's the same conversation.
Oh, mine's in the, it's the same.
Okay, you've got Kade at five, so.
Aids five, so why don't we start with Arch and then we'll you know what?
No, start with Kate and then we'll and then I'll tell you why he's OK.
That way we can keep going symmetrically.
If you saw our interview with Dabo Sweeney a few weeks ago, he said something that I
found really interesting because I asked him, I said, I know you guys knew Kate Clubnick
was fast that he was a fast
runner. You recruited the guy. When did you realize he was this good of a runner on the
football field? And the way Dabo put it, it sounds like they realized it earlier than
K did himself and had to kind of build Kade's confidence as a runner over the first few years of his career.
But you saw last year in full bloom, like, Kate Klubnick is a dangerous runner on top of having
a really good arm. Now the really good arm part was somewhat nullified by Clemson not having
particularly dynamic receivers early in his career. They have dynamic receivers now.
I think Kate Klubnick is going to be one of the best players in college career. They have dynamic receivers now.
I think Kate Clubnick is going to be one of the best
players in college football.
I think Clemson is going to win a lot of games.
I think there's a chance Kate Clubnick is a Heisman
finalist this year.
Everybody on this list.
In your list is there's a chance for that.
Of course, yes, I think that.
Cade Clubnick is a very, very good quarterback.
I am just not 100% of the way there of he's the face of our sport. Like, I don't know,
there's just something, maybe it's just because he wasn't excellent or stars, star, like, or
of a star right out of the gate. And maybe I'm just having a hard time catching up.
But you know I have him in the top five which means I have a ton of respect for him and what I expect from Clemson this year.
This is the first time in I think what four years that I've actually thought that Clemson might be good enough to win the national title in August
or April or whatever offseason month you want to choose. I'm high on him. I don't know if I am on board with.
Face melting off while watching him yet.
I'm telling you. Clumsens problem last year was defense.
Yeah, so he was snapping on 80 yard run, so like I mean he's
fast. Yeah, I I'm I'm excited to see what he does, especially as
those young receivers develop too.
I think there's a chance that we look back and because it's interesting with Clemson.
Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence were so good right off the rip that I think we got in our heads that a Clemson quarterback can't be great unless he comes in as a freshman and just dominates.
And obviously DJ U had the one good game as a freshman, but then wasn't very good after that.
Cade came in and was okay. He was pretty good, but he wasn't light the world on fire good,
but he's gotten steadily better. And I think it's something to remember like,
yeah, DJ Lagway came in and was good right away.
But sometimes these guys have to develop.
And I think we've seen Kate Klubnick develop over the years.
Yeah, I see it like there's people in the chat here that say this list is awful.
That's fine.
And that's great.
Their lists are awful too.
The thing that's insane to me is that I don't know how you could be a fan of the sport or follow the sport in any regard and have anybody different in your top five.
Like I would think that they.
Well, but, but Ari, you're not thinking about it like a fan.
And this is, I think we got to do better about this because you and I are not good about
this.
Yeah.
Like they're going to be so many people so mad that you got Nico number 10 and I don't
have Nico on my list because they're
Tennessee fans. They don't care that objectively DJ Lagway is
better or that if you ask 32 NFL GMs, all 32 will tell you DJ
Lagway is better. They don't care. They're Tennessee. They
want their guy on the list. Yeah. So I do. I know I just like but I feel like objectively
speaking one through five on both of ours, which are
identical are the one through five like I don't know where
else you go with this. So, um, okay, now we'll go to my
number three. Yeah, let's go to Arch because Arch is the
most interesting player I think on both of our lists because
he has the least starting experience of anybody that
we're talking about here.
Yes.
I've been on record.
Buying. Arch stock for a long time, OK?
You saw what Quinn yours was able to do in a similarly
situated offense.
And I know that Xavier Worthy and A.D. Mitchell are not on the team anymore.
Texas is too damn good for this guy to fail.
Okay. So the question I have for you is, you, Andy, and you the listener,
is even if he is 10% better.
Then when you were was with that supporting cast, he will probably just default no matter what as a top five quarterback in terms of production.
On top of that, he has a second gear that Quinn, you were did not have,
which is he is a dangerous runner.
And I think that I would not be surprised if Texas
tries to mitigate that as much as they can because whenever I've covered really valuable
quarterbacks who have really good running ability but solid great solidly great arms,
the coaches have done a lot to protect them from taking hits. I anticipate you'll probably see
some of that from Texas, but I just don't know how it's
possible it even fails. Well, fail is one thing. Like fail is not really on the table.
My question is, is he going to be better than Quinn Ubers? You could make a case that Quinn
Ubers was a top five quarterback in America a year ago. And I think that the actual reality of that is that Quinn Ubers was a pretty good quarterback, not a great one, a good one.
When you add in the physical traits that Arch Manning illustrates
with the team that he is on.
The math equation of that is going to be elite level production period.
Sailor Joe with a great question in the chat. What's
going to hurt more arch doesn't perform as expected or arch
excels and people are left asking could Texas have one in
2024 head arch been in that? It's a great question because
that that's it's a discussion Ari and I had pretty frequently
as the the season wound down to the end last year and I think
it was pretty clear
on how he felt about it. Arch got banged up in the Ohio State
game. I think he took a yes head in the first. He took a shot
in the head early in the game. Yeah, and that limited his
plan. And I honestly I've already began that conversation
in my head of.
If Arch Manning was fully healthy and didn't, was he
concussed or is that just something that I heard from
Texas booster? I don't know. He took
a shot to the head. I mean,
I don't think they're going to tell
us one way or the other, but they
didn't put him back in early in the
game that caused him to play less.
I don't know if he even came in.
I got running package for him would
have been really good to use on the
goal line there at the end and
they didn't put him in. Yeah,
he didn't come into the game when
they had first and goal or second
and goal from the one they ended up running a toss play that lost them the game. I think you could make the case already. That if Arch Manning were healthy a year ago in that position and they used him that Texas could have played for a national title last year. So like you could already you know Ohio State was great, but let's not like rewrite the history here.
Texas was down seven with the ball inside the five.
Oh yeah.
Texas was a really good team and really close.
We won that game and they were close.
Ohio State, because of a strip sack,
but the game was on the scoreboard and in execution close
enough to be tied with a few minutes left.
Had they scored there instead of running that awful play.
That play is one of the worst play calls I've seen
in I've ever seen.
You can't run a toss play on the goal line
when Caleb Downs is on the other team.
You just can't.
Like I'm sorry.
Especially when Caleb Downs saw it while playing
for Alabama against Georgia in the SEC Championship game
the year before.
Which is wild recall.
He's like, yeah, I saw him do it on film,
but that was exactly what what Georgia tried to do against this.
Here's another year and I just immediately knew what to do.
Don't run horizontally against teams that have more than three NFL
players on the on the defense.
Yeah, so we'll see.
But I see I see the the folks in the chat.
Arch isn't Peyton. He's not Eli. Okay
No, he's not he's actually not anything like either of those two guys. His uncles are were pure pocket passers
Arch is more of a
2025 era type quarterback. He's a dual threat guy. I don't know if he has the arm of his uncles
But he can run so I think that the floor is very very high
But he can run so I think that the floor is very, very high. I don't think there's going to be a very low floor with this guy.
Okay, so you start there and then you leave the possibility open that he is
one of the best quarterback prospects of our generation, which I think there's
some there's some question as to whether or not that's true.
I think there's still people like if Arch Manning didn Didn't have his last name and played
in the moments that he played and
was just named like Steve Smith.
I think he would be in our top five
still and people would be more accepting
of it. I think people are reject.
They reject the notion that he'll be
great because they think that the
only reason why I believe him.
He belongs on this list is because
of his name and that's unequivocally false.
So, um, I think that high floor, great team around him, incredible skillset, great coach who knows how to drop ball plays at 99.9% of the time,
except that the goal line in the college football playoffs semi-final puts
himself in a position to be excellent next year.
And I think that that's going to happen.
We shall see, but I I've got him fourth on my list
because I think there's a really good chance
that he's one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
Now you have John Matier, number four, Oklahoma.
I've got Matier a little bit further down, but not much.
I've got him at six.
Guys, John Matier had a better year at Washington State than Cam Ward had in his last year at Washington
State and Washington State's roster was worse when
material is a starter like we're looking at a fairly
similar situation. They're different QBs. You're going to
do more direct QB runs with material than you did with
Ward, but there's a chance that this guy is
one of the best in the country.
But. That Oklahoma wide receiver injury
bug seems to be biting again in spring
practice, which is just I mean,
I don't know what you do like
these guys can't catch a break.
So let's the stock market.
Is a touchy subject right now, but let's use it.
It's a touchy subject for me because I'm having a hard time.
But the top 10 list as stocks, right?
DJ Lagway and Lenore sellers are speculative assets, but they're also assets that are probably overpriced because people have already bottom up, right?
Yeah.
In terms of the best buy that you can have out of all these guys, John Mattier is by far the best physical quarterback for the cheapest price in terms of what that stock price would be. And I think that it is important to acknowledge anybody.
And like, listen, I didn't stay up every single weekend
and watch Washington State play.
We had a podcast to do.
We didn't see everything,
but I've spent a lot of time in the last month
going back and rewatching his games,
then rewatching his clips.
This guy is unbelievable, unbelievable.
There is a legitimate chance that this is the guy holding up the
Heisman at the end of the year. And I don't say that lightly. There is a legitimate chance
that Oklahoma is a playoff team because of this guy next year. And if you were going to put your
money into a pot with somebody who is upside that this guy has for a reasonable price based on the hype in which he's receiving in the off season.
There is nobody better on this list. And I almost put him in the top three. I almost put him in the top two.
I didn't want South Carolina fans to think I hate them because I'm tired of it. But like John Matier has number one. Overall player in the sport ceiling.
Am I nuts? You're not nuts, no.
Oklahoma making the playoffs a little tough.
We need to see massive improvement
from the offensive line to get there.
I think their defense is going to be
really good because it's always good.
I think the receivers aren't going to be
decimated their offensive line can't get
worse and well, their receivers are like it's it's a little worried
about that that piece of it.
Dude, he's going to be awesome.
Well, Giovanni Gibson, who was going to be their biggest
transfer pickup, it looks like he's suffered an injury
recently, and I just it's I'm worried.
I'm worried they just maybe snake bit at this point, but
I'm with you on Mateer's ceiling.
It's your ceiling is incredibly high.
I didn't have him as high as you did because we haven't
gotten a chance to see it against that level competition
yet because as the folks in the chat point out, Kam Ward
did play a tougher schedule in 2023 at Washington State
than the material did last year. But
and but let me also walked into a situation where he knew he's
going to have a really good offensive line and had very
productive receivers, offensive line receiver where Oklahoma's
two biggest problems last year.
Let me be clear, though. I'm going to ask you this just
straight up. You know know life on the line.
National television you're there.
You gotta answer this question.
Your best guess at Oklahoma's record this year.
8 and 4. Awesome. 9 and 3 could get them in.
OK, against that schedule I think you
might be right, yeah, If he's a sensational player.
I don't think it's out of the question, River, if you could throw that back up for me,
that they beat Michigan.
Auburn could be a toss up game. We're high on Auburn.
Texas is the weird game that you never know what's going to happen, right?
Even though you did last year.
Yep. They beat the crap out of Alabama last year, despite being terrible.
I think nine and three is a reasonable thing to think could happen for this team.
And I know like, listen, I, there's no bigger prisoner of the moment than me.
I'm trying to be better about that.
If OU has a nasty defense, a much improved offensive line, and they add a cam ward
asset like class doesn't have to look the same.
But in terms of value to the quarterback position,
there is absolutely no question in my mind
that Oklahoma could win nine games.
If things come together,
does that mean that's the favorite?
No, of course not.
No one thinks that's the favorite.
But if you're sitting here right now in August,
why do I keep calling April August?
I need to get my head on straight.
We just want to be here.
You want you want football season to be here.
I understand.
Actually, after the NCAA tournament ends,
it's kind of like,
Oklahoma has a chance
and they have a chance because of John Matier.
Well, I'm a little worried because Giovanni Gibson, again, was going to be a big contributor
to them.
It looks like he's done for the year.
It sucks.
Yeah.
And that's not John Mater.
There's nothing John Mater can do about that.
But that is a factor that will affect John Mater.
All right.
Let us move to my number five is Garrett Nussmeyer at LSU.
I think Garrett Nussmeyer is a better quarterback
than we got to see last year.
I think you look at the way the LSU players rally around him.
Here's what I think Garrett Nussmeyer needs.
And it's not something Garrett Nussmeyer can control.
Garrett Nussmeyer needs LSU to not abandon the run game so that it will allow
Garrett Nussmeyer to be a more efficient quarterback and face defenses that are playing him honestly
instead of knowing he's going to be dropping back to throw and calling plays accordingly.
LSU abandoned the run game in critical situations over and over and over again last season.
If you want a great example, watch the second half of the floor game.
They're actually running the ball fairly well and then they just stop.
And that's when Florida starts teeing off on Nussmeyer.
So Nussmeyer can throw the hell out of the ball, but they don't need to be a 59% pass team.
He had a bad game last year on national television and a big
game. And I think that people remember that game. I don't
think that's an indication of who he is. I think that he was
the floor again, the Florida game. I'm telling you, you
don't abandon the run. He doesn't get sacked that many times.
Like if I'm LSU, it's just him and we're going to have an LSU
heavy episode coming up this week. Yeah, I'm feeling very good about who's my quarterback this year.
I do too.
quarterback this year. I do too.
Yeah, I I do too. I like Garrett Nussmeyer a lot. I you know that
look at who they've got and they got Nick Anderson from Oklahoma at receiver. They've added some some really interesting pieces.
Yeah, they added Barry and Brown from from Kentucky.
He's got some weapons.
I like this guy a lot. And you know, watch him at the end of the South
Carolina game last year and he had a
tough start to that South Carolina game,
but bounced back really well played
great down the stretch in that game
against a really good defense.
So I think. I think Nussmeyer could be
very productive, could take LSU where
they want to want to go. You know what
I'm actually like internally laughing at right now is that like when you I think Nussmeyer could be very productive, could take LSU where they want to go.
You know what I'm actually like internally laughing at right now is that like when
you told me we were going to do quarterback
rankings like I was juiced about it because
I just get to talk about football with my
buddy for an hour. I was a little bit afraid
that our lists would be too boring and that
too obvious and people wouldn't care.
That's not what's happening here. So I'm pretty
excited. No, no.
Okay, so we've talked about Club Nick,
he's your number five.
We've talked about Matir, he's my number six.
So let's move to your number six,
Sam Levitt.
Slippery Sam?
From Arizona State.
And I've got Sam Levitt at eight on my list.
Yeah.
Ice isn't his nickname.
I wish it was.
Slippery Sam got lost in the Kam Scataboo tornado last year.
He was excellent.
He was excellent.
And I think that the number one thing
that I love about his game
more than anything is,
is that he is a sneaky, scary, good athlete
who can evade pressure, extend plays with his legs.
And the improv skills are, is improv.
Like very, very good, like cam ward level improv skills,
which is saying a lot.
Right.
And you bring an experienced quarterback back who, uh, took a team that no one
even thought could compete in the big 12 to a potential or on the verge of
beating Texas in the college football playoff, you don't just do that because
you've got a big bruising running back.
You do that because you've got a quarterback that you can trust.
And, um, he's got a pretty good receiver coming back to this year.
Jordan Tyson, yep.
So I am on the lookout.
Like I don't know where we are in terms of most likely
to win the big 12.
Arizona State has to come in as the favorite
even without Kam Skatibou, right?
Because of this guy.
I like BYU and what they bring back. And Jake Retzl is a
very good quarterback, by the way, he's he's one that we
probably should have considered for this list. So and I but I
am very excited because Sam Levitt is the straw that serves
the drink in Tempe. And Cody Bollaire, our national scout told us that when he left Michigan State,
they're like Cody said, this guy is going to be awesome.
Just what just watch.
Yeah.
And like last year he threw for about 3000 yards, 24 touchdowns and only six picks while
also playing in a very frantic situation.
And I think that's like, uh, you know, having a running back who can pop you off five yards of carry because nobody can
tackle him on at first contact certainly
is a nice security blanket for a quarterback.
But. Sam Levitt.
Played a major role in Arizona States
comeback against the Longhorns in the
playoff. It wasn't a flashy, you know,
throwback pass, whatever.
There was no bow and arrow celebration,
but he made plenty of crucial plays
on third down and stuff that
kept the chains moving and kept Arizona State in that game. I think he didn't even have
his best receiver in the in the big 12 title game or in the the playoff game against Texas.
No, I think that Arizona State's in a pretty good position and anytime Arizona State can
come into a season with a quarterback who appears on this list and then you you compare him or you team him up. Excuse me with a with a court with a receiver like Jordan Tyson.
You have a cocktail there for something that could be pretty special. I'm super excited about this and I think Sam Levitt is a person that should be talked about more. I say that a lot. We need to spread the love, not just me and you, but as a country, we need to talk about this guy.
Yes, so we've both got Sam Levitt on our list.
You have him at six, I have him at eight.
Let's go to my number seven.
And where do you have, do you have this guy on your list,
but where do you have him?
It's Drew Aller from Penn State.
So you've got him at number nine.
Now, this is where if NFL GMs made this list, they would vehemently disagree
with us. They would all have drew our in the top two, because
he has all the tools. Yeah. Right. He has all the tools. He
has the size. He has the arm. He has the athletic ability. He can run. He has everything.
Now we can blame the lack of production.
On a lack of good receivers,
which I think is fair.
But we can also go back to the last
throw he made in the 2024 season in
the Orange Bowl against Notre Dame.
When the game is tied, if they drive for a field goal, they'll play for the
national championship and he makes one of the most mind-bending throws you
will ever see and I don't mean in a good way.
It was a, you could tell when he was dropping back.
You're just saying in your head, don't do this.
Do you want to do this?
No, no, no, no.
That didn't end with the Walter Clayton jr. Yes. you're just saying in your head, don't do this. Do you want to do this? No, no, no, no.
That didn't end with the Walter Clayton Jr.
Yes, it was a no, no, no, no.
Exactly.
Moment that turned into a no.
So, yeah.
I don't know how much of it is
their receivers aren't very good
or how much of it is he still needs to develop.
And like I said about K. Kluvnik,
you can get better as you go through your college career,
so if this guy gets better with all
the tools he has and he's very young.
Drew Allers only 20.
There's a chance that your hour is leading Penn State
to a national title this year.
Do you think if Penn State would have
lost in a different
way last year that he would be higher on your list?
No, because there's only one game last year where I was like
maybe I'm all wrong about drew aller and that was the Big Ten
Championship game where he looked freaking awesome. Like
if you have a season of mostly games like that from drew aller,
they're going to win the national championship.
Yeah, he.
Is the type of person that I feel like you couldn't leave off
the list because then you would look like you're trolling.
But he's a good quarterback.
He's just not there yet, but he can be so much better.
There is a lever to pool that makes him a top three quarterback
that we haven't seen pulled yet.
And that doesn't mean that it can't be.
It just means we haven't seen that yet.
And like if he is big 10 title game, Drew Aller,
for games and games and games in a row, then this changes.
But I think he has a lot of potential.
And I think that also too,
if you were to make top 10
best NFL quarterback prospects list he would be higher but that's not what we're doing here.
We're doing who the best quarterbacks in college football are and I don't care if they'll ever
throw a pass in the NFL it's who who teams have and a lot of times those two things go hand in
hand but they don't always go hand in hand.
But that's not where I didn't take any account of to like where somebody could be or would be drafted when I made this list.
And I don't think you did either. So we'll see. But I think that representing him on the things that you illustrate that are exciting, but
also a statement of you're, you know, you're not there all the way yet.
Okay, let's go to your number eight, because I find he's not on my list, but it's when
I feel bad I left off my list.
Yeah, Haynes King, the only quarterback that we're going to talk about who's thrown me
a pass in a college game.
Remember, I made a one handed catch in Tuscaloosa of a Hanes King throw when he
was a Texas A&M.
And the part of the story that Andy doesn't ever tell when he talks about his one handed snag on the
sideline is that if he doesn't catch that, it hits me in the face.
So like that, I was standing right behind him.
Um, and, uh, so thank you for saving my beautiful nose.
I don't, I should not have given the ball back.
So Ross Bjork, who's now the AD at Ohio State,
was the Texas A&M AD at the time,
he was standing right in front of me,
and I thought if I tried to run off with the ball
that Ross was going to make a scene
because he was right there and saw me catch it,
so I couldn't steal it.
But we need to talk about Haynes King
because Haynes King, probably the most damning indictment of Jimbo Fisher era
at Texas A&M is how good Haynes King has been at Georgia Tech
in Buster Faulkner's offense.
And this is a really good college quarterback.
And I don't know if Haynes King has an NFL future,
but I will take him to be my college quarterback anytime.
This is exactly the point I just got done making about NFL.
I don't know that he'll ever sniff a snap in the NFL.
He is a hell of a college quarterback and watching him play is exciting.
And he can beat you in multiple ways.
And he's doing it at a place that isn't stacked with talent around him.
Georgia Tech's talent has elevated the last few years, but it's
nowhere near the talent that most of the quarterbacks on this list are working with. And like Haines
King, I believe in the tractor trailer discussion.
Truck trailer. He's a truck. He's a truck. He is. He moves his offense down the field
and he does it with beautiful throws. He does it by evading pressure and getting four yards on a play that should have lost
four and he does it.
And he's tough as hell.
He's tough as nails.
I feel like Haynes King is the epitome of what you would want in a college quarterback.
And I also would venture to say that if Haynes King were the quarterback at an Ohio State
or a Michigan last year or somewhere
else that this guy could have made
a deep playoff run other than other
than size. What's the difference
between Haynes King and Drew and
Will Howard? I think you can even
make the case that Haynes King is
tougher than that is a little
bit better than than well hour.
Yeah, so. I think size is important, but you can't just say, well,
other than. Other than that,
I mean, that's a pretty big difference,
but I feel like if you put up Haynes
King in Ohio State's offense last
year things would have been fine.
You know, oh exactly, I did.
They would have been really good, yeah.
So. I yeah, I'm excited to see sneaky.
Great week one game. Everybody is Georgia Tech at Colorado,
which could be Haynes, Cain, Cain Salter like that could be a lot of fun. Yeah, yeah. We don't.
We didn't represent anybody from Colorado on this list, and there's another player that's not on
this list or the honorable mention on the other side that I think is interesting.
But like somebody in the chat earlier said, you know, can't wait for this list to be completely wrong and for them to say it's projecting only on what happened last year.
It's like, that's not what we're doing here. If you listen to the show, there's a lot of people who haven't played a lot of football that are like I was tempted. In a moment, I'll tell you soft
moment to put price under what on here.
I almost did it. I don't blame it.
I'm telling you right now and we can
we can do this as a show next week.
I want to do it as a column at
on three early next week.
This is my plan.
The quarterbacks are most excited to see.
That I haven't gotten to see yet.
Bryce Underwood's obviously on the list.
Dante more at Oregon isn't going to be on the list
because we saw Dante more at UCLA two years ago,
but it's not the same thing.
And so there's a bunch of guys that I cannot wait to see.
Either in a new uniform or.
We just there.
They're young guys who haven't gotten to play yet,
and I'm very excited about a bunch of quarterbacks
around the country,
so I think that's a good thing. I think that's a good thing. We just they're young guys who haven't gotten to play yet, and I'm very excited about a bunch of quarterbacks around the country.
So I think that's.
That's a little tease for next week, because like we just don't know.
It's not on that hasn't won the job yet, but I think that he might.
I mean, didn't Pete Naco's report that he's leading.
I think Bryce Underwood is going to wind up starting in Michigan.
I think he's probably the day one starter.
So which is great, exciting, electric,
some of the kids like to say.
Are you the kid?
Yeah, I say it a lot.
I say it enough where it's like having a problem,
like it's creating a marriage.
Yeah, it might be a verbal crutch at this point.
Yeah, I'm saying enough where
we might need to see a marriage counselor.
Well, I mean, you and Britt might need
to see a marriage counselor. I think our marriage is just fine. Like, I mean, you and Britt might need to see
a marriage counselor.
I think our marriage is just fine.
Like I accept you for who you are.
I see an electric in a situation
that I shouldn't have set it in.
And I'm sure you can put two and two together on that.
And that was kind of where we draw the line.
Yeah, that's how you get punched in the face.
All right.
Next up.
You know the husband and wife,
the husband and wife like drive by the hallway and you look to the right there
in the bathroom electric, you know, and then you just keep going.
You know, yeah.
Guy who was on my list, not on your list.
Darian Mensah at Duke.
Yeah.
John Matier was probably the most sought after transfer portal quarterback this cycle. This guy was number two.
Although I think some people would argue that he's number one.
Derry Mensah was awesome at Tulane last year as a freshman. Redshirt
freshman at Tulane. But
Duke was very directed in this.
Malik Murphy enters the portal day one when it opens
and we're like, what's going on there?
And then a couple days later,
Darian Mensa is coming to play for Manny Diaz.
It's like, okay, we get it.
You felt like you upgraded big time here.
And Darian Mensa is a guy that I think,
we've talked about how it doesn't matter
what the NFL thinks.
My guess is the NFL is gonna be very enamored of Darien Mensa
after seeing him for a year at Duke.
And it's also a very exciting place to go to college football nerds
because Duke was actually a fairly functional, very functional good.
Duke was a very good team last year.
They went nine games.
If you really want to have a college
football playoff, you know,
quabble is that a word?
No, have a squabble wobble coral.
Those are words beef with anything
that playoff committee did.
It was the the.
Huge under ranking of Duke when you
compare their resume and their record
to a lot of the other teams that
were ranked ahead of them.
They were a good football team last year. And then you
go in and you add a legit quarterback like this. I mean, this is how I put the Illinois
Duke game in my top 10 of non-conference games. I'm most excited to watch this year because
if you're paying attention, both of those teams have a chance to be very, very good.
This looks like a 2005 ESPN noon game, but that's not what this is
this year. I'm super excited.
Oh no, that's one of the better week two games. So I'm pumped about that one.
Yeah. And I didn't have them on my list, but this is the type of person that makes me feel
like I might've made a mistake. And we'll see. We'll see. He's on my honorable mention,
should have put them on list But mm-hmm
I didn't know if I if he was there all the way and like also the inclusion of Darien Mensah on your list is what's
Gonna get you into trouble because you had to leave somebody else off as a result
I had to leave Nico Yamal Yamal off and let's talk Nico. Let's let's talk about the Nico good
You left somebody off. It's gonna get you in trouble
That's my number 10.
And I think we're both in trouble because both fan bases are still gonna be pissed that they're number 10. But let's talk Niko first. Now you had some very pointed comments about Niko
last week that really upset some Tennessee fans. Yeah, I thought they were rational. I think so
too. And that's why he that's why I's why he's probably number 11 on my list,
but he's not number 10.
And I don't feel that bad about it.
You are starting a college football team.
You are the GM.
And you have to choose a quarterback and you have two options.
Okay, or Carson Beck.
You're going to pick clearly.
I made my choice with my list.
I'm saying that's your pick.
I'm picking Carson Beck.
Yes, I think that is unequivocally wrong.
Okay.
Why I think that's like.
We know what Carson Beck is.
He's fine.
Nico, you're saying Nico's higher ceiling is why Miami isn't going anywhere that they
haven't been already with Carson Beck.
Tennessee has a chance by the time this guy's done, and maybe even this year, uh, to go
somewhere they haven't been in a while as a result of excellent play. His, his physical skill set hasn't come together.
Um, but you have seen flashes of what that looks like.
And to ignore that in the face of like a boring safety blanket, that's
just kind of okay is crazy to me.
And like you and I don't argue a lot and I've been like foaming at the mouth of
this, like I have no idea what you like like listen, Carson Beck is a solid quarterback.
I don't think he stinks by any stretch of the imagination.
Anybody who's listened to my show here or
the athletic for the last two years knows that I've not been a Carson Beck tea drinker.
He threw a lot of interceptions last year despite the fact that he was around a team
that was pretty talented, granted no real offensive weapons to write home about.
But those guys showed up in the playoff.
Those guys showed up at the end of the year
and I don't know that Carson Beck did.
So like to me,
I feel like Miami made a really good decision,
a decision they really had no choice
to make in getting him because they
didn't have a quarterback and they needed one.
They proved that in the bowl game in getting him because they didn't have a quarterback and they needed one and they
proved that in the bowl game in the second half they needed somebody if you would pick him over Nico like that blows my
mind because Nico had some overthrow problems and he had some issues last year but at the same time I don't know that he
was working with a full deck of elite level receivers on himself. Did they get better this year?
Uh, I don't know.
A receiver.
There's a young receiver on the team that I think has a chance to be very good.
Mike Matthews and who Carter's going to play some receiver to the safety,
which they're going to try to hunter him a little bit.
I don't know, but I know one thing.
Carson Beck isn't at the point where he's getting better.
Like, I think we know what Carson Beck is, and I think we know what Nico is.
And I don't think the difference.
We know what it was.
The question is, is this all Nico is?
Cause I think there, there is a universe where Nico puts everything together.
Like, so the Ohio state game was interesting to me because Nico was hamstrung by the
fact that Ohio state had a really good defense, Tennessee didn't have great
receivers and no one was open and he still managed to get some yards on the ground.
Dylan Sampson was, was hurt.
And so Nico had to take over a little bit.
Like a version of Nico who is a really effective scrambler who is connecting with
receivers down the field better than he did last year is not only on my list.
He's in the top five, but I'm not sure that's what it is.
I'm sure that's what he is.
Here's what I do know.
He's got to prove that to me.
Nico is being graded against an $8 million rubric,
and rightfully so.
But what Nico was last year
and what Carson Beck was last year
wasn't a huge difference to me.
I don't think- They're about the same.
They didn't have a great year.
And then you add the upside that Nico has in terms of his skillset.
And it's no question, if you're even willing to acknowledge that they were
remotely similar to what, to the same guy, production wise last year, how
you would go with the person that's kind of a set product coming off in an
injury rather than the young gun that they paid $8 million.
Well, here's my thing about Carson Beck.
Here's my thing about Carson Beck. Here's my thing about Carson Beck.
We need to reframe the conversation around Carson Beck.
People think Carson Beck stinks
because this time last year,
we were talking about Carson Beck
potentially being the first quarterback
off the board in the draft this year.
He's clearly not that.
He's probably not a first round NFL quarterback, but he's a very good college quarterback.
I think he's a good college quarterback.
I think he's a very good college quarterback.
Now look, did he get exposed somewhat because he didn't have Brock Bowers and Lad McConkie
anymore?
Yeah, but everybody's going to get get exposed like that you go from having those
two guys to throw to to not having those two guys to throw to your world changes considerably
carson beck is a trailer nico could be a truck but he's not yet but i'd rather take the darian
minza is a truck i'd rather take the guy that was similar to the other guy that has truck ability when the other person is a bona fide
trailer is all I'm saying. You're getting I don't know. I'm
not. I'm not resigned to the fact that Carson Beck's a
trailer. I'm just thinking he's he's not a first QB off the
board. I've been I've been resigned to the fact that he's
a trailer for two years. Okay, I don't know what I don't know
what what there's left to see with that. Well, we'll see him
on a different roster,
throwing to different receivers and look.
And also he's coming off a major injury.
And he's not.
He's coming off a major injury.
And the other part of it is, and this is where I'm going to,
in fairness to you, because usually when you say,
oh, he's going to be on a different roster.
Well, yeah, he played at Georgia.
He played for a really, he played with a really good roster
around him. Yeah, I think things were okay for him. Yeah
So anyway, Tennessee fans you can get mad at me for not having Nico hire
but I think Andy's right in the sense that he doesn't deserve to be higher but I I
Would have rather seen somebody else that number 10 on your list if you were gonna leave Nico off then Carson back
Okay, who okay. Let's talk about that.
Cause there are guys that we left off that I think could make,
you can make a really good case for the one.
I think that we probably may have both screwed up on.
And there's a guy who may let us know about this, uh, named Brett Bielema,
Luke Altmeyer. Yep. Very efficient quarterback at Illinois.
Got to have, you know, loses his two best receivers, but they went and got some receivers.
So we could definitely be wrong.
We need to revisit this list at the end of the season
and see where we messed up and who we left off.
But I think Luke Altmeier, among them people we left off has one of the
highest chances of being on it at the end of the season.
Yes.
Uh, and also to likely will be because I think Illinois is going to be very good
this year and he was a very productive player on a Thursday night games when no
one was watching last year.
And what was the, the, the game that everybody was watching?
I'm Nebraska, Nebraska though. It was, that was the overtime game that everybody was watching? Nebraska.
Nebraska, that was the overtime game that they got sacked at 50.
Yeah, he was a really, really good quarterback last year,
2,700 yards passing, 22 touchdowns, I believe, and
only six interceptions was efficient, 61% completions.
And he also ran the ball pretty well.
I think he had five touchdowns on the ground.
So he is really good.
And I think that like, if you would have had him at 10
and not Carson Beck,
I wouldn't have given you so much crap there.
Okay.
Well, I accept that.
Kevin Jennings at SMU is another one.
I think his performance against Penn State,
well, it's the Penn State game
and the ACC Championship game against Clemson
that I think are
digging Kevin Jennings. Yeah, I mean he had a really bad
game against Penn State. It was like it was just the
moment was too big but I don't know if that doesn't
mean if that means that he's cooked forever. Uh oh. Uh
oh. Our our guy Cody Belair. Uh oh. Yeah. He's he's
giving away names on my excited to see in a new
uniform list.
Cody Blair says whispers Fernando Mendoza.
So Fernando Mendoza played a cow last year.
He's in Indiana with Kurt Signe.
Now I am very excited to see him at Indiana.
And when Cody says something you listen because he he's he nailed Lenoris and he nailed,
who else did he nail? Sam Levitt. He's got a, he's good at what he does. So if he
thinks that Fernando Mendoza is going to be something, I might put a little bet in for
Indiana's season win total over. Because I like listening to him.
He's a good dude.
This is we need to have.
That's a good off season show too.
Just Cody makes a list of all the
guys that we're not talking about.
Yeah, that are going to be awesome
because let's let's let's review
people who Cody tried to put us on
very early last year that the two
people that he was most excited about before anybody really knew who they people who Cody tried to put us on very early last year,
the two people that he was most excited about
before anybody really knew who they were
or what they could do were Lenore Sellers and Sam Leavitt.
It's pretty good.
It's pretty good conversion rate.
So I think that he has a regression back to the bottom.
Listen, I'm telling you right now.
Cody, you're watching right now, so just prepare.
You're going to get a phone call from me at some point
in the next few weeks.
We're doing that episode, so start making your list now.
Yeah, and watch that kids tape I'm talking to you about.
Thank you.
Listen, Ari, we haven't solved any any arguments today. I think we've incited some new ones and that's fine. Like the Nico argument.
The Carson Beck argument.
I mean, those are legitimate arguments that I think are going to rage until we actually get to see these guys play again. Yeah. And I just wanted to, before we get out of here,
and say one more name that just has to be said on the show,
just so we had it on record, is Sawyer Robertson of Baylor.
I think he's in the room.
Baylor, yep.
So he's on my honorable mention list,
and I think that Baylor has a chance
to be something this year.
And Baylor Auburn early in the season is going to be a sneaky banger too.
Yeah, yeah, I this is that's a Friday night game
by the way. Auburn at Baylor. Maybe I'll
sneak down there. It's only an hour away. Yeah.
I can't wait. And then go to that the HGTV like
housing compound. We've got good kettle
corn there. What's it? Chip and Diana Gaines? As I said, Joanna
Joanna Gaines. Yeah, Magnolia. Yeah, Magnolia table is a banger
of a restaurant.
We went there when and I was dieting. Brett, we were driving
through and I went with Brett and they had food trucks
everywhere. And they had like waffles and stuff and I didn't
eat anything
and like I've been thinking about it ever since.
So need to get back down there and smash some food
cause I'm a big kettle corn guy Andy.
I think that's a very underrated and elite level stack.
I think I might take popcorn number one.
Sweet and savory.
Might take popcorn number one in the snacks draft
if we ever did one.
That's a interesting.
I'm a big popcorn guy,
especially the smart food white cheddar and the gas station. I'll drink that stuff.
That's the best bite when you're done eating the whole bag and all the like bits of popcorn
or at the bottom of the dust. Or you just drink the dust. Rip it down your throat. Yeah. I love
that too. Just smashing, you know, a bag of popcorn at the end of it in your car like this, and then somebody driving
by and just going, look at that piece of crap.
So I actually, I have a new gummy number one, because gummies are always my number one candy,
number one gas station treat.
I'm also a big meat stick jerky guy.
But like if I'm going for candy, gummies are always,
and it was always black forest gummy bears for me. But the
black forest gummy bears since they've gone to the organic,
like I need more chemicals in my gummy bears apparently. The
Audible twin snakes. That's my new gummy of choice. That's my
new top gummy.
You have been in road trips with me now more frequently and often the last few years
Have you ever seen me by candy and the gas station never?
Never never never potato chips guy
Big popcorn guy
All right sailor Joe. We're close with this ass
Will eight of the ten of these QBs be in the playoffs.
Now we have different people on the list, so I don't know that.
Like it depends.
I guess it depends on whose list we're talking about.
Probably mine because I've got.
I think Ari's list is more likely to have 8 of 10 QBs in the playoff.
Yeah.
Although I listen Carson Beck Miami could if he has a really good year they could get
in.
Let's stop it.
You think Georgia Tech is going to be the playoff?
I don't.
Okay.
But I think everybody else could be.
Well let's all right let's look at your list.
DJ Lagway could be if they have a good year.
Lenora Sellers could be if they have a good year.
We think Arch Manning will be.
You think John Matier could take Oklahoma there.
I'm not so sure.
We think Cade Clubnick will be.
Sam Levitt, we think very well could.
We think Garrett Nussmeyer could.
The other probably will be.
Haynes King, we said no.
The problem with my list is that if DJ makes it,
Lenora's won't, right?
Or how's that?
Oh, and there's too many pro-pollination. with my and then Nico could be if DJ makes it Lenore's won't right or correct oh and more pollination also if DJ makes it potentially Nico doesn't they play
each other late in the season yeah and like John with tears on the list there's
five SEC quarterbacks on my weight one yeah it's probably too many SEC guys
and that's crazy yeah and and that's the thing is it with the big 10,
we just don't know. Cause a lot of these guys haven't played yet.
Yeah. Like Dante Moore is somebody that we,
you mentioned that you can't wait to see. Um, yeah, Julian saying could be amazing.
Uh, I'm not going to go to the Lincoln Bryce Underwood. Yeah.
Bryce Underwood. Like there was guys that just, you know, but they're,
they're certainly not going to be seven SEC teams that make the playoff this year without Alabama or Georgia being one of them. Like I just
like the odds of that happening. Well, that's the other thing. What, what if Gunnar Stockton
just balls out? What if, what if Ty Simpson wins the Alabama job? It's just awesome. Like
we don't know that yet. You know, I listened to Doug Lamarise and Bill Landis argue, not
argue, discuss this on the ride
home but like in terms of locks for the playoff, and I was texting Bill about this, their assertion
or Bill's assertion is that George is basically a mortal lock to make the playoff this year.
And I think that that's an interesting discussion because they basically did it last year with
a very weak offense.
And even if they're weak on offense again, I think it's
probably a pretty safe bet that like, even them at nine and three would get the benefit of the doubt that other teams
don't get, which I think we need to discuss. So that's a completely different discussion. You could do 10 teams most
likely to make the playoff. And that could be a show. But like the, the quarterback list, I feel pretty good about, and there's only one thing
that you did on your list that made me roll my eyes
and probably won vice versa.
So it's exciting to see how this plays out.
And honestly speaking, if you're outraged, congratulations,
but I think this is a pretty right down the middle,
like fairly rational way of looking.
I'm glad if you're outraged, go ahead and be outraged.
And if we're wrong, we're wrong.
We'll come back and say it, it'll be fun. Yeah, yeah, like we're wrong all the time. Go ahead, be outraged. And if we're wrong, we're wrong. We'll come back and say it.
It'll be fun.
Yeah, yeah.
Like we're wrong all the time.
It's part of the deal.
You can't do a five day a week, hour long show
and be correct a lot.
Like there's a lot of things being said on the show
and we're doing our best with the information
that we have to be true and honest.
Especially with college football
where we really have to speculate
for nine months out of the year.
Yeah, and also too, the speculation aspect of it, like, I don't know.
When you think about the genesis of our jobs and what it was meant to be, it was to report on what happened and then somewhere along the line, it's to be like the pariahs of the future.
And like that's a really hard thing to do.
So I'm okay doing my best and that's the thing that I can't stand about people who can't acknowledge when they're wrong.
It's like what you think that you're just like the czar of the future, like you know everything all the time?
No, like if we did, again, our lives would be very different,
but we do our best to give you honest analysis of the best guest that we can come up with in April
as it pertains to the future of the season.
And I think that like as we, you know, look at the rational information that's out there,
that the lists are pretty,
pretty right down the middle there. Cane's fans go get him.
He doesn't have Carson back on his list.
Yeah, get me Cane's.
We'll talk to you tomorrow.
Yeah.
